When going over a bump the jeep goes into a "death wobble". This was fixed approximately 3 years ago. It now has started again.

The power steering system experienced a sudden failure while the vehicle was in motion. Steering assist was lost without warning, causing a significant and immediate increase in steering effort. This created a serious safety hazard and I nearly lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle is a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with approximately 31,000 miles. There were no warning lights, messages, or symptoms prior to the failure. The loss of power steering occurred unexpectedly while driving. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Jeep dealership, where the issue was confirmed. The dealer stated the failure was related to two communication bus lines associated with the power steering system. The dealer is refusing warranty coverage and has quoted approximately $1,000 for repair. The failure directly impacted my ability to safely control the vehicle and posed a risk of crash, injury, or death to myself and others on the road. The vehicle is currently available for inspection upon request. The issue has been confirmed by the dealer, and no inspection by the manufacturer or other third parties has occurred at this time.

Steering Death Wobble, usually on bumpy type of roads. Has improved some after front end alignment. No safety risks so far but very scary. Dealer has not been able to reproduce it, only happens so often. No, only a mechanic shop has looked at the vehicle. No warning lights or messages came on before.

In the last month my wife and I have 4 experiences with an extreme vibration and wobble in the front end of my jeep while driving on the highway. The vibration is violent and the last time it seemed as if the wheels were going to come off my 2021 Jeep Wrangler. Once I slow down the to a lower speed, 45 mph for example, the wobble stops but it seems to be a problem with many Wranglers based upon my research. I am going to schedule an appointment with a dealer to have this investigated but I have less than 35,000 miles on my jeep and it seems to be a manufacturer issue. There are no warning lights that indicate I may have any kind of problem.

The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving at approximately 75 MPH, the vehicle shuddered. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the steering damper needed to be replaced. Upon researching online, the contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised that the vehicle was not under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.

For a few weeks prior to 12-21-2025, I've experienced minor Jeep "death wobble" (suspension issue) at highway speeds when encountering an irregularity (bump) in the road surface. On 12-21-2025, I experienced moderate Jeep "death wobble" at around 60 mph (several times). On a desert 2 lane highway, I was seriously in danger of running off the road to the right (crashing into rock faces bigger than the car) or running into oncoming traffic to the left. I was about an hour away from home and was able to reproduce the problem. I found that the issue was minimized if I kept it under 58 mph. Unfortunately, this motivated many drivers to dangerously pass me. The next day, I took it to the local off-road mechanic and they determined it was a worn tie-rod and recommended replacing the tie rod and installing/upgrading the steering stabilizer. From what I have read during my research is that those are band aid approaches to a more serious engineering/design issue with the Jeep Wrangler. I've further learned that Fiat-Chrysler (or the current owner) has continued to address the issue that has been problematic for decades. There are no recalls for my vehicle and the relevant TSBs I could find apply to older models (latest I saw was 2020 JL). However, it's clear the issue has not been resolved on my more current model (2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon JL). The vehicle is available for your inspection.

“Violent steering oscillation / loss of steering control at highway speeds” Speed when it occurs (usually 45–70 mph) Trigger (bumps, bridge joints, potholes) It requires slowing significantly to regain control. “This is consistent with Jeep’s known steering damper failure causing death wobble. I requested evaluation under Jeep’s known corrective actions.”

The jeep goes into a death wobble when it encounters small bumps at speeds above 55mph. It begins shaking violently and forces you to brake quickly. This make it very dangerous to drive on highways or interstates.

Dec 6, 2025

My 2021 Jeep Wrangler has the well known "Death Wobble". Jeep isn't taking this very serious safety concern seriously. When speed increases to 70 mph the jeep shakes uncontrollably and you must slow down almost to a stop to regulate again. This should be a recall! Huge safety issue. If you google jeep death wobble you could read for days how many jeep owners are experiencing this issue. There apparently is a recall for older jeeps, but unfortunately jeep did not fix the issue and the 2021 jeeps are also affected. It's time to put a recall on the 2021 jeep wranglers and fix the death wobble.

Driving on the highway at 60 - 65 mph, and almost lost control of the steering. The steering wheel was violently shaking/vibrating, and I had to pull over. It's called the "death wobble" online. I had to get off the highway and drive below 60mph to manage the steering. I went to the dealership, and they "found that excessive movement in both ball joints of the drag link assembly was caused by air being trapped inside the steering damper." Both were replaced. The vehicle had only 47,800 miles and had never been driven off-road.

The 1st time it happened I was getting on highway and went over a Crack in road and my jeep started vibrating violently. Totally scared me but once I slowed down it stopped so I figured it was a fluke thing. My hubby drove it to Seattle and going 70 he went over grooved pavement and the shaking happened again. Third times a charm at 65 and didn't go over anything and it scared the crap out of me so bad I slowed down to 30 in a 60 in order for it to stop. Immediately contacted dealership and was told it would be hundreds of dollars and it isn't covered under warranty. I bought this Jeep brand new, only has 41,000miles and dont beat her up on off road because she is my daily driver. This violently shaking is scary and this could really do a new driver some harm and needs to be addressed and fixed in ALL Jeep vehicles.

While driving at highway speed on November 11, 2025, my 2021 Jeep Wrangler experienced a sudden and complete electrical failure without warning. A “Battery Saver Mode” message appeared, and within seconds multiple safety systems began shutting down. First Failure: While driving on the highway and exiting, the vehicle abruptly lost power steering, ABS, stability control, airbag system, exterior lighting, dashboard displays, and engine power. Multiple warning lamps illuminated at once. Steering and braking became extremely difficult, creating an immediate safety risk. I was able to coast to a stop and park. The vehicle then appeared stable and the messages cleared. Second Failure: After restarting the vehicle, the warning reappeared. While driving on a major high-traffic roadway, the vehicle experienced a total electrical shutdown in active traffic and would not restart. Third Failure: A towing service attempted to jump-start the vehicle; it briefly powered on, illuminated nearly every warning light, then immediately shut down again with the radiator fan running at full speed. The electrical system continued to collapse and the vehicle required a full tow. Inspection and Diagnosis: The dealership confirmed a complete alternator and charging system failure at approximately 36,419 miles. This failure occurred at only 4 years of age, which is unusually early for an alternator or charging system failure. The vehicle’s original battery also failed unusually early (at only 2.5 years old) without warning, which may have been an early indication of a charging system issue. The vehicle is lightly used, garage-kept, never off-roaded, and regularly maintained. The sudden loss of steering assist, braking assist, airbags, lighting, and engine power at speed and in high-traffic areas created an extreme safety risk for myself and others. This appears to be a premature electrical system failure and may relate to broader charging system concerns reported in similar vehicles.

The jeep upon hitting a bump on the right tire on freeway at speeds, right tire goes into a, "death wobble," and violently shakes steering wheel and vehicle like it is coming apart. . Around 60-70 mph. Usually on a left corner and right tire hits a bump. Steering wheel violently shakes. Jeep right wheel violently shakes. Has happened several times till the vehicle gets pulled over to a slow or stop. Once slowed to a crawl or stopped. It stops it. Very dangerous to drive.

While driving the 'service shifter' warning will flash and once this happens the steering locks up and the car shuts down. This primarily happens when hitting a bump, pot hole, railroad tracks, etc. After the warning flashes and the steering locks up, every light on the dash comes on as the car is shutting down. The vehicle is in the shop for the 3rd time within 9 months for the same issue. The dealership replaced the star link connector saying that was the issue but it is still occurring. The vehicle is currently in the shop with this issue and they are saying there is nothing wrong and 'no codes being thrown.' We have had this happen at least a dozen times on us while driving. A handful without hitting a bump or one of the specified causes. Once this happens, the car become immobile and has to be towed. The first time this occurred was within 10 days of purchasing the vehicle; it started happening in January and is still occurring. After the dealership 'fixes' it, the issue will not occur for a couple of months then it will happen again.

I was driving 72 miles per hour on 4 lane highway and the steering wheel and front end of the jeep was vibrating uncontrollably. The cruse control stopped working, i applied the brake and was able to slow down and pull over to the side of the road. No flat tires so I pulled back on to the highway and arrived at my destination without further incident. 10-24-25 The same thing happened last week but i thought maybe the lane assist went off because there were no road lines (newly repaved road) but my Jeep doesn't have lane assist. After researching on line I believe what occurred is what they call "Death wobble" there were no bumps in the road - the road is in good condition so I'm not certain what prompted the death wobble.

While driving on a couple occasions the traction control light kicked in and wouldn’t allow me to turn I had to come to almost a complete stop, I thought it had gone away and a few days later I had a death wobble that occurred on a very busy hwy and had to pull into the middle lane to prevent an accident. I could not let go completely of the wheel but I also couldn’t really control the vehicle I had to stop it. I was not turning when this one happened I was going straight I had already turned and drove straight for a few minutes before it happened. I was able to drive a quarter of a mile to the auto repair shop where it is sitting. He told me himself it is very dangerous to drive it when that occurs.

Unpredictable complete loss of power steering that will continue until the brakes are applied and speed is reduced to approximately 30 mph and voltage level spikes, as high as 16.3 volts as shown on the instrument panel. It is not temperature related. When disabled it requires two hands and extreme strength to turn, especially when taking an off ramp. Voltage level is typically ranging between 12.7 - 13.7 volts during normal conditions as well as when in no power steering conditions. The first trip 3-4 months ago to the dealership and the only finding was a corroded ground loop which did not solve the issue. After no success begging for a loaner car we left the Jeep 19JUN25 while on vacation for second trip this week. I requested them to contact Stellantis STAR Center and this is the report: 24JUN25 Good morning - our STAR case engineer pointed us in the direction of a similar STAR publication that we had followed the last visit. I did not find any faults within the charging system or any voltage regulators at this point. There were 5 labeled grounds in this publication that were common for building up corrosion. The ground that is on the frame near the driver rear close to the 48v battery had a large amount of corrosion. He cleaned up each ground and applied dielectric grease yesterday, so now I am having him take on a few test drives to see if the issue persists. I have a video of the spike leading to steering reengagement but unable to upload it.

June 5, 2025 stopped at red light turned green tried to turn left and the jeep flashed the electric red bolt symbol and check engine light came on lost all power would not go when gas pedal was pushed. a/c lost power started blowing hot air and engine turned off. Restarted engine finally got it to go enough to pull out of traffic. Turned off engine opened hood checked battery cables, fuses and all was intact. Started engine drove slowly to the Autozone store to have the diagnostic test done and it showed P2101 power train system throttle actuator A control motor circuit range /performance detected unexpected voltage on the throttle actuator control motor circuit also C121C-00 ABS torque request signal denied Anti-lock Brake System U0401-00 implausible data received from ECM/PCM “A”. System was reset to be able to drive home. 6/16/25 went to start jeep to go to work made a clicking noise check engine light on and the voltage warning sensor flashing and showed Service Electronic Stability Control error would not stay running checked battery cables fuses and restarted engine tried to back out of driveway engine would not go. Had jeep towed to Moore CDJR dealership where it was purchased from 9/2023 to have serviced found throttle body needs replaced dealership contacted several parts dealers, Mopar, and other dealerships etc. to locate the part needed was advised couldn’t find the parts needed for the repair. Contacted service department and they advised they were calling National Auto Care my extended warranty for approval for repair. My concern is if I had been driving 65 mph and it went out I would have been in a accident when the vehicle stopped functioning. Safety of myself and other drivers would have been compromised. This is the 2.0L Turbo motor and have been advised that there are several issues with this motor and should trade in vehicle. I don’t have that option and this is the only vehicle I have.

Death Wobble/uncontrollable shaking when vehicle hits any kind of inconsistencies in the road, especially on the freeway. Yes it’s available for inspection upon request. I have taken it to the local Jeep dealership mechanics and Les Schwab auto center to have the problem inspected/fixed and both have told me “everything looks fine” but it is absolutely not fine when I have to put my hazards on and pull over to almost a complete stop to get the shaking to stop on the freeway. It’s terrifying. No lights or warnings happen before the incident occurs.

I am writing to formally express my frustration and concern regarding an ongoing issue with my 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. For several years, I have experienced severe shaking in my vehicle when driving at speeds between 50-70 mph after hitting a minor bump. The vibrations are so severe that it feels like the vehicle is going to shred itself in half. The issue has gotten worse over the years. Once this occurs, it requires rapid deceleration to 40 mph for the issue to subside. Most concerning is that on [XXX], this shaking occurred twice while driving in heavy traffic on [XXX] with my [XXX] son in the back seat. The severity of the issue poses an undeniable safety risk—not just to me and my passengers, but to others on the road as well. Given Jeep’s reputation for durability and off-road capability, it is deeply disappointing that such a serious issue is not being addressed with more urgency. After the event on [XXX], I initially addressed this issue with a Jeep service center at Dellen Chrysler Jeep and Dodge in Greenfield, IN. I was informed that the problem was related to the steering damper. However, despite recognizing the issue, my vehicle has yet to receive the necessary replacement due to a nationwide shortage of the part more than 2 months later. I implore someone from Dellen, Jeep, and/or NHTSB to do the right thing and properly warn owners about this serious safety issue. As a consumer and Jeep fan, it is unacceptable to me that: 1) A vehicle fails this catastrophically during normal driving, putting the public at risk. 2)Jeep doesn’t have sufficient inventory to fix the problems. 3)Jeep isn’t doing anything to make owners aware of this seriousness of the issue. Steering damper has been replaced 4 times due to random starting of violent shaking when hitting a bump on the highway. When this shake occurs the vehicle is harder to control and entire vehicle shakes. It was replaced 4 times but they had 6 chances to permanently fix this issue. Some times they chose not to do any work on the car. Being as this makes the vehicle harder to control, hitting another bump while shaking causes dangerous unpredictability when driving. The jeep dealership was able to recreate the shaking before replacing the steering damper each time. The part was inspected and prepped by the mechanic each time before being replaced in my vehicle. There are no indications such as warning lamps or messages prior to it happening it is unpredictable. I was told by the mechanic the last time it was replaced that this is an ongoing issue with 2021 Jeep Wranglers and that Jeep keeps updating the steering damper part but the have yet to be able to fix the issue with all the new updates to the part they are making. The first time it occurred was at about 17K miles and my car is now at 45K miles, so it has been replaced 5 times in the span of 28K miles

Extreme steering wobble at speeds over 65 mph when hitting bumps on the highway. First time was with about 20,000 miles didn’t not know what it was, and it stopped after slowing down. After more times this happened I want to the dealer my warranty was expired and the want to replace the steering stabilizer to start. This problem now happens about every 5 miles on the highway and I fear losing control so I don’t drive over 65 mph with this vehicle. What can be done to fix this

The following is copy of an email sent to JEEP CEO in November and then again in January. I have not received a response. I have also sent an email to the dealer. I ask NHTSA to look into Dear Mr. [XXX] : I would like your assistance in a major issue I am having with my 2021 Jeep Wrangler Sport. I have contacted the dealer (Airpark Jeep- [XXX] ) and your corporate customer service department with both saying they are unable to help me. As I am sure you know, social media has a lot of information on what is referred to as the Jeep Death Wobble- A problem with the stabilizer bar. My jeep has this issue and it hits mostly at highway speeds causing the entire jeep to shake violently until the jeep settles down. This is now happening too many times and there is nothing the driver can do, but hold tight on the wheel and hope the shaking doesn't cause an accident. I can not believe this was not addressed via a safety recall! This problem has the potential in my opinion to lead to serious injury or death of passengers in the jeep and others nearby! I will be turning the jeep in at the end of February and I assume the dealer will have to fix the problem (I am told it takes a couple hours to replace the stabilizer bar), before the vehicle is sold as a used jeep. To allow this condition to exist is inexcusable by both Jeep HQ and the local Jeep dealer. Because this has been a known issue and Jeep and your dealers have done nothing to resolve this problem, I will not simply go away. I and other jeep owners are owed something more than "We can't help". I have owned two CJ-7s, one Grand Cherokee, and now my Wrangler Sport. As part of a Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team, I am required to have a solid 4-wheel drive vehicle. Based on this experience and a few other issues that were not resolved, I will now consider purchasing the Ford Bronco instead. I would like the courtesy of a response please. On three separate occasions the vehicle began violently shaking giving the impression the front wheels were coming off (aka the death wobble). On all three occasions the shaking started while driving straight on paved road at 45-60mph. The first two incidents occurred within a week’s time. The Jeep services testing reported no issues. At that time they performed a realignment and sent me on my way. The most recent occurrence happened on Jan. 18, 2025. On this occasion the same Jeep services testing reported a possible problem with the tie rods. This vehicle was purchased in Jan 2021 and currently has about 25,500 miles. It has not been driven off road and has not been modified. Considering Jeep’s well documented issues of this nature, it does not seem that they have addressed the problems.

While cruising control is engaged, turning the steering wheel 5-10 degrees to the right will result in disruption of the cruise control and displaying a message "cruise control cancelled." This results in an abrupt deceleration during a turn that is unexpected and can create a safety hazard. Additionally, the illumination of steering wheel switches flickers with 5 degrees of right turn. This appears to be consistent with the findings of recall 15B, but my VIN is not included in the recall.

My 2021 jeep wrangler unlimited started shaking uncontrollably at highway speeds, and whenever I hit a bump in the road. I took it to a dealership which shows no active recalls. The dealership ran a diagnostic a d claims it is a faulty steering wheel damper. As this is an ongoing issue from previous jeep years, I was hoping you could investigate.

01/21/25 While driving on Interstate 64 at posted 70 mph suddenly experienced a complete shuddering of the vehicle. I was able to maintain forward direction with speed. Control on by “gripping” tightly with both hands and then braking quickly to shoulder and engaging 4 way flasher. I thought at first I must have hit something in the road or experienced a sudden tire blowout. But myself, spouse and brother-in-law exited the vehicle and could discern no apparent vehicle damage. No loose body trim / tires intact. I got down on the pavement and viewed the undercarriage and no loose parts were observed. Decided to drive it if possible. Vehicle started up fine and then accelerating to speed limit pulled up existing tire pressure and they were 36-37 psi. About 15 miles later now on I69 experienced the same sudden intense “shuddering “ of the vehicle. This time I braked quickly and let off the gas peddle and the wobble stopped. Immediately continued to Evansville Jeep dealer , reported the issue. They could not examine the vehicle immediately and though I expressed concern about driving the vehicle 50 miles back home I was told no loaner car available. I did make an appointment for 01/23/25 the earliest opening. The person handling the issue evidently discussed the issue with a technician and came back and stated it was a common Jeep issue and may need a “damper “ or repair to a damper. When asked if my extended warranty would cover the repair he wasn’t sure though I have less than 60XXX miles and purchased May 2021 with 100,000 miles extended warranty. I told we have a major trip planned soon and have concerns.

Jeep Wrangler 2021 death wobble. This is the fourth time I’ve had a death wobble in two years out of nowhere. The vehicle will also of a sudden go into a shaking moving wobbling scenario, which feels completely unsafe to drive. I have brought this vehicle into Jeep four times in the past two years for this problem. I am requesting a buyback. They refuse to buy it back based on this very unsafe situation

I have a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Sport that only has 24k miles on it (all oem stock components with zero modification) and I have been experiencing death wobble issues when traveling at highway speeds and driving over seam transitions where the road meets bridge crossings. The vehicle shakes uncontrolably and it's absolutely terrifying. The only way to get it to stop is to remove my foot from the gas pedal, apply the brakes and come to a near stop. I took it to the dealership and all suspension parts are in good condition with no wear and bolts are tightened to oem torques. The dealership is recommending a steering stabilizer be installed, which is going to cost me $400 with no guarantee it will fix the issue. Many Jeep forums state the steering stabilzer is a band aid fix that does not resolve this serious safety defect long term. We'll see what happens, but quite honestly I'm scared to even drive it anymore. If it continues to experience death wobble after this supposed fix, I'm getting rid of it and trading it in on a more reliable brand, but am concerned about the next person who ends up buying it. It's an obvious design flaw that has been going on with Jeeps for 2 decades and Jeep needs to go back to the drawing board and figure out a permanent long term fix. I have owned many vehicles in my life and I have never experienced this problem with other brands. It seems to be synonymous with the Jeep brand.

With less than 35,000 miles on a 2021 jeep wrangler, I have started to experience extreme shaking when going over a bump. Otherwise, known as the “Death Wobble”. The steering wheel shakes uncontrollably and could cause a serious accident while driving. I was told that the 2021 and newer models would not have this problem due to manufactures addressed the design flaw. Jeep has known about this issue for many years but has done nothing to make repairs or changes to the vehicle design. This is a huge safety concern because I could lose control of my vehicle while the steering shakes uncontrollably or cause an accident because the only way to stop the shaking is to quickly decrease speed. My vehicle was inspected by Gillman Jeep in Houston, Texas.

I was driving down the highway about 75 miles an hour I hit a bump and the front tires started shaking had to pull over before it would stop. About a week later it happened again at 65 mph.

Jeep Death Wobble. Dealer is acting like this is an unknown issue.

Dec 24, 2024

While driving on an interstate at approximately 65 mph, i crossed a bridge. When i ran over the expansion joint the steering wheel started violently shaking in my hands. It continued until i slowed down to a near stop and then was fine. On the same trip, it did this several times. When I took the jeep to a local dealer, they told me the steering damper (original to the vehicle) was defective. I helps them replace it and so far have not experienced the problem. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. Nearly losing control of a vehicle at 65 mph or more, with traffic all around, is extremely dangerous, as is trying to come to a stop as quickly as possible when surrounded by other vehicles that are going just as fast. I found many reports of similar issues with previous models of jeeps online but obviously their solution did not adequately address the problem.

With only 10,000 miles on the Jeep wrangler vehicle, we are experiencing the death wobble. We contacted Jeep and they advised us this was not covered under our warranty any longer since past 3 years. We had the dealership request reconsideration on our behalf since this is a known issue and they agreed to pay for 60% of the repair, however They should be liable for all of it since this is an ongoing issue with their vehicles specifically the 2021 year. Please assist us with getting this actually recalled and get reimbursement.

VIN: [XXX] I own a 2021 Jeep Wrangler that has 35K miles on it, very well taken care of and never off road. When i hit a bump my jeep shakes really bad to where it feels as if will make me crash due to it becoming out of control. I'm reading online this is a common problem with this jeep as described as (Death Wobble) A certified mechanic looked at my jeep and found that I have loose tie rod ends and my drag link is loose? My question is with an almost new jeep with not many miles on it is there a recall out with this issue? Seems so many other jeep owners are empiercing the same problem? What can I do to correct this? I was traveling at 55 mph on 4 lane highway and hit a bumo in the road. The vehicle began to shake to a point where it was nearly uncontrollable. I was able to get to the side of the road and stop. I then drove slowly and the shaking stopped. This was on a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. Further investigation indicated that this is a WIDE SPREAD problem with Jeep Wranglers. I have taken the vehicle to the local Jeep dealer who verified it the DEATH WOBBLE. It apparently is due to a malfunctioning steering damper. I have instructed the dealer to repair but they have indicated that there is no reimbursement for this problem despite its common occurrence on Jeep Wranglers

The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the contact experienced failure known as the death wobble. The contact stated that the vehicle started shaking violently after driving over a bump in the roadway, causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle. The contact regained control of the vehicle once the vehicle had slowed down and the shaking ceased. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the model year vehicle was not covered under recall. The contact was then informed that the steering wheel stabilizer needed to be installed to prevent the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000.

In the three years I have owned this vehicle I have had the steering damper replaced to correct uncontrollable vibrating of the steering wheel, commonly referred to as the “Death Wobble”. The issue occurs when driving at highway speeds and requires the driver to quickly slow down to stop the “wobble”. There is no warning light or detection, and the issue come on quickly. The dealer has identified the problem with the remedy being replacement of the steering damper. While this does initially fix the symptoms, it does not correct the problem, as I have had three dampers replaced in 24 months. This is obviously only a bandaid and not the correct fix for this dangerous problem. My opinion is that a recall is needed to allow for a proper repair.

When driving on highway my car is losing control. This is non-stop every time I hit a bump in the road. The vehicle becomes uncontrollable.

Oct 8, 2024

Beginning September 30th I experienced the Death Wobble while driving on the highway. It cause violent shaking of my vehicle. It stopped when i slowed to about 50 MPH, each subsequent day after that it would start shaking when i reached a speed of over 60 MPH. It is currently with the dealer to be repaired. Issues include: steering shock has air, also there is an updated longer shoulder bolt that holds the dampner that should fix the steering wheel shake. They also discovered the shock absorbers leak shock oil. In addition, I have had to replace the auxiliary battery placed 2x since I have bought and it is already draining to low levels, which will prevent the electronic system to work less than 1 year after replacing the battery last. These all are defects to the design and should be recalled as they are safety issues.

I have experience multiple episodes of the "death wobble"that previous 2021 Jeep Wrangler have reported over the past year. The steering wheel starts to wobble at times going over 60mph or hitting a bump. It appears that that the auto maker does not have an answer given the reports I have reviewed by NHTSA.

Sep 15, 2024

When driving above 30 MPH and going over a bump the car shakes and wobbles Violently feeling like the tires and steering wheel will fall off. This has been referred to as the “death wobble.” The car has some warranty remaining and is going in for repair with an authorized Jeep dealer.

DEATH WOBBLE. Loose, or misaligned mechanical parts shake violently when driving on highway causing the “wobble” in the front end steering and suspension. Exactly the same way the 2018 and 2019 Jeep issue occurred, as noted by NTHSA in 2019.

Aug 2, 2024

The 2021 jeep wrangler wheels wobble at moderate speeds. the dealer informed me that jeeps up til 2020 had this problem and it was covered under a extended warranty. I just had to spend over $300 to get the steering damper replaced and I cannot get anyone at jeep to talk to me about this problem, even though it IS a known problem.

Jul 26, 2024

I was driving to work on 7-25-24 at approximately 65 mph and suddenly my jeep started to shake . It was so violent I just grabbed the wheel so tight , let off the gas and hoped I didn't crash. Cars were swerving around me. I called the dealer and told them the problem. I refused to drive the car and had it towed to the dealer. This is the second time this Death wobbled happened in the last two years. The dealer ended up changing the steering Damper both times. I feel just changing the same parts is not fixing this problem. Now I have a vehicle that I'm deathly afraid of driving. Apparently there is a known problem with this death wobble . I am writing this not just for my self but everyone else that is at risk and don't even know about this. I hope someone really looks into this problem . I am not sure what my rights are and want to get out of my lease . This car is not worth dying for. Thanks in Advance for you help

In Jan 2023 my Jeep experienced the “death wobble” where I hit a bump at speeds above 60mph and the steering started violently shaking. The jeep was less than 2 years old and had less than 20,000 miles; all stock, never lifted and not used for offroad. I took the Jeep to the Gilbert AZ Jeep dealership who determined it was the steering stabilizer and replaced it. This week, in July 2024 the death wobble returned on the freeway going full freeway speed and I struggled to maintain control of the vehicle. I contacted the Jeep dealership and they said I could pay $200 to diagnose and if it was the steering stabilizer again all they could do was put a new one on. If it was anything else they would not cover as the jeep was 5 months out of warranty - but has only 29,000 miles on it. His suggestion was to buy an aftermarket part. He said this part fails frequently. This is unacceptable! Why has this part not been recalled or remade?? This is going to result in a violent accident or death.

May 16, 2024

When the vehicle had 6000 miles it was taken in twice for the death wobble and had parts replaced. It continues to experience the death wobble in cold temperatures to a point of severe inability to control. The dealer will not honor the warranty and factory wants to charge 200 dollars to diagnose for a third time. Even though they are totally aware of the issue.

The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH over a bumpy road surface, the vehicle experienced a death wobble. The contact stated that the front end of the vehicle was wobbling violently from side to side and pulling toward the opposite lane. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving and exceeding 40 MPH on bumpy road surfaces. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the steering shock absorber system needed to be upgraded to a double steering shock absorber system. The dealer informed the contact that the repair could not be covered under the warranty. The contact declined to pay for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they were waiting for the dealer to submit a claim with the diagnostic report. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.

Jeep death wobble. Same problem as the 2018/2019 models. Over 45 mph and/or hit a bump and the Jeep wobbles uncontrollably and won’t stop until you slow to almost a stop. Incredibly dangerous for highway driving. There are no warning signs before it happens. This happened to me on a congested and fast moving highway.

Mar 25, 2024

Jeep will occasional shake violently at approximately 60 MPH. Had vehicle in to dealer in July 2023. Dealer said problem fixed. Most recent incident March 19th. Commonly referred to as Jeep “death wobble.” Vehicle in shop again.

Mar 21, 2024

The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle drove over a bump and experienced a death wobble. The contact then decelerated the vehicle to 45 MPH and was able to correct the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the steering damper needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000. The VIN was invalid.

Mar 19, 2024

The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, the entire vehicle began to shake while driving over a bridge. The contact stated that no warning lights were illuminated prior to the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the failure could not be duplicated. The failure continued and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a bent tie rod. The tie rod was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back a third time to the dealer and the contact was informed that the steering wheel damper needed to be replaced; however, the part was on backorder. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but no case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 26,000.

After a period of 10 minutes in stop-and-go traffic, a shift warning light indicated on the warning panel. All the lights for the gear shift lever would light up individually. The vehicle turned off the stability control system and indicated a warning to proceed driving however the vehicle may not be able to shift into park. After about 3 miles of driving, it felt like the power steering stopped working and it was extremely difficult to control and turn the vehicle. It also felt like the vehicle would not shift properly. Once the vehicle was to the side of the road, it indicated that the vehicle was not in park despite moving the gear shift lever to park. The vehicle would not turn off of accessory mode. Had whatever happened to the power steering happened at any higher rate of speed, the vehicle would have been impossible to control in a turn or traffic. It took every bit of arm strength to coax the vehicle to the side of the road.

Mar 11, 2024

While driving vehicle on highway at 70mph, vehicle went completely out of control shaking violently and would not stop violently shaking until a complete stop on a highway. My wife thought she was going to die. Apparently this is known in the Jeep community as the "Death Wobble." There needs to be a recall immediately before someone dies. This is completely un expectable.

While driving down the road, whether local road at 45MPH or on the interstate at 70MPH, under certain conditions the front end starts to wobble out of control and I have to stop the vehicle to get the wobble to stop. This is a known problem and on all of the forums you can see discussions about this exact issue. There is a problem with defective steering dampers which may be undersized for the Jeep Wrangler. This has happened on multiple occasions to me. I went to the local dealership early January 2024 under warranty and they confirmed a defective steering damper. They said the part was scheduled to arrive Jan 30, 2024. Today is March 6 and the part is still on back order for at least 45 days as per the parts department. These vehicles need to be pulled off of the road or Jeep needs to be forced to get the parts ASAP. The local dealership said they have several Jeep Wraglers waiting on this part. This is a nationwide problem. Please help get this addressed. Jeep has identified the problem but the lack of parts is the issue. Putting heat on Jeep is what needs to be done. I have attached an article that discusses this issue named the Jeep Death Wobble.

The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle began to vibrate and sway left to right, commonly referred to as a "death wobble". No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the steering linkage. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not assist. The contact also received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V116000 (Power Train); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The failure mileage was 21,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

My jeep has 42,000 miles on it and the entire steering assembly has to be replaced. This is directly related to poor quality parts including Ball Joints that failed early resulting in excess vibration in the steering system and ultimately complete wearing out of all component. total cost of repair (excluding tires) is in excess of $3,500.

My son was driving our 2021 Jeep Wrangler in the town of state college and the power steering pump stopped working - the vehicle has less than 25k miles. He was able to to move the car out of traffic and avoid an accident. He is very lucky as if this would have happened on the 300 miles of highway between our home and state college at 65mph this could have ended in tragedy After waiting three weeks for the first available appt at the dealer - the dealer said the power steering pump is defective. no warning lights, no symptoms of a problem.

Feb 17, 2024

While driving our jeep there are many times on the highway that it starts to shake and wobble very bad. To the point where we have to slow down sometimes under 50mph before it stops doing it. It is very dangerous and the dealer keeps telling us when they test drive it it doesn't do it so there's nothing they can do. Stay away from these

Feb 14, 2024

My 2021 Wrangler began experiencing a violent shaking and reduction of steering control in July 2023. The violent shaking would begin if my vehicle hit a bump while traveling at 65 mph or more. To regain control, I would have to brake and reduce speed to under 65mph (which also is extremely dangerous to do on a freeway). Thunder Jeep in Bartow, FL replaced a broken steering component that temporarily fixed the issue. The issue has now returned in late January 2024. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle.

Feb 13, 2024

Steering wheel violently shakes at speeds above 50 mph, essentially if hitting any sort of bump in the road. This is known as the Jeep "death wobble." We received a damper from Jeep that supposedly fixes the problem. That did not fix anything. Steering wheel still violently shakes at speeds above 50 mph. It can shake for short periods of time (5-10 seconds) or indefinitely. We have to completely stop the car, typically on the shoulder of a freeway/highway, in order to get the shaking to stop. My wife and I feel incredibly unsafe while driving this vehicle. The damper took 10 weeks to arrive so we had to just deal with it for that time period. We thought the nightmare would be over after the damper was installed, but that's not the case. We are now left with a very expensive vehicle that we do not feel safe driving.

Feb 12, 2024

Over 60mph, hit a small road imperfection and steering shakes violently with the full loss of steering control until vehicle speed is reduced to below 45mph

Feb 10, 2024

I have been experiencing the "death wobble" front end issues. It prevents me from highway driving. First experience almost caused an accident. Dealer said it requires a new steering damper but have been terrible with information on if and when part was shipped and when I can expect the issue to be resolved.

Feb 9, 2024

was driving on the freeway about 65mph-70mph when suddenly the Jeep started the shake tremendously. Luckily there was no traffic, and I was able to pull over and stop the car immediately. this is a big safety concern as it made it hard to control and traumatizing for the driver. cars should not do that. We are scheduling an appointment to ensure nothing is broken. No warnings were shown when the incident happened.

Feb 7, 2024

1.The vehicle shakes uncontrollably when hitting a bump on the highway at all times. Started with only every now and then. Currently I am unable to drive the vehicle on the highway due to safety concerns. If traveling 50 miles or more, steering wheel shakes and whole car shakes until I slow down. Vehicle is available to inspect and drive to confirm. 2.My safety and that of others is put at risk every time I hit a bump on the highway because I have to step on the brake in order to slow down enough in order to get it to stop. Several times I have had people behind me almost hit me, even when in the slow lane. 3.The vehicle was serviced by the Jeep dealership that I purchased it from I believe 3 times. Each time the problem was not correct even though they claimed they replaced a part. I had an independent mechanic (who we trust: this individual services the police car fleet for the department my husband works for). The repair lasted about a year. The shaking has gotten progressively worse over the last few months and now it always happens when any bump in the road is hit, or over a transition from the road onto an overpass, etc. 4.There are no warnings present.

Jan 25, 2024

1. Driving 70 mph on [XXX], the road was somewhat rough. I experienced severe wobbling (Chrysler calls this a shimmy) from the front end up to the steering wheel. I had to slow to about 35 mph so I could maintain control of the car. Jeep dealership said the car was manufactured with an older steering dampener. A new one is not available. 2. The display screen sometimes takes over many electrical functions. Heat and defrosting were not working during driving in a snow storm. Both of these deficiencies are safety issues and should be on a recall. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 MPH on several occasions, the vehicle experienced the death wobble and was violently shaking. The vehicle was steered to the side of the road. The vehicle was taken to the dealer six times and diagnosed with steering dampener failure. The contact was informed that the steering dampener needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 8,800.

At about 44,000 miles driving over 60-65 , going over a bump, or going around a curve at.a slower speed the jeep would violently shake, where you almost lose control. I took to the shop they replaced tie rod ends, drag link, track bar and that didn’t solve the issue they now replaced the something with steering and it’s better but still shakes a little when changing lanes. It is honestly the scariest thing ever. Something isn’t right and should be looked into, I am Not the only one with this issue and soon as my lease is up I am getting rid of it. Keep in mind I live in MN and have done NO off-roading. Someone is going to crash of these issues do not get fixed

Experienced death wobble at 50 mph multiple times on an hour drive on paved highway. Jeep is stock, no lift, no big tires. Jeep has 32,000 miles

Jan 16, 2024

My jeep wrangler entire dashboard turned red flashing , lighting up that the coolant was way too high. This has happened twice and both times when contacting Jeep corporate it was the waterpump that went bad and now has been replaced twice. Jeep corporate thinks that it is fine to replace a water pump twice in less than a year and a half . Now I have the death wobble where on the interstate at speeds over 60 miles an hour my steering wheel shakes like crazy making it hard to operate my 2021 wrangler unless I get under 60 miles per hour which is a risk for everyone on the road. When telling corporate about these issues. They have full documentation and they say well it’s covered under warranty. Well warranty doesn’t last forever and I am scared for my safety and others. Look at the reviews on Jeep corporate- none are good and talk continuously on water pump issues and death wobble problems . Please help me

Severe car shaking when hitting bump at freeway speed. Diagnosed as the “death wobble” continued to happen more frequently and severely

Jan 9, 2024

I purchased this vehicle new and the second day I drove it when I hit an expansion joint on the highway the steering wheel started to shake back and forth and the car shook badly. I took it back to the dealer, they said that there was a recall for the problem(which I found out is not true) they worked on it and it was fine until recently. I noticed the problem again with the same conditions. I have just over 36,000 miles on the vehicle now. I took it to a Jeep dealer near me since I have moved. The service manager called it a Death Wobble, which seems to be correct. They told me there was no recall, but seems to be a familiar problem with the Jeeps. They installed a new steering damper, balanced and rotated the tires, and checked the front end alignment. I seldom drive the Jeep, but last month I was going to take a trip and while driving on the interstate at approx. 72mph I crossed an expansion joint and it started to wobble so bad that I crossed into the passing lane. It didn't stop until I slowed down to around 50mph. I immediately turned around and coming back it happened again when I was only going 65mph and it through me into the passing lane again. Had to slow down to about 45mph and pull off the road. I have only put about 130 miles on it since it was fixed. I'm waiting for an appointment for the dealer to get it in and check it out. I got underneath the Jeep and checked to make sure the new part didn't come loose or was leaking oil and it seems fine. I don't understand that if this is such a common knowledge problem with the Jeeps and has been for years from my understanding, why hasn't anything been done to address it?

Death wobble. At highway speeds, triggered by varying degrees of uneven spots on the road. Severe steering and control instability. Sometimes the vehicle shaking is extremely violent. Must coast down to a varying speed, sometimes down to 65-45mph for the wobble to cease. Happened multiple times, pre- and post-warranty.

Jan 2, 2024

While driving on the highway I have went over bridges or hit uneven pavement and my vehicle will go into a violent wobble with no control. It is a factory vehicle with no modifications. Happens more frequently in cold weather.

Dec 29, 2023

3 incidents of “death wobble,” first time between 4-5,000 miles and again in October and November of 2023. I’m waiting for another damper as the one they received is leaking. Also, discovered leaking shock absorber. Dangerous and terrifying as you fell like you’ll lose control of your vehicle! I’m going on being out of pocket for car rentals for 5 weeks, although reimbursed it’s still out of pocket initially. I’ve twice been told “it’s fixed!” and it’s happened again! Happens on any slight pavement change and at higher speeds 60-65 mph. The battery recall just came in and complicates my safety and confidence in this vehicle. Unacceptable that it can’t be near other vehicles, charged or stored in my garage!

Dec 28, 2023

The car and steering column start vibrating very aggressively and it is difficult to control the vehicle. It has happened 4-5 times since purchasing the vehicle in September. Sometimes it occurs after hitting a bump or pothole, but not always. Something is very wrong and it seems dangerous.

Dec 26, 2023

Driving down freeway or any road with bumps set my jeep into an uncontrollable bouncing. Today was the worst one so far. Very scary on freeway almost lost control had to drop way down in speed just to get control again. Took jeep into dealer service department right away. Waiting for service to follow-up with me.

Dec 18, 2023

At speeds about 35-45 MPH and again between 55-60 MPH vehicle steering will shake uncontrollably, with tire bounce. Requires sudden slowdowns in order to regain control. Dealership has replaced tie rods and steering stabilizer with no resolution. The shake has been present since purchasing from the dealership and has become progressively worse. Those driving behind report the appearance that "tires are going to come off".

Death Wobble on a 2021 My Mechanic is trying to fix it, and i was told that this is the first year of power assisted suspension (which he believes is causing the issues) The Death Wobble continues replaced tires and suspension parts and still has death wobble This is a KNOWN issue on Chrysler history, hence the settlement, but it didn't include my vehicle as it is a newer vehicle

Death wobble on my 2021 jeep wrangler after getting over a certain speed and hitting a bump it shakes violently

Dec 7, 2023

Death Wobble. When traveling over 45 mph and Jeep hits a bump or even mild uneven area in asphalt it can occur. It is unpredictable as it will not always happen. Vehicle has varying degrees of severity in shaking, threatening to become out of control and cause accident. It will force you to try and slow which is not easy and pull off highway until it stops. Dealership (in Manassas) sold this vehicle to us this past March and Dealership in Fredericksburg (Stafford CDJ) left us without a rental car until replacement part comes in. They have been horrible about responding and getting in touch to resolve this issue and did not give us a rental call even though our warranty covers it. It has become apparent it will put our lives at danger and others.

Dec 7, 2023

My car started shaking out of control. I was on highway. Could not get over or stop for a bit. Could have been an accident. There was a car behind me and on the side of me. I have taken it to the Jeep Dealership. It has happened 3x without warning. Online this is called the "death wobble"

Dec 4, 2023

When driving around 65-70 mph and hit a slight bump, the vehicle shacks violently and you must slow down to about 50mph. There is no warning or any other indication the issue was about to happen. This was replicated several times over the next few days. This was a safety issue as the steering became difficult to control and slowing down to below 50 on a major highway increased risk for a rear end collision. The vehicle has been inspected by a dealer and will need new steering stabilizer. Unfortunately the parts are unavailable at this time and the jeep cannot be driven on highways until repairs are made.

Nov 28, 2023

When driving and you hit a slight bump, the steering wheel and front end shakes violently. The only way to gain control of the vehicle is to slow down. This happens frequently if you are driving on a highway that has ridges or bumps.

Nov 15, 2023

When driving at highway speeds and hit a slight dip in the road, or a gap in the roadway, or a hole, the front end wobbles violently as well as the steering wheel. The only way to stop the wobbling and make the vehicle controllable again is to slow way down. This is dangerous on the highway and may cause an accident.

While driving on the Interstate at 65 mph I experienced a severe side-to-side shaking of the steering wheel. This included the entire front-end of the vehicle shimmying and visibly vibrating. If I didn't have a good grip on the steering wheel at the time, we would likely have crashed. This appears to be the "death wobble" described in numerous online forums and subject of a previous recall on 2018 and 2019 Jeep Wrangler models. Obviously, this problem still exists on 2021 models. The event seems to be precipitated by any small bump or change in pavement such as passing over a bridge on the Interstate. There was no prior warning of this event. Total vehicle mileage is 45000 and temperature was 45 degrees. There are no modifications to the vehicle and it remains completely stock. The wobble occurred repeatedly until I could get off the Interstate.

When driving on the highway, the vehicle would shake uncontrollably when i hit a bump. Also know as the death wobble. I took my Jeep to the dealer for evaluation. The dealer recommended that the steering damper be replaced along with some additional parts. I have mechanical breakdown coverage with Geico and a service plan with Autonation. I also contacted Jeep Cares as the death wobble is a know problem with Jeeps. Jeep Cares would not assist with the repair because I had mechanical breakdown coverage with my auto insurance policy. My mechanical breakdown coverage thru Geico has a $250 deductible which I am responsible for with any repair. Jeep told me that steering damper was on backorder with an ETA of 30-45 days or longer. They then told me that I could pick up my car and drive it as long as I stayed under 50 miles. I told them this option would not work for me because I drive 30 miles to and from work each day. Jeep then told me that they would look for an OEM replacment. The OEM replacment was successful but I had to pay an additional $90 for the part as my mechanical breakdown coverage only covered the cost for the part from Jeep. At the end of the day I am out of $340 plus dollars for a known Jeep issue. Jeep needs to stand behind their problem regardless of mileage. This is a serious problem.

Death wobble occurs almost daily and multiple times a day when going over bump. Seems to happen when going over 40mph. Steering doesn’t stabilize until almost completely stopping. A few times, needed to pull over and stop vehicle to get the wobble to stop.

Oct 24, 2023

At 27,000 miles, bought brand new the “death wobble” started. I plan to take to dealership next week. I have no known if this issue but from research it’s a major issue in wranglers. This is a safety hazard. No one should be driving this vehicle with this issue. I bought brand new so I wouldn’t have to deal with issues such as this. I’ve never taken it off roading. Only highway.

Oct 23, 2023

My vehicle shook violently while in operation, no indicator or warning lights came on. I called the dealership for an appt and did some research on the issue. Service department found the steering dampner to be weak and replaced it. Jeep has 13,088 miles, out of warranty 5 days prior to service call. Incident happened 3 days after warranty expiration. Jeep has never been off-road. I have the dampner that was removed, no one has looked at it except the service department. The problem was confirmed by the dealer rep as calling it the "Death Wobble". My safety and others were put at risk by my having to divert my attention from the road to my jeep, turn on Emergency flashers and ease my jeep out of traffic. Then I had to slowly and cautiously ease back into traffic to get to the right side of the highway. This happened 2 more times before I was able to get home.

Oct 23, 2023

Death wobble started last week, took in for warranty service today and technician replicated issue. Conflicting info received that replacement part is backorder yet Mopar site says part is in stock and ready to ship. Dealership said to pick the vehicle up and wait for part to be received for repair.

I purchased the jeep brand new. At 14,000 miles it started to death wobble. Wheel, and entire front of jeep was shaking violently after hitting the slightest bump or dip in road (nothing outside of normal highway bumps). To stop the shaking I have to pull over and stop. The dealership keeps doing bandaids with dampner,, other stuff but keeps saying that's all corporate says to do. It was brought in multiple times with the fix maybe lasting several months. I am past my 36,000 warranty so now I have to pay for something that wasn't fixed when it was on warranty multiple times. Sime times they said they couldn't make it happen. Ridiculous that I had to stop multiple times driving home 30 mins on the turnpike. I have to keep it under 55mph now on a car bought new and and a problem that started early on. Really angry, completely unfair.

Oct 17, 2023

When driving above 50mph, when I drive over a road seam, the car shakes almost uncontrollably. I have to slow down to make the car stop shaking. I have brought the car to Jeep service THREE TIMES in a period of 12 months. Still having the same issue. It is very dangerous. I cannot rely on this car (only 3 years old) to drive on a highway. Very dangerous!!

Oct 16, 2023

Front end shakes violently at moderately high speeds.

Oct 10, 2023

While driving down highway at 65 mph the front end and steering wheel began shaking violently after driving over a bump. This happened multiple times and every time is initiated by a road bump. Unable to properly steer Jeep when this happens. Only way to stop vibrations/wobble is to reduce speed to almost a complete stop. As there were vehicles around me, this put me in a precarious position as I tried to slow down and get over to road shoulder to avoid a collision.

Oct 9, 2023

While driving down Highway at 70MPH hit bridge connector gap while in Slight Left turn and front end on my 2021 Jeep Wrangler Sport started to Shimmy wildly. Was controllable and as I slowed below 55 and it stopped. Happened several times during 70 mile trip and each time I was able to slow the vehicle and recover. Researched complaint on Internet and saw similar complaints of death wobble with Wranglers since 2008. Just wanted to confirm the issue still remains and has not been corrected. This could cause inexperienced drivers to panic and wreck or worse yet cause an real accident while they try to asses the situation. Since the problem has been around so long I'd ask why nothing has been done to correct the issue permanently. If its due to solid axel, then maybe that needs to be replaced. There is no reason to have such a huge safety issue remain open for such an extended period of time unchanged.

Oct 4, 2023

Known Jeep Wrangler issue "Death Wobble". When hit a bump at 60-70 MPH, Jeep shakes violently. Reducing speed and the shake stops. Steering damper replaced on 5/31/23 and 8/31/23. Occurred again and now the Power Steering Gear Box is being replaced. Disappointing for this on a known problem on a 2 year old Jeep.

Sep 24, 2023

Driving on I-91 at 60-65 mph and steering wheel locked up making vehicle control impossible. I could have collided with multiple vehicles, was lucky enough that vehicle swerved off exit ramp and jumped a curb into a nearby gas station. Cautiously drove vehicle to nearby dealership and currently onsite under evaluation by Chrysler corporate. There was an intermittent warning light to service the " gear shifter" a few months before but dealer could not find code when vehicle examined so dismissed until happening again. This incident affected me emotionally and I'm now hesitant to drive this vehicle post repair on the highway.

Sep 9, 2023

Vehicle has known steering/suspension issue knows as the Jeep "death wobble". It has now been in the shop for this twice with no fix. The first attempt took place approximately June 17, 2023. The car is now back in the service center addressing the same issue and had to be towed to the dealership. Owner does not feel safe driving the vehicle. I am attaching service report from first visit.

As I review events in chronological order, I see that a possible disconnect might be caused by clumping the symptoms together and treating as the “death wobble,” when in fact I may be experiencing two separate issues, the first being a failed steering damper and the second being caused by possible bad ball joint[s]. I first started to experience an issue around 7,000 miles in where the Jeep would pull to the right. It was a strong pull because my steering wheel would be turned to the left at about 15-25 degrees to the left in order to keep straight. had them check the alignment. The invoice said the alignment was checked and it was “ok,” December 24 – Florida gets a cold front and we experienced temperatures in the low 20’s with the high temperature peaking at 32 or 33 degrees for a couple days. I drive my normal route on the highway and as I am approaching 65 mph, I go over a transition from asphalt to concrete bridge and the car starts to do the death wobble, where a strong vibration from the front end shook the car until I let off the gas and slowed down to about 40mph. my sister-in-law also experienced in her 2020 Jeep, the same day the freeze set in. Ive had steering gearbox changed and two stabilizers replaced already, JEEP TSB once stated: JL JT have unique torque values for ball joints as compared to prior JK models due to material (aluminum knuckles) and design changes. I guarantee its the crappy ball joints and they REFUSE to admit it. Jeep still claims they cant duplicate the issue or i need to replace tires (that are wearing unevenly bc of ball joint issues) befor they can continue diagnosis. 4 different dealerships. 4 different outcomes. even [XXX] from their corporate office stopped responding to me. Serious steering wobble while driving on highway in Denver at approx. 65 mph yesterday plus same serious wobble at lower speed (~60 mph) while passing car on country road. Took nearly a mile to stop the wobble and speed reduction to around 35 mph to stop! Very dangerous situations in both cases.

Aug 12, 2023

I had the front wheels “wobble”. I had shocks replaced and a steering damper installed. The front end still bounces up and down, or wobbles, on every interstate overpass at interstate speeds.

Aug 8, 2023

Persistent death wobble vehicle is stock with no modifications. Driving at 65 on the highway a single small bump will cause violent shaking of the steering wheel and the front end. The shaking is aggressive enough to make you lose control of the vehicle and cause an accident. The vehicle has been for service multiple times for this issue. Every time the issue persist without resolve.

Aug 7, 2023

6 - 29 - 23 when engine was started several warning lamps lit up including service electric stability control . as i drove the vehicle the power steering was out and vehicle was hard to control . had vehicle towed to dealership service dept. vehicle in warranty . no repairs done to vehicle and as of 8 - 7 - 23 vehicle is still in the shop. safety of me and others at risk if vehicle continues in this condition without repair.

Aug 3, 2023

Power steering unexpectedly stopped working while going 55 mph. I’m learning there are others that deal with this issue so I decided to file a complaint as I’m not expecting Jeep to fix the issue. After safely pulling over, I power cycled the Jeep and the power steering was restored. Has only happened once, but fully expecting it to happen again. Losing power steering at high speeds is one thing, but turning the Jeep at low speeds was extremely difficult and extremely unsafe.

Jun 30, 2023

Earlier this year vehicle would sometimes do the following, not at start up but when driving; Wipers on by themselves & driver can't shut off, turn signals inop, Both sides blind spot warning continously on alerting driver every time a vehicle on either side is passed or passes vehicle, anywhere from three to five dash warning lights illuminated. Took to dealer in April 2023 & diagnosed a bad can bus connector. Replaced connector (approx $700). Seemed to be the fix until it started again June 2023. This time all the above issues started up again including loss of power steering. I was on I70 at highway speeds in rush hour traffic and it was very dangerous. Returned to dealer yesterday 6/29/23 Immediately following loss of power steering while vehicle was displaying faults & they read codes. They are booked for 2 weeks so I'm scheduled to drop it off 7/10/2023. Dealer has been fine to work with and willing to help. My chief complaint is I have found numerous others that this is happening to (internet Wrangler JL forum) & I feel like car mfg knows about this and is not doing anything about it.

Jun 8, 2023

While driving the vehicle will just go crazy all lights come and things stop working throttle control, etc. it’s hard to control the vehicle

Jun 7, 2023

On multiple occasions when driving at speeds over ~50 MPH, and hitting a bump or hole in the road (highways), a terrifying wobble occurs in the steering wheel. It is shaking so violently that it also feels as though the suspension, steering, and maybe other components are compromised. I am concerned that this is an issue that could lead to severe accident / injury / fatality. I am able to regain control of the vehicle after slowing and pulling off the road. I’m fortunate enough that these incidents have thus far happened during times of low traffic where I’ve been able to pull to the shoulder and regain control. I’m very concerned that it could happen when that’s not feasible or that the vehicle could lose control altogether at highway speed. I’m also incredibly concerned that Jeep dealers in my area weren’t able to accept my vehicle for weeks and wouldn’t offer any options for loaner / rental support. It feels to me like Jeep is accepting the risk that serious injury / accident / fatality could occur vs prioritizing consumer safety.

Jun 4, 2023

- The front suspension, steering and tires are available for inspection. - A safety risk occurred immediately as I crossed an uneven transition from asphalt to concrete at the beginning of a bridge. The steering wheel/front end/vehicle began to shake violently at highway speed and maintaining control became difficult. I was unable to keep the vehicle in my lane. I immediately decelerated and with a semi on my rear, was eventually able to slow enough to use one hand to engage emergency flashers. The shaking stopped at about 35 mph. I've since learned this is referred to as a 'death wobble'. - Appointment made for dealership inspection on June 6, 2023. - There were no messages, symptoms or warnings.

Jun 4, 2023

When driving over 50mph or above at highway speeds. When vehicle hits uneven or rough roadway. Violent shaking happens immediately Jeep websites call it the Death Wobble where, everything shakes really bad and is very stressful and scary. When the vehicle slows down to under 30mph the violent shaking stops. We brought the vehicle to the Cocoa Fl, Boniface Hiers Chrysler and Jeep dealership to have repaired. They made some adjustments the problem stopped for about 8 months. It has started doing the Death Wobble again. Have to take the vehicle back in to the dealership again.

May 31, 2023

My 2021 Jeep Wrangler shakes uncontrollably if I hit any small bump at higher speed. It’s vibrates the entire vehicle making it impossible to steer or control. It only stops when I come to a complete stop. This is a safety issue and dangerous to drive. The vehicle has been inspected by a service department to replace steering damper, but have read this only temporary fixes the issue. There needs to be a recall for this vehicle even for models as new as 2021.

May 31, 2023

Car began death wobble a little over 15,000 miles. Bumps at greater than 45 mph would result in this. Car would have to be stopped on highways to reset. Steering dampener exchanged by dealer, and issue was deemed fixed. Issue continues as car shakes over 65mph and pulls hard to the right. Car was taken in a second time, alignment was paid for out of customer pocket due to being categorized as wear and tear. Dealer says issue fixed. Immediately upon driving, issue is not fixed and car continues to shake violently over 65mph and pull hard to the right. Car taken in a third time. Now issue is inner wall of company chosen tires. Apparently it is too weak over time to support vehicle frame. At the beginning of this issue the car was one year old. Jeep refusing to cover tire replacement as stated it is a wear and tear issue. Even though it began at 15000 miles and is due to poor quality control on part of Jeep. Issue not with Bridgestone tire itself. Issue with tire specs not being able to withstand Wrangler frame.

May 23, 2023

While driving on the highway the car started to shake violently as if one of the wheels was about to fall off. Pulled over to call jeep service and they said it was most likely a faulty steering dampner and that this has been a major issue for many new wranglers. So much so that parts were on back order at most dealerships. Only way to get expediated was to call Jeep Cares and plead my case. Advice was to drive below 50MPH until they could locate a new part and replace.

May 18, 2023

My Jeep Wrangler has the famous "Death Wobble" and they cant seem to pinpoint what is causing it. Steering dampener fixed it for 3 days and it came back. It literally feels like I am about to be ejected out of my vehicle when I drive on any highway. FCA is throwing band aids at a known issue instead of bringing permanent fixed to the market.

Apr 27, 2023

The first time the violent shaking of the steering wheel and vehicle was at highway speed. Fortunately I was able to pull over safely. I called to make an appointment with my closest dealer immediately and was made to wait 30 days. That first time my vehicle had 34,000 miles on it, by the time of my appointment they said it was out of warranty for the steering dampener since I was then over 36,000. I paid the diagnostic fees, labor and the replacement part. It has not fixed the issue, it has happened more frequently and more violently. I’ve taken it two non-dealer specialists who have not been able to pin point any problems. Spoke with Jeep customer service and they are requiring it to be diagnosed by a dealer at my cost, again. The last time the shaking happened I had to hit my brakes in the middle of the highway winding up with a tractor trailer narrowly missing me. I’m afraid to drive my $45,000 vehicle and now I have to wait multiple weeks again since my dealer (and called three others) has no available appointments before I can get any help.

Apr 23, 2023

While going 55 mph, I hit a bump in the road and the Jeep started shaking all over the road. It started doing the death wobble.

Apr 12, 2023

The jeep shakes violently when you hit rough terrain. It shakes and the steering wheel starts shaking. It is the death wobble. You have to slow down way below speed limit or stop to get it to stop shaking violently.

Mar 28, 2023

When on the highway if I hit any kind of bump, especially if it is on any kind of turn it goes into what I learned it to be a "death wobble". I took it to my dealership and was told that it is the steering damper? No factory warranty on this part even though I have 100k warranty I believe. They also said no factory parts available, for several months, due to this issue, but I can upgrade to the "Fox" version for twice as much money and that the dealership just ordered 70 of these because of the problem. >

When vehicle exceeds over 50 Mph, care and steering wheel shakes uncontrollably

Mar 24, 2023

While driving the car randomly starts to violently shake (also known as death wobbles ). Steering is effected until car is almost brought to a complete stop. The car is very hard to keep on the road and is extremely dangerous. There was a recall and issued which I brought it into the dealership for but it has been 3 months and they still do not have the parts to fix it.

Mar 22, 2023

While driving on the interstate, I passed over an expansion gap doing about 65 mph. As soon as I my left tire hit the expansion gap, the front of the vehicle started shaking uncontrollably to the point that I had to quickly decelerate from the middle lane and get to the shoulder to avoid an accident. At this time, I am awaiting being able to get into a service center to inspect, however there are many instances reported with the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe with the same issue. No warners or other symptoms presented themselves prior or after the incident.

Mar 21, 2023

Driving over 60 mph if I hit I bump the vehicle starts to violently shake. I then have to slow down for it to stop

Mar 21, 2023

The Jeep 2021 Wrangler developed the "Death Wobble". When we hit a pot hole, the extent of the shaking almost caused us to loose control of the vehicle. We have contacted Jeep about it, but they do not believe it is a problem despite a Class Action Lawsuit for 2018-2020 Wranglers that use the same body and suspension parts as the 2021.

Mar 20, 2023

Since November of 2022 the vehicle has been violently shaking in the steering wheel that occurs at speeds ranging from 50-70+ mph. It tends to happen on pavement change see such as bridges or potholes. The wheel shakes so violently that you need to slow to under 50 to get it to stop. I have brought it to multiple dealerships. The first replaced the steering damper on 2/1/23 with the newest FCA approved Damper. Within about 2 weeks the issue returned and seemed worse. I brought it to the dealership who couldn't replicate the problem because their techs could not drive 70mph. Talked with jeep wave and opened a case with them and they advised to bring to a different dealer. Brought to new dealer who drove the vehicle and experienced the violent shaking. They removed the damper and reinstalled. A week later the issue has returned and another appointment has been made. While traveling on the interstate this happened 7 times in 1 two hour trip. I had to pull over to the shoulder in traffic that many times which puts everyone in danger. Jeep keeps claiming it's the steering damper that is the issue but even after replacing with the newest version this still happens. It is very scary to have it happen randomly and puts everyone at risk at those speeds. I was able to film it happening and have that video readily available. I keep bringing the vehicle back to the dealership but there has not been a fix as of yet. Please hold FCA accountable and help resolve this issue.

The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH over a bump in the roadway, the vehicle began to shake abnormally. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated he decelerated to 20 MPH and the vehicle stopped shaking. The contact experience the failure a total of 6 times. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact took the vehicle to another local dealer; CR Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Adrian (1211 US-223, Adrian, MI 49221, 517-266-5900) where it was diagnosed with needing the stabilizer steering damper to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the parts not being available. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

When driving on the highway any bump in the road triggers the vehicle to shake uncontrollably. (front end and steering wheel) Problem does not correct itself until I have to get into the emergency lane and fully stop. I feel this is not safe nor something normal. This happens quite often. Too often. Every time I drive. Dealership states that this may be "damper shock" not covered by warranty. Any information online that I can find states that this is a common defect in Jeep Wranglers making them unsafe for highway driving if the part is defective.

Feb 23, 2023

Driving on the highway and hit a bump, Jeep started violently shaking/vibrating (Death Wobble), almost lost control with cars on both sides of my Jeep. The vibration after hitting a bump has happen several times the past two months. Jeep dealership states, vehicle needs a new steering damper/stabilizer. The part is on back order, dealerships can only order so many per week due to the demand/problem with Jeeps. It could take 2-3 months to be fixed and vehicle can not be driven. This also happened with my 2018 Jeep Wrangler.

Feb 23, 2023

Vehicles tires and steering wheel begins to shake violently at speeds in the 50+ mph range on the highway. Condition occurs after hitting a small bump on the highway. The condition becomes so violent, I have to slow the vehicle from 60+ mph to about 40 mph to stop the shaking. I have taken it in and they replaced the steering dampener and it did not resolve the issue at all.

Feb 22, 2023

While driving on the highway I drove over a bridge bump and the truck started to wobble uncontrollably forcing me to slow down to 30 miles per hour before it stopped. This happened two times. We brought it to the dealership who replaced the steering damper and it happened again so they adjusted the camber of the alignment and said it should fix the issue. I have an email from the dealership where we purchased the jeep and the sales manager emailed us back indicating that what the dealership did to correct the issue is correct, but that it is not a permanent fix and that they know of the issue and are not sure how to correct it.

Feb 22, 2023

My Jeep steering is extremely loose, and very difficult to keep between the lines on the road. If the wind is blowing, it is nearly impossible. My biggest concern however, is the wobble that occurs when on the expressway. This has now happened to me five times while traveling on the expressway at around 70-75 miles per hour. The Jeep begins to wobble back and forth and you literally loose all control of steering. The only way to get it to stop is to push on the brakes and decelerate, but it is terrifying.

Feb 22, 2023

When you drive the Jeep on the highway, if you hit a bump, crack or pothole, the vehicle violently shakes, through the steering wheel and tires. The entire vehicle begins shaking uncontrollably and pulls me to the right and off the road. Have had into the dealership for 7 times, and they held vehicle for over 30 days, still not resolved. Very dangerous

Feb 21, 2023

The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the steering wheel and the vehicle started shaking abnormally. The contact pulled over on the side of the roadway to check for a tire blowout. The contact found no failure with the vehicle or the tires. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the mechanic stated that the vehicle had experienced the death wobble, but the vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 20,000.

Driving own I95, heading south in Maryland, hit a bump and vehicle started shaking/wobbling, almost lost control and had to slow down until vehicle stopped wobbling. This happen 6-9 times that day. Also has occurred several times in NJ on the turnpike and 280. Contracted Jeep HQ, told to contact a dealer.

Feb 17, 2023

The jeep has what people refer as “ the death wobble” When hitting a bump at freeway speed the steering wheel and front end shakes violently. The jeep has 13k miles and has not been off road. Jeep has been notified. Does not sound like the have a solid fix. You have to pull off the highway and stop to regain control of the vehicle.

Feb 16, 2023

The steering is loose and has a lot of play. I can be driving 25 miles per hour or 65 miles per hour and I constantly have to adjust the steering wheel to the point that my right arm actually gets tired from over correcting the steering. If I go over a bump, I have to correct the steering even more. I took it to a dealer to have it checked. The dealer confirmed there is a lawsuit regarding the steering but they are not allowed to fix it.

Feb 15, 2023

JEEP WOBBLE When driving at normal highway speeds the jeep starts shaking uncontrollably if there is a bump in the road. It is difficult to steer and to make it quit shaking I have to slow way down or come to a complete stop. This is very dangerous on the interstate during rush hour. Almost got me rear ended. Jeep is currently at the dealer who tried to tell me at first that it is because I don’t rotate my tires - I showed receipts where I do have them rotated and had just had it balanced twice within a couple weeks. Then they tried to say the tires were worn, but I also have proof from tire shop that they are good tires. Finally they ran out of excuses and admitted it was the common jeep wobble and had to order the part that is now on back order because they have had to change so many.

Feb 14, 2023

My Jeep has the infamous death wobble with violent shaking of the front end when the Jeep gets up to 50 mph or more. I have to pull over every time to stop the front end from shaking. The shaking is so violent it is very hard to control, and I've had other vehicles looking at my Jeep as if it going to blow up. This is ridiculous for a new Jeep and since Chrysler has known about this problem for years. I didn't know about it until I bought a Jeep and have ahd to deal with it.

Feb 13, 2023

The death wobble has happened 2 times in the past month traveling under 45mph. It’s dangerous as the steering wheel is all over the place and the only way to stop it is to slow down all the way. Very scary!

Feb 9, 2023

Vehicle steering vibrates uncontrollably at speeds generally over 50 mph. This only subsides if you slow the vehicle down and or bring the vehicle to a stop on the side of the road. This has done this since approximately 5,000 miles. I was told that there was no problem found. After contacting “Jeep Customer Care Service” to get them involved as we will NOT continue to put our young son and ourselves in danger of this faulty vehicle. I have been getting the runaround as to a rental vehicle. I was told by the customer service representative to take it to a dealer for the issue again. I told her that this vehicle is unsafe and the primary driver is my young son and that it was unsafe! The representative Melissa, told me to just don’t drive it on the interstate etc. After telling her that we have purchased 6 new vehicles from their parent company in the last 4 years, this would be the LAST!!! Only then she offered to start a case file for our complaint. We are still getting the runaround.

Feb 4, 2023

Death wobble: extreme vibration, uncontrollable shaking from side to side when going high speeds and hitting bumps, but also happening at lower speeds now and not large bumps. It will only stop by coming to a close stop, slower than 10-15mph. It is happening much more frequently, and the Jeep only has 26,000 miles and has never been off-road. I bought this Jeep brand new. Ordered it myself. Dealership supposedly fixed it on 02-03-23, but it continues to do it and is getting worse.

Feb 3, 2023

Jeep develops a severe WOBBLE at speeds above 50MPH. Sometimes at a lower speed if you hit the smallest of bumps. The JEEP shakes BEYOND BELEIF. It shakes so much that you CANNOT see the instruments. In order for it to stop shaking you need to almost stop the car.

Feb 2, 2023

My Jeep has has experienced the death rattle over the last 6 months. Originally it would only happen every month or so when I got over 75 MPH. However in December after I put in an order with my service center for the part to fix it (which took 6+ weeks to arrive), the rattle got so bad that it would happen every time I got on the highway and would sometimes happen under speeds of 50. There was one time that I drove 45 each way to the airport and rattle happened over 10 times.

Feb 2, 2023

The dealer called it death wobble

Feb 2, 2023

When driving a faster speeds if I hit a bump my car starts shaking rapidly feeling like my tires are gonna fall off and doesn’t stop until I pull over, took it to the dealer while under warranty and they told me there was nothing they could do about it or find the issue

Feb 1, 2023

When I accelerate over 55 mph, the front end of my jeep shakes violently, so violently I can barely hold onto the steering wheel. When driving in the fast lane on the freeway, going 65-70 mph, it shakes so badly that I almost lose control of the vehicle. I am fearful that one day, I will crash and hurt (or kill) myself, my occupants, and/or other persons in surrounding vehicles. I have reached out to my dealer and they tell me that Jeep has known about this issue, they even call it the "death wobble" - yet they do not have the parts to fix it. My car is still under warranty and I am getting no help from the dealer, they tell me it will be 2-3 months before the part comes in and there are multiple people in line ahead of me so the wait to fix it could be even longer. There are no warning lamps or messages. The symptoms began approximately 6 months ago and continue every day.

Feb 1, 2023

while driving on highway at 70 mph speed limit hit a pothole and vehicle started shaking violently had to slow to under 30 mph for it to stop. Took to dealer they said they would replace steering dampener. Waited 2 months for part to come in took to work following morning hit another pothole at 70 mph and shook so bad it blurred my vision had to slow to under 30 to get it to stop. At that point almost got rear ended by semi he swerved to avoid hitting me.

Jan 31, 2023

On Jan. 27, 2023, I was driving my 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (31,440 miles on the odometer) on the interstate, going about 65-70 mph in high volume traffic. Suddenly my right front tire started wobbling like it was going to fall off! I have never experienced anything like this. I was extremely frightened, fearing I might have a wreck or cause someone else to wreck if control of my Jeep were lost. My heart beat sped up, my hands clinched the steering wheel. I was able to slow down and the wobble went away but my anxiety did not go away. It happened about 4 more times that day on the interstate. I was traveling and concerned about my safety and that of others. I was also concerned about what was happening with my Jeep, how could I fix it, COULD it be fixed, and how was I going to pay for it. I thought the front end of my Jeep needed to be re-aligned so I took it to the dealership I bought it from, they inspected it and said it did not alignment. Said the Jeep had developed a "wobble." I was told that parts to fix this issue were not available in the U.S. and they had no ETA on when/if a part would be available. They took my phone number and said they would call if something changed. Now I have a Jeep that I am afraid of - actually terrified of. I only drive on the city streets and stay away from the interstate. My life has been limited in so many way because of this issue. I was not issued any paperwork on this problem.

Jan 26, 2023

I have had my 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe for approximately 14 months and have a little over 16,000 miles. My vehicle is now experiencing what is commonly known as the "Jeep Death Wobble". The vehicle will begin to shake violently, especially at higher speeds. It has become nearly impossible to control and is an ongoing issue. My local dealership has been unable and unwilling to fix the problem rapidly.

Jan 25, 2023

While turning at low speeds (pulling into a parking spot) and the cruise control is turned on the "set cruise" button is elevated and can be accidentally hit. If the speed of the vehicle is under 20mph it will automatically set the cruise speed to 20mph causing the vehicle to accelerate. This elevated "set cruise" button actives the regular cruise and not the adaptive cruise. This has happened to me over a dozen times. I am lucky it has not caused a wreck.

Jan 22, 2023

Going over 45 MPH, when hitting any type of bump or even changing lanes causes steering column to shake excessively. Have to come to a complete stop to stop shaking. Got steering stabilizer "fixed" but was told that the problem will continue to occur.

“death wobble” - axle begins shaking at a very fast pace, causing the car to shake in an uncontrollable manner. If you are going over 45 and hit the slightest bump It feels as if we have little to no control over the vehicle when this is happening. I have taken it in many times but the part is on back over.

Jeep has a seriously dangerous issue when you hit a bump on the highway, other online call it a “death wobble”, extremely dangerous, started happened around 21000 miles on ours. Only way to get it to stop shaken is to stop the vehicle. I have several videos of this occurring and would be happy to send them, this app won’t allow videos to be uploaded. I called the dealer to have the issue looked at, no recall has been issued yet according to our dealer.

When driving at high speeds and hit a bump the vehicle's front suspension starts wobbling and keeps it up till you reduce speed. Not able to drive over 60 MPH, worried the wobble may start from hitting a bump.

Jan 9, 2023

Hit a small bump in the road and the steering wheel and tires began shaking violently. I tried slowing down and the vibration continued until I was below 20mph on highway. Not the first time I have experienced this. I had tires balanced, rotated and pressure checked.

Jan 9, 2023

I was driving on a highway at between 60 & 65 mph, the wheels crossed an expansion joint in the highway and the steering started vibrating and violently and shaking from side to side. It felt like both wheels were bouncing long after I crossed the joint in the road. I almost lost control of the vehicle. I had to slow down and upon doing so the shaking abated.

The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving at speeds exceeding 70 MPH, the vehicle started to shake and vibrate violently. After reducing the speed to 55 MPH the shaking ceased and the vehicle operated normally. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure and indicated that the failure might have been caused by a faulty steering dampener, but the part was on backorder. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 16,000.

On the interstate, my Jeep developed the "death wobble" causing us to have to greatly decrease speed among other drivers. This issue continued after each small bump in the road that we hit at interstate speeds, causing the vehicle to shake violently and requiring me to decrease speed repeatedly among other fast-moving traffic. It eventually required me to have to move over to the slow lane for easy road departure if needed. After an attempted repair with a steering damper at the dealer, the issue returned 1.5 weeks later, and after 2 weeks, my vehicle remains at the dealer while they try to figure out how to correct this dangerous issue.

I have a 2021 Sahara Wranger with only 11,000 miles and is only 16mths old, all stock. On November 11, 2021 is the first time experiencing the so called death wobble. I hit a divot from a recessed reflector that lines the yellow lines in the road. I was going only 55 when I only drove over two, when suddenly my steering wheel and while Jeep started shaking violently. I let my foot off the accelerator , letting the Jeep slow down to under 50 when it finally stopped. It was very frightening to me and my daughter and called the dealership immediately to report the issue and was very nervous to drive it again. After inspection at the dealership I was told they couldn’t find a problem so I took off feeling maybe it was just a freak thing. But then a month later the same thing happened, but this time I was coming down a steep grade around 60mph when there was a small divot that I ran over and again the steering wheel shacking violently and the whole Jeep shaking worse then the first time. I tried not to break and let my foot off the accelerator again, but this time the Jeep wouldn’t slow down by its self because I was going down hill. I thought I was going to loose control of the vehicle and crash. Shaking, I pulled over and called the dealership immediately. I told them I was afraid to drive the vehicle and I wanted it taken care of immediately. I had to have my husband drive it to the dealership for me, because I was to scared. After hours and hours or research on the internet, I don’t understand why this hasn’t been recalled. It is a serious safety issue and needs to be addressed. My Jeep has now been in the shop for three days, and I have not been given and information on what they are doing about it. I have read many many articles on how the dealership will just use a bandaid to fix it and it will happen again. I’m not sure if I can feel safe ever driving it again. This is a band new vehicle and everyone with this 2021 model should be contacted and told about this

Dec 24, 2022

At highway speeds after hitting a pothole, small bump, or bridge transition the vehicle begins to shake violently. The steering wheel, and all front end suspension components will shake violently until the vehicle is slowed back down below 40 miles per hour. This has happened multiple times. Looking online this has been encountered by other motorists and is commonly known as the “Jeep Death Wobble.” This is extremely unsafe because it could cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle. It can also cause an accident because once it happens the driver has to immediately slow down to 40. When this happens in the passing lane/multi lane highway with other vehicles behind it could cause a pile up accident. The driver can’t anticipate when it will happen.

Dec 15, 2022

When on the highway during cold weather the steering will lock up and be very difficult to turn. You have to Fight the wheel all the way to one side for it to unlock, or shut the vehicle off then turn it back on

Dec 6, 2022

In late October I started experiencing a total vehicle body "shudder" when driving on the freeway and hitting uneven paving. This condition started getting worse and worse. The car was unmanagable when travelling at a speed over 58 and hitting uneven paving - the shudder took over the entire car and steering. There was no recourse but to try to safely pull over and stop the car. Upon research I found this is a now COMMON OCCURENCE called the DEATH WOBBLE. Generally it happens in modified Jeeps however my car is les than two years old with less than 16,000 miles on it. When I could finally get time at the dealership I was met with, oh yes we had five new jeeps in here just last week with this condition we are seeing it all the time. The part that is supposed to provide remedy is back ordered by at least three weeks - is this as there as so many incidents?. The dealership told me to take my car home until they had a part. The car is NOT SAFE to drive at any accelerated speed with this condition. There was no prior warning of this condition and nor would I expect it in a new vehicle but upon research I am learning how many people are experiencing this and questioning why there has not yet been a recall. The part offered as remedy by the dealership - the steering damper - has been identified as a "band aid" - and that it is likely the condition will re-occur. This is not acceptable or safe for any new Jeep owner (or any Jeep owner) I urge, no I BEG you, to investigate this "death wobble" condition and strongly consider a recall for the manufacturer before there are serious injuries and deaths caused by this. Having personally experienced this it is a terrifying experience - the entire car feels like it is out of control and everything is going to fall off including the tires and that the axle will break - it makes me never want to drive that car again with any degree of confidence and feeling of safety. I urge you to just google DEATH WOBBLE. Please help

Dec 1, 2022

My 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited has 12,500 miles on it and in October 2022 I noticed that when I drove over 50 miles per hour on the freeway or hit a pot hole the car violently shakes to a point where I feel I am going to crash. I have to step on the brake slow the vehicle down to stop the shaking then I can accelerate. I made an appt to get the vehicle serviced on 11/16/22 that is when I was told the Steering Damper was faulty the dealership had to order the part with no estimated time of delivery. On 12/1/22 the steering damper was replaced. The dealership told me this can happen again. This vehicle is new I have never taken it off-roading, I have only driven it on the roads and freeways. Why would Jeep Chrysler continue to sell Jeeps knowing this issue is happening. Driving on the freeway and braking to stop the vehicle from shaking is extremely dangerous. After extensive research its called the Death Wobble. This is gross negligence from Chrysler to knowingly sell a vehicle that has a reputation of having a death wobble and putting people's lives in danger. I want to know what my options are.

Dec 1, 2022

Experienced what is called "jeep death wobble" at high speeds on the highway. Lost control of steering and vehicle felt like it was coming apart. Would happen anytime I reached 60 mph and hit a bump on the road. Extremely dangerous and frightening. Jeep attempted to fix the problem with steering dampers, but now feels completely unstable when I drive. Also have an open safety recall which they cannot repair until next year when parts are available. I feel unsafe driving this vehicle and want Jeep to purchase it back without a huge loss on my part. I don't understand how a serious safety recall can be issued with no resources to address or repair the problem.

Nov 30, 2022

Since purchase of the vehicle the steering has had a "wobble" after hitting a bump (bridge transition on interstate is most common). The wobble occurs at higher speeds 60-75 mph. The wobble has gotten worse and I would now classify it as the "death wobble" that is commonly reported on the internet forums. It literally shakes the wheel (and front end) so violently that you have to slow down to 40-45 mph to make it stop. It is unsafe to have to brake this hard on a high speed road to stop the vibration of the vehicle. The vibration is violent and observable from outside the vehicle as a trailing vehicle informed me. Also, a young or inexperienced driver may not make the proper decision to address the violent wobble. I have had the vehicle inspected by a local Jeep dealer and they plan to order a new steering stabilizer (amazingly backordered with no committed delivery date). My concern is whether this is a repair or a band-aid. Will this continue to happen? This vehicle had the issue from purchase and it got extremely violent within 22,000 miles. Will I need to take it to the shop for a new stabilizer every 20,000 miles? Would like some facts on what the root cause is and how the stabilizer will permanently fix the issue. Also, why is this not a recall?

Nov 29, 2022

This Jeep is unsafe. The jeep has a problem when you are driving 70 miles per hour on the highway. If you go over a bridge with road bumps or hit a pothole, the Jeep goes into an uncontrollable wobble. I have to slow down to about 40 miles per hour to get the Jeep to stabilize. Suddenly needing to slow down because the jeep feels like it will shake itself apart is incredibly dangerous. We tried to have it fixed at a dealer in Vermont and they said it was fixed but it isn't. I took it to the dealer in Albany NY today where we bought the Jeep and it happened again on the way. They tell me that it might take up to 2 months to get a part - a steering dampener - to fix the problem. This car is unsafe. How can there not be a recall on this issue?

Nov 26, 2022

This is the best explanation I can give you. "The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is looking into complaints about the dreaded “death wobble” in the steering system that some drivers have reported. In short, the steering wheel begins to shake quite badly after hitting a bump at higher speeds. The shaking goes away once the Jeep slows down, but it can be a rather frightening situation for drivers – especially on a busy highway." My Jeep had the "Death Wobble" issue fixed almost a year ago. Right now it is back at the dealership for the 2nd time for the exact same issue. Their service department said it's rare that it occurs a second time but I do not believe them. When picking up my loaner vehicle at Enterprise Rent a Car the representative asked what issue I was having with my Jeep and she replied we are hearing that a lot of people are having that same issue right now. It happened 3 times on a recent trip to Tucson and 2 times on the way back. This time they are replacing the steering damper (again) front shocks and several other parts. It is still under factory warranty.

Oct 11, 2022

Vehicle steering is very sloppy and vague. Vehicle wanders on road, wind blows car out of lane, steering wheel has 5 inches of free play before tires are turned. At 55 mph vehicle went over road imperfection and I lost control of steering for a second - the car seemed to jump in the air.

Sep 22, 2022

Problem is the steering on my 2021 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4X4. Received the vehicle in August 2021 and immediately noticed a problem with its steering. After several visits to the dealership I was told they knew what was wrong that it was something about steering calibration. but they had no way to correct the problem because Jeep had not provided a mechanism for a fix. The best I can describe the steering problem is that there seems to be excessive steering wheel play, and wandering/drifting of the vehicle while driving requiring constant left to right and then right to left steering to keep the vehicle going straight in its traffic lane. The vehicle only has 3,000 miles driven. I am hesitant to drive on any expressway because of the unstable steering.

Sep 7, 2022

This vehicle was purchased new. From day one there has been concern with the steering on the Wrangler. There is excessive play in the steering of about one inch. As a result the vehicle wanders making it difficult to control. This behavior is most notable at speeds between 40 to 70 mph. Complaint has been made to dealership two times. First visit they indicated no trouble found. Second visit they said the behavior is normal. Bottom line; driving this vehicle is a safety risk.

I have just over 27k miles on my jeep. It is a family vehicle and stays on road only. I noticed this last weekend that it is starting to suffer from the classic Jeep "death wobble" when driving on the highway under certain circumstances. Classic "higher speed" "possibly turn on a highway" and maybe the bumps of a bad road or a bridge transition and the front end shimmy's nearly uncontrollably. Was on the way to the dealership to get an oil change already. Asked them about it, he said it'd be nearly a month to get it diagnosed. Did some research, apparently this is an ongoing issue that is getting reported to Chrysler and the NHTSA already with possible "fixes" being replacement dampeners or a new steering box. I don't know what Chrysler will do at this time as the diagnosis date is in the future but... a replacement dampener seems to only bandaid the issue. The real issue is some other fault that wears the dampener down early. Replacing it or upgrading it only hides the fault. I believe they are making progress with the idea that the aluminum steering box stretches and needs to be steel but can't say 100%. What I do know is it's scary as hell when it happens and given that the jeep is already prone to a short wheelbase and higher center of gravity, any high speed steering uncontrollability should be considered critical and not "slowly looked at".

Front End Shakes Very Bad And Gets Worse The Faster You Drive UNKNOWN

Jun 27, 2022

I am now trying, for the third time, to have Jeep dealership resolve a classic symptom of "The Death Wobble" that has manifested for the last year with our under 20,000 mile vehicle. Two hours ago, I encounter a sever episode of a recurring issue with my 2021 Jeep. At speeds above 50mph, the Jeep's front-end will begin to shake violently after crossing the leading edge of a a bridge on the Florida Turnpike. The oscillations which rotate the steering wheel can become violent and will not smooth out for up to a quarter mile. Two dealers have replace steering dampeners and more recently front shocks. The replaced shocks seemed to work but now, less than three two months late, the Death Wobble is back and worse. At the moment of wobbling, the Jeep is not safe. It would be even more dangerous for folks who may be on snow and ice. I have been driving for over 50 years and am also a very good mechanic. My 2021 is the first year of the Hybrid and perhaps the front-end geometry is at issue.

mY jEEP WRANGLER HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT A TOTAL OF 4 TIMES FOR SEVERE SHAKING PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING WHEEL COMPONENT MY CAR SHAKES UNCONTROLLABLY WHEN the car reaches or goes OVER 40 MILES AN HOUR. The whole vehicle shakes including tires and wheels, it has gotten to the point where shaking will not stop at all unless I bring the car to a complete stop. they have made zero attempts to diagnose the car the service department does not even test drive the vehicle at all the miles in when taken to the dealership are the same miles out when I pick up the car I'm terrified I'm going to eventually get into an accident I have no other choice but to drive the car as is my only means of transportation. The fourth repair didn't happen until 6.13.2022 I waited on a part for three months. the part was ordered back on 3.22.2022 an

Car had 7,000 miles when suddenly began a very bad wobble after driving over bumps such as expansion joints at bridges or transitions to change in pavement. Car has begun to drift very badly making it more difficult to continue a straight path. Car wobbles on most road that are not smooth.

May 20, 2022

Driving at approximately 50 MPH, I lost power steering and the indicator/warning lights on my dash, including ABS, were all lighting up or seemingly resetting. I was able to limp it home when I regained power steering about 20 feet from the driveway. So at the moment, it's not possible to observe the issue. Loss of power steering at that speed to a less experienced driver than myself, such as one of my children could have proven catastrophic. I am currently having the vehicle towed to the dealership. There was no prior indicator or warning before the incident occurred. ~ I did a quick search on what the problem could be and found this video on youtube (not mine) which shows almost exactly what happened to my vehicle ... https://youtu.be/Sewnurqrzq4 (I know clicking links isn't always allowed, so what I searched youtube for was "2021 jl loss of power steering and all warning lights on" and the video was the first result uploaded by a user by the name of Robert Ballard. The video name is "2018 Jeep JL Unlimited Rubicon Electrical Issues" and was uploaded Jun 25, 2019. )

1. Road bumps on interstates and highways causing severe death wobble. Vehicle practically uncontrollable until coming to almost complete stop. 2. Inspection found steering stabilizer to not be correctly dampening steering linkages from road bumps or road variations at moderate to high speeds. Manufacturer has had this problem for 3 years and vehicles keep coming from the factory with the wrong bolt installed. 3. This problem almost killed my family while on the Interstate.

Apr 25, 2022

The exact cause on my vehicle is currently unknown, but this is definitely a suspension & steering related issue. There are numerous previous reports of what I have had occur to me "death wobble" multiple times now in Jeep Wrangler forums and YouTube online. We can reproduce with video of the issue. The Jeep forums indicate that it is usually suspension/trackbar/control bar/bushing/or improperly tightened bolts on these suspension areas. I have taken to two different dealerships within a two week period who have inspected these components and not found anything abnormal. The problem occurs when driving at speeds between 45 and 70 mph and driving over a small bump, bridge transition, expansion joint. The entire vehicle begins to shakes violently, including the steering wheel. You can only recover by pulling over to side of road to complete stop. This is extremely dangerous in construction zones, rush hour/high traffic situation. The vehicle has been inspected by two separate Jeep dealerships. Both were aware of the problem being experienced occurring on other Jeep Wranglers, known as "death wobble". Neither dealership found a problem in their inspection. The first dealership could not reproduce on their road test. After getting car back, we drove approx. 30miles on highway and the problem occurred two times in that distance, both times over bridge transitions. We then took to second dealership. The second dealership said they did feel something in the steering, but nothing violent or unsafe during their road test. They are ordering a steering dampener replacement part, but is on back order for 2wks+. There are no warnings or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. My wife and I first started to experience a steering bump at around 20k miles (a couple thousand miles after purchase).

The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the steering wheel began to forcefully shake and the contact lost control of the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to park on the side of the road and turn off the vehicle. The contact stated she was able to restart the vehicle and drive to her destination. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the steering damper to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 17,100.

Steering has play in the wheel. Dealer says it’s a normal thing in the Jeep. At high speeds on the freeway you can move the wheel back and forth about 3-4 inches. The 2021 already has the steel steering box as opposed to the aluminum.

Over the past few months there has been a violent shimmy in the front end when traveling over 65 mph. It occurs when turning or going over bumps at highway speeds. I have demonstrated the local dealer. They have made several attempts to fix the issue without success. They have adjusted the tires, alignment and replaced the front stabilizer as well as checked other front end components. At this point they have washed their hands of the issue. Suggesting that I contact the dealer I bought it from. I wanted to create an official complaint here.

Steering wanders. Vehicle will wobble at high speeds. Vehicle pulls to the right when you release the wheel. Vehicle requires constant steering input, these inputs are unpredictable. Dealership refuses to work on the vehicle “that’s just how these handle”. This issue has existed from the date of pick up, and been to the dealership twice.

Jan 18, 2022

On multiple occasions while driving on the highway the vehicle starts shaking resulting in lost of steering. This is similar to issue described on the internet as "death wobble". Slowing down to 45 mph results in vehicle stopping to shake and control is regained.

Jan 7, 2022

Issue Death Wobble - Traveling at highway speed of 75 MPG hit a transition between roadway and bridge causing the steering wheel to violently shack left to right. Had to slow down to 45 MPH before it to stop. Hit next transition and issue repeated. Called and setup an appointment at the dealership to inspect, as vehicle only has 13,008 miles. Stock vehicle no modifications made to it. Dealership inspected and is replacing the steering damper (Steering stabilizer) as the source of the issue. Apparently known was an issue by the manufacture, according to the dealership. No warning of symptoms prior to failure. This issue puts the occupants in potential risk of injury or death. If loss of control of vehicle occurs and the vehicle crashes or rolls. Fortunately I was able to safely slow down and the issue stopped without incident.

Dec 31, 2021

There have been absolutely no modifications to my 21 Jeep Wrangler JL sport it has never been off road it has the stock tires at the proper tire pressures and I experienced it unbearable wobble at high speeds when I hit a bump AKA death wobble I cannot believe that jeep is still not addressed this problem, it has been ongoing for years with the Jeep lineup and not been addressed this is my first Jeep Wrangler and my first dealing with the death wobble

While driving approximately 35 miles an hour while on E save with max regeneration enabled, the car cut all power, RPM went to zero, service charging system error displayed on dash. Once able to get car off of Road, was able to restart. The Uconnect app does show a charging system fault, once plugged in charging system does charge, per dealer new error codes report to substantiate failure of power.

Nov 16, 2021

Excessive steering wheel play resulting in poor control and wandering while driving. Requires constant corrections to keep vehicle in the lane. Very dangerous at interstate speeds especially when passing other vehicles. I have returned to the dealer and they have no correction for this issue. I see there are many complaints on the internet about this same problem on 2021 Jeep Wranglers. Driving at higher speeds is dangerous!!

Nov 2, 2021

Description: - Recurring on multiple occasions - Multiple lights on the dash come on. They may flash or persist - i.e. engine light, turtle light, crash avoidance light, among others. - The vehicle loses power (it’s a hybrid). This includes the motor and the engine. - The steering is compromised. You cannot steer the vehicle very well during this loss of power. - The vehicle usually will not restart and must be towed in or, in some cases, the battery can be disconnected causing the vehicle to reset and allowing it to begin operating again. This solution can work for a several power cycles or none at all. - When this happens, and you attempt to restart the vehicle sometimes when the power returns you are unable to tell if the vehicle is in neutral, drive, reverse, park, etc. - I experienced a case where the vehicle was in the Run position and the power windows would not open. When it was in the Off position, the windows would open. Perhaps this is intended behavior. - The seatbelt light will stay on even though all passengers in the vehicle are buckled in. It is unclear if this is part of the same issue, but it seems to be. - Systems compromised: Steering, braking, power/engine, seatbelts, etc. Examples of Incidents: - Driving in neighborhood (Safe Location) - Driving at highway speed (Unsafe Occurrence) - Driving on an off-road trail (thankfully with others) (Unsafe Occurrence) - Driving at highway speed - We almost crashed twice trying to get off the hwy. (Unsafe Occurrence) Compounding Safety Issues: - Roadside Assistance didn’t show up after ~7 hours waiting. - FCA’s utter confidence in the repair process is scary to me. - Confidence apparently based on recent software updates to the system, which was installed in a prior visit. The FCA rep wasn’t initially aware the vehicle was back in for service 2 days after installing the latest firmware. - Lack of ability to update software OTA (over the air).

Steering wonders at 55mph or higher. You have to continually correct to keep straight on Highway. I have reported it to Jeep the manufacturer and had it to the dealership and they did not find anything wrong and said that’s the way they drive. I have had three jeeps before this one and by far it’s the worst

Oct 27, 2021

When driving vehicle I’m having to over correct steering I can’t look away for .5 seconds to look in mirrors because car wanders side to side trying to stay in my lane is a nightmare it’s not safe at all

Oct 25, 2021

Jeep constantly drifts and wanders. We were told by the technician “that the steering gear is the updated one already. The tech said it drives straight for a minute then feels a little wander. We will not be able to make it better. unfortunately. there is paperwork from the factory telling us not to replace the steering gear.” This is a safety concern given that the steering is not reacting properly.

Oct 20, 2021

Since we purchased this jeep new it has been plagued with steering wandering and pulls to left or right without warning. It was dangerous to drive and unsafe for my family. After some researched I learned there was a technical service bulletin (8-003-21) for the 2018-2020 JL and supposedly the 2021 had the upgraded steering gear and updated software for the electric power steering. However this really didn't solved the problem and may owners have been complaining about the same unsafe wandering or pulling of the vehicle from left or right. I have take it to the dealer and also called Chrysler direct, so they can open case number (80562177). After 30 days at the dealer the outcome was to increase the tow to +.35 from Chrysler's recommended +.20. It is my understanding both +.35 and +.20 are within the manufacture's recommended specifications. Normally isn't the toe supposed to be near or at zero (0). It seems that setting the toe to +.35 is a band-aid. While the wandering and pulling has decreased I fear this is short term solution and it may cause unseen premature failure of other components.

Oct 8, 2021

The Jeep wanders all over the road, the steering is not stable nor steady. This is a safety issue, nothing I have done has helped the problem.

Sep 24, 2021

Vehicle locked up, no steering, no braking or control while traveling at 40mph nearly causing an accident. Interface said Anti Theft Mode engaged, enter code. This nearly caused a crash and the vehicle was immobilized and had to be towed to dealership. Vehicle has less than 3000 miles on the odometer. This presented a significant safety risk to driver, passengers and other motorists.

Sep 10, 2021

JEEP WRANGLER steering issues! Vehicle wanders right and left does not track straight, the faster you go the worse it gets. There is a constant correction to the steering! Very unsafe at freeway speeds! Dealer says this is normal for a Jeep!

Aug 24, 2021

My 2021 Wrangler steering wheel is loose feeling. When sitting still the wheel has a couple inches of play in it. When driving you are constantly having to turn the steering wheel back and forth to keep the car going straight. When you are turning back and forth it is easy to over compensate and you can go out of your lane. Very annoying. Dealer inspected steering (all tight), alignment (set to end of spec) and said had the newest steering gear. Finally, the dealer says they are all like that. I bought my granddaughter a 2019 and it was horrible. Jeep had a fix with the new cast steering gear and that fixed her 2019. I drove it last night and the steering is much tighter than my 2021.

Aug 18, 2021

Vehicle shut down in middle of road. All lights on dash came on and vehicle became disabled. It repeated it self two more times that week and i finally had it towed to dealer.

Aug 18, 2021

Since new, (leased about a month ago), the steering on this 2021Jeep Wrangler JL-2door has been extremely loose. The vehicle wanders as you drive it, there is a play in the steering wheel and front axle, making it extremely difficult to keep straight on the road. I have to constantly fight the wander with both hands tightly on the steering wheel to keep it from moving into other lanes. Took to the dealer and they said it’s all normal and “all Jeep’s drive that way”. Well, not really. My 2014 Jeep Wrangler JK-2 door handled perfectly on the road. I feel very unsafe driving this vehicle at all times. I’m not the only one complaining about this. Social media is full of similar complaints and some aftermarket companies have even come out with parts to fix this problem. However, the customer should not have to pay to correct a manufacturing problem.

Aug 16, 2021

The component that malfunctioned is the nuts of the ball joints, related to the steering component, upon inspection at the dealer is when they advised that the nuts that hold on to the ball joint had became loose My safety and the safety of my family was put at risk as if this had become fully undone the vehicle would just not be controllable Has the problem was confirmed by a dealer service center The components have been inspected by the manufacturer There was no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and it first appeared June 39th 2021

Vehicle pulled to the right and almost hit a person walking on road. Turned wheel to avoid person and Jeep steering started to wander on the road. Took a few seconds to get vehicle under control. Took to Dealer service department. Technician drove vehicle and said it drives normal and showed no diagnosis codes. No warning lamps or messages were present.

Driving down the road and ALL the warning lights came on at the same time. They were flashing across the dash one at a time. We got a sway bar warning, an airbag warning, check engine light came on and then all of the sudden we lost power steering. It took all my husband's strength to control the vehicle when the power steering went out. We had to maneuver to the side of the road. If I had been driving, I fear what would have happened. We had the vehicle taken to our local dealer. Darcars Chrysler Plymouth and Jeep in Waldorf MD. The service technician there said he had no idea what was wrong and it would take several days to get it looked at. We took to the internet to research our issue. We found over and over people with a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon from model years 2019-2021 having the same issues. The issue turns out to be a problem with the "wiring harness". The Jeep forums online have documented instances of this problem by many, many people. Jeep should be forced to recall these wiring harnesses since they won't do a voluntary recall. This is a dangerous defect. Our vehicle has 6,000 miles on it. Our vehicle is available to inspect at the dealer. Someone is going to die if this defect isn't addressed.

VEHICLE WANDERS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AS WELL AS LOW SPEEDS. REQUIRES CONSTANT "ARMS/HANDS" PRESSURE TO KEEP VEHICLE TRACKING STRAIGHT. TRAVELLING ON A CURVY ROAD REGULARY THE VEHICLE ENDS UP CROSSING OVER THE YELLOW LINES ON OCCASION CAUSING A PANIC FOR ME AND ANY APPROACHING VEHICLE - SO FAR NO ACCIDENT. THE DEALER INSTALLED A PART RECOMMENDED BY JEEP BUT DID NOT FIX ISSUE.

2021 Jeep Wrangler JL, build date 05/2021, apprx 1,000 miles, has the newer steering gear (black) that was supposed to fix the steering issue that Jeep has had since 2019. The Jeep is wandering within lane and requires constant wheel correction to stay within lane. This happens at slower speeds and highway speeds. Steering is overly sensitive. Lane changing requires overcorrection due to the wandering. Difficult to hold straight line. Dealer says nothing is wrong and that's how it is and nothing they can do to fix. Dealer states they cannot duplicate. This is a known issue from FCA on previous years and has continued into some 2021 models. Not being able to drive within the lanes poses a hazard to driver, passengers, and other vehicles on the road. Overcorrection due to extreme sensitivity will create a roll over hazard.

Vehicle has less than 1000 miles on odometer. Wandering, constant steering wheel input needed to keep vehicle on center. Steering feels loose. Have NOT experienced "Death Wobble". Tires/wheels are OEM and of course new. Tire pressures are within OEM door label specs. Lug nuts checked and vehicle raised from ground and checked for obviously loose suspension/steering components; none found. Dealer states normal condition for type of vehicle; I disagree. Dealer has not worked on the vehicle. I have owned several Jeeps over the decades...this is by far the worst for steering issues. Tow and alignment have not been checked/adjusted.

Within a few days of purchasing the vehicle, I noticed that the vehicle moved dramatically to the right and to the left, and the steering mechanism of the vehicle was extremely loose. At 150 miles, I brought it in...the adjusted the steering and aligned the tires. I went on a three hour trip on the highway on April 18th, 2021, Sunday. I nearly crashed into a huge tractor trailer truck because the vehicle swung rapidly to the right and the steering mechanism was so loose, it would not respond sufficiently in time. In addition, the vehicle swings wildly with even mild wind. I managed within inches to swing the car away. I have now brought the vehicle back two more times to the dealership, and they deny any issue. I have provided videos with my spouse driving. My son also drove and found the same issue. The issue occurs both at speeds above 50...and at a speed of 15 miles. This steering column of this vehicle is defective and a true danger on the highway. The manufacturer refuses to take any responsibility in spite of ample knowledge and notice by consumers. Complaints about this issue are all over the internet. We have videos of the defect, which have been provided. I have tried to return the vehicle but they refuse. It has been in the shop 5 of 7 weeks of ownership. The dealership states the vehicle is to manufacturer specifications...this is a serious defect.

PURCHASED 1/3/2021. STEERING WANDER, PULLS TO RIGHT, AND 2' DEAD ZONE IN STEERING WHEEL. DEAD ZONE HAS NO TIRE RESISTANCE IN THE STEERING WHEEL. ALWAYS A NEED TO KEEP A TENSION ON THE WHEEL TO PREVENT GOING TO THE RIGHT. MAIDEN VOYAGE UP THE AZ 87 MOUNTAIN FREEWAY AND SECOND TIME UP AND DOWN THE TWISTY 87 FREEWAY IN ARIZONA SEVERAL TIMES CONSTANT WANDERING. A COUPLE OF TIMES IT FELT AS IF I WAS ABOUT TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE JEEP AT 65MPH. IMMEDIATELY I SLOWED DOWN BELOW THE SPEED LIMIT. I AM VERY FAMILIAR WITH THIS FREEWAY. JEEP PULLS TO THE RIGHT EVEN FROM THE LEFT LANE. YOU CAN SEE THE STEERING WHEEL TURN A FEW DEGREES TO THE RIGHT AS THE JEEP EMBLEM IS NOT CENTER ON. THERE ARE TIMES IN THE DEAD SPOT YOU MOVE THE WHEEL BACK AND FORTH 2' AND IT'S NO RESPONSE. SOME TIMES THE DEAD ZONE IS ALMOST 2' ON THE WHEEL AND SOMETIMES IT'S LESS. DEALER ALIGNED AFTER AXLE REPLACEMENTS UNDER WARRANTY AND THEN 5/10/21 ALIGNED AGAIN. WAS RETURNED TO ME SAYING IT STILL PULLS. I TOOK IT OUT AND IT STILL WAS OFF, BROUGHT IT BACK AND THEY ALIGNED TWICE AGAIN AND IT STILL PULLS TO THE RIGHT. DUE TO GO BACK AGAIN 5/13/2021, TECH CALLING FCA. THAT WILL MAKE 20 DAYS IN THE SHOP WITHIN FIRST 127 DAYS OF OWNERSHIP. MILEAGE 3200. PULLING IS NOTICEABLE ON PAVEMENT OVER 40 MPH AND GETS MORE PRONOUNCED THE FASTER YOU DRIVE AND ON FREEWAYS.

BRAND NEW AND FROM THE START THE STEERING WANDERS AND THERE IS A LOT OF PLAY IN THE STEERING. IT'S A NONSTOP BATTLE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE GOING IN A STRAIGHT LINE AND IT GETS MORE DANGEROUS WITH THE SPEED INCREASES. THE WANDERING WITH THE VERY LOOSE STEERING CAUSES OVER STEERING ISSUES WHICH HAS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CROSS THE CENTER LINE AND GO ONTO THE ROAD'S SHOULDER. TURNING HAS SERIOUS CONTROL ISSUES WITH CONSTANT STEERING ADJUSTMENTS THROUGHOUT THE TURN SO THE VEHICLE IS NOT TRACKING A STRAIGHT LINE THROUGH THE TURN. THIS IS ON CITY AND COUNTRY ROADS, STRAIGHT AWAY AND TURNING THROUGHOUT CORNERS.

I PURCHASED THIS 2021 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2020. IT IS A TOTALLY STOCK VEHICLE WITH NO MODIFICATIONS OF ANY SORT. IT HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN OFF ROAD AT ALL, AND ONLY ON CITY STREETS, HIGHWAYS, AND INTERSTATES, NO ACCIDENTS. WHILE DRIVING ON A NEARBY INTERSTATE IN JANUARY OF 2021, AT ABOUT 77 MPH, A MINOR SEAM IN THE ROAD SENT MY VEHICLE INTO WHAT IS COMMONLY KNOWN AS 'DEATH WOBBLE' MODE. HAD ABOUT 4,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. ON A FIVE HOUR ROAD TRIP, IT HAPPENED OVER A DOZEN TIMES ON THAT TRIP ALONE.I VIDEOED THE CAR IN VIOLENT WOBBLE AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND RETURNED THE CAR FOR ANOTHER DAY OF SERVICE. THE LOCAL JEEP SERVICE CENTER ORDERED A 'STEERING DAMPER' ASSEMBLY AS A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH THE 2021 WRANGLERS COME WITH THAT STEERING DAMPER AS STANDARD EQUIPMENT STARTING THIS YEAR. UNFORTUNATELY, THE PART IS ON AN EXTENDED BACK-ORDER, I AM TOLD, AND WON'T BE AVAILABLE FOR SOME TIME. IN THE MEANTIME, THEY DID A 'ROAD-FORCE' WHEEL AND TIRE BALANCE AS AN INTERIM FIX. ONE TIRE WAS AT 24 LBS, ONE WAS AT 17 LBS, AND THE OTHER TWO WERE AT 10 LBS AND 1 LBS. SINCE THEN THE CAR HAS HAD FEWER, MOMENTARY, WOBBLES OF MUCH SHORTER DURATION, AND HAS RECOVERED QUICKLY MORE IT DOES WOBBLE BRIEFLY AT SLOWER SPEEDS NOW AS WELL. WHILE DRIVING, I CAN FEEL THE SUPPRESSED WOBBLES IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND GAS PEDAL AND AM CONCERNED FOR SAFETY AND CONTINUED WEAR AND DAMAGE TO FRONT SUSPENSION AND TIRES, AND THE FREQUENCY OF HAVING TO DO COSTLY ROAD FORCE BALANCING ON THE TIRES. I LOVE THE JEEP BUT I'VE LOST CONFIDENCE IN THE CAR AT THIS POINT. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO UPLOAD SOME VIDEO OF ONE OF MY CARS DEATH WOBBLES, SHOWING ITS INTENSITY, AND REFUSAL TO SUBSIDE UNTIL DECELERATED TO ABOUT 55 MPH. THE VIDEO EXCEEDS THE SPACE ALLOWED FOR THIS DOCUMENT, SO YOU'D HAVE TO CONTACT ME TO ARRANGE ANOTHER WAY TO VIEW IT IF NECESSARY.

BRAND NEW VEHICLE WANDERS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AS WELL AS LOW SPEEDS. REQUIRES CONSTANT "ARMS/HANDS" PRESSURE TO KEEP VEHICLE TRACKING STRAIGHT. VEHICLES PULLS TO THE RIGHT DESPITE HAVING UNDERGONE 3 ALIGNMENTS NOW AT 3K MILES. 2021 WRANGLER HAS THE UPGRADED STEERING BOX AND WHILE NO DEAD SPOTS ON THE WHEEL, THE RIGHT PULL IS ANNOYING. PLENTY OF UNHAPPY CUSTOMERS. THE FIX WHICH SEEMS TO BE KNOWN AMONSGT JEEP OWNERS IS RELATED TO LONGER LOWER CONTROL ARMS IN ORDER TO INCREASE CASTER SO THE VEHICLE TRACK STRAIGHT.

WHEN DRIVING SLOW OR FAST THE CAR WANDERS AND THERE IS 'PLAY' IN THE STEERING WHEEL. DIFFICULT TO STAY STRAIGHT AND IN ONE LANE WITHOUT CONSTANTLY ADJUSTING.

Feb 21, 2021

A BUNCH OF CODES FLASHED ON MY DASH SCREEN AND THEN STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET I HAD JUST TURNED AND WAS GOING STRAIGHT AT ABOUT 30 MPH. I HAD TO USE EXCESSIVE FORCE TO PULL THE CAR OVER AND TURNED CAR OFF AND ON AND THEN I REGAINED STEERING. ALTHOUGH THE STEERING WAS BACK, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON. I WAS OUT OF TOWN SO I TOOK IT TO A DEALER TO SEE IF IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE 2HRS BACK HOME. THEY CHECKED IT SAID A BUNCH OF CODES CAME UP BUT THEY CLEARED THEM AND DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THEY TEST DROVE IT AND COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM SO THEY SUMMED IT UP AS A COMPUTER GLITCH, AND SAID IT WOULD MOST LIKELY NOT HAPPEN AGAIN AND SHOULD BE FINE DRIVING BACK HOME. IT WAS FINE THE REST OF THAT DAY. THE NEXT DAY AS I'M DRIVING IT HAPPENS AGAIN AND DOES ANOTHER 4 TIMES THAT DAY. 3 DRIVING THRU CROWDED CITY STREETS ONCE I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AT ABOUT 15 MPH, NEXT I WAS AT A STOP SIGN AND THEN I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO PULL INTO A PARKING SPOT. THE 4TH TIME THAT DAY I WAS ON THE FREEWAY HEADING BACK HOME. I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC GOING ABOUT 40 MPH. SAME AS THE FIRST INCIDENT I HAD TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN TO REGAIN CONTROL OF STEERING. AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON.

THE JEEP HAS EXCESSIVE STEERING PLAY AND WANDERS IN THE LANE. WHEN TRAVELLING IN A STRAIGHT LINE, THE VEHICLE REQUIRES CONSTANT AND SIGNIFICANT STEERING CORRECTION. THIS ISSUE BECOMES MORE PRONOUNCED AND DANGEROUS AT SPEEDS ABOVE 60MPH. TWO REPAIR ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN MADE BY JEEP ONLY OF LAS VEGAS, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. THIS VEHICLE HAS THE NEW BLACK STEERING GEAR BOX AND 840 MILES. AFTER THE LAST REPAIR ATTEMPT, THE PROBLEM IS WORSE. VEHICLE IS NOW TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE.

STEERING HAS EXCESSIVE PLAY. SEEMS TO BE MORE NOTICEABLE ON HOT DAYS. THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO DRIFT LEADING TO CONSTANT CORRECTION WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENS AT ALL SPEEDS.

WANDERING STEERING ABOVE 30 MPH WON'T TRACK STRAIGHT, EXCESSIVE PLAY IN THE WHEEL. ORDERED FROM DEALER WENT TO THE SHOP FOR STEERING ISSUES AT 52 MILES AND BACK AGAIN 2 WEEKS LATER, JUST PICKED IT UP FROM THE DEALER AND STEERING IS WORSE, I FEEL IT IS UNSAFE FOR MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER TO DRIVE.
