My 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL has a known corrosion issue TSB31-001-19 and TSB31-002-20. Corrosion on doors and hinges and spot welds. I have called local dealers and they won’t help. I got with the Jeep help line and they gave me a case number and said they would not be doing anything about it. They never gave me the opportunity to send pictures of corrosion in said areas. There is a Goodwill program that I asked about and was refused so I’m reaching out to the NHTSA and BBB to get some help with this issue. This is a well known and documented issue and not owner negligence. The Case# given to me was 94287282.

After filing my first concern with the vehicle and attempting to rack my brain with answers to why a 2018 is falling apart at the seams, I can only come up with either fraud, or the vehicle has been modified in major ways and glued together only to fall apart every bump I go over. After some reading I’m questioning 49 CFR part 565 form that was turned in after I purchased the vehicle means that I possibly have a replica, “remanufactured”, or altered vehicle. I’m not sure of the legality of selling a vehicle built from whatever vehicles I have, I do know that parts are not all the same years upon scanning modules I got some strange replacement identifiers that I will send. I also question if it really passed emissions being that my short term fuel trim sensor passed the catalytic converter on both sides stays over 99% consistently, also one of the “inspection” reports was done 2 minutes apart and the paper states that the vehicle passed at 5:08 then failed at 5:10 pm the same day. Not many vehicles tend to try again after passing and 2 minutes apart. I would have never bought a vehicle that not only has random foreign parts but a 2015 vehicle is also showing up under module information. I’ll never have recall information, and it seems that every system in the vehicle meant to warn or save me and my family when driving is compromised completely, yet somehow someone was allowed to pretend that I was buying a 2018 jeep Sahara unlimited with no record on carfax that what I am paying over 50 grand for with tax doesn’t just get bad gas and jump half the road when I hit a bump “because it’s a Jeep”. I should have been made aware that I was buying something scrapped, and that the odometer could be from any of them. I would like to receive a report of the form filed months after I purchased the vehicle and my entire jeep changed description and was no longer being monitored for safety. The IPC, BCM, TCM, and ECU aren’t properly communicating, and panels are all shifting.

After purchasing seems the vin was updated with information I was not disclosed. The bcm has never worked correctly the instrument panel is erratic and even with a code reader showing P codes there’s no check light. The steering makes the entire vehicle jump over half a road. Blind spot monitors don’t know what to do sometimes they are unavailable, odometer has all 9s sometimes. I did all the checks on the vehicle at the time and what I was given showed I had a 2018 4 door Sahara and that was what I was led to believe. After having issues and getting my registration I started looking at everything more because the dealer registered me as a commercial passenger truck(still don’t know why) but found a report that says Moab/sahara and my seems my vehicles body chasis and motor are all over the place. I’m pretty sure the engine is failing as at one point in one of the reports I found it stated it failed emissions. But the overall worst is that the suspension looks like it came off the titanic compared to the body panels, there’s a lot of welding and rusted or “appearingly tampered” pieces in the chassis and the vehicle seems to be coming apart at every seam. I am currently not driving it because it looks to have sank down to where it could be dangerous I’m pretty sure the suspension, frame, and axles aren’t rated for what’s on it and sounded like something may be coming off at the wheel or axle area last time I did drive it. The vehicle I thought I was purchasing had safety guidelines and there is 2.0 parts, 3.6 parts on this along with random other countries parts. It was bought used “As-Is” but not under the pretense that they assembled it by hand from leftovers. It wouldn’t pass safety standards or emissions in a foreign country much less in the UNITED STATES. I am starting here but will be seeking legal counsel. No longer certain I even have a jeep frame or chassis or just some panels stuck to a rusting timebomb. I’ve only drove like 8,000 miles. Now I’m scared to

I have a 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL series. I was driving down the highway, and the soft top latches sheared off, causing the top to rip back off the top of the Jeep. These clips fell down inside the car and sharp plastic pieces hit my sunglasses. The place where they sheared off was not at any boat locations or latching sections. This year was at the curve where it boats on to the soft top roof frame. The flat section where the sheer occurred was about 2 1/2 inches to 3 inches by only a quarter inch thick. This thickness was not substantial enough to hold the roof locked down tight. This could have created an accident as I was going down the highway at 60 miles an hour almost losing control of the vehicle. I have visited the dealer and called Jeep. Customer care they offer no support. I feel like this is a substantial safety issue that could cause someone to lose control of the vehicle and endanger themselves and others.

The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH and lowering the sun visor due to the sun glaring into his face, the contact stated that the sun visor detached from a retaining pin on the sun visor arm and hit the contact in the face. The contact stated that he was so startled from the strike of the sun visor that he swerved to the left and almost into oncoming traffic. The contact stated that he was able to place the sun visor into the closed position, but that whenever the sun visor was unhooked, it was hanging straight down and was blocking a portion of the windshield, reducing his visibility while driving. Additionally, the contact stated that the side view mirror toggle switch was no longer functioning, and the contact was not able to adjust the position of the driver's and passenger’s side view mirrors. The contact was able to see traffic on both sides of the vehicle safely using the side view mirrors. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 96,800.

My soft top has never been unzipped, and the back plastic windshield has started to come apart. This causes water to get into my car when it rains. So much water got into my car from the exposed opening in the back window, my car jack actually rusted and cannot be used, so now I have no jack for my car. This opening also causes bugs to get in and lay eyes or make nests, putting me at potential risk to get stung. The water has also caused a build up of dirt on the back windshield, causing extreme difficulty to see out of the back windshield.

My door and hood hinges are severely corroded; this is a known issue that has resulted in a TSB. However, dealers are unwilling/unable to complete the repair work due to the high volume warranty claims they receive related to this issue. My door hinges have corroded to the point that they’ve undoubtedly lost structural integrity.

The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while he was sitting at a stop light, the service shifter warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the service shifter was inoperable, and the vehicle would not move. The contact stated he turned the vehicle off and back on but the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed as a failed service shifter and the service shifter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that in addition, the vehicle had a corrosion failure. The contact stated that the engine fan continuously came on, and it prompted the contact to check the antifreeze level. The contact stated when he removed the antifreeze container's top he noticed a rust bubble on the opening of the container. The contact stated he inspected the vehicle and noticed corrosion on all the door hinges, the bottom of the door frames and the tailgate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was advised that the repair would not be covered under warranty. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000.

There is a missing weld on the lower passenger rear control arm bracket that looks like a manufacture defect. I recently started hearing a clanging noise and brought it to the mechanic. I was not put at risk of safety (for the tie being). The problem has been confirmed and looked at ONLY by a mechanic. There were no warning lights. How do i get the welding fixed? the dealer will not help me repair it.

Driver side sun visor has a failed connection to the vehicle frame, resulting in the visor falling down in front of the driver's field of view. This happened spontaneously and nearly resulted in a crash. This is an issue many owners of Jeep Wrangler JLs have experienced. The design of this connection has not changed. I purchased my 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Sport S 4 door in May of 2021. During the summer, while riding down the road, I had my soft top convertible top back. Upon closing the top when reaching home, the cover had become detached from tent assembly. I am just wondering if this was a apart of the safety recall for 2018 Jeep Wranglers, and if it was, how can I tell if this problem that was addressed with the vehicle I own now and fixed. I have had to buy a replacement top which is being installed on 9-19-2022. The cost is $1764.22, which I will not have an invoice for until they have completed the install.

Rust is forming along the bottom of all of the doors (4 of them) and on or around some of the hinges. The rust seems to be forming inside of the door and what is visible from the outside looks like the paint in bulging slightly.

Frame Welds failed, causing the lower control arm to completely detach from vehicle while driving on highway. Yes, it is available for inspection upon request. Yes, my safety was put at risk. Dealer refused to acknowledge problem, did not wish to see photos or video. The repair was completed elsewhere. December 29th - While driving on the highway I hear a loud bang and pull over. Turns out my front lower control arm mount COMPLETELY BREAKS OFF my frame (See attached photos). I call my dealership (Zappone CDJR in Clifton Park NY), they can’t get me in for a few weeks due to their availability. I get a major favor and get an extremely reputable, nationally known, off-road manufacture to fix it for me. While I am there, they tell me - take it in to the dealership, a lot of your welds need to be looked at. Apparently someone attempted to touch up some of the welds by hand, but didn’t do a great job. I purchased this JLUR brand new, actually ordered it from factory so no outside work was done on it. Feb 21st - Finally get it in to the dealership, explain to them the situation and without even looking at it, I already get hit with the “well hopefully your lift didn’t cause it” by the service advisor (Jeff Coon). I even reference the TSB out about welds and get told “well TSBs aren’t covered under warranty its an out of pocket expense”. So I call the support center and get told the same thing frame is not covered under my extended warranty, and my standard warranty is out. Ultimately I get told “inspected frame from star cases and damage to frame is not a known issue and is caused by off reading abuse and aftermarket lift kit and would put pressure on welds. Technician found would not be considered factory warranty due to aftermarket lift kit installed.

Within a week with no wear or tear -14000 miles; ALL hinges on all doors as well as the door panels are corroding from the inside out. Huge safety issue- All Wrangler forums are reporting this as well. A paint and bondo job are not the answer! The safety prospect would be New doors and hinges - which are a must. My doors have never been removed! AND my jeep is garaged.

I PURCHASED THE JEEP WRANGLER AS THE FIRST OWNER IN 2018. I IMMEDIATELY FELT INCONSISTENCIES WITH THE STEERING. THE STEERING FELT LOOSE. AT THE TIME I EXPRESSED MY CONCERN TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT I PURCHASED THE JEEP FROM, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY JEEP FOR THE 'DEATH WOBBLE' AND THAT IT WAS LIKELY THE RESULT OF THAT. THE RECALL WORK WAS COMPLETED WITHIN THE FIRST 12 MONTHS OF PURCHASE. THE RECALL REPAIR DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THE STEERING CONTINUED TO FEEL LOOSE AND AS TIME WENT ON BECAME MORE EVIDENT. WHEN DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY ONTO AN EXIT AT 40-50MPH I FOLLOWED THE SLIGHT CURVE AND THE STEERING FELT UNSTABLE AND WANDERED. THE BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE WHAT OCCURRED WOULD BE THAT IT FELT LIKE THE FRAME WAS FALLING OFF THE WHEELS. THIS CONTINUED MORE FREQUENTLY AND LAST WEEK BECAME UNMANAGEABLE. WHILE DRIVING 70MPH DOWN THE EXPRESSWAY, I WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. IT FELT LIKE I WAS DRIVING A BOAT ON WATER. I FELT CONFIDENT THAT THE FRAME OF THE JEEP WAS LEAVING THE WHEELS. AT THIS TIME I NOTICED THAT THE GEARS WERE SLIPPING AS WELL. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE MY TRANSMISSION EXAMINED. THE EARLIEST AVAILABLE APPOINTMENT IS 6 DAYS OUT, SO I DECIDED TO SNEAK UNDER THE JEEP TO SEE IF THERE WAS A TRANSMISSION LEAK. WHAT I OBSERVED WAS SHOCKING TO FIND ON A 2018 VEHICLE AND CONSIDERABLY OVERWHELMING. MY DEGREE IS CRIMINAL SCIENCE, SO FAR FROM HAVING ANY AUTOMATIVE/ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE, BUT CONTEXTUAL CLUES ARE EVIDENTIARY CLEAR TO ME. THE FEELING OF THE FRAME BEING DISPLACED FROM THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE IS A PROBABLE RESULT. I HAVE A DEEP CONCERN WITH THE CURRENT CONDITION OF THE WELDING OF THE FRAME AND THE CONDITION OF THE UNDERBODY.

WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WITH MY WIFE AND FIVE YR OLD SON WHEN WE HEARD A LOUD POP UNDERNEATH OUR 2018 JEEP WRANGLER AND INSTANTLY SAW A TRAIL OF SMOKE BEHIND US. WE IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO FIND TRANSMISSION GUILD GUSHING FROM UNDERNEATH WITH TONS OF SMOKE AS WELL. WE WERE HOPING THE SMOKE WAS PROBABLY JUST FROM FLUID ON THE MANIFOLD BUT WE SMALL FLASHES OF FIRE STARTING AT THE TRANSMISSION AND CLUTCH AREA. I QUICKLY GRABBED MY SON SITTING IN BACK AND WE JUMPED OVER THE CONCRETE BARRIER ON THE SIDE AND RAN AWAY FROM THE JEEP AS IT QUICKLY BECAME ENGULFED. IT STILL HAD THE TEMP TAGS HAVING ONLY HAD IT THREE WEEKS. IT WAS A 2018 WITH 15K MILES.

MY 2018 JEEP WRANGLER WAS PURCHASED IN JULY 2019 AND THE FIRST WEEK OF OWNING I NOTICED THAT THE BOTTOM OF THE JEEP'S FRAME APPEARED TO BE RUSTY. FIRST OWNER, HAD NOT BEEN THROUGH A MICHIGAN WINTER... YET. RECENTLY THE JEEP STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH LEAKING COOLANT AND ONCE I GOT UNDER THE VEHICLE, I WAS IN COMPLETE SHOCK WITH THE APPEARANCE OF THE FRAME. IT STILL IS RUSTY BUT THE ENTIRE FRAME LOOKED LIKE A 6TH GRADE ASPIRING ENGINEER DESIGNED THE VEHICLE AND USED PARTS FROM GRANDPAS GARAGE TO CONSTRUCT THE FRAME. THERE HAS GOT TO BE A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH THE FRAME OF 2018 JEEP WRANGLERS.

CONSISTENTLY WHILE STEERING A HIGHWAY CURVE AT 40-55 MPH MY JEEP STEERING DISENGAGES AND RESULTS IN AN UNSAFE INABILITY TO MAINTAIN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE STEERING CAN BE DESCRIBED AS LOOSE AND COMMONLY DESCRIBED BY PASSENGERS AS THE UNSETTLING FEELING THAT THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE IS COMING OFF THE WHEELS. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE NOT BEEN INJURED YET BUT IF THIS CONTINUES I DON'T THINK IT WILL REMAIN THAT WAY.

THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NO ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE WARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 41,000.

MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO CORRECT (REPLACED ALL SEALS) AND THERE IS STILL A LEAK FROM FRONT CENTER (WHERE HARDTOP MEETS WINDSHIELD PILLAR). SUSPENSION: LOUD 'CLUNK' OR 'THUMP' COMING FROM REAR WHEN ACCELERATING FROM BOTH A DEAD STOP AND WHILE MOVING AT LESS THAN (5) MPH AND ACCELERATING.

WELD QUALITY ON FRAME ARE VERY QUESTIONABLE. WHEN MY JEEP TWISTS WHILE OFF-ROADING, IT SOUNDS LIKE IT WANTS TO TEAR ITSELF APART AND THE DOORS DONT WANT TO SHUT CLOSE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS FULLY FLEXED. THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN TO THE NEWER 2019+ MODELS WITH OBVIOUS BETTER WELDS ON FRAME. IT GETS ANNOYING WITH ALL THE CRUNCHING NOISE THE BODY MAKES WHEN I DRIVE ON UNEVEN ROADS. AGAIN, NOT SEEN ON NEWER MODELS. ALSO, THE STEERING STABILIZER WAS REPLACED AND STILL MY STEERING WHEEL START SHAKING WHEN I DRIVE ON UNEVEN ROADS. I HAVE TAKEN MY JEEP TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES COMPLAINING ABOUT THE RADIO AND IT KEEPS SHUTTING OFF AND VOLUME FREEZING.

HOWEVER, IN ADDITION TO POOR WELD QUALITY, I NOTICED SEVERAL WELDS THAT WERE POORLY PAINTED/TREATED AND RAW METAL AND RUST ARE VISIBLE TO THE NAKED EYE. HAVING CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIPS IN THE AREA NO ONE WILL RETURN MY CALLS. I WILL BE PERSONALLY TREATING THE AREAS AND REPAINTING TO AVOID WORSENING CONDITION.

HEAVY AMOUNT OF RUST THROUGHOUT THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE. RUST IS LOCATED ON FRAME WELDS, SUSPENSION CONNECTION BRACKETS, AND AXEL COMPONENTS. PHOTOS WERE TAKEN 10 DAYS AFTER PURCHASING FROM THE DEALERSHIP. I TOOK THE JEEP BACK AND ASKED THEM TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING WAS SAFE. THE DEALERSHIP LOOKED AT ME LIKE I WAS CRAZY AND SAID YEP THAT IS NORMAL TO HAVE RUST. I ASKED IT IS NORMAL TO HAVE THIS MUCH RUST ON A BRAND NEW CAR. THAT IS CRAZY. BACK IN OCTOBER 2019, I RENTED A NEW JEEP WRANGLER FROM ENTERPRISE FOR A TRIP TO CHICAGO FOR WORK. WHILE BOTH TRAVELING TO AND FROM CHICAGO, I HAD TWO INSTANCES WHILE TRAVELING ON ROUTE 80 IN OHIO, WHERE I WENT OVER SMALL BUMPS, AND THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. ON THE RETURN TRIP HOME, I ACTUALLY HAD TO PULL OFF THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND SLOW DOWN TO APPROXIMATELY 25 MILES PER HOUR TO GET THE SHAKING TO STOP. WHEN RETURNING THE VEHICLE TO ENTERPRISE, I INFORMED THEM OF WHAT HAPPENED. THEY THEN STATED THEY GET A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE WRNAGLER AND WOULD TAKE SOME MONEY OFF OF MY BILL. I TOLD THEM THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND, AND THAT THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THAT MY WIFE HAS THE SAME VEHICLE AND IF THIS HAPPENED IN HER CAR, I WOULD NOT ALLOW HER TO DRIVE IT. FAST FORWARD TO THE NIGHT OF 12/6/2019. WHILE TRAVELING TO MY WIFE'S CHRISTMAS PARTY (IN HER 2018 JEEP WRANGLER) ON ROUTE 680 NORTHBOUND AT 60 MPH, I HIT A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE STEERING WHEEL ALONG WITH THE REST OF THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. WE THEN HAD TO SLOW DOWN IN ORDER TO GET THIS SHAKING TO STOP. I LOOKED OVER AT HER AND SAID THAT THIS CAN IN NO WAY BE NORMAL. SHE THEN INFORMED ME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO HER A FEW TIMES AS WELL. THERE IS NO WAY THIS CANNOT BE A SAFETY ISSUE, AND I DEFINITELY DO NOT WANT MY WIFE DRIVING THIS CAR.

MY FIVE WEEK OLD MANUAL JEEP WRANGLER JL WITH APPROXIMATELY 1500 MILES ON IT WAS IN MOTION TRAVELLING WESTBOUND ON A 55 MPH ROAD WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. THE JEEP HAD BEEN IN MOTION FOR APPROXIMATELY 1/4 OF A MILE WHEN IT WAS SHIFTED INTO THIRD GEAR AND PART OF THE TRANSMISSION FELL OFF OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN SHIFTED INTO 4TH GEAR, AGAIN MORE PARTS FELL FROM BENEATH THE JEEP. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE GEAR CHANGE THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH ALL LIT UP AND BLACK SMOKE AND FLAMES WERE SEEN SIMULTANEOUSLY ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE JEEP WAS IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE 911 WAS CALLED. THE FIREFIGHTERS FOUND PIECES OF THE TRANSMISSION HUNDREDS OF YARDS FROM WHERE THE VEHICLE BECAME ENGULFED IN FLAMES.

CURRENTLY WE ARE BEING ESTIMATED AROUND $8,000 - $15,000 IN DAMAGE BUT THAT IS NOT FINAL YET.

FILED COMPLAINT WITH FCA REGARDING POOR FRAME WELDS. I AM A CERTIFIED WELDING INSPECTOR AND REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER, AND THE WELDS WERE ATROCIOUS. MANY WELDS WITH POROSITY, LINEAR POROSITY, AND CLUSTER POROSITY. ALSO WELDS MISALIGNED AND WITH POOR PLACEMENT. AFTER MONTHS OF DELAYS (ORIGINAL COMPLAINT IN FEBRUARY) THEY SENT A WELDING INSPECTOR (STATED FROM THE FRAME MANUFACTURER) TO INSPECT AND WELD ON THE FRAME. DIDN'T GRIND OUT OLD WELDS. JUST WELDED OVER THE TOP OF OLD WELDS. LOOKED EVEN WORSE. POOR WELD PROFILES. WAS TOLD THERE IS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO, AND WAS TOLD I WAS STUCK WITH IT OR I COULD GO TO ARBITRATION. THEN FCA DECIDED TO WOULD OFFER ME A TRADE CERTIFICATE OF $4000. I FELT LIKE THIS WAS TO SHUT ME UP, BUT IT WAS THE ONLY COMPENSATION I WOULD RECEIVE. I TRIED TO GET THEM TO LEMON IT, BUT THEY TOLD ME IT DIDN'T QUALIFY AND JUST GAVE ME THE RUNAROUND. SAW AN ARTICLE ABOUT REPORTING TO THE NHTSA. DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THIS WAS AN OPTION. I WISH SOMEONE COULD MAKE THEM OWN UP TO THE FACT THAT THEY PRODUCED AN IMPROPERLY MANUFACTURED VEHICLE, POTENTIALLY VERY UNSAFE LONG TERM. MARKED OVER 40 SPOTS ON MY FRAME (WHAT I COULD EASILY SEE). THEY WELDED OVER 4 SPOTS. I'M AFRAID IF I DON'T TAKE THEIR TRADE OFFER I WILL GET NOTHING.

RUST BUBBLING UP UNDER PAINT AROUND FOR HINGES. THE RUST IS ONLY EVIDENT ON THE TOP HINGES OF BOTH DOORS (VEHICLE ONLY HAS TWO DOORS). THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO FIX IT AND CALLED IT A PAINT IMPERFECTION. HOWEVER THE RUST SPOT IS INCREASING IN SIZE AND NEW SPOTS ARE DEVELOPING. THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO THE PAINT (I.E. CHIPS, SCRATCHES) THAT WOULD EXPLAIN THE RUST. IT SEEMS TO HAVE COME FROM THE FACTORY/ MANUFACTURER.

HAVING NEVER OWNED A JEEP I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME OR THAT THE TIRES NEEDED TO BE WORN DOWN A BIT. THE PROBLEM REMAINS. WHILE LISTENING TO FM/AM STATIONS THE VOLUME IS WACKY GOING LOW AND HIGH MAKING FOR LOUSY LISTENING. WHEN THE AC COMES ON ON THE HIGHER SETTING MY JEEP SOUNDS LIKE I AM GETTING READY FOR LIFT OFF. VERY LOUD. ONE LEVER ON MY SEAT NEAR THE HEADREST THAT CONTROLS THE ABILITY FOR A PASSENGER TO GET IN MY TWO DOOR ALMOST IMMEDIATELY BECAME DETACHED AND I DON'T EVEN HAVE MY BACK SEAT IN A LOT SO IT DOESN'T GET USED A LOT. I HAVE AN AUTOMATIC AND IT DOES NOT SHIFT SMOOTHLY. TODAY I PULLED OUT OF A PARKING SPOT AND MY JEEP SURGED FORWARD FASTER THAN IT SHOULD HAVE AND IT OFTEN SHIFTS POORLY FROM PARK INTO DRIVE AND REVERSE. THE SENSOR OR HEATER ELECTRIC WIRE ON THE INSIDE OF THE TAILGATE WINDOW DETACHED.

WHEN THE FRONT FREEDOM PANELS ARE REMOVED, THE EDGES OF THE BACK PANEL EXTEND ACROSS THE FRONT OF THE SOUND BAR AND ARE NOT FINISHED WITH ANY TRIM, WHICH LEAVES A SHARP EXPOSED FIBERGLASS EDGE TO DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS INSIDE THE VEHICLE. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THE FRONT FREEDOM PANELS REMOVED IN THE MANNER INSTRUCTED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND BY MOPAR VIA THEIR YOUTUBE TUTORIALS. WHEN HE EXTENDED HIS HAND UPWARD TO REACH FOR HIS HAT, THE EXPOSED EDGE OF THE BACK PANEL OF THE FREEDOM TOP CUT HIS HAND DEEPLY ENOUGH TO SEVER A NERVE AND AN ARTERY, REQUIRING EMERGENCY CARE AND SURGERY. THIS OCCURRED WITHIN 24 HOURS OF PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. WHILE FCA (JEEP) HAS ISSUED A RECALL ADDRESSING POOR WELDS AT THE TRACK BAR MOUNTING BRACKET LOCATION ON A LIMITED NUMBER OF 2018-2019 JEEP WRANGLER'S (MINE WAS NOT INVOLVED, EVEN THOUGH THE WELDS ARE INSUFFICIENT), THEY NEED TO FURTHER ADDRESS THE ALL OF THE WELDING DEFICIENCIES LOCATED THROUGHOUT THIS VEHICLES FRAME. BRAND NEW 2018 JEEP WRANGLER JLU, ONLY 400 MILE, DUE TO THE RECENT RECALL ON THE TRACK BARD WELD ISSUE, I WENT OVER THE VEHICLE AND INSPECTED THE WELDS ON OTHER AREAS OF MY VEHICLE AND NOTICE THAT THE WELDING ON THE REAR LOWER CONTROL ARM BRACKET WAS NOT PROPERLY WELDED. THE WELD WAS MOSTLY ON THE FRAME RATHER THAN ON THE SEAM BETWEEN THE FRAME AND THE CONTROL ARM BRACKET, BY COMPARING THE DRIVER SIDE REAR LOWER CONTROL ARM BRACKET, IT WAS CLEARLY APPARENT THAT THERE WAS A WELDING ERROR. ADDITIONALLY, (REFER TO ATTACHED PDF DOCUMENT) THE ROBOTIC WELDER NOT ONLY MISSED THE SEAM BUT STOPPED WELDING AFTER ABOUT 1.5" (UP TO THE WHITE LINE MARKED BY QC) THE A PERSON WELDED FROM RIGHT TO LEFT (UP TO THE WHITE LINE WHERE THE ROBOT STOPPED) BUT ALSO MISSED THE SEAM AND WELDED MOSTLY ON THE FRAME. CHRYSLER HAD TO HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THE ISSUE BECAUSE A PERSON DID WELD WHERE THE ROBOT STOPPED. HOWEVER, THE IMPROPER WELDING WAS PERFORMED AND THIS ISSUE CAN POTENTIALLY CAUSE A FATAL ACCIDENT BEING THAT THIS VEHICLE IS A OFF-ROAD CAPABLE VEHICLE AND UNLIKE REGULAR VEHICLE, THIS VEHICLE WILL MORE LIKELY BE USED IN EXTREME CONDITIONS FURTHER PLACING STRESS ON THE IMPROPERLLY WELDED COMPONENTS.

RECENTLY FCA STARTED A RECALL CAMPAIGN (UA5) TO INSPECT AND REPAIR THE FRONT TRACK BAR BRACKET WELDS BUT AT THE MOMENT IT IS INCOMPLETE WITH NO SOLUTION. THIS IS PRETTY ALARMING TO ME SINCE THIS CAN CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO LOOSE STEERING RESPONSE. NOW I AM AFRAID TO TAKE LONG RIDES ON THE VEHICLE AND I AM SCARE TO LET MY WIFE DRIVE THE VEHICLE. I TALK TO FCA AND THEY SAID IT IS STILL SAFE TO DRIVE, BUT AFTER READING SOME OF THE EXPERIENCE OF WRANGLER OWNERS THAT HAD THEIR TRACK BAR WELDS BROKEN I DON'T THINK IS SAFE. ON 9-26-18 I PURCHASED A NEW 2018 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON. A FRIEND OF MINE TOLD ME TO DO A DATA SEARCH FOR AN UPCOMING RECALL CONCERNING THE FRONT TRACK BAR BRACKET. I SEE THAT 18V-675 DATED 9-28-18 WAS ISSUED. FCA RECALL #UA5. MINE IS ONE OF THE RECALLED JEEPS. HOWEVER, I PROCEEDED TO INSPECT THE TRACK BAR WELDING AND IDENTIFY WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND CHECK FOR SEPARATED WELDS NO WELDS, ETC. WHILE UNDER THE JEEP I DISCOVERED OTHER ISSUES THAT WILL CAUSE FUTURE SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. SUCH AS FRAME FAILURE OR OTHER COMPONENTS ATTACHED TO THE FRAME FAILING DUE TO POOR WELDING TECHNIQUES AS WELL AS PREMATURE CORROSION. THESE POTENTIAL FAILURES MAY RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT INJURIES TO THE OCCUPANT(S) OF THE VEHICLE. ON THE FRAME, MANY WELDS APPEAR TO BE INFERIOR, SUCH AS PERFORATED WELDS, MISSING WELDS, WELDS THAT ARE NOT COMPLETE LEAVING GAPS BETWEEN THE EDGES OF THE FRAME. ADDITIONALLY, IN MANY AREAS OF THE FRAME, THE PAINT HAS FLAKED OFF OF THE WELDS AND IS NOW STARTING TO RUST. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR 3 WEEKS WITH 500 MILES ON IT. IT HAS BEEN STREET DRIVEN ONLY. WITH THE CURRENT RECALL FOR THE TRACK BAR, THE DEALER ADVISED NOT TO TAKE IT OFF ROAD. ON 10-17-18 I EMAILED PICTURES TO THE DEALER AS WELL AS PAID THEM A VISIT. I HAVE SUPPLIED THE DEALER WITH PICTURES AND HAVE AN APPOINTMENT ON 11-6-18 FOR THEM TO LOOK AT IT. I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED THAT THE DEALER MAY ATTEMPT TO WELD THESE AREAS. AND THAT IF ATTEMPTED, WOULD ONLY BLISTER OFF ANY PAINT ON THE INSIDE OF THE FRAME THAT COULD NOT BE SEEN OR PRIMED AND REPAINTED PROPERLY. AS THIS IS A BOX FRAME AND I BELIEVE IT HAS TO BE DIPPED TO BE PRIMED AND PAINTED ON THE INNER SIDE OF THE FRAME. ANY OTHER METHOD THAT MAY BE UTILIZED WOULD NOT BE THE SAME NOR WOULD IT OFFER THE SAME AMOUNT OF CORROSION PROTECTION AS WHAT THE FACTORY METHODOLOGY UTILIZES.

TRACK BAR BRACKET AND OTHER WELDS ARE VERY POORLY DONE, WHICH CAN LEAD TO SERIOUS MALFUNCTION OR INJURY. WELDS HAVE POOR POROSITY WITH PINHOLES, SLAG INCLUSIONS, LACK OF FUSION, UNDERFILL, ETC. THE WELDS ON MY NEW 2018 JEEP RUBICON JLU THAT COST $52,000 ARE ALL MALFORMED. I DON'T SEE HOW THERE COULD HAVE BEEN AN INSPECTION PASS ON THESE WELDS, AS THEY ARE DANGEROUS. I'VE HAD THEM INSPECTED BY TWO PROFESSIONAL WELDERS WITH A COMBINED 45 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE AND THEY BOTH IMMEDIATELY AGREED. ONE USER ON THE JL WRANGLER FORUMS WITH VERY SIMILAR WELDS HAD A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE TRACK BAR BRACKET AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED (HIGHWAY POSTED SPEEDS) AND WAS SOMEHOW ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT KILLING HIMSELF OR ANYONE ELSE. THIS POST CAN BE FOUND ON JL WRANGLER FORUMS DOT COM, SEARCH FOR "TRACK BAR SHEARED OFF AT THE WELD" THE TRACK BAR BRACKET WELD ON MY JEEP DOESN'T COVER THE TOP OF THE BRACKET BUT INSTEAD THE WELD SITS ALMOST ON TOP OF THE BRACKET EDGE AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE ADDED PICTURES. THE SIDE WELDS ARE SIMPLY WELD BLOBS AND DO NOT FOLLOW ANY WELD STANDARDS. THIS IS SIMPLY DANGEROUS AND SHOWS THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED WHEN LEAVING THIS STAGE OF THE BUILD FROM FCA. WHILE DRIVING IN HIGH WINDS, HOOD FLUTTERS.....RISES UP ABOUT 1/2-1 INCH DUE TO STRETCHING OF HOOD CLAMPS. WHILE IT HASN'T BROKE, I HAVE READ OF IT BREAKING ON JEEP FORUMS. I WOULD THINK OVER TIME WITH SOLAR EXPOSURE, TEMPERATURE CHANGES AND REPEATED STRESS, THE POSSIBILITY OF FAILURE WOULD BE GREAT. I WAS IN NEW MEXICO IN HIGH WIND CONDITIONS AND TWO LANE HIGHWAYS WITH TRUCKS COMING BY AT HIGH SPEEDS SO ADMITTEDLY THE WORST CONDITIONS, BUT IT DOES NOT SEEM LIKE A SAFE SYSTEM. THE SINGLE METAL CENTRAL LATCH DOES NOT SEEM LIKELY TO HOLD IF THE SIDE PLASTIC/RUBBER CLAMPS FAIL. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THIS COULD BE CATASTROPHIC. REGARDLESS, IT IS DISTRACTING TO THE DRIVER.

FRAME HAS WELDS THAT ARE SUBSTANDARD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. ESPECIALLY AROUND THE CONTROL ARM BRACKET. LARGE AREAS OF POROSITY, AND SLAG ALL OVER THE FRAME. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP, AND SERVICE ADVISOR IMMEDIATELY IDENTIFIED WHICH WELDS WERE NOT UP TO SPECS. AFTER 4 DAYS, DEALERSHIP TURNED BACK VEHICLE, SITING I WOULD NEED TO GO TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP SINCE THEY DO NOT HAVE PROPER FACILITIES TO REPAIR FRAME WELDS. WENT TO DEALERSHIP #2 WHICH WAS REFERRED BY DEALERSHIP #1. AFTER 4 DAYS, I RECEIVED A CALL THAT ENGINEERS HAD MECHANIC LOOK AT OTHER WELDS, AND SAID IF THEY ARE THE SAME, THEY ARE GOOD WELDS. HOW CAN A MECHANIC WHO IS UNTRAINED IN WELDING IDENTIFY OVER THE PHONE WHAT A SUBSTANDARD WELD IS OR IS NOT ? I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE INSPECTED BY 2 PROFESSIONAL WELDERS, AND BOTH HAVE IDENTIFIED WELDS THAT ARE NOT UP TO SPECIFICATIONS, AND NEED ATTENTION. OTHER VEHICLES OF THIS SAME MAKE MODEL AND YEAR HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH CONTROL ARM BRACKETS FAILING DUE TO INSUFFICIENT WELDS IN THE SAME LOCATION, WHY IS FCA NOT DOING ANYTHING, AND WHY HAS THE NHTSA NOT FORCED A RECALL ? THIS IS HIGHLY UNSAFE, AND NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION.

ON 2/9/18, FLEW FROM BOSTON TO PICK UP PURCHASE OF NEW 2018 ALL-PURPLE, 2-DOOR 40K JEEP AT CANANDAIGUA NY JEEP DEALERSHIP. (NONE AVAILABLE IN MASS.) UPON DELIVERY ON LOT, DRIVER DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE COMPLETELY. SALESMAN ROBERTS STATED TO US THAT ALL JEEPS ARE QUIRKY; DOORS MUST BE SLAMMED TO CLOSE. DURING 400-MILE HIGHWAY DRIVE HOME, DOOR AJAR LIGHT CAME ON AND HAD TO RE-CLOSE DOOR REPEATEDLY DURING DRIVE. REPORTED PROBLEM TO (ABSENTEE) OWNERS HARRY/SCOTT KESEL, CHRYSLER CORPORATE STEVE STANDER, AND 1-800-JEEP REP D. PITTMAN; ALSO BROUGHT CAR TO KELLY JEEP SERVICE (LYNNFIELD, MA). ALL JEEP REPS TOLD ME THAT JEEP CABINS ARE AIRTIGHT WHEN CLOSED, CAUSING DOOR PROBLEM. THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN IF YOU SKIP THE DRIVER SIDE AND ENTER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. JEEP REPS TOLD ME TO LIVE WITH PROBLEM - NO REPAIR NECESSARY, AND INSTRUCTED ME TO: ENTER CAR DRIVER'S SIDE, TURN ON IGNITION; POWER DOWN WINDOW; RE-OPEN DOOR; SLAM AGAIN. DUE TO IMPENDING DANGER, THIS CAR HASN'T BEEN DRIVEN SINCE PURCHASE AND IS AT SERVICE DEPT. FOR 35 DAYS, MILEAGE: 400. I DO NOT WANT MY DAUGHTERS DRIVING THIS JEEP FOR OBVIOUS SAFETY REASONS AND TO PREVENT THEM FROM BEING TARGETED IN A DARK PARKING LOT BECAUSE OF THIS NOTICEABLE DIVERSION TO ATTEMPT TO CLOSE THE DOOR. NO FACTORY OR ZONE AREA MANAGER HAS INSPECTED, NOR HAS CANANDAIGUA DEALER OWNER, WHO PRACTICED OTHER FALSE AND DECEPTIVE SALES TACTICS ON ME. DEALERSHIP OWNER SCOTT KESEL WILL NOT TAKE BACK THE CAR OR COMPENSATE LOSS OF $6,000 FOR A TRADE-IN. HE BLAMES JEEP FACTORY; JEEP BLAMES DEALERSHIP. BOTH CLAIM THAT THE OTHER PARTY IS RESPONSIBLE. CHRYSLER CORPORATE REP SAID CORPORATE DOESN'T SPEAK TO OR INFLUENCE DEALER OWNER'S RESPONSE TO CUSTOMERS -- HANDS OFF. DEALER SAID HE'LL DO WHAT EVER CHRYSLER DIRECTS HIM TO DO. I AM PAYING FOR A CAR THAT I DON'T HAVE AND CAN'T USE.
