2017 KIA SORENTO Electrical System Problems

There’s a big loud buzzing noise every time you open the tailgate. Sometimes it doesn’t lock, you have to try several times press the button it to unlock so that way you could lock it the tailgate down. If you do not make sure the tailgate is locked the tailgate would stay open and fly open while driving.

On October 26, 2025, Sunday, I was cleaning my windows. I discovered both rear windows would not roll up or down. I took it to Valley KIA on October 27, and it was diagnosed that I needed to replace both rear windows with new window regulator. It will be installed on October 29. I told my tech advisor about the window regulator recall on the 2017 KIA Optima and Sportage. He told me there was no recalls on the 2017 Sorento. I had to pay out of pocket to have my vehicle repaired. How could my rear window regulator fail within 4 years? It seems really perplexing for both rear windows to fail at the same time. How can I recover the cost of repairs - because 2017 KIA Optima and Sportage had the same problems. On October 22, 2025, Wednesday, I took my car to KIA Riverside regarding a voluntary recall for a multi-function switch. The rear window regulator behind the front passenger side failed on May 24, 2021. I took my 2017 KIA Sorento to Valley KIA, Fontana. The mechanic made the diagnose and replaced with new window regulator and it was installed on May 25, 2021. It poses a safety hazard if baby, children or adults are in the back seat, and windows does not roll up or down unexpectedly. It is a safety hazard when I cannot secure my vehicle. It is a safety hazard if I had things in the back seat, and it would fly out the window. It is a safety hazard when unable to open or close the window when it is hot, cold, or raining. There was no warning prior to failure. I just heard a grinding like sound, or like sound of plastic breaking when I pushed the button on driver seat to lower or try to roll the window back up.

The contact stated that the front passenger’s seat was moldy, and the sunroof had seized. Additionally, the sunroof headliner fell while changing lanes. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed; however, the result was not provided. The windshield washer, the sunroof assembly, the reservoir pump, and the front axle seal assembly were replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and informed the contact that the issue would be escalated to the corporate level and the dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 61,000.

Headlights turn off at night when set in the auto position and turn on when the car is off

I am unsure what component system failed or malfunctioned. The car is in the toe place. It's a total loss burned from front to back my safety was put at risk by no indication of any lights coming on my dashboard. By the time I stopped the whole front into my car was on fire. It burned from from 2 back within 8 minutes. It has not been inspected by insurance. The police were there when the fire was put out along with the fire department. There were no warning lights or lamps of any indication of a problem. I was driving down the road and I seemed small but I had no lights on my dashboard. Indicating anything was wrong? So I drove as soon as I started to slow down at the stoplight. Flames started coming out of the driver's side of the hook. But I turned the corner and stopped the car and the whole front end.By the time I stopped was on fire.I contacted the fire department and within 8 minutes.The car was a total loss

This is the third time I’m having to take my SUV to the Kia dealership because my check engine light begins flashing and then my car has a hard time accelerating when it gets to certain speeds. It shakes but will not go over 68 mph although it is covered under a warranty, it is very frustrating. Having to keep take my car to get fixed. There should be a more permanent solution.

There has been no involvement of the police or insurance representatives regarding this incident. 5.Warning Lamps or Symptoms: There were no specific warning lamps or error messages that appeared before the failure. The primary symptoms noted were poor acceleration and unusual engine noise, which first appeared shortly before the issue was identified as an oil leak.

Car shut off and the radio kept going on and off red light on dash board and steering was hard

Coolant system not functioning properly replace thermostat and worked a day then back to overheating. Engine overheating with new oil and filter also shakes badly Car does not shut of when ignition is pressed the first time have start the car then shut it off again

Shifter isn't releasing from park. They state the Body Control Module (BCM) I been reading on this and it goes out with higher mileage Kia Sorento SUV. This is a safety hazard.

I was driving down an interstate when my check engine light came on and began to flash. The car then began to shake violently. I was able to pull it into a parking lot successfully. There was a smell & it felt hot. During my routine oil changes, the shop had notified me a couple of times that I had low oil. No low oil lights or any other warnings ever came on my dashboard to say I was having issues until that day. I had it towed to a local dealership on 09/29/2024z Local Kia dealership confirmed on 10/04/2024 that the whole engine needs replaced.

When the headlights are in auto mode, they turn off and on sporadically. There are times that the car is not even on and the light turn on and I have to manually turn the headlights off. This has been ongoing for months. I've reported the issue to before to the dealership but they could not find any malfunction. This morning, I was driving with my lights on (not auto mode), and when I would use the turn signal (left and right), the lights would turn completely off and come back on. This new problem has been occurring off and on for about a week.

I was driving down the highway at night and out of nowhere my head lights turn off. Leaving me and my daughter driving blind going 60 mph. Prior to that on the same night, I picked her up from work I was turning out of the parking lot where she works and the same thing happened but very quickly corrected itself. The area was lit up so it wasn't as noticeable. This is a very dangerous problem.

The vehicle just lost power at 75mph on [XXX] heading home to Princeton, ME, started vibrating really bad misfiring then we pulled over the Kia Sorento stalled. Then would not start back up. It’s been using over a quart a week since we got it from the dealership in Bangor, Maine. We got it towed home our mechanic looked at it and noticed oil on the plugs and said we probably need a new engine. Low beam light keep coming off and on so thinking it’s something electrical. Time to time the transmission take a min to shift the engine rpms stay up n takes a few extra seconds to shift. I was driving down a country road, and suddenly the engine stopped working, all systems shut off, and dash started flashing. Luckily, there was no one around me, and I was able to coast to a stop. However, it would have been terrible if this had happened on a busy road. Nothing worked including brakes. Had the car towed to the dealership, since we were just over 100K miles they would do nothing, and said the only thing we could do was put a new engine in for 20K. We’re going to have to sell the car for a loss of 5K, as we can not justify putting a new engine in an unreliable car.

I live in VA, bought my Sorento in 2018. Every winter when the temps drop below freezing my car will intermittently not start. This issue only happens below freezing and it is not every time the temps drop below freezing. Once the sun comes up and the day warms up a bit the car almost always will start. I have taken it to the Kia dealership multiple times over the years and of course it always starts right up, no problem, even in the single digits. I have taken it to a couple of other local repair shops as well to no avail. So far this winter I have had it at the dealership 3 times and finally on the third trip they figured out the issue. The factory installed remote start was pulling too much voltage, even while the car was off, that the brand new battery couldn't start the car. They removed the remote start (told me I could buy another and have it installed for $800) and the car has started every single time. This has left me and my family stranded previously so wanted to help others figure this out so it doesn't take them 6 years and stranded like it did us.

My Kia Sorento uses roughly 2-4 quarts of oil every week or 2. The smell of oil is so strong in the car it’s almost unbearable. Just this week the the alert about a door being open is going off and the locks are malfunctioning. It locks and unlocks at random and it keeps sayings a door is open when it isn’t. The cruise control also stopped working.

I just purchased this vehicle on Saturday.And now my engine light is on.It is blinking.I did my research after getting the car and the code p1326 came up at autozone.after that it showed that code with recalls for 2011 to 2017.

Cars burns a qt of oil every 200 miles oil smells just like gas

Oil consumption. My car is always empty after 3000 miles. I am always having to put oil in my car. Now having engine issues… No warning lights came on to let me know of issues or low oil.

Headlights turned off on 3 occasions in the last 2 weeks. first i was driving on an unlit section of a residential thoroughfare, dark night and suddenly, while both hands on steering wheel, not having had any interaction with dashboard/radio controls, smooth section of roads (no obvious bumps) the lights turned off. I immediately fiddled with the steering column mounted light control switch, which did not give me an immediate relief, flipped it to highbeams and they worked. 2nd and 3rd time (yesterday 9/8/23) while on semi lit highway they again shocked me by turning off, i again toggled the light switch, this time highbeam flip did not work, i was doing 65 on a 70 and having lights turn off, with no reason, scary. 80,000 miles. i have had the light switch in automode.

several occasions my headlights have completely gone out. I have to toggle the blinker button to get the lights to come back on. This happened 5 times at 5 am in the morning. I have taken my vehicle into the shop several times. It is in the shop again today. They are saying it is switch that causes headlights to go out. This is dangerous to others on the road and also myself. I have read online there has been over 1300 complaints but have not seen a recall come out. Please investigate why lights are going out sporadically. I had to slam on my breaks because I cannot see in the dark. Thank God other vehicle were not on the road. Please investigate this matter as I am not the only customer that has complained.

UNKNOWN 2017 KIA Sorento v6 XL July 29, 2023 @3am - Parking lights were found to be on. Upon checking, the vehicle was locked. The FOB was used to unlock the doors and I turned the light control switch from Auto to OFF. This turned off all lights and I locked all doors using the FOB. What triggered this event? Concern for battery draining will be an eventual result if this is not investigated?

Regularly the head light’s randomly turn off as well as the tail lights and break lights. This is absolutely terrifying! It has been happening for over a year and know one can fix it. This is a huge problem across 2017 & 2018 Sorrentos. There are multiple forms for it as well as mechanic discussion groups trying to solve the problem. This NEEDS to be a recall and fixed immediately before some gets hurt or worse!

First and foremost I am the 2 owner of this vehicle with only 38,000 miles, my 82 mother gave me the car with 22,000 miles on it b/c she barely drives anymore. The car is in excellent condition until I started noticing that the steering wheel was sticky and it is difficult to control the vehicle, the oil pressure and the traction control light would come on and off intermittently. In addition, while in park or driving the speedometer would display dashes and then display inaccurate speeds going up and down until reaching 95 miles on the display then, would go to dashes, and then everything would return to normal. I took the vehicle in the last months of 2022 to the dealership which they failed to acknowledge and display lights and any problems with the steering wheel. I took the vehicle home and the oil pressure light started displaying continuously along with all the other problems (I did not take it back to the dealership b/c they already had charged me a substantial amount of money for nothing). I took the vehicle to have the oil checked, oil levels were fine nothing could not figure out the leak location. Fast forward, the vehicle is sitting at an independent reputable mechanic who was able to find that the "Oil pressure sending unit" is responsible for the leak and the oil pressure light display. The Kia dealership neglects to honor any warranty, I am left paying thousands for this repair.

When I am driving the lights will shut off even when they are on auto. I have to pull over and turn the knob back and forth till they come back on. Sometimes they turn off when I use my blinker. The lights will also stay turned on even when the car is turned off and doors are locked.

On several occasions while driving down the highway at night going approximately 60-65 mph headlights, tail lights go completely out. With my whole family in the car but Thank God we have never been in an accident as a result of this. No recall information has been received even though I see plenty of complaints. The last 2 times I’ve gotten an oil change within 1500 miles my oil light comes on and when I check, there is low oil or no oil.

Lights will just turn off while driving and and the blinkers will not work. The horn will not work either. It happens all the time it doesn’t matter if it’s day time or night time.

Headlights shout off at night while vehicle is in motion. I have reported this issue to the manufacturer/dealership and was advised that vehicle needed to be brought in when issue is happening. Dealership is closed at night when issue occurs. No warning messages when lights shut off and first occurred 8/2021.

First issue: Computer fails to throw codes for issues like low oil or engine overheating because of a cracked radiator that was bone dry when the mechanic looked at it. At the time of the incident with the cracked radiator, mechanic checked fuses and system but could not find any issues. However, they agreed that check engine light should have come on. But it did not. Second issue: Oil some how magically disappears out of the engine, and because of this, I'm now stuck, with a worthless car that I'm going to have to abandon about 900 miles from my home because it'll cost too much to replace an engine. Even the mechanic that looked at it said it wasn't worth spending the money on replacing the engine. Think about the level of absurdity because that's a big amount of labor for them and they recommended against spending money on the Sorento.. I'm now car less and fucked because of Kia's shitty defects.. I'm sorry for the profanity but I'm lost.. I'm lost.

As you are aware this of the "Kia" Challenge running rampant in the US. I am one of these owners of these vehicles. I recently was made aware that my neighbor had a car identical to mine and his was stolen out of his driveway last Sunday morning. I contacted Kia of North America and they stated "We do not have a workaround for this at this time" They will not supply us with Steering Wheel Locks or Immobilizers. The NHTSA needs to seriously investigate this to the high extent as this is causing anguish for people like myself who are fearful of our automobiles that we paid an exuberant amount of money for to be stolen from us. Its also very fearful that the car insurance companies are threatening to non-renew owners of these motor vehicles is VERY VERY concerning. Please address this please give the people like myself some guidance on how to proceed. If my insurance company decides to non renew my automobile insurance I am in deep trouble as I use this car to commute everyday to and from work. Please assist

I was driving at approximately 35mph when my vehicle loss power and the steering wheel locked and gas pedal did not work almost causing me to be rear ended. I put my hazard lights on and started my vehicle back up and tried to continue driving but my vehicle delayed in acceleration and has now continued to delay ever since that incident. I have parked my vehicle and have not moved it due to the danger.

The steering wheel seems to get stuck with prolonged straightforward driving such as highway trips. When attempting to make slight correction in steering the steering wheel seems to stick requiring increased force to move the steering wheel which results in over correction. Power steering malfunction, it is available for inspection upon request. Potential steering problem resulting in crash. No. Problem described to dealer service center, no problems found upon routine service screening. No.

The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sorento. The contact stated upon activating the high beam headlights, both the internal and external lights failed to operate as needed. The contact stated that the lights had to be manually turned off before returning to normal operation. My car has repeatedly completely run out of oil after going 2500 of 5000 miles and the oil leaked into different parts of the car. The car is not drivable and shakes and the engine rattles. None of the dashboard indicators illuminated to indicate an issue, until after the car shut off as I placed it in drive and was trying to accelerate, on 9/24/22. I have only owned the car since 10/2021. This car’s repairs should be covered under NHTSA Recall #20V750.

Intermittently, while driving, day or night, the headlights will turn on or off for about 30 seconds despite the called for sensor setting. For example, if it is dark outside, the sensors will trigger to turn on the headlight and running lights and vise a versa, when the sensors detect sufficient light, the running and headlights will turn off. I have only noticed this happens when the headlights are in the "auto" mode position as I don't keep them any other way. I have only noticed it a couple times when the headlights and/or running lights will turn on during the day (bright enough not to trigger the sensor). HOWEVER, it has happened A LOT at night where the lights will turn OFF WHILE DRIVING which causes panic because I'm driving a death machine blindly (nothing bright to mistakenly trigger sensor/no overhead lighting or approaching vehicles, i.e. pitch black). I have not been able to recreate it on demand and it has an unknown, unbiased pattern. I would say that it occurs weekly, up to 2 times per week. I feel that it has happened more often a few seconds after straightening from a turn using the turning signal (but I always use my turning signal). The direction of turn doesn't factor, it'll do it turning left or right. There has been a couple times where I almost have driven off the road and/or hit unseen objects because of having no lights. This has happened enough at night when the lights unwantedly turn off, that I have learned to quickly switch the lights from "auto" to "on" and the lights react/will work and stay on when switched back to "auto". Mechanic unable to recreate issue. No warning lights, messages, or notice of problematic signals (other than the standard "lights on" notification. The attached picture was taken at 4:06 pm on July 29, 2022. It was a hot, sunny day and I was doing 53 on the highway (straight/no curves). My running lights turned on long enough for me to pull out my phone and take a picture.

While I was driving on the interstate my head lights and dashboard lights went out. My lights were in auto mode. The next morning my park lights were on with the light switch in auto mode.

There is an electrical problem with the Kia Sorento. I had the battery and Alternator replaced when the vehicle shut down and locked up on me. This is the second time in a few months it just shut down while I was driving.

While in Auto Lights mode, the headlights will randomly turn off while driving. Also, while in auto mode, while the car is parked the lights will randomly turn on- causing the battery to die within a few days of the car not being used. It appears to be the Auto lights mode that causes the problem. This is extremely dangerous to this car and other cars on the road, for obvious reasons. Issue has been noted to Kia dealer 2-3 times over the last 2 years. They are not able to replicate the issue. No errors in the computer.

Headlights go off without warning while in auto driving at night . Has occurred 2 in the month of August 2022. Can be turned back on by twisting the control nob to on. Poses a dangerous situation on the dark county roads that we drive if not quick enough to manually turn back on.

The "auto" headlight function keeps malfunctioning. It will randomly shut off the headlights and not turn back on. Numerous forums have reported the issue. This is extremely dangerous when driving at night.

My headlights are randomly turning on and off while I drive. Also when the car is parked and off for hours, the headlights turn on by themselves.

When driving down the the interstate at night, my headlights just turn off while driving. They are on Auto. This has happened multiple times while driving. I have not took it to be looked at yet. There is no warning light or anything else that lets you know that there is a malfunction. The lights just go off. For them to come back on, I have to manually turn it off and back on again, and they will come back on.

My car started running badly with a knocking noise at the start. The knocking noise got worse, I so pulled over and checked the oil and there was virtually no oil in the engine. I filled it with oil and the knocking continued and got worse as I drove it to the dealer for service. The engine failed before I could make it to the dealer. It now needs a new engine. The Car was serviced regularly. NO LOW OIL ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON TO NOTIFY ME OF LOW OIL. NO LEAK WAS DETECTED.

When “auto” for headlights the lights won’t turn on at night time unless I manually switch it or the lifts will be on and then go off on their own during the night.

Passenger seat belt not on warning no longer works when car is running or not running. Passenger can forget to put on seatbelt and no reminder chime. Problem is continuous. No warning lamps. Has been inspected but not repaired. Headlights come on and go off intermittently. Headlights come on when vehicle is off and not running Draining the battery down. Hard to duplicate. Has not been duplicated or repaired as it's intermittent without warning.

Car lights come on when the car is not in use. Car sporadically does not start. New battery installed in February and car wont start in May.

4/18/22 While making a right turn in a residential neighborhood, the car abruptly stopped and engine shut down. The stop was so abrupt that it threw my body forward and now have shoulder and neck pains. No warning lights were illuminated prior to this incident, however, after the engine shut down, the airbag light was lit. I drove it home slowly, called the Kia dealership in Manteca, CA. Making arrangements to have the vehicle towed and have it examined. Two days prior, the ! light came on. I noticed that the passenger side headlight was out. That same evening when I started the vehicle up, the ! light was gone and the headlight worked. I addition, when having the light control kept on Auto, the headlights remain on all the time. If this had happened in traffic or on the freeway, it may have had a different outcome.

Additionally, the contact noticed that the exterior of the driver's side mirror housing had melted. The contact stated that shortly after she could no longer lock or unlock the doors of the vehicle using the driver's side power door lock switch and the key fob. The contact was also unable to roll down the windows using the window switches. The contact stated that the instrument cluster had also failed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that an electrical fire had occurred in the driver's side mirror housing. The independent mechanic disconnected the electrical wiring system of the driver's side mirror housing. The contact stated that she could no longer adjust the driver's side mirror as needed and it could no longer turn in when the vehicle was parked. The contact stated that she was still experiencing electrical failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.

The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering assist and seized without warning. The contact was able to safely guide the vehicle off the roadway. The contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that there was a mechanical defect in the steering assembly and had to be addressed by a dealer. The contact drove the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the battery and a faulty ball joint replaced. The dealer stated that the failure was not due to the steering. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

Left low beam bulb went out. The right side was rendered inoperable. Had no operational low beam, just parking and high beam lights. Safety issue, generated a dangerous and lot of irate drivers in on coming vehicle’s, with inability to lower the high beams. Once the left low beam bulb was replaced right side became operable full low beam was operating. Don’t know if this a fluke with this vehicle or engineering problem. Created a high stress situation!

I WAS LEAVING MY COUSINS APARTMENT COMPLEX WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED. I ATTEMPTED TO TRY TO START THE VEHICLE AGAIN BUT IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. ALL THE LIGHTS IN THE VEHICLE WERE ON AND THE RADIO WAS STILL PLAYING SO IT DID NOT APPEAR TO BE THE BATTERY. I ATTEMPTED TO TRY AND START THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND NOTICED GRAY SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I THEN BEGAN TO SMELL SOMETHING BURNING, SO I EXITED THE VEHICLE AND POPPED THE HOOD. I THEN NOTICED A FIRE COMING FROM THE ENGINE BEHIND THE AIR FILTER COMPONET. ABOUT 10 SECONDS LATER I HEARD A POP AND TOOK OFF RUNNING TO A SAFER LOCATION AND CALLED 911. THE FIRE THEN BEGAN TO GROW BIGGER AND THE WHOLE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WAS IN FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED AND PUT THE FIRE OUT. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS THAT CAME ON. IF I HAD NOT EXITED THE VEHICLE WHEN I DID I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEEN SEVERLY BURNT AS THE WHOLE FRONT WINDSHIELD SHATTERED AND THE DASH WAS MELTED AND FRONT SEATS WERE BURNT.

While driving with the headlights in the "Auto" position, when a turn blinker is used the headlights will randomly turn off for about 10-15 seconds. Not much of an issue during the daytime but certainly a major safety concern at night. This problem can be replicated during the daytime by watch the dash lights switch from "Auto" to "Off" on the driver's dash. Moving the switch from the Auto to On has no effect on the lights. This problem occurs about 30% of the time when using the turn signal.

I have complained since 2020 about the noise in the rear area, this started when the right rear light was rewired. I can't pinpoint what triggers the noise to start, sometimes it happens when the SUV is off ,and idling and driving but not consistently. I left with an unresolved issue. I went to the dealership today( 05/14/2021) @ 11:00 @ Greenway Kia West 3407 West Colonial Drive Orlando Florida 32808, to complain that my oil is running completely out of the engine and I was told all the fees I will have to pay in order to check this problem, I didn't say I had a leak or noise but disappearing. This is a manufacturers issues , and the warranty should cover. I told them my windshield is bubbling at the top and maybe separating , and still again all I heard was fees , I purchased a Kia Sorrento based on the good warranty and the place I felt very safe. I am very very disappointed in the dealership and my safety is at risk and I hope nothing happens before something happens.

When pressing on the brake pedal, the transmission will not shift out of park. The only way to shift out of park is to depress the transmission shift override. A new brake light switch did not correct the issue. To date, the vehicle has not been repaired, inspected by dealer, manufacturer, police or insurance representative. No warning lamps, message or other symptoms of the problem occurred prior to the failure.

WHEN THE CAR'S HEADLIGHT SWITCH IS SET TO 'AUTO', THE HEAD AND TAILLIGHTS WILL TURN ON AND OFF AT RANDOM, REGARDLESS OF LIGHTING CONDITIONS. THE LIGHTS RANDOMLY TURN ON WHILE THE CAR IS OFF AND STATIONARY AND HAS RESULTED IN A DRAINED BATTERY ON THREE OCCASIONS. . THE LIGHTS TURN ON AND THEN BACK OFF WHILE IN MOTION DURING DAYTIME DRIVING (AS INDICATED BY THE DASHBOARD INDICATOR). WHEN ON AND WHILE IN MOTION AT NIGHT, THE LIGHTS TURN OFF, RESULTING IN ZERO VISIBILITY WHILE DRIVING.

WE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD TO STOP AND TURN IT OFF AND BACK ON, AS IT MAY BE IN LIMP MODE. AFTER WE DID THAT WE WERE HEADED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHEN IT COMPLETELY LOST ALL POWER, THEN IT SOUNDED LIKE GRINDED UP METAL AND SPIT IT OUT. THEN IT SHUT OFF AND WOULD NOT CRANK. WE WERE RIGHT ON THE ROAD, IN A CURVE THAT WAS UP HILL. WHERE TRAFFIC WAS VERY FLYING BOTH DIRECTIONS. IT WAS TERRIFYING WAITING FOR THE TOW TRUCK THE DEALERSHIP SENT. THEY SENT IT TO THEIR MECHANIC IN WILKESBORO, WHO DETERMINED IT THREW A ROD THREW THE MOTOR. NOW IT'S BEING TOWED TO A KIA DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO PUT A NEW MOTOR IN IT FOR $300BFROM

I WAS DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE AT THE TIME, AND IT WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO CROSS TWO HIGHWAY LANES AT 20 MPH TRYING TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO BURNS AUTO SHOP. THEY PULLED UP CODE P1326 AND SAID THIS WAS A KNOWN KIA ISSUE AND A KIA DEALER SHOULD FIX IT FOR FREE. MY CAR HAS 35,000 MILES AND IS STILL UNDER THE 10 YEAR/100,000 MILES KIA WARRANTY. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO FRED BEANS KIA DEALER IN LANGHORNE, PA, WHO REFUSED TO CHECK IT FOR 10 DAYS. KIA REFUSED TO PAY FOR A RENTAL CAR (EVEN RETROACTIVELY) UNTIL THE MECHANIC CHECKED IT - A HUGE INCONVENIENCE TO MY FAMILY OF 6 WHO HAD TO USE 1 CAR FOR 2 WEEKS. WHEN FRED BEANS FINALLY CHECKED THE CAR, THEY CLAIMED TO NOT BE ABLE TO SEE THE CODE. THEY CONCEDED THAT WHAT HAPPENED IS A KNOWN KIA ISSUE AND COULD HAPPEN AGAIN AT ANY TIME. IT'S TERRIFYING TO KNOW MY CAR COULD AT ANY TIME SLOW DOWN TO 20 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. DESPITE KIA'S CLAIMS THAT THE CAR COULD DRIVE UP TO 55 MPH WITH THE CODE ON, MY SPEED PLUMMETED TO 20 MPH WITHIN SECONDS AND WOULD NOT GO UP DESPITE PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. KIA SAID MY CAR'S VIN WAS NOT AMONG THOSE AFFECTED BY THE RECALL. YET, SINCE THE P1326 ISSUE DID HAPPEN TO MY CAR, MY VIN SHOULD BE INCLUDED. DESPITE KNOWING OF THE ISSUE, KIA AND ITS DEALERS REFUSE TO TAKE MY FAMILY'S SAFETY SERIOUSLY. THEY BOTH SUGGEST I KEEP DRIVING 'UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN'. AFTER THAT MY WIFE SAID THAT SHE FELT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVING LIKE IT SHOULD. SHE SAID THAT YOU BASICALLY HAD TO FLOOR IT FOR IT TO GET UP TO CRUISING SPEED. APPROXIMATELY 6 WEEKS LATER MY WIFE STARTED TO HAVE MORE PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. SHE STATED THAT THE ACCELERATION PROBLEM WAS VERY NOTICEABLE AND WAS SCARIED THAT IT WAS GOING TO STALL OUT AGAIN BEFORE SHE COULD GET HOME THAT DAY. SHE WAS ABLE TO GET HOME SAFE THAT TIME. LATER ON THAT DAY SHE HAD TO GO BACK OUT AND SHE SAID THAT IT STARTED UP FINE AND DROVE FINE UNTIL WITH OUT WARNING IT JUST SHUT OFF WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE OF BUSINESS INTERSECTION. THE CAR STARTED UP JUST FINE ONCE IT SHUT OFF AND MY WIFE DROVE IT TO A NEARBY PARKING LOT WHERE IT SAT UNTIL IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP HAS HAD THE VEHICLE ABOUT 3 WEEKS NOW AND ARE UNABLE REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THEY HAVE DONE EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO SEE IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. SINCE THEY CANNOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THERE IS NO CODES THEN THEY THINK THAT THE VEHICLE IS FINE. SIN E THE CAR CUT OFF ON MY WIFE TWICE IN SIX WEEKS SHE IS SCARED TO DRIVE THE CAR IN FEAR THAT IT WILL SHUT OFF ON HER AGAIN. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY KIA. THE DEALERSHIP DENIED MY CLAIM WITH THE 100K MILE WARRANTY BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE PROOF THAT I DID ALL 9 OIL CHANGES. THEY PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT I NEED A NEW ENGINE BUT THAT THEY ARE ON BACKORDER NATIONWIDE AND WHO KNOWS WHAT DATE TBD THAT WILL BECOME AVAILABLE. THE REPAIR SHOP I TOOK IT TO PIEDOMONT IN HAYMARKET, VA SAYS THEY THINK IT IS SOMETHING LIKE A YEAR BEFORE IT MIGHT BE AVAILABLE. SO IN THE MEAN TIME NO LOANER WAS EVER OFFERED TO ME AND NO I HAVE A UNUSABLE VEHICLE THAT I HAVE SUBMITTED A CLAIM FOR WITH GEICO. I DO NOT HAVE FUNDING FOR A NEW ENGINE AND THE FACT THAT THE KIA MOTOR COMPANY HAS NO ENGINE TO EVEN SUPPLY TO ME IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE PRACTICE FOR A BUSINESS. ALSO 1 YEAR AGO MY BATTERY JUST DIED ACCORDING TO THE KIA DEALER DUE TO A PARASITIC DRAIN. THAT SEEMS SUSPICIOUS TO ME SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY A YEAR OLD AND HAD TO BE REPLACED WITH ONE I BOUGHT AT WALMART. ALSO, THE FUSE FOR THE DRIVER SEAT CONTINUOUSLY BLOWS.

ALL INCIDENTS WERE ON CITY STREETS, WHILE GOING STRAIGHT AT SPEEDS 40 MPH OR MORE. THE LAST TIME, WAS WHILE I WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN GETTING ON THE FREEWAY. AFTER EACH OCCURRENCE, I WOULD SAFELY PULL OFF THE ROAD, TURN THE VEHICLE OFF, WAIT A COUPLE SECONDS AND TURN THE CAR BACK ON. THE CAR WOULD RESUME BACK TO NORMAL. I HAVE NOTICED THAT AFTER THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, WHEN I DO THE FIRST ATTEMPT TO TURN THE CAR ON, IT DOES NOT TURN OVER.
