The contact called the Lien holder and was informed that the key was not connecting. The Lien holder replaced the key. The contact stated that the failure persisted, and the key fob failed to function as intended. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer swapped the key fobs with another set of key fobs to diagnose the failure. However, no cause for the failure was found. The contact was informed that two unknown fuse boxes needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, the LED lights under the door and dashboard failed to function as intended. In addition, an abnormal sound was coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and remained with the dealer for months. The contact was informed that the fuse box had been replaced. The vehicle failed to restart when the contact picked up the vehicle from the dealer. The vehicle was towed to the residence and had not been driven since. The tow truck driver tried to jumpstart the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to start. There was no power in the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 114,000. The VIN was not available.

Dear NHTSA, I am writing to report a serious safety issue with my Kia Sorento 2014. While driving on the interstate with my family, the vehicle suddenly began to slow down without warning. We were able to move to the shoulder, but this incident put our safety at significant risk as we were on a busy highway. We initially suspected brake failure, but after having the car towed home and inspected, we discovered that the motor/engine had completely failed. This failure also impacted the electrical system, leaving the car completely immobile. It has been confirmed by a mechanic that the engine is at fault. However, local dealers and mechanics were unable to inspect it further due to a lack of necessary equipment. As of now, the component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or any other authority. There were no warning lamps, messages, or symptoms prior to the failure, and the vehicle showed no signs of issues leading up to the incident. We purchased this car in 2023, only to find out later that Kia had issued a recall for this issue in 2021. This recall was never disclosed by the dealership, nor was it listed on the Carfax report. Due to the recall predating our purchase, Kia has refused to provide any assistance or compensation, leaving us with an inoperable vehicle and significant financial strain. As a low-income family on a fixed budget, this situation has been extremely challenging. We kindly request your assistance in investigating this matter and helping us find a resolution. I have a problem with the electrical, and I found that they already have a recall, but the Van Nuys dealer refused to fix it on the car.
Had the engine replaced before and it blew up again and the Kia dealer said the ignition wasn’t recalled after they said it was a fire hazzard

I was driving on the freeway in traffic with my 3 children returning home from a holiday weekend vacation, it was high 90's so the A/C was running and I had devices charging on the ports. We were 1.5 hrs into our drive and the vehicle failure came out of nowhere. Car has been in good condition and normal operation previously. Suddenly the entire dash flashed, flickered off then came back on with check engine light illuminated and battery symbol also on (very faintly), felt a minor kickback and car started slowing down until it stopped. I was able to get over and pull off to the shoulder to avoid incident but this could have easily turned into a very bad crash with a less experienced driver behind the wheel or if we had been going faster. Prior to this happening there was no warning of an issue with the vehicle - temperature check was in center between C and H, oil pressure was normal, no warning lights on dash, plenty of fuel and car was not due for an oil change for another 40 miles. Once I pulled over and stopped, turned off the car, it would not restart. Not enough power to turn over the engine. We had to call AAA and have the car towed home 35 miles. I had the vehicle towed to the Kia dealership and they are stating that it is not covered under a current recall or warranty extension and are seeking over $12,000 to replace the engine. I feel like my vehicle 2014 Kia Sorento SX V6 with 3.3L engine needs to be looked into for recall and warranty extension on the engine.
Every light is on in the dash compartment. Power steering goes in and out. Brake lights not working even after being replaced. Car stuck in park unable to put into reverse. ABS/ Airbag light showing- ABS Sensor replaced and still not working Recall in 2022. Kia repaired vehicle and now that same issues are occurring Kia refuses to even look at vehicle without payment of 180.00 to just LOOK!
I own a 2014 KIA Sorento 2.4L LX FWD. I have been experiencing a problem with my car for about two years. This usually occurs when driving up a hill and the transmission downshifts and I experience a jerk, either from the transmission or engine and the rpm drops to zero. The transmission will not shift from the last shift point. Most times it will be in the drive for final gear. You can increase the vehicle speed by pushing the accelerator all the way down. We were coming back on vacation two years ago and was driving in the left lane on an interstate. I experienced the symptoms and the rpm dropped to zero. No downshift or up shift. I managed ti find an opening in traffic to get over in the right hand lane and exit. Once I came to a stop, I tried to accelerate but engine struggled. I turned off the engine and was able to restart the engine and it operated properly. Had rom, transmission shifted properly. This was an unnerving situation. I felt very fortunate that I did not have to evade a dangerous situation on the interstate since the transmission would not shift and I could press the accelerator to the floor to gain a little extra speed. Doors cannot be locked and is very dangerous when driving with my family on the highway
Door Locks/Hatch Lock won’t unlock 95% off the time, using fob OR interior switch. Also won’t unlock automatically when vehicle is put into park. Mechanic looked it and after research, determined there’s a probable faulty/stuck Relay on the BCM. Not replaceable without removing the BCM and desoldering components or replacing the whole BCM. It’s unsafe as I’m unable to unlock the doors should I need to remove/evacuate someone or my pet, from the vehicle, in an emergency. Also unable to access back hatch area to retrieve anything for roadside concern (flares/cones, spare, tire iron, etc), leaving me potentially stranded on the dangerous roadside. I first noticed this concern about 2 months ago and there were no warning lights.
The HECU fuse in my Kia has the risk of starting an engine fire. It is currently part of a recall. I have checked this with your organization using my VIN number. I am unable to drive my vehicle due to the potential risk for me and passengers. This has made life extremely inconvenient. Even going to work has been difficult because I've had to rely on other modes of transportation. Kia has been unable to provide a replacement part, even though the recall was first announced over 6 months ago. I am unable to sell my vehicle because of this recall as well. We are expected to not use our vehicles but Kia is not providing a replacement part in any sort of a timely manner. They need to move their focus from the new vehicles to fixing these before someone is seriously injured.
We have not had an incident BUT we were notified of this recall in Nov of 2023 and now as of March 2024 there is still no fix. If my car could “combust” at any moment why is it taking so long to come up with a fix? Doesn’t seem very safe….. Again, we have had no accidents but this is the only place I could find to fill out a complaint.
The Kia one morning were I were at stop just turned off power completely disconnected/dead . I turn the key before I moved the stick to park and turn off the car than waited 3seconds and started the car. It turned on were I pulled to the side to park five foot to the left side and turn off the car to check what happ. It would’nt click or turn on dead car than help arrived and the battery I charged immediately underneath the lot started burning and smoke fire let dead that out.

A recalled was made on September 25th about Kia Sorento for potential fire hazard in driving or parking but up till date the recalled parts are not available at Kia dealership to fix the recall issues. Given it's fire risk, am pleading if you can follow up to make sure this problem is rectify before people's lives are affected for "A stitch in time serves nine"
I received a recall notice from Kia dated 11/14/2023. The notice said that the HECU hydraulic electronic control unit could short circuit and catch the car on fire whether driving or parked. They suggest parking away from anything that could catch fire. There is currently no remedy for this serious safety issue. It has been 3 months already and there is no time line for a remedy. They offer no options such as a loaner car to help mitigate the risk to personal safety while driving this car. I would like to have some interim solution until there can be a remedy of this serious safety risk. This is an unacceptable safety risk. Thank you for your time and attention. While driving at night, the instrument panel gauges and lights behind it faded away and all gauges went to 0, RPM, Gas, speedometer, temp, mileage all stopped working all at once. The headlights dimmed to almost nothing. After stopping, it was discovered that a rear sensor was basically melted off after being on fire from the inside. It put a hole right through the sensor and exposed the wire. It basically turned the sensor to ash and you can see the melted wires inside slightly poking out of the hole it melted. The radio and clock still work, so it didnt affect everything. The lights that come on when opening and closing the door were basically stuck on unless turned off manually when the car is off. (Turned off door light feature) Took me a few to figure that out. After checking fuses, the Module 3 was blown. Tried to replace the fuse but it keeps blowing because I cant currently do anything with the damaged sensor. A Kia repair guy wanted to change all the wiring, sensors, and instrument panel, costing thousands of dollars I don't have. After checking the Kia forums, this same exact issue has happened to multiple people with the 2014 Kia Sorento. If this has happened to multiple of the same vehicle, Kia should be responsible to fix it or replace the vehicle! Its dangerous! It was raining, but my car could have stayed on fire. I almost drove off the road when everything was shutting off and my headlights dimmed to nothing. The car still drives fine, so I got home, but it was hard to see and I had no idea of the speed of the vehicle. And the Kia guy said it could still catch fire again so I will have to fix it before driving it much more. I dont have the money for this or for a new car and my job is literally in my car! Check the Kia forums about the other issues and complaints, as again, this happened to multiple people and its all the same issue. Kia needs to fix this since it costs so much to fix and before someone burns up in a fire!
The component that malfunctioned was the dashboard. The dashboard began flashing and caused the wheels on the KIA Sorento to lock while on the highway. The car also had a burn smell. The car was turned off and then I was able to drive normally. A couple of weeks later the Malfunction Indicator Light has turned of intermittently. The electrical issues are causing the cars blind spot warning system to not work properly and as well as seats to stop moving in the car. I have reached out to KIA Customer care line so that they could tow the vehicle once the MIL came on and they said they I would have to pay out of pocket since the recall is in the "interim" phase. I called Southern KIA in Chesapeake, VA and they stated the car would have to be evaluated but that they do not have appointments any time soon.

Case [XXX] initiated day of engine burning/fire [XXX]. No response from Kia. Called to inquire on update January 16th, 2024. Spoke with Mary. Mary had no update. Asked to speak with her manager, She transferred me and call dropped. Unprofessional conduct with life-threatening Kia engine bomb sitting in my driveway. The engine light keeps coming on and off. I had a recall notice but an took the kia to kia dealership but they said they don't have the repair parts. Since recall was issued no repairs yet an it's posing a threat to me an my family using it. If I park the car without using it as kia instructed how I my going to go to job since that's the only car I have? Please can issue recall be fix immediately to avoid further harm to users? When should I take the kia to dealership for the recall to be fixed?
This recall poses a risk either driving or when vehicle is parked. I have contacted Kia several times to ask about the remedy part. As recent as today (12/14/23), they have no estimated time when the part will be available. I have not driven my vehicle since receiving the interim notice from Kia. I feel the manufacturer does not care about its the safety of its customers. I do not feel that I should put my family or me in a potentially unsafe vehicle and hope that nothing happens. We should not have to wait for who knows how long for a remedy. Something needs to be done to speed up this process and keep customers safe.

Well my boyfriend and I where getting the car straightened up swept out wiped down and cleaned up and drove it from one part of our yard to the other and we had to finish what we where doing before that so and hour or so later when my. Boy friend went to go finish the car he realized there was smoke coming from the driver's side and opened the front door and the whole front driver seat was on fire so we got it put out and then we realized we needed to get the car as far away from the house as we could as soon as we got the fire out so I found a lid to it on I had to push a release button under the shifter to move it outta park and stear it away from any other houses or objects so we did that and then the lights for the heated seats on the driver's side came on again without the key that I know of being in it or nothen and it just being on fire so we u plugged to battery and called kia and a town truck

In May of 2021 my 2014 Kia Sorrento had major engine problems. I brought it to Myrtle Beach Kia immediately and after 5 months of back and forth and paying for rental vehicles, I was told that they would not cover any repairs due to the Recall! I then paid $8, 663.63 for a repair that was never fully completed. Immediately after receiving vehicle back, check engine light was on. Numerous call to the dealership and I was told dont worry it just needs to cycle through. My vehicle has NEVER been properly serviced by them. I have kept up will all oil changes and maintenance in the meantime. I was told the check engine light codes were PO335 & PO 0018. I have had the Camshaft Bank Sensor and Crankshaft sensor replaced on [XXX] and this vehicle STILL has same check engine light on and is not receiving proper power while driving. I looked up recalls and found that currently recall 21 V331000 is in effect, this recall is a major safety issue especially being that I have 3 children that I drive around in and there may be a fire! I called Myrtle Beach Kia and the earliest they can get me in to service is a month from now, on [XXX]!! I feel that especially after everything I have been put through with this vehicle and the amount of money I have put out, that a loaner car would be offered to me to drive while waiting for them to fix the safety recall. The contact was able to safely pull over on the side of roadway. The contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, the vehicle restarted rough, but then started operating normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis, but no cause for the failure was found. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 41,000. The contact went to the dealer who was going to charge 1hr out of 3hrs, if they found anything wrong with the vehicle. They didn't find anything and released the vehicle to the contact stating they would not take off immobilizer, now and go do what u have to do. The contact stated because of this the vehicle was traded in.

Engine control module when it fails vehicle will lose power and drops engine compression causing a danger to other traffic. I was on I-10 on Sunday morning at 60 mi. when all of a sudden it slowed down to 20mi causing other drivers too maneuver around me to avoid from colliding into my SUV. Had engine control module checked out and was advised me to take in to dealer to have it reprogramed or replaced. Either will be an expense I just cant afford replacing it would cost me over 2000.00 and reprograming any where from 200 to 500. If Im not wrong a recall for software added to engine control module was done around 2020 didnt that up.
I never received any letter from KIA about this recall. I recently found out about this recall when I entered my vehicle VIN on the NHTSA website because the ABS and stability control lights have been on since last week. I called Kia about this (North East Kia at White Plains, NY) on April 24, 2023, and reported this. They said that their system was down or something like that and that they couldn't check for any recalls for my vehicle. I told them about the report from NHTSA, they said it didn't matter because they still need to see it on their system. I pushed for an appointment with service, they gave me one for Friday, April 28, 2023, at 8:30 am. I went there on that date. Oscar (the person in charge of service) told me when I arrived that their system still was with some kind of issue and that they couldn't check my car until they see the recall on their system. So they didn't check my car. I showed him a picture with the ABS and stability control light on in my car. He said they couldn't do anything about it. He just told me that they will call me or email me when their system is back to normal. I am worried that something bad can happen to my car and KIA is not doing anything to fix this recall. After my engine was replaced, due to recall, the airbag light has been on causing check engine light to stay on. In addition to the air bag light, shortly after tlairbag light issue, all other dashboards lights came on and remain on. All buttons and horn on steering wheel don't work. Since they replaced my engine, my AC has never worked again. When I got it back to Houston, it started smelling like was bad so I took to a mechanic. He said gas was spraying everywhere under the hood and I was lucky to be alive. Since the engine replacement it's been a disaster. All worked fine before engine went out and no lights were on.
Hi, I'm dealing with my Kia Sorento SX 2014, rpm and acceleration problems, for over two long years, sometimes shut off itself, some times codes shows up but no all the time, already changed spark plugs, High pressure fuel pump and the connector, two injectors, starter, MAP sensor, etc. My mechanic tell me today that I need to change the wiring harness, so everything is just guessing and spending crazy money, also the dealer don't know the exactly is the problem, already two years with this frustration and still don't know what to do, please I really need a very professional advice in this incredible situation, some of the codes that shows up, if I'm lucky are: P0087, P0506, P2096, P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306, P0133, P0137 and so... but right now all of these disappeared, I read in the NHTSA web site about the problems with engine and electric components reported with this car in this specific year and I'm really worry about my family and my safety while I'm driving this vehicle, please, please, please... I already went to many different mechanic experts (Including the Kia dealership) and still nobody knows what's producing this lack of acceleration in the engine at the time of starting and its subsequent shutdown. Constant issue with the 3 doors staying locked. Must manually push on the plastic mechanism to unlock the door from the inside. Using the inside door knob will not unlock the doors which is a major safety hazard. I have taken it to the dealer 3 times and they can not duplicate the issue. It started out happening intermittingly, but now it is constant. The only door that works is the driver side. I took it to a local repair shop and he said it "could" be every door needs a new actuator. Very expensive repair. This should be a recall item ASAP. Low quality product failure. There are no warning lights.
I started experiencing miscellaneous electrical issues and occasional poor acceleration. Engine/ABS/tire pressure/etc. warning lights would come and go indicating random problems; transmission solenoid was a common code but I did not initially have transmission problems. Radio/backup camera had intermittent problems with not powering on. Normal headlights stopped working and only high beams would function even after replacing bulbs and checking fuses. Problems got worse and the car would sometimes lurch strongly with a clunking sound and be stuck in 3rd gear "limp mode", but would randomly drive normally when restarted. I brought it to the dealership when I was experiencing sudden loss of acceleration and couldn't match the flow of traffic. The dealership said a new transmission was required. On replacing the transmission they found that there was a problem with the wiring harness and it would also need to be replaced, doubling the cost of an already expensive repair.

The door locks will stop operating when using the key FOB and lock/unlock switch on the driver and passenger doors, the only way to unlock them is manually. Window operating switch at all four doors stops working. The control buttons on the steering wheel are malfunctioning (volume up button decreases volume, volume down button activates voice control). Car stereo will call phone contacts via bluetooth without prompting. Had front and rear brakes replaced in April. There was shaking from the passenger side when brakes were depressed. Had brakes rechecked and it was determined the rotors need to be turned. Had the mechanic complete the repair. Now, in July, the brakes sound as though they need to be replaced (again) and the shaking has gotten worse. Will be taking to another mechanic. I have not had the electrical problems reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center yet. Vehicle and components have not been inspected. There have been no warning indications prior to or during electrical problems.

Safety is at risk because multiple fluctuating electrical issues could mean a fire risk. I have not had these problems reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center yet. Vehicle and components have not been inspected. There have been no warning indications prior to or during electrical problems.

On 2/15/22, I accelerated to pass another car while driving home from work. As soon as I accelerated, my car stopped running. I coasted to the next turnoff from a busy street (about 1 block) and stopped at the curb in a residential area. The control panel/dashboard was completely dark, then suddenly lit up again. I tried to start the car but couldn't because I was unable to depress the brake. I waited a few minutes and tried again and a small amount of smoke came out from under the hood. In a minute that went away. At this time, I was very near my house and walked home. When I got there I called the Kia dealership (local) and described what happened. They asked if there had been a 'check engine' or other warning message before this happened and I told them there had not been. I said I guess I would have to have the car towed in to them to see what was wrong. I was told they would call back. While waiting for someone to call back, I walked back to my car. (All of this took less than 10 - 12 minutes.) As I turned the corner I saw police cars and a firetruck where my car was parked. The fire had been put out and there was only a shell of the car left; the entire motor and everything inside was destroyed. Later, my insurance company declared it a total loss. A neighbor saw flames and had called the fire department. There was some damage to the neighbor's yard - grass and shrubbery. The police called a wrecking service to tow the car. It was later picked up by my insurance co. No one was injured, thankfully; but I can only imagine what would have happened if I had made it home and parked in my garage. The local Kia dealership never called back. I called a week or so after this happened and was told they would have someone call me and no one called (again).
I received notice mid August 2021 about recall and warranty repairs that needed to be made to my car. Brought it to the dealer on 8/30/21. On 8/31/21 I was given the car back and told, yes, it needed the repairs but I needed to wait for parts and they'd be in touch. I have heard nothing from KIA, despite complaining to them several times.
My 2014 Kia Sorento needs immediate attention to the following issues. The issues are associated with “open campaigns”. Yet, my specific Kia Sorento isn’t included. I have a bearing wear issue which has made the vehicle unsafe to operate. The car frequently overheats and has a major coolant leak. (17v22400). Also, the high pressure fuel pipe has appeared numerous times on my Mobius Kia Nav system. (18v907000). In addition, my vehicle now has many electronics which are inoperable. For instance, the back up camera, the power windows and steering wheel controls. This could be a result of a hydraulic leak near the electronic controls.(20V51900) There’s an issue with the powertrain. In addition, the right front axle is loose. As a result there’s a considerable loss of power to the wheels. (13V35600).

I have to replace the low beam and high beam bulbs several times a year. The low beams are SO dim, I can’t even tell if they are on- forcing me to drive with my bright lights on all the time. The bulbs blow all the time- I have driven without low beams and not none they were blown. The lights are now constantly flickering while driving. Very dangerous.
1. My headlights tends to keep going out, I’ve replaced them 3 times since getting the vehicle. The most recent change was a month ago. Also my car keeps making this weird humming/ purring sound which started 3months ago and is very unsettling. I had to get a new engine last February after my car cut off on me and the kids heading to my family out of town.
Car ran out of oil within 4,000 of oil change upon purchasing car. No indicator light came on ever for low or no oil. It cut off at 70 mph on highway. I got on shoulder, turned key off then restarted. Upon doing so every time the car gets to rpm level for gear shift it starts knocking. So if the cars engine is knocking the knock sensor should through service engine light which it did not. I have a) the dealer who rode with me to show him and it started to knock and shut off with him in the car with no check engine light on. Got back to their repair shop to which both mechanics witnessed the engine knocking with no check engine lights (MIL. Malfunction indicator light. Failure)
Pearl white paint is peeling from vehicle from above windshield and along frame.
Approximately 8 months ago noticed while driving that the headlights didn’t appear to be on while driving with normal low beam lights. High beams worked fine. Replaced both low beam light bulbs with Sylvania standard Kia recommended replacement. 1-2 months later after driving at night, lights still dim. Replaced with $90 Halogen set, still not illuminating road. Took to Kia dealership (where purchased) to have them check lights, said that entire headlight assembly for both lights need replacement for $2,489.00. Aftermarket priced at $335/ea!!! Service manager confirmed apparent problems with burned out headlight assemblies.
Recall notices have been sent to us regarding possible airbag deployment, electrical issues, and now HECU controls and the ABS system. Each time we get a notice, we contact the Kia dealerships in our area for repairs. Every time we have tried to bring in our vehicle for safety recall repairs, the dealership has made it impossible to do so. For example, when we called to make an appointment for one recall notice, we were told that no action was needed unless we heard a loud banging noise coming from the engine. We stated that we heard weird noises but not a loud banging. We were told that the dealership cannot do repairs unless we show evidence of the banging. Also, there have been electrical problems with the car since we bought it – the buttons malfunction, the airbag light is always on, etc. This was not regarded as evidence of need for repairs. For another recall notice, we were told that the repairs could not be completed because they didn't have the parts. We received the Safety Recall Number 21V331 on Friday July 17 and have tried repeatedly to contact Kia of Cerritos in order to make an appointment for repairs. The dealership does not answer their phones in the service department. At 2:30 July 19, I got through to someone in the service department. He said he would make an appointment to complete recall repairs but instead put us on hold and transferred us to a full voicemail box. We are very worried about the safety of our Kia Sorrento. This is our family car. Given the ongoing recalls and history of Kia failing to provide safety repairs, I think this may qualify for the Lemon Law. This recall notice indicates that an engine fire may occur. The airbag light is continuously on. I am concerned for the safety of my family. We do not feel safe. I have contacted KIA Consumer Assistance Center and opened a Case #14271977 but they have failed to reply.
Upon driving home from a family road trip, I was flagged down on the highway by a fellow driver saying my car was on fire from under the passenger backseat. There were no warning lights or alarms from the inside of the car, or on the dash. I pulled over and the fire engulfed the engine and soon the whole car. It burnt down to the frame, with absolutely nothing left inside but twisted metal. It was deemed a total loss. The fire inspector and police on the scene believe there was an issue with the electrical system that caused the fire. There is a report available with the Florida Highway Patrol. There are NO active recalls for the vehicle, but I was told by Kia there have been several fires in their 2014 models, including some when the vehicles weren't even on. The car was deemed a total loss and has been released to the insurance inspector and has over $14000 in damages to repair. It will not be repaired. My mother was in the front passenger seat, and my 6 year old son was in the passenger backseat, above where the fire began. Thankfully, we are all uninjured, but there is lasting mental trauma on all three of us.
After recall repairs their were no warning lights showing and diagnostics always came back clear. Car overheated in RED Hot with no engine alarms or anything. Mechanic stated it’s blown head gaskets

SERVICE ADVISOR SUBMITTED A GOODWILL CLAIM FOR THE ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, TIRE PRESSURE & E-BRAKE SENSORS AND KIA DENIED IT. I JUST PAID OFF MY CAR, WHICH IS IN GREAT CONDITION, AND NEVER HAD THESE ISSUES. KIA JUST KEEPS DOING OIL CHANGES AND TELLING ME TO RETURN EVERY 1K MILES. ALSO HAVING AC ISSUES, I RECENTLY FOUND OUT MY SUCTION HOSE WAS LEAKING AND HAD TO REPLACE IT, AFTER PAYING $160 FOR AC DIAGNOSIS. BROKE DOWN AND PAID $471 (ORIGINALLY $541 BEFORE DISCOUNT) FOR A PLASTIC HOSE AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD TAKE 2-3 DAYS TO GET HERE. ABOUT 27 DAYS LATER, THE PART FINALLY COMES IN, WHILE MY CAR HAPPENED TO BE AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR A WEEK UNEXPECTEDLY. AFTER GETTING 2 OIL CHANGES $140 IN ONE MONTH AND DRIVING FOR THE FIRST 1K MILES AFTER STARTING THE OIL TESTING, I WENT IN AT 8:30AM TO GET AN INSPECTION ON 3/15/21. I WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO KEEP MY CAR, AND HAD TO WOUND UP GETTING A RENTAL CAR. ANOTHER $239 I DON'T HAVE. I THEN HAD TO PAY FOR LABOR AND FREON $286. AFTER ALL THE WAITING AND TROUBLE I WENT THROUGH, SUFFERING WITH NO AC IN FL, AND SPENDING A TOTAL OF $1,296; THEY TELL ME AFTER INSTALLING THE PART MY AC COMPRESSOR IS BAD AND IT WOULD COST $905. SO I STILL DON'T HAVE AC! AT THIS POINT, THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, I WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED FOR RENTAL EXPENSES WHILE DOING THE OIL TESTING, FUTURE RENTAL/LOANER ACCOMMODATION BECAUSE I KNOW THEY WILL KEEP MY CAR AGAIN, AND ASSISTANCE WITH THE COMPRESSOR AND SENSORS. THE ONLY DOOR THAT WORKS WITH THE REMOTE OR ON THE INTERIOR SWITCHES IS THE DRIVER'S DOOR, ALL OTHERS MUST BE OPENED BY CLIMBING INTO THE CAR AND MANUALLY UNLOCKING. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP IT IS AN ISSUE WITH A BAD RELAY AND THE ENTIRE UNIT WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED, COSTING $1500+ TO REPAIR. IN RESEARCHING ONLINE I HAVE FOUND THIS IS A RECURRING ISSUE WITH KIA SORENTO'S MADE IN THE 2014 TIME PERIOD. I HAVE BEEN LOCKED OUT OF CAR DUE TO KEYFOB NOT WORKING. I HAVE HAD TROUBLE OOENING THE HATCH AND SUNROOF. PRESET COMFORT SETTINGS IE SEAT, MIRROR, DOOR AND WINDOW LOCKS HAVE REVERTED TO ONES PREVIOUS TO WHAT I PUT IN FOR MYSELF. THE GPS KEPT GETTING STUCK ON THE DEALERDSHIP ADDRESS. I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT DOWN A 2 LANE HIGHWAY AT APPROX. 55 MPH AND THE ENGINE ABRUPTLY SHUT OFF. HOWEVER, ALL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS STILL WORKED, INCLUDING THE A/C, LIGHTS, AND THE NAVIGATION SCREEN. I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TIME TO THINK ABOUT WHAT I NEEDED TO DO, BUT I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO SOMEONE'S DRIVEWAY, AS THERE WAS NO SHOULDER ON THE HIGHWAY THAT I COULD PULL OVER ONTO. AFTER PULLING OFF OF THE HIGHWAY, I PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND I TURNED IT OFF. I TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND EVERY LIGHT ON THE DASH WAS ILLUMINATED, BUT IT WOULD NOT START . NONE OF THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WORKED NOW AFTER SHUTTING THE CAR OFF. HEARD A CLICKING SOUND WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED. I CHECKED OIL ON DIP STICK AND OIL WAS FINE. THE VEHICLE HAD OVER A QUARTER TANK OF GAS. NO LIGHTS APPEARED ON DASH BEFORE IT ABRUPTLY DIED. CALLED TOW TRUCK TO COME GET IT AND TAKE IT TO REPAIR SHOP. MECHANIC SAYS IT IS SHOWING THE PROBLEM COULD BE IN THE MAIN BRAIN OF THE VEHICLE, AND I WILL HAVE TO HAVE IT TOWED TO NEAREST KIA DEALER WHICH IS 2 HOURS AWAY. I JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE APPROX. 3 MONTHS AGO WITH ROUGHLY 75K MILES ON IT. I AM THE SECOND OWNER WITH NO PRIOR ACCIDENTS. FURTHERMORE, DUE TO THIS ELECTRICAL/SAFETY ISSUE THE LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTON ON THE DOOR NO LONGER WORKS AND AS WELL DUE TO THE SAME ISSUE. NOR CAN I LOCK THE VEHICLE WITH THE KEY FOB. IN GOOGLING THIS PROBLEM, I HAVE FOUND OUT THOUSANDS OF OTHER KIA OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND THE ONLY REMEDY FROM KIA IS TO REPLACE A $1500 COMPUTER AS IN MANUFACTURING THEY SOLDERED A $3 RELAY SWITCH ONTO THE COMPUTER BOARD AND THEY WILL NOT /CANNOT REPLACE THE FAULTY RELAY THAT SEEMS TO BE CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. HENCE THIS IS THE REASON WHY I AM REACHING OUT TO THE NHTSA AS I FEEL THAT THIS IS A ELECTRICAL /SAFETY ISSUE AND THE ONLY WAY TO LOCK MY VEHICLE SECURELY IS TO WALK AROUND THE VEHICLE AND LOCK EACH DOOR INDIVIDUALLY. I CHECKED OIL LEVEL, WHICH WAS FINE. NO OBVIOUS OVER HEATING, SMOKE, OR LEAKS. I DECIDED TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON TO SEE IF THE LIGHTS WERE STILL THERE BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T START. IT WAS COMPLETELY DEAD ASIDE FROM ONE TINY CRANK NOISE THEN NOTHING. LUCKILY SOMEONE STOPPED AND WE GOT THE CAR STARTED BY JUMPING IT. WENT TO THE LOCAL PARTS STORE AND MY BATTERY, STARTER, AND ALTERNATOR ALL CHECKED OUT OK. NO FURTHER LIGHTS OR ISSUES THE REST OF THE DAY. THAT MEANS 5 QUARTS OF OIL BURNED UP IN 2,890 MILES OR MOST LIKELY WAY SOONER BECAUSE AFTER 1.5 MONTHS OF THE OIL CHANGE I STARTED EXPERIENCED STALLING, KNOCKING, STUTTERING IN THE ENGINE, SO THAT MUST HAVE BEEN AT ONLY 1000-1500 MILES. I CAN TURN IT ON AND SET SPEED, BUT IN LESS THAN A MILE IT DISENGAGES. I HAVE FOUND IF I TURN OFF THE ECO IT WORKS AS IT SHOULD. ISSUE 4 I FOUND TODAY. AFTER GETTING A MESSAGE FROM A RANDOM STRANGER THROUGH MY ADVERTISED BUSINESS ON THE BACK WINDOW I WAS INFORMED THAT I HAVE NO BRAKE LIGHTS EXCEPT FOR THE ONE ON TOP (THIRD). I JUST REPLACED THEM IN JULY AFTER A RANDOM STRANGER TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE OUT. WHEN I GOT THE MESSAGE (AFTER MAKING MY 60 MILE COMMUTE TO WORK) I GRABBED A COWORKER TO COME OUT AND TROUBLESHOOT WITH ME. WE CHECKED FUSES AND THEY ARE FINE. THIRD LIGHT WORKS, TAIL LIGHTS WORK, TURN SIGNALS AND BACKUP LIGHTS WORK. WE TOOK APART THE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY AND PULLED THE BULBS TO CHECK THEM AND THE BULBS ARE STILL INTACT (FILAMENT STILL COMPLETELY INTACT) BUT THE BULBS ARE CHARRED BLACK AND THE HARNESS SOCKET APPEARS TO HAVE GOTTEN EXTREMELY HOT. ALSO THE BOTTOM OF THE BULB IS GLOSSY LIKE IT MELTED.

THIS PROBLEM WAS PROGRESSIVE, AT FIRST JUST OCCASIONALLY WOULD NOT WORK, OVER TIME IT HAS HAPPENED MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY AND NOW ITS ALWAYS LIKE THIS, FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS LOCKS HAVE NOT WORKED AT ALL. I HAVE TAKEN IT INTO KIA AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING WITHOUT CHARGING ME $150-$300 JUST TO SEE IF THEY LOCKS REALLY AREN'T WORKING, I WILL NOT PAY TO PROVE THIS TO THEM, AND THEY REFUSE TO EVEN WATCH ME DO IT UNLESS I PAY THEM. BURGLAR ALARM ALSO STOPPED WORKING WHEN THIS FIRST STARTED.

THEY FOUND A WIRE SHORTED TO GROUND ON THE TRAILER HITCH WIRING WHICH CAME WITH VEHICLE. THEY CUT THE WIRES TO TRAILER HARNESS AND THIS ISSUE ALSO DAMAGED MY REMOTE STARTER. THEY REPLACED THE BLOWN FUSE WITH A LARGER FUSE AND SAID IT WAS ALL SET. HOWEVER IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON 09/29/17. THIS TIME WHEN I PARKED MY CAR AND TRIED TO START AGAIN, IT WOULDN'T COME OUT OF PARK SO I HAD IT TOWED TO DEALER. IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY NOW BUT THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO FIX THIS ISSUE WHICH IS OVER $3,000 TO FIX. THERE IS A FEW FEET OF BURNED AND MELTED WIRING THAT I HAVE PICTURES OF, UNSURE OF EXACT WIRING, BUT IT CONNECTED TO THE WIRING TRAILER HITCH HARNESS. IT WAS APPARENTLY CLOSE TO CATCHING ON FIRE. SINCE I OWNED THE VEHICLE OTHER ODD ELECTRICAL ISSUES HAVE HAPPENED, INCLUDING BLOWN HEADLIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS ON ABOUT 8 OCCASIONS. I ONLY FOUND ONE RECALL RELATING TO THE TRAILER HITCH WIRING HARNESS #16V862000 HOWEVER IT DOES NOT INCLUDE MY YEAR VEHICLE. IN MY OPINION, THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE CONDITION AND SAFETY CONCERN THAT KIA NEEDS TO RESEARCH FURTHER FOR POSSIBLE OTHER RECALLS.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED NO SOLUTION OTHER THAN THE DEALER REPLACING THE PART. IN ADDITION, THE DEALER REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH PER AN UNKNOWN RECALL. THE CONTACT HAD TWO KEYS AND THE DEALER LATER PROVIDED ONE KEY, STATING THAT THE CONTACT WOULD NEED TO PAY FOR THE SECOND KEY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

SINCE 60,000 MILES I HAVE HAD A SHORT IN THE ELECRICAL SYSTEM OF MY VEHICLE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO 2 DIFFERENT PLACES TO HAVE IT INVESTIGATED AND NEITHER MECHANIC COULD TRACE THE CAUSE OF THE SHORT. I HAVE HAD BLOWN FUSES, NON-WORKING HEADLAMPS, FRONT AND BACK. NO ONE COULD FIND THE SHORT. I KEEP SPARE FUSES WITH ME AT ALL TIMES NOW, AND 100% OF THE TIME, THE RIGHT REAR BRAKE LIGHT IS NOT OPERATIONAL. I CONTACTED KIA CAR PROS IN CARSON, CALIFORNIA AND THEY TOLD ME THAT ANY WARRANTY COVERAGE HAD EXPIRED AT 60,000 MILES. DEFECTIVE AUTO LOCKS MY RIGHT REAR PASSENGER DOOR WILL NO LONGER OPEN AND WILL NO LONGER PERMIT INGRESS OR EGRESS INTO THE BACK SEAT. THE KEY FOB WILL TURN THE LOCKS TO THE OPEN POSITION BUT YOU STILL CANNOT OPEN THE DOOR UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. PERIODICALLY, THE DOOR LOCKS WILL GO CRAZY AND MAKE UP AND DOWN MOVEMENTS WHILE THE CAR IS BEING DRIVEN. OCCASIONALLY, THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER DOOR WILL LOCK AND NOT OPEN, BUT THEN IT OPENS. NOW THE RIGHT REAR PASSENGER DOOR IS PERMANENTLY STUCK IN THE LOCKED POSITION. KIA CAR PROS ALWAYS FINDS SOME EXCUSE FOR NOT REPAIRING THE DOOR UNDER WARRANTY. I BELIEVE IT IS DEFECTIVE AND THEY SHOULD BEAR THE EXPENSES.

I WAS ADVISE I NEED TO BUY A CABIN AIR FILTER OF $60.00. IT IS VIRTUALLY UNREADABLE DURING THE DAYTIME AND CONSTITUTES A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN THE DRIVER HAS TO TAKE HIS EYES OFF THE ROAD FOR SEVERAL SECONDS TO SEE HOW FAST HE IS GOING. THIS IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS ON A METROPOLITAN FREEWAY. THE LOCAL KIA DEALER (MESA, AZ) SAID THEY HADN'T HEARD OF THE PROBLEM AND, IN ANY EVENT, COULD NOT HELP AND REFERRED ME TO CORPORATE KIA. CORPORATE KIA REFERRED ME BACK TO THE LOCAL DEALER. I UNDERSTAND FROM INTERNET FORUMS DISCUSSING THIS ISSUE THAT, FIRST, I AM ONE OF MANY COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS SPEEDO-UNREADABLE ISSUE AND, SECOND, KIA CORPORATE IS INDEED AWARE OF THE PROBLEM (SEE CASE # [XXX], JUNE 10, 2013), BUT OFFERS NO RELIEF, OTHER THAN "THEY ARE WORKING ON IT." I STARTED GETTING A WARNING FROM THE UVO SYSTEM IN NOVEMBER 2014 THAT I HAD A TRANSMISSION ISSUE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND EVEN THOUGH A TECHNICIAN SAW THE WARNING ON THE SCREEN AND THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON THEY SAID THE GAS CAP MUST HAVE BEEN ON WRONG CAUSING THE WARNING AND THE TRANSMISSION TO STALL AND BE SLUGGISH, ALONG WITH CAUSING THE BLUETOOTH NOT TO RESPOND, AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS NOT TO RELEASE,BACKUP CAMERA BEEPS WHEN THERE IS NOTHING BEHIND ME, THE AUTOMATIC WINDOW ON THE DRIVERS SIDE TO NOT ROLL UP. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS GOING OUT AND WAS REPAIRED AT THE NICHOLASVILLE STORE, HOWEVER IT HAS NOT TAKEN CARE OF THE ISSUES, THE DOORS WILL NOT UNLOCK AND THE UVO SYSTEM CONTINUES TO SEND EMAILS TO THE DEALER THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MINOR ANKLE INJURIES, WHICH DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS A MANUFACTURED ELECTRICAL CORD THAT WAS CONNECTED TO THE ACCELERATOR, WHICH MAY HAVE CAUSED THE FAILURE.
