The low-beam headlights frequently burn out, approximately every 6 months. Upon inspection by multiple repair shops, the wiring harnesses have been found to be blowing the bulb yet each shop has replaced with a variety of parts. The suspicion is the wiring and power source are causing issues. Each side of the vehicle has had the wiring harness replaced with the right side being replaced twice and currently in need of a third replacement. The initial replacement was in 2018 and most recent replacement was 2023. The headlight will flicker on and off intermittently before the bulb or wiring harness blow. There is no predicting when this will occur which leaves the driver at risk of losing one or both headlights, needing immediate repair for safety and to avoid a potential ticket from the police.

My regular lights on pasenger side keeps going out. The harness keeps melting. And my sunroof rubber pieces keep coming undone hitting the glass of sunroof causing very loud noises while driving sounds like the glass is going to break.

The contact owns a 2012 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that the front headlights had begun to flicker and then would turn off while driving at night. The contact stated that the failure had started as an intermittent failure, however, the low beam setting had failed and no longer worked. The contact only had high beams. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had opened the hood during daylight and saw that the headlight wiring harness and connectors had melted on the driver's side. The contact stated that she could touch the passenger side lamp harness and the light would work. However, if she attempted to tighten the harness connection the light would not work. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 133,000.

My headlight are so dim at night I have to drive with my high beams on. I've cleaned and replaced bulbs and they are still very dim.

Replaced the headlight bulbs in my wife's car around 80k miles when 2 of the 4 bulbs went out. I noticed the lenses were discolored from the inside slightly but didn't put much thought into it. The vehicle now has a little over 144k miles and I have replaced the high beam bulbs once again, and the low beam bulbs twice more, and the low beam bulbs I have had to replace the connector due to burning on both sides, and the driver side is burnt out again. This shouldn't happen and means there is too much power going to the bulb, which is a fire hazard as well as a safety hazard as I can't keep a bulb working in that slot.

My passenger headlight went out again. I've taken to the dealer. They replaced the burnt out fog lights too. This is the 4th time in less than a year! I filed previous complaints. Had the headlights replaced repeatedly. Something keeps shorting out. There's an electrical problem. I can't keep replacing my headlights all the time. When the one side goes out, the other follows. This is becoming a real safety issue.

The contact owns a 2012 Kia Sorento. The contact noticed that the driver’s side headlamp failed to operate as needed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the wiring had melted, and the headlamp socket needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, a couple of months later the failure recurred on the passenger’s side. The vehicle was taken back to the mechanic where it was diagnosed the wiring melted and the passenger’s side headlamp socket needed to be replaced. The dealer was contacted twice. The manufacturer was notified of the failure twice. The approximate failure mileage was 147,000. Headlight has replaced once 02/22/2022.

Passenger side low beam headlight keeps burning out. Had bulb replaced one month ago, burnt out again. Had it replaced several times. One time recently the mechanic had to also replace the wiring connections because it melted.

Low beam headlights on passenger side burn out at a rate of 1 to 2 per year. I am the original owner and the vehicle has never been in an accident. Dealer replaced headlight wiring and high beam switch on steering column under warranty because plug at headlamp melted and switch seemed faulty. This repair was approximately 4 years ago. Headlights burning out has been a problem since new. Seems to happen most often when High beams are used and going back to low beams. Inspect at any time. Living in rural Texas with little to no street lights it can be unnerving to have the low beam on one side unexpectant burn out. I write all of this because it burned out again last night and it's getting frustrating.

Passenger side headlight went out while driving. Went to replace bulb and found connector melted. Quick internet search shows this is not uncommon and even a YouTube tutorial on how to replace the pigtail. Question remains what caused the overheating in the first place? While it's a major inconvenience at this point as we can't drive the vehicle without fear of getting a ticket or repair order until fixed, worst case scenario this happens to both at night?

IT RAN FINE, BUT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. THERE WAS NO APPARENT SOUNDS OF ENGINE TROUBLE ...SO I CONTINUED MY ROUTE. THE NEXT DAY IT STARTED FINE, NO BAD NOISES, BUT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON...I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES UNTIL IT STALLED AGAIN WHILE ON FWY. WAS ABLE TO RESTART, BUT COMPRESSION WAS LOW ON ENGINE, SO I PULLED OFF AND HAD IT TOWED TO SHOP. THEY TOLD ME THE OIL WAS DOWN 4 QTS. AND HAD CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT WENT OUT. THE CLIP ON THE HOUSING THAT HOLDS THE HEADLIGHT WAS BROKEN. REPLACED IT. LIGHT STARTED WORKING THEN WENT OUT AGAIN. THIS TIME THE WIRES IN THE HOUSING CAME LOOSE. LIGHT OUT AGAIN. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THE CAR IS STATIONARY, IN MOTION, IT'LL WORK WHEN IT WANTS TO. AS FOR THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE....PULLED INTO A CAR WASH TO SPRAY IT OFF. TURNED AROUND TO START AND NOTICED ON THE DRIVER SIDE MIRROR A SPOT OF PAINT MISSING ABOUT THE SIZE OF A QUARTER. DOWN TO THE PRIMER. THE PAINT IS DARK CHERRY PEARL. THE LIGHT STAYED ON FOR A DAY, THEN WENT OUT WHILE I WAS AGAIN DRIVING ABOUT 55MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. THE NEXT MORNING WHEN I TURNED THEM ON AGAIN IT CAME BACK ON SO I THOUGHT IT WAS FIXED, THEN WHILE I WAS ON THAT SAME HIGHWAY IT WENT OUT AGAIN AND IT HASN'T COME BACK ON.

SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE BRAND NEW IN DECEMBER 2011 I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHT WIRING 4 TIMES AND HAVE TO CHANGE THE HEADLIGHT BULB AT LEAST ONCE EVERY 2-3 MONTHS. EACH TIME I HAVE HAD THE WIRING HARNESS REPLACED AFTER THE THIRD LIGHT BULB CHANGE THE WIRING HARNESS BEGINS TO MELT AND THEN LOSES CONNECTION WITH THE BULB THEREFOR MY HEADLIGHTS ARE INTERMITTENT.

ON OCCASION, THE PASSENGER SIDE LIGHT POWERS BACK ON AFTER THE REAR HOUSING HAS BEEN MOVED. IN INCIDENTS WHEN THE LIGHT HAS FAILED, THERE IS A BURN MARK ON THE OUTER CONTACT PORTION OF THE BULB. THIS AFFECTS ALL LEVELS OF DRIVING AS YOU CAN FIND YOURSELF NEARLY INVISIBLE AND GIVE ZERO INDICATION OF STOPPING TO VEHICLES AROUND YOU.

TOOK IT BACK IN AND THEN THEY REPLACED THE HARNESS. THEY FORGOT TO MENTION THERE WAS AN ISSUE AND MADE IT SOUND LIKE THEY DID ME A FAVOR FIXING IT FOR FREE. FAST FORWARD A YEAR AND I START HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS. THEY TELL ME THAT THEY WILL DIAGNOSE FOR $150 AND IF IT IS THE WIRING HARNESS IT WILL COST ME AN ADDITIONAL $300. IT WAS THE WIRING HARNESSES THEY DIDN'T CHARGE ME FOR THE DIAGNOSE BUT IT STILL COST $250. I TOLD THEM THAT IT WAS THE SAME ISSUE AS THE HEADLIGHT. THEY DIDN'T CARE BECAUSE I DIDN'T BRING IT IN EVERY TIME THE BULBS BLEW TO PAY $20 TO REPLACE THE BULBS. GOT IT REPAIRED 5/2019 NOW THE BRAKE LIGHT IS OUT AGAIN.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE HEADLIGHT FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT IS WIDESPREAD ON THESE MODELS, BUT THEY WILL NOT ADMIT. WE DO NOT HAVE $600 TO $1000 TO COMPLETELY REPLACE THE ENTIRE WIRING AND ASSEMBLY. FOR WHAT I PAID, I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO FOR AN ENGINEERING/DESIGN FLAW. THE LACK OF CONCERN KIA HAS SHOWN THIS WIDESPREAD ISSUE SHOWS A DISREGARD FOR CONSUMER SAFETY. THIS WILL BE MY LAST KIA UNLESS SOMETHING IS DONE.

A LITTLE AFTER 100,000 MILES, THE LOW BEAM LIGHTS CONTINUOUSLY WENT OUT. THERE WAS NO RHYME OR REASON. I SIMPLY BOUGHT MORE LIGHTS AND REPLACED THEM UNTIL ONE DAY I FOUND THE DRIVER SIDE CONNECTOR HAD MELTED. I WAS ABLE TO BUY A NEW HARNESS AND HAVE IT WIRED IN. THEN, ABOUT A YEAR LATER, THE PASSENGER SIDE CONNECTOR LOOKS LIKE IT IS STARTING TO COME APART, WITH THE LOW BEAM LIGHT FAILING ABOUT 50% OF THE TIME NOW - SO I ASSUME THAT THIS ONE IS ALSO ON THE WAY TO MELTING AS IT IS FOLLOWING THE SAME MANNERS AS THE DRIVER SIDE HAD PRIOR TO MELTING.

ISSUE #1: THE LF HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY ON MY VEHICLE EVEN AFTER BEING REPAIRED AND THEN REPLACED CONTINUES TO STOP WORKING. IN AUGUST 2017, MY LF HEADLIGHT STARTED INTERMITTENTLY GOING OUT AND BY SEPTEMBER 2017 FAILED PERMANENTLY. I CHECKED THE LIGHT BULB WHICH WASN'T THE ISSUE AND FOUND THAT THE CONNECTOR TO THE BULB WAS BURNT OUT WITH ONE OF THE PRONGS MELTED. I CUT OFF THE END AND REPLACED IT WITH A NEW SOCKET (A H8/H11 HEADLIGHT WIRING HARNESS SOCKET - DORMAN# 84783). AFTER REPLACING THE SOCKET, I DROVE MY VEHICLE A COUPLE DAYS AND LF HEADLIGHT FAILED ONCE AGAIN. FIRST SHUTTING OFF INTERMITTENTLY AND THEN COMPLETELY. I THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP, DARCARS LANHAM KIA, 9020 LANHAM SEVERN RD, LANHAM, MD 20706. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLE HAD A SHORT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME, ORDERED A NEW HEADLIGHT, INSTALLED IT AND THEN DROVE MY VEHICLE FOR A COUPLE MORE DAYS. ONCE AGAIN, THE HEADLIGHT STARTED TO FAIL INTERMITTENTLY, SO I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. THE NEW HEADLIGHT FAILED COMPLETELY WHILE AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP IS NOW ASKING ME TO BUY ANOTHER HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY WHILE THEY REACH OUR TO KIA TO IDENTIFY ANY OTHER POSSIBLE CAUSES FOR THE FAILURE. ISSUE #2: IN SEPTEMBER 2017, BOTH THE LF AND RF FOG LIGHTS STARTED ALSO FAILING INTERMITTENTLY. AT THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAY THAT PIECES OF THE HOUSINGS FOR BOTH FOG LIGHTS HAVE FALLEN INTO THE LIGHTING AREA AND ARE HITTING THE LIGHT BULBS CAUSING THEM TO INTERMITTENTLY GO OUT. AND, OF COURSE MY EXPENSE EXTENDED WARRANTY DOESN'T COVER THE LF HEADLIGHT NOR THE FOG LIGHTS! MY VEHICLE HAS ABOUT 85,000 MILES AND THE PREMIUM WARRANTY WHICH LAST UP TO 100,000 MILES IS COMPLETELY USELESS. SO NOW, MY VEHICLE NOW ONLY HAS ONE WORKING HEADLIGHT AND ITS A RELATIVELY NEW VEHICLE!

ONE HEADLIGHT WENT OUT. I REPLACED BOTH BULBS. IT APPEARS, WHEN STANDING IN FRONT OF MY CAR, THAT THE LIGHTS ARE ON, BUT THEY ARE VERY DIM. WHEN I AM DRIVING, IT IS NOT LIGHTING MY PATH. MY PASSENGERS HAVE NOTICED, AND ONCOMING TRAFFIC OFTEN FLASHES THEIR LIGHTS AT ME. I NEED IT FIXED IMMEDIATELY, BC I DRIVE UBER/LYFT FOR EMPLOYMENT. I WAS DRIVING IN A DIMLY LIT AREA, WHEN I FIRST NOTICED THAT I COULDN'T SEE WELL IN FRONT OF ME. LATER, THAT HOUR, AN UBER CUSTOMER, INFORMED ME MY LIGHTS WERE OUT. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHEN IT IS DOCUMENTED. LOOK AT ALL THE COMPLAINTS WHY KIA HAS NOT BEEN MADE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. INSTEAD OF LETTING THEM CONTINUE MANUFACTURING VEHICLES WITH THE SAME HEADLIGHTS. MY LOW BEAM PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT WENT OUT ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO. I PURCHASED A NEW BULB BUT WHEN MY HUSBAND INSERTED THE NEW BULB IT WOULDN'T WORK. MY HUSBAND DOES ELECTRICAL WORK AND SAID THIS HAS TO BE A SHORT OR SOMETHING IN THE WIRING. WHY DOES THE OWNERS HAVE TO CONTINUE DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE AND SUBJECTED TO THE POSSIBILITY OF A SERIOUS ACCIDENT DUE TO NO WORKING LIGHTS OR POSSIBLE FATALITIES. I FEEL LIKE I NEED TO CARRY A BACK UP. PLUS MY PLASTIC POS DOOR PANELS DETACH AND TRAP MY KIDS IN THE CAR..WE HAVE TO BEAT THEM DOWN SO SO WE CAN OPEN DOORS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS UNDER THE VIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 89,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

HAVE A 2012 SORENTO THAT CONSTANTLY NEEDS LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS REPLACED BECAUSE OF A SHORT THAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CAN'T FIGURE OUT. I HAVE FOUND THAT SHORTLY AFTER REPLACING ONE BULB THE OTHER BURNS OUT WITHIN A WEEK OR LESS. I HAVE REPLACED BOTH AT THE SAME TIME AND THEY WILL ONLY LAST ONE MONTH BEFORE BURNING OUT. I HAVE A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS BURNING OUT AS WELL. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND KIA HAS SAID THAT REPLACEMENT WITH OEM BULBS SHOULD FIX IT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 KIA SORENTO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT FAILED. THE CONTACT HAD TO SWITCH TO THE HIGH BEAMS IN ORDER TO GET HOME. THE SAME FAILURE OCCURRED THREE OTHER TIMES ON THE SAME SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE MANUFACTURER UTILIZED THE WRONG SIZE WIRE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER THREE TIMES FOR THE SAME FAILURE THIS MONTH AND THE HARNESS HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,500.

PURCHASED NEW 2012 KIA SORENTO SX 3.5 IN MAY 2012. IT NOW HAS 54K MILES. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE HEADLIGHT BULBS BOTH SIDES ON 3 OCCASIONS AND HIGH INTENSITY DRIVING LIGHTS (OEM) 2 TIMES EACH SIDE. THE LAST TIME 12/23/15 THE DEALER (LANGDALE KIA, VALDOSTA GA) STATED THAT THE SOCKET ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DRIVING LIGHT WAS DEFECTIVE, CAUSING THE BULB TO EXPLODE, AND THE INTENSE HEAT AND DEBRIS CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE REFLECTOR AND INTERIOR OF THE LENS HOUSING, MAKING IT NOT REPAIRABLE. THE REPLACEMENT COST INCLUDING 1.5 HR. LABOR IS OVER $300, AND THE SERVICE WRITER STATED IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BE CAUSE OF AGE, MILEAGE, AND THE BULB THAT CAUSED THE DAMAGE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY?? I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE INTERIOR COURTESY LIGHT BULBS AND ALSO TAG LIGHT BULBS. I HAVE SPENT APPROX. $200 SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE! THIS IS RIDICULOUS FOR A $38000 VEHICLE.

ON MONDAY, MARCH 23 AT 8 PM, I ARRIVED HOME AND PARKED MY CAR IN OUR DRIVEWAY CLOSE TO OUR HOUSE. I LOVED UP AND WENT INSIDE. AT 4:30 AM WEDNESDAY MORNING, MY SON CAME INTO OUR BEDROOM SAYING BE THOUGHT SUNSHINE WAS TRYING TO BREAK INTO MY CAR BECAUSE THE CAR ALARM WAS GOING OFF. I WENT TO THE WINDOW TO LOOK OUT, AND IMMEDIATELY SEE THAT THE CAR WAS ON FIRE. THE FLAMES APPEARED TO BE COMING FROM THE LEFT DRIVER'S SIDE TAIL LIGHT. WE CALLED 911. BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED THE WHOLE BACK HALF OF THE CAR WAS ON FIRE. THE FIRE WAS ROARING. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. AN ARSON INVESTIGATOR ROLLED OUT ARSON. IT WAS THE CRAZIEST THING I HAVE EVER WITNESSED AND IT WAS TERRIFYINGLY CLOSE TO OUR HOUSE. THE FIRE WAS ALREADY IN OUR YARD WHEN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED. I SHUTTER TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF MY SON HAD NOT WOOLEN UP WHEN HE HAD. THE FIRE WAS SO CLOSE TO THE GAS TANK, WE ARE LUCKY THERE WANT A FULL ON EXPLOSION. THE WEATHER WAS MILD AND DRY WHEN IT HAPPENED AND THERE WAS NO DEFERRED MAINTENANCE ON THE CAR. I SIMPLY CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE FIRE. MY BEST GUESS IS THAT SOMETHING SET OF THE CAR ALARM WHICH ON TURN SHORTED AND SPARKED THE FIRE IN THE FLASHING REAR LIGHTS. I HAVE A 2012 SORENTO THAT HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT A CONSTANT HEADACHE. JUST SOME MINOR ISSUES HAVE BEEN A HEADLIGHT THAT CONTINUOUSLY HAS TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF A SHORT THAT THEY SERVICE DEPARTMENT CAN'T GET TO THE BOTTOM OF. I MEDIUM ISSUE THAT IS BECOMING A HEALTH HAZARD IS THAT THE CAR IS LEAKING WATER INTO THE FLOORBOARD AND CAUSING MOLD TO GROW. AN EVEN BIGGER ISSUE IS THAT WHEN WITH SPEEDING UP FAST LIKE WHEN ENTERING AN INTERSTATE OR SLOWING DOWN THE VEHICLE WILL COMPLETELY STALL AND I HAVE TO MAKE MY WAY OFF THE ROAD TO RESTART THE VEHICLE.
