I have experienced at least five times in which my vehicle does not start and a "service charging system" error message shows on the dash resulting in the vehicle having to be towed to Newport Jeep in Middletown RI for service. Every recall that has been issue has been "fixed"- my hybrid battery has been replaced, my high voltage wire has been replaced. I tried to pursue a buyback request and was rejected in March 2025. I am aware of the 68C safety recall and that there is no repair at this time. Again on 12/9/25 my vehicle would not start, the "service charging system" error message was on the dash and my vehicle has had to be towed back to the dealership. They are not able to diagnose the issue. I want to pursue a buyback as this vehicle is defective and unsafe.

I received the recall of my leased vehicle and I immediately called Chrysler Stelantis and was told that there was nothing they could do. This recall materially restricts the safe use of my leased vehicle. I request early termination of my lease without penalty OR a replacement vehicle. I am a 100% disabled veteran and cannot comply with the recall’s conditions They stated that they will take back my lease but I will be penalized for the early termination and also for any recoupment of the vehicle when it goes to auction. This is unacceptable and has placed myself, my family,, my residence and other vehicles in danger. I cannot abide by the recall.

My Jeep Wrangler 4xe displayed a ‘Service Charging System’ warning immediately after unplugging from charging. I began to drive and noticed the warning right away. I then parked and attempted to restart the vehicle, but it would not start and became completely inoperable. The vehicle had to be towed. The dealer confirmed this issue is related to the current hybrid safety recall, but Stellantis has stated that no repair is available, and it may not be available until the end of the year or the first quarter of next year. The vehicle is undrivable, and I cannot safely use or move it. Stellantis is only offering reimbursement for a rental, which I cannot access because I cannot afford to pay for a rental vehicle upfront. Reimbursement for what could be an unlimited or months-long period of rental fees is not a reasonable or accessible remedy. This leaves me without any safe or practical transportation option. I have now been without transportation for over 48 hours, and the manufacturer is not providing a reasonable remedy or safe transportation while the recall repair remains unavailable. I am filing this complaint so NHTSA can document the delay, the lack of an accessible remedy, and the manufacturer’s failure to provide a safe, timely solution for an undrivable recall-affected vehicle. I own a 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe (VIN: XXX) subject to Recall 68C for the high-voltage battery. Jeep Customer Care advised me in writing not to charge the battery and not to park the vehicle inside or near structures, but could not define a safe distance or provide any specific measurable guidance. I live in a residential community where all parking is adjacent to homes, so these instructions are impossible to follow. FCA also stated they are unable to provide a loaner or alternative accommodation, even though their written guidance effectively removes the vehicle from normal home use. Additionally, FCA repeatedly instructed me to bring the vehicle to a dealership to determine if it is “unsafe to drive,” despite confirming that no remedy exists and that dealers have no diagnostic test or inspection procedure that can detect or reduce the risk of thermal runaway associated with this recall. The dealership cannot change the risk until a remedy is available. I am requesting NHTSA review FCA’s interim guidance for clarity and adequacy, as owners cannot comply with instructions that are vague, contradictory, and not operationally feasible in residential environments. While driving to an appointment on 11 August 2025 the yellow CEL light came on and the Jeep Wrangler 4xe stopped operating in hybrid mode. A few miles later the Jeep went into limp mode with a red turtle, red wrench, and red battery light. Pulled into the left center turn lane to allow faster traffic to pass and then made a left turn off of a busy 4-lane highway. I then proceeded down the hill and at the next traffic light I was turning right when the Jeep stopped and the gas engine completely shut down and the Jeep stopped moving halfway through the intersection. Putting the vehicle in park, I attempted to restart the vehicle while it sat in the middle of the intersection but it wouldn’t restart. I then turned on my flashers and exited the vehicle so I could call a tow truck. After the vehicle was towed to the nearest Jeep dealership I learned two days later that the hybrid battery pack had failed and it needed to be replaced. As of 18 September and the vehicle is still at the dealership awaiting authorization from the Jeep engineering team so the technician at the dealership can order a special part!

Jun 27, 2025

The vehicle experienced multiple serious fuel system failures, including a failed fuel injector and high-pressure fuel pump. After these components were replaced, it was confirmed that fuel was still entering the engine crankcase. At no point did the vehicle trigger a “Check Engine” light, oil dilution warning, low oil pressure alert, or any hybrid/electric powertrain. This represents a critical safety & reliability issue. Fuel dilution of engine oil can: severely degrade lubrication, increase crankcase pressure, and/or lead to internal engine failure or fire The lack of any warning or diagnostic code suggests either: a software calibration issue in the ECM/BCM that failed to detect the problem, a sensor failure, and/or a defect in the onboard diagnostic system itself. This could indicate a broader defect affecting the safety of the 4xe platform and request investigation. This failure delayed necessary service and put both vehicle and occupants at risk.

We have 2 2022 Jeep vehicles with the EcoDiesel engines in them (a Gladiator and Wrangler) that we purchased in 2022. I am filing a case for each of them on this site. In April 2023 there was a recall of the fuel pump on the 3.0 EcoDiesel and to date the problem has not been rectified for either of my vehicles. We have made notification to the dealership that we want to get this done but they say they do not have the parts in stock to do it. The dealership said they only get 1 fuel pump a month to replace and we are waiting and have been waiting for about a year since we notified the dealership for this safety issue to be rectified. I am filing this complaint as directed by the NHTSA website because I feel this issue has not been handled in a timely fashion and I believe that it is irresponsible of Jeep to not rectify this in a much quicker fashion. Each time we call the dealership we are told they do not know when it will be rectified.

While braking (in hybrid mode, with max regen braking on), the car begins to lurch forward with significant force as it comes to a stop. This seems to be an issue with max regen, as acceleration and braking is overall much smoother with the feature off. This has happened sometimes before, but is difficult to replicate on demand. No warning lights on dash, and has not been confirmed by a dealer. There were no warning lights or messages, and has happened since purchase of the vehicle in June 2022. This instance was so severe that the vehicle almost crashed into the house, as i was pulling into the driveway and braking. Upon researching online, others have reported this issue, with some involved in motor vehicle crashes because of it. Clearly a safety issue that requires attention.

Wife was going to work. Started to notice difference in the feel of the drive. Then the check engine light came on. When she started to accelerate the vehicle jerks. When the vehicle is at a stop then accelerates the it takes about 5 seconds for the car to start moving. Today the vehicle turns on but can’t switch gears to put it in reverse or drive. Vehicle is a paper wait and the earliest time I can take in to a certified mechanic is 1 month. I’ve had multiple issues with this car. Death wobble, electric recalls. And a recall that stated part not available park your car not in your garage and don’t charge your hybrid…. How can this car be allowed on the streets with this many issues under 2 years

Nov 20, 2024

This recall has no resolution which is absolutely unacceptable. There is a fire risk for my primary vehicle, and I am unable to charge it - the entire reason I purchased this vehicle at a premium.

Nov 18, 2024

My 4E is currently under recall for a battery/fire issue so have been relying on gas to fill the vehicle. Recently, after pumping gas for 10-15 seconds it shuts itself off at the pump and often gas spills out from the fuel neck. Jeep has had this problem on many of their vehicles for years and it is not covered warranty. There needs to be a safety recall. Its horrible I cant charge the vehicle and now I cant put gas in it either.

Nov 11, 2024

My vehicle has been nearly underivable since purchased. Several times I have taken the car in for things like: No power. The car will drive, but slowly and with no "get up and go". It takes quite a bit of time to get to legal driving speed. This has happened on a highway at least once, and multiple times on regular roads. My electrical system has failed, and all components, including my battery, has shut down. This happened on the highway on my way to work. I lost time at work as well as my car for 34 days. (This is the second time it has happened). My gas tank cover refusing to open/my gas tank refusing to accept gas. My electric battery getting too hot and burning through wires, including my coolant tubes, which in turn, shut my car down. This happened on a major road. All of these things have caused immediate safety to myself and others that have been in my car when it stopped working. I have thankfully been able to get myself off the road in all of these instances without causing an accident. There have been several break downs where I had to have someone come get me, and I have had it towed several times to the dealership as well. I have broken down entirely on the highway several times, slowing to a stop and having people needing to drive around me, or stop to help. I have taken the vehicle in many, many times and have been without my car for over 40 days (if I counted, it would be over 60 days). The dealership has told me it's a 4xe problem, but then lists the problem on paper as various things (coolant leaks, high voltage battery problem). At this point, I am afraid to drive it, as I have 1 active recall with no remedy available and a few alerts. My check engine light came on again this morning with no reasoning behind it, and the Jeep says to check ABS braking system and electrical systems. It's my very expensive daily driver. It has been inspected by two dealerships, with me taking into one dealership at least 12 times for recalls and repairs.

Oct 27, 2024

The manufacturer has not been able to remedy the batteries for electrical propulsion, saying "no remedy available ". Makes me hesitant to drive or park near other vehicles or structures. I have also complained to the dealership, where I purchased my Jeep, about a wobble/shake in the front-end when driving over bumps. After two attempts they have not been able to find a reason for or repair my vehicle. When driving in rain, this condition makes control a dangerous issue in heavy traffic. The most recent occurance was on [XXX] where the posted speed limit is 80mp, accompanied by heavy 18 wheeler traffic! I have also experienced the wobble/shake when traveling [XXX] from Texas to Louisiana, in the rain, surrounded by heavy automobile & 18 wheel traffic once again. This is a very stressful and uncomfortable situation to be in. I have experienced the wobble/shake soon after the purchase of my Jeep, still exists after several mechanical inspections at the dealership where purchased. I have also written a letter to the manufacturer, dated August 22, 2024, for these issues & the devaluation that exists with this particular model, to date I have not received a response! There is no excuse for the inability to repair or respond to my concerns! I have a copy of my letter to Customer Care for Stellantis & recall & repair documents; I am unable to upload at this time. Driving in hybrid mode at approximately 50 mph in moderate traffic. experienced sudden loss of power and decelerated immediately to <5 mph nearly resulting in rear end collision from following truck. navigated traffic at <5 mph and pulled into parking lot. Warning lights included -Service charging system -Check Engine -Battery Warning -Plug Status Fault -Torque Limited Warning Shut down vehicle and towed to Suburban Jeep Ann Arbor. This is the fourth occurrance in approximately 4 months/4,000 miles.

Will pull out into intersection and jeep wrangler 4xe will loss motive power leaving vehicle incoming traffic. I have been waiting for new battery for two months but the dealer said it was safe to drive. It is a dealership for loss of motive power.

Oct 4, 2024

While driving down the highway at speed, vehicle lost power and the a check engine light. I had to immediately exit the highway, shift to park, and shut down the vehicle. Once restarted, vehicle operated normally, but with the check engine light on. Computer scan shows code U0293 "Lost Communication with Power train Control Module".

Vehicle has a recall on it for the high pressure fuel pump. I have been told by the dealership this part is on back order and can take 12 months before they can fix the High Pressure Fuel Pump. I called a second dealer ship and they also told me it could take 3-12 months before they could fix it due to limited supply of the part. DMV will not give me my car tags until this recall is remedied.

22’ JEEP 4xE LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER Vehicle wouldn’t start for approximately 15 minutes. Showed charging system error and a battery light was on. Once vehicle started it was driven 5 minutes, parked and turned off. Within 30 minutes it was started again, and driven down the street when it lost power and indicated the speed was limited. I attempted to turn around to get back and park it when it quit in the middle of an intersection. Vehicle had a message to put it in park. I did. It wouldn’t restart or go into neutral to even push it out of the road. After about 10 minutes it started and I drove it back. It kept losing throttle and rolled opposite direction down a hill while in gear and still running. The throttle intermittently would work and rev then move forward. I backed it uphill into my driveway with it continued to roll forward and then rev the engine and reverse. When it losses power to the pedal it doesn’t rev the engine and will roll. Instrument panel and lights/entertainment still work when it does this. Mine and my children’s safety were put at risk. We called the dealer where we purchased from ‘Orangeville Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram - 207163 Highway 9 East, Orangeville ON L9W 2Z7’ was told to bring it in. I said it was extremely dangerous and unsafe to drive. I asked for them to have it towed in and they refuse to pay for the towing. We mentioned a query into safety recall 22V-865 by ODI we found but they stated it was unknown to them and VIN didn’t show an open recall. We are without a vehicle as it sits in the driveway presently. (incident may be related) In nov 2023, about 9 months prior to this my [XXX] daughter was driving with my 9 and 11 y/o in the back seats and went into a ditch, damaging the front passenger fender, front bumper and hood. She mentioned something happened to the car and she lost control. There was no police report for this. There were engine lights on. We called a tow to get it out. The engine light went away on it own. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFOR

We ordered in April 2022, a 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Sahara plug-in hybrid, arriving late May 2022. In mid-June 2024, when starting the Jeep, it went into "limp" or "safe" mode. The Samsung EV battery was fully charged, indicating a 99% charge available, which translates to an approximate 24 mile range on the EV motor. The check engine light (CEL) came on as well as a "charging system failure" message came on in the center of the message center. The Jeep dealership in Temecula, CA, received the Jeep, which would only operate on the Internal Combustion Engine, and even then at 50% of available power, with the a/c system non-operable. The Internal Combustion Engine would not respond to throttle input, where it would not start (from engine off mode) more than a dozen times while en route to the Jeep dealership. It was unsafe being at the front of a long-line of cars when a light turned green and then applying the throttle, nothing happened, where we very nearly got rear-ended on multiple occasions. The DCH Temecula dealership who is servicing the Jeep advises the Samsung EV battery had an internal failure and requires replacement. The Samsung EV battery is on order or in transit/shipping, has not arrived. We have been without the Jeep approaching a month. In addition to our concern for this happening to others, we are really concerned about this being a recurring issue and problem.

My vehicle has a recall for the High pressure fuel pump. While driving the engine light and cruise control light will turn automatically and then go away consecutively. Yes, the issue has been confirmed and inspected by the manufacturer and the dealership in which I purchased my vehicle. The vehicle will stall when running or randomly turn off and smell like smoke. I have made 3 appointments in which the dealership will advise me to drop my vehicle off and once I arrive they tell me they do not have the parts. I called the manufacturer and they advised they receive the parts every 7 days. I have contacted the dealership and I will not get a response. I'm scared for my safety and others. The contact stated she would appreciate a response and assistance with a recall for the vehicle.

I am writing to express my serious concern regarding the safety recall initiated by FCA US for the Jeep Wrangler 4xe. This recall, which pertains to an internally failed HV battery, poses a significant safety risk to vehicle occupants, bystanders, and property. As stated in the summary provided by FCA US, an internally failed HV battery in the affected vehicles could lead to a vehicle fire, regardless of whether the ignition is on or off. This presents an alarming safety hazard, as a vehicle fire not only increases the risk of occupant injury but also poses a threat to individuals outside the vehicle and can result in substantial property damage. While it is commendable that FCA US has initiated a voluntary safety recall to address this issue, the proposed remedy raises several concerns. The instruction for customers to refrain from recharging these vehicles and to avoid parking them inside buildings or structures, or near other vehicles until the final repair is completed, is deeply troubling. This instruction places an undue burden on affected vehicle owners, as it significantly disrupts their daily routines and raises questions about the practicality and feasibility of implementing such precautions. Furthermore, it fails to provide a comprehensive solution to mitigate the risk of vehicle fires effectively. Moreover, the solution is completely ineffective as it puts the liability back on the customer since FCA will not deem the vehicle inoperable. This refusal to acknowledge the severity of the safety risk and to take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of vehicle occupants is unacceptable. I urge thorough investigation by NHTSA into the root cause, that they ensure transparent communication by FCA, and accountability for FCA's inadequate response. Failure to address this promptly endangers lives and property. Please prioritize this critical issue.

Feb 3, 2024 Crash

I was stopped at a red light with my foot on the brake, and had been for at least 30 seconds. The jeep all the sudden revved and started moving forward. I continued to push on the brake but the jeep didn't stop. I attempted to turn the jeep to the right to avoid the car in front of me, but was unable and slammed into the back of the car. Despite my foot being on the brake the jeep continued to rev even after I hit the car. I put the jeep in park and it stopped revving. A police report was filed. There was damage caused to the car in front of me. The jeep has not been able to be taken to the dealership yet for inspection.

Engine speed became limited while driving and abruptly slowed down to 10 MPH while driving on the streets almost causing an incident for myself and others. Once car was stopped loud noises would come from Hybrid cooling system as if it was overheating upon start up. Dealer confirmed inspection and fixed hybrid cooling system which was covered under warranty. 3 weeks later after fix, vehicle engine light came on again and car had to be in service for another warranty issue connected to the fuel line. No warning lights, messages or symptoms of problems before incident happened. My family and I are terrified from the first incident and the 2nd engine light coming on only a few weeks later has confirmed our concerns that jeep has made a faulty product and these vehicles should be recalled.

Nov 21, 2023

I was going approximately 60 mph on MN Highway 100 S in the far right lane, driving with a half full tank of gas and <1% battery in “hybrid” mode, when suddenly and error message saying “service charging system” error appeared in red on the driver console and all engine acceleration stopped working. The vehicle then displayed a message to shift to P to start the engine. But it wouldn’t let me shift to P while going 50+ mph. I managed to coast to a relatively safe area on the shoulder of the highway with minimal disruption of traffic, bring the car to a full stop, and restart the engine. However if I had been in the far left lane of the highway instead of the far right, or in a section without a safe shoulder, this event could have been the start of a major accident, endangering myself and many others. The spontaneous total loss of driving power in the 4xe is an inexcusable public safety risk. I know there has been a previous recall for a different issue that also produced this effect. This issue must also be fixed.

Aug 26, 2023

No issues yet, but no dealerships have any information regarding the timing or availability of parts from FCA to replace faulty high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) for the diesel Wrangler JL 2022.

Aug 18, 2023

In April 2023 I was advised via a letter from Mopar of an important recall concerning the “High Pressure Fuel Pump” in my 2022 Jeep Wrangler. The correspondence warned that a failure of the fuel pump could result in a catastrophic crash without prior warning. The letter also indicated that “a remedy for this condition is not currently available”. Having not heard from the manufacturer for several months after receiving the recall notice, I contacted the recall hotline in July to request an update. The agent I spoke with indicated that parts to address the recall are not yet available, and she was unable to provide me with an estimated timeframe for the repair. The lack of a remedy, despite the implied severity of this recall, leaves me deeply concerned with the safety of my car. I rely on my vehicle for daily transportation and feel as though I’m taking a risk driving it. The car is less than one year old and has only 6378 miles on the odometer.

I was driving on the highway at a speed of 70 miles and suddenly I lost total control of my vehicle I lost my engine and without electricity nothing worked I was close to having an accident

Mar 21, 2023

DRIVING IN THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MILES AN HOUR. ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE CAR START SLOWING DOWN UNTIL THE GAS PEDAL WAS DOING NOTHING.I HAVE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE ROAD AND TURN THE CAR OFF. AND AGAIN MULTIPLE TIMES TO GET THE GAS WORK AGAIN.

Electric Mode Temporarily Unavailable.

Jan 6, 2023

Most importantly, this occurred about 7 days AFTER the NHTSA 22V-865 recall for this issue was performed. Driving rural paved road at approximately 35 mph. Vehicle abruptly lost all motive power and went to electric only mode with a top speed of about 3-4 mph showing a red turtle icon on dash and “Service Hybrid Electrical Vehicle System” and “Service Charging System” messages. After stopping to investigate, vehicle could not be shifted out of park or moved. Vehicle required tow for repair A few hours before this occurred, vehicle experienced two short intervals of similar loss of power, both of which abated within less than a few seconds. Most concerning is that this occurred after recall 22V-865 was performed, indicating that the safety issue is unresolved by that recall or is an independent issue. Total and unanticipated loss of power creates a safety issue in our hilly and populated terrain.

Dec 9, 2022

Driving on the interstate with Adaptive Cruise Control on at 72mph the vehicle loss power. Error message appeared, "Performance limit pull over put in p and start " plus "service charging system". Vehicle quickly decelerated and luckly I had a place to pull over out of traffic. I then restarted the vehicle without issue.

Dec 8, 2022

Engine shut down condition caused by diagnostic reactions to faults caused by communication of the car. Motive power has been lost while driving. The vehicle has not been inspected by police or any authority. I have contacted manufacturer and dealership and they have not offered any options since this is a recall issue that has no solution or parts available they told me to wait it out. Therefore I am now paying for a car that is not safe to drive and these concerns have not been fixed or addressed by manufacture.

12/03/2022 Was backing up. Went to put the vehicle into DRIVE to move forward. Vehicle locked itself into NEUTRAL on the gearshift, but acted as if it was in PARK. Was blocking a road, could not move or shift into gear. Eventually, was able to shift into "auto-stick" M1 and move the vehicle, then it went into DRIVE. Was able to proceed as normal.

Oct 19, 2022

Brand new 2022 Wrangler Sahara 4xe randomly stalled in traffic. There was about 450 miles on the vehicle. This happened about 2 weeks after I purchased the vehicle. I've seen that others have been having this issue and there's even a lawsuit regarding this. I had two passengers in the car with me and I was driving at night with a line of cars behind me down a windy road and could have caused a pile up. When I first got in the car, the pure gas range was around 135 miles. I put the car in electric and drove for about 3 minutes till I arrived at my destination. Right after I put the car in park, the low fuel sign came on but there was still around 126 miles left of gas so I was very confused. I drove for another 5 minutes and this time the fuel dropped down to 34 miles. So within a matter of minutes, I lost 100 miles in gas range. I went to fuel the car and when I turned it off and on, the low fuel sign disappeared and the car was back to 126 miles of gas range before I even put any additional fuel into it. I figured this was just a fuel sensor issue and ignored it. After I added fuel, it drove fine for 30 minutes or so and then as I was driving home, I noticed that the car seemed to just suddenly slow down and I got a warning sign to put my car in park and turn it off and on. I was able to pull to the side but I noticed that on the side where you can choose between, electric, hybrid, and e-save, all of the options were not lighted. It appeared as though the engine had stalled. Once I restarted the car, it ran fine. I do not believe I received a check engine light or any other warning signs except for the car telling me to restart and once I did, everything went away. Some folks on the 4xe forum said to check the fusebox and 90% of the fuses were loose or not seated properly. However, this should not be related to the fuel sensor issue. Brought it to a dealership and they said nothing was wrong with it and no codes came up.

Aug 1, 2022

Vehicle excessively started leaking fluid from the front end of the vehicle. The car then reported a message on the dashboard "transmission hot", thus explaining the fluid. Transmission fluid was leaking from the pan excessively. Dealership stated there was a recall on the water sealant, however I do not see any recalls on the website. They seem to be making a false claim on recall. Perris Valley Jeep Center, City Perris CA

While coasting or braking, message appears stating Performance limited service fuel system. Fuel economy is affected, as well.
