After owning this car for about 3 years now I had the ICCU blow out on me at 53k miles right before thanksgiving. This prevented my car from Level 1 / Level 2 charging and would no longer keep the 12v battery charged. this made the car drive at limited speed as the 12v would drain. I had previously taken the car to get the ICCU recall early in the year and obviously that "software fix" did prevent this from happening. How am I supposed to reliably drive this car unless KIA/Hyundai actually redesigns the ICCU? This is something that needs a permanent fix or at the least a lifetime warranty coverage.

Jan 7, 2026

Bought this car in 2022 and had no problems until 1/2/26. Car was charging at home and suddenly stopped. Got a check electrical system warning light. Took it to the dealer to get checked out and the ICCU needs to be replaced. Despite everything online saying that it is covered on the 10 year/100,000 EV warranty, they are denying that it is covered under warranty. They say it is covered by the basic 60,000 mile warranty which I am a whopping 8,000. There has been multiple recalls on the ICCU, all software because Kia can't be bothered fixing their bad designs. Getting rid of this junk car and never buying a Kia again as I will not trust my life and safety with such a horrible company that doesn't care one bit about it's customers.

Could not charge car. It kept saying Charging Interrupted. The failure was the ICCU

Jan 2, 2026

I bought my Kia ev6 new in October 2022, I have had problems with the charging system. I had the ICCU replaced on 9/12/2024 60,488. I just had to have it towed to the dealership because the same issue came up on 1/2/2026 92,943. It went into check electric system and pull over, then went into limp mode got it pulled over to the side of the road and it died. Dealership has it now and will give updates. I don't charge at DC only charge at home on a level 2 charger.

Dec 30, 2025

Heard a loud pop while driving , and then car immediately showed an electrical failure message and went into turtle mode. Diagnosed by dealer as an ICCU issue

Dec 28, 2025

Upon connecting a level 2 charger, I heard a loud POP, then the dashboard said charging failed, check Electrical system. From then on, the car would not be able to charge on level 2. The dealership determined that it was an ICCU failure, which is very well documented and experienced by owners in online forums. In my situation, no one was put at risk, however many owners have reported it happening while they were traveling at highway speeds. When this happens at highway speeds, it causes the car to slow down immediately, which is extremely dangerous. The part number of the ICCU is the same as the original, which means it's still the same part that could fail at any time. My car has been updated to the latest recall software to motivate the ICCU failures but it still happened to me. Please put pressure on Hyundai and Kia to fix this issue and recall all ioniq 5s and ev6 models

Dec 24, 2025

ICCU fail at 58,000 miles. + the front fuse under the front seat. Rendered the car immobile and drained the 12 volt battery. Dealer replaced the iccu and fuse but refused to replace 12 volt, saying that it is covered up to 36k miles. They said ir can just be recharged. But since there repair took a long time, the battery was sitting fully discharged all this time. After that sitting period it would not charge back. So the fault resulted in a week of covered repairs and an extra 12 volt battery cost on an ev, not covered by the dealer.

Dec 23, 2025

The ICCU failed in my car while attempting to charge the vehicle while at home in my garage. This component has a known history of failure while driving and now that it has been replaced with an identical unit, I fear for my safety while driving since I live in a remote area and rely on the car for transportation in sub-freezing temps and winter conditions. While the dealer has replaced the ICCU, there is no acknowledgement from the manufacturer that the failure mode of this component has undergone any redesign or improvement to warrant trust that it will not happen again. It is a ticking bomb.

Dec 23, 2025

The ICCU charge control unit for Kia electric vehicles that immediately depletes the 12v battery & significantly reduces motive power forcing you to pull over with no countdown to how long one has in terms of distance or duration. This uncertainty is absolutely unsafe as you cannot know how long it is safe to keep driving before the vehicle ceases to move. This ICCU failure has been affecting several 2022 onwards Kia vehicles & even replacing this component does not guarantee this failure will not recur & needs serious action & accountability to Kia.

Dec 23, 2025

While driving, the car all of a sudden lost power - forcing me to pull over. If this were to happen while on the freeway, a crash would have been imminent. This is a known issue with kia/Hyundai EV's where the ICCU fails and causes the vehicle to lose power suddenly.

Dec 22, 2025

My ICCU failed while I was driving and I lost power while in a light controlled intersection in Chicago. The screen turned off and I could not see my speedometer or any driving information. I luckily was able to roll to the side of the road and park the car. My car could not change gears, doors would not work, trying to jumpstart the 12V did not work.

Dec 22, 2025

The electrical system failed (dashboard warning light appeared while in park) and then a pop was heard (fuse bursting). Car could not safely drive. Dealer confirmed ICCU failed once checked at dealer. No prior warnings noticed and no issues charging with approved systems leading up to the failure.

Dec 20, 2025

Started car. Heard a pop in the back seat area and then an error message appeared on the dash.

Dec 13, 2025

I had an ICCU failure. There were no warning lights . The dealership initially could not find the problem but when I brought it back again they did confirm the ICCU failed and replaced it. Failure of this causes the car to stop driving and lose power causing you to stop on the road as well as be unable to charge the car.

Dec 5, 2025

In November 2024, my 2022 Kia EV6 became suddenly non-drivable due to electrical failure consistent with a repeat ICCU/12-volt system malfunction. The vehicle would not start or maintain normal electrical power and became stuck in accessory mode, creating a loss of propulsion and complete loss of transportation. This vehicle previously experienced an ICCU failure earlier in 2024 that required dealership repair and battery replacement. After that repair, the vehicle again developed electrical failure symptoms, including loss of 12-volt power and inability to operate. Due to the unsafe non-drivable condition, Kia Roadside Assistance directed and arranged a tow to a Kia dealership. Upon arrival at the dealership, new undercarriage and wheel-well damage was documented within approximately 90 minutes of drop-off. This damage was not present prior to towing and is located where tow equipment attaches. The vehicle remains in the possession of the dealership and is available for full inspection. The electrical failure created a safety risk because the vehicle became immobilized without warning and could not be safely operated. There was no advance notice or driver-caused event. The failure resulted in complete loss of vehicle function. The vehicle has been inspected by a Kia dealership, and I have been working through Kia corporate and roadside providers since the incident. The vehicle remains out of service with unresolved electrical issues and unresolved damage resulting from the manufacturer-directed tow.

Not charging on Level 1, Level 2 chargers, only level 3. ICCU problem confirmed by dealer diagnostic even after recall software update was installed.

Nov 21, 2025

MY DRIVERSIDE FRONT DOOR WON'T OPEN, WHEN DOOR IS UNLOCKED, BOTH OUTSIDE AND INSIDE HANDLE WONT'T OPEN THE DOOR. YOU HAVE TO CLICK ON THE UNLOCK/LOCK BUTTON 15-20 TIMES TO GET THE DOOR OPEN. ALL THE OTHER 3 DOORS WORKS FINE.

Nov 19, 2025

My 2022 Kia EV6 developed a serious electrical/MCU malfunction on 10/19/2025 at approximately 64,300 miles. While driving, the vehicle began to stutter during acceleration, all driver-assistance and safety systems disabled (LKAS, collision avoidance, lane keeping), and the vehicle could not accelerate normally (topping out around ~60 mph when fully pressing the pedal). The Kia Connect app displayed fault codes MCU P0A4100 and LKAS C164286. The malfunction recurred immediately after a dealer visit on 10/20/2025. The vehicle has since been inspected by Huffines Kia in Corinth, Texas, but no confirmed diagnosis has been provided, nor have they notified me of dropping/reconnecting the HV battery. On 11/18/2025, a new fault code appeared: MCU P0C1700. This failure affects the high-voltage electronics/MCU and causes sudden loss of acceleration capability and complete disabling of active safety systems while the vehicle is in motion, placing me and other drivers at risk. The issue is reproducible, continues to occur, and the vehicle remains at the dealership. I am requesting NHTSA review of this electrical/MCU malfunction as a safety-related defect.

Nov 10, 2025

The ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) failed while the vehicle was charging at my home. It tripped the 60A circuit breaker for my EVSE circuit and now my EVSE is inoperable. The vehicle no longer charges via AC (Level 1 or Level 2) at any charging station. Attempting to charge the vehicle triggers a safety fault error on the EVSE indicating an electrical problem with the vehicle. Additionally, attempting to use the V2L (Vehicle to Load) adapter on the vehicle causes audible arcing sounds from the ICCU accompanied by a "Check Electrical System" message on the vehicle's display. These symptoms indicate a complete failure of the OBC (On-Board Charger) circuit inside of the ICCU. The arcing is most likely coming from a failed MOSFET. The ICCU has been recalled twice in this model, however it is clear that the software update "remedies" are not satisfactory. I had the most recent recall campaign SC327 completed during the month it was released in November 2024, yet it still failed only a year later. Reports of ICCU failures are constantly being posted online from "remedied" Kia EV6 vehicles. Software cannot fix a hardware design fault. The part should be redesigned to correct the cause of the defects and, if Kia doesn't want to replace every ICCU with new hardware, the warranty on the ICCU should be extended to unlimited miles and 15 years.

The contact owns a 2022 Kia EV6. The contact stated that the electric vehicle battery failed to charge during level one or level two charging. The vehicle was driven to the local dealer, who diagnosed that the Integrated Charging Control Unit had malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V867000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 81,300.

Sep 30, 2025 Crash

Prior to midnight on 9/25/2025 I stopped at a Sheetz in Stephen"s City , Va to charge my 2022 Kia EV6. Upon pulling into the charging area I discovered construction fencing around the area with the chargers removed. I then drove to the other side of the store and parked next to the building to take advantage of the lighting as I scanned my phone app for alternative chargers in the area. SUDDENLY, within the blink of an eye, my car lunged forward at MAXIMUM speed. It came to a sudden stop , prior to hitting the glass and brick wall of the building. I was stunned. My first reaction was to try to go into reverse to back away from the building and then I noticed people coming toward me. I rolled the window down and heard them ask if I was ok , if I needed help calling 911, and then they began to insist that I climb down out of the car as they feared it would catch on fire. I did not understand what they meant initially, until I realized I was LOOKING DOWN at them. With assistance, I got out of my car and realized it was impaled upon the metal barrier post located in the middle , front of the parking space. The local sheriff dept responded and after putting me through all the DUI tests/exercises realized that I , indeed , was sober and not responsible for the incident. The deputy called Clem's Garage/Towing who arrived 30-45 min latter with a standard tow truck - I tried to explain that tugging at my car from the rear would not release it from the pole ( the rear of the car pointed toward the pavement while the front pointed toward the sky) and that continuing to tug would only do more damage (I wanted to prevent my car further damage). He eventually called another company who arrived with a large crane-like vehicle that lifted my car off the pole. The top portion of the pole was missing and apparently stuck in my car . My car was then towed to Clem's holding yard.

Jul 27, 2025

ICCU failed while charging using Level 2 charger. Dealer still has my vehicle and issue was diagnosed.

Jul 15, 2025

Car stopped functioning while driving, stopped completely in the middle of the road, a warning "Check electric vehicle system" showed up on screen.

Jul 14, 2025

July 2023: Vehicle brought in for first ICCU recall/ICCU SW Upgrade May 2024: Vehicla brought in for second ICCU recall June 2024: repeated 12 volt battery failure, 12 volt battery replaced, Car was stuck in a parking lot and needed to be jumped. July 2024: ICCU Failure, resulting in ICCU replacement. This took place after 2 recalls. ICCU failure luckily happened in a safe location. December 2024: Receive Recall Notice for a continued ICCU defect February 2025: Vehicle brought in for third ICCU recal - this time after ICCU replacement. The Recall notice described the possibility that the ICCU could fail while driving, even at high speeds. Leaving the vehicle stuck with no power or even hazard lights.

Jul 8, 2025

The 12-volt battery has failed twice and was ultimately replaced. Additionally, the ICCU unit was replaced once. The vehicle has now returned to the shop for the same recurring issue, as the 12-volt battery either fails to hold a charge or is not charging properly. Most concerning, the vehicle stalled while in motion, creating a serious safety hazard, as it was not possible to activate the hazard lights, leaving occupants in a potentially dangerous situation.

Jun 30, 2025

The instrument cluster screen went black for no reason. Cannot see speed, turn signals do not work, do not know about any instrument issues, and blind spot camera doesn't work.

Jun 13, 2025

Got error message "Check Electrical vehicle system" when I was driving on 06/03/2025. After driving few miles, then get other error message on dash - "Stop Vehicle and check power supply". After restarted the car, drove few miles and got the error message again. Luckily I got back home with my kids safely. When the tow truck came to take my car to dealership next morning 06/04/2025, the car started, but it died on the middle of the road when trying to drive up the tow truck. The tow truck had to drag my car up instead. If the car suddenly died in middle of highway on 6/3, it would be different story. After almost a week in the Kia shop, It was ICCU assembly and fuse issue on Kia Ev6 and they had to replace it on 06/07/2025 and the car was fixed and picked up on Monday 6/9/2025

Jun 3, 2025

I am reporting a failure of the ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) in my 2022 Kia EV6. The vehicle became inoperable within weeks of purchase and has remained at a Kia dealership for over six weeks. The failure caused the vehicle to suddenly lose power and become undriveable, which is a serious safety concern. This issue appears to be widespread among EV6 owners. Despite the issue being covered under warranty, Kia has not provided an acceptable resolution. I believe this failure presents a risk of sudden vehicle disablement and should be investigated for safety-related recall potential.

May 31, 2025

Attempts to charge with home level 2 charger were unsuccessful, both at home and at a public charger. Reduced the charging speed using the car’s settings without success. Dealer reports a failure of the ICCU requiring replacement. This is apparently the subject of a class action lawsuit.

May 22, 2025

ICCU FAILED. Warning that I needed to stop driving the car This happened while driving on an interstate highway. Car would move at 25mph max.

May 13, 2025

My 2022 Kia EV6 has repeatedly shut off while parked and while in motion, placing myself, my [XXX] child, and other drivers at serious risk. The vehicle’s Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failed and was replaced, but the replacement ICCU also malfunctioned. This second failure caused a near-collision involving three vehicles. A Ford F-150 had to swerve off the road to avoid hitting me. The most recent incident occurred while dropping off my son, when the vehicle lost all power in traffic. Kia later confirmed that they could not guarantee this issue would not happen again. This statement came after I notified them of the near-accident and the ongoing shutdowns. Despite this, Kia has refused to buy back the vehicle or provide a safe resolution. The vehicle has been out of service for over 30 cumulative days and has undergone two ICCU replacements and one 12V battery replacement. Kia issued a recall notice for the ICCU in December 2024, but the issue persisted even after recall servicing. The defect has been inspected and confirmed by Kia dealerships, and all repair documentation is available. There were no warning lights or alerts before shutdowns. The system fails randomly and without warning, making the car unpredictable and unsafe to operate. This is an ongoing, unresolved issue that poses a danger to myself, my child, and the general public. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Apr 30, 2025

While driving a warning about battery and electrical sysytem failure. Vehicle would not drive more thsn 10mph. I was able to limp home about 1 mile away where the car died. Could not restart with a jumper battery.

Apr 28, 2025

Once again, the ICCU on the car failed requiring intervention / towing. This is the second outage of the ICCU. This issue happened in early April 2025 (April 8th I believe). My car was parked at work. I entered my car after work and turned on the car. I heard a pop from the rear passenger side identical to the issue as it had happened last January (2024). Shortly thereafter, the check electrical system warning came on. I briefly attempted to drive car to move it to where would likely be an easier spot for the purposes of towing (one parking lot over that is not gated). During that brief drive (roughly 1/4 of a mile), the car immediately began issuing warnings requesting that I pull over and stop. I entered the nearby parking lot and parked the car where it was towed the next day to the dealership.

24V200 KIA recall is not being upheld by the manufacturer. they are only performing recall in a small subset of customers - hundreds if not thousands are being fobbed off (by JUST doing software updates) even when having to be towed in 4 or 5 times. In my case i have been towed 4 times. one of the times by power failed with little warning - the other 3 times it would not start in the morning - the car does not give many minutes/miles of wanring as recommended by NHTSA to allow driver to pull over safely. THIS WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT CRASH - it is just a matter of time. in my case kia is refusing to replace ICCU even though my vehicel is covered by the recall and has lost power 4 times - this is a scandal.

Apr 3, 2025

ICCU failure, no time line for replacement Car at dealer for over a month

Mar 25, 2025

After charging vehicle using L2 charger, (max 7kw) vehicle threw two error messages on screen. 1) “check electrical system” & 2) “stop vehicle and check power supply” Using an OBDII reader, the car provided error code P1A9096. I also noticed the car stopped charging the 12V battery as the 12V state of charge was down to 22%. I towed it to the dealer and they are currently working on diagnosing the issue.

Mar 19, 2025

Regarding NHTSA Recall No. \/ MFR Recall No. : 24V-867 \/ SC327, I have contacted Kia America by email who is avoiding to take action in rectifying the SC327 defect. From March 11th to March 15th 2025 I have emailed Kia several times to address the issue of my Kia EV6 car, the lack of response from their side compels me to lodge a complaint with you. Please intervene in my case with Kia. Below is the latest correspondence from Kia.

Mar 7, 2025

I was leaving a parking space when I heard a pop in the right rear of the vehicle. I merged in to traffic and drove stop and go for about three blocks when a warnning message appeared on the dash saying that there was an electrical issue. I've been following this issue on various model specific forums so I was sure what had happened and knew that I had to get off the road quickly. I was able to find an open parking lot and immediately called for KIA roadside assistance. By the time the tow truck arrived all electrical systems were dead. It was towed to the dealer and the next day I was informed that diagnostics determined that the vehicle had a failed ICCU (Integrated Charge Control Unit). This vehicle has had the recalls that addressed this issue with software updates.

Mar 1, 2025

My wife was driving my vehicle and it alerted her that she needed to pull over while driving. She managed to get out of traffic but was stranded on the side of the road while waiting for a tow truck. I completed the recall SC327 and it was performed but still had an ICCU failure. Dealer has not repaired it and is waiting on a part but they say it is on back order and has not given me a timeline for repair.

Feb 26, 2025

ICCU failed for a second time in 18 months, and the car has been waiting at the dealership for the replacement ICCU to arrive for 4 weeks - as Kia says the part is backordered. The recalls (of which they are now on their third, I believe) were supposed to have addressed this issue and prevented ICCU failure. Car was backing out of the garage on the morning of January 30th when the dashboard began showing alerts - "Stop vehicle and check power supply". Had the vehicle towed to the dealership where ICCU failure was confirmed. As mentioned, this is the SECOND time the ICCU has failed in our Kia EV6 - it was replaced once before already in July of 2023. This tells me that the issue is either far more common than the reported 1% failure rate or that there's some connection between how one uses or charges the car and the likelihood of failure. Either way, Kia doesn't seem to have any idea how to solve for it. First time our ICCU failed, the part was also backordered then and it took six weeks. How they can not have these parts readily available in the midst of an ongoing recall related to said part is truly frustrating.

Feb 20, 2025

Once the car was turned on, multiple electrical system warnings appeared. My battery was charged to 82%. Once brought to the Kia dealership, I was told that my ICCU needed to be replaced. My ICCU was already replaced once in 2023, so this is the second replacement. I had brought this car into the dealership on Oct. 11, 2024, for a maintenance check up, and this included software updates.

Feb 20, 2025

My EV6 lost power while driving on a busy street. It went into 'Turtle Mode' which allowed me to pull off onto a side road and then all power to the car went out and the car stopped on the side road. I was honked at a couple of times while trying to get off the busy street. The tow truck driver put a power pack on the car and shifted it into neutral and was able to move the car. The dealer diagnosed this as an ICCU failure. The part required is on national backorder with no delivery specified.

Feb 18, 2025

I took my 2022 Wind AWD EV6 into Bob Johnson Kia for the required SC327 recall service on Feb 17. I was informed that the service would not be performed because they were having too many problems with critical failures after performing the service on other cars. Specifically, they said they had 7 EV6s that died within weeks of performing the SC327 update, 4 of which were still in their back lot waiting for new ICCU assemblies. They recommended to wait until Kia sorted out the quality issues surrounding the SC327 update. This seems highly suspicious since it's a required recall service. I'm aware that Kia has a design problem with the ICCU and has mishandled service support from the beginning, but I need to understand my course of action and how you recommend I handle this situation.

Jan 14, 2025

I was about to drive to work and was still in the local area when suddenly a message popped up saying: "check electrical system" and "drive speed reduction", not allowing me to drive more than 10 mi/hr, but only about 30 seconds later a warning sound popped up and kept making noise. It was very dangerous for me. I had to pull over and call a tow truck via the Kia app (luckily the Kia app was still valid until 1/15/2025). At the time I reported, the car was at the dealer and there was no response from the dealer.

Jan 14, 2025

This is related to the NHTSA Recall Number24V867. We recently received this notice (a few weeks ago) and were planning to get it taken in. However, before we were able to do so it died with ZERO warning and simply wouldn't start. Had it towed to a dealer, who ignored that there is a recall, said the problem was the 12V battery being dead, and asked for $500 to replace the 12V battery... which was clearly damaged by the defective Kia charging system. So our complaint is two parts: i) allegedly the system would at least warn before dying (it didn't). and ii) in the process of being defective, it damaged other components and Kia is trying to not repair those claiming they're not under warranty. That is, frankly, crap.

The defogger system. The car window’s suddenly fog up while driving and not adjusting the system. Theres no warning the windows start fogging up. I adjust to just front defrost on high and it takes 10 to 15 seconds to clear the windows good enough to see clearly . I took it to the dealership and was told nothing was detected. Mechanic told me he turned it up to 85, my cars high setting is 82, and tested the air temperature stating it was up to 105°. This just started after the latest recall was completed by the dealership. I’ve attached pictures of the windows fogged up while the system was on auto. This had happened 3 times since the first incident with the system off auto as well.

The driver cluster in front of steering wheel constantly goes from blank to partial screen to proper driver display. I have video of this happening. The speed, turns signals, odometer and blind spot information cannot be seen during the blank and partial screen. The dealer has replicated the problem. I’m out of warranty so replacement will cost $8500. There were no issues up to the point where it failed.

Dec 9, 2024

I purchased my car 08/08/2022, my car stopped charging by June 2023. I took it to the shop and was told, it was my charger. In August of 2023, I was told it was the ICCU. From 06/2023-12/07/2024, I had a total of 9 recalls on this car. Kia did not notify me at all for any recall with the exception of the second one that occurred in December of 2024 (the 9th recall). Some of the recalls I found online when my car failed to charge, one my insurance company notified me of and others I found out when I had other issues with my car.

Nov 22, 2024

The contact owns a 2022 Kia EV6. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 MPH, the vehicle suddenly lost motive power. The vehicle was coasted to the side of the road, the contact waited for a while, and then restarted the vehicle. The contact stated that several unknown service vehicle warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was returned to the owner and returned to the dealer approximately 12 times. The vehicle had been taken to another dealer, Executive Kia (1164 N Colony Rd, Wallingford, CT 06492) who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the battery had failed and there was battery acid accumulated on and around the battery. The battery acid was cleaned but the vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

EV6 12v Battery isn't being maintained by the system and has failed and needed replacement. ICCU has been inspected under the recall but not replaced. The 12v battery is out of 36k mile warranty and has to be replaced out of pocket, when early failure is likely due to keeping the battery in an undercharged state.

The ev6 12 volt battery is not being charged by the main battery. It was recalled for overheating and not charging. I took it in and it was supposedly fixed. Took about three weeks. It happened again and I didn’t have my car for three weeks. I am now on my third time where the small battery is not charging and we were almost stranded.

Originally this 2022 Kia EV6 on the dashboard was showing 225-230 miles at 100% charge. Then the dashboard charge at 100% showed only 180 miles. I got the Recall Notice about this matter, took it in to the Kia dealer. They did a software download and then the dashboard charge at 100% showed 195 miles. I took it back and Kia did another software download, then the dashboard charge at 100% showed 205 miles. Kia declared my EV6 was fixed. I have driven it only 10,000 miles !!!! The software download did NOT fix the problem because it is still not showing the pre-software problem charge at 225 miles. This is a 10% loss of range

The 12v battery in my vehicle failed due to the known ICCU issue. The dealership has the battery and has since replaced it. I do not know if they keep it for their records or not. My family's safety was put at risk due to the unpredictable timing of the failure, we were parked (thankfully) but there was a massive thunderstorm headed our way and we had to hunker down while waiting for a tow truck and a ride. This issue has been reproduced & confirmed by dealerships and other EV6 users (check [XXX]). The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership but no others at this time. There was no warning that the battery was about to fail, we were out at a park for the day and got in at the end when we tried to turn on the vehicle - it gave us an error "12v battery critically low" and then turned off. Kia has issued a recall for the ICCU, but not covered under this recall is the 12v battery which the ICCU causes to fail early. A bad ICCU (Integrated Current Control Unit) can decrease the lifespan of a 12V battery in several ways: Improper Charging Voltage, Inconsistent Current Flow, Battery Drain, Heat Generation, & Inaccurate State of Charge Monitoring. Kia is fixing the cause of a battery failure but not the battery itself. Thankfully we were parked when the battery failed (no longer will hold a charge) but this is a huge risk and should also be covered in this recall. In April 2024 my Kia EV6 unexpectedly didn’t start. I jump-started the car and I brought the car to the Kia dealership where I bought the car, Arapahoe Kia, at 9701 E Arapahoe Rd, Centennial, CO 80112. I brought my car in on [XXX], and explained that my car didn’t start, seemingly for no reason. They inspected the car and later that day the dealership gave the car back to me and told me they couldn’t find any problems. I argued with them, I tried to explain that there was obviously something wrong for the car to just not start for no reason. They again told me there wasn’t a problem with the car. On [XXX], the car failed to start again. I jump started it again. The Kia app on my phone then informed me that my car might be subject to a recall, and that’s when I learned about recall SC302. This recall is due to a problem involving the 12 volt battery. I feel my car obviously experienced the same problem that the recall was meant to address, I brought my car to the dealership AFTER the recall was issued, and the dealership didn’t fix the problem, and the dealership apparently didn’t know about the recall. I feel like the dealership’s complete failure to address this recall problem put my life in danger. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2022 Kia EV6. The contact stated that the vehicle was not charging properly, and the battery was draining very quickly. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not diagnosed; however, a software update was completed. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The vehicle underwent replacement of its ICCU in July-August 2023. I was without the vehicle for 4+ weeks. last week the car flashed a warning to immediately stop and check the power supply (with no instructions on how to do that. ). Was advised both by dealer and Kia not to drive, but to get it to the dealer for service. The following day the vehicle was completely dead. The vehicle (my only transportation) was towed as advised and is once again at Kia service while I’m currently without a vehicle. Was told the ICCU is the likely problem.

Apr 25, 2024

The 12v battery indicates low voltages and car shuts down and cannot start. Even after replacing the battery at the dealer, the battery failed after 4 days.

Apr 23, 2024

On April 13, 2024, when I started my vehicle, the instrument cluster immediately flashed the following warning msg surrounded by a flashing red circle: 12V Battery Very Low Stop Safely I turned the vehicle off, waited a few seconds and when I started it again the message did not appear. I contacted KIA USA and received a Recall Inquiry Case #. On April 18th, when I started my vehicle the same 12V Battery Very Low, Stop Safely msg displayed. It did not disappear upon restarting. Within 5 mts ALL the electrics were dead, including the instrument cluster AND the parking/emergency brake control AND the Vehicle Start On/Off button. I am very fortunate I was not driving on the highway when this occurred. Ditto for other drivers. My vehicle had to be towed to my dealer/service center. The tow service jumped the 12V battery and was able to drive it up on the flatbed. Today (April 23rd), my dealer/service center representive informed by the 12V battery tested okay, and the vehicle diagnostics they ran have not revealed any issues with the vehicle electrical system. They have been unable to reproduce or confirm the problem so far. My vehicle is still at my dealer/service center. What occurred is identical to the issues identified in the NHTSA Recall No: 24V-200 & KIA Recall No: SC302.

Mar 30, 2024

While driving at night under raining conditions with the auto highbeam enable the Kia’s HUD will get so bright at times that will white out the drivers view making nearly impossible to see. Kia’s is refusing the fix the issue because they can’t replicated even with a video I provided and I even found another persons video on YouTube, as well as several owners on a forum complaining about it.

After starting the vehicle and beginning to back out of a parking space, a loud pop was heard from the rear of the vehicle. Immediately, a "Check vehicle electrical system warning" appeared on the dashboard, followed by "Stop vehicle and check power supply". While attempting to drive to a safe location, a continuous warning began to sound along with a dashboard warning to stop immediately. The speed of the vehicle was limited which could have caused an accident when driving on public roads. The vehicle was towed to the dealership where it is waiting for diagnosis. During the tow, the vehicle was unable to move under its own power. The symptoms appear to represent a failure of Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) (NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V200000). There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.

Mar 21, 2024

Heard a loud pop noise as I was driving. Check Electrical System warning immediately flashed on the dash and vehicle slowed down while I was driving. Moments later, vehicle entered "turtle mode" allowing for restricted speeds. Vehicle then flashed error message about 12V battery having low charge. Vehicle continued to reduce maximum speed until it came to a stop minutes later. No previous symptoms and all TSBs and recalls had been performed on the vehicle. Tow truck was necessary to get the vehicle to a dealer. Vehicle currently with the dealer awaiting assessment and diagnostics.

Mar 11, 2024

While driving my car on March 7th, 2024 around 2:30pm an error message popped up "Stop vehicle and check power supply" and speed of the car was noticeably limited. Thankfully I was able to pull to side of the road and called road side assistance as car was undrivable, the 12 volt battery was completely dead. When tow truck arrived, a jump park was required to put car into neutral in order to get onto tow truck. If this happened in a freeway this could be a risk if we are not able to stop at a safe location. Towing services was able to tow my car to the dealership about 15 minutes away, upon unloading vehicle onto lot, taking an Uber home as no loaners are available, asked the next day about getting car into diagnosis and was told that it would take 2 weeks to get in to be looked at, and now it sits until they are able to diagnose a known problem, even the sales manager at this dealership has had same issue on 3 different EV6's. He assured me they know what to look for when it comes to the issue. After doing some research this issue, it is a well known issue with Hyundai/Kia cars and it looks like the ICCU module needs to be replaced. And Hyundai/Kia EVs and was supposedly addressed in a recall done in late September of last year, yet I have gone back and made a complaint with Kia regarding this issue, but in their eyes it was fixed in the recall. This new issue now goes under same case number associated with the charging interrupted error, where charging stops after 10 mins, took to dealership had the update done and still same issue. Continued to have problems charging on level 2 charger, even at a lowered amps. Lowering the amount that is recommended by the manufacturer and still having the same issue. Thank You.

Mar 10, 2024

When driving at 35 mph on level ground, a loud "pop" was heard and the vehicle immediately lost power and warning messages having to do with the 12V system appeared on the instrument panel warning that the car needed to be pulled over in a safe spot and turned off. The vehicle was transported to a local KIA dealer via flatbed and has now been at the dealer for more than 30 day. So far, the 12V battery, the ICCU, the inverter and ICCU fuse have been replaced.

Mar 9, 2024

While driving my car on [XXX] around [XXX] an error message popped up "Stop vehicle and check power supply" and speed of the car started to decline. I could not drive more than 20mph on a main street that had a speed limit of 35 mph. Thankfully I was able to park at a Ralphs in a safe place before the car died. The 12 Volt battery died. If this happened in a freeway this could be a risk if we are not able to stop at a safe location. Towing services was able to tow my car home but I had to keep a portable jumper connected to the car so I can move the car on the flatbed since I couldn't put the car in Neutral for towing. I replaced the 12 Volt battery the next day, but the issue persists and the next available appointment is on April 1st. Upon researching this issue, it is a well known issue with Hyundai/Kia cars and it looks like the ICCU module needs to be replaced. Please look into this issue. 12 Battery drains out so fast and so often . Even if it is charged overnight externally . it drains out so fast that after driving some distance and after switching off , it does not come back up and we cannot start the car and have to use a jumper to start the car . My car is car dealer for 2 weeks and they are unable to find fix , though they have opened a ticket with Kia Tech and they have 7 such cars as of today facing the same issue.

Jan 5, 2024

The vehicle completely lost power while driving. My wife came down a dirt road hill, made a left onto [XXX] in Duxbury, VT, heard a "clunk" from below the car, and experienced total power loss. An error flashed on the screen that read "Critical Battery System" and then, soon after, "Stop Car Immediately." She was able to coast 1/4 mile (downhill) to a school parking lot. The car was towed to a dealership where the dealer replaced the inverter (ICCU) and the paperwork stated "DC/DC Converter input voltage sensor fault." The car had 25,896 miles on it when the incident occurred. The total power loss was extremely dangerous, and we were lucky it did not occur on a highway at a higher speed with more cars in proximity. I see online that NHSTA had previous reports of this issue both with the EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Was driving to go pick up one of my kids later at night. Was roughly 1/2 mile from home driving about 40 mph when I heard a pop / noise on the rear passenger side. Was unsure if I had rolled over something or what. Shortly after that (few seconds later), the "Check Electrical System" came on. Since I was close to home, I elected to turn around to go home since I could conduct a fairly easy turn around near the sub-division. Before I did that, the car then noted "Limited Power" and came up with the Turtle icon. The speed was restricted to 25 mph. This continued for roughly several hundred feet. At that point, a second warning noting a critical issue came up and the speed was further restricted to 12 mph. I was able to go through the 4-way stop sign, continued to drive under the restricted speed. I was able to turn on my hazards and wave several people past me as I drove extremely slowly home (12 mph on a 35 mph road). I did arrive to my house and pulled up into the driveway where I was able to park the car. The vehicle was at roughly 65% charge when I had started the trip. As per the recommendation of the dealership, I had the vehicle towed using Kia's Roadside Assistance to the dealership the next day. The vehicle was unable to start or even turn on. The tow truck was able to use a battery pack on the 12V battery to be able to activate the car to shift it to neutral for towing.

My 2022 EV6 has been experiencing issues with the 12v battery that has resulted in multiple jump starts. Battery was tested by dealer but no issues found. On December 5, the car suddenly lost power and had to be towed to the dealer. Immediately prior to this the "Check Vehicle Electric System" light came on. The warning light came on and the car experienced an immediate loss of power and the died completely. It has been one week and they have yet to diagnose the issue.

Dec 11, 2023

Driving South on Route 15 in Gettysburg Area on 11-22-2023 I got a warning message on my dash which read “check electric vehicle system”. The warning disappeared off the dash and we continued to drive a bit further. The warning light illuminated once again and I started to look for a pull off area. Not long after the warning appeared the second time a bigger warning came on the dash and directed me to pull over and stop. We fortunately were able to get into the right lane and pull off the road. We were headed to Northern VA and would have been on a number of multi-lane roads where if a dead vehicle is stranded in high traffic area with speeds exceeding 60 to 80 miles per hour could have resulted in a catastrophe with a car that just goes dead. Remember there is no warning except for the dash warning and a few seconds until the car died. This problem is well know and documented all over the Internet and KIA has done nothing about it. 11-22-2023 At 10:33 AM we called the KIA hot line and explained what had happened to the KIA representative. He secured a tow truck. At dealer on 12-27-22 for charging problem. At dealer on 8-10-23 to have ICCU check 11-22-2023 At 12:38 PM we received a call from the tow truck driver and ask where we were located. We got to the dealer but they couldn’t get the car off of the roll back tow truck because it had lost all power to the car and wouldn't unlock doors, release the parking brake etc. I suggested to the service advisor that the battery needed a jump or battery pack to energize the car enough to get it off the truck. That did work and pulled the car to the rear parking area. I told the service advisor about all of the complaints on the Internet about EV6’s stopping dead in the middle of the road causing some very dangerous conditions. He said the dealership had not heard anything about it. I have no loaner car and car has been sitting for 20 days waiting on parts that were probably not upgraded from the original part.

The driver's side USB-A wiring harness repeatedly (though intermittently) drops connection between a properly connected iPhone and the native infotainment system, causing a "drop-out" of Apple CarPlay connectivity. The safety concerns associated with this are most acute when using Apple CarPlay-based navigation systems, as the native infotainment system stops displaying Apple Car-Play navigation, and begins searching for a USB-A connection with display "Reading USB." This sometimes remedies itself, with return to Apple CarPlay display but often requires physical reconnection of the USB-A cable. This level of manual manipulation of the infotainment system has caused me to lose navigation capabilities mid-trip and frequently takes my attention away from safely navigating the vehicle, especially when in urban traffic. The problem is persistent across multiple phones, multiple cables (including brand new Apple-branded cables), and other USB-A hardware external to the vehicle's infotainment system. The problem is well documented in multiple online owners' forums (see links below), and appears to be experienced in the similarly engineered/equipped Hyundai Ioniq 5. In my experience, Kia dealers have difficulty recreating the issue, as it is intermittent. Even when they are able to recreate the issue, they are unwilling to perform service, as neither Kia nor Hyundai have developed related technical service bulletins documenting or addressing this issue despite its persistence over multiple years since the cars' release. This presents an ongoing and unaddressed safety risk to Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 drivers. While driving in a major thoroughfare, a red warning came on to check the electrical system, and that propulsion power may be limited. We pulled over to a parking area and consulted the manual. It suggested turning the engine off and back on again - we did so, but the warning remained. We determined that we were 2-4mi from our Kia dealer. Based on the manual information, we believed we would be able to drive at a slow speed and selected a route towards the dealer that avoided the highway. However then the 'turtle' warning light came on and we we were reduced to walking pace. We pulled into a side road, but were unable to pull over completely before we lost all motion. We activated the warning lights, but after a minute or so there was not even sufficient power for those. This was a rainy day with not great visibility. We feel lucky and this could have been so much more dangerous. We had to redirect cars around us while we waited for towing. The vehicle was at the dealer for a voluntary service campaign the previous month related to the ICCU. The online version of the EV6 2022 manual has different instructions - it says to refrain from driving and have the vehicle towed. We would have followed those instructions.

The vehicle throws a "charge interrupted" error on any Level 2 AC chargers and stops charging within few minutes of starting charge. The charging occurs only for 10~15minutes and immediately stops. The issue has been persistent since 3-4 months now and consistent on every charging session. I have to unplug and replug the charger multiple times to be able to complete charging. This also happened to me on a DCFC 150kW charger as well.

There is a component, the ICCU, that is failing in a number of early cars. Who knows about the later ones? The 12v battery drains and the car won’t start. If the use is lucky, a jump start will get it to run enough to get to the dealer. Otherwise, a tow is in order. This can happen while the car is under way as well. Look at the Reddit ev6 forum and the Facebook EV6/EV9 forum. There are many stories about this problem.

The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH, the message "Speed Limit System Failure" was displayed, and the instrument cluster screen start to flash on and off before going blank. The vehicle started to lose motive power and then stalled. The vehicle was restarted but after driving approximately one mile the failure reoccurred and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the local service center the vehicle was diagnosed and determined that the 12-Volt battery was faulty and needed to be replaced. The 12-Volt battery was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 72,000.

I continually have issues with the car not charging. I have taken it to the dealership and they "update the software" but I continue to have issues where my car only charges 10-15% at a time and continues to give me an alert "charge interrupted" but it does not tell me WHY the charge has been interrupted. I will set it to charge overnight but then wake up ready to go to work and my car only has 20% charge and I can't make my commute. I've had the same problem at public chargers. However, my partner has an electric Ford Mustang and his car has had no problems charging at home. I would say for the first 9 months of ownership this was not a problem with my EV6 it only began in the last 3-4 months but it happens almost every time I plug in.

Just like the Hyundai Ionic 5 issue with power loss, my Kia EV6 which has the exact same underlying system (e-gmp); I heard a loud pop followed by my vehicle immediately informing me to stop driving and pull over. It has since been in hobble or "turtle" mode and will not let me drive it for more than 1 minute before insisting I pull over. It has since been towed to the local Kia dealership.

2022 EV6 Wind. For the first 10 months i had absolutely no issues charging the car at home. The car went in to the dealer in mid august for a number of service bulletins. Since those changes, the car no longer accepts level 2 charging at the 48amp speed that it is advertised at and documented to provide. The dealership is not capable of replicating it, because they only have a 32 amp charger, which is significantly less powerful. It is my understanding that this is a heat issue which makes me nervous about a fire. I can turn the charger down very low, but that defeats the purpose of why I bought this car as faster speed charging was one of its selling points.

Aug 26, 2023

An error message started flashing on the dashboard. The car came to a crawl was able to turn off to a side road where the car shut down. Had to call roadside assistant and have the car towed to the nearest Kia dealership Two days later was told the iccu had burned out and there was no ETA on a part to fix the problem.

To the questions listed: 1) For the last number of months the car will not fully charge when using a Level 2 charger (note: it will charge using a Level 3 charger). When charging I will get a message that "Charge Interrupted". When I go out to the car the charging has in fact stopped, and the charging cable connector is very hot to the touch. 2) In addition to the inconvenience, I worry the car is a fire hazard putting my family at risk. 3) The Kia dealers have not been able to replicate the problem and insist it is a problem with my charger at home. (Note: I have tested my charging unit on my son's Nissan Leaf and it works fine.) Note: they did apply the "Voluntary Service Campaign" however that did not fix the problem. 4) The car has not been inspected by anyone other then two Kia dealers. 5) After the last software upgrade, we had some random warning lights that would appear, and then disappear. This however, does not appear to be related to the charging issue as far as I can tell. Thank you.

Car has a unresolved ICCU failure, which means the battery cannot be charged. Car is stuck in dealer for 6 months with the same issue. Meanwhile, I pay car payments.

Jul 26, 2023

2022 EV6 First Edition. Vehicle no longer accepts level 2 charging at the 11kWh window stick advertised speed. Providing car with any more than 9kwh and the charging port gets very hot and car will stop charging. Dealer is aware of the issue but as of now is unable to diagnose as none of their dealerships have power supplies that exceed 7kwh.

Jul 25, 2023

12-volt battery is not being properly charged while driving. once resulting in loss of power while moving (thankfully still in our driveway) requiring a jump start, and twice when parked which forced us to have to break into (airbag the door) the vehicle to get the trunk open and jump start. It seems to lose 12-volt battery charge if not driving for a few days requiring us to leave it unlocked if we are not using it over the weekend for example. There have been no warning indicators or other warning prior to this occurring. I was in an accident in February and my vehicle was in the shop for a month. I lost contact via my app twice so I assumed the 12v battery died while they had my car, but they didn't mention the issue upon returning the car to me.

The contact owns a 2022 Kia EV6. The contact stated that the vehicle was purchased new; however, upon attempting to unlock the vehicle to drive a week later, the vehicle failed to unlock. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the battery was replaced; however, the failure recurred a year later. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, a message advising to pull over and to immediately stop the vehicle was displayed. The contact veered to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that unknown parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. Additionally, the contact sent requested documentation to the manufacturer through mail. The failure mileage was approximately 87.

The vehicle is repeatedly shutting down its charging cycle during charging sessions. I am always getting “charging session interrupted” notifications.

Jul 17, 2023

The 12V battery on my Kia EV6 has died 5 times (May 9, May 23, Jun 18, July 3, July 5 2023). I bought the car in March 2022 and there were no issues until May 2023. Twice the 12V died when parked at home with the Lithium battery at 80% charge, twice when my wife was out and parked and the last time at the 'Serramonte Kia' dealership in Daly City, CA. It required us to call Kia Roadside assistance to jump start the car. It was reported to Kia all 4 times that it happened to us. They recharged the car and when it finally died at the dealership, they replaced the 12V battery. I suspect that it's going to happen again because there's a fundamental problem with the ICCU which prevents the Lithium battery from charging the 12V. I have read that it's already been reported to NHTSA and that it's been investigate. Kia needs to recall and fix the underlying issue. I am worried that it puts my family at risk if we are stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Jul 13, 2023

The issue is essentially EXACTLY like this article: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a44272155/2022-hyundai-ioniq-5-nhtsa-investigation/ We heard a semi-loud pop that appeared to come from the rear of the vehicle. Approximately 5-15 seconds later, we got a notice that the electric system needed to be diagnosed. We were only a block from the house, traveling at low speeds, and did not experience a complete loss of power. However, the system started giving additional alerts (I do not remember the exact phrasing) related to stopping the vehicle immediately.

Jul 12, 2023

On 5 May 2023 our 2022 Kia EV6 WIND AWD Automatic vehicle (~11,200 miles on the odometer) was being driven under normal conditions at approximately 30 mph in city traffic when the car lost motive power and a dashboard alerts appeared stating "stop vehicle and check power supply" and "check electrical vehicle system." The driver complied but the shutdown occurred on a heavily trafficked road and put the driver and other travelers at risk and caused the driver considerable distress. The incident was reported to the dealer and manufacturer via the Kia Access app, and the car was towed to the nearest Kia dealer and service center on May 8. The dealer diagnosed the problem as caused by a defective ICCU (a part of the electrical powertrain control system) requiring replacement. As of 12 July 2023, Kia has not provided a replacement part and it remains on backorder with no ETA for arrival. We have not been contacted by Kia and to our knowledge no one has inspected the vehicle other than the dealer service technicians.

The contact owns a 2022 Kia EV6. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle shut off and lost motive power. The vehicle rebooted and the message "Critical Electrical Failure" and "Stop Vehicle” was displayed. The low voltage message was also displayed. The contact was unable to stop the vehicle or restart the vehicle. The vehicle came to a complete stop independently. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for a diagnostic test however, no failure was found. The contact was informed that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed by a technician. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 11,000.

HAD JUST CHARGED THE VEHICLE AT A LEVEL 3 CHARGER, RECEIVED BATTERY FAILURE WARNINGS ON THE DASHBOARD, BY THE NEXT MORNING THE CAR HAD LOST MOTIVE POWER DOWN TO 12 MPH MAXIMUM. THIS OCCURRED JUNE 19, 2023. THE CAR HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER EVER SINCE, WHERE THEY ADVISE THAT THERE ARE NO ICCU REPLACEMENT MODULES IN THE USA AS THEY ARE BACK ORDERED. THE DEALER IS NORTHSTAR KIA IN QUEENS, NY.

Jul 5, 2023

During Level 2, 48 amp charging the car continually stops and starts charging roughly every five minutes. After contacting the charging maker, their diagnostic showed nothing wrong with the charger or incoming power, and that the car was stopping the charge. My Kia dealer states it is a problem with the onboard charger. However, Kia support doesn’t seem to acknowledge it. I have seen multiple reports of this is happening including a potential lawsuit, so I’m reporting this as an issue as well.

ICCU or 12v system has failed and car died mid drive on the road. Car is currently at the dealership for repairs. With complete electrical failure the vehicle reduced speed and stopped on it's own. This happened at night and I didn't have lights in or on the car to see. Additionally, I was unable to activate emergency lights and put on hazards. The dealership is struggling to diagnose the cause of the issue. The car dying was proceeded by a 12v battery light indicator and the turtle light saying it was reducing power. This was followed by a flashing "pull over vehicle and stop now" message.

Jun 27, 2023

Vehicle repeatedly interrupt its own charging, no error codes are surfaced. The charger(EVSE)is in proper working order, confirmed with other cars, the area around the plug gets very warm but not alarmingly so? The issue developed after many months of error free charging. The issue is non limited to a single EVSE, it seems to be avoidable by greatly reducing charging rate.

Jun 21, 2023

EV charging on Level 2 was overheationg the charging port, terminating the charging session. KIA released TSB ELE 283 software update. The software update throttled the charging so it only charges at half speed and does not overheat the port. To me this is a bandaid for faulty charging ports and that there is no guarantee there will be a failure of the port causing electrical failure and possibly even a fire. This was evaluated at the dealer and confirmed the charging speed is throttled. They could not do further evaluation unless I committed to leave the car for days, possibly weeks to work with KIA Tech Line to further diagnose. This is a known issue and others have had their charging port replaced after a lengthy stay at the service department. It appears this may be a bad batch of charging ports causing this overheating and failure

Jun 21, 2023

On June 3, 2023 I found out that my EV6 was no longer charging, and that I could not open my doors or my trunk with my key fob. Nor could I start the engine. It turned out that my 12v battery was drained. As I never left my headlights or doors open overnight, I had no clue why the 12v battery was suddenly inoperable. I called AAA roadside assistance to have my 12v battery jumped. On June 4, 2023 my 12v battery had drained again, and I had to call AAA roadside assistance once more to have my 12v battery jumped. The earliest I could take my car in to the dealership for warranty-covered repairs was June 14. There, I was advised of the issues regarding the integrated charge control unit (ICCU). The dealership could not tell me when the part would arrive so they could replace it. I am currently using a rental car provided by the KIA dealership. Until the ICCU is replaced, I fear my EV6 could stop in traffic and leave me vulnerable to danger.

Jun 19, 2023

Heard a loud pop from rear passenger side of vehicle followed by dash warning lights to check charging system, then pull vehicle over immediately. All power to the vehicle was subsequently lost immobilizing the vehicle. Dealer service department said ICCU board needs to be replaced, but is on national backorder. Car has been immobilized since.

Jun 18, 2023

Issue has been diagnosed by Kia and our dealership as a failed Integrated Control Charging Unit (ICCU). Parts are backordered indefinitely (we were told there's 106 on order nationally). Same issue as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (which is built on the same platform): https://news.yahoo.com/highway-safety-agency-reports-power-162735107.html Car dash showed a "Check electric vehicle system" alert, followed shortly after by "Stop vehicle and check power supply" on a short city drive home. Was close enough to make it home without the car turning off, where I confirmed the car could also no longer be charged at home using AC charging. The ICCU manages AC to DC power conversion for home charging and also keeps the 12-volt battery charged. Per Kia's recommendation, had the car towed to the nearest dealership. The worst part is just the wait time for backordered parts that Kia and Hyundai; dealership can't even give us an estimate of when to expect the parts. 107 does not seem like a difficult number of components to come up with on short notice for a carmaker that sells 2.3 million cars annually.

Jun 18, 2023

After driving my vehicle for a few minutes on my way to work my car lost speed rapidly, going from 40 mph to 25 then seconds later to 22 mph. I tried to accelerate; the car was unresponsive and would not accelerate over 22 mph. Dropping speed rapidly and suddenly during rush hour on a secondary road with a limited shoulder was unnerving as the slow response required waiting for a gap in traffic flow to safely turn around to head home. Upon returning home a message appeared on right side of dash board in an orange circle "check vehicle system" with a small upside down triangle with letters EV also inside this circle and a "small orange battery" picture showed on the left. I called Kia Roadside Assistance and reported the above and was advised it would take about 90 minutes for a tow to dealer as I was unwilling to drive it. Once the tow truck arrived I tried to drive EV6 out of my driveway onto flatbed and it died halfway. Driver had to jump 12 volt to get car to start and maintain power to get up flatbed. He advised 12 volt had to stay connected to ensure power to deliver to dealership. After weeks of calling / emailing dealer, opening a case with Kia America and sending several unanswered tweets the dealer advised on 06/02 that tech determined the ICCU assembly and a new high voltage fuse would be required. The service manager advised this would take 7-10 business days but on 06/15 advised the parts had still not arrived and in following up with Kia America there was no available ETA on when the part would be received.

Jun 13, 2023

Vehicle suddenly showed warning for electrical failure and could not longer be driven. Towed to dealership. Main fuse was blown. After waiting a couple of weeks for that part to arrive, it was replaced, only to find out that another component had failed; the ICCU. Kia stating there is NO ETA on when this part will be available. Car had been at dealership for almost 5 weeks with their admission that no estimate exists for when the car will be repaired due to the unknown time to wait for the part.

The contact owns a 2022 Kia EV6. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle shut off with the check battery warning message displayed on the instrument panel. The contact pulled the vehicle off to the side of the highway shoulder and had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic. The mechanic performed a diagnostic test that showed that the integrated charging control unit (ICCU) had failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided a case number. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000.

I was traveling on a neighborhood arterial road, when I heard a load thunk that seemed to come from beneath the rear seat. Moments later, I got a "Check electric vehicle system" warning, followed by "Stop vehicle and check power supply" in the dashboard. After another moment, the power was reduced to a maximum of 25 mph. I turned on the hazard lights because I was no longer able to match the flow of traffic (45 mph). No accident occurred. I was able to limp the car home on slower side streets. At home, I eventually got a "12v battery voltage low" message and the car was unable to move. I had to have the car towed to the dealership. The dealer service folks diagnosed the problem as a failed integrated charging control unit (ICCU). This same problem has been reported by others in the Kia EV forums. Kia Consumer Affairs says 87 of those parts are on backorder in the US with no ETA from Korea. Apparently, the part needs to be manufactured; they don't have them available in a warehouse.

May 5, 2023

I was driving my less than 1 year old, only 10,000 miles Kia EV6 First Edition when I got an error message to 'Check Vehicle Electric System'. After about another 2 miles I got a warning to "Stop Vehicle and Check Power Supply." As I attempted to find a safe place to stop, my vehicle started throttling my speed down to only 20mph (I was on a 55mph road). I was able to pull off and into a parking lot, but when I turned the vehicle off, it was completely dead and would not restart. Note, the battery was charged to 83% at the time of this incident. I had the vehicle towed the Kia Service Center at the dealership where I purchased the vehicle. After 5 days, they informed me that the ICCU had failed. Per their website, the Integrated Charging Control Unit, or ICCU, is a newly developed integrated charging system by Hyundai that charges both the high-voltage and spare batteries, essential to allowing for V2L (Vehicle to Load) feature. It has now been 20 days since the incident and Kia has no idea when a replacement part will be available.

On March 30, 2023 at 14k miles Integrated Charge Control unit failure of 2022 Kia EV6. Error message "Stop vehicle and check power supply." It was towed to the closest dealership. Kia customer care advised that the ICCU needed to be replaced, but the delivery date has yet to be confirmed.

On APRIL 23 2023. I GOT A CRITICAL WARNING MESSAGE ON MY CARS DASH PANAL. SAYING WARNING THERE IS A CRITICAL PROBLEM WITH YOUR CAR ELECTRICLA BATTERY. CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE ASAP. ON APRIL 24 202E. I WAS ABLE TO GET MY KIA EV6 TO STOCKTON KIA FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON CARS ELECTRICAL BATTERY MALFUNCTION. THEY HAD MY CAR UNTIL 3:00 PM. THEY GAVE ME MY CAR BACK STATING THEY DONT KNOW WHATS WRONG WITH MY KIA EV6. THEY WOULD HAVE TO GENERATE A HIGHER LEVEL REPAIR REQUEST. BUT SINCE THERE COMPUTERS ARE DOWN THEY COULDNT REQUEST FOR REPAIR UNTIL SYSTEMS BACK UP AND WORKING. TODAY IS April 30 2023. Kia computer systems seem to still be down. I don't know if my car will explode, Burn, or just stop immediately in road Kia is not trying to fix my new kia problems. .

Apr 21, 2023

While operating and driving on a busy two lane roadway, about an hour in to a two hour trip, the vehicle displayed “check electrical system” message without warning, then quickly lost power, rendering the car only able to drive at 25 mph for a brief moment, and then, just as quickly, shut down completely and did not operate. I was able to navigate the vehicle from the busy roadway to the roadside, but I barely made it. Under different conditions, such as travel on an interstate at high speeds, this would have proved very dangerous to have a car stop completely dead like this. The car was unable to be started by Emergency Roadside Assistance and had to be towed to the dealer. After a few days the dealer informed me that parts needed for repair would be approximately 7 weeks to be received from the manufacturer.

There have been multiple failures to charge on AC 220v current at both 9 and 8kW. Dealer states there is a fault where the battery management system or charging system is overheating which causes the vehicle to stop charging.

The on-board charge controller on my EV is drawing excessive current from my Level 2 EVSE portable charger. When my charger is set to 24 amps maximum the car will draw 28 to 30 amps, causing the charger to shutdown and report a short-circuit has been detected. When my charger is set to 40 amps, about an hour into charging the car will draw 46.6 amps again causing the charger to shut down and indicate a short-circuit. My understanding of the Level 2 charging standard is that the charger tells the vehicle its current setting and the vehicle is not supposed to draw more current than the charger tells it. I've done lots of reading online and this is a problem EV6 and Ioniq 5 owners are having with a variety of charger brands and some owners state that the same charger when used with other vehicles like the Mustang Mach E does NOT draw more current than the charger is set to. It seems to me like this is a HUGE safety issue, as excessive current draw is causing the charge cable to get hot and could cause a fire. Kia hasn't indicated any willingness to fix the problem and they don't seem to be treating it with the seriousness it deserves. I took my car to the dealer and they grudgingly applied the only Level 2 software update they had, but it has not made any difference in the problem. Now they say there is nothing else they can do.

The 12V Battery running out of charge or discharging causes the car to become inoperable. You are no longer able to lock doors, turn on hazard lights, headlights, air conditioning. A display appears when the 12V does not have sufficient charge but not until you try to turn the car on again. Otherwise no indication leaving one stranded in completely unsafe situations when you’re not able to lock a door.

I live in the Northern Latitudes in Washington state, on my drive this morning with temps in the low 40's and high humidity the heating/ventilation system just stopped working. My windshield immediately fogged up completely and I had near zero visibility. I slowed down and thankfully had a cloth nearby and used that to wipe the windshield clear while looking for a place to pull over. After changing every conceivable setting to no avail I limped home with my cloth at hand. This is a serious safety problem that could easily lead to a serious accident. I've contacted the Kia dealer for assistance and they insist there are no known issues or bulletins on this problem. I checked various user forums for the vehicle and it appears others are having similar if not identical issues.
