My name is [XXX] I am a [XXX] widow, and I am also a 100% Disabled (Combat Wounded, Purple Heart receipient) Marine Corps veteran. I purchased my 2017 Kia Sorento brand new from Lion County Kia in State College Pennsylvania. After a couple of years, I noticed while driving on several random trips, that my Kia's steering felt like it had stopped working, and I had to fight to keep my Kia centered in my lane. I took it to Lion County Kia, and complained about this issue, while my Kia was still under warranty. The Lion Country Kia Service Tech. claimed that they could not find the issue with my steering (Becasue there was no "Alert Light" in my Kia's computer. A few years later corporate Kia acknowledged there is an issue with the power steering assist motor and sent a document stating that this part will be warranty past the original warranty to 15 years or 150,000 miles. I let my grandson use my vehicle and the same continual steering failure happened to him. I then took my Kia to Team Kia in, Johnstown Pa, and paid to have a diagnostic test completed Team Kia's test showed in a writen document that my Sorento has a Faulty "Motor Driven Power Steering" unit. I sent the Team Kia's Test Results to Kia Corp. power steering assist motor, so Kia corporate is aware that my Sorento defenitly does have a "M.D.P.S." problem. I contacted Kia corporation and they informed me that because there is no indicator light or computer code present on my Kia, they will not warrant the power steering assist motor. In my opinion Kia Corp. is willingly placing an unsafe vehicle on the roadway. This Faulty "Motor Assist Power Steeing" not only puts the operator of my vehicle at risk, but this issue also puts all vehicles close to me on the roadway at risk. This issue has me so concerned that I am forced to ride my trike instead of driving my Kia. Driving my Kia, with this Steering Problem, is definately a Severe Safety Issue. I was driving our 2017 Kia Sorento 2.4 liter, on I-94 in Detroit, MI when suddenly, the vehicle would not go over 50 mph when the engine suddenly lost power on Friday 11/28/2025 ..We towed the vehicle to the Auto Repair Shop a few days later. On Tuesday 12/9/2025 the Auto Repair shop contacted us and said that their was plenty of oil in the vehicle but Cylinder 3 misfired and there is a loss of engine compression. Auto shop says cylinder 3 failed and now only 3 cylinders are now working on the 2017 Kia Sorento now mileage is now 94, 971 miles. I have not taken it to the dealer yet because even though there was a class action lawsuit, the Auto Repair shop has informed us, as well as other information online, that the dealer will sometimes try to avoid replacing the engine. I did contact the dealer on 12/10/2025 and informed that we do have maintenance records and have the vehicle towed there this weekend, however, my initial conversation with the Service rep did not sound promising to date.

The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while turning the steering wheel in either direction, the steering wheel was sticking and notchy while attempting to return the steering wheel to center. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who diagnosed that the power steering motor was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 21,083.

Sticking steering wheel at speeds around 60 mph on slight turns been happening over a year took it to dealer said they couldn’t get it to do it.

Apr 21, 2025

The steering is sticky. When on the highway you have to keep correcting the steering because the wheel seems to be sticking then moving. As a result you can not just go straight down the road but have to keep putting in steering corrections!!!!! This needs to be addressed! This is an ongoing problem , not just on one date.

Mar 12, 2025

Car shut off and the radio kept going on and off red light on dash board and steering was hard

Mar 11, 2025

Steering sticks and makes it difficult to stay straight. Have to use extreme effort to keep it in the lane. Complained to Kia in 2022 and dealer saw problem with the rack mounted motor driven power assembly but that it was within their specs. They did a software update on the eps and said system now operating as designed. The miles were 35,774 at that time. Started having same issues in february of 2025. Dealer is saying it needs a new steering column, but now out of warranty. Miles were 59,436.

Mar 10, 2025

Steering is sticky when making SLIGHT correction. Happens every time I drive. The speed does not matter. Happens at all speeds.

Feb 26, 2025

We Reported in February of 2022 To Kia of Port Charlotte in Florida that our steering wheel was sticking so bad we had to use extraordinary effort to keep the car going straight. They told us they were unable to replicate what we experienced. Starting in February of 2025 we started to experience the same thing. We brought it [XXX] to Kia of Sebring Florida. They diagnosed that there is a sticking of the steering wheel but it is not covered because the car is 7 years old and has 59000 miles under warranty. When I checked on line there are tons of customers complaining of this same problem. Please look into this issue as it could cause accidents eventually. Feb 13, 2025

Steering MDPS Unit malfunction causing loss of power assisted steering. Visible steering light on dash. Vehicle was inspected at a Kia dealer confirming issue with MDPS unit. Kia shop stated that this was an issue with the 2016-2020 Kia Sorento models and most fell under the recall umbrella but this specific 2017 Kia Sorento is not on the VIN checked list for a steering recall for the MDPS Unit failure. Kia stated that the repair would cost out of pocket at $3500 for the same issue others with the same problem Kia is replacing under recall warranty. The MDPS Unit failed while driving causing issues with being able to steer.

Feb 7, 2025

The steering seems to stick, hard to explain but when you are driving on the highway feels like the steering wheel is going to stop working.

Dec 28, 2024

Steering is sticky while driving at highway speeds. Starts mild and increases stickiness over time. Has gotten worse over the years.

Nov 7, 2024

While driving a red wheel icon with exclamation mark appeared on the dash. This caused for my car steering wheel to become increasingly hard to maneuver and drive while on the highway driving about 60mph.

Sep 10, 2024

Car was burning oil rapidly. While driving heard loud noises, shaking, smoke started coming through vents and car turned off. Kia is stating that there are many recalls on vehicle, but the only recall I received is for a tow hitch. I don't have a tow hitch. Very dangerous if I was going somewhere with a higher speed limit. Kia dealership is saying corporation won't offer extended warranty due to recalls not being completed. Again the only recall is for a tow hitch. Kia dealership has quoted me over $10000 to fix a vehicle that is suffering from known manufacturer failures.

Aug 24, 2024

The power steering system has randomly gone out. This occurs at random times when I’m driving. Once I was backing out of somewhere and the power steering light came in, while I was in the middle of the street blocking both sides. I had to turn my car off and restart it. I am put at risk because of my inability to turn at random times. This puts others at risk too when I can’t turn/ move my steering wheel properly. I’ve been desperately trying to get my car looked at but I keep getting the run around that they can’t check what the codes are on the car because the lights on the dash turn on and off. There were no warning signs. The car is managed well and kept up with. This started randomly when driving and turning into a parking lot, causing me to almost hit cars and large rocks. The car has been fine until now.

Aug 21, 2024

Steering motor and controller failed at 53000 km . The steering light and traction control came on and no power assist to the steering in any way . It requires considerable force to turn the steering wheel. Took it to a certified KIA dealer and was told the steering motor and controller needs to be replaced. KIA CANADA refused to fix this issue insisting that the warranty is for 5years or 100,000 km.(bought brand new ,single owner) I do understand the business part and I will take my business elsewhere in the future. Consumers should be aware that such a critical part of their vehicle can fail with no warnings whatsoever. Imagine driving on the highway and your steering fails....

The steering wheel/ column gets stuck like sticky as other call it, other owners have the problem my car is new 2017 Kia sorento just with 69k miles on it and turning the wheel gets hard where the point I put force I over turn and my car turns to much close to hitting other cars I don’t drive it because the wheel/column sticks to much and it gets worse and worse when I drive it Time to time it needs to become a recall because other sorento owners are having the problem

The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the steering column was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 132,000.

May 13, 2024

The steering wheel sticks and has to be forced out of the stuck position. Not a safe situation if it gets worse. If it sticks for good I could be driving into the ditch or into the path of an oncoming car. I hear the steering column has to be replaced. It has been doing his for the last year.

Apr 11, 2024

Steering wheel has a sticky feeling, especially on the highway traveling at faster speeds. The wheel gets stuck in certain positions and then over exerts when you turn the wheel back. Overall, the steering wheel feels unstable.

Mar 19, 2024

The steering has at times become sticky for lack of s better term. Turning the wheel, even slightly, feels hard to turn and then will release and cause slight over-correcting. It feels like something is preventing the steering column from turning and then it will let go and turn freely. When this happens it will happen repeatedly on the same outing and is not just a one time occurrence.

Mar 14, 2024

When driving my Kia the steering wheel is sticking. At first it was just ever now and then. But now it it’s happening everyday. There is a recall for 2018 models doing the same thing. I pretty sure this is the same part and should be covered under the recall.

Jan 30, 2024

For the last few weeksI have been experiencing problems with the steering wheel feeling like it's sticking while driving. It might happen on a straight roadway, but its mostly noticeable on curves, like rounabouts. I can hold the steering wheel around a slight curve and if I need to move it to the right slightly to keep in line with the curve then it jerks a little to get out of that position. I'll take it to the dealer for other recalls and I hope they'll take care of this as well...

Jan 27, 2024

For months now I have been experiencing problems with the steering wheel feeling like it's sticking while driving. It can happen on a straight roadway, but mostly notice it on curves, especially a long stretch of road. I can hold the steering wheel around a slight curve and if I need to move it to the right slightly to keep in line with the curve then it jerks a little to get out of that position. It happens every time whether moving the steering wheel left or right. Last time it happened I said I wasn't going to drive the car anymore because it's unsafe. It got stuck around a curve and took more tug on the steering wheel to get it to move the tires in the direction I needed. There's so many other complaints online about this very problem from other Kia owners around the 2017 models. I've taken it to the dealer twice for this and they never experienced the problem because they just drove around the lot and did a rapid back and forth on the steering wheel. You have to be driving it on a longer stretch of road when you can get it up to faster speeds where it's more noticeable.

Dec 29, 2023

continuous issues with "sticky" or "notchy" steering. Steering is not smooth and almost caused several accidents.

Nov 17, 2023

Steering wheel sticking when driving. Kia replaced the steering column assy-steering and the gear and linkage assy. Steering is some better but still the sticking

Jun 18, 2023

I have a 2017 Kia Sorento in which the steering has been feeling sticky. It feels like the steering has been getting stuck and hard to turn at times. I’m scared that one day it will get stuck and I can’t undue the stickiness at all. It’s very scary and unsafe to drive. I had contacted a Kia dealership to get this problem looked at because I feel this vehicle is dangerous and I have a young child that I drive back and forth in this vehicle. I even contacted Kia consumer services on plenty of occasions and they were no help.

Jun 15, 2023

I was driving on a highway where maximum speed limit was 65miles. Suddenly my car stalled and restarted again and post that i had a warning for Check AEB, auto hold was disabled and Traction control was enabled. For a brief moment, i lost steering which may be a result of the stall but then i regained steering. This has happened 4 times in the last 6 months. I stopped the car by the road, turned off the engine and restarted the car. The dashboard still showed the same warnings. I again turned off the car, opened my drivers side door and closed it and then restarted the car. The warning signs went off and then there were no issues post that.

May 18, 2023

My Kia I purchased had 39,000 miles and it has a steering problem which I wasn’t 100% aware of. Today it is at Kia where they stated they’re gonna have to replace the steering column did not give me a price but this is a safety issue, and I want to recall done on this issue For the steering column. How can you help me?

Apr 29, 2023

Kia Sorento are being stolen like crazy. I took my Sorento to Russ Darrow Wauwatosa to get the anti-theft software updated. When I got there, the supervisor told me that 80% of cars on which the update was applied ended up having the steering wheel have all buttons on it not working. This scared me and I ended up not getting the software for my Sorento. Why would Kia fix one problem and create 10 other ones? Or did the car dealer's supervisor lie to me? Thanks, Ahmed.

I was driving at approximately 35mph when my vehicle loss power and the steering wheel locked and gas pedal did not work almost causing me to be rear ended. I put my hazard lights on and started my vehicle back up and tried to continue driving but my vehicle delayed in acceleration and has now continued to delay ever since that incident. I have parked my vehicle and have not moved it due to the danger.

Jan 26, 2023

While driving at highway speeds, steering is notchy and sticky. Steering is hard to control and it is difficult to drive straight. Overcorrection is a result and the car is unsafe to drive. The dealership drove the car and felt the same steering issue. They updated the software, but that didn't help. In fact, the sticky, notchy steering seems worse. The steering problem has been ongoing for about 5 years, and there has never been any warnings or messages from the car's electronics.

Jan 24, 2023

This is a continuing problem. The steering “Notches” when driving down straight and curves as well. I’ve had the vehicle into dealerships 4 times since 2019. The vehicles warning never came on. ECU’s been updated with the revisions of group CHA, Number 084., and the problem goes away for awhile, however, it’s back again in January 2023. There was extension for the MDPS issued on January 7, 2022 to 15yrs/150,000 miles, but it says the the warning has to come on. This is not right, I believe now something needs to be replaced. My Sorento now has over 70,000 miles. Do we with same problem have to hit something and possibly kill an innocent person or ourselves.

Jan 15, 2023

The steering wheel seems to get stuck with prolonged straightforward driving such as highway trips. When attempting to make slight correction in steering the steering wheel seems to stick requiring increased force to move the steering wheel which results in over correction. Power steering malfunction, it is available for inspection upon request. Potential steering problem resulting in crash. No. Problem described to dealer service center, no problems found upon routine service screening. No.

Jan 9, 2023

The steering is "Sticky" or feels like it gets stuck in a "Notch" while driving down the road. It is most noticeable at highway speeds and happens every trip to town. When the steering sticks is causes an overcorrection. This overcorrection is getting worse with time. I have yet to take it to the shop for inspection. No warning lamps or codes are currently present.

Dec 19, 2022

Steering has a sticky or notchy feel. When going around bends/curves the vehicle proceeds to turn without the need of hands on the wheel. Steering feels like you have to break it out of place, which leads to oversteering out of lane. The issue is constant . Vehicle is not only putting myself at risk, but other drivers if not able to turn or avoid traffic. Problem has been reproduced and confirmed by dealer. Dealer advised to replace entire steering column which is about $2,600. There are no warning lights but issue was noticed after first buying the vehicle. Vehicle has no history of accidents nor indications of damage.

Dec 5, 2022

Steering is sticky, it holds then releases.

Aug 29, 2022

I was picking up my daughter from school. I drove there a considerable distance. I parked because I got there early. Once it was time to get my daughter I put my car in reverse and it made a loud clanking sound and the wheel became hard to maneuver. As soon as it made the sound a steering wheel with an exclamation point red light came on. I looked it up on Google and found that there was a technical bulletin issued for my year car regarding the MDPS/EPS system extending the warranty to 15 years on 01/05/2022-01/07/2022. When I took my vehicle to Kia of Hollywood service center in Hollywood FL, they were able to reproduce the problem. However after looking at the bulletin and parts covered under that particular bulletin, they told me that the issue that is causing the noise was not covered by that technical bulletin for the MDPS warning light and the actual cause of the noise in my vehicle was my car needed a new rack and pinion. Once they told me the repair would not be covered by the extended warranty I asked for the price. Kia is selling the rack and pinion for $3280. The same part after market is $339. I of course took my vehicle to a different mechanic and did not pay the total cost of parts and labor that they quoted me which was $4460. I believe Kia is aware that this particular part is defective and are taking advantage of some sort of loop hole. Maybe not enough consumers knowing they can file complaints. There's a reason why they are selling this particular part 10 times its after market value. The part was also readily available and wasn't back ordered which means they have plenty in stock probably due to demand. I was not able to control my steering wheel which is a danger while driving. My car has had previous structural damage but nothing that affected the power steering in my vehicle at any time. This problem just came out of nowhere.

Jun 10, 2022

When steering the vehicle at speeds between 40 and 70 mph the steering will feel sticky or get a notch feel to it. When making minor adjustments to the wheel to keep the vehicle going straight there will be resistance, then when enough force has been applied it will move. This sudden movement of the wheel causes the vehicle to over steer on the direction the steering wheel was being moved. This can result in an overcompensation the other direction. Although these are small movements the driving experience is unsettling for the driver, and for others around. The dealership is aware of the issue, confirmed it, and applied a software fix to the vehicle per KIA TSB 060 Rev 5. This has made the issue intermittent at best, instead of correcting it. Upon my second visit the dealership they reset the vehicle computer and I believe applied the software again. Upon testing they could not recreate the issue. On the third visit they were not able to recreate the issue yet again. After every visit I could feel the vehicle exhibiting the problem on the drive home - it's is a 2.5 hour drive to the dealership. The vehicle currently has less than 20K and this issue has been occurring since about 8K miles on the odometer. There has been no indicators or trouble codes, only the driving experience. The first occurrence was during the winter and more pronounced. The sticky feeling and the way that affected my steering on icy roads was somewhat scary. KIA's TSB states if the vehicle fails the recommended course is replacement of steering components. After multiple visits I have found a serious reluctance for them to do anything more than software fixes. I simply want a safe vehicle to transport my loved ones in.

Apr 28, 2022

I reported earlier that my steering became "sticky" at highway speeds. Now, the problem is occurring at lower speeds. Today it began at 35 mph. Was just driving down the country road from my house and the steering started to stick.

Apr 24, 2022

At highway speeds, the steering appears to "stick." Think of it as as a flat spot on a wheel. That's what it feels like. The higher the speed, the more it sticks. Using cruise control makes it worse. This sticking causes overcorrection. Had a bit of an issue going through a construction zone over the Nueces River in Corpus Christi, TX. I have researched this issue, and you do have complaints. I am scheduling service for the car next week. I do have a notice from Kia on steering issues. A type of extended warranty for steering. The "sticky steering" issue has no warning lights/lamps.

Apr 23, 2022

The steering wheel sticks, which causes over correction.

Apr 9, 2022

While driving the steering wheel gets stuck in the direction you turned it. This is especially true when steering in a curve. I have to constantly make minor adjustments while negotiating a curve. I have to constantly pull cw and ccw because it sticks after each adjustment. I ask the dealer to look at it during an oil change and the attendant told me they didn't have enough service people because of COVID. I called several months later and the service person said it has motorized steering assist and that is the way it is. If you are going around a curve close to the center line it would be very easy for the power assist steering to make you cross into oncoming traffic I noticed it after buying the car and kept putting off having it looked at. I've had heart surgery and covid came along with lock-downs and I've just neglected to have the problem resolved. I've searched for similar reports and problems and there are many more owners with the exact same problem. KIA should have a recall to remedy the situation before someone is killed.

Apr 3, 2022

I purchased a new 2017 Kia Sorento LX AWD and have been having an issue with the steering for a few years. When attempting to keep the car traveling straight at highway speeds, there is a need to force the wheel. This results in overcompensation in steering and can be dangerous. I have seen this issue described as Notchy and Sticky steering. Initially in an effort to correct the problem I had the tires rotated and an alignment done however this did not make a difference. The issue seems to only occur if driving 50 MPH or higher and traveling in a straight direction.

Mar 22, 2022

The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel seized upon depression of the accelerator pedal without warning. The contact stated that the failure did not occur while turning the steering wheel but rather while driving straight. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer on three separate occasions and was recently informed that the failure was normal vehicle operation. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 59,000. The VIN was not available.

Mileage: 59,000

Mar 7, 2022

The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost power steering assist intermittently. The vehicle was still drivable during the failure. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer however, the mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but offered no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

Mileage: 50,000

Feb 28, 2022

The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering assist and seized without warning. The contact was able to safely guide the vehicle off the roadway. The contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that there was a mechanical defect in the steering assembly and had to be addressed by a dealer. The contact drove the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the battery and a faulty ball joint replaced. The dealer stated that the failure was not due to the steering. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

Mileage: 110,000

The electronic steering "sticks" and makes it necessary to force the steering wheel to make driving corrections. This in turns causes an oversteer situation and a safety issue. The vehicle is difficult to keep lane control. New tires, alignment, and a TSB software upgrade by Kia service did nothing to correct the problem. Kia determined (15 Feb 2022) the vehicle needed the electronic steering column replaced. The Kia service rep stated my factory and extented warranty will not cover the cost of repairs. The problem has been intermittent for over 2 years and getting worse. My research indicates many owners having the same issue with this vehicle.

Feb 12, 2022

While driving at highway speeds steering is sticky or notching when trying to direct car in a curve, lane change in a right or left direction. Takes excessive pressure to get steering to move in any direction. Brought to dealer while under warranty, dealer said they could not replicate problem. safety issue causes you to over correct to get steering wheel to move.

The steering seems to stick or click at various speeds.

I am the owner of the 2017 KIA Sorento, which I purchased new. When I first contacted the NHTSA, I stated within the last few months that after driving the vehicle the highway or expressway for an extended period (approximately 60 mins to 90 mins), the steering wheel would bind when turning on the road to change lanes or maintain the vehicle on the road. This binding occurs in the turning position without warning. I'm concerned the steering will lock, which will result in a bad accident. I initially took the car to the dealership (Gunther KIA), where I purchased the vehicle. The service adviser told him because the steering wheel has electronic components, the problem could occur when the battery needed replacement. I agreed to have the battery replaced; however, the binding of the steering wheel re-occurred. After the second failure, I returned the car to the dealership's service dept. At the advice of their technicians, they performed a software update on the vehicle. Unfortunately, a couple of days after the second repair, the same failure recurred for the third time. Once again, I took the car back to the dealership, where a case was filed and opened; however, the dealership could not diagnose or duplicate the failure after a few days in their possession. At one point, the master adviser (Randy Rosario) at the dealership told me that he had the same experience with his own Sorrento. And he learned to deal with it and said I should learn to deal with it because the dealership would not give me a new vehicle. I replied by stating that I didn't want a new car; I wanted my car fixed because I feared for my safety and the safety of my family and grandchildren. The adviser also mentioned that a recall should happen, but the manufacturer has never issued one. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. As a result, the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 43,490 Fortunately, during the week of January 10th, 2022, I once again called the dealers

Dec 10, 2021

While driving 40mph+, steering appears to "stick" and driver has to make a more forceful jerk with the steering wheel to "unstick" the steering. Driver ends up over compensating for stuck steering and is jerking the car on the road. Steering appears to not "stick" as much when going under 40mph. Steering sticks more often going around bends or small turns on the open road.

power steering sticks when driving causing you to constantly over correct to keep the car going in a straight line. This leads to erratic driving as you are weaving back and forth on the road to keep the car going straight. There are many complaints on the internet of this problem with most dealers saying they don't see a problem and others replacing the steering column. There should be a recall to fix this problem while under warranty, any problem with a cars steering down a road should be fixed as this is a safety issue.

This is an ongoing condition of the vehicle that my mechanics were unable to address. The steering wheel sticks in the straight ahead position and requires unexpected force to make small corrections to the car's direction. This mostly happens at highway speeds or at lower speeds on long straightaways. The mechanics informed me this was not an uncommon condition and suggested that I report it to Kia and to the NHTSA.

Steering is sticky and has play during highway speeds. Driver must constantly adjust to keep vehicle aligned. Power steering after sticking point over corrects vehicle. This is very dangerous.

ON SOME OCCASIONS THE STEERING WAS NOT SMOOTH, AS IF IT STUCK JUST A LITTLE AND I WOULD HAVE TO LIGHTLY JERK IT. THIS WAS ALWAYS HIGHWAY. THEN ABOUT A WEEK AGO MY OIL LIGHT FLICKERED AND I MEAN ONLY A SECOND AND THEN AGAIN ON THE WAY HOME. WHEN I CHECKED MY OIL, THERE WASN'T A DROP ON THE DIPSTICK AND IT LOOKED TO HAVE A LITTLE BURNT OIL ON VERY TIP. IT WAS ALSO VERY HARD TO GET THE OIL CAP ON TO ADD OIL. I HAD TO ADD 3 QUARTS! WHY DID MY OIL LIGHT COME ON BEFORE THIS AND WHY DID IT NOT STAY ON? MY CAR IS A 2017 KIA SORENTO AND HAS ONLY HAD MAINTENANCE AT THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS BOUGHT. I WAS SHOCKED WHEN I LOOKED ONLINE AND SAW THIS WAS AN ISSUE FOR YEARS. WHY ISNT SOMEONE MAKING KIA ACCOUNTABLE? I CANT AFFORD TO PAY UPFRONT FOR REPAIRS AND WHEN COURTS DECIDE YEARS LATER MAYBE WE'LL GET REIMBURSED, THEY DON'T WAIT ON THEIR PAYMENTS FOR THE VEHICLES.

ENGINE BURNS UP OIL VERY QUICKLY WAY BEFORE 3,000 MILES AND THERE ARE NO ALERTS THAT THE OIL IS LOW. STEERING GETS "STUCK" AT TIMES FOR BRIEF AMOUNTS OF TIME AND NEEDS TO BE READJUSTED IN THE ROAD. THIS HAPPENS ON STRAIGHT HIGHWAYS AND IN CURVE. WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID FUNCTION DOES NOT WORK.

WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION A RED WARNING LIGHT APPEARS IN THE SHAPE OF A STEERING WHEEL AND THE STEERING BECOMES VERY STIFF. THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY AFTER PUTTING IT TO GEAR AND DRIVING FORWARD OR BACKING OUT AND IT HAS ALSO HAPPENED WHILE HIGHWAY DRIVING. LUCKILY THESE INCIDENTS HAVE HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT AND OCCURS FOR A SHORT DURATION. IT IS CONCERNING FROM A SAFETY STANDPOINT. I BROUGHT IT IN TO A KIA DEALERSHIP AND IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ELECTRONICS IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THEY HAVE NO RECALL LISTED AND IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE OUTSIDE THE 50K BASIC MILEAGE WARRANTY WHICH OURS IS SINCE WE TEND TO PUT A LOT OF HIGHWAY MILES ON OUR VEHICLE. IT ISN'T TOO MUCH OVER THOUGH AND WE TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF IT. I WOULD FIND IT VERY HARD TO BELIEVE IT THAT IS CAUSED FROM WEAR AND TEAR BUT MORE LIKELY TO BE A MANUFACTURER DEFECT.

THE STEERING ON MY SORENTO EX FEELS 'STICKY' AND UNSAFE. WHENEVER DRIVING, WHETHER IN THE CITY, ON THE HIGHWAY, OR IN A NEIGHBORHOOD, IT FEELS AS THOUGH THE STEERING WHEEL IS CONSTANTLY GETTING STUCK FOR HALF OF A SECOND AND NEEDS CONSISTENT READJUSTMENT. THE PROBLEM IS ESPECIALLY EVIDENT WHEN DRIVING AROUND A TURN, BUT IT IS VERY NOTICEABLE EVEN WHILE DRIVING ON A STRAIGHT ROAD OR HIGHWAY.

WHEN THE VEHICLE IS DRIVING STRAIGHT THE STEERING WILL FEEL LIKE IT HESITATES SLIGHT MOVEMENTS AND THEN RELEASES CAUSING ME TO OVER STEER. ALMOST LIKE THE ELECTRONIC STEERING IS INTERMITTENT. TO THE POINT WHERE I WILL END UP IN THE OTHER LANE SLIGHTLY AND CONTINUALLY HAVE TO COUNTER STEER THE VEHICLE.

DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE GOING AROUND AN ONRAMP AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP , TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON AND ANOTHER LIGHT COMES ON AND FEELS LIKE THERE IS NO POWER STEERING. I PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURN OFF THE VEHICLE FOR A FEW MINUTES AND TURN BACK ON WHILE CALLING THE DEALERSHIP AND IT RESETS THE LIGHTS AND CODES. I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN SINCE I HAVE BOUGHT THIS IN 2017. THE LAST 2 TIMES HAVE BEEN 1 MONTH APART. THIS WILL HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING AND IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT AND WHILE TURNING.

PURCHASED WITH ABOUT 17,000 MILES. ON WAY HOME FROM DEALER (70 MPH FLAT, MOSTLY STRAIGHT HIGHWAY) I NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMED TO GET STUCK WHEN IT HADN'T BEEN ADJUSTED FOR SEVERAL SECONDS, ALMOST AS IF THE POWER STEERING WOULD TURN OFF. AFTER USING QUITE A BIT OF FORCE TO TURN THE WHEEL, THE POWER STEERING SEEMED LIKE IT WOULD WAKE UP AGAIN, CAUSING ME TO OVER-CORRECT. AFTER I BECAME FAMILIAR WITH THE ISSUE ON THE HIGHWAY, I NOTICED IT WOULD ALSO HAPPEN AT SLOWER SPEEDS. THE DEALER SAID THEY ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE ISSUE AND ARE DOING A SERIES OF SOFTWARE UPDATES THAT THEY SAID WILL CORRECT THIS ISSUE. THEY ARE NOT REPLACING ANY EQUIPMENT. *TR

I PURCHASED I USED 2017 KIA SORENTO FWD IN SEPTEMBER OF 2019. THE VEHICLE IS GREAT EXCEPT THE MORE I DROVE IT, THE MORE I NOTICED THE STEERING WAS VERY SENSITIVE. IT HAS A STICK JUST AT THE TOP AS WELL. I FEEL THAT THIS CAN CAUSE A SAFETY ISSUE ESPECIALLY WHEN TAKING CURVES AS THE NEED TO CONSTANTLY ADJUST FEELS NECESSARY OR COULD CAUSE ON OVER CORRECTION WHILE DRIVING. THE MORE RESEARCH I DID, I HAVE FOUND MANY PEOPLE TO HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE WITH NO RECALL. IT IS AN ELECTRONIC PROBLEM IN THE STEERING COLUMN. I FEEL THAT KIA NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. THE PROBLEM WITH JUST HAVING THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED IS THAT IT'S GOING TO BE THE SAME PART. THE NEED TO DESIGN A NEW ONE FOR SAFETY REASONS.

STEERING BECOMES NOTCHY WHEN GOING STRAIGHT. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND AROUND TOWN. PROBLEM IS OCCASIONAL, MAYBE ONCE A WEEK, BUT IS VERY DISTRESSING WHEN IT HAPPENS. THE CAR STARTS TO WANDER TO ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER AND WHEN I TRY TO SMOOTHLY CORRECT, THE STEERING WHEEL FEELS 'STUCK'. WITH A LITTLE EFFORT, IT RELEASES AND OVER CORRECTS. NOW I'M HEADING OFF THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD. EFFORT - OVER CORRECT - EFFORT - OVERCORRECT AND SO ON. NOT SURE IF THIS IS RELATED, BUT WHEN TURNING CORNERS IN TOWN, THE FRONT END SEEMS TO JUMP SEVERAL TIMES WHEN GASSING OUT OF THE TURN - MOST NOTABLE WHEN GOING UPHILL AND ON RIGHT TURNS. SOMETIMES CAN FEEL THE JUMP ( OR MAYBE A SLIP ) WHEN ACCELERATING STRAIGHT FROM A STOP. FEELS LIKE SOMETHING BINDING IN THE FRONT - LIKE IF YOU DRIVE A 4WD TRUCK ON DRY PAVEMENT WITH THE FRONT AXLE ENGAGED. CAR ONLY HAS 41,000 MI ON IT AND HAS BEEN DOING BOTH FOR OVER A YEAR. HAVE APPT TOMORROW AT KIA DEALER, BUT NOT TOO CONFIDENT THEY WILL BE ABLE TO REPLICATE THE NOTCHY STEERING, BUT SHOULD BE ABLE TO FEEL THE FRONT END JUMP. *TR

I BOUGHT THIS CAR A FEW WEEKS AGO, AND WHEN I TEST DROVE IT, I DID NOT FEEL WHAT I FEEL ALMOST ON A DAILY BASIS NOW. IT HAPPENS MORE SO WHEN GOING 40 MPH OR MORE AND CAN FEEL IT ON THE STRAIGHTAWAYS. THE STEERING WHEEL FEELS LIKE IT GETS LOCKED OR STUCK AND IT TAKES MORE FORCE TO STRAIGHTEN THE CAR OUT. I CAN NEVER GET THE CAR TO GO PERFECTLY STRAIGHT AS IT VEERS TO ONE SIDE OF THE LINE AND WHEN I TRY TO CORRECT IT, THE STICKINESS ALLOWS FOR IT TO OVER CORRECT WHICH CAUSES ME TO VEER TO THE OTHER SIDE. I AM CONSTANTLY TRYING TO KEEP MY CAR GOING STRAIGHT AND IT'S A STRUGGLE AND FRUSTRATING AND I FEEL LIKE I CAN NEVER HAVE JUST 1 HAND ON THE WHEEL. WE BOUGHT THIS CAR FOR THE 3 ROW SEATING AND LIKING TO TRAVEL WITH FAMILY AND A NEW BABY ON THE WAY. I FEEL LIKE THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AND NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT BUT WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER ALL WE GET BACK IS "CANNOT REPLICATE CUSTOMER COMPLAINT." SOME DAYS ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS, LIKE IT ENGAGES AND DISENGAGES. I HAVE HAD MY HUSBAND, MOM, DAD, AND MECHANIC FROM CARMAX ALL FEEL THE SAME THING AS I DO, SO I KNOW IT IS NOT JUST IN MY HEAD (AS I THOUGHT BEFORE WHEN I GOT IT BACK FROM KIA).

I LOST POWER STEERING THREE TIMES. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT WENT ON EACH TIME. ON TWO OF THE OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALER. IT WAS TOWED TO MODESTO KIA AND PASO ROBLES KIA, BOTH IN CALIFORNIA. IN MODESTO , 1/18, I WAS TOLD IT WAS A DIRTY BATTERY CABLE THAT THE CAR HAD RESET ITSELF AND THERE WERE NO MORE PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER STEERING. NINE DAYS LATER ON 1/27, IT WENT OUT AGAIN IN CAMBRIA, CA. THIS TIME I WAS DRIVING BUT WAS ABLE TO MOVE TO A SAFE PLACE. THE KIA DEALERSHIP IN PASO ROBLES SAID WHEN THE CAR ARRIVED THE LIGHT WAS OFF AND THERE WERE NO ISSUES WITH THE POWER STEERING. I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD PUT MILES ON THE CAR IN AN EFFORT TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM. THAT AFTERNOON AS IT WAS SET TO BE DRIVEN BY THE TECHNICIAN THE LIGHT WENT ON AND POWER STEERING WAS LOST. I WAS TOLD THE TECHNICIAN SAW A PROBLEM IN THE FUSE BOX, HE FIXED IT AND THE CAR WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO. THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS RUDE AND UNSYMPATHETIC. MY CONCERNS WERE NOT VALIDATED OR ACKNOWLEDGED, NEEDLESS TO SAY, I VERY UPSET BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR. ESPECIALLY, GIVEN THE FACT THAT WHAT THEY SAID THEY DID TO FIX THE PROBLEM DID NOT MAKE ANY SENSE TO ME. I KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE AND FURTHER INVESTIGATION BY BOTH DEALERS MAY HAVE DISCOVERED IT BUT THEY WENT WITH THE FIRST THING THEY FOUND. THERE ARE OTHER COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME REASON. I TRULY FELT UNSAFE. DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND BECAUSE OF THAT, I FELT I HAD NO OTHER CHOICE BUT TO PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE SORENTO IS UNSAFE AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT. I PRAY YOU WILL INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE AND WITH THIS CAR SPECIFICALLY. I ALSO HAVE A KIA CUSTOMER CARE CASE NO; 13527008

AROUND 32,000 MILES THE CAR BEGAN TO DEVELOP A STICKY, NOTCHED FEELING IN THE STEERING PARTICULARLY WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN MOST OFTEN AFTER THE CAR HAS REMAINED GOING STRAIGHT FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, WITH NO NEED FOR STEERING ADJUSTMENT. THEN SUDDENLY ADJUSTMENT BECOMES JERKY. SOMETIMES THE WHEEL FEELS STICKY AT THE ONSET OF MOVING IT, REQUIRING MORE FORCE, WHICH LEADS TO TOO MUCH LANE SHIFT, OTHER TIMES IT MOVES FREELY JUST A LITTLE, BUT THE CAR DOESN'T MOVE UNTIL THE WHEEL AGAIN BECOMES STICKY AND MOVING IT RESULTS IN OVERCOMPENSATION. IT'S DIFFICULT TO DESCRIBE, IT FEELS ALMOST LIKE YOU ARE DRIVING IN A RUT AND CAN'T AT FIRST GET OUT OF IT WITH JUST THE NORMAL AMOUNT OF STEERING USUALLY REQUIRED TO MOVE THE VEHICLE AND SO HAVE TO TURN THE WHEEL HARDER, EXCEPT YOU ARE NOT IN A RUT. THE OVERCOMPENSATION IS PARTICULAR WORRISOME ON SNOWY AND ICY HIGHWAYS WHERE A SUDDEN SHIFT CAN LEAD TO A SLIDE. IT'S POSSIBLE THE PROBLEM IS HAPPENING AROUND TOWN AS WELL, BUT BECAUSE THE ROADS ARE CURVY AND I'M MAKING TURNS, I'M ALREADY MAKING LARGE STEERING WHEEL ADJUSTMENTS SO IT'S LESS NOTICEABLE.

INTERMITTENT STEERING PROBLEM EXPERIENCED DURING BOTH HIGHWAY AND CITY DRIVING. WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT, THE CAR'S STEERING WILL STICK IN THE 12 O'CLOCK POSITION REQUIRING THE DRIVER TO FORCE THE STEERING WHEEL RIGHT OR LEFT CAUSING CONSTANT OVER STEER ADJUSTMENTS. THIS LACK OF VEHICLE CONTROL IS CAUSE FOR CONCERN, ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR SLIPPERY CONDITIONS.

THE TRUCK STEERING STICKS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. IT RESISTS MOVING THEN LETS GO ALL AT ONCE. THIS CAUSES OVER CORRECTION FORCING THE TRUCK TO WANDER SIDE TO SIDE IN THE LANE. I'VE HAD IT BACK TO THE DEALER TWICE WITH NO SOLUTION. IT'S AN IRRITATION AT BEST AND UNSAFE AT WORST.

Apr 23, 2019

THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. IT USUALLY HAPPENS ON STRAIGHTAWAYS. I NOTICE IT USUALLY ON ROADS NOT IN THE CITY. IT IS AS IF THE STEERING LOCKS UP AND YOU HAVE TO FORCE IT WITH BOTH HANDS TO GET IT TO UNLOCK. THE PATTERN CANNOT BE REPEATED. I TOOK THIS PROBLEM TO THE DEALERSHIP ONCE AND THE MECHANIC SAID HE "TWEAKED" IT. HOWEVER, IT STARTED HAPPENING AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THEY HAVEN'T HAD ANY COMPLAINTS. THIS HAS HAPPEND ON MULTIPLE DATES AND I DON'T HAVE THEM LISTED BUT HAD TO PUT A DATE TO LOG THIS PROBLEM.

AS I AM DRIVING OVER 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE WILL LOSE ALL POWER AND CAUTION LIGHTS ILLUMINATE ON THE DASH, RADIO TURNS OFF, POWER STEERING GOES OUT, CAR DECREASES SPEED. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY TURNS BACK ON, BUT THERE IS NO ACCELERATION TO THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 5 DAYS AND IT HAPPED 3 TIMES TODAY MARCH 12, 2019. ALL INCIDENTS WERE ON CITY STREETS, WHILE GOING STRAIGHT AT SPEEDS 40 MPH OR MORE. THE LAST TIME, WAS WHILE I WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN GETTING ON THE FREEWAY. AFTER EACH OCCURRENCE, I WOULD SAFELY PULL OFF THE ROAD, TURN THE VEHICLE OFF, WAIT A COUPLE SECONDS AND TURN THE CAR BACK ON. THE CAR WOULD RESUME BACK TO NORMAL. I HAVE NOTICED THAT AFTER THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, WHEN I DO THE FIRST ATTEMPT TO TURN THE CAR ON, IT DOES NOT TURN OVER.

STEERING WHEEL FEELS VERY LOOSE. IT GIVES YOU THE SENSATION THAT THE CAR IS MEANDERING BUT IT IS NOT. YOU HAVE TO CONSTANTLY CORRECT THE STEERING WHEEL AND IT IS NOT ALWAYS RESPONSIVE. ALSO, IT FEELS LIKE IT IS STICKING WHICH CAUSES AN OVER CORRECTION AND YOU SUDDENLY HEAD INTO THE LANE NEXT TO YOU. THIS HAPPENS ESPECIALLY AT SPEEDS OVER 50MPH. VERY UNCOMFORTABLE DRIVING. FEELS VERY UNSAFE.WIFE REFUSES TO DRIVE THE CAR. I'M CONCERNED THE CONDITION COULD GET EVEN WORSE AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I SEE NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT THERE SHOULD BE ONE. PURCHASED NEW IN 2018, THE 2017 SORENTO AWD VEHICLES STEERING FROM THE SHOWROOM FLOOR WAS FINE. AFTER ROUGHLY 1000 MILES, THE STEERING HANGS AS I'M DRIVING INTO A 12:00 POSITION. AS SPEEDS INCREASE ON HIGHWAY, THE LEVEL OF EFFORT TO PULL THE STEERING WHEEL PAST THIS LOCKING POSITION INCREASES SOMEWHAT. ALSO AT HIGHWAYS SPEEDS THE CAR WANDERS ALL OVER THE ROAD REGARDLESS OF THE TYPE OF ROAD SURFACE. UNDERSTANDABLY GROOVED CONCRETE PAVEMENT CAN CAN THIS TO SOME DEGREE BUT THE SORENTO DOES IT EVEN ON FLAT SMOOTH, BRAND NEW BLACKTOP ROADS. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS YOU HAVE TO PULL THE STEERING WHEEL STRONGLY IN THE DIRECTION OF THE ROAD AND THEN IT UNLOCKS SO TO SPEAK AND OVER STEERS THE CAR IN THE INTENDED DIRECTION. I'VE TRIED EVERYTHING TO TRY TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. 1). TURNED OFF STEERING WHEEL CENTERING FUNCTION IN THE VEHICLE SOFTWARE. 2). UNDER INFLATED THE TIRES APPROX 5 LBS. 3). OVER INFLATED THE TIRES BY 2-3 POUNDS. 4). CHANGED STEERING WHEEL TILT ANGLE. I AM VERY AFRAID OF THIS VEHICLE NOW. PARTICULARLY WHEN MY GRANDKIDS ARE IN IT. WE BOUGHT THIS 3RD ROW SEATED CAR FOR THEM. WHEN MY WIFE IS DRIVING THE CAR ALONE I'M PARTICULARLY CONCERNED SHE MAY HAVE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT! THIS AUTOMOBILE WAS NOT AN INEXPENSIVE MODEL. I CAN'T AFFORD TO TAKE A HUGE LOSS SELLING THE CAR BECAUSE THIS INFORMATION IS WIDELY DISTRIBUTED ACROSS THE INTERNET AND NO ONE IS LIKELY TO BUY IT ANYWAY. PLEASE, HELP US ON THIS ISSUE. I LOVE THE CAR IN GENERAL BUT I'VE OWNED OLD JUNKERS THAT STEERED BETTER AND THIS START AT ONLY 1000 MILES. IT'S BAD ENOUGH THAT THERE WILL BE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THESE ISSUES. AT SPEEDS STARTING AT 30 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL BECOMES UNRESPONSIVE AND THERE IS SOME RESISTANCE IN TRYING TO TURN IT. WITH ENOUGH PRESSURE YOU CAN OVERCOME THE RESISTANCE BUT IN DOING SO YOU TEND TO OVER STEER THE VEHICLE AND HAVE TO CORRECT FOR THAT. THE FASTER THE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING THE MORE PRONOUNCED THIS PROBLEM IS. IT IS AS THOUGH THE STEERING WHEEL HAS LOST ITS FLUIDITY AS IF CAUSED BY VERY LOW TIRE PRESSURE OR A CROSS WIND EVEN THOUGH NEITHER OF THOSE CONDITIONS ARE PRESENT. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR 2 REASONS. FIRST, IT IS DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN ITS LANE. SECOND, IT IS VERY FATIGUING TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH THIS DEFECT. IN MID DECEMBER OF 2018 I DROVE THE VEHICLE FROM OCONOMOWOC, WI TO DES MOINES, IA AND THE PROBLEM WAS PERSISTENT THE ENTIRE DRIVE AND THEN AGAIN A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER ON THE RETURN TRIP. AS A RESULT THIS DEFECT DRIVING REQUIRES EXTRA CONCENTRATION AND IS FATIGUING TO SAY THE LEAST. I NOTICED THE PROBLEM AS EARLY AS SEPTEMBER OF 2018. BUT THE LONGER DRIVE IN DECEMBER OF 2018 CITED ABOVE CONFIRMED THE MAGNITUDE OF THE PROBLEM AND THE POTENTIAL DANGERS ASSOCIATED WITH IT. THE PROBLEMS REMAINS ONGOING AND IS UNAFFECTED BY WEATHER CONDITIONS, THOUGH WIND SEEMS TO EXACERBATE INTENSITY SOMEWHAT.

BETWEEN 25PM AND 75MPH THE STEERING IN MY 2017 KIA SORENTO BECOMES STICKY AND NOTCH LIKE. THERE IS NO SMOOTHNESS IN THE TURN OF THE WHEEL. AT HIGH SPEEDS (45MPH AND HIGHER) THE PROBLEM BECOMES EXTREMELY NOTICEABLE. THE CAR FEELS VERY UNSAFE WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE CONSTANT CORRECTION IN MY DIRECTION OF TRAVEL MAKE FOR A VERY UNEASY AND UNCOMFORTABLE DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY. THE NEED TO CORRECT DIRECTION LEADS TO A VERY UNSAFE OVER-CORRECTION. THE PROBLEM WASN'T NOTICEABLE UPON ORIGINAL PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE. CURRENTLY HAVE 30K MILES. PROBLEM BECAME EXTREMELY NOTICEABLE AROUND THE 20-22K MARK. WHILE DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE STEERING LOCKS AND YOU CAN'T MAKE MINOR ADJUSTMENTS TO STAY IN YOUR LANE OF TRAVEL WITHOUT HAVING TO APPLY HEAVY PRESSURE TO BREAK IT FREE. THIS CAUSES YOU TO OVER CORRECT. BROUGHT IT IN TO KIA IN JANUARY AFTER A COMPLETELY MISERABLE 4 HOUR TRIP TO NEW ORLEANS AND THEY SAID IT WAS FIXED. DROVE AN HOUR HOME AND EVERYTHING WAS GOOD. LX MODEL AWD. PURCHASED AT 21K MILES, CURRENTLY HAS 33K MILES. STEERING CAN BE DESCRIBED AS "STICKY" WITH MICRO STEERING WHEEL ADJUSTMENTS NEEDED TO KEEP THE CAR TRACKING STRAIGHT. AS THE WHEEL IS TURNED LEFT OR RIGHT THERE IS A DELAY AND SMALL LAG OR BUMPING FELT UNTIL THE ACTUAL STEERING ADJUSTMENT IS TRANSFERRED TO THE CARS WHEELS. THIS OCCURS AND IS MORE PRONOUNCED AT HIGHER SPEEDS. IT IS NOTICEABLE AND CONCERNING WHEN TRYING TO HOLD THE CAR STRAIGHT ON A LONG STRETCH OF HIGHWAY. MY CONCERN FROM A SAFETY POINT, IS THAT THE STEERING MECHANISMS WILL FAIL OR FREEZE UP. BESIDES THE FACT THAT DRIVING THE CAR IS ANNOYING TO OPERATE LIKE THIS AND CAUSES FATIGUE, THERE IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING NOT RIGHT AS I HAVE READ FROM MANY FORUMS ONLINE. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT ELSE ABOUT THE KIA SORENTO, BUT THIS STEERING ISSUE VERY CONCERNING. HAVE ALREADY RULES OUT TIRES, ALIGNMENT ETC. THE FEELING IN THE STEERING WHEEL IS PRONOUNCED AND NOT SOMETHING I HAVE EVER FELT IN ANY CAR I HAVE EVER DRIVEN IN 45 YEARS.

WHILE DRIVING, THE STEERING WHEEL SITUATED AT 12:00 O'CLOCK STICKS IN THAT POSITION ENOUGH THAT IT REQUIRES THE DRIVER TO MOVE THE WHEEL BACK TO THE 12:00 O'CLOCK POSITION. ANY SLIGHT CORRECTION MAKES THE VEHICLE SWERVE. THIS ACTION OCCURS WHEN CORRECTING TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. THIS GIVES THE APPEARANCE THAT THE DRIVER IS IMPAIRED. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHETHER DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY OR TWO LANE CITY STREET. IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THE POWER STEERING IS TO BLAME. I HAD THE VEHICLE IN FOR REGULAR SERVICE BUT NOTED THE ISSUE. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME BUT WAS TOLD NOTHING COULD BE FOUND. I DOUBT SERIOUSLY THEY EVEN DROVE THE CAR. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN A STATIONARY POSITION. SHORTLY AFTER BUYING THE KIA IT DEVELOPED A PROBLEM WHERE THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD STICK WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. IT TAKES A LITTLE EXTRA EFFORT TO MOVE THE WHEEL PAST THESE STICKING POINTS MOSTLY AT 12 O'CLOCK POSITION AND IT GRADUALLY BECOMES MORE DIFFICULT THE FASTER THE CAR TRAVELS. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THIS IS QUITE TROUBLESOME AND DANGEROUS AS THE PROBLEM IS AMPLIFIED. WHILE TRAVELING IN TRAFFIC AT HIGHER SPEEDS,WINDY CONDITIONS,SEARCHING YOUR MIRROR TO CHANGE LANES,ETC., IF THE CAR WANDERS SOMETIMES IT CAUSES ME TO OVER CORRECT WHICH IN TURN CAUSES ANOTHER OVER CORRECTION TO RETURN TO THE LANE . I HAVE HAD THESE PROBLEMS ON THE HIGHWAY AND CANNOT FIND A WAY TO ADJUST. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM BUT IF IT HAPPENS IT STAYS FOR THE DURATION OF THE DRIVE, IT MAY OR MAY NOT BE THERE NEXT TIME. A RECENT INCIDENT HAS CAUSED ME TO NOTIFY KIA AND NHTSA. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT NO ONE WAS HURT BUT OVER CORRECTING CAUSED AN INCIDENT THAT SHOOK UP MY WIFE AND I AS I COULD HAVE EASILY LOST CONTROL ON THAT HIGHWAY, IN TRAFFIC AT THAT SPEED AT NIGHT. WE ENDED UP TAKING BACK ROADS. I HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR BUT THEY FOUND NOTHING. A TECHNICIAN TOLD ME TODAY THAT I PROBABLY NEED TO GET USED TO THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. AFTER A YEAR NOW? HE APPARENTLY KNEW SOMETHING AND HAS ANSWERED SIMILAR QUESTIONS AS I BELIEVE THAT NOT ALL KIA'S HAVE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. IT AMY ALSO BE WEATHER RELATED SINCE IT SEEMED TO RETURN AS THE WEATHER HAS GOTTEN COLDER. I HAVE SEARCHED ON LINE AND HAVE FOUND OTHERS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH HYUNDAI AS WELL. I'M LEAVING THE CAR WITH A KIA DEALER 12/26.

A FEW MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE 2017 KIA SORENTO WE BEGAN NOTICING STEERING ISSUES. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME BUT APPEARS TO HAPPEN AFTER THE CAR WARMS UP. YOU MUST CONSTANTLY ADJUST THE STEERING TO DRIVE STRAIGHT. THE CAR WILL DRIFT TO THE LEFT AND WHEN YOU TRY TO CORRECT, THE CAR FIGHTS YOU. ALL OF THE SUDDEN, THE STEERING RELEASES AND THEN THE CAR DRIFTS RIGHT AND THE STEERING FIGHTS YOU TRYING TO ADJUST LEFT. IT MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE DRIVING STRAIGHT EVEN ON STRAIGHT, FLAT ROADS. I STATED BELOW THAT IT HAPPENED ON MARCH 6, 2017. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ON ANY ROAD (CITY OR HIGHWAY) IT WANTS TO DRIFT TO THE SIDE AND WHEN YOU GO TO CORRECT THE STEERING IT FEELS STICKY, FOR LACK OF BETTER WORDS, AND THERE IS A DELAY IN THE RESPONSE. SO I END UP OVER CORRECTING, AND I'M ALL OVER THE ROAD. THIS CAR IS SO UNSAFE AS IT IS RIGHT NOW. I'VE TAKEN MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE, CALLED CONSUMER ADVISORS FOR KIA, HAS A TECH GO FOR A TEST DRIVE, AND SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER.
