The contact owns a 2006 Kia Sedona LX. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V088000 (Electrical System, Service Brakes, Hydraulic) and stated that while powered off, he observed smoke emanating from the engine compartment. The contact stated that when the hood was opened, fire erupted from the engine compartment. The contact extinguished the fire. No police report or fire report was made available. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that an unknown part needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V389000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages) and 20V088000 (Electrical System, Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

I obtained this vehicle from a relative in Ohio. They tried twice to have the recall repaired and twice they showed for an appointment to find out parts were not available. I bought and brought the car to Florida. I started the same process here with Daytona Kia {(386) 252-7000}. I have had 2 appointments. The first on 8/31/2021 I cancelled having called the day before to be told the part was not in. As I was not communicated with despite being told I would be called, I initiated another effort in October. After being assured the part was in I made an appointment for November 20, 2021. That Saturday morning I sat in their waiting room for 1 1/2 hours just to be finally told the part was not in and they would inform me when it was. Parts still backordered.

THIS RECALL HAS BEEN OPEN SINCE APRIL 8, OVER A MONTH NOW, AND HAS A CHANCE OF THE VEHICLE CATCHING FIRE SO IT MUST BE PARKED AWAY FROM MY HOUSE. ON A PREVIOUS RECALL OF CHEVROLET, WHICH JUST HAD A CHANCE OF THE KEY COMING LOSE FROM THE IGNITION, A DIFFERENT VEHICLE WAS PROVIDED WHILE THE RECALL WAS BEING REMEDIED. MY 2006 KIA SEDONA MINIVAN HAS AN INTERMITTENT FAILURE CAUSING IT NOT TO START. ALL ELECTRICAL WORKS EXCEPT THE ENGINE & STARTER. TURN THE KEY TO START & IT DOES NOT TURN OVER. THE AUTOMOTIVE MECHANICAL TERM USED TO DESCRIBE THIS CONDITION IS "NO CRANK". THE STARTER & ENGINE REMAIN OFF. AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS IT STARTS AFTER 5-30 MINUTES. WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS & THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE &/OR REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE IS SO WIDE SPREAD THAT THERE IS A YOUTUBE WEBSITE DESCRIBING THE PROBLEM & OFFERING A SOLUTION WITH OVER 96,000 VIEWS. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIPS REFUSE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM UNLESS THEY CAN DUPLICATE THE MALFUNCTION AT THE TIME OF THE SERVICE VISIT. MOTORISTS ARE HAVING TO ENDURE REPEATED BREAKDOWNS WITHOUT REMEDY. THERE IS NO KNOWN PROCEDURE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM USING EMERGENCY SERVICE WHEN THE EVENT OCCURS. HYUNDAI ALSO HAS THE IDENTICAL ISSUE IN THEIR MINI VANS AS WELL. ON FRIDAY, APRIL 17TH, 2020, [XXX] RECEIVED THE SAFETY RECALL INTERIM NOTICE FOR HIS 2006 KIA SEDONA STATING THAT THE ENGINE IS AT RISK FOR FIRE WHEN VEHICLE IS OFF. THE LETTER STATES TO PARK THE VEHICLE UNTIL REPAIRED AND SAYS THAT THE RISK OF FIRE IS DUE TO MOISTURE IN AN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OF THE ENGINE THAT CAN SHORT OUT EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS SHUT OFF. WE HAVE PLEADED WITH KIA FINDLAY AND THE KIA CONSUMER CENTER TO AT LEAST CHECK FOR MOISTURE IN THE UNIT OF CONCERN, BUT WERE TURNED AWAY. WE ALSO REQUESTED A LOANER VEHICLE IN THE INTERIM AND AGAIN, THEY REFUSED AND SAID THEY CANNOT HELP UNLESS THE ENGINE CATCHES FIRE. RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM KIA DATED 4/8/20 STATING HYDRAULIC ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT, WHICH CONTROLS ESC, TSC AND ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM, REMAINS ENERGIZED WHEN VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF AND AN ELECTRICAL SHORT CIRCUIT INCREASES THE RISK OF ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE EVEN WHEN CAR IS TURNED OFF. THE PARTS ARE NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE TO FIX THIS. IN THE MEANTIME, I AM TO PARK MY VEHICLE OUTDOORS AWAY FROM OTHER VEHICLES AND STRUCTURES. I CALLED MY LOCAL KIA DEALERSHIP TO INQUIRE IF THEY KNEW WHEN THE REPAIR WOULD BE AVAILABLE AND THEY DID NOT EVEN KNOW OF ITS EXISTENCE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID KIA BLOWS THINGS OUT OF PROPORTION AND SCARES PEOPLE AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHEN AND IF THE REPAIR PARTS WILL BE IN. THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE RESPONSE. KIA NEEDS TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE DEALERSHIPS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THEY NEED TO FIX IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO AVOID INJURY TO CONSUMERS. I AM LEFT WITH A VAN THAT HAS THE RISK OF CATCHING ON FIRE. AS HIS WIFE BEGAN TO PULL INTO THEIR GARAGE, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. HIS WIFE TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND THE CONTACT BEGAN TO PUT OUT THE FIRE. HOWEVER, IT WAS A LITTLE DIFFICULT FOR THE CONTACT TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE, SO THE CONTACT DETACHED THE BATTERY, WHICH, MADE IT EASIER FOR THEM TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOT CONTACTED AND FIRE REPORT WAS NOT MADE. THE CONTACT DID NOT CONTACT THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN OFFICIALLY DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND OPENED A CASE REGARDING THE MATTER. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT A FUTURE RECALL NOTICE HAD NOT BEEN RELEASED DUE TO PARTS FOR A REMEDY NOT YET BEING AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 228,000.

ON MY CRUISE CONTROL WHEN I SET TO CERTAIN SPEED, IT WILL SPEED UP, I HAD IT SET TO 65 MPH AND IT SPED UP BY ITSELF TO 85 BEFORE I COULD GET IT TO GO OFF. I HAD TO SLAM ON THE BREAK TO GET IT TO GO OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. NOW THE CAR WILL NOT START ALL THE LIGHTS WILL COME ON, BUT CAR WILL NOT DO ANYTHING. CHECKED FUSES ALL GOOD, GROUND WIRE WAS TAKEN LOOSE AND PAINT GRINDER OFF AND PUT BACK ON, STILL WON'T START. IT STARTED NOT STARTING EVERY NOW AND THEN AND NOW IT WON'T START AT ALL. I READ WHERE THIS IS HAPPENING TO SEVERAL KIA SPECIFICALLY 2006 .

SLIDING DOOR ON PASSENGER SIDE OPENS BY ITSELF WHILE DRIVING. MIRRORS MALFUNCTION ALL THE TIME AND YOU CAN'T CORRECT THEM. THEY KEEP POINTING DOWN AND YOU CAN'T SEE. HAD RECALL COMPLETED ON SWAY BAR BUT THEY DIDN'T REALIGN AND CHECK SUSPENSION I'M ON MY 3RD SET OF TIRES. DANGEROUS VEHICLE I'VE HAD MORE ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE THAN ANY VEHICLE I'VE EVER OWNED. BETWEEN ISSUES I JUST SPOKE OF TO CRUISE CONTROL GOING CRAZY WHEN YOU USE IT TO THE DOOR COMING OPEN WHILE DRIVING . I DON'T SUGGEST ANYONE BUYING A KIA. THEY DON'T BACK UP THERE CARS AND THEY WANT AN OUTRAGEOUS PRICE TO LOOK AT IT. I'VE BEEN LOOKING TO BUY ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THE CAR SALESMAN EVEN SAID HE DISCOURAGED BUYING A KIA BECAUSE OF SAFETY ISSUES.

FUSES KEEP BURNING OUT. AND CAUSE CAR TO STOP OR TURN OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. I WENT TO TEST MY ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY AND BOTH WERE GOOD. I WAS DRIVING ON 29 NORTH HEADED TOWARD LYNCHBURG. VA AND DRIVING 70MPH AND THE RADIO TURNED OFF LIGHTS TURNED OFF AND I QUICKLY PULLED OVER. TURNED OFF THE VAN, WAITED A COUPLE OF MINUTES TRIED TO TURN IT ON AND IT WOULDN'T TURN ON. AFTER WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK (ALMOST 2 HOURS) WE GOT HOMETESTED THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR. AUTO ADVANCE TOLD ME BOTH WERE GOOD. EVERY FUSE IN THE FUSE BOX WAS BURNED OUT. A WIRE UNDER THE ALTERNATOR WAS BURNED OUT.

AFTER RUNNING MY VAN FOR A BIT I SHUT IT OFF AND WHEN I COME BACK OUT TO START IT IT WON'T START SO I LOOKED IT UP BEFORE AND I WAS TOLD TO REMOVE MY MEMORY FUSE AND RETURN IT BACK SO I DID THAT FOR A FEW MONTHS NOW I HAVE TO RELEASE THE ALTERNATOR FUSE FOR A BIT AND WAIT LIKE 5 MINS AND THEN PUSH IT BACK IN AND THEN VAN WILL START. BUT LATELY IT'S GETTING WHERE IT DOESN'T WORK AT ALL REMOVEING ANY OF THE FUSES . IF I LET THE VAN SET A FEW DAYS THEN TRY TO START IT THEN IT WILL START BUT IT WILL DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN AND LEAVES ME SITTING WHERE EVER IM AT WITH IT WITH NO WAY OF GETTING IT STARTED .. I'VE HAD GARAGES TELL ME IT IN MY FUSE PANEL OR WIRES IN THE FUSE BOX UNDER DASH BUT CANT GET NOONE TO TOUCH IT . IT'S A REALLY NICE VAN BESIDE THIS ISSUE I WOULD REALLY LIKE IT FIXED WITHOUT COSTING ME AN ARM OR LEG IN LABOR AND COST . AFTER STOPPING AT STOP SIGN DRIVING ON A CITY STREET (SPEED LIMIT 30), I, MADE A RIGHT TURN AND THE LEFT (DRIVER) SIDE, REAR SLIDING DOOR UNLATCHED AND SLID WIDE OPEN. MY DOG ALMOST SLID OUT BUT HAD HIS LEASH ON AND I MANAGED TO GRAB IT BEFORE HE WENT OUT THE DOOR. I GOT OUT AND SLAMMED THE DOOR MANUALLY, TOOK OFF AND MADE ANOTHER RIGHT TURN WHEN AGAIN THE SAME DOOR SLID WIDE OPEN AGAIN. PARKED SAFELY AND TRIED CLOSING DOOR BUT IT WOULD NOT STAY SHUT EVERY TIME I TRIED TO CLOSE THE DOOR IT WOULD OPEN ON ITS OWN AT LEAST 6 INCHES REMAINING LOOSE IN ITS TRACK (SO WHILE DRIVING IT WOULD SLIDE BACK AND FORWARD. I THEN TIED IT CLOSED/SHUT BUT IT WAS CLEARLY VERY DANGEROUS SO I CONTACTED MY LOCAL KIA THE NEXT MORNING AND TOOK IT IN. KIA COMPLETED 2 OTHER RECALLS BUT THOSE DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. KIA REPORTED THAT THEY TRACED THE ISSUE BACK TO THE REAR DOOR CONTROLLER WHICH WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALLS BUT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM SO THEY RE-TIED THE DOOR (SIMILAR TO HOW I HAD) USING MY STRAP. I DECLINED TO PAY TO HAVE THIS FIXED AS KIA HAS ALREADY ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS SO IT IS HAPPENING FREQUENTLY - HAD A PASSENGER BEEN IN THAT SEAT ON THE HIGHWAY THEY COULD HAVE LITERALLY BLOWN OUT THE DOOR ONTO THE HIGHWAY. I THINK THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED. MY KIA DOOR HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED YET AND IS AVAILABLE TO BE LOOKED AT IN DETAIL AS NEEDED. I RECENTLY HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY 2006 KIA SEDONA WHERE THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAYED ON CONSTANTLY REGARDLESS OF WETHER THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED. THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAYED ON EVEN IF THE VEHICLE WAS OFF. IT WAS CONFIRMED TO BE THE "BRAKE LIGHT SWITH" WHICH I FOUND WAS UNDER RECALL. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO KIA OF CERRITOS WHO REFUSED TO PERFORM THE RECALL AS IT TURNED OUT THE RECALL WAS ALLEGEDLY PERFORMED IN 2009. I SUSPECT IN 2009 THE PART WAS EITHER NOT REPLACED OR THE REPLACEMENT SWITCH HAS THE SAME DEFECT AS THE ORIGINAL. I CONTACTED KIA FOR CLARIFICATION AND THEY TOLD ME THEY ONLY PERFORM RECALLS ONCE.

OUR 2006 KIA SEDONA BEGAN EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT NO CRANK CONDITION THAT LEFT US STRANDED MULTIPLE TIMES WITH KIDS IN THE CAR AND TOWING EXPENSES TO A MECHANIC ONLY FOR THE CAR TO START RIGHT UP AFTER GETTING THERE. THIS LEAVES THE MECHANICS SCRATCHING THERE HEAD AND SENDING IT BACK TO US. WE KNOW NOW THAT THE CONDITION IS CAUSED BY HIGHER THAN NORMAL RESISTANCE ACROSS THE BURGLAR ALARM RELAY LOCATED IN THE IN PANEL MODULE. THIS IS A NON-SERVICEABLE PART BY KIA AND IF FOUND DEFECTIVE REQUIRES THE ENTIRE MODULE TO BE REPLACED AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE PART IN AND OF ITSELF IS CHEAP BUT BECAUSE IT IS A NON SERVICEABLE PART THE ENTIRE PANEL HAS TO BE REPLACED AT ABOUT $500. PLUS THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THE DEFECTIVE PART WILL MALFUNCTION AGAIN. THE ISSUE WAS FIXED ON LATER MODELS MADE AFTER 2007. DESPITE KIA ACKNOWLEDGING THAT IT IS A PROBLEM, DUE TO NOT ENOUGH FIELD COMPLAINTS THEY REFUSE TO RECALL THE DEFECTIVE PART AND FIX THE MISTAKE ON 2006/2007 KIA SEDONA'S. THIS CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME AND LEAVE YOU STRANDED. TURNING OFF YOUR CAR AT THE GAS PUMP, TURNING OFF YOUR CAR ON THE SIDE OF THE STREET, TURNING OFF YOUR CAR AT THE SUPERMARKET, OR ANYWHERE COULD MEAN YOUR LEFT STRANDED! KIA HAS SENT OUT A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN TO THEIR DEALERSHIPS EXPLAINING THE CUSTOMER CONCERN. THIS WAS INTENDED TO HELP TECHNICIANS DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER THIS DOES NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE THAT THEY HAVE CAUSED FOR THE 2006 2007 SEDONA'S THAT WERE MADE WITH THIS NON-SERVICEABLE RELAY. THE BULLETIN CLEARLY STATES THAT IF THE PART IS FOUND DEFECTIVE THAT THE WHOLE PANEL HAS TO BE REPLACED HOWEVER KIA DENIES ANY RESPONSIBILITY IN FIXING THE MISTAKE DESPITE FIXING IT AND LATER MODELS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IT IS BECAUSE THERE'S NOT ENOUGH FIELD COMPLAINTS FOR THEM TO WORRY ABOUT IT.

SOME OF THE DATES THAT IT WAS AT THE KIA DEALER OR OTHER REPAIR FOR DIMMING LIGHTS, HEADLIGHTS DIMMING, ARE 2/12/2007 (15957 MILES); 7/24/2008 (38853 MILES); 11/24/2008 (43470 MILES); 4/21/2009 (48936 MILES); 3/14/2016 (94429). I HAVE BROKEN DOWN TWICE DUE TO ALTERNATOR WHILE OUT OF TOWN; ONE TIME IN ALABAMA, AND LAST WEEKEND IN OSAGE BEACH MO. BOTH TIMES I HAD TO HAVE ALTERNATOR REPLACED. BOTH CAUSED A LOT OF STRESS BECAUSE I HAD MY KIDS WITH ME AND IN ALABAMA WE WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE SINCE AN ALTERNATOR SHOULD NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED SO MANY TIMES. OVER HALF THE BUTTONS AND KNOBS ON THE STOCK CD PLAYER/RADIO HAVE NOT WORKED FOR APPROXIMATELY EIGHT YEARS. I AM HAVING TO REPLACE HEADLIGHT AND TURN SIGNAL BULBS EVERY FEW MONTHS. THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED AND WILL NOT SHUT OFF. I HAVE NOT BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENTS (YET) AND WOULD EXPECT MY AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY IF AND WHEN NECESSARY. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT FUNCTION IF THE INDICATOR LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN, AS THIS IS A FAMILY VEHICLE AND I HAVE THREE SMALL CHILDREN, AND I TAKE FREQUENT ROAD TRIPS DUE TO MY JOB. AS FAR AS I KNOW, THERE ARE NO RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH THE AIRBAG OR ELECTRICAL/LIGHTING SYSTEM FOR THIS VEHICLE. AFTER LABOR COST AND TAXES IT WOULD BE $2022!! KIA WAS HAVING SOME RECALLS AROUND THAT TIME, BUT NONE TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. THE MAIN REASON WE BOUGHT THIS VAN FOR OUR FAMILY WAS BECAUSE OF HIGH SAFETY RATINGS INVOLVING ALL THE AIRBAGS. NOW WE ARE DRIVING WITHOUT AIRBAGS AND PRAYING FOR EXTRA ANGELS AROUND THE VAN WHEN WE HAVE TO GO ON THE HIGHWAY. WE WOULD LIKE TO TAKE LONG ROAD TRIPS, BUT THAT SEEMS TOO DANGEROUS WITHOUT AIRBAGS. WE BOUGHT THIS KIA SEDONA FROM A DEALER AND FROM THE TIME WE BOUGHT IT ALWAYS HAD SOME STARTING PROBLEM. SO WHEN WE TOOK TO THE DEALER THEY SAID IT IS THE BATTERY AND REPLACED THE BATTERY AND AGAIN THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEN THEY SAID TO REPLACE THE BATTERY CONNECTING PARTS AS THEY ARE NOT CONNECTING RIGHT. THEN HAD SOME FUSE PROBLEMS AND HAD TO REPLACE SOME FUSE AND THE AC WAS DOWN REPLACED THE AC. AGAIN BATTERY PROBLEM AND NOT STARTING. THE DEALER SAID TO REPLACE A NEW BATTERY AND WE SAID IT IS A NEW ONE, BUT TOLD TO PUT A KIA BATTERY AND REPLACED IT, AFTER FEW DAYS AGAIN CAR SLOW DOWNED THE SPEED WHILE DRIVING AND STOPPED MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. HAD TO TOW TO THE DEALER. THEY SAID IT IS THE STARTER MOTOR AND REPLACED IT. AFTER A YEAR, SAME PROBLEM - CAR WAS NOT STARTING AND THEN FINALLY THEY SAID IT IS THE FUSE BOX AND HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE FUSE BOX AS IT WAS NOT WORKING RIGHT. THE TURN SIGNALS WORK INTERMITTENTLY AND PROBABLY ONLY WORK 15% OF THE TIME, HOWEVER BEGINNING ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO THE BULBS HAVE NEVER BOTH WORKED AT THE SAME TIME (MEANING WHEN YOU TURN THE SWITCH TO THE LEFT THE LEFT SIGNAL WILL TURN ON BUT WHEN YOU THEN TURN THE SWITCH TO THE RIGHT IT DOES NOT WORK). THE BULBS HAVE BEEN CHANGED SEVERAL TIMES YET THIS NEVER FIXES THE PROBLEM. THE TURN SIGNAL BULBS HAVE ACTUALLY ONLY BEEN BURNED OUT ONE TIME, PROVING THERE IS SOME FORM OF A SHORT. ALL OF THE OTHER LAMPS, WHETHER IT BE HEAD LAMPS (LOW OR HIGH BEAM), FOG LIGHTS,TAIL LIGHTS, RUNNING LIGHTS, REVERSE LIGHT OR TAG LIGHTS, KEEP BURNING OUT BULBS. EVERY 6 WEEKS I'M HAVING TO REPLACE A BULB. THIS IS SO DANGEROUS NOT TO MENTION EXPENSIVE! WITH AS MANY COMPLAINTS AS THERE HAS BEEN POSTED DUE TO THIS VERY SAME ISSUE, I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY KIA HAS NOT FOUND/CREATED A SOLUTION FOR THESE ISSUES. DRIVERS SIDE HAS BEEN THE WORST. FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED IT WAS FAIRLY NEW. IT STARTED AS THE POWER DOOR WOULD OCCASIONALLY PULL ITSELF IN THE WRONG DIRECTION WHEN OPENED OR CLOSED RESULTING IN THE MOTOR MAKING NOISES THEN IT WOULD BEEP. LATER IT STARTED OPENING BUT NOT MAKING IT TO ITS LATCHED POSITION. TOOK IT IN HAD THE MOTOR REPLACED. THEN ABOUT A YEAR LATER IT DIED. JUST DIED.. NO POWER WHAT SO EVER. TOOK IT IN AND THEY REPLACED THE MOTOR AGAIN AND THE LATCH RELEASE. 2 YEARS WENT BY JUST FINE THEN WE LOST THE LATCH RELEASE. SO THE DOOR WOULD OPEN OR CLOSE BUT YOU WOULD HAVE TO PULL THE HANDLE OR ELSE IT WOULD GET CAUGHT. TOOK IT IN A 3RD TIME AND THEY REPLACED LATCH RELEASE ON BOTH SIDES. NO MORE ISSUES. UNTIL NOW. ABOUT 4 DAYS AGO THE AUTO LATCH RELEASE DIED ON THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. YESTERDAY I WENT TO GO GET SOMETHING FROM THE STORE AND AS I WAS WAITING IN THE PARKING LOT I TRIED TO TEST HE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. PRESSED THE BUTTON THE AUTO RELEASE OPENED. BUT THE MOTOR SOUNDED REALLY SLOW. THEN I PRESS THE BUTTON TO CLOSE IT. AND THEN AUTO RELEASE DIED ON THAT SIDE TOO. NO SOUND JUST STOPPED WORKING. THIS IS THE 4TH TIME WE ARE TAKING IT IN FOR THE POWER DOOR TO BE FIXED. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON YOUTUBE AND GOOGLE AND FOUND THAT MANY OTHER 06 SEDONA DRIVERS HAVE HAD THESE ISSUES. ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION MY VEHICLE HAS STALLED ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THE ALTERNATOR STOPPED CHARGING THE BATTERY AND POWER RAN OUT. BEFORE THIS HAPPENS, I SEE ALL THE LIGHT INDICATORS ON THE DASHBOARD FOR MONITORED SYSTEMS GO ON, SUCH AS THE ABS, TPMS, HAND BRAKE, ESC ETC. I HAVE HAD THE ALTERNATOR REPLACED ONCE ALREADY AND IT HAS BROKEN DOWN A SECOND TIME. I HAVE THE BATTERY REPLACED ATLEAST 3/4 TIMES ALREADY. PROBLEMS: AIR BAG LIGHT ON AGAIN. HAS BEEN REPAIRED BY DEALER SEVERAL TIMES. AC DOES NOT BLOW COLD CONTINUALLY AND HAS BEEN REPAIRED SEVERAL TIMES. NEW COMPRESSOR, ADDITIONAL FREON, ETC. HORN MALFUNCTIONING AGAIN. TRANSMISSION PROBLEM - THE VEHICLE "BANGS OR SLAMS" WHEN YOU COME DOWN A HILL TO A STOP. WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO A STOP LIGHT IT ACTUALLY HAS A SURGE OR ACCELERATION. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 64000 ON IT AND THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN SERVICED SEVERAL TIMES (FRONT AND REAR). NOW WHEN I AM DRIVING I GET A TERRIBLE GRINDING FEELING - AND AT A HIGHER SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN YOU GO TO SLOW DOWN FASTER IT VIBRATES TERRIBLY. ALSO THE BRAKING IS TERRIBLE AT HIGHER SPEEDS. ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE ACTUATOR REPAIR/REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES, HORN NOT SOUNDING PROPERLY, AIR BAG LIGHT (REPAIRED SEVERAL TIMES), CRUISE CONTROL ISSUES (WON'T MAINTAIN SPEED - ACCELERATES OR DECELERATES), BATTERY OR ELECTRICAL ISSUES (TOLD TO REPLACE BATTERY WHICH I DID & PAID FOR), HEADLIGHT ISSUES (HAVE REPLACED LIGHTS SEVERAL TIMES), VIBRATION ON HIGHWAY (NEW TIRES AND TIRES HAVE BEEN REBALANCED. ALIGNMENT DONE). AFTER REVIEWING MULTIPLE WEBSITES ON KIA REVIEWS, THESE ABOVE ITEMS ARE VERY COMMON EXPERIENCES FOR KIA SEDONA OWNERS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 KIA SEDONA. THE CONTACT STATED SHE HAD HER VEHICLE SERVICED FOR THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V130000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING: BRAKE LIGHTS: SWITCH). AFTER RECEIVING THE VEHICLE BACK FROM THE DEALER, SHE WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL INVOLUNTARILY ENGAGED. THERE WAS AN UNUSUALLY LOUD BUZZ COMING FROM THE DASH AREA. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND WHEN RESTARTING, THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS DEACTIVATED BUT THE NOISE CONTINUED MOMENTARILY. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT SHE HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING A RECURRING FAILURE IN WHICH SHE HEARS A LOUD "CLUNKING" NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING OVER BUMPS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON MANY OCCASIONS WHERE THE RIGHT AND LEFT SWAY BAR LINKS WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR WHENEVER DRIVING OVER A BUMPY ROAD SURFACE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 89,000.

HEADLAMPS BLOWING OUT WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE HEADLAMPS ABOUT EVERY 4-6 WEEKS AND HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES ON THE HEAD LIGHT PROBLEM AND THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. SO WHY DO THEY KEEP BLOWING OUT. WE HAVE HAD BOTH LOW BEAMS BLOW OUT AT THE SAME TIME AND HAVE HAD TO DRIVE WITH THE HIGH BEAMS WHICH IS UNSAFE TO ON COMING TRAFFIC LET ALONG UNSAFE FOR US NOT TO HAVE ANY LOW BEAMS. THE SECOND PROBLEM IS A STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION THAT WE HAVE HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE WE PURCHASED THE VAN. THE DEALER HAD IT FOR THE 1ST MONTH WE OWNED IT AND STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM TO THIS DAY AND WE ARE REALLY FEELING UNSAFE DRIVING IT DUE TO THE VIBRATION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. MY WIFE IS TERRIFIED TO EVEN TAKE IT ON THE HIGHWAY WITH OUR THREE PRECIOUS CHILDREN. SO IF I COULD GET SOME FEEDBACK ON THESE ISSUES I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT. THE VEHICLE WILL LOSE POWER. THE ENGINE WILL CONTINUE RUNNING, BUT ONLY AT IDOL SPEED. THIS EVENT CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR KIA AT THE TIME THIS EVENT HAPPENED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THE ESC OFF LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VAN HAD NO POWER. AFTER SHUTTING THE VAN OFF AND RESTARTING SHE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME WITH ONLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. I PULLED THE NEG. BATTERY CABLE AND RESET THE ECM. I DROVE THE VAN FOR 200 MILES WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE NEXT MORNING THE VAN STARTED NORMALLY, BUT WITHIN A MINUTE BOTH LIGHTS WERE ON AND THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO ANY THROTTLE INPUT. THE CODES PULLED FROM THE COMPUTER ARE P1295, P2106, AND P2135. AFTER LOOKING ON GOOGLE, THIS IS A CHRONIC PROBLEM PLAGUING KIA AND HYUNDAI VEHICLES. ACCORDING TO WHAT I'VE READ, IT CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME, ON ANY MODEL YEAR. NOBODY HAS BEEN ABLE TO ISOLATE THE CAUSE, EXCEPT TO REPLACE THE ECM, AND REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 KIA SEDONA LX. THE VEHICLE HAS A REMOTE STARTER MANUFACTURED BY AUDIOVOX, MODEL NUMBER PRO9556. WHEN THE CONTACT PRE-STARTED HER VEHICLE INSIDE HER HOME WITH THE DEVICE, SHE NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE SWITCHED INTO GEAR. SHE DROVE BACKWARDS AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER PLACE OF RESIDENCE. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE STARTER DEVICE ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO SHIFT INTO GEARS WITHOUT HAVING A KEY IN THE IGNITION WHEN PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. AS A CONSEQUENCE, THE VEHICLE COULD EASILY BE STOLEN AND INCREASED THE RISK OF A CRASH OR SERIOUS INJURY. SHE NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER OF THE EQUIPMENT AND THE VEHICLE, BUT NEITHER SOURCES WOULD ASSUME LIABILITY. THE CONTACT HAS PICTURES OF THE FAILED COMPONENT AND THE CRASH. MY KIA SEDONA IS IN THE ZIESER SERVICE CENTER AGAIN. I HAD TO TAKE IT IN FOR THE HORN AND OTHER CONCERNS. THE HORN DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK AND THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE DEALER SAID THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE, BUT WHEN MY HUSBAND AND I DRIVE THE VEHICLE IT DOES NOT WORK ON A CONSISTENT BASIS. THEY HAVE HAD TO REPLACE PARTS ON THIS HORN ALREADY ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. AND I HAVE HAD TO BRING IT BACK ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS SINCE THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE AT FIRST. ON MY LAST VISIT THE SERVICE DEPT TURNED THE ROTORS FOR THE BRAKES. I TOLD THEM THAT IT IS NOW SQUEALING SINCE THEY DID THIS AND I WANTED TO KNOW WHY. WHEN THEY CALLED TO TELL ME MY CAR WAS READY, THEY SAID I OWED $25 TO LOOK AT THE BRAKES. I ASK WHY AND DAVE IN SERVICE SAID THAT THEIR TECH TOOK OVER 2 HOURS TO LOOK FOR PROBLEMS AND NO ONE WAS GOING TO PAY THEM (MEANING KIA), SO I NEEDED TO PAY. I TOLD THEM I WANTED TO KNOW WHY I DID NOT HAVE A SQUEAK BEFORE AND THEN AFTER THEY DID SOME WARRANTY WORK ON THE VAN I DID HAVE A SQUEAK. I ALSO STATED THAT I HAVE A SAFETY CONCERN ABOUT THE CAR FEELING LIKE IT IS BEING PUSHED WHEN YOU ARE SLOWING DOWN AND YOU GET TO 30-35 MPH. HE SAID THIS IS NORMAL. LASTLY, THE CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT DECELERATE WHEN GOING DOWN HILLS (EVEN A SLIGHT GRADE). IT DOES NOT DO THIS ON A CONSISTENT BASIS. THEY TOLD ME THIS IS NORMAL, BUT WHEN I DRIVE IT ACCELERATES AND IF I HAVE IT SET AT SAY 40 MPH I HAVE TO APPLY TO BRAKES BECAUSE I HAVE HAD IT ACCELERATE PAST 60 MPH. AGAIN, I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT MY VEHICLE AND THE FACT THAT THERE ARE SAFETY ISSUES THAT I FEEL NEED TO BE CORRECTED. EVEN THOUGH THEY STATE THAT THE HORN IS WORKING CORRECTLY, WHEN I WAS DRIVING THIS WEEKEND, I WAS CUT OFF BY A CAR AND WHEN I WENT TO HONK THE HORN IT DID NOT WORK. AND WHEN I TESTED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, IT DID NOT WORK. MY HUSBAND ALSO WAS CUT OFF (THERE IS IN INTERSECTION THAT IS NOTORIOUS FOR THIS BY OUR HOME) AND HE COULD NOT GET IT TO WORK.

JUST PURCHASED NEW 2006 KIA SEDONA VAN(CURRENT MILES 512) AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS(SAFETY CONCERN) VAN HAS POWER DOOR LOOKS. KIA CUST. SERVICE SAYS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ALONG WITH THE LOCAL DEALER. HYUNDAI(SISTER COMPANY)ON THEIR ENTOURAGE VAN DOES HAVE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOOKS. I HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH MY HYUNDAI 2006 SONATA WHERE IN IT ALSO CAME WITHOUT AUTO DOOR LOOKS AND I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND WITH IN 20 MIN. THEY DID A REPROGRAM OF THE COMPUTER AND NOW IT HAS AUO DOOR LOOKS. SINCE THE KIA & HYUNDAI ARE ON THE SAME PLATFORM, SAME ENGINE TRANSMISSION I BELIEVE THE SITUATION CAN BE CORRECTED BY A SIMPLE PROGRAM CHANGE THAT THE MANUFACTURE SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR. SAFETY OF INTERNAL PASSENGERS AND CHILDREN IS MOST IMPORTANT AND THIS DEFECT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. *JB
