Problem Description (very important): My 2018 Jeep Wrangler experiences a severe and violent front-end shaking commonly referred to as “death wobble.” This occurs while driving at highway speeds and makes the vehicle difficult to control until I slow down significantly. The shaking feels dangerous and unpredictable and creates a serious safety risk. I transport my children in this vehicle, and this issue is frightening and unsafe for passengers and other drivers. My dealership states there is no recall, but I am aware of widespread consumer complaints, documented defects, and lawsuits involving death wobble in Jeep Wranglers, including the 2018 model year. I believe this is a known steering/suspension defect and not normal wear and tear. I am reporting this for safety reasons.

Dec 27, 2025

My 2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited has experienced repeated no-start failures and electrical/CAN-bus communication issues. The vehicle has intermittently failed to start and ultimately became completely inoperable. Due to the electrical failure, the vehicle was towed to an authorized Jeep dealership on June 8, 2025. Despite remaining in the dealership’s possession for several months, no diagnostic testing or repairs have been completed. The electrical failure prevents safe and reliable operation of the vehicle and poses a risk of being stranded without warning. As of December 2025, the vehicle remains inoperable and unrepaired.

I took my JEEP to the dealer because it was making a rubbing sound. They told me the rear end and differential where out and needed replaced. Originally the parts were on a 45 day backorder. 3 months later the parts on still on back order. I notified Jeep customer service, my case manager said the parts may be available Dec. 19th. There is a high demand for these parts and that there are not enough available.

The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the transmission failed to shift out of first gear and failed to exceed 8 MPH. The RPM was elevated almost to the red line. The contact stated that the failure had occurred several times, and the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure was not duplicated. The contact later purchased a portable diagnostic tester. The contact retrieved DTC: U414 (Transmission Control Module Failure). The dealer was contacted and advised the contact to take the vehicle in for a diagnostic test. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the diagnostic test. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.

My 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Sport is experiencing multiple premature engine failures that present a serious safety risk: •Vehicle overheats while driving. •Recurrent misfire on Cylinder #5 (DTC P0305). •White exhaust smoke with a sweet coolant smell on cold start. •Coolant loss despite recent refill. •Oil contamination with metallic particles found during inspection. •Valvetrain noise from the right bank, suspected intake camshaft wear. These conditions create a risk of engine seizure or sudden stalling while driving, which could cause a crash. Manufacturer awareness: Jeep/Mopar has issued bulletins acknowledging these exact problems, including: •TSB MC-11018482-0001 (May 2025): Intake camshaft/rocker wear causing misfires (P0301–P0306). •Customer Satisfaction Notification ZD8 (2023): Coolant inlet tube fastener issue causing coolant leaks and overheating. My vehicle’s symptoms directly align with these known manufacturer issues. Despite this, Jeep/Mopar has denied goodwill repair coverage. Safety Concern: This defect is not just a performance issue — it creates a high probability of sudden engine stall or seizure, endangering me, my passengers, and other drivers. I am requesting NHTSA investigate premature engine failures on the Jeep Wrangler JL (3.6L Pentastar) and require Jeep/Mopar (Stellantis) to address this safety hazard.

The panel display is short circuiting. It flickers on and off then goes black. Abs modular was malfunctioning, had to be place and damage the Axel Locker system- jeep wouldn't come out of park.

Vehicle loses power steering while driving and is near impossible to steer when this happens. If in a curve i'm afraid the vehicle will not respond in time and leave the roadway or cross into oncoming traffic.

First it was my clutch blowing up including the transmission from underneath me while I drove down a hwy. Then it was a month later before I got it back. (I'm single, and it's my only vehicle). Once I got my jeep back the start/stop button stopped working. I had to lock/unlock with the key fob for it to start. Even with both fobs in the jeep. Now every code, 101 to be exact) is being thrown out of nowhere. Every light goes off, the wipers start going off, the sway bar and traction control disconnects while I'm driving along with the steering wheel locking up while I'm driving down the hwy. The brakes are pulling very badky to the left and /or right. The entire thing is absolutely a death trap. I can't believe this was passed by someone who has the customers best interest for safety. I'd like to know if any of this is recalled because it's been every jeep from 2018-2021 that have this issues. Also 5th gear now vibrats pretty bad.

Mar 11, 2025

While driving the transmission and clutch system blew up. And I mean that in the literale sense. Sparks and a big flash. Unfortunately, I was an hour away from where I live. This caused me to have to find a way home and find a tow company that would be able to pick up my jeep on the side of the highway, tow it an hour to me. I couldn't afford that, so it was taken to the Chrysler dealership there and it was there for a month before they could work on it due to the parts having to be ordered and shipped in. Once the entire clutch system and transmission fully replaced I have to find a way to go back and pick it up. It was after hours when I finally got to it. That's when the mechanic that worked on it researched and found the recall for the transmission and clutch system because they would blow up. Just as mine did. But the next set of problems started as soon as I picked my jeep up. Pulls to the right when braking, push start won't start saying the fobs are not detected while I'm holding them in my hands. All lights on cluster go off randomly, the steering wheel locks up while I'm driving causing more danger. The traction control, sway bar will go off and on as well as the push start will not turn off. I did manage to take a short clip of this happening while I'm driving.

The vehicle will intermittently struggle to engage in 1st gear, the brake pedal gets hard, the auto stop start light will display on the dash and the esc light will display on the dash. Each issue may occur separately, not at all or they will all occur within 5 mins of driving the vehicle. I have been at a traffic light where the vehicle would not immediately engage in 1st gear and the vehicle behind me came within a few inches of rear ending my vehicle when I did not begin moving with the flow of traffic. I also have a similar experience with the auto stop start system failing while at a traffic light which caused the vehicle to stall in the intersection and I could not restart the vehicle without completely power cycling the ignition two times. The problems have been reproduced on multiple occasions throughout the past month. The vehicle has not been inspected by a 3rd party and the warning lights and alert messages that appeared for auto stop start system/ esc system did not appear until the problem occurred.

Feb 13, 2025 Crash

My vehicle will randomly have the check engine light come on, a service shifter light come on, and then lose the ability to steer. I have taken it to the dealership twice and told it was fixed. Now it is back at the dealership for the third time. As a result of this issue I was involved in a car accident when a van came into my lane and I was unable to avoid impact and they were able to leave the scene. This is a safety issue for not only myself and anyone in my car but also anyone on the road around me. I did not file a police report regarding the accident as my situation involves a language barrier and I was so upset I just wanted to get home and be safe. Now I am in a state of fear anytime I drive my vehicle. I did have passengers and witnesses for two different instances where our lives were put in jeopordy because of this issue. On a separate occasion we were on a busy highway lost steering and were unable to get out of first gear. If I end up in a court situation I have several witnesses that would all be willing to make statements on my behalf as their lives were also put in jeopardy. I'm very upset as this vehicle was expensive and I bought it brand new. Now I've been out of a car for weeks and am being told I may have to pay for something that is clearly an ongoing issue. I have read several forums and articles and complaints from fellow jeep owners, many the same year, who have experienced the same issue. This is horrendous! My service records are all on file with Auto Centro Caguas in Puerto Rico.

Rear axle and differential began to make a whirring noise indicating bad bearings. After taking it to a shop who replaced the axle shaft, the noise continued. They noticed excessive wear in the differential components and said that it requires a rebuild. Another shop looked at it and agreed on the excessive wear, advising that the vehicle is undriveable until it can be repaired. The second shop has said this is becoming a common failure on this line of Jeep Wranglers and it ends up requiring a full replacement of the entire axle housing and assembly. The vehicle is undriveable because if the rear axle fails it would no longer be able to move. As it has not been repaired as of the date of this report, the components are available for inspection.

The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving over a significantly bumpy road surface and exceeding 50 MPH, the vehicle experienced the death wobble. The contact stated that the front end of the vehicle and the steering wheel shuddered violently. The contact released the accelerator pedal and the vehicle responded as needed at slow speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the steering dampener had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the dealer replaced the steering dampener several times under warranty; however, the failure progressively worsened and occurred while driving over minor bumps. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer, Northland Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (14100 Eight Mile W, Oak Park, MI 48237); where it was diagnosed that the traction bar needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was unknown.

After starting the Jeep Wrangler it will not shift into drive and it says shifter needs service, then ABS needs service start stop needs service, it keeps flashing these warnings. It can sit for a hour or day then becomes driveable, took to local mechanic he says it's a Jeep dealer problem (had several people with this problem) they did repairs, but call them and they say never heard of this problem. It's a 2018 Jeep Wrangler.

VIN [XXX] Hi everyone, I’m new to the group and hoping for some guidance and support. I tried to message Jeep Cares but the message button does not appear on their profile name. I bought my 2018 Jeep wrangler JKU Rubicon December 2021 with 29k miles on it and by May 2022 my clutch blew out with only 32k miles on it! They said it was the worst they’ve seen (doubt it) and would not cover it. In fact, they wanted $4k to replace it with a mopar one. I told them where to go and bought a centerforce dual friction and had it installed at a local shop for $3,700. I chose centerforce to avoid having issues again with the mopar one. Everything was fine till the rear main seal went out and had to be replaced under warranty. When I got it back there was a ticking noise at the top of the clutch pedal and they didn’t even put the heat shield back in so the cab was hot as hell. I ended up paying a local shop to put the heat shield back in since the dealer said they were behind and would take months. Now here I am a year later. The dealer just installed a new engine under warranty after only 47k miles on the original. They just called to tell me the work is done but btw…the clutch is blown. I told them there’s no way in hell that’s possible since I just put on in on May 2022. I reminded them I reported the noise back when I got it back from the rear main seal being done. I was then told she was going to “talk to her manager “. The next call was to tell me “sorry, we can’t do anything and it’s dangerous to drive it the way it is. I had no other choice but to authorize another clutch. I can’t afford to spend another $3,700. I’ve driven a clutch since I was 12 on my grandpas farm. This is absurd. Every vehicle I’ve had has been clutch and never had a problem till I bought this one. Where do I start? Not only should they put a new one in now but they should also reimburse me for the last one! Why is this happening and how do I prevent it again? INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT

The Wrangler will shift out of gear and into neutral and steering become very hard and difficult to maneuver while accelerating from a stopped position and at times at highway speed. On the highway one can coast to the side of the road and shut off engine and restart and move again. This can also be done at an intersection but big safety concerns when pulling onto a highway with traffic, Multiple check lights will come on including check engine, stability control and service shifter. The Jeep has been taken to the dearer for repair to no resolve. Codes are cleared and problem persists. Began at about 70k miles and has persisted since.

I was stopped at a traffic light, when the light turned green, I started to move forward and in approximately 6-7 feet the vehicle come to a complete stop. The engine was still running, the engine light came on and the letter on the shifter started to blink. The rear tires/drive train locked up. This through me forward and I was wearing my safety belt. The vehicle was towed to a jeep dealer ship; the car had to be dragged onto the flat bed. The tow truck driver needed to use a soup product to slide the car on the street and on to the bed. I will not hear back from the dealer ship till next week on exactly what happened. I was coming out of the mall parking lot to get onto the Garden State Parkway. If I had been on the Parkway doing 65 mph, I firmly believe I would have been severely injured. I have been told by the dealer ship they have seen this throughout the brands. The dealer ship sells and services Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep. This is not the dealer I purchase the wrangler from. I purchased this vehicle as a certified used. I find this incident very disturbing and I am seriously concerned about someone getting severely hurt or worse a fatality. I would like to further discuss this with someone, this needs to be addressed.

Jeep dash warning lights will randomly all come on at once. This includes service shifter, service airbags, service braking system, ABS warning, cruise control disabled and many others. When it does this, which is daily, the power steering goes out completely at highway speeds and sometimes curves. This has caused me to nearly hit other drivers head on with my family in the vehicle with me. It has left me stranded many times by not recognizing the key fobs and locking the transmission in park at stop lights. I just bought the vehicle, with 64000 miles on it, in October as my primary transportation and I am afraid to drive it. This has caused me severe hardship and endangered mine and my family's life on several occasions. This problem is extremely common with my model year, as seen on several online forums and Jeep has refused to acknowledge the problem or recall the vehicles. It was purchased from a Jeep dealer, Tim Short of Middlesboro Ky. I can understand wear and tear on vehicles, but this has been an issue with 2018 Jeep Rubicons for years. If this problem goes uncorrected, many people WILL die as a result of this issue. Autos are the only thing I know of that, if defective, cannot be returned for a full refund. Something should be done, since I have an 800 dollar monthly payment and nothing to show for it. Thank you for any help you may provide.

The first recall was issued almost 3 years ago and the "repair" was to add to a software update to solve with a mechanical issue. A warning light would be set to go on if the temperature of the clutch/transmission got above a certain temperature. This doesn't resolve the actual problem of a poorly designed clutch assembly. The second recall is for the same issue and has had a status of "remedy not available" for too long. The clutch assembly can overheat but the clutch also regularly slips creating acceleration issues. There have been countless occurrences of pulling into traffic and the clutch slipping and almost being hit by other vehicles. In addition, the potential for the transmission bell house to fracture and the vehicle to catch on fire is a major concern. There are many posts in online Jeep JL forums. There is a "jeep clutch recall" facebook group with man examples of these issues and the lack of concern from the manufacturer to offer a solution. Stellantis seems to know there is an issue but has been in no rush to rectify the situation. There has been very little communication about this issue and local Jeep dealerships never have any more information that consumers do. We need to have new clutch assemblies installed or be given a simple and quick way to be reimbursed for having an aftermarket clutch assembly installed.

The clutch plate has failed on my 2018 Jeep Wrangler. I brought it into the dealer to take a look at it when I was experiencing the clutch slipping while shifting into first gear and also the "Service Auto Start Stop" indicator illuminating. Once the indicator illuminated, it also prevented by cruise control from working. After the dealer conducted troubleshooting of the issue, they told me that it was due to a safety recall on the clutch plate but that parts were unavailable. This appointment took place on August 4th, 2023. I was told that this issue could lead to a fire, so I have not been driving the vehicle since then. As of October 31st 2023, they still do not have the necessary parts to fix the issue. In the meantime, I've had to arrange for alternate transportation which cost me ~$3,700.

- There was a recall issued in Feb'23 related to the clutch on manual transmissions, however a remedy has yet to be announced as of 9/28/2023 - Started experiencing issues with clutch in May'23. Clutch would slip while switching gears, gears would grind while shifting, engine would rev while maintaining gear, as the clutch/gears would slip in & out. No warning lamps or messages alerted related to this issue. - Took vehicle to dealer for inspection in May'23, dealer confirmed the clutch disc and release bearings were worn and the pressure plate and flywheel had hotspots and potential cracks, which is what was called out in the recall - dealer replaced flywheel clutch assembly, pressure plate and release bearing in Jun'23 - submitted expenses per recall guidance for reimbursement, but told by company that reimbursements will not be processed until remedy has been determined. 7 months and no remedy announced, and to hold reimbursements on fixes directly related to the recall are unacceptable.

My recently purchased Jeep Wrangler (certified pre-owned) [XXX] was included in the NHTSA recall #23V-116 which can result in a fire arising from a fractured clutch plate. Due to this significant safety risk, FCA has prohibited all dealers from selling manual transmission Wranglers models from 2018 to 2023. Therefore, it then comes as a total surprise that the dealer which sold the vehicle as Certified Pre-Owned declined to take the SUV back despite being still within warranty, driven for less than 3.000 miles and still with an opened unfixed safety recall. Attempting to remediate the situation I offered them the option of having the vehicle repaired - at their cost - with quality aftermarket parts, such as the CenterForce clutch assembly kit for Jeeps, but was also denied. On occasion while driving several dashboard error lights will go on. These include ABS, Traction Control, electronic stability control, air bag and brake light. When these lights come on the power steering is typically lost and making it extremely difficult to steer the Jeep. It takes everything my wife to turn the steering wheel and get off the road. The brakes also tend to be applied which further makes it difficult to turn as the vehicle is slowed down. This issue not only endangers the driver and passengers in my vehicle but also those around me due to the inability to properly control my vehicle. I have had the vehicle at the dealers service center and they are not sure what the issue is. They have been able to reproduce but are still trying to discover root cause. This seems to be a widespread problem as both my 2018 Jeep Wrangler and 2020 Jeep Gladiator have the identical issues. Seems like a long shot that both of my vehicles would have the same issue at the same time if it wasn't a common issue. When Googling the problem, I find a lot of articles and video's but no solid cause.

Clutch is making unexpected burning smell (after normal driving). Clutch pops out of gear while at highway speeds, and when in 4-wheel drive. Sometimes grinds during shift for no apparent reason. FCA says there is a recall effecting my vehicle, but part is still not available. FCA sends me to dealership for assessment. Dealership says there is nothing they can do as part is not available and they are..."at the mercy of Jeep." I'm afraid to drive the vehicle. It is my only vehicle.

The clutch on my jeep is acting up and there is a recall for it. But Jeep states they have no fix and are not able to tell me when they will come up with one. I feel they should just let aftermarket companies replace their defective clutches since they aren't really worried about the few folks with clutch issues. So currently I am driving a ticking timebomb. Once my transmission gets hot from the clutch it will cause a fire which Jeep is all aware of. This is a major safety issue. Imagine a car catching fire while driving on the highway. That would cause a massive pile up for sure.

My wife was driving her Jeep to work this morning and a warning message came on the info screen stating the vehicle was shutting down soon and to safely pull over. She only had a two minute warning which was not enough time to pull over to a safe place without risking injury from being hit from another vehicle. The Jeep ended up and powered down within the two minutes of receiving the warning which caused loss of engine power, no power steering and no power brakes. This seems to be a pretty dangerous combination. It literally left her in the roadway. We had the batteries checked and they are ok. The vehicle did start back but the warning light came on again so it is parked until we can get it towed to the dealership. Researching it online it seems to be a common issue with the 2018 JLU. She currently has 117,000 miles on the Jeep.

I was constantly smelling a burning odor and my clutch started slipping. Took vehicle to dealer and they said clutch and flywheel needed to be replaced but there were none available, and they had to be manufactured and could take 2 to 3 months. Unsatisfactory! I left the dealership which is nextdoor to my place of employment and completely lost the clutch on a busy road and had to be towed. I spent hours and days trying to find a clutch and finally located one and purchased it along with the flywheel. The repair seemed to be successful but now I am having that same burning smell. I received the recall notice 19A/NHTSA, however late, from FCA. It had the following statement: "WHAT IF I ALREADY PAID TO HAVE THIS REPAIR COMPLETED? If you have already experienced this specific condition and have paid to have it repaired, you may visit [XXX] to submit your reimbursement request online. Once we receive and verify the required documents, reimbursement will be sent to you within 60 days. If you have had previous repairs performed and/or already received reimbursement, you may still need to have the recall performed." I submitted my repair and proof of payment documents and they immediately closed my case because a remedy is not available. This makes no sense and contradicts the statement. Obviously I need to replace the clutch and flywheel. Now the replacement is putting off the same burning odor and I have to wait for a remedy knowing there is potential for a fire. I believe this has been an ongoing issue and should have been remedied long ago. Especially considering my vehicle is a 2018. There have been no warning indicators or lights. I drive my young grandsons around in this vehicle. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

At highway speeds when driving over surface imperfections, the jeep randomly and suddenly starts to wobble uncontrollably, with a significant wobble in the steering wheel. This wobbling goes away when the vehicle slows down, but pops up again in a random manner when driving over any surface imperfection / bump / road seam at highway speeds

Mar 12, 2023

Displays, "Service Shifter". Often followed by many, mostly random warnings, gauges fluctuate wildly, and disabled stop/start, traction and stability control; and sometimes loses power steering, and stalls and won't restart. The stereo volume, wipers, and cabin fan speed also can fluctuate wildly; worst case. This issue first appeared after going through a puddle, and seems to be exacerbated by high EMF areas; this is only corollary. This vehicle has never been used roughly or off road. The obvious dangers are, spontaneous maniacal warnings are a significant distraction to driving; if stop/start is not disabled vehicle will not start after stop at intersection, causing disruption to traffic; if power steering randomly stops working, which occurs while stopped or driving, the vehicle is nearly impossible to drive, and can only practically be driven by a strongman athlete. The coup de grâce where everything goes berserk, is usually when parked and attempting to reset the condition. The problem has not been reproduced by a dealer or service center; I have spent days inspecting grounds, harnesses, and inspecting, cleaning and replacing connectors. There's also a long list of mostly random codes for nearly everything, including the persistent lost communication with TCM. Up to October 2022 and 66,000 miles the only warnings or codes were for, wheel sensor (rep under warrantee), and "Small Leak In Vapor Recovery System" (leaky gas cap). A month+ after the warrantee expired, at about 66,000 mi, the vehicle began to generate random warnings and codes, and became unbearable (and dangerous) to drive. My observations and inspections and limited testing (haven't probed system circuits directly) lead to an assertion that the problem is system wide; many wildly various, mostly non repeatable, codes are recorded, systems that shut down are wildly various and not always repeatable; like there's nothing specifically or consistently wrong-but everything is failing. 5V reg in TCM?

On multiple occasions I have been driving to work (45 min drive) when all of my dash lights and emergency lights go on. I am then notified on the dash of start /stop system failure(which is off), The emergency hand brake light is on, electric stability control failure, service antilock break system, auto park disabled and my radio volume going to max. This is then followed by my power steering or something locks up not allowing me to steer my car that is in motion! Once I stop I turn the car off and it won’t start again. I have waited 20 min and restart the car which then the shifter won’t let me put into drive! This has happened mulitple times and I have taken to my trusted mechanic to repair but was informed it is a recall on my vehicle…. When I look up my vin no recall reported so he gave me a form of the recall. Please help me, I’m honestly scared to drive my car because I don’t want this to happen while I’m on a highway or cause me to be in an accident. I shouldn’t be scared to drive my car.

This vehicle underwent two recalls for clutch and pressure plate related problems yet it still happened to me twice and Jeep refuses to fix it. There is now a 3rd recall in the works. The clutch plate grenades and blows a hole through the transmission and other parts. The projectile of these parts is so very dangerous. It is clearly defective. I am paying 38000 for a useless vehicle.

The first instance happened on or about February 27, 2021 at mileage 48,865 I was traveling on an interstate and I completely lost all power to my transmission and my jeep started to smoke heavily as I pulled off to the side of the road. The jeep company refused to pay for the repair even though there was a recall on the clutch. After I posted on social media about the issue, Jeep reached out to me in a DM and resolved the issue. The same issue happened on or about in November/December 2022. Given my past history the the jeep I recognized the same symptoms of the clutch failing and stopped driving the jeep. I contacted several local dealers to see if they would repair it and again told me that there is nothing wrong with the clutch, and it was not covered under any recall since it was fix for the first clutch failure. I reached out to jeep through social media and was told that there was nothing they could do as there was no open recalls. Having no faith in the jeep parts I had the jeep towed to my local repair shop. It was confirmed that it was the same issue. I told them to fix the issue, but not to use any OME parts. I have had many manual tran cars and never had a clutch that went out, let alone with less than 50k miles on it. This jeep has had two (on the third) and each had less than 50 k. Given how the jeep can catch fire from this defect, it is sad that jeep does not take it seriously when life can be lost.

This vehicle has undergone two recalls for an issue involving the clutch and other parts in the same vicinity blowing apart, shooting out like a grenade, and causing catastrophic damage to the transmission, hoses, and whatever else might be in the way of the projectiles. This happened to me after I bought the car used, with very low mileage, and still under power train warranty. The dealer balked at first and tried to blame my tires until I mentioned the recalls. They then fixed it under the power train warranty. No less than 2 weeks later the same exact issue occurred yet again! (I had been nowhere near the clutch pedal and had not shifted for quite some time during either occurance) I pulled over immediately and shut down because I knew what had happened. It felt exactly the same. Now the dealership is insisting this isn't the case and that I get my auto insurance carrier involved. Simply because it projected a different way!!!!! I have been driving a manual transmission for almost 30 years now and have NEVER had any kind of issues in the past with any vehicles I have driven. This is ridiculous! Does someone have to lose their life before anything real is done?????

Clutch flywheel/ transmission issue. 2nd time in 3 months. The other night when it happened I was on a back road and had been in 4th gear for at least 10 minutes, and going approx 38 MPH. It was cold out. The vehicle decided to only rev as if in neutral when I depressed the gas pedal. I immediately pulled over and saw sparks and smoke again before quickly shutting her down. This time I not only felt that same thud, but also what felt like a cable and a spring break loose. The clutch was at half mast with some resistance left to it.

I had the Y03 recall done on August 30, 2021. My 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Sahara Unlimited has 53,00 miles. On my way home from vacation, June 4, 2022, my clutch plate overheated, exploded through the bell housing and transmission, burnt the wire casing, and melted the fuel line. I had to leave my Jeep in NC and get a rental car to make it home. After being at a dealership 7 hours away from home for a week in Jacksonville, NC, I am told by the dealer that Chrysler will not honor my Powertrain warranty because the clutch is not a covered component; however, the issue that occurred with the clutch and how it occurred is exactly what both the Y03 and W12 recall said could happen. The W12 recall is still showing "incomplete in every location I've checked, including Chrysler and Mopar; however, I am being told that the simpler fix noted in the Y03 recall supersedes the W12 recall instructions - which required service techs to perform a hydraulic clutch system bleed and also perform of clutch health check procedure; whereas the Y03 skips these steps. I spoke to someone at MOPAR who told me that all components related to the recall (i.e. the clutch) have a 2-year warranty after the recall is completed, but any other components affected by the clutch failure are not covered. How can Jeep/Chrysler know there is an ongoing clutch issue specifically with the clutch plate and not honor/cover repairs that result because of it? And, how can a wire sheath and software update guarantee the potential failure is resolved if the clutch is never inspected to make sure the clutch plate hasn't already been compromised because of excessive heat? I have already filed a complaint with NHSTA, spoken to Chrysler Corporate (without any luck). Chrysler and Mopar should stand by their parts/vehicles when something catastrophic like this happens. Had the fuel line caused a fire, my Jeep could have exploded or caused a serious accident/death/injury.

The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving approximately 48 MPH, there was a burning rubber odor and a loud popping sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact stated that Roadside Assistance was called; while the vehicle was being raised up on the tow truck fuel started leaking from a damaged fuel line. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the clutch plate had malfunctioned and came apart creating a hole in the bell housing and damaging the fuel lines. The contact was informed that the transmission, clutch assembly, and fuel lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The contact indicated that the vehicle was previously serviced under the NHTSA campaign 20V124000 (Power Train) for the same failure. The failure mileage was 53,000.

Electrical system failure. All indicator lights come on and all safety feature warning lights activate. Automobile loses power and power steering stops working. Automobile then veered right into traffic other lanes of traffic on freeway. The problem has been confirmed by Ken Ganley Chrysler. The vehicle was inspected by Ken Ganley Automotive. Has been taken to the repair shop 4 times. Same problem continues to happen. Several warning lights came on all at once and vehicle lost power steering causing vehicle to veer right abruptly. Problem first occurred at the beginning of April 2022.

My jeep makes a thumping/clunking sound when ever I take my feet off the acceleration and slow down . When sitting in the Jeep it sound like it's coming from the front end suspension but when I stick my head out the window to listen and look for the sound it's clearly coming from the rear axle . I've done extensive research regarding this issue on jeep forums. I've found that this is a common issue among jeep jl owners . all have experience sounds that sound like its coming from the front only to find our it coming from the rear and also to have entire axle replaced. I fear this is getting worst as many has also said that upon inspecting axle metal shavings are found in diffs .

My 2018 wrangler accelerates when not on the gas pedal, and both the engine light and electronic throttle light comes on. My Jeep has been to the dealer 4 times for this issue and it still goes unfixed. It has been to an independent service center once, and they diagnosed the PCM (powertrain control module) as failing. This issue is very dangerous for myself and anyone else on the road as my jeep will accelerate at random.

Coming back from a mini vacation we stopped at a gas station to refuel. Could smell something burning but was not sure from where it was coming from. 45 minutes later we hard a loud pop and rpm’s went up. Clutch went completely out. Was barely able to pull it off the highway and into a gas station. Had to cut cars off due to not being able to put the jeep in gear to get rolling again. I’m three hours away from my home. Had just took the jeep to the dealer for service and was told EVERYTHING LOOKED GOOD. No issues with the clutch or anything along the lines of that. EXTREMELY upset. This need to be resolved ASAP. Broke down at 7:10pm wasn’t able to get a tow truck to me until 10:30pm

THE JEEP HAD BEEN IN MOTION FOR APPROXIMATELY 1/4 OF A MILE WHEN IT WAS SHIFTED INTO THIRD GEAR AND PART OF THE TRANSMISSION FELL OFF OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN SHIFTED INTO 4TH GEAR, AGAIN MORE PARTS FELL FROM BENEATH THE JEEP. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE GEAR CHANGE THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH ALL LIT UP AND BLACK SMOKE AND FLAMES WERE SEEN SIMULTANEOUSLY ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE JEEP WAS IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE 911 WAS CALLED. THE FIREFIGHTERS FOUND PIECES OF THE TRANSMISSION HUNDREDS OF YARDS FROM WHERE THE VEHICLE BECAME ENGULFED IN FLAMES.

MY CAR HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING THE 'DEATH WOBBLE' AS SOME DEALERSHIPS HAVE TOLD ME THAT. THE STEERING GETS A MIND OF ITS OWN AND ITS SUPER HARD TO CONTROL SOMETIMES. I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW CAR AND IT FEELS LIKE IM DRIVING A LEMON. ALMOST EVERY OTHER DAY SINCE I PURCHASED IT (ONE MONTH AGO) SEEMS LIKE IVE ALMOST GOTTEN INTO AN ACCIDENT.

THIS WAS FOUND DURING A TIRE REPLACEMENT. THE LEFT REAR BRAKE WAS COATED WITH "OIL" THAT I WAS TOLD CAME FROM THE REAR TRANSMISSION SEAL NEXT TO THE WHEEL LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS, AT TIMES, HARD TO STOP. I WAS FORCED TO "SLAM" ON THE BRAKES TO GET VEHICLE TO STOP. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE FEATURE SEEMED TO STOP WORKING AND I WOULD SKID TO A STOP. THERE WAS NO CONSISTENCY IN THE OCCURRENCE OF THIS SYMPTOM. THE DEALER TOLD US THAT THEY WERE REPLACING THE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY TO FIX THE PROBLEM.

JUST BOUGHT A 2018 WRANGLER JL LEFTOVER/ BRAND NEW OFF THE LOT. I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT THE STEERING IS VERY LOOSE AND DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE IN WIND OR IF DRIVING 55 MILES PER HOUR OR MORE. MY HUSBAND REFUSES TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE HE FEELS UNSAFE DOING SO. I GET VERY NERVOUS AS WELL. I'M CONSTANTLY HAVING TO ADJUST THE WHEEL TO STAY ON THE ROAD. THE SECOND ISSUE IS THAT SOMETIMES WHEN I SET THE CRUISE CONTROL IT WILL JUST KEEP GOING PAST MY DESIGNATED SPEED I CHOSE UNLESS I TURN IT OFF. LASTLY MY CAR SEEMS TO NOT SHIFT GEARS DOWN. IT THROTTLES AND REVS. WHEN I TOOK IT TO BE LOOKED AT I WAS TOLD IT'S NO BIG DEAL. WELL IT IS! EVEN MY LOCAL MECHANIC SAID HE FEELS THAT IT'S NOT SWITCHING PROPERLY BETWEEN GEARS. I'VE WAITED 22 YEARS TO BUY MY FIRST WRANGLER AND I PAID $42000 FOR IT. IT SHOULD NOT DO ANY OF THIS! IT'S BRAND NEW. IT'S ALSO A SAFETY HAZARD. I COULD GET INTO A MAJOR ACCIDENT! I NEED HELP WITH THESE THINGS PLEASE. STAND BEHIND YOUR PRODUCT. THIS IS MY FIRST WRANGLER BUT MY 4TH JEEP. I ALSO TALKED MY MOM AND BROTHER INTO BUYING NEW JEEPS THE SAME WEEK I DID LAST MONTH! MY CONTACT IS [XXX]. [XXX]. I'D LIKE CALL BACK SO SOMEONE CAN HELP ME. THANK YOU INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TT

AND IF YOU SHUT IT OFF IT WON'T START OR CRANK OVER UNTIL IT COOLS OFF. TOOK IN TO DEALER FOR WTY REPAIR, THEY REPLACED THE FUSE BOX , BUT THAT DIDN'T FIX IT. THEY TRIED AGAIN AND GIVE UP ON IT. SAID LIGHT BAR AND WINCH VOIDED THE WTY. WHICH BOTH CONNECT AT BATTERY AND WINCH HAS NEVER BEEN USED AND LIGHT BAR VERY SELDOM. IT HAS 8300 MILES ON IT NOW IT MAY GO 2 MONTHS AND BE FINE OR IT MAY DO IT 3 TIMES IN ONE DAY. LAST TIME IN SHOP WAS 2/27/19 THEY HAD IT FOR 10 DAYS THAT'S WHEN THEY DECIDED IT WAS ACCESSORIES AND NO WTY. IT WENT ALMOST 2000 MILES NOT ACTING UP UNTIL TODAY 5/25/19.

START ENGINE, PLACE FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL, PUT VEHICLE IN REVERSE. BEFORE EVEN LETTING FOOT COMPLETELY OFF OF BRAKE PEDAL ENGINE BEGINS TO STUTTER AND COMPLETELY STALLS OUT. HAVE TO PUT VEHICLE BACK IN PARK AND START VEHICLE BACK UP AND START PROCESS ALL OVER AGAIN HOPING THAT VEHICLES ENGINE DOES NOT CONTINUE TO STALL. STARTED HAPPENING APPROXIMATELY 3-MONTHS AGO. TOOK VEHICLE TO ROUEN CHRYSLER/DODGE/JEEP/RAM IN WOODVILLE, OHIO. THEY KEPT OVERNIGHT TO TRY TO REPLICATE ISSUE BUT STATED THAT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE. THEY DID END UP UPGRADING SOFTWARE ON A CONTROL MODULE IN HOPES THAT IT WOULD SOLVE THIS ISSUE. IT DID NOT. THEY DID STATE THAT SINCE THE ISSUE HAD BEEN DOCUMENTED ON THEIR END THAT IF A RECALL OR SAFETY ISSUE WAS RELEASED BY CHRYSLER THAT WHATEVER THE PROBLEM WAS WOULD BE FIXED AT NO CHARGE - EVEN IF VEHICLE WAS BEYOND THE MANUFACTURER WARRANTY. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS ISSUE IS OCCURRING MORE OFTEN THAN NOT AND IS BECOMING A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN FOR MY FAMILY. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED ASAP BEFORE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR INJURY OCCURS. I AM KINDLY REQUESTING THAT THE MANUFACTURER TAKE A SERIOUS LOOK AT THIS ISSUE AND CORRECT AS THEY SHOULD. IT SHOULD ALSO BE NOTED THAT I HAVE SEVERAL VIDEOS TAKEN WHERE THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THANK YOU.

AROUND 7000 MILES WE STARTED TO GET A VIBRATION THAT WOULD LAST TILL WE SLOWED DOWN EVERY TIME WE HIT A BUMP WITH OUR WRANGLER JL AT HIGHWAY SPEED. IT HAS SINCE TURNED INTO A VIOLENT SHAKE THAT WILL LITERALLY RATTLE YOUR TEETH. YOU CAN FEEL THE SHAKE THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE CARE AND ESPECIALLY ON THE WHEEL. THE BUMP IN ROAD DOES NOT HAVE TO BE BIG AND CAN BE AS SMALL AS THE PLACE WHERE THE ROAD CONNECTS TO AN OVERPASS. HAVING TO SLOW DOWN TO AROUND 40 MPH TO GET IT TO STOP WHEN ALL OTHER TRAFFIC IS TRAVELING 60+ MPH IS SCARY AND WE ARE NOW WORRIED FOR OUR SAFETY. HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN TO OUR JEEP DEALER 3 TIMES, BUT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THEY DID SAY THAT THEY CURRENTLY HAVE 3 OTHER JL WRANGLERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEY HAVE YET TO FIND A SOLUTION.

I DROVE FORWARD WITH MY FOOT ON THE GAS ABOUT 20 FEET. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE JEEP CAME TO A STOP AND SHUT OFF WHILE STILL IN DRIVE. I WOULD PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL TO MOVE FORWARD AND NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN IT JUST REMAINED STATIONARY.. ALL ELECTRONICS STILL WORKED IN THE CAR. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, TURNED ON MY HAZARDS TURNED THE JEEP OFF AND THEN BACK ON, AND ENGINE WAS NOT STARTING. TURNED IT ON AND OFF 3 MORE TIMES AND FINALLY THE ENGINE STARTED BACK UP ON THE 4TH TIME AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AWAY. THIS HAS NOT OCCURRED AGAIN, BUT I HAVE NOT DRIVEN IT OTHER THAN 20 MILES BACK HOME WHERE IT NOW IS SITTING WAITING TO GO TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP.

MOST RECENT INCIDENT: SUNDAY NEAR FRANKFURT AIRPORT THE ERROR CODE READ " SERVICE SHIFTER" AND THE ORANGE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. I DROVE INTO THE CAR PARK THEN TRIED TO SHIFT FROM DRIVE TO PARK AND THE JEEP LOCKED IN NEUTRAL. THE JEEP LOCKED UP AS IF IT WAS IN PARK SO WE COULD NOT PUSH OR PULL THE VEHICLE. I ALSO COULD NOT TURN THE VEHICLE OFF COMPLETELY. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WERE ON AND I COULD NOT TURN THEM OFF VIA THE IGNITION. THIS IS WHY THE BATTERY WAS DRAINED. THE CAR SAT SINCE SUNDAY ON UNTIL IT WAS TOWED AND YOUR STAFF WAS ABLE TO LOOK AT IT. PICTURES WILL FOLLOW IN THE NEXT EMAIL. PLEASE PULL ENTIRE DIAGNOSTIC HISTORY IF POSSIBLE. FIRST INCIDENT: VEHICLE DID THE SAME THING ON VOGELWEH AIR FORCE BASE. IT WAS TOWED TO MUM MATTUSCH. WHEN THEY LOOKED AT IT THE DIAGNOSIS WAS LOW BATTERY. IT WAS EXPLAINED THE DRAW ON THE BATTERY BY THE VEHICLE BUT SHOWED NO ISSUE AS THE VEHICLE WAS DRAINED AND UPON CHARGING THE BATTERY THAT MUST REBOOT THE ERROR CODE.

WHEN VEHICLE WAS LOWERED BY TOW TRUCK, ABOUT 1 LITER OF GASOLINE POURED DOWN OVER THE EXHAUST SYSTEM ON THE RIGHT REAR (PASSENGER) AND ONTO THE SERVICE BAY FLOOR. THE VEHICLE HAD A NEARLY FULL GAS TANK AT THE TIME OF THE TOW. IF THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN DRIVEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE GASOLINE HAD DUMPED AS MUCH VOLUME ONTO THE MUFFLER AND EXHAUST SYSTEM...BOTH THE VEHICLE AND THE DEALERSHIP WOULD HAVE MOST LIKELY BURNED. WHILE STARTING THE VEHICLE FOR THE THIRD TIME IN TWO DAYS AFTER PICKING UP THE CAR FOLLOWING A PCM FLASH FOR A CRUISE CONTROL RECALL, I NOTICED THE PRND LIGHTS FLASHING ON THE SHIFTIER APPROXIMATELY 10 SECONDS AFTER VEHICLE START. I SUBSEQUENTLY RECEIVED A CEL AND A "SERVICE SHIFTER' MESSAGE. I SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE, LET ALL DISPLAYS GO DARK, AND RESTARTED; THE CEL WENT AWAY. I PROCEEDED TO CONTINUE MY DRIVE HOME. ABOUT 10/15 MIN LATER, I NOTICED THE LIGHTS FLICKERING ONCE AGAIN ON THE SHIFTER. I ONCE AGAIN ELECTED TO CONTINUE HOME AS IT WAS LATE AT NIGHT. APPROXIMATELY 2/3 MILES LATER, I RECEIVED ERRORS ON THE START/STOP AND TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEMS. THE VEHICLE APPEARED TO GO INTO A "LIMP MODE" - I IT WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF 8TH GEAR AND I EXPERIENCED REDUCED POWER AND AN INABILITY TO MAINTAIN THE POSTED 70 MPH. I DECIDED TO EXIT AT THE NEXT OFF-RAMP AS I COULD MAINTAIN 65MPH. WHILE EXITING, I NOTICED THE GAUGE NEEDLES (SPEEDO AND TACH) SWEEP AND GOT AIRBAG WARNINGS. I HEARD THE ELECTRIC FAN GO 100% HIGH (VERY LOUD) AND I LOST POWER STEERING. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE. AFTER LETTING IT SIT FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 MIN, I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND WHILE THE CEL REMAINED NO OTHER ERRORS WERE ILLUMINATED OR PRESENTED. I WAS LESS THAN 2 MILES FROM A JEEP DEALER AND DECIDED TO TRY TO CONTINUE THERE ON ACCESS ROADS. ABOUT 1/8 MILE DOWN THE ROAD, I ONCE AGAIN LOST POWER STEERING AND SAY VARIOUS ERROR MESSAGES LIKE BEFORE. I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND ABORTED MY ATTEMPTS AND CALLED FOR A TOW TO THE DEALER LESS THAN A MILE AWAY. POSTED ARE PICTURES OF THE ERRORS READ USING AN OBD-2 SCANNER I HAD IN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT. WHILE I HAVE DRIVEN CARS WITHOUT POWER STEERING IN THE PAST, IT WAS RATHER DIFFICULT WITH THE LARGER ~32" TIRES AND I AM NOT SURE A CRASH COULD BE PREVENTED IF A SMALLER PERSON WAS DRIVING.
