The vehicle began experiencing persistent engine misfires and rough running. Fuel contamination was found in the engine oil, and the spark plugs were fouled with oil and fuel. The catalytic converter has become clogged and failed multiple times due to excess fuel and oil entering the exhaust system. The Kia dealership documented these conditions but refused to perform recall-related engine repairs. Kia Consumer Affairs stated the vehicle does not meet warranty extension guidelines and would not repair the engine. Due to fuel in the oil, misfires, overheating exhaust components, and repeated catalytic converter failure, the vehicle is unsafe to drive and presents a potential fire risk.

The contact owns a 2015 Kia Forte. The contact stated while driving 64 MPH, the vehicle jerked and vibrated, and the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle then stalled. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road. Multiple warning lights were illuminated. The contact was assisted with jumpstarting the vehicle. The contact was able to continue driving; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. The check engine warning light illuminated, and the battery light illuminated intermittently. The contact was able to pull into a gas station. The contact called his daughter, who went to the gas station and jumpstarted the vehicle. The contact stopped by Auto Zone to have the vehicle diagnosed, where it was diagnosed and DTCs: P2191, P0562, C1101, C1102, C1201, C1204, C1207, C1208, C1210, C1211, C1237, C1260, C1513, C1613, and C1688 were retrieved. In addition, the battery showed codes that fluctuated constantly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer pending an inspection. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The contact stated that recently the low oil warning light was illuminated, and the fuel level was low; however, the oil level and fuel level were not low. The ABS, traction control, steering, and tire pressure warning lights were illuminated. In addition, the brake warning light failed to function as intended. The contact replaced the brake lights however, the failure persisted. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V750000 (Engine); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 168,000.

Engine burning oil and the recall had to do with the engine burning oil and could cause engine fire while driving. It was under the recall list but the dealership said the time frame for the warranty expired it has been inspected by a auto shop and the said it needs a engine because the engine burned oil really fast and there where no warning

I own a 2015 Kia Forte (VIN: [XXX] ) that experienced complete engine failure. The vehicle had been running normally until it began stalling and sputtering while driving. Shortly after, the engine would only run for 1–2 seconds before shutting off entirely. This exact issue mirrors those documented in previous recalls and class-action lawsuits involving Kia's 2011–2015 models with 2.0L and 2.4L engines. However, despite having the same failure and engine type, my VIN was excluded from the existing recall/warranty extension campaigns. Kia confirmed this is a known issue, but will not cover repairs. This failure occurred at approx. 180,000 miles. Engine failure without warning is a serious safety risk and financial burden. I am filing this complaint so NHTSA can review this issue and evaluate whether additional VINs — like mine — should be included in a broader investigation or recall. A case has been opened with Kia (Case #XXX), and full diagnostic documentation from a certified mechanic is available. Vehicle started making a ticking noise under the hood. I immediately had it towed to a mechanics shop in town. They performed an inspection and said the ticking noise is from a Rod Bearing # 3 has come loose and the whole engine must be replaced. The car has only 108,000 miles. There were no check engine lights that came on either. I called Kia to see about getting a replacement engine from them and they informed me they no longer make that engine for that car anymore which is the 1.6 Liter Turbo Charged GDI 4 Cylinder Engine.

Rod knock in engine, catastrophic failure

Aug 8, 2025

Oil leak with no warning signal what so ever . My car can completely run out of oil and the light won't turn in at all.

Aug 7, 2025

Took care to kis for a recall picked it up and got down the street and it died on me brought it back to Kia and was told it was okay just the oil filter took Kia home and changed oil and filter and car kept going dead would restart but the die again after driving for a little bit. The car kept going dead in middle of road interstate turning into lane across from on going traffic very unsafe. Took care back to Kia the scanned it and checked recall they did and said it was ok took car home again and same problem it now has a loud knock or chattering sound while driving.and it's still going dead. Took care back to Kia again and now they say there is internal engine failure and that I don't have the extended warranty because my mileage is just over the limit for regular warranty. And they will not offer goodwill either because the Internal engine failure. My car drove just fine no problems until I took it to them for the recall and now they say they can't help with nothing. With being disabled and a student I worked really hard to get this car and I need it to get to appointments school and therapy. This has taken away my transportation my happiness and my hard work And effort. It takes a lot to accomplish things being disabled and this makes it even harder. I want to give up most days being able to get to school gave me a purpose and I felt like I belonged. I feel it is only far to have another opinion and to have goodwill being the issue occured after the recall took place. Please help me get my car back and running I've given life and my education my all and my best with what circumstances I have to go through to make it through a day and not having the one things that I earned and worked so hard for taken away from me is really defeating and hard.

[XXX] [XXX] [XXX] 08/07/2025 [XXX] Kia America, Inc. Consumer Affairs P.O. Box 52410 Irvine, CA 92619-2410 Subject: Request for Reconsideration of Engine Replacement – 2015 Kia Forte Dear Kia Customer Care Team, I am writing to formally request a reconsideration regarding the recent denial of assistance for my 2015 Kia Forte ([XXX]), which has experienced a major engine failure at approximately 157,000 miles I was informed by your customer service department that my vehicle is not eligible for the engine replacement under the recall or extended warranty programs due to timing. However, I am aware that Kia has had significant and well-documented issues with the 2.0L GDI engines used in my vehicle model year. The problem in my car appears to be consistent with the same engine defects that have affected countless others — in my case, a serious piston-related failure that now requires a full engine replacement. As a loyal Kia owner who has taken good care of my vehicle, I am incredibly disappointed that such a severe defect would surface and that my only option, per current communication, is to replace the engine at my own expense — something that is financially unfeasible for me. My car has otherwise been well maintained and was expected to last many more miles. I respectfully ask that Kia extend goodwill assistance in this matter. Whether through an extended warranty exception, cost-sharing on the repair, or any alternative solution, I would greatly appreciate any support Kia can offer in helping resolve this issue. I believe in your brand and want to continue to support it, but I also believe this issue is not just due to normal wear and tear. Please reconsider this decision and help me get back on the road safely. I am open to speaking with a representative if more information is needed and look forward to your response. Sincerely, [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The oil light flickered on and off intermittently despite oil in it and was making a cackling noise during acceleration for 2 days then my engine made loud screech noise and smelled like burnt oil and shut off . I had it towed to a mechanic who stated it showed a hole in the engine block .

Jun 25, 2025

I purchased my 2015 Kia Forte5 in May 2024 with just over 50,000 miles. In 2025, I began smelling burning through the air vents while accelerating. I took it to a Kia dealership, paid a $173 diagnostic fee, and was told they completed the KSDS (Knock Sensor Detection System) recall update, but I did not need an engine replacement because “everything looked fine.” They gave me no clear explanation for the burning smell. When I called back and told them the smell hadn’t stopped, they said, “That’s just your oil burning — that’s normal!” and then hung up on me. I contacted 1-800-KIA, and my case was assigned to a woman named Tina. I explained that the dealership didn’t perform a thorough inspection and dismissed a very real concern. Tina sided with the dealership immediately and showed zero care for the danger I described. What Kia called “fine” has now made my car unsafe to drive. The smell has persisted, worsening, and is clearly a fire hazard. This model is under Recall SC200 for engine compartment fire risk, and yet they marked the recall “complete” — just by running a software update. No mechanical inspection or repair was done. After researching NHTSA complaints, I found multiple reports from other Forte5 owners who described this exact burning smell shortly before experiencing complete engine failure or fires. After the KSDS update, Kia advertised a 10-year/150,000-mile warranty for engines. But my vehicle doesn’t hit 10 years until January 2026, and it feels like they’re intentionally dragging this out to avoid honoring the warranty. I reported the issue months in advance, and I believe they’re delaying on purpose so I’ll age out of eligibility while the danger keeps growing. Kia is putting people in danger by closing out recalls without resolving the actual mechanical issues. This really needs urgent investigation and fast. I do not feel safe in this vehicle at all and and it’s stressing me out so much.

I was driving and it’s like the engine just gave out, I waited for a while started it back up and was able to make it home safely.I’m not sure what’s wrong with the engine but there are no lights on the dash on (no check engine)

May 16, 2025

My engine has started knocking and two pistons are not firing correctly. This is a common issue and has possible safety issues connected with it due to having an engine fail while driving.

May 10, 2025

The engine in my 2015 Kia Forte (VIN: [XXX] ) experienced failure tied to recall code P1326, which is associated with bearing wear and potential engine seizure. The vehicle entered limp mode around [XXX] at 152,170 miles, despite early signs of failure starting at 131,000 miles. These included loss of power, rough idle, and a check engine light (CEL) which triggered the P1326 code confirmed by both a pre-scan and Kia dealership. System that failed: The engine and powertrain system. Issue stems from rod bearing wear as identified in Kia’s engine class-action settlement. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: Limp mode drastically reduced engine power on a main road. I could not safely accelerate, which created a hazard in traffic. Additionally, oil loss was confirmed on multiple occasions, and misfire codes were detected. This could have led to engine stall or seizure if I continued driving. Was issue confirmed by a dealer or service center? Yes. Lupient Kia confirmed P1326 at 133,703 miles. Luther Kia later confirmed limp mode and conducted a diagnostic at 152,170 miles. Was vehicle/component inspected by others? Yes. Jiffy Lube documented "no oil on stick" at 130,367 miles. O’Reilly Auto and Economy Muffler later confirmed related secondary issues. Were there symptoms or warnings prior to failure? Yes. CEL appeared at 131,000 miles. Knock sensor was replaced at 131,165 miles. P1326 and oil loss symptoms were consistently documented between April 2024 and April 2025. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2015 Kia Forte. The contact stated while driving uphill at approximately 50-55 MPH, the vehicle started losing motive power and made an abnormal knocking sound. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was restarted. The mechanic diagnosed that the engine was damaged due to rod bearing failure, and metal shavings were found in the engine. The mechanic informed the contact that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V750000 (Engine) and related the failure to the recall. The local dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the recall repair could not be performed because the engine had already failed; however, the contact stated that the recall repair involved the replacement of the engine assembly as necessary. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 149,061. Parts distribution disconnect.

Oct 25, 2024

The engine lost pressure while being driven on the interstate. My daughter was able to pull over and then the car began to smoke. She and a passenger immediately exited the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the nearest shop and was diagnosed with engine failure. My daughter indicated that no check engine light illuminated nor did the temperature gauge note that the vehicle was overheating, but it just began to lose pressure even when she tried to accelerate. I was researching cost to have the engine replaced and came across other Forte owner's testimony that they have had engine problems as well, but the Forte was not listed under the Kia recall for engine issues. But perhaps, it should be.

Engine malfunctioned while driving vehicle on busy street. There were no engine lights on prior to malfunction. Oil change and routine maintenance was completed. Unknown if problem is reproduced, just word of mouth that other Kia have had problems with engines. No inspections completed.

Jun 29, 2024

I have already filled out one of these forms a couple of years ago. It is absolutely ridiculous that every 2011-2015 Kia Forte engine has been recalled, but mine has not. My engine completely blew up a few years ago. It has the exact same problem all these other engines have. I called Kia and asked them to help me replace it bc the issue is exactly the same and they refused. A con-rod warped and then broke and it shot through the bottom of my engine. The rod could have shot back into the inside of the car. God forbid my daughter would be in my car and that happens. I had to replace the engine and the turbo which isn’t cheap at all. Then because of the strain of all of that, it made my transmission go out which has now been replaced. All of these other engines have the exact same problem. It’s the same problem as the 2.0L, but I guess because mine is a 1.6L and it’s a manual transmission, mine hasn’t been recalled yet? The only reason I’m making another report is because my check engine light is on, AGAIN, and the new engine in my car is starting to experience the exact same issues as my last one. Literally every other type of Kia Forte engine has been recalled except for my. I would like a recalled to be issued and a refund of the money I have sunk into this car. I can’t sell it because I owe too much on it, so the only option is to fix it. At this point I have put more than double the amount of money into this car than it’s even worth. Something needs to be done here. I’m really not trying to wait around until it blows up again and I have to replace another engine. I know I’m just one person, but there has to be other complaints like this.

On approximately, 04/15/2024, 8:00 am, My 2015 Kia Forte with less 115,000 miles suddenly shut down going 65 MPH! A severe accident was avoided by manhandling the steering wheel to get it to the side of the road. When I called the Kia's Consumer Affair, to report the incident, I was told there was no recall on the motor so they were not labile. I am very frustrated, upset and stressed that Kia's doesn't care about it reputation.

Purchased the car certified preowned from a Kia dealer with 45,000 miles on it, meaning I would have the the remaining 55,000 miles of the 100,000 mile powertrain coverage. At 77,000 miles a small ticking noise started on the way to work and became a knock on the way home. I pulled over where it was safe and towed it to the dealer. They replaced the engine under warranty. Now at 154,000 everything has been running great except for burning oil rather quickly. Where I get my oil changes done offers free top-offs so I would return frequently to make certain the oil level was always in the safe zone. Driving home from work one night, I was on a busy freeway when suddenly and without warning a small squeak noise came from the engine and it stalled. Luckily I just happened to be in the right lane and there happened to be a narrow but safe shoulder to coast over to. Had this happened while I was close to the fast lane, the consequences could’ve been dire. The engine would not hardly turn over and would not start. I had it towed to my mechanic who said it sounds like a serious engine problem and you should contact the dealer. I towed it to the local Kia dealership where the service department informed me that there was an extended 50,000 mile warranty added to the original 100,000 warranty (which I was never notified about) but since I was 4,000 miles over I did not qualify. This means the replacement engine quit after 77,000 miles just like the original. I feel that they should in good faith honor the warranty - had I been informed I could brought the car in just 4,000 miles earlier and they would’ve checked the compression and determined that the rings were failing which is why it used so much oil, and they would’ve replaced this second engine under warranty.

Full engine failure at around 110,000 miles. Metal shavings in oil. Car stalls suddenly when driving. Unsafe to drive.

Apr 8, 2024

Over the last 5 years that I have owned the vehicle, the engine will stall when idle or at low speeds. This has happened at stop lights, on hills and while on the highway (which is obviously very dangerous). The engine the vehicle has to be turned off and restarted and usually it will stall again within a few minutes. For the most part, this happens after the vehicle has been driven for at least 15-20 minutes and there are few issues at higher speeds. As such, when taken to the dealer, they have been unable to replicate the issue. The issue is sometimes resolved after an oil change, however it may recur before the next oil change is due (ie within 3 months). The vehicle has otherwise had it's recommended service Many internet searches note many vehicles of my model and many other Kia's with the exact same issue

Engine shuts off while driving

Nov 3, 2023

The engine in my car began failing at 60,000 mile despite having all maintenance records. The KIA dealership expressed that this is happening to many similar cars and a recall was issued for a similar engine to mine with the same issue. They expressed that the engine could seize up while driving and cause a wreck unless I purchase a new/used one to put into my car. Again all routine maintenance was kept up to date.

Car has same issues for 4 years, shaking, stalling, loosing speed while driving. Check engine light on. Light knocking noise while driving can’t go above 45 miles an hour. Also 3 times car smelled like electrical burning. But was told by Kia nothing wrong with engine

Oct 13, 2023

My daughter was driving it and all of a sudden the engine light came on then the oil it started to loose power so she pulled over right away so we had it towed to a mechanic and the motor needs to be replaced. We never had problems at all with it until then its been well taken care of.

Three years ago, I took my car to 2 separate kia dealers regarding the knocking in engine. Both said it's "normal". I told them then that they wouldn't sell the car with it knocking. I was contacted in 2022 by credit karma of a safety recall regarding brakes. Another recall was from kia regarding safety from vehicles easily being stolen. I cleared these 2 safety recalls on my vehicle, but I am still being told nothing is wrong with the knocking I hear under the hood. My vin# states my car isn't affected, but I think it is. My brand of car should be included in this recall. Thank you

Car lost power, stalled in traffic at a stoplight on a slight incline, rolled back into another vehicle. Have been having repeated problems with stalling. Have taken it to 3 dealerships, none of whom have done anything beyond oil changes. They've even refused to scan it. Kia says it should be under warranty for a new engine after KSDS update, then says it's not. We've been lucky not to have injuries so far because it's done this stalling thing multiple times in traffic.

I start to notice the lamp as well as a knocking sound in October of 2022 I was concerned so I took it to a local mechanic and was told that this particular model car was on a recall for engine fire hazard. He then advised me to call the dealership I purchased the vehicle from. I then called them to let them know what is going on with the car, the employee tells me they can't do the work and referred me to another dealership that's a larger facility. To my knowledge of doing research, I then found out that the engine can catch fire when shut off or in process of being driven so it's very dangerous regarding me and my family. I then called the dealership and they asked for my VIN number, they then tell me yes, this car has 3 different recalls that are showing, and I made an appointment to have it inspected on Jan 2 of 2023 and I took my car to the dealership, and they confirmed I need a new engine. They then told me they will not repair my vehicle. I've never gotten anything in the mail stating there was a recall on any of the parts for my KIA 2015 until the knocking from the engine and the lamp coming on and was told by a local mechanic that there's a recall on this model.

Was driving to work and heard a sound of metal as if something fell from the car. Looked back in my rear view to see a trail of fluid. Pulled over immediately and the car started to stall out at the same time. Called a tow. They advised to contact police and fire in case it was gas. Fire department came and confirmed it was oil. I had gotten my oil changed two weeks prior at valvoline. Towed the car home where it sat. Called valvoline and they sent a technician to confirm the oil dispersed throughout the engine bay. Lifted the car to redo the oil change and witnessed oil leaking from the engine with no seals/caps missing. Towed to a local mechanic where it was found that a bearing went out- rod shot through the engine. Confirming the noise I heard last week. When looking through KBB - showed recall for Forte engine issues 2012-2015. Case started with KIA

Engine Oil over pressure caused my oil filter to explode oil in to my engine compartment. Destroyed my engine as well. My car is not listed in the recall list for cars with this exact same problem.

Oct 1, 2022

The oil plug in my vehicle came out on it's own after parking. The oil fell out of my vehicle. An oil change was then done and too much oil was put back in. Another oil change was done a few days later to fix the excessive amount of oil the Kia service department put in and when they were prepping for it, they noticed that the oil plug was finger tight and on the verge of falling out again. The engine is ruined according to the Kia dealership. No warning lamps came on during this process until the oil plug actually came out of the vehicle. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership and a third party mechanic. Within two weeks, my oil plug came out completely once and almost fell off another time. The dealership is refusing warranty coverage and recommending I do NOT file a complaint on the vehicle malfunction.

I recently inherited this car from my mother and it appears that the engine may have issues. There is a loud noise that comes from the engine intermittently. It is louder at times then other times. The oil level is fine and recent. I've done a lot of research and it appears this is a common problem for the 2.0 engine. I feel as though this could turn into a bigger scenario if something is not done for the lack of expense a person must put into these engines.

experienced engine knocking noise when driving on freeways, and it got progressively louder as time went on. brought the issue to the local Kia dealership and it was resolved at the time, but wanted to report the incident so NHTSA can document this. thanks.

Engine burning through oil FAST, possible engine fire.

Apr 22, 2022

Was just told about recalls for oil leaks and I’m concerned about my daughter driving the car and the engine catching on fire as it seems this has happened to many of the 2015 Kia Forte’s and I haven’t received a recall, but seem to have all the same problems has the people who have had recalls on the same model car.

The car started to smoke and caught on fire not even 2 from My house I had called and scheduled a appointment for the recall butt kia set the date to far away I only had the car for maybe 2 weeks not even 150000 miles on it

Mar 2, 2022

I want to preface this by saying my car (2015 Kia Forte5 EX) has been burning or leaking oil for a while now and no one I brought it to could ever figure out where. I brought it in for the recall check up a few months ago and they claimed to not find anything either. A couple of weeks ago I noticed a fairly loud ticking or knocking noise coming from my engine, I thought that maybe my oil was low even though I had just gotten it changed 2 weeks prior but I checked it and it was fine. Fast forward a few days and I get a prompt on my navigation screen to immediately have the car services and my check engine light started blinking. I brought it in to my local Kia dealership and today they told me that the engine is unfixable, and that they determined that it was something that should be covered under the warranty. But when they submitted the claim to Kia, Kia denied it. I am currently waiting on hold with Kia's customer service to file a complaint and hopefully resolve the issue but I thought I'd submit a claim here as well because Kia has been sued a number of times over the last decade for this exact reason.

Feb 25, 2022

My car consistently is running out of and low on oil which is affecting my engine and how it runs. My car did break down and now Kia is performing an engine test over 3000 miles but have not recalled the engine/car even though they've told me this is a common issue with these cars. Prior to the breakdown, there were no warning lamps or messages for me to know this was happening.

The cylinder 3 connecting rod broke and shot a hole through my engine block. It also sucked metal pieces into my turbo and damaged my starter. This is the exact same issue that the 2.0 liter engines have and yet I have to pay out of pocket for my repairs. I was on the interstate going 70 mph when this happened. What if instead of shooting down, it shot back towards me? What if my child was in the car? Now Kia won’t cover this and I think they should. I took the car to multiple mechanics and not one of them told me this could happen. The check engine light kept coming on, I kept being told to replace the spark plugs and the ignition coils and it never resolved my issue. These were Kia certified dealers. Now one of these Kia certified dealers wants to charge me $13,000 to replace the engine and the turbo. That’s more than the car is worth and now I’m stuck with the car payment of a car that failed and not bc of my own doing.

Jan 31, 2022

Every few months my car won’t crank. I have to get it towed to the dealership. They normally change the spark plugs and it runs again. Recently, they changed the spark plugs but I was also told that I had an engine oil leak(which is very hazardous), oil is leaking onto my engine which is causing my spark plugs to burn out so quick. They claimed they didn’t know what was causing it and told me I would have to wait until my car breaks down completely before being able to know exactly what’s causing it. Informed me that changing the spark plugs is only a temporary fix and I would go through this process again(my car not cranking and spark plugs needing to be replaced).

The dealer did state that Kia would reimburse me for towing and a rental car (will not pay taxes or insurance for a rental car) eventually after car is repaired. I do not have the financial resources to pay for a rental car upfront for an unknown time period. The dealer stated they only have one loaner car, which they will not loan to me. I brought it in with the check engine light on as it was on listed conditions for the recall and when i was told everything passed i still had a check engine light and excessive burning of oil. The engine is not working properly and wasn't rectified during the recall process. I am afraid with how much oil it is burning it may lead to a fire in the engine compartment. DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE ABOUT 70 MILES PER HOUR VEHICLE IN MOTION IT STARTED DRIVING DIFFERENT I PULLED OVER TO GET GAS ANYWAYS AND NOTICED BLACK SOOT ALONG BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE IT WAS RAINING THAT NIGHT I DIDN'T REALLY THINK TOO MUCH OF IT I GOT HOME I TALKED TO A MECHANIC THAT'S A FRIEND AND HE NAME SEVERAL THINGS I DECIDED TO GOOGLE IT AND SAW THAT MY KIA FORTE IS ON THE RECALL LIST FOR THE MOTOR CAUSING FIRES AND MOTOR FAILURE

THE ENGINE BEGAN, WITHOUT WARNING, CONSUMING THE OIL. THE ENGINE THEN BEGAN MAKING A KNOCKING NOISE THAT IS NOW IRREPARABLE WITHOUT REPLACEMENT. THIS KNOCKING NOISE, DUE TO LOW OIL, WAS NOT PRECEDED BY THE "OIL LIGHT," AS I HAD RECENTLY RECEIVED AN OIL CHANGE. THE CAR NOW STRUGGLES TO ACCELERATE AND I HAVE TO ADD OIL EVERY 2 WEEKS OR SO. THIS IS A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH OTHER KIA MODELS, WITH THE SAME ENGINE, THAT WILL BE INVOLVED IN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IN JANUARY 2021.

WE WERE NOT EXPERIENCING ANY ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK IN THE CITY AND THE CAR STOPPED RUNNING DUE TO ENGINE ISSUES. IT APPEARS TO BE EXACTLY WHAT IS IN THE RECENT RECALL BUT OUR CAR IS NOT INCLUDED. THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK THAT WAS NOT NOTICEABLE AT ALL.

VEHICLE EXPERIENCES ENGINE POWER LOSS AS LOW AND HIGHWAY SPEEDS. ENGINE POWER LOSS IS ACCOMPANIED BY PLUME OF OIL SMOKE FROM EXHAUST, MOMENTARY CHECK ENGINE AND LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT. LOSS OF ENGINE POWER RESULTS IN RAPID ENGINE DECELERATION OF VEHICLE UNTIL STOPPED AT WHICH POINT THE ENGINE REGAINS POWER. VEHICLE HAS RECEIVED MAINTENANCE IN ACCORDANCE WITH MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE CYCLE.

WHILE DRIVING, MY CAR JUST SHUT OFF AND WASN'T WORKING. I WAS UNABLE TO START IT AGAIN. NO OIL LIGHTS, NO ENGINE LIGHTS, OR ANY OTHER WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON PRIOR TO IT DYING. THE DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME THERE IS NO OIL IN THE MOTOR AND I AM NOT UNDERSTANDING. I HAD THE OIL CHANGED EVERY 3-5,000 MILES. THE CAR SHOULDN'T HAVE STOPPED OPERATING WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS. THE CAR WAS IN MOTION WHEN IT ABRUPTLY SHUT OFF. I WAS TRAVELING ON A CITY STREET DURING THAT TIME.

I GAD TO TAKE A SLIGHT DETOUR BEFORE GOING DOWN THE ROAD AND MY CAR COMPLETELY SHUTTING OFF AND HAVING ALL THE LIGHTS ON MY DASH POP UP. AFTER I PULLED INTO A SAFE PARKING SPOT MY CAR WOULD NOT TURN ON AT ALL. THE ENGINE KEPT MAKING A TICKING NOISE. I HAD TO BE TOWED TO A SHOP THEN TO MY HOUSE!! THE CAR STATS ON FOR 10 SECONDS BEFORE SHUTTING OFF! WHY IS THIS NOT BEING RECALLED. I HAVE SEEN STORIES AND SIMILAR COMMENTS TO MINE. THIS IS RIDICULOUS NOW MY CAR HAS BEEN SITTING FOR TWO MONTHS

THE VEHICLE MILEAGE IS CURRENTLY AT 115,446 . AT APPROXIMATELY 110,000 MILES VEHICLE STARTED WITH A VERY LOUD COLD START. NOT ONLY WAS IT LOUD BUT IT WAS ROUGH WITH A HIGH RPM. I KNOW THEY CALL IT COLD START FOR A REASON BUT THIS IS NOT COMMON WITH OTHER VEHICLES I OWNED THAT WERE 2015S. NOW THE VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A TICKING OR KNOCKING NOISE. CURRENTLY THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE AND WITH THE OTHER COMPLAINTS THAT ARE MATCHING EXACTLY UP TO MINE WHY ISNT THIS PROBLEM BEING INVESTIGATED OR RECALLED? IF AND WHEN THIS VEHICLE SEIZES ON ME LIKE EVERY COMPLAINT ON HERE I WILL UPDATE. THERE IS SUPPOSEDLY A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR THIS YEAR MAKE AND MODEL BUT NOT A SINGLE RECALL. NOT EVEN AN INVESTIGATION? PLEASE UPDATE US AND PREVIOUS OWNERS OF THE COMPLAINTS WHAT STEPS YALL ARE TAKING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.

WE ONLY BOUGHT THIS CAR 8 MONTHS AGO WITH 70,000 MILES ON THE ENGINE. WE NOTICED THE ENGINE SEEMED TO BE LOSING POWER AFTER ABOUT 4 MONTHS. THEN LAST WEEK THE CAR ABRUPTLY SHRIEKED AND STOPPED WHILE WE WERE DRIVING. AFTER WHICH, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO KNOCK, AND WE HAD IT TOWED TO A LOCAL KIA DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD US WE WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE AND THE KNOCK WAS COMING FROM THE LOW END. WE HAVE RELIGIOUSLY SERVICED THE VEHICLE, AND THE CAR ONLY HAD 80,000 MILES WHEN THE ENGINE BLEW. CLEARLY THIS IS A FAILURE OF THE MANUFACTURER, BUT BECAUSE WE ARE NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNERS, KIA REFUSES TO PROVIDE THE REPAIRS THEY KNOW THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR.

NO LEAKS WERE DETECTED. 1000 MILES LATER HEAR A CLANKING SOUND AND WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT IN THE DRIVEWAY AND CAR SHUT OFF. WHEN I TRIED TO START IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER AND WHEN I LOOKED UNDER HOOD THERE WAS A SPARK. LOOKED TO BE NO OIL PUT IN 2 QUARTS AND LET IT SIT OVER NIGHT. CHECKED OIL AGAIN BEFORE ADDING ANYMORE & LEVELS WERE FINE. MECHANIC SAID ENGINE WAS DONE. THE OIL IS GOING SOMEWHERE & THIS MODEL HAS A TOYOTA ENGINE, SO I THINK SOMETHING ELSE IS GOING ON. PRIOR TO THE ENGINE INCIDENT I WAS EXPERIENCING THE LIGHTS FLICKERING , POWER WINDOW MALFUNCTIONS. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 6/21/2020(FATHER'S DAY MORNING). I WAS ON MY WAY TO THE STORE WHEN MY CARS ENGINE SEIZED SUDDENLY. I RECENTLY HAD MY OIL CHANGED IN 4/03/2020. NO PROBLEMS REPORTED AT THE OIL CHANGE APPOINTMENT. SO THE MORNING OF 6/21/2020. I STARTED THE CAR AND PROCEEDED TO LEAVE MY BOYFRIENDS HOUSE. AS SOON AS I MADE THE LEFT TURN OUT INTO THE STREET I HEARD THIS KNOCKING IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR I'M ASSUMING THAT WAS THE ENGINE THEN SUDDENLY ! THE CAR MADE THIS LOUD GRINDING NOISE AND I IMMEDIATELY EXPERIENCED LOSS OF POWER WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION AND THE CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET AS SOON AS I MADE THE LEFT HAND TURN INTO THE STREET THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AS IF THE CAR WAS ABOUT TO CATCH FIRE ! THANK GOD ME AND MY BOYFRIEND WERE ABLE TO PUSH THE CAR OUT OF THE STREET INTO A PARKING LOT IN NUETRAL. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TOWED TO A SHOP USING MY INSURANCE AND I HAD TO LEAVE IT AT THE SHOP OVERNIGHT IN THEIR PARKING LOT BECAUSE THEY WERE CLOSED FOR FATHER'S DAY. THE NEXT DAY I GET A CALL FROM THE SHOP AND THEY SAID THEY TRIED TO JUMPSTART IT, THE CHECKED THE BATTERY, OIL LEVEL, AND THEY SAID THE REASON FOR THE ENGINE FAILURE WAS NOT OIL RELATED THEY SAID IT WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I HAD TO GO AND AND LOOK FOR AN ENGINE TO REPLACE THE FAILED ENGINE. IT COSTS ME ALOOOOOOT OF MONEY ! I ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR 2 YEARS. I GOT IT AT A DEALERSHIP BUT MY WARRANTY EXPIRED SO I WAS UNABLE TO REPAIR IT THROUGH THE WARRANTY. THE CAR JUST HIT 87,000 MILES ! I GOT THE CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP AT 54,000 MILES. I DO NOT DRIVE LONG DISTANCES, I KEEP UP WITH ALL THE MAINTENANCE ON MY CAR AND MY ENGINE SUDDENLY FAILED ! HELP !! THIS PROBLEM IS TOO COMMON AMONGST THE KIA FORTES. I HAVE A 2015 KIA FORTE5.

I AM NOW COMING AWARE THAT THE ISSUES LISTED ABOVE HAVE BEEN SUBJECT TO MANY RECALLS FOR THE EXACT SAME ENGINE AS MINE, HOWEVER I LEARNED THIS INFORMATION THOUGH A THIRD PARTY TECHNICIAN. NOT ONCE DID THE DEALERSHIP MENTION IT. I LOOKED FURTHER AND FOUND SEVERAL CASES ON MANY ONLINE KIA FORUMS OF PEOPLE CLAIMING TO HAVE THE SAME ISSUES WITH THE SAME ENGINE. I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 8 IN SAN DIEGO,CA AND I HEARD A LOUD RATTLING NOISE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT LIT UP AND THE ENGINE DIED AND I WAS LUCKY TO BE ABLE TO COAST THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY KIA DEALERSHIP IN EL CAJON, CA. THEY LOOKED AT IT AND TOLD ME MY ENGINE SEIZED AND THE ENGINE WAS BLOWN. I BOUGHT THIS CAR 11 MONTHS AGO AS A CPO AND IT IS WITHIN THE WARRANTY OF 10 YRS/100,000 MILES. I'VE ONLY PUT 21,000 MILES ON IT. THEY ARE ASKING FOR MY MAINTENANCE RECORDS AND ARE HAVING A SPECIAL INVESTIGATOR TO COME OUT ON 7/31/2018 TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE. I HAVE HAD ONE OIL CHANGE DONE AT THE DEALER IN JANUARY OF 2018, THE REST OF THE OIL CHANGES I DID ON MY OWN. THE LAST OIL CHANGE WAS JUST 2 WEEKS AGO. THE DEALERSHIP IS NOW TELLING ME THAT IT'S UP TO THE INVESTIGATOR TO DECIDE IF THE ENGINE WAS DEFECTIVE AND IF THEY'LL COVER MY ENGINE UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. WHEN I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALER IN JANUARY 2018, I INFORMED THE MECHANIC THAT THERE WAS A KNOCKING/PINGING NOISE IN THE ENGINE, HE TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS NORMAL. THEY NEVER DOCUMENTED MY COMPLAINT. AFTER READING ABOUT ALL THE PROBLEMS WITH THESE ENGINES AND HOW KIA IS HANDLING THESE PROBLEMS, I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THEY'LL HONOR THE WARRANTY. I AM MAKING CAR LOAN PAYMENTS ON THIS CAR AND CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY FOR A NEW ENGINE WHILE THE BATTLE OVER THESE ENGINES PLAY OUT IN THE COURTS, YOUR INVESTIGATIONS AND THE RECENT FBI INVOLVEMENT. THE DEALER NEVER INFORMED ME OF POSSIBLE PROBLEMS WITH THESE ENGINES. I NEVER WOULD'VE PURCHASED THIS CAR. PLEASE HELP, I AM CONCERNED THAT THE INVESTIGATOR WILL FALSIFY WHAT IS FOUND IN THE ENGINE UPON INVESTIGATION.

MY CAR LIGHT CAME ON INDICATING I NEED OIL IN MY 2015 KIA FORTE. AFTER PUTTING ON IN MY CAR IT BEGAN TO STALL. I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF DRIVING IT HOME AND THE CAR COMES TO A SCREECHING STOP ON BRECKENRIDGE LN, IN LOUISVILLE KY. I STARTED THE CAR BACK UP AND BEGAN TO DRIVE SOME MORE THE CAR DID IT AGAIN. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT NO ONE RAN INTO THE BACK OF ME AS THE CAR STOPPED ALL OF THE SUDDEN AS IF SOMEONE HAD PUSHED ON THE BRAKES. AS I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND BEGAN TO DRIVE A FEW YARDS DOWN THE ROAD THE CAR CUT OFF AND I WAS LUCKY THAT I DRIFTED INTO A ABANDONED GAS STATION ONLY TO HAVE THE CAR NO START BACK UP. *TR

WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATES FROM A STOP, THERE IS SEVERE VALVE PINGING SOUND. KIA MOTORS AMERICA IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE, BUT ARE NOT TAKING ANY STEPS TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE "AS IT DOES NOT DO ANYTHING TO THE CAR". THE NOISE IS VERY SEVERE ON THE 2015 FORTE AND IT IS A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN OF THE CAR. THE WIND NOISE AND THE VALVE PING MAKE THE CAR VERY LOUD. THE DEALER SAYS THAT SINCE KIA MOTORS AMERICA IS NOT ADDRESSING THE ISSUE, NOTHING CAN BE DONE. KIA MOTORS AMERICA HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS ISSUE FOR YEARS BUT HAVE FAILED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT AS THEY ARE DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS. RECOMMENDATIONS INCLUDE UPGRADING TO BETTER GAS, BUT THE NOISE STILL PERSISTS. KIA RECOMMENDS AND ADVERTISES REGULAR UNLEADED FOR THE FORTE, BUT A MORE EXPENSIVE PLUS OR PREMIUM GRADE IS NEEDED TO DECREASE THE SOUND OF THE PING. THERE IS AN ADDITIONAL ADDED EXPENSE TO THE CAR THAT KIA FAILS TO ADDRESS.
