Dear Sir(or Madam), The Left Rear Caliber is locking up AGAIN. We have changed 4 Rear Calibers, Rotors , Breaks and Brake Hoses and Two Sets of Front Calibers, Breaks, Rotors and Break Hoses and again the Caliber in the Rear Right is locking up again. This you would think is a Safety Hazard by now. We have owned three Wranglers and everyone of them had Brake Problems. I thought that maybe Jeep would have this problem solved by now. But am sure if NHTSA doesn't do anything then Jeep isn't going to do anything. This problem is costing us a arm and leg. I wish you at NHTSA would do something about this on going problem. Thank you.
Dear Sir (or Madam), We have a 2017 Wrangler Rubicon and we've change the rear Brake Hoses, Calibers, Rotors and Brakes twice due to the brake hoses collapsing and not letting the fluid return to the master cylinder. The first time it was covered the second time 1000 bucks. We have also replaced the front Brake Hoses, Calibers, rotors and brake due to the brake hose collapsing and not letting the fluid return to the master cylinder another 640 bucks. This is the third Wrangler we've owned and the same thing has happened on all 3 the rear hoses collapse and wont let the fluid return to the master cylinder. You would think that since it has to do with the brakes you at NHTSA would say its a hazard because the brakes lock up.
The ABS Module Failed while Driving. Yes it is available for inspection. The 2017 Jeep Wrangler stopped abruptly. Then it barely moved when I continued to press on the Accelerator pedal. Then it ran normal for about a mile, then it started jerking like I was depressing the brake pedal, intermittently. The safety of myself and others was put at risk by the sudden braking without any input from me. Yes, the problem has been confirmed by an independent service center. No, the vehicle has not been inspected by the Police, Manufacturer, or Insurance Representatives. The ABS lamp came on, as well as others. It has been at the service shop for one month. The owner of the shop told me that the "working" part is unavailable, right now. He is looking in Junkyards for a used part. I wrote an email to [XXX] " and they said that they're not working on Jeeps with this problem right now, because they can't get the "chips" (Micro processors). I called the Jeep Dealership, they told me that the part would cost me $371.70. Then I talked with the service Manager. He told me that installation and programming would cost me $490.00 + tax. That's a total of $861.70. Then he mentioned it could take 2 years, 1 year; or 6 Months to get the part. He said that he just got one in, and the lady had waited since February (8 Months) to get her part. Different year models require different versions of this part, and it is made in China. This shortage of ABS Modules has been going on for years! I have done multiple searches on the internet, and I found that there are thousands of people with this problem. I also found out that the ABS modules for sale on Amazon and Ebay do NOT work. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Transmission clunking when changing gears, while my abs light is on. The break pedals rumble and the car is scary to drive. These issues are with a faulty abs control module.
The ABS Control Module is not functioning correctly and is constantly creating a fault light on the dash even when the code is cleared. All four wheel speed sensors have been tested and/or replaced, the issue remains. The safety aspect of this is when the brake is applied it “defaults” to ABS ratchet mode even at slow speeds. If the brakes are applied when going downhill, the ABS engages and the vehicles slides. This could lead to failure to stop and go into a busy intersection. This issue has gone on for two years, no replacement part (the module) can be purchased because Jeep is re-engineering it, for at least the last two years. I consider the vehicle too dangerous to drive without the replacement part. Jeep is fully aware of this issue.
ABS and Traction Control lights are on. Sometimes Emergency Brake light comes on causing it to go into “limp mode”. This is dangerous for me bc this is my Mail Jeep. I’m driving on roads where the speed limits are sometimes posted at 55mph. Mechanic replaced the rear wheel sensors because the computer indicated that was the problem. Did not fix the problem. The ABS Module has to be replaced and they’re on back order. Forums online have many different people stating they’re having the same problem with JEEP. JEEP parts department stating it could be a year or more before the part comes in and is available.
After dash lights came on, my issue was diagnosed as an ABS module failure by my mechanic. Jeep offers no repair. Options are limited and expensive. I’m driving on 1985 brakes until repaired. I understand this is a problem common to JK models and has been occurring for years.
I am on my 4th set of front brake calipers. the last 3 have been replaced at a Wyler Jeep 5881 Gender Rd. Canal Winchester, Ohio 43110...Phone 614-834-6080 and now I am having issues with my left front brake again... This has been in for this service the following times 5/15/2023(could not drive due to brakes locking up) 5/162023 7/5/2023 3/4/2025 (was told not to drive) and now I have to take back up 7/11/2025... I have contacted Jeep and I have a Case #[XXX] The past 3 times they were put on for free under part warranty, and I did receive a courtesy vehicle to drive... I don't want to continue to do this every year or two INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The ABS module was diagnosed as the cause of multiple warning lights appearing on the dashboard, including the ABS light, parking brake light, and traction control light. According to an ASE certified technician, the failure of the ABS module disabled the antilock braking system as well as the cruise control feature. This issue resulted in loss of antilock braking function and reduced overall vehicle safety. The problem was identified and confirmed by a qualified technician. These warning lights first appeared prior to the failure being diagnosed. At this time, the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) replacement part is on at least a three-month backorder.
I was traveling down the street in my town going about 40-45 and all of a sudden the dash lights came on and there was no control of the Jeep. I happened to be close to my mechanic shop so we got it there. No one was hurt but there was no warning that the abs module had gone out. I had to have it towed to a Jeep dealership in Topeka. Ks where it still sits 6 weeks later due to Jeep/ Mopar holding it hostage with no resolution to the ABS module shortage. I am being told there are none in production and there is no ETA for production and shipment.
May 14, 2025 Dear NHTSA, I am submitting this complaint regarding my 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara, which has only 60,000 miles and has already required several major repairs that raise serious safety concerns. To date, I have had to replace three brake calipers and the emergency brake, at a cost of over $2,500. The calipers were seizing, and the emergency brake would not release properly, both of which posed clear risks while driving. I understand through forums and peer discussions that other owners have faced similar issues. In addition, my vehicle now has an oil leak that will cost over $700 to repair, and the windshield washer fluid hose burst, requiring another replacement. These repeated failures on a relatively low-mileage vehicle suggest underlying quality and reliability issues. I believe these concerns warrant review, particularly the safety-related brake defects. I respectfully ask NHTSA to investigate whether these failures are part of a broader pattern that may justify further scrutiny or a formal recall. Thank you for your attention.
Cruise control was not working. The Jeep would also idle too fast when stopped but not get to the proper speed while driving. ABS brake light was on with code that rear wheel brake sensor was not working. Sensor was replaced but it still doesn't work. C. Harper Jeep garage in Connellsville, PA says the ABS module is bad and not supplying power to the wheel sensors. This part is supposedly on back order with no known time of availability. The fuel injector also needed replaced but not sure what caused that problem. Other 2017 Jeeps had recalls for electrical problems but seems that my vin was not, maybe it should have been!
ABS module failed 2 years ago. No traction control, no cruise control, no stability management. This part has been on backorder for 2 years and affects many years. Issue started intermittently about 3 years ago while driving, now the vehicle is extremely unstable in wet conditions. Dealership has diagnosed and said to check back every few months for a solution. Additionally the plastic oil filter housing has been replaced 2 times in 2 years at a cost of $1,200, the second install was covered by parts warranty. Dealers won't install the metal version available on other years that do not have a cracking issue, aftermarket metal versions are available but dealers won't install them.
While Driving ABS, Brake, and Traction Control lights came on simultaneously. Had error codes read and was issuing a C2200 error signifying that ABS control module had failed. Contacted local Dealership to obtain part and was informed by Martin Dodge in Cleveland Texas that the part was not being manufactured because of an engineering issue. Am concerned that this is an issue for all similar vehicles that use the same module and am driving a vehicle without all of its safety features available or even repairable at this time.
Power stop brake hose kit was recalled do to leaks part# BH00139 Amazon order # 112-6473860 / 113-5400733 Recall report 24E-053 Front hose began to leak causing me to loose pressure in the brake system and loosing brakes. Had to have the brake lines replaced
File has been attached.
Brakes keep dragging, getting hot and seizing. I have done four complete brake jobs and the vehicle has only 40,000 miles on it. Most recent time the wheel rim was so hot you couldn’t put your hand on it. Cost so far, over $6,000. Google searches indicate that this is a recurring issue on this model and year.
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while his wife was driving approximately 30 MPH, the driver's side front brake locked up. The contact stated that his wife had not observed any warning lights being illuminated. The vehicle was driven back to the residence. The vehicle was stopped and parked, and the contact stated that there was smoke coming from the driver's side front wheel well. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 91,914.

The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the service brakes warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed with a failure to the frontal impact sensor. The contact was informed that the frontal impact sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000. The VIN was not available.
Mileage: 112,000
The brakes kept grinding and squealing even after we changed them, next the rotors and calipers were done. Then again one by one everything needed to be replaced and still didn't take and we kept smelling burning coming from the tires. We then replaced the master cylinder and the brake lines and still it won't take. I looked it up and there are countless complaints on this and Chrysler/Jeep do nothing about this huge safety risk ! Answers to your questions 1. Braking system as a whole and yes it can't move 2. If you do not have brakes in a vehicle you cannot stop so unsafe for the driver and everyone on the road bc of collision. 3. Yes my mechanic has re done this job multiple times and agrees there is a defect going on, not normal. 4. I did not know I needed my insurance or the police involved, the dealership is a joke. 5. No warning sensors or a heads up, just does it.
Dear Sir(or Madam), My Driver Side Rear Cailper locked up (AGAIN) and my Rear Brakes, Cailper and Rotors had to be replaced (AGAIN) this is the second time I had this problem since I purchased this Jeep that I had the Cailper locked up. Jeep has a real problem with this happening. The last time this happened I had a warranty this time I don't. The last 3 Wranglers I have purchased had the same problem, if this isn't a safety problem it shoud be. I have not received a Repair Order as of yet but will summit it when I do get it.
2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with 44,000 rear brake calipers sticking and burning smell. Had brake pads and calipers replaced on all 4 wheels. At approx 60K miles, rear brakes were sticking and smoking. Right brakes wearing unevenly compared to the left side, both front and rear. Caliper seals are leaking. Replaced 4 brake hoses, Calipers and Pads AGAIN. At 70K miles rear brakes locked up and caused a fire on the rear passenger wheel which created unsafe driving conditions with 2 small children on board. I had to stop on the side of a 2 lane road with small shoulder, quickly evacuate the children onto the shoulder of the road and extinguish the fire using an on-board suppression device. We then had to wait for towing assistance on the side of the road for 90 minutes. Brakes, Hoses, Calipers replaced all around. Again.
2017 Jeep Wrangler, approx 46k miles, driven gently (only highway and city), well-maintained. Problems with Brake Calipers seizing. Back Driver calipers/lines/pad/etc replaced. ABS and brakes jammed last week. Front and Back Passenger calipers, rotors, brake fluid lines and brake pads advised by mechanic. Brakes temping 550 - unreadable (temp gun wouldn't register) Mechanic recommends unsafe to drive because brakes could seize and cause sudden stop and/or accident Dealer says too bad, normal wear and tear. This is our family's 10th Jeep, and NOTHING has happened like this before. Seems like a safety issue perhaps that Jeep should be addressing rather than putting on the consumer (who will no longer purchase Jeeps)
A check engine light came on and when diagnosed it was the Electronic Vacumn Pump which runs the braking system. I see there is a TSB from FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) about this problem.. Case Number: S1805000006 Release Date: 02/24/2020 Symptom/Vehicle Issue: ESC Light Illuminated. DTC C1252-92 VACUUM PUMP CONTROL CIRCUIT And Or P258B ELECTRONIC VACUUM PUMP PERFORMANCE Discussion: If ABS has C1252-92 Active or Stored do not replace the brake system module (ABS). PCM may also have set P258B-00. The faults are pointing to vacuum pump system having an issue maintaining vacuum levels. Please check the vacuum pump operation, fusing, wiring, and connector for proper functionality. Poor connections, spread pins, damaged connectors are possible causes. Perform the diagnostic for the DTC P258B regardless if it is set or not, since it is more compressive of a test than C1252-92. In addition when checking Vacuum lines, please ensure to check Vacuum hoses and check valves between the engine intake, booster and vacuum pump. Because the check valves only allow flow of air on one direction, each vacuum circuit must be checked separately to make sure there are no leaks, kinks or damages. Please refer to the correct vacuum diagram. For KL vehicles: inspect ALL under hood grounds for connection and contact issues. My Jeep is at the Ford Dealership I work at at this time. Didn't want to drive any farther than I had to at this time.
Front driver side brake caliper was sticking on right after I bought the car at approximately 86000 miles! I found an article about there being updated hoses right after my car was manufactured. The updated hoses are on the front brakes. Of course I read this article after assuming it was the caliper cause I couldn't squeeze the caliper piston in. I replaced it, with the same results! After I replaced the hose, its fine now. So I cut the hose in sections to found out where the hose was pinched, and its where the hose is crimped in a metal bracket that bolts to the axle. I have a picture of the part of the hose, I cannot see through tiny 3" section or stick a pin through it! I'm assuming the bracket rusted and pinched that section off.
The vehicle has 55,000 miles on it. BOTH brake calipers were stuck and grabbing. A complete front end redo for brakes & calipers at very low mileage. When braking to stop, it was all over the road and unpredictable.
The Front brake calibers ( both ) right and left have completely frozen and locked up under normal operation, twice, since the vehicle was bought new. It created direct emergent highway conditions as the vehicle became uncontrollable and created extremely high heat conditions to the rims/brake pads and bearings. Totaling over 2 thousand dollars in repairs
My 2017 Jeep Wranger Sahara Unlimited has 36,000 miles on it and the front right brake caliper seized up. It should not already be faulty with that low of miles. I have done researched and found numerous other people have had the same problem with the same year jeep as mine. I replaced the pads, rotor and caliper on it at my expense but it shouldnt have gone bad already. A definate recall should be done
Rear brakes locked up, over heating, burning smell.
My rear calipers are frozen. My car has 41,000 miles on it now and at 21,427 miles my rear calipers were frozen I paid and got them replaced and now again there frozen something doesn’t make sense
After driving vehicle, strong burning smell Took to dealership - diagnose is new calipers - 5 year old vehicle with 52,000 plus miles. Asked Chrysler to recognize through phone call to customer service??? Inquiring about warranty first then asking for them to recognize defect in same phone call - third party warranty is helping with costs - brake calipers and lines should not be failing on this vehicle at 5 years old 52,000 plus miles and unmodified
This jeep has 60,000 miles and is 5 years old and has had all 4 calipers seized and rotators brakes replaced and cylinders misfired in the engine that has been replaced. All this on a new vehicle is insane and a safety hazard for a vehicle this young AND with this low of mileage. I took ownership of this jeep in March of 2020 with 33k miles. Then in January 2021 with about 40k miles on the car being 3 1/2 years old the back calipers seized causing smoke and burning smell and was a fire hazard and unsafe to drive. Fast forward another year and a few months later on May 13th I was driving the vehicle and the BACK calipers siezed while in operation and now both rear sides had to be replaced, rotators, calipers, brakes and hoses. A year and 1/2 later only 15,000 more miles. So now all 4 calipers siezed and were replaced, motors, brakes, hoses. This most recent time it was to the cost of $1427.15. I googled this issue and it is a common issue and a known issue in jeeps especially in 2017s. A complaint from 2017 shows a gentleman was reimbursed for this exact issue by FCA after his complaint and I am looking for the same. I have also had the engine cylinders misfire and go up in this jeep as well that occurred 2 months ago!
The car brakes failed Thursday May 5, 2021 while I was in the open road. The car did not have any prior warning sign indicating there was an issue with the brakes until after the fact, which with the help of the emergency brake I was able to park on the side of the road and have a towing company pick it up. My car has been at the dodge, Jeep Wrangler dealership since. I contacted the dealer that sold me the car “EchoPark at Grand Prairie” in Texas, the dealer was aware that the brake pads were well below 50% of useful life when they sold me that car that was ultimately the thing that caused my brakes to fail and they’ve refused to pay for the damages occurred, or compensate me in any sort of way. I believe my life and my friends life(a pregnant woman) who was my passenger was put at risk because the dealership failed to check on an item that needed to be check before the car was sold to me. I’ve keep calling the dealership where the car was purchased and they only paying for the broken Caliper through a extended warranty and refused to pay for the additional damaged Ive incurred due to their negligence.
The contact stated the vehicle was exhibiting a pulling sensation and jerking. The vehicle did not display any warning lights. The contact took the vehicle to the dealership who diagnosed that the calibers failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware and confirmed the repair was not covered under warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 31,069.
DTCs for left AND right rear wheel sensors. wiring was open on sensors and caused the speed sensors to not read properly at times 3.00. the sensors were replaced at Mac Haik. 3 other jeeps had the same issue the same day. ABS and traction control lights on dash came on before the sensors were replaced and applying gas did nothing. my jeep was automatically applying my breaks even when I went 5 mph.
We took our car to Rairdon's Dodge Chrysler Jeep of Kirkland for oil change and checking the brake on February 12th because the rare brake had been making some noises and might need a replacement soon. The estimate for the services that we requested plus the additional services that they claimed to be critical was over $2,000. We did not question the amount because safety first and we trusted them to do a good job. We picked up the car on February 15th and paid $2,863.68. We drove home and did not use it until a week later. While driving on a highway, the brake was very loose and there was a huge sound when driving over a speed bump. We checked the car and noticed that a part came off and hanging from the base of the car. We had our car towed back to the shop on March 7th and the staffed confirmed that the caliper had fell off. The service director said they did not touch the caliper when they performed the initial service. Therefore, she was not sure what happened to the car. This is a serious safety issue because we could have get into a car accident or hit other people in the street.
Both front calipers froze at 48,663 miles causing excessive smoke and brake damage. Only symptom was shaking of steering wheel during normal use. Stopped immediately. Vehicle towed, cost to repair $1200.00
ANTI LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM AND TRACTION CONTROL ACTIVATE AT LOW SPEEDS - AT 5-10 MPH. IT APPLIES THE BRAKES WITHOUT WARNING AND CUTS POWER TO THE ENGINE.
2017 jeep Wrangler sport JKU all stock, normal road tires from the dealership, rear and front driver side break caliper is sticking and causing break drag at 32,000. due to this causing the rear break pads to prematurely wear bi-lateral and damaging the rotor on the affected side, causing the vehicle to operate at higher RPMS as the breaks are dragging. due to the heat the caliper boot was damaged as well. Excessive dust on rim and burning break smell with excessive friction heat along with the vehicle pulls to affected side when you let go of the wheel at residential speeds. the heat causes a dangerous break lag and the break pedal is harder to depress as what i believe is fluid not making it back to the master cylinder. when the vehicle is in drive you let your foot off the break on level ground the vehicle dose not move as it should when the transmission is in drive at idle, no gas given, the breaks squeak and jump grip as the jeep tries to move when gas is given, the break is stuck on the rotor. rear breaks where replaced bilaterally cleaned with new calipers, high temp silicone grease , rotors and ceramic pads is hopes to fix the problem. after that is when the front driver caliper was noticeably showing the same signs as the rear did. to have a non dealership mechanic do the job is 970.00.vehicle drives as if the emergency break is on but was inspected and is not touching the inner drum. vehicle is not heavily uses ether 1.)no lights or check break lights luminated its all feel. no accidents due to the break lag but is very dangerous if you need to stop suddenly. 2.)issue confirmed by a independent service center mechanic 3.) at 15,000 miles vehicle was taken back to the dealership for a break groaning sound and squeak when backing up or when driving, dealer stated it was just dust on the pads, inspection found no issues. after the visit the sound would still periodically kept reoccurring but was kept being told "dust" not sure if that was a early sign

DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEED OF 63 MPH ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED JEEP LOST SPEED IMMEDIATELY. FELT LIKE THE BRAKES WERE STUCK SMELLED A TERRIBLE BURNING SMELL
Mileage: 24,000
WHEN THE HEAT WAS TURNED ON A BURNING SMELL WAS DETECTED. VEHICLE WAS TAKING TO THE DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND AN ANALYZE FOR THE BURNING ODOR, THIS VEHICLE IS AT 52000 MILES. RESULT: MAJOR LEAK TO THE OIL FILTER HOUSING AND THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT IS ALSO LEAKING GREASE. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT BEING USING FOR OFF-ROADING OR 4WD DEALER STATED THAT THE OIL FILTER HOUSING WAS FIXED AND THE VEHICLE CAN BE DRIVEN WHILE WAITING ON THE OTHER PARTS. I CONTINUE TO DETECT THE BURNING ODOR. THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO LEAK OIL. ON FURTHER INSPECTION THE COOLANT AND THE RADIATOR IS EMPTY. DEALER MECHANIC STATED THAT THE RADIATOR IS LEAKING AND THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE. I AM NOT THE ONLY CUSTOMER THAT IS HAVING THIS ISSUE; WHEN INQUIRED ABOUT A RECALL, I WAS TOLD THAT CURRENTLY THE MANUFACTURE DOES NOT HAVE ONE IN PLACE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE MANUFACTURE IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE IT AND ONCE THE VEHICLE REACHES 50,000 MILES AND OUT OF WARRANTY, IT IS NOW THE CUSTOMER PROBLEM.
MY CAR WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALER FOR THE SAME REPAIR 3 TIMES IN THE LAST THREE MONTHS. IT WAS NEVER CORRECTED PROPERLY. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DASHBOARD WAS ON (WHILE IN MOTION AND STATIONARY ON ROADS AND HIGHWAYS)BECAUSE THERE WAS A ENGINE CALIBER MISFIRE. BRAKES WERE SQUEAKING AFTER BEING REPLACED. BROUGHT MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALER ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 27, DEMANDING THIS REPAIR BE DONE PROPERLY. NAME OF THE DEALERSHIP IS EMPIRE JEEP DODGE LOCATED ON SUNRISE HIGHWAY IN WEST ISLIP NEW YORK. MY VEHICLE IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP - BEING WORKED ON. PER THE CONVERSATION WITH THEIR ASSOCIATE TODAY, MY CAR SHOULD BE READY BY TODAY 12/1 OR TOMORROW 12/2. MY DASH KEEPS LOOSING POWER AND WHEN IT DOES I HAVE NO BREAKS OR LIGHTS. EVERYTHING DROPS TO ZERO AND THEN IT WILL JUST JUMP BACK UP AGAIN. MY ABSOLUTE, BRAKES,BATTERY, SEATBELT SENSORS KEEP GOING ON AND OFF. THIS HAPPENS MOVING AND IN PARK. OCCASIONALLY IT WON'T START EITHER. I HAVE HAD THE BATTERY, ALTERNATOR AND STARTER TESTED. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL WHEN GETTING IT CHECKED AND INSPECTION BUT UPON CALLING THE READERSHIP I WAS TOLD NO.

ABS AND TRACTION SENSORS COME ON WHEN TURNING LEFT. ABS SOMETIMES DEPLOYS WHEN THESE LIGHTS ARE ON WHEN BRAKING. SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING IN A VEHICLE THAT IS 3 YEARS OLD. I AM HEARING THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN JEEP WRANGLERS FROM THIS TIME PERIOD.

FRONT RIGHT BRAKE ON '17 WRANGLER (CALIPER) FROZE SHUT WHILE IN MOTION ON HIGHWAY MOVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH. SMOKE WAS VISIBLE ABOVE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL, VEHICLE SHOOK WHILE IN MOTION. VEHICLE HAS 19,000 MILES, ZERO INDICATION OF LOW BRAKE PADS WHICH SHOULD LAST WELL OVER 45,000 MILES, AND ONLY THE RIGHT BRAKE PAD WORE DOWN. DEALERSHIP CLAIMS LOW BRAKE PAD CAUSED ISSUE, THEREFORE WEAR & TEAR. DUE TO NO PRIOR BRAKE ISSUES/SLOW BRAKING/ SQUEAKING, AND CURRENT MILEAGE, I'M OF THE OPINION THAT BRAKES LOCKED DUE TO DESIGN OR MECHANICAL ISSUES RATHER THAN LACK OF MAINTENANCE.

WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM, ANTI-SKID BRAKING SYSTEM, AND OR THE COMBINED OPERATION OF THESE SYSTEMS FOR STABILITY CONTROL, ENGAGED INTERMITTENTLY AND UNEVENLY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO PULL TO ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER. THIS HAS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY FIVE TIMES UNDER THREE DIFFERENT DRIVERS ALL AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEED AND UNDER DRY ROAD CONDITIONS. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, THERE WAS AN AUDIBLE NOISE (LIKE A VIBRATION SOUND) OF THE BRAKES BEING AUTOMATICALLY APPLIED AND A PULSING IN THE BRAKE PULL. THE SYSTEM HAS ENGAGED ITSELF WHILE THE GAS PEDAL WAS BEING APPLIED AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON DRY PAVEMENT. IMMEDIATELY UPON THE SYSTEM'S APPLICATION I MOVED MY GAS PEDAL FOOT TO THE BRAKE WHERE AS I APPLIED THE BRAKES I COULD FEEL THE PULSING IN THE PEDAL. THIS SITUATION IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD. WHEN IT OCCURS IT BOTH STARTLES THE DRIVER AND CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE TO ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER. THE SYSTEM IS DEFINITELY APPLYING UNEVEN BRAKING TO THE WHEELS TO CAUSE THE SWERVING. WE HAVE DISENGAGED THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM IN ORDER TO DRIVE THE JEEP IN A SAFE MANNER. HOWEVER, IT REQUIRES THE DRIVER TO DISENGAGE EVERY TIME YOU START THE VEHICLE. AT PRESENT EACH DEALER HAS BEEN NONRESPONSIVE IN TAKING ACTION TO CORRECT THIS VEHICLE PROBLEM, THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. EACH TIME THEY SAY THAT THEIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM IS NOT INDICATING ANY PROBLEMS.

THE PIN HOLDING THE BRAKE PEDDLE TO THE FIREWALL CAME LOOSE AFTER A ECLIP ON ONE END OF PIN FELL OUT. THIS HAPPED WHILE I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT.
WHILE IN DRIVE AND MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE IN TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY, MY VEHICLE BEGAN CREEPING FORWARD. I PRESSED FIRMLY ON THE BREAK AND THERE WAS NO CHANGE IN MOVEMENT. THE VEHICLE KEPT ROLLING FORWARD. I PUT IT IN PARK AND NO CHANGE. I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND TURNED IT BACK ON. THE VEHICLE THEN STOPPED, ALMOST HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT.

CONSISTENTLY "SPONGY BRAKES" HAVING CONTINUED DECREASED STOPPING ABILITY FOR 6 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE. ON 06/05/2018 HAD BRAKES INSPECTED BY DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEY WERE FINE. ON 06/14/2018 VEHICLE WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP AT DRIVE-THRU RESTAURANT WITH BRAKE PEDAL COMPLETELY ENGAGED AND VEHICLE MOVED AND ROLLED FORWARD INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT, CAUSING DAMAGE. UNAWARE OF A PROBLEM THINKING IT WAS DRIVER ERROR EVEN THOUGH DRIVER STATED "FOOT WAS ON BRAKE THE WHOLE TIME" THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED MINIMAL DAMAGE AND WAS CONTINUED TO BE DRIVEN. ON JULY 7, 2018, WITH DIFFERENT DRIVER, BRAKE FULLY ENGAGED AT STOP LIGHT AND ON CITY ROAD AND VEHICLE "ROLLED FORWARD" AND HIT VEHICLE IN FRONT. ON JULY 9, 2018 VEHICLE WAS DELIVERED TO DEALERSHIP WITH THIRD DRIVER AND BRAKES FAILED TO STOP AT STOP SIGN GOING INTO TRAFFIC ON CITY ROAD WITH BRAKE BEING ENGAGED AND THEN GOING TO THE "FLOOR" OF VEHICLE. ON JULY 17, 2018 DEALERSHIP STATE MASTER CYLINDER HAS INTERNAL FAILURE AND IT WAS READY TO BE PICKED UP. UPON TEST DRIVING, BRAKES CONTINUED TO "GO TO THE FLOOR" AFTER BRAKING AND STOPPING. DEALERSHIP KEPT VEHICLE AND "FOUND INTERNAL LEAK AT THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER THAT LEAKED INTO BRAKE BOOSTER AND HCU NOT RESPONDING AND FOUND INTERNAL FAILURE INT HE HCU. VEHICLE WAS PICKED UP AUGUST 15, 2018. VEHICLE APPEARED TO BE OPERATING EFFICIENTLY; BUT, SEEMED TO STILL HAVE "PLAY" IN THE BRAKES. HAD FOURTH DRIVER TEST DRIVE, THAT IS EXPERIENCE IN CAR/MOTORCYCLE REPAIR AND STATED THAT BRAKES STOPPED VEHICLE; BUT, WHEN SLAMMED TO "LOCK" THEY NEVER LOCKED BEFORE ABS KICKED IN. ALL 3 DRIVERS OF JEEP NOTICED BRAKES STARTING TO DEVELOP THE SAME ISSUE AS PREVIOUSLY EXPERIENCED. TRADED JEEP IN ON NEW VEHICLE AS 17 YR. OLD DRIVER WAS MAIN DRIVER ON VEHICLE AND FELT TOO DANGEROUS TO RISK THIS ISSUE AGAIN.

TOOK 2016 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED RUBICON HARD ROCK EDITION IN FOR A RECALL REPAIR OF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT SENSOR. DEALERSHIP WANTED $50 TO DO THE WORK BECAUSE I HAD A WINCH INSTALLED. MY JEEP HARD ROCK EDITION WAS DESIGNED AT THE FACTORY TO RECEIVE THIS SPECIFIC BRAND AND MODEL OF WINCH SO I REFUSED TO PAY. I CONTACTED JEEP BY PHONE AND ASKED THEM TO INTERVENE. THEY REFUSED. I TOLD THE DEALER I WAS LEAVING WITHOUT HAVING IT FIXED AND MY ESTATE WOULD SUE THEM IF I WAS KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT AND THEN HE AGREED TO FIX IT FREE. THEY CLAIMED THEY FIXED IT BUT WHEN I DROVE OFF I IMMEDIATELY SAW A WARNING MESSAGE SAYING THE RIGHT FRONT TURN SIGNAL LAMP WAS OUT. I MADE U TURN AND WENT RIGHT BACK.THEY SAID THEY NEEDED TO ORDER A PART. I LEFT. THEN MY BATTERY DRAINED DOWN. I CONTACTED JEEP AND ASKED THEM TO INTERVENE. WHEN I CALLED TO MAKE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT TO GET THE RECALL DONE RIGHT THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED THEY NEEDED TO ORDER A PART. I FOUND OUT THEY DID THE RECALL REPAIR BY SOLDERING WIRES. 2+ HOURS LATER THEY SAID ALL IT NEEDED WAS A BULB. I ASKED IF THEY HAD TO ORDER BULBS. THEY SAID THEY STOCK THEM AND DENIED EVER TELLING ME THEY NEEDED TO ORDER A PART. THEY ADMITTED THERE WAS STILL AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM BUT SAID THAT COULD HAVE BEEN THE RESULT OF ELECTRICAL MODIFICATIONS I HAD MADE AND WANTED ME TO PAY THEM TO TROUBLESHOOT IT. THE WINCH WAS THE ONLY ELECTRICAL MODIFICATION AND IT WAS INSTALLED ALMOST 1 YEAR BEFORE I TOOK THE JEEP IN AND I NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS BEFORE THEY DID THE RECALL WORK NOR DID THEY HAVE ANY TROUBLE STARTING IT OR SEE ANY WARNING MESSAGES WHEN I TOOK IT IN FIR THE RECALL IN LATE AUGUST. WITHIN 2 MILES OF DRIVING I NOTICED THE HEADLIGHTS FLICKERING. WITHIN 3 MILES ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH STARTED WILDLY GOING OFF AN ON RANDOMLY AND SPEEDOMETER WAS GOING BACK AND FORTH. THEY DID NOT PROPERLY MAKE THE AIRBAG SENSOR REPAIR.
