I was driving and my Kia started over heating and smoking and smelled like plastic burning I got it towed to the Hendricks of Kia and it sat there for 2weeks and I contacted them about giving me a lender until they fix my engine problem and they told me that my engine is not under warranty but is a recall I didn’t blow my engine I recently bought it about 6 months ago
My headlights are not working properly. This is an ongoing issue with Kia model vehicles- check online forums
This very dangerous issue has happened at least 3 times. It happens in frequently but is terrible when it happens because at night you are put into immediate darkness with no warning. Upon flashing the high beams on or using the turn signal the headlights go dark/off. Then you need to restart the car. This is particularly dangerous when driving on dark or high traffic roads because the driver cannot see anything.
My Kia Sorento 2011 in November 2023 started having the instrument cluster warning lights flashing, abs warning light, tire pressure light and sometimes the check engine light. There is also a very strong burning or melting smell when the car is on. I was very scared to drive my car and have had to find ways to get to work when I received the notice from Kia that there was a recall SC284. About HECU fuse that many Kia Sorento 2011 owners are having issues with the engines catching fire while driving or parked. And the symtoms before a fire occurs are the same as I have experienced with the instrument cluster illuminating and the strong burning smell as well. Its April 2024 and I haven't had a car since November 2023 because the recall has yet to be remedied. This is completely unacceptable I cannot drive I cant take my car to emmissions and might eventually get my car towed due to not being able to it not passing emissions and cant pass for registration. There needs to be compensation for this inconvenience and for this recall not being a priority.
The ABS, downhill assist, and engine light stay on constantly, even though the clock spring has been replaced and multiple car repair shops are unable to diagnose a “problem.” When driving, the vehicle seems like the engine is getting extremely hot and starts to sputter and even cuts off at times. There are currently recalls on 2011 Sorentos for fire risk while parked and fire risk while driving. However, my VIN is not included in the recall for fire risk while driving, but I believe it should be based on the inability to diagnose a problem with my engine. Vehicle is well maintained. 2011 Kia Sorento headlights come on during the bright part of the day and also turn off while driving at night in the auto mode. It is dangerous to be driving while at night when headlights just go out at any time and all the other inside dash lights go dim. It also happens that the headlights come on during the afternoon when it is bright outside also and causes the inside dash lights to go dim. Have seen several Kia owners complaining about this same issue. Very, very dangerous to drive at night. No warning of this is going to happen. This is putting us and others at risk of a life threatening situation. No dealership or auto repair shop can address the problem unless they are there when it actually happens. It is available for inspection at anytime to fix this problem.

NO Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? NO Started a while ago. Haven’t driving it since fall.

My headlights are randomly going off and back on while driving. It was just happening under the auto setting while turning, then on auto only at anytime. Remained on in the “on” mode. Last night went off on the highway under the ON mode so getting worse.
My headlights are randomly turning off when driving at night. This is a serious safety issue and possibly a defect. Also have sensors (down hill assist) that have failed.
Kia Sorento 2011 LX 2.4L Oil disappears weekly, I have to check it often and/or refill. I use the required oil it calls for on the engine oil cap. Vehicle jolts while driving. I've been parked with vehicle off, turned it on, reversed from parking spot and about an tenth of a mile vehicle stalled, put it in park, and restarted. While driving headlights flicker Tapping/knocking noise from engine area, checked oil and its full, mechanic can't seem to find issue. Some forums have suggested throttl control module?
Headlights either blink on and off or turn off for about 5 seconds and then will go back on. It also will blink when using the directional. It does this while driving and parked. Also, the horn has just stopped working.
Headlights you can't leave them on automatic the lights will stay on and kill your battery. The lights blink off and on sometimes when use turn signal, and sometime goes completely out while driving at night have a fear of running into someone or off hwy. No inspections. No lamp warning messages. I bought the Vehicle used May of 2021 and notice problems about a couple of months later.

The contact stated while driving at night at an undisclosed speed, the contact was noticed while making a slight turn, the driver’s and passenger’s side headlights stopped functioning as designed. The failure also occurred while using the turn signals. The contact had to manually activate the headlights after the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure or determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000. Subsequent to the initial complaint, in December 2021, the car owner, Ed Ruzicka, decided to see if replacing the turn signal/wiper control shaft would fix this problem. I did so at my own expense. The lights no longer blink off. Still this seems to be a manufacturer defect rather than mere wear. This has never happened on any vehicle which I have owned before. I am 70. The concern is that this is dangerous. I believe that it should be addressed.

My 2011 Kia Sorento headlights blink on and off when I’m drinking it’s very scary driving at night because I don’t know when it may happen it’s been happening on and off
Passenger low beam kept burning out. I kept replacing. This morning, on my way home from work (I work nights on an ambulance) I could smell burning, and saw that the light was out once again. Got home, and the entire connector/wiring to the bulb was completely melted and sizzling, with a small flame at the base of the plastic connector. This is outrageous. There were recalls for this EXACT issue for other Sorentos, but mine was not included. This could have started a major vehicle fire, and I cannot afford a vehicle electrician. Kia should be replacing this.
Tail light continues to blow. Changed both bulbs twice in a week. The left socket has burn mark, and light blows immediately after replacing bulb. This has been continously over the past 2 years.
When driving at night my headlights flicker off and on for about 3 seconds, also when I attempt to use my turn signal, the lights will blink out and I have to jiggle the handle to get the lights to come back on. Sometimes when I turn the corner the head lights will blink off and then come back on and this takes about 3 scary seconds. Unable to drive in an unfamiliar or dark area because the lights are subject to go out. There is no warning light, message or other symptom to address the problem. I was told that there might be a recall on this issue. Is there any technical service bulletin addressing this issue. Please advise as this can be a very dangerous situation

MY HEADLIGHTS KEEP GOING OUT. A FEW WEEKS AGO, I LEFT FOR WORK AT 5AM, TRAVELING ON AN UNLIT ROAD WHEN MY HEADLIGHTS COMPLETELY FLICKER OFF. I HAD TO WAIT UNTIL DAYLIGHT TO GET TO WORK. WHEN I GOT BACK IN AFTER MY SHIFT, THE HEADLIGHTS WORKED AGAIN. A FEW DAYS LATER, THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT WENT OUT. I REPLACED IT. A FEW DAYS LATER, IT WENT OUT AGAIN. MY HUSBAND CHECKED IT AND FOUND THE PART THAT THE BULB GOES IN WAS MELTED. NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK, CHANGED BULBS MULTIPLE TIMES, TRIED CERAMIC PARTS, EVEN REWIRED IT. MECHANICS TELL ME IT'S AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE, BUT THEN THEY CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM WHEN THEY LOOK AT MY CAR. I'VE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE KIA SORENTO. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE FOR ANYONE TRAVELING AT NIGHT. WHY ISN'T THIS A RECALL ISSUE?

GENERAL COMPLAINT-THE MATERIAL ENCLOSING VEHICLE FRONT LIGHTING BECAME INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO ALLOW SUFFICIENT LIGHT TO PASS THROUGH. ALL ATTEMPTS TO CLEAN THE SURFACE FAILED, AS IT APPEARED (TO A LAYMAN) THAT THE MATERIAL WAS CHANGING CHEMICALLY. DEALER REPLACEMENT WAS EXCESSIVELY EXPENSIVE. I PURCHASED AND INSTALLED AN AFTER-MARKET REPLACEMENT-TOO SOON TO EVALUATE OVER TIME, BUT INITIAL RESULTS SHOW EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE WITH NO APPARENT CHANGE.

LIGHTS OTHER TIMES MIGHT JUST GO OFF BRIEFLY, OR REQUIRE DRIVER TO PUT HIGH BEAMS ON THEN TOGGLE DOWN TO LOW BEAMS. OCCURS OFTEN ON HIGHWAY AND SECONDARY ROADS. MANY SIMILAR REPORTS ON INTERNET. THERE HAD BEEN A WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR LOW BEAM WIRE HARNESS THAT MAY OR MAY NOT BE ASSOCIATED, HOWEVER ANY LOSS OF LIGHTS DUE TO A KNOWN PROBLEM IS CLEARLY A SAFETY HAZARD. KIA HAS A HISTORY OF MINIMIZING ISSUES THAT SHOULD BE SAFETY RECALLS. DEALERSHIP SERVICE AREA CONTINUALLY STATES THEY CANNOT RECREATE ISSUE, OF COURSE THEY ATTEMPT DURING THE DAY LIGHT HOURS.

THE ISSUE I AM HAVING IS THAT THE ENTIRE LIGHTING SYSTEM WILL SHUT OFF WHEN DRIVING. ITS SPONTANEOUS WHEN IT DOES IT BUT IT SOMETIMES COMES BACK ON. THERE WAS A REPLACEMENT OF THE PASSENGER CV AXLE. IT WAS AFTERMARKET AND NOT OEM. I HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT LOW BEAM WIRING HARNESS AND BULBS AT MY OWN COST TWICE. ONCE IN FLORIDA AND ANOTHER IN MY HOME STATE. ALSO THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT ISN'T WORKING PROPERLY. THEY SENT ME THE RECALLS ON BOTH. THEN PROCEEDED TO SAY THAT THE RECALL FOR THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS UNDER RECALL. ALSO IF I COULD NOT GET OR FIND MY RECEIPTS FROM THE MECHANIC SHOP. I WOULD NOT GET REIMBURSED. HEADLIGHT LOW BEAM LIGHT NOT WORKING. REPLACED BULB AND WITHIN A FEW WEEKS, IT WOULD WORK INTERMITTENTLY. I COULD WIGGLE THE CONNECTION AND LIGHT WOULD COME BACK ON. THEN THAT NO LONGER WORKED. I TOOK THE BULB OUT OF THE CONNECTION TO REPLACE AND NOTICED THE CONNECTION WAS MELTED WHERE THE BULB CONNECTS TO THE WIRE HARNESS. I REMOVED BULB UNTIL CONNECTION CAN BE REPLACED.
VEHICLE HAS CONSISTENTLY NEEDED HEADLIGHTS REPLACED EVERY 3 MONTHS. VEHICLE LIGHTS WILL COME ON AND OR OFF WHILE DRIVING IN THE DARK. THIS IS A DEADLY SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD BE REMEDIED.

THE HEADLIGHTS STAY OFF FOR A FEW SECONDS AND REPETITIVELY AT RANDOM TIMES. THIS HAS OCCURRED BOTH EARLY IN THE MORNING, IN THE EVENINGS, IT ALSO HAPPENS JUST IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY TO THE DASH LIGHTS AND WITH THE CLICKING. THIS HAS OCCURRED IN WINTER AS WELL AS SUMMER. ORIGINALLY IT ONLY OCCURRED WHEN IT WAS RAINING, NOW IT OCCURS DAILY. THIS HAS OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN PARK AND WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAYS, ON BACK ROADS, ALSO AT STOP LIGHTS OR A STOP SIGN. THE CLICKING HAS ALSO OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN OFF, IT WILL START MAKING CLICKING NOISES COMING FROM THE DASH AREA, THE SAME NOISE AS IT MAKES WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS AND INTERIOR AND DASH LIGHTS FLICKER WHEN IT IS ON. ALSO AFTER HAVING A RECALL REPAIRED I AM STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE START STOP NOT STARTING, AS WELL AS THE DOORS NOT UNLOCKING WITH THE KIA REMOTE OR BY PUSHING THE BUTTON ON THE EXTERIOR HANDLE. THE VEHICLE HAS ALSO LOST STEERING CONTROL DURING EXCESSIVE RAIN. THIS OCCURRED ON A SIDE STREET WHILE I WAS ATTEMPTING TO TURN OFF OF A MAIN ROAD ONTO A SIDE ROAD THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT TURN. IT PROCEEDED TO GO AT A DIAGONAL, ONLY PARTIALLY TURNING INTO A FRONT LAWN DURING THE TURN. IT WAS RAINING WHEN THIS OCCURRED. I KNOW THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER ISSUES WITH THE PHANTOM HEADLIGHTS IN OTHER KIA MODELS. AND THEY ARE NOT FIXING THE ISSUE, THEY ARE SAYING IT IS NOT OCCURRING. ALSO THEY ARE SAYING THEY NEED TO REPLACE A PART THAT COST $400 BUT IT MAY NOT FIX THE ISSUE. I HAVE LEFT THE MANAGER A MESSAGE AT THE KIA IN MYRTLE BEACH AND HAVE ASKED FOR A GOOD FAITH REPAIR AND I HAVE NOT HEARD BACK.
MY ROOM LP FUSE KEEPS BLOWING. IT HAD A RECALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. I WENT OUT AND STARTED MY CAR AND SEEN THAT THE CLOCK AND INTERIOR LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING. I PULLED FUSE PUT A NEW ONE IN AND WHEN I STARTED IT AGAIN IT BLEW AGAIN. THEN THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND IT IS STAYING ON. I HAVE REPLACED THE ROOM LP FUSE ABOUT 12 TIMES. IT WAS A RECALL GOT FIXED AND HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN.

AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, I FOUND MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND IN 2013, THERE WAS A RECALL FOR 2011 KIA SORENTOS BECAUSE THE BRAKE LAMP SWITCH WAS FAULTY. AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER. I WAS TOLD MY VIN WAS NOT ONE OF THE ONES RECALLED.. I HAD NO IDEA MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING UNTIL I WAS PULLED OVER BY THE POLICE WHILE DRIVING THROUGH THE CITY. I HAVE ATTACHED A COPY OF THE RECALL NOTICE

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS OPERATED INTERMITTENTLY AND THE STEERING WHEEL PULLED TO THE RIGHT. THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THEY TOLD ME THAT BECAUSE I HAD IT FIXED SO MANY TIME THAT THERES NOT ENOUGH WIRE TO REPLACE IT AGAIN THIS WAS ON MAY 14 2019 AND THEY SAID THAT MY WHOLE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE CHANGED IN ORDER TO FIX IT BUT THEY WOULD HAVE TO ASK KIA FOR COVERAGE . ON MAY 30TH I CALLED AGAIN TO SEE IF THEY WERE GONNA COVER IT AND THEY SAID NO EVEN THO THIS A SAFETY CONCERN. THAT BECAUSE I DIDN'T GO TO THEM TO FIX IT IN THE FIRST PLACE THEY WONT COVER IT .
FIRST WARNING SIGN WAS THE HEADLIGHT, LOW BEAMS, AND ALL INTERIOR ELECTRONICS WOULD SHUT COMPLETELY OFF FOR ABOUT 2 SECONDS RANDOMLY WHEN THE TURN SIGNAL WAS USED. NEXT THE DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT, LOW BEAM, WENT OUT WHEN REPLACING THE BULB THE REPLACEMENT BULB WORKED UNTIL THE BULB WAS PLACED IN THE SOCKET. AFTER CLEANING THE SOCKETS TO CREATE A BETTER CONNECTION, STILL NOTHING WORKED. I SWITCHED BULBS FROM DRIVER TO PASSENGER TO SEE IF THE BULB WOULD GET A GOOD CONNECTION ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND NOW NEITHER LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT WORKS. THIS IS A LIGHT SWITCH ISSUE THAT WAS RECALLED FOR 2012-16 KIA SORENTO'S BUT I'M HAVING THE SAME ISSUE IN A 2011.

FOR THE SECOND TIME IN THE PAST 3 YEARS, THE PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT SOCKET HAS MELTED, MAKING THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT NON-FUNCTIONAL. I DO NOT USE MY LOW BEAMS AS DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS AND, AFTER THE FIRST MELTDOWN OF THE SOCKET, I CONSCIOUSLY TRIED TO USE THE HEADLIGHTS SPARINGLY. THE MANUAL REFERENCES A 55 WATT REPLACEMENT BULB AND THAT IS WHAT I AM USING. THE AUTO PARTS STORE CLERK ALSO LOOKED UP THE REPLACEMENT BULB AND GUIDED ME TO THE BULB I AM USING. I AM CONCERNED THE MELTED SOCKET COULD CAUSE A FIRE AND, THEREFORE, I FEAR DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT NIGHT, IN THE RAIN, OR AT ANY OTHER TIME LOW BEAMS ARE REQUIRED. MY MECHANIC THOUGHT IT IS A VOLTAGE PROBLEM. WITH A 6-YEAR OLD VEHICLE AND NEARLY 150,000 MILES, I AM RELUCTANT TO SINK A LARGE SUM OF MONEY INTO REPAIRS. GIVEN THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THE SOCKETS HAVE MELTED (2X PASSENGER SIDE; 1X DRIVER SIDE), I BELIEVE THIS IS A CHRONIC ISSUE THAT KIA SHOULD ADDRESS. RELEASING & RE-CONNECTING SEAT BELT HAD NO EFFECT. THE 1ST TIME IT HAPPENED @ NIGHT I REALIZED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS & DASH LIGHTS WOULD FLASH ON & OFF ALSO. STILL COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM, BUT BEING A MECHANIC I WATCHED FOR IT TO HAPPEN AND TRIED DIFFERENT THINGS TO SEE IF THEY HAD ANY EFFECT ON THE ISSUE. ON THE WAY HOME, WHILE DRIVING A RURAL ROAD, THE LIGHTS AGAIN STARTED BLINKING ON & OFF CAUSING ME TO HIT A METAL POLE A DRAINAGE DITCH THRU FARMER'S FENCE INTO HIS FIELD. ACCIDENT PUSHED METAL BUMPER (BEHIND BUMPER COVER) BACK ABOUT 12", TORE THE ENTIRE FRONT END &LIGHTS FROM CAR & BENT HOOD BACK 1 1/2 FEET AND BUCKLED IT UPWARD - ALL OF THIS WITHOUT EVER DEPLOYING THE AIRBAG.THESE PROBLEMS ARE PREVALENT IN THIS CAR AS I HAVE READ, BUT I NOW HAVE A VEHICLE WHICH DESPITE IT'S DAMAGE WILL NOW DUPLICATE THE LIGHTS GOING ON & OFF EVERY TIME THE CAR IS TURNED ON. THE BULBS FOR THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS HAVE BEEN "BURNING OUT" AT THE RATE OF ONCE A MONTH. LAST MONTH, THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY PLUGIN TO THE BULB WAS MELTED DUE TO "A POOR CONTACT" OR SHORT IN THE WIRING". UNFORTUNATELY THEY SAID I NEED AN ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY (ABOUT A $400 PART AND $250 LABOR) AS THEY WON'T JUST SELL THE CONNECTION PLUG. FRUSTRATED I FOUND A GREAT MECHANIC WHO CUT AND SPLICED A NEW CONNECTION PLUG AND IT SEEMS TO BE WORKING. HOWEVER THE CONCERN IS THAT THERE IS STILL A "SHORT" IN THE WIRING AND WILL EVENTUALLY DO THE SAME THING TO THE NEW PLUG. I HAVE NOW HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE OTHER SIDE AND AM HOPING THAT SOMEONE ELSE HAS FOUND THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. THE OTHER COMPLAINT IS THAT THIS IS NOT COVERED BY THE ANY WARRANTY. I CAME TO A STOP, SUDDENLY THE DASH LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING, AND THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I TURNED THE KEY A COUPLE OF TIMES BUT NOTHING HAPPENED, I TURNED OFF THE RADIO AND THEN TURNED ON MY EMERGENCY FLASHERS. I THEN PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED THE KEY AGAIN. THIS TIME THE CAR STARTED AND I DROVE IT HOME. TWO DAYS LATER THE SORENTO WAS TAKEN TO THE SHOP. POSSIBLE REASON GIVEN ON THE WORKORDER FOR THE STALLING/SHUTTING DOWN WAS THAT THE GAS TANK HAD BEEN OVERFILLED. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO TOLD MY HUSBAND THAT THIS PROBLEM HAD BEEN REPORTED IN OTHER VEHICLES AND SHOULD BE SOLVED BY THE BRAKE SWITCH RECALL, SERVICE BULLETIN 13V114000. HE EXPLAINED THAT THE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM RECEIVES A SIGNAL FROM THE BRAKE SWITCH FOR THE STARTING PROCESS AND, IF THE SIGNAL IS NOT RECEIVED, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START. BECAUSE OF THE FAULTY BRAKE SWITCH, HE STATED THAT IT COULD INTERRUPT THE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE BY SENDING AN ERRONEOUS SIGNAL TO THE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM, ACTIVATING THE "NO START" PROCESS. EVEN WITH THE VEHICLE RUNNING, THIS WOULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO CUT OUT. HE FURTHER STATED THIS RECALL REPLACEMENT OF THE BRAKE LIGHT SIGNAL SWITCH SHOULD CURE THAT PROBLEM. AFTER RUNNING A COMPLETE DIAGNOSTIC CHECK ON THE VEHICLE, THE SERVICE REP SAID THERE WERE NO STORED CODES IN THE ENGINE CONTROL MEMORY INDICATING A FAULT. SINCE SHUTTING THE MOTOR OFF DUE TO AN ERRONEOUS SIGNAL THAT THE BRAKE WAS NOT ENGAGED IS NOT A SET FAULT CODE, THIS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN RECORDED. ALSO, THE REP STATED THAT IF A FAULT HAD OCCURRED, IT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN IN PLACE LONG ENOUGH TO RECORD A FAULT CODE. IN MY OPINION THE SIMPLE FIX IS TO DESIGN THE DASHBOARD GAGES SO THEY ARE VISIBLE DURING THE DAY WITH OUT, OR WITH MINIMAL, LIGHTING SO THAT AS DAYLIGHT WANES THE DASH BECOMES MORE DIFFICULT TO SEE THEREBY PROVIDING THE DRIVER WITH A VISUAL QUE TO TURN ON THE VEHICLE'S LIGHTS. I HAVE NOTICED OTHER VEHICLE MAKES BEING OPERATED WITH THE HEADLIGHTS OFF BUT THE DASHBOARD WELL ILLUMINATED (WHILE BEING PASSED ON THE HIGHWAY) IN LOW LIGHT CONDITIONS.
