We have the Arctic Snow white color on our Kia. The paint began peeling shortly after our purchase in 2016. It has continued to peel throughout the entire time we have owned the vehicle.
Paint is failing due to improper preparation during production. The vehicle is available for inspection if requested. The paint was inspected by licensed and lifetime collision repair specialist. Paint can not simply be touched up. Entire car needs stripped to bare metal and repainted to fix issue. Other manufacturers have had recalls for this same issue. Why has Kia not been held accountable for this?
White paint on roof and around door is flaking off in large sections. No accident. Not covered under warranty. Appears to be a known issue with Snow White Pearl paint on Kia vehicle - widespread paint failure can affect visibility, resale value, and long-term corrosion.
The car is a 2015 model and as shown in the pictures, the paint on the tail is damaged. This is a defect of the manufacturer.
The paint on my 2015 Kia Optima is severely peeling off, especially on the trunk, hood, and driver-side pillar. The passenger side also has some peeling. This is not a minor cosmetic issue — it significantly affects the vehicle’s appearance and long-term durability. Many other owners of this model have reported the same issue, indicating a widespread paint defect. I contacted Kia through several official channels and received no response. I believe this is a manufacturer defect and should be addressed as a broader consumer issue.
Factory Paint Defect Inherent, known to KIA models 2015 Optima Snow White Pearl Paint SWP. (including 2013 thru 2017 all share the same identical paint code). Citrus KIA in California inspected my vehicle and confirmed the paint damages are a known inherent factory paint defect. This is a nation wide issue, thousands of owners continue reporting this inherent paint defect on their Optima SWP. Basically this is an issue with all car manuacture's with white paint. Toyota and Hyundai accepted responsibility for this same factory paint defect and is repairing their customers vehicles. Class Actions Lawsuits have been filed against KIA and Hyandai for this known factory paint defect with severe safety concerns. This paint defect expanded into the layered glass of the windshield causing the adhesive to bubble. Insufficient adhesive could detach it during a crash or break while driving. The large chunks of paint continuing to fall off even while driving could impair visability to myself and other drivers. Citrus KIA inspected my vehicle and confirmed the damages to my vehicle are caused by this known factory paint defect. Wrote me an estimate reopened my case originally report 6/2024. Corporate KIA closed my case with the explanation 3/36k paint warrant expired. This is not a paint warranty issue. This is damages caused to my vehicle and thousands of others with this same inherent factory paint defect known to KIA. It is the manufactures responsibility to make this right. This inherent defect continues to rapidly spread through out our vehicles, causing further damages. These untreated areas now have rust subject to corrision which will lead to integrity of the body structure. Please recall this inherent factory paint defect. It's over whelming how many owners continue reporting this to their dealers, posting pictures of their ruined vehicles. We need help. Please recall SWP of Optima 2013 thru 17 with no limitations how old or amount of miles. Thank you
Paint has been chipping on this SNOW white pearl has gotten progressively worse. Cannot wash the vehicle without more paint chipping.
This is about paint damage on my Optima is a known factory paint defect. This factory paint defect, specifically paint delamination causes bubbling, peeling then flaking off in large chunks while driving, has been reported on 2015 KIA Optima with white pearl paint. The damages ares are exposed to the metal, subject to rust and corrosion. On 5/30/35 KIA in Ontario, Ca. Body Shop Manager Yvonne Ramirez inspected my vehicle and immediately confirmed the paint damages to the exterior of my vehicle is a known factory paint defect on 2015 Optima with white paint. Yvonne instructed me to contact Corporate KIA, report the case, receive a claim # then contact her to schedule an appointment for the repair. On June 3, 2025 KIA reopened case number [XXX] originally reported on June 11, 2024. No claim # issues, no repairs made. Safety Concern: The paint damage has affected both sides of the adhesive inside the glass securing the windshield. This is a nation wide problem. Owners have documented and continue to keep reporting this problem to KIA, NHTSA, AutoLine and BBB. Several class-action lawsuits have been filed against KIA in USA and Canada. This is also happening to Toyota, Honda & Subaru. It’s basically all the car manufacturers who are using this pearl white paint. The amount of Optima owners dealing with the massive rapidly spreading paint defect to their vehicle is over whelming. December 2023 my 2015 KIA Optima SXT Pearl White beautiful exterior paint began to bubble, peel, flake followed by large chunks of paint falling off even while driving. This started on the roof top right and left of the rear window. February 2024 - the same paint damages started on the right and left sails/pillars next to the front wind shield and is causing damage, bubbling and spreading through out the left and right side of the glass. It is a safety concern. March 2025 - the same paint damage started on the top right truck with huge chunks of paint falling off while driving.HELP INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INF
Paint is peeling
Bubbling and painting chipping on the driver door, passenger driver's side door, at the top roof at all doors, around the front mirror, and passenger and back passenger door. Pearl white paint. I believe the ENTIRE kia needs to repainted and fixing one spot is not the solution!! This includes the top of the car and racks on top if your car has them.
The paint on the vehicle is separating from the body. This vehicle is available for inspection at any time. The paint begins to peel and break off when it rains, and it washes into the drains. From there, it ends up on the grass where my young child plays, potentially getting on his hands and into his mouth. Additionally, animals like birds are picking at the paint on the grass. My insurance has verified this problem, and there were no prior signs that indicated any issues. Recently, following a storm, water started bubbling up beneath the paint, causing it to crack and eventually blow off. It started in a small area but with every rain gets worse.
On October 10th 2024, my 2015 Kia Optima caught fire while I was driving. The fire originated from the engine compartment, completely engulfing the vehicle in flames within minutes. Component/System Failure: The exact cause of the fire is unknown, but Kia had previously issued a recall for this model due to an engine defect that posed a fire risk. The vehicle is no longer available for inspection as it was completely destroyed in the fire. However, I have multiple videos documenting the incident, including footage of the fire and the aftermath. Safety Risk: My safety and the safety of others were severely compromised. The fire started suddenly while I was driving, forcing me to evacuate the vehicle immediately. If I hadn’t reacted quickly, I could have suffered serious injuries or worse. Additionally, the fire posed a danger to other drivers and pedestrians nearby. Reproduction/Confirmation: The issue has not been reproduced, but it aligns with the recall Kia issued for this model. Prior to the fire, I attempted to schedule an appointment with Kia to address the recall, but I never received confirmation, and no inspection was performed. Inspections: After the incident, I contacted Kia, and they sent an investigator to inspect the remains of the vehicle. No police or insurance representatives conducted an independent inspection. Warning Signs: There were no warning lights, messages, or obvious signs of a problem immediately before the fire. However, I had previously noticed a recall related to fire risk for my specific model and attempted to schedule an appointment with Kia, but they never responded. Given Kia’s history of engine fire recalls, I strongly believe this incident is related to the known defects in this vehicle model.
Pearl paint has been peeling more and more especially when washing my vehicle. This shouldn't be happening and i see similar paint issues with other Kia and Hyundai models. I need Kia to take accountable and responsibly for their defect.
The snow-white pearl paint is peeling off - this is a common problem, and the paint is flaking off - not adhering to the base material - seems like a factory defect. This will be a huge re-paint cost to be fixed, and it is just getting worse over time
vehicle paint is peeling severely
White pearl paint is chipping all around the car. At times big chucks of paint just flake off
The paint is coming off in chunks anywhere from an inch to 5 inches at a time. Not from rock chips.
I purchased a brand new Kia from an authorized Kia dealership. The vehicle in question is a 2015 Kia Optima, white pearl in color. Since its purchase, I have maintained this vehicle ensuring that it is serviced regularly at authorized Kia service centers and taking all necessary steps to protect its exterior. Despite these efforts, I have recently observed a drastic deterioration in the paint quality of my vehicle. Specifically, the paint on my Kia Optima has been peeling extensively in several areas, including the roof, hood, and trunk. This issue not only affects the vehicle's aesthetic appeal but also raises concerns about the potential for further deterioration and damage to the underlying metal, which could lead to rust and other long-term issues. I have conducted some research and discovered that paint peeling issues are not uncommon with vehicles of this model and color. It appears that this problem may be linked to a manufacturing defect, particularly with the application and adhesion of the paint. I believe this to be a defect that falls under Kia's responsibility, as the paint should reasonably be expected to last much longer under normal use and care conditions.
I have a 2015 kia that is snow/pearl white paint and it has been chipping since a year after I bought it new.
White pearl paint peeling off, all over hood, etc
My paint started fading then the exterior metal layer on the roof started to chip off

2015 KIA OPTIMA WHITE PEAR PAINT JOB DELAMINATION ON HOOD, TRUNK SIDE PANELS BY WINDOWS AND FRONT AND BACK WINDSHIELDS. AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION, HAS BEEN INSPECTED. NATIONAL PROBLEM, INSPECTED BY KIA DEALER REFERRED BODY SHOP. FIRST TIME APPEARED VERY VISIBLE 1 YEAR 1/2 AGO. The paint on my vehicle has been bubbling and chipping off for years. I did buy my vehicle used and was a certified pre owned. It was in great condition at the time of purchase. The paint became a problem soon after owning the vehicle. I didn’t think much of it till it continued to peel off more and rust in certain areas. I noticed more vehicles like mine had the same problem. I began looking into it and seen that others were complaining of the same issue as mine online. I did contact Kias main corporate office and they wanted estimates and pictures. I did not go thru with this because they said it was a process to even get approved and if they approved it they would only paint certain parts, and not the whole car. I figured why paint parts if the same paint was used originally to paint the entire car then chips could happen anywhere else. And if paint was approved on certain areas I could only file once and to me that didn’t seem worth it at the time so I decided to see if this would become a recall and have been waiting patiently. Im very unhappy with KIA regarding this issue. It’s clearly a problem amongst multiple customers. I have this nice car and it’s embarrassing to drive like this. I hope this message reaches someone who will do something about this. Thank you
Pearl white paint is peeling off in chunks. Not normal.
Windows were broken and steering column was broken in to. Car was stolen and spray painted the seats and front end was smashed.Car was totaled
The concern is more of a cosmetic issue than mechanical. The paint or primer has a defect which is causing my vehicle to peel from the paint throughout the panels. Kia did decline the roof pillar when it first started but then the hood & left rear door is peeling. I paid out of pocket to have it repaired but other panels started to peel which it will not stop.
my car paint is chipping in multiple places around my car. This could lead to rusting witch, can ultimately lead the body of the car to be easily damaged. it will cause a weakened body structure which can lead to so many damages in the future. I am mediately contacted Kia corporate as soon as the problem got worse, they refuse to pay for my whole car to be repainted. I have a pearl white Kia car, which is known to chip and bubble up. to fix my issues immediately, I went to get my car painted at an affordable place with my own money.
pearl white paint chipping away. also both power mirrors went out. one replaced with after market and other one available for inspection
Chunks of paint are coming off my car on the freeway. It was raining and a large section of paint flew off and onto the car that was driving behind me and stuck to their windshield. The occupant almost had a collision with another vehicle on the freeway. I was able to follow the car that got the paint stuck to their windshield and I did apologize and got their contact information to verify my incident.
White pearl color start pealing off, affected area is at the back of the roof above the back window.
Paint is peeling off my white 2015 KIA Optima on the passenger side, trunk and driver and passenger front pillars. The paint is peeling from underneath the paint at the base of the vehicle. This is obviously a paint defect and unacceptable. I was told by multiple auto paint body shops that "the paint did not fuse with the primer which is causing the paint to bubble and peel". Kia is telling consumers to put in a claim and send pictures, sales contracts and paint estimates etc. and then deny the claim. However, I know for a fact that they are picking and choosing which claims to take care of. My claim was denied but I refuse to accept this and asked for a Case manager to call me directly to discuss further. I am suppose to get a call back within a 5 to 7 days. Kia is a billion dollar business with millions of Kia vehicles sold and for them not to take responsibility for there manufacturing defect is very bad business and I expect more from them. I spent hard earned money for my car that looks horrible and I am embarrassed to drive in and drive my clients in. I am not happy at how Kia is handling this matter and consumers of Kia deserve better treatment.
The paint has started delaminating and is coming off in sheets. This problem started about 2 months ago. I am worried that a large sheet of paint can fly off and affect a vehicle or motorcycle behind me.
Rear outer TAIL LAMP combination assemblies (NOT the inner lights on the trunk lid) have failed Virginia State SAFETY Inspection due to accumulation of moisture and standing water in BOTH left and right outer tail lamps, causing LEDs in the tail lamp assembly to burn out and not illuminate. There have already been multiple Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) on the matter (i.e. KIA TSB PS364, KIA TSB BOD143, KIA TSB BOD172), and the cause outlined in these TSBs has been a DEFECT in design leading to a gap between the tail lamp housing gasket and the vehicle body allowing WATER INTRUSION. KIA has neglected to inspect, fix, or add additional gaskets per their instructions during eligible warranty periods, and extended warranties refuse to fix the issue as they classify it as water intrusion. This pins the financial burden to fix the safety issue on the customer/driver, as KIA dealers have quoted $1,232.46 for replacement of these tail lamps. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Components: Rear outer tail lamp combination assemblies (both left and right) (NOT the lamps on the trunk lid). Inspection availability: LIMITED due to significant time pressure and inconvenience (since the tail lamps have caused the vehicle to fail Virginia State Safety Inspection, the car needs to be fixed ASAP to resume commute to work, etc.) How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Lower visibility for others, may result in incident. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Confirmed by KIA dealer themselves. Also, multiple customer complaints on internet, as well as TSBs. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? KIA dealer did not inspect during warranty. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No and UNKNOWN.
Paint on the entire car is delaminating
Severe chipping of the paint
The vehicles paint started peeling on one of the rear columns. I have noticed very many different Kia optimas with the same issue when it came to the same color paint. The paint is snow white pearl. I’ve had no success working with Kia and it is clearly a defective paint issue. I own several cars older and they never had issues. They are unwilling to help.
There was no accident. My paint keeps chipping. I’ve never had a car chip paint like this one. I’ve seen multiple other cars who have the same exact car in the color Snow White have this problem. Very frustrating.
Hello, I have a 2015 Kia Optima with Snow White Pearl paint. The paint has started to bubble and chip off. I understand that this paint color is an issue for cars in South Florida which have had the same issue. I have included pictures of the areas and also the vin with paint code.
Delamination of the Snow White Pearl Paint due to faulty factory primer appearing at multiple spots including front and rear pillars, hood and doors. Confirmed by 2 Auto Body Shops - Triangle Collision and Carolinas Collison. Rust has began appearing in said spots and the paint strips are getting worse overtime.
I have a 2015 Kia Optima and the paint (Pearl White) is starting to peel of. It started on the front left of the windshield last December (2021) There is now the back right of the vehicle, the top of the trunk and the hood. After research on line, it looks like it is common on this paint type on the Kia models. I am seeking out some help to resolve this problem for everyone. I talked to my car dealer about the problem and told me that the warranty for the paint stops at 36000 miles. My car has 96021 and is not covered anymore, even if it is a defect. My car is starting to rust, no recourse from the dealer, need some support from the NHTSA department to resolve this problem that is not isolated to my vehicle only but many more. Sincerely,
My paint is chipping badly. I have noticed a few other vehicles that have had the same problem with the SNOW WHITE PEARL paint. It started as a small knick in the paint and has gradually turned into severely needing a paint job. Hopefully kia can find a way to resolve the issue I love everything else about my car and fell in love with the color instantly and considering you pay extra for the snow white pearl color it should last!
I own a 2015 Kia Optima Ex that is having paint issues. it is the Snow Pearl White and there are chunks of paint peeling off of multiple spots on the vehicle.
I have a 2015 White Kia Optima and the paint started chipping a few months ago in just one area on the passenger side back door. I took it to a Kia dealer in Irvine, CA and they said it was not a covered item. I believe it should be a covered item and would like assistance getting it repaired please.
•A small spot the size of a half-dollar formed on the exterior paint (pearl white) on the passenger side rear door and has since expanded to the size of two fists. •I brought the vehicle to a reputable body repair shop that was recommended by my auto insurance provider to get the area repainted. •The body shop reports that the paint is “delaminating” and is not adhering to the primer. •There are countless related complaints online from vehicle owners with the same year, make and model – yet no recall has been issued by Kia. •There are no warnings to alert the driver to this problem. However, over time, the exposed metal will rust and the door will eventually corrode, putting the passenger at risk.
My 2015 Kia Optima has shown signs of paint chipping for the past year in the half. At first a minor inconvenience, now is becoming a major problem with parts of the body starting to rust and larger sections beginning to peel as well. While paint deterioration is expected on a car, it shouldn't happen as early as 5 years in or less than 80,000 miles. I am worried that paint will continue to peel off and the body work will continue to rust. The car has not been looked at by the manufacturer and various site across the internet have shown that the Pearl White Paint color is the sole color that has experienced this problem. The Hood, A Pillar, and rood railings are all experiencing this problem.
My 2015 kia optima with snow white pearl paint is peeling and delaminating without any prior damage. An independent shop reviewed the paint and agreed that it was a factory paint failure. They started to appear a few years after I bought it but I passed it off as regular stone chipping.

I ATTEMPTED TO PULL OVER OFF THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY, ONCE I WAS STOPPED I TURNED THE CAR OFF. THE CAR THAN WAS ENGULFED WITH SMOKE AND FLAMES I JUMPED OUT THE CAR AND THE CAR LIT UP IN FLAMES. I CALLED ONTARIO POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT.

THE PAINT IS SERIOUSLY PEELING "DELAMINATING" IN "SNOW WHITE PEARL" AND THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED!! IT OCCURS DRIVING OR JUST WASHING THE CAR. SEARCHING ONLINE I SEE THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CHECK ENGINE AND ALL LIGHTS CAME ON. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE OR STOP THE VEHICLE THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK I COASTED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY AND HIT THE GUARD RAIL BECAUSE I HAD NO BREAKS. THEN I HAD A TOW TRUCK COME AND PULL ME OFF THE FREEWAY TO SEE IF I COULD START MY VEHICLE HOWEVER IT DID NOT START ALL THE LIGHTS WERE ON THE DASH ON AND THE CAR WAS SMOKING AND SMELL LIKE FIRE I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE MECHANIC TO FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG. THE MECHANIC SAID THE ENGINE IS FRIED BECAUSE THE OIL PUMP WAS NOT BEING PUMPED INTO THE MOTOR THEREFORE IT LOCKED UP HE SAID I BELIEVE THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE FOR THE SAME REASON I CHECKED THE RECALL AND THERE IS NOTHING IN THE SYSTEM THAT A 2015 KIA OPTIMA IS UP FOR RECALL. I BELIEVE KIA NEEDS TO REFUND THIS VEHICLE THAT HAS ONLY 88,000 MILES IN THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED KIA NEEDS TO CALL ME

ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE! HAD PICKED THE KIA OPTIMA UP THE DAY BEFORE FROM THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY HAD INSTALLED A NEW ENGINE, BELTS, AND HOSES. HAD DRIVEN 40 MINUTES FOR A DOCTOR APPT. GOT OFF THE FREEWAY. AS I WAS APPROACHING THE LIGHT (ABOUT 3 BLOCKS FROM FREEWAY), NOTICED GRAY SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER HOOD ON PASSENGER SIDE. WITH A BROKEN LEFT ARM, HAD TO GET OUT AND ACROSS TRAFFIC. SAW THE FLAMES AS I WAS CROSSING THE STREET. IN UNDER A MINUTE, THE FRONT OF CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. *TR

WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS HIGHER THAN 45 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS FOR A BRIEF MOMENT. THIS DOES NOT ALLOW FOR A SMOOTH WAY TO KEEP THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY. VERY SCARY. ANTENNA COVER ON TOP OF CAR FLEW OFF ON THE HIGHWAY. READ THAT IT HAS HAPPENED TO SEVERAL OTHER 2015 OPTIMA MODELS. BACK UP CAMERA IS FOGGY AND I CAN NO LONGER USE IT WHEN REVERSING. BACK TAILLIGHTS HAVE CONDENSATION IN THEM. I HAVE ALREADY HAD ONE OF THEM REPLACED EARLY ON.

AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE 3 VEHICLES PASSED WAVING FRANTICALLY BEFORE SPEEDING BY. I NOTICED A REFLECTIVE ORANGE FLICKER ALONG THE BASE EACH VEHICLE. THIS WAS FOLLOWED UP BY A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND BEFORE I LOST ALL ACCELERATING POWER BUT RETAINED RPM REVS AS I PRESSED THE PEDAL. I ALLOWED THE MOMENTUM TO GET ME AS FAR UP THE EXIT RAMP AS POSSIBLE PRIOR TO PULLING OVER ONTO THE GRASS. I PLACED THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED IT OFF TO BE MET WITH AN INSTANT ROLL OF SMOKE UP THE FRONT WINDSHIELD, OUT OF THE FRONT GRILL, AND FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE TIRE AREA. I EXITED THE VEHICLE TO THE SOUND OF LIQUID HITTING A HOT SURFACE AND HISSING. I STEPPED AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE AND LOOKED UNDERNEATH TO BE MET WITH ROLLS OF FIRE DRIPPING TO THE GROUND FROM BENEATH THE ENGINE AND ALONG THE BOTTOM CENTER OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE CAR. I IMMEDIATELY CLEARED THE AREA AND MY VEHICLE WAS COMPLETE ENGULFED IN FLAMES IN LESS THAN 4 MINUTES. NO SENSORS OR ALARMS NOTIFIED ME OF ANY TYPE OF MALFUNCTION.

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

I WAS TRAVELING EAST ON A 4 LANE ROAD AT 45 MPH. AS I WAS PASSING THRU A GREEN LIGHT, A WESTBOUND VEHICLE MADE AN ILLEGAL LEFT TURN IN FRONT OF ME, CAUSING ME TO "T-BONE" HIS VEHICLE. ALL OF HIS AIRBAGS DEPLOYED.....NONE OF MINE DID. THE CAR WAS REPAIRED, SURPRISINGLY; YET I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT. I SUSTAINED CERVICAL AND LUMBAR SPINE INJURIES, AS WELL AS A SEVERE WHIPLASH AND CONCUSSION. I AM UNABLE TO WORK, DUE TO SURGERY THAT WAS NECESSARY. I JUST NEED TO KNOW IF THIS CAR IS SAFE?? I WAS ALSO IN A SIDE COLLISION THAT WAS NOT MY FAULT; TWO YEARS AGO,WHERE SOMEONE HIT ME, AND NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. AT THAT PARTICULAR ACCIDENT,I WAS STATIONARY; AT A STOP LIGHT.

TOOK MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP ( ATLANTA WEST KIA, DOUGLASVILLE, GA) FOR AN OIL CHANGE, TIRE ROTATION, ETC. I WAS NOTIFIED WHEN I CHECKED IN THAT THERE WAS A COMPUTER RECALL FOR AN UPGRADE OF THE COMPUTER/ELECTRONIC SYSTEM. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD DO THAT WHILE PERFORMING THE OTHER SERVICE WORK. 3 WEEKS AFTER THE OIL CHANGE I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE THE CAR SUDDDENLY LOST POWER AFTER A BIG PUFF OF WHITE SMOKE AND LOUD NOISE. I WORKED MY WAY OVER TO THE NEST EXIT AND PROCEEDED TO TURN AROUND TO GO BACK HOME. NO WARNING/ENGINE/OIL LIGHTS CAME ON DURING THIS TIME. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND NEVER RETURNED MY CALL, WITH NO RESULTS. WE CHECKED THE OIL THE CAR WAS 3 QUARTS LOW. CONTINUE TO NOTIFY THE DEALER TO NO AVAIL. THE CAR NEEDED 3 QUARTS OF OIL EVERYTIME I CHECKED IT WEEKLY. LET ME REINTERATE THAT THE CAR WAS RUNNING FINE BEFORE I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE IN NOV 2018. I CALLED KIA CORP. THEY INFOMED ME THAT MY CAR WAS NOT UNDER RECALL AND THAT THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO BECASUE I HAD 68K ON THE CAR. THEY ASKED ME TO HAVE IT TOWED IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TEST. NOW THEY WANT ME TO PROVIDE ALL THE SERVICE RECORDS. THE SERVICE RECORDS WAS IN THE KIA DEALERSHIP SYSTEM AS I HAVE USED THAT DEALER (PRIOR OWNER) FOR MOST OF MY WORK. I AM NOT SURE WHAT HAPPENED TO THE SERVICE RECORDS. AT THIS POINT THEY REFUSE TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. KIA HAS RECALLED EVERY YEAR BUT 2015 - APPARENTLY THEY THINK THEY GOT IT RIGHT IN 2015 SINCE THE MOTOR WAS BUILT IN A DIFFERENT LOCATION. THE ENGINE I S PRACICALLY GONE AND I HAVE HAD THE CAR LESS THAN 4 YEARS. I PURCHASED BAND NEW OFF THE LOT 9/2015. I FEEL LIKE THEY SHOULD BE MADE TO ADD THE 2015 KIA OPTIMA TO THE ENGINE RECALL LIST BEFORE SOMEONE GET SERIOUSLY HURT EITHER BY THE CAR STOPPING IN HIGHWAY TRAFFIC OR CATCHING ON FIRE. DOOR HANDLE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE CONTIUES TO STICK AND THE DORR WILL NOT OPEN FROM OUTSIDE OR INSIDE.

AT APPROXIMATELY 4:30 A.M. ON NOVEMBER 12, 2018, THE ENGINE BECAME FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED ON THE STREET IN FRONT OF OUR HOUSE AND TURNED OFF. NO ONE HAD DRIVEN THE CAR FOR SEVERAL HOURS. THE FIRE DESTROYED THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE CAR, MELTED THE TIRES AND FILLED THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR WITH SMOKE. FORTUNATELY, THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND PUT OUT THE FIRE BEFORE IT SPREAD TO THE GAS TANK.

SHARK FIN ANTENNA COVER FELL OFF. THIS IS REPORTED TO HAPPEN TO MANY 2015 KIA OPTIMAS. THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FIN AND TO FIX THE ISSUE A WHOLE ANTENNA KIT HAS TO BE INSTALLED. APPARENTLY THE SCREWS THAT HOLD THE ANTENNA FIN DOWN RUST OVERTIME AND EVENTUALLY CAUSE THE FIN TO POP OFF. THIS PRESENTS A PROBLEM THAT WOULD ALLOW WATER TO ENTER THE VEHICLE AND CAUSE DAMAGE.
