Unknown. Vehicle serviced since 2010. Oil changes based on recommend miles. Only 80,000 miles. Wife [XXX] only uses it mostly for store runs. Since recently inspection and oil change motor has a loud knocking at start up and gets quiet shortly after but while idling you can here a ticking noise. We have all paper work to maintenance. Fear if my wife is stranded or worse and thought I would report this. I will take it in to see what is said. Was driving at slow rate of speed <30 MPH, the car started having a really loud knocking sound coming from the engine and then lost all power. Had car towed to local garage and was informed that the rod bearing had been broken and the engine needed to be replaced.

The contact owns a 2010 Kia Forte. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, there was an abnormal sound coming from the hood of the vehicle. The contact pulled over on the side of the road. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the rod bearing was damaged and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the warranty being expired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

On January 20, th 2024 my Connecting (Rod Bearings In cylinder # 1 failed ! My 2010 Kia Forte Started making a loud rattling noise from inside the Engine! I immediately parked my car. On February 13th, Kia Of Carson ca. Excepted my Kia for service check ! They tried to charge me $235.00 (see service check receipt! Then they later retracted the bill ! Today is February 25th and my Vehicle in still at the dealership unrepaired ! My complaint is that the Kia Dealership and cooperation has tried to Mislead me in every aspect of the rules and regulations of a recall , in order to not repair this (significant Vehical Safety issue! They even tried to get me to pick up the vehicle sand drive it away in the condition it's in ! My insurance company said they will not be liable if something happens to me while operating this vehicle while it's under Recall ! Kia is alleging that my vehical is not under (Warrenty any more! (1).If the recall was not a significant issue why would they recall the 2010 Thru 2013 Kia Forte ! It's Clear " that a 14 year old model would not still be under warranty! However...the rules of recall states that if the conditions are found to exist in any vehical subject to recall it Must be repaired!

kia already has a recall on the 2.0 litre Theta engines due to rod bearing failures due to improper machining of the engine blocks, resulting in metal filings blocking oil passages in the bottom end of the engine resulting in the significant risk of a fire or catastrophic engine failure usually at highway speed which can cause accidents. They also have a recall for possible engine fires and instruct owners to park their vehicles outside, with a significant risk of burning occupants. YouTube mechanics have been complaining of all these Kia engines' early failures such as: Scotty Kilmer Exotic Car Play Place The Car Wizard Calls to Kia Motors USA have resulted in their refusal to replace these 2.0 non-direct injection engines.

179000 miles owner was driving and heard a knocking sound. He is an independent mechanic and put it in the shop to diagnose. While inspecting oil was within normal operating range and not yet due for an oil change. Low end rod knock. Changed oil to inspect for debris and found light flakes of bearing material. Diagnosed as rod knock and needs bearing replaced.

The contact owns a 2010 Kia Forte. The contact stated while driving at approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle stalled. On two other occasions, the vehicle shut off and the driver was able to steer the vehicle off the roadway. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that there was no oil in the engine. The independent mechanic informed the contact to check the oil level while refueling. The vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. There was an abnormal rattling sound detected. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

There is an ongoing issue with the MAP sensor that triggers a check engine light as well as the RPMS to fluctuate. This can happen when disconnecting the battery and/or replacing the MAP sensor. I replaced the MAP sensor and still get this ongoing issue. This is a safety concern because due to the RPMs constantly fluctuating, the car jolts forward when driving which could possibly result to the car hitting another vehicle in front of it. But the only way to get it to stop / get the check engine light to turn off, is to drive it for x amount of miles until it fixes itself. This problem has been inspected by Kia themselves and they did not give any information to me about the issue. This issue seems to happen any time I get the vehicle serviced.

I had oil changed on my 2010 Kia forte 2.0 motor and afterwards the oil light came on on the way home from the shop and it died and engine started making a loud noise they have an engine recall on these motors for going bad I need them to replace my engine I can't afford to put new motor in my car when it's not my fault it has a defect in the motor

Premature engine failure in 2010 kia forte ex in April 2020 resulted in a vehicle that was unsafe to drive. The problem was confirmed by a mechanic and later the dealership. No warning messages or lamps were displayed. The problem was identified after I spoke with my mechanic about a ticking noise that I was hearing upon starting my vehicle. The noises first appeared a few weeks before my cars engine was diagnosed as failing.

In March 2023, my 2010 kia forte ex began to make a ticking noise, similar to the noise it had made before its first engine had failed. I had just had my car inspected the week prior and had my oil changed. I took my car back to the mechanic, where they confirmed there was an issue with my "new" engine. The engine was "knocking." I took my kia to the dealership where I had gotten the first engine replaced to see if my warranty still covered the new engine as it was not even 3 years old, but was told it was not under warranty. I took my car to another mechanic to get a second opinion after being quoted over $3000 for a new engine. The mechanic said that there were metal shavings in my oil, which was only a week or two old at that time. He said the issue was likely the rod baring's. I learned kia had several lawsuits going on about premature engine failure in kia fortes, but was told by kia that my car was not going to be part of that lawsuit. No warning messages showed up prior to the failure. The only symptom of the failure that was noticeable to me was the knocking, and would not be as noticable to someone who doesnt know much about cars. Driving my car for the last time, I noticed a burning smell when I turned on the ac. I shut it off and looked for signs of a fire, knowing kias have been catching fire recently. These cars arent safe on the roads and Kia should be held accountable before more people get hurt.

Unknown, 2010 Kia Forte engines have an active and open recall in Canada for a ticking noise that leads to vehicle fires and cause death it is not being addressed here in the United States even though the problems are exactly the same there's a smell of gas burning there are ticking and knocking noises coming from an engine and Kia is refusing to replace it here in the United States but they are actively replacing it in Canada

hi, i have a standing issue with my 2010 kia forte sx 2.4l the engine developed this knock that has totally incapacitated the car so it cannot be driven. every mechanic ive been to says that the engine is done and needs to be replaced. ive checked for recalls and i found hundreds of consumers with the same exact problem where these 2.4l engines developed a crippling knock. Has this establishment recieved any complaints and if so what is being done to relieve the consumer who has no where to turn and is stuck with a car they cant use and is being ignored by KIA COORPORATION and every one else. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thank You

While the vehicle was operating the engine had a noticeable amount of power reduction and there were multiple knocking sounds occurring simultaneously. The vehicle was being operated in the right-most furthest lane of a busy freeway in the middle of traffic and at freeway speeds of approximately 65 mph. The issue seemed to originate from the engine causing engine malfunction without engine light indication. There was no engine light prior, during, or post-incident. The vehicle has been professionally inspected, but not thoroughly diagnosed. Altogether, the motor has had a major unidentifiable malfunction and now I have no transportation from the once-reliable vehicle I was using.

Randomly the car refused to accelerate, rpms would not go past 3k. It happened it different time points of a drive. There was never any check engine light. Mechanic drove the vehicle and ran a check on it and said with out a warning light there isn’t much I can do. Suggested replace crank shaft sensor. There was no change to the point the entire car died while driving up hill with no shoulder and a very large truck behind. My children would be dead right now if there had been another vehicle in the lane next to me I was able to barely to get the cat into. The car started back up after 30 mins. Was looked at again, informed it could have something to do with the engine tick, still no warning lights. The car stalls, jerks like a misfire and had refused to keep a stable speed while on the interstate

MY KIA WAS JUS FINE DRIVING DOWN TO MY DAUGHTERS HOUSE WHICH IS AN HOUR N HALF WHERE I LIVE. WHERE ALL OF A SUDDEN ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND A KNOCKING SOUND CAME ON SLIGHT NOISE. I KEPT AN EYE ON THE NOISE AND VEHICLE. WHEN WE STOPPED I CHECKED ALL THE LIQUIDS AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. WE HAD TO TAKE CARE OF SOME THINGS THEN ON OUR WAY HOME IT WAS SOUNDING HORRIBLE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON, OIL LIGHT AND BATTERY LIGHT. SO I PULLED OVER AND CALLED TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED HOME. I DID NOT WANT TO RISK ANYTHING WORSE, BUT HONESTLY I THINK IT IS THE WORSE FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON FOR WHEN THERE IS NO LEAKS AND ALL FLUIDS ARE FULL.

THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 88,000 MILES ON IT. THE CAR STARTED MAKING TICKING NOISE. THE REPAIR SHOP SAID IT IS THE ENGINE AND IT NEEDS REPLACED. THEY ALSO SAID THIS WAS A VERY COMMON ISSUE ON THESE ENGINES. SAID IT WASN'T WORTH THE COST TO REPLACE. I'M SO ANGRY CAUSE THE CAR STILL SHOULD HAVE ALOT OF LIFE LEFT IN IT. JUST AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR USED WITH 73,349 MILES ON THE ODOMETER ON 7/31/2014 THERE WAS A SLIGHT KNOCK IN THE ENGINE, WHICH SOUNDS LIKE THE PROBLEM THAT LED TO RECALLS ON LATER YEARS MODELS WITH 4 CYLINDER ENGINES, SO I THINK THE PROBLEM STARTED EARLIER. SINCE THERE WAS NO WARRANTY (SOLD AS IS) ON A USED CAR THE DEALER TOLD US REPAIRS WOULD COST MORE THAN JUST REPLACING THE ENGINE, SO I HAD TO PAY $3,000 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. I COMPLAINED TO BOTH THE DEALER (FAIRFAX KIA) AND THE MANUFACTURER WITH NO RESOLUTION.

THIS ENGINE HAS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM OF TICKING COMING FROM THE TOP PART OF THE ENGINE, AND ISSUES WITH OIL INCLUDING BURNING OIL. I PERSONALLY HAVE EXPERIENCED BOTH DESPITE MANY EFFORTS TO TRY TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. MANY OTHER DRIVERS OF THE SAME CAR HAVE HAD THESE SAME ISSUES WHICH HAVE LED TO SCORING IN THE CYLINDERS AND COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE. I MYSELF AM ALSO VERY CLOSE TO ENGINE FAILURE. MANY PEOPLE INCLUDING MYSELF BELIEVE THAT THERE IS AN UNDERLYING ISSUE(S) CAUSING THESE PROBLEMS IN THE THETA II ENGINES. MANY PEOPLE IN CANADA HAVE HAD THEIR ENGINE REPLACED FOR THE SAME PROBLEMS.

I HAD A MILD ENGINE KNOCKING NOISE FOR A SEVERAL WEEKS, BUT JUST HAD AN OIL CHANGE A FEW DAYS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE CAR SEEMED TO BE STRUGGLING TO SHIFT GEARS AND GO. I PULLED OVER AND HEARD TERRIBLE ROD KNOCKING AND ENGINE CLANKING NOISES. I TURNED THE CAR OFF TO CALL MY FATHER AND ASK IF HE THOUGHT I COULD MAKE IT HOME, AND I AGREED TO ATTEMPT IT. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON THE ROD KNOCKING WAS WORSE THAN BEFORE, IT MADE A VERY LOUD CLICKING NOISE WHEN I ACCELERATED, AND THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. I GOT BACK ON THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE STALLED WITHIN MINUTES, IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION.

AFTER AN OIL CHANGE MY ENGINE BEGAN TO KNOCK. OIL CHANGE WAS NOT OVERDUE BY MORE THAN A HUNDRED MILES. OIL LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT TO BE CHANGED THE NEXT DAY. AS I WAS DRIVING HOME, OIL LIGHT BEGAN TO FLICKER AND BY THE TIME I GOT HOME (10 MILES) IT WAS STEADY. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE OIL PLACE. THEY INFORMED ME MY OIL WAS OVERLY SLUDGY AND WERE WORRIED IT MIGHT BE AN ENGINE ISSUE. THEY ALSO FOUND METAL SHAVINGS IN THE PAN. THIS IS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE HAPPENING WITH THE 2011 RECALLS. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME MY CAR IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND I NEED AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT. KIA TOLD ME IT WOULD BE ALMOST 6000 OUT OF POCKET. THIS ENGINE NEEDS TO BE INSPECTED. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY OTHER ISSUE WITH THIS CAR.

MY AIRBAG HAS BEEN ON FOR OVR A YR. TOOK IT TO A DEALER TO GET REPAIRED. THE LIGHT WAS OFF FOR 4 DAYS AND CANE BACK ON AND STAYS ON. BACK AGAIN. AND STILL HAD TO PAY ANOTHER DIAG. FEE. BUT THEY SAID IT WAS FIXED. NOW MY CAR SOUNDS REALLY LOUD...KNOCKING THATS ANNOYING. EVERYTIME I START MY CAR AND DRIVE IT MAKES THAT NOISE. JUST FOUND OUT. KNOCKING IN ENGINE NOTICED WHITE STARTING AND DRIVING. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED LEAVING OIL CHANGE AT 86K MILES (12/27/2018). MOMENTS LATER, VEHICLE WOULDN'T GO ABOVE 60MPH ENTERING HIGHWAY. ALL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH, PULLED OVER ON RAMP AND TURN VEHICLE OFF. VEHICLE WOULDN'T START AND WAS TOWED TO MECHANIC. MECHANIC GOT VEHICLE TO START AND HEARD KNOCKING. IDENTIFIED COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. MECHANIC ADVISED VEHICLE TO BE TOWED TO DEALER DUE TO RECENT ENGINE RECALLS. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND IS PENDING DIAGNOSTIC. I NORMALLY DRIVE TO AND FROM WORK IT TAKES ABOUT 15MINS. WITH TRAFFIC 20MINS. I STAY IN GUAM, ISLAND IS QUITE SMALL 18 MILES WIDE AND 31 MILES LONG. CALLED DEALER ASKED ABOUT RECALL FOR THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM TO BE TOLD NO RECALLS HAVE BEEN FILED BY KIA BASED ON MY VEHICLES VIN NUMBER. SEARCHED THE WEB FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SIMILAR OR SAME PROBLEM. A CLASS ACTION SUIT HAS BEEN FILED IN QUEBEC CANADA ON THIS MATTER FOR KIA FORTE 2010 ENGINE PROBLEMS/LOCKING. I CALLED THE KIA DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT ABOUT THE RECALLS ON KIA MOTORS AND THEY SAID THAT MY ENGINE IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST BUT THAT THERE ARE MANY OF THE SAME MOTORS THAT ARE FAILING AND I WOULD HAVE TO CALL KIA CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO FIND OUT IF MAYBE THEY WILL ADD MY ENGINE. I LOOKED UP MY VEHICLES VIN ON THIS WEBSITE AND WAS NOTIFIED THAT THERE IS NOT CURRENTLY AN OPEN RECALL EVEN THOUGH I HAD JUST READ THAT HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES OF THE SAME MAKE AND ENGINE TYPE (THETA 2) WERE BEING RECALLED FOR CRANKSHAFT ISSUES. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS IF YOU ARE MAKING A LEFT TURN AND YOU LOSE ACCELERATION, YOU CAN BE IN THE WAY OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC BY LOSING POWER. ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO (25,000 MILES OR SO) THE TPS (THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR) WENT OUT. KIA COULD NOT DIAGNOSE IT UNTIL IT THREW A CODE (LAME). NOW WE GET THE SAME ISSUE, THE VEHICLE IS STALLING, OR "STUMBLING" WHEN THE SPEED SHOULD BE CONSTANT OR ACCELERATING, BUT THERE IS NO ENGINE CODE FOR THE CODE READER TO PICKUP YET, SO THE MECHANICS CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO. APPARENTLY THIS IS A PROBLEM ON MANY MODELS OF KIA/HYUNDAI AND THE MECHANICS DON'T RECOGNIZE IT SO THEY CAN'T FIX IT, AND YOU ARE STUCK WITH A DANGEROUS CONDITION.
