1. The Snow White Paint is lifting and peeling in all areas of the vehicle. 2. The engine, despite proper care and maintenance, is seizing occasionally upon starting the vehicle. 3. Auto Braking System and Lane Departure turns off at random
At night when I am driving, the headlight goes off. The light switch does not work on some settings. I never know when or where this dangerous situation is going to happen. Therefore, I try to avoid driving at night, as much as possible. This problem was addressed to Kia more than a year ago. They keep saying that they don't see a problem.
ABS Module. could catch on fire at any time It has been confirmed with the dealership And Another auto Independent service shop. It has been inspected by Kia sunset dealership In an automotive independent service shop. that Found brake fluid in the harness Going to the a b s module shorting out and melting connections creating miscommunication with other modules. That when. found there was a recall on this. Tge Warning lights was ABS module, engine light. Tire pressure light. My speedometer didn't work. My odometer didn't work. And air conditioner didn't work, getting the car out of park. And the airbag light came on. Some lights came in june. I had to pay for the part up front to get it fixed. It going into the shop soon to fix the ABS Module.
Panoramic sunroof sunshade has detached on one side and is hanging down, affecting visibility.
I came to this website because it was suggested to me to look for a recall. While there is an active recall with my car, the interesting part to me is the fact that the issues I'm having with my car match a recall for the same model as mine, just a different spec. To me that seems odd, I'd have the same type issues... I was wondering how to get this examined.
Oil consumption
Paint peeling on hood and roof
The car is a 2017 Kia Sorento with approximately 73,000 miles. We have always had the oil changed at the Kia dealership. A month after the last time I had it changed (1/2025) we were going on a trip so my dad checked the oil. There was no oil in it. Since then we have been having to put oil in it about once a month or so because it runs out. It is not leaking anywhere and no oil light comes on when it does run out. The oil is disappearing. The oil is burning internally. I am having difficulties with the dealership in addressing the oil consumption issue, even when it's a known problem. This last time I spoke with Robert at Kia Ramada in Shelby NC. They want me to pay for them to look at it and then said they would write up a report to see if corporate would cover it. I feel like since this is a known issue I shouldn’t have to pay for them to look at or diagnose it. He said it would not be covered unless the engine locked up. Well if I keep driving it and don’t keep putting oil in it, it will lock up. I’d rather you fix the issue than have to put in a whole new motor. Please get in touch with me asap so I know what further actions that I will need to take to resolve this matter.
I am unsure what component system failed or malfunctioned. The car is in the toe place. It's a total loss burned from front to back my safety was put at risk by no indication of any lights coming on my dashboard. By the time I stopped the whole front into my car was on fire. It burned from from 2 back within 8 minutes. It has not been inspected by insurance. The police were there when the fire was put out along with the fire department. There were no warning lights or lamps of any indication of a problem. I was driving down the road and I seemed small but I had no lights on my dashboard. Indicating anything was wrong? So I drove as soon as I started to slow down at the stoplight. Flames started coming out of the driver's side of the hook. But I turned the corner and stopped the car and the whole front end.By the time I stopped was on fire.I contacted the fire department and within 8 minutes. The car was a total loss
I am writing to bring to your attention a concerning issue regarding the instrument panel of the 2016-2020 Kia Sorento. My car - 2017 Kia Sorento. In approx. 2021, I noticed a small 2 cm crack resembling a razor blade cut on my instrument panel (Part Number: 84710-C5000WK, also 84710-C6000WK and 84710-C6001WK). At the time, I did not find this defect alarming as it was minor and located far from the airbag area. However, over time, the situation has deteriorated significantly. The small crack has now developed into three substantial cracks measuring between 6 to 8 inches, with some of them encroaching upon the airbag area. I am increasingly concerned that these cracks may impact the airbag deployment mechanism and potentially result in fragments from the panel flying out during a collision, an issue that has been documented in other vehicle brands in the past. After conducting some research, I found that this problem appears to be common among the Kia Sorento models manufactured between 2016 and 2020. Numerous sources online indicate that these dashboard cracks pose a safety hazard. I have made attempts to address this issue directly with Kia. However, I was informed that the initial inspection fee is $150, and the estimated cost for part replacement and installation is approximately $3,959. This amount is quite significant. I urge your organization to investigate this matter further and consider providing a remedy for affected customers. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Engine problem. I've had to replace spark plugs and have to add oil almost every week. This was done about 3 months ago. Today check engine light came back on and it's the same problem stalling and shaking as if it's going to dye in me .. I bought my car brand new I've been the only owner..it's only got 80,000 miles .. I know that you guys have life time warranty on your engines .what do I need to do to have it repaired under warranty?
None of the above. The paint is continuously chipping on the hood and top of the car. When I’m driving, sometimes I see others with the same car as me and their paint is also chipping really bad. It’s only on the Kia Sorento from what I can tell. It makes the car look horrible and it’s very expensive to repaint a car. There has to be some kind of warranty they need to issue. I have a 2017 Kia Sorento. It started maybe a year or so ago, and it’s getting continuously worse at a very fast pace. It looks horrible. You can already see where the next chunks want to come off. Even when washing the car the paint comes off. When you pay $30,000 for a car, the last thing you want is for all the paint to come off and there is nothing you can do about it. THIS IS NOT NORMAL!
The inhibitor switch won’t let me take my car out of park
Coolant system not functioning properly replace thermostat and worked a day then back to overheating. Engine overheating with new oil and filter also shakes badly Car does not shut of when ignition is pressed the first time have start the car then shut it off again
Shifter isn't releasing from park. They state the Body Control Module (BCM) I been reading on this and it goes out with higher mileage Kia Sorento SUV. This is a safety hazard.
This 2017 Kia Sorento is using an excessive amount of motor oil and looking online regarding this issue, there have been many complaints about this. The vehicle has just over 61K miles. The engine light came on (9/10/2024) and we pulled over. Unsure of what to look for, I checked the oil level and there was barely any oil on the dip-stick. The oil was changed this past May (2024) and should not be using this much to where its not registering. There doesn't seem to be any recalls for this but only complaints from other owners and not much help from KIA Corp. I'm not sure if there's any recourse here.
The component failure appears to be a latent defect in the painting process. The color is Snow White Pearl. It is bubbling up and delaminating in two places. It was first noticed at about 6 months and about 6000 miles after purchase. The dealer was contacted, and they said they had never heard of any paint problems on my type of vehicle. This was unbelievable because of the numerous complaints i have read about. They offered no other information other than to contact KIA customer-care, which I did. KIA customer care said there is nothing they can do because it is out of warranty, but they will report the issue to KIA corporate. Lots of Complaints on the internet, and a class action suit in CA. The case is US District Court for the Central District of California Case number 8:16-CV-00593-BRO-PJW. Hopeful that you will hold KIA accountable.
The headlight setting randomly changes from “Auto” to “Off” without any operator input. This happens roughly every fourth drive.
I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding a significant issue with the paint on my 2017 Kia Sorento. The vehicle, which is painted in Snow White Pearl, has been experiencing rapid and extensive paint peeling, a condition referred to by body shops as “delamination.” The paint began peeling in small areas however, the peeling has rapidly progressed, affecting larger sections of the vehicle. This issue is not only unsightly but also raises concerns about the potential for rust and other damage to the vehicle’s body. I have taken the following steps to address this issue: 1. Documented the progression of the paint peeling with photographs, including dates and mileage. 2. Consulted with multiple body shops, all of which have confirmed that the issue is delamination and have provided estimates for repair. 3. Contacted my local Kia dealership, which informed me that the vehicle’s paint warranty had expired and offered no assistance. Given the widespread nature of this issue among Kia Sorento owners, particularly those with the Snow White Pearl paint, I believe this is a manufacturing defect that warrants investigation. I urge the NHTSA to look into this matter and consider initiating a recall to address the paint delamination problem.
I have a 2017 Kia Sorento and I have been having problems with the turbo, in the 7 years I have had it they have replaced the turbo twice and now this would be the third time. Every job done has been at the Kia agency I bought it which means this is definitely a manufactured problem. At the dealership the three times I have taken it they have told me the turbo fell off and it damaged other things, including the engine. My safety was at risk because my car broke down in the middle of driving it started to slow down and would not go up hills which could have caused an accident. The problem has been confirmed with the dealership service center all 3 times and they offered to replace it at no cost the first two times and now they are requesting I pay for it. The vehicle has not been inspected by the police or insurance, all 3 times I have taken it for service has been at the Kia dealership where I bought it from. There was no warnings no lights nothing, it just started doing a weird sound like it was being forced too much and it started slowing down.
12/30/23 our home burned down, and our children were almost killed by a fire. It started from my KIA Sorento, starting on fire at random. Several hours after it was parked in our garage. Looking at security camera it started in rear of vehicle. Upon further investigation finding out that we were was supposed to have been sent a notice warning us of the recall for the trailer hitch. Never received notice. I have been the only owner of that vehicle. In dec of 2023 our local dealership (where I purchased) called and inform me know of the recall. To date no resolution has been made.
The paint I'd peeling off the hood.
This is a 2017 vehicle, and the paint is peeling off of various areas of the vehicle.
Vehicle drastic stalling problem. It would often stall and dramatically reduce speed. Experienced 3 times driving on highway reduced fro 60mph to 20mph without breaking and engine light come on while vehicle has heavy shaking and consistent stalling. First time I was told it was knock sensor and got it replaced. Second time I was told it was coil and spark plug and had it replaced. Third time same thing as second time I was told coil/oil consumption burning issue and to get it checked at dealer. Dealer said cylinder failed compression test and need new engine. Vehicle only 94550 miles. I have always felt the vehicle stalling and I thought it was normal since I have mentioned to dealer service on occasion if it is normal to require oil change before the recommended oil change date/millage on the dash. The answer I got was it's just an estimate and it's normal. Recently I have been searching online and there are forums with complaint from other 2017 kia Sorento owners of similar issues. There seem to have been class action settlement on 3.5 Lt engine Sorento about consumption issue. My concern is if this is a difect, I dont want to risk driving on a highway and I have sudden reduction in speed without breaking indication for other drivers to react. Fortunately I work at night and it was not much vehicles on the road. Vehicle is currently at the dealer debating warranty coverage and testing for cause. I will upload the repairs and findings when complete. God forbids I get new engine and I deal with the same issue on the wrong time of the day. Dates of occurense June2, Sept. 23 of 2023, and march 29, 2024. In kia dealer shop since 04/05/2024.
I purchased 2017 Kia Sorento in 2020. I have to put 2 quarts of oil in it once a week. I noticed it around 2022. I get the oil changed on the regular. The engine is starting to rattle, and my oil light does not indicate when the oil is low. So, I have to check it constantly. The under-carriage rattles excessively. I've taken the suv to dealership and they are telling me that they cannot find anything wrong with it. I am at a loss. Plus, I am still paying a note on the suv.
On January 26th, 2024, the 2017 Kia Sorento was parked outside in an uncovered parking lot (in the rain) for about 8 hours with the ignition off when suddenly the tow hitch harness caught fire and I saw the smoke coming from the car. The fire department was called and we were able to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher before they arrived. Once they arrived, I notified the fire department of the open recall and they were able to pull the fuse to reduce the risk of future fires. I had been into the dealership since the recall was announced and had numerous services performed, but they did not remove the fuse at that time. I had also called a local Kia dealership in December about having the recall remedied, but they were unable to fit me in until mid February. After the fire was extinguished and the fuse had been pulled, I had the vehicle towed to the nearest Kia dealership and contacted them. Since then, the dealership has indicated they cannot work with me and I must work through corporate Kia, but they have not been forthcoming about fixing the recalled issue, repairing the fire damage, or returning my car for nearly 60 days now. I have been back and forth with both email and phone calls with Kia and still haven't even received a date I can expect my car back or information about a loaner/rental car.
No warning labels came up. Heard loud noises and took to the dealership. They said I need a whole new engine.
This has happened 3 times, out of no where my car goes into "limp Mode" and this last time I was pulling out and it wouldn't go and my kids were in the car. This is uncalled for and this needs to be addressed.
On 12/31/23 my vehicle caught on fire while in my driveway and ignition was off. The fire started in the rear/at the hatch. Fire Department was called and extinguished. Arson investigator was called to the scene and found no fowl play. I did receive multiple recall letters for the tow hitch, which could catch fire due to corossion/electrical issues, but was told by a local dealership that I brought the vehicle to, my vehicle was not involved. Based on events, I disagree.
The motor and chemical smell
The vehicle headlights intermittently turn off while driving the vehicle.
I purchased a 2017 Kia Sorento new from Kia of Puyallup. I have taken the vehicle for all changes to Kia of Puyallup. The last two oil changes (9/16/22 and 03/18/23) have shown that within two to three months there wasn’t any oil in the car. During my last oil change 9/16/22, I asked service consultant - Karsten Malin why there was no oil in the car and he stated that it was normal for Kia’s to burn that much oil. Then, a couple of months after the oil change (the dipstick was dry) I reached out to Kia of Puyallup and was told “just put oil in it”. On June 16, 2023 I again reached out to Kia of Puyallup about there being no oil in the car and spoke with the service center manager Tom Evans. This wasn’t normal as I just had an oil change on 03/18/23. At this time I was informed that I would need to bring the car in for an excessive oil consumption test. It would take three attempts and if the last test fails I would need an engine replacement. At that time I asked to make an appointment and was informed they are booked until August and I would need to call during the week to see if I could get the car looked at. In addition, they’re short staffed during certain days during the week/weekend so I would need to check everyday for availability.
i HAVE A 2017 KIA SORENTO i PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE SEPTEMBER 2021. SINCE PURCHASING THIS TRUCK i have had problems with oil consumption.the engine constantly burn oil. I have taken to king KIA in Gaithersburg md . where I'm now being told it keep failing the oil consumption test. and that a combustion cleaning need to perform. AS I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUED I WAS SHOCK TO SEE THAT THIS IS AN ON GOING PROBLEM AND THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS WITH KIA. kia need to be held responsible for these problems NOT THE CONSUMERS. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL.
There is an issue with the oil plug. Constantly leaking oil. I have spoken to several other individuals who have the same problem. The oil leaks can cause a completely empty oil compartment resulting in a blown motor. Walmart super center brought it to my attention. Also, the Kia dealership was notified that the oil was leaking at the time of service but did not seem concerned. The oil light will briefly come on when going down a hill. No flashing lights or visual indicators unless you see the brief oil light. There is also rattling in the engine area that gets worse as the oil gets lower. Very annoying but the biggest concern is the leaking oil.
Hi. While closing my trunk it appeared that the latch and trunk closed. As I took off to drive I realized my trunk door was opening and at the same time the warning light came on. I was driving maybe 30 mph. While pulling over to stop, I went over a pot hole which caused the car to jump up a little. During that time my trunk flew open and the things in my trunk fell out onto the street. There were cars behind me which had to swerve to stop from hitting/ running over my things. My husband had to put the items on the floor in my second row and sit in the trunk and hold it closed until we got home. A catastrophe and I'm glad no accidents happened because of this but there could have been one. Apparently there's a problem with the trunks latching system that's very common and should be recalled. This just happened 2 days ago and I haven't had my appointment yet. They're not available until July 2023. I may need to get rope and tie the trunk closed until my appointment. Thank you.
Lights will just turn off while driving and and the blinkers will not work. The horn will not work either. It happens all the time it doesn’t matter if it’s day time or night time.
My Kia caught fire when it was parked in my driveway not running.
First issue: Computer fails to throw codes for issues like low oil or engine overheating because of a cracked radiator that was bone dry when the mechanic looked at it. At the time of the incident with the cracked radiator, mechanic checked fuses and system but could not find any issues. However, they agreed that check engine light should have come on. But it did not. Second issue: Oil some how magically disappears out of the engine, and because of this, I'm now stuck, with a worthless car that I'm going to have to abandon about 900 miles from my home because it'll cost too much to replace an engine. Even the mechanic that looked at it said it wasn't worth spending the money on replacing the engine. Think about the level of absurdity because that's a big amount of labor for them and they recommended against spending money on the Sorento.. I'm now car less and fucked because of Kia's shitty defects.. I'm sorry for the profanity but I'm lost.. I'm lost.
Unknown. My vehicle has excessive oil consumption, major vibration an oil is shooting out of the top of my motor that may cause a fire.
I have a 2017 Kia Sorento . I bought this vehicle with less than 5000 miles on it. I had the oil changed when it was recommended. Loved the vehicle. Fast forward to about 48,000-50,000 miles. {currently at 62,000 Miles} Had the required oil change done and they noticed the vehicle was low 2 quarts of oil. Oil consumption continued. Had an OIL CONSUMPTION test done {at approximately 53,000 miles] and determined it as a legit complaint. As i am not the original owner and the vehicle warranty expired at 50,000 a free new engine is NOT an option. They offered to complete a free combustion flush. I am now waiting for 1000 miles to recheck the oil to see if the flush took care of the problem, but I did check the oil at 100 miles, and it is down 1/2 a quart already. I will be reporting back to the garage if the consumption gets worse or when I hit the 1000 mile recheck mark. I am seriously concerned about this. I paid a lot of money for this vehicle, and it was to be my last car in my retirement years! If the engine fails, seizes or continues to burn excessive oil and I have to pay for a new engine or more repairs I will be devastated as I am on a Social Security and have a limited incoming. The engine could seize if it burns all the oil when I'm driving and could cause injuries to myself or the public. I know hate this vehicle and wish i never bought it !! I really feel Kia should be required to replace this engine with a SAFE no problems engine!
Excessive oil consumption causing engine to misfire- needing spark plugs replaced with low mileage. Adding 2 quarts of oil about every 700 miles. With no solution given to correct issue.
Window regulator cables are failing. Talked to Auto glass repair shop he has had numerous KIA Sorento's in for failed regulator, he had one just in with only 1 window that worked. There is no stock available & as of right now they cannot even give an estimated delivery date on the ones due-in.
I think there is something wrong with engine I just changed oil with sythitic oil and drove it around at least 100miles and its done 3 quarts and there is no visuable leaks anywhere and also the radio does not work on any station
My car started running badly with a knocking noise at the start. The knocking noise got worse, I so pulled over and checked the oil and there was virtually no oil in the engine. I filled it with oil and the knocking continued and got worse as I drove it to the dealer for service. The engine failed before I could make it to the dealer. It now needs a new engine. The Car was serviced regularly. NO LOW OIL ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON TO NOTIFY ME OF LOW OIL. NO LEAK WAS DETECTED.
My husband and I were driving through a busy section of town and all of a sudden our suv completely lost power, dying on the side of the road. We never had a check engine light or anything come on. When we had it towed to the dealership we were informed our engine had locked up. Apparently there was a product upgrade that should have alerted us that our engine was going out, but we were not notified by Kia of the knock system upgrade. Nor were we informed that, as the second owners of the vehicle, in order to receive such notifications from Kia we needed to contact them and let them know we were the new owners and share our contact information. However, if Kia had classified it as a recall on the warning system, we would have been notified through our registration with the BMV. The dealership did share that this particular engine in a lot of Kia’s models have locked up suddenly similarly to ours. Luckily we were able to get our vehicle stopped right before the intersection, but did end up blocking a lane of traffic until the tow truck came. Kia also refuses to replace our engine because we did not get the knock system upgrade even though we were never notified.
Car oil had not been changed but a month or two ago and only went on one 2-3 hour trip there and back after the oil was changed. Only stayed in town and went to regular grocery store and work after trip. Did not check oil due to not normally having it deplete fast. A month or so later oil deplited rapidly (this is an unknown part if it was fully the cars issue or if was the person who changed the oil.) Oil was lower than normal mainly noticed when car showed oil lamp light (was only blinking did not stay lit) and started halting and jerking when driving home. More oil was added and once that happened the check engine light came on. Car has jerked and been close to stalling when trying to drive to autostore for diagnostics. Since then the car is acting like it did not have oil added. Oil light is off but engine light blinks constantly. The halting and stalling is similar to the recall on other 2017 Kia Sorento's (with a 3.3 L engine) with the crankshaft being the problem. The halting and stalling can lead to an accident. No prior engine issues before this when the oil ran low.
Excessive oil consumption with no low oil warning light. Driving with no oil can cause severe engine damage. I was informed by the Kia dealership after reporting an issue with oil consumption. Issue started in March 2022, diagnosed in april 2022 and 1 month of driving had no oil and no low oil warning light come on after oil change.
Sunroof portion of moonroof exploded while driving on the freeway. We heard a sonic boom inside our car and the sunroof window shattered glass up and outward spraying glass out onto the freeway and into the fabric ceiling liner.
The vehicle has stalled multiple times while in motion presenting a life safety concern, the vehicle is under warranty and has been at the dealer multiple times and they are unable to duplicate and refuse to do any further diagnoses beside scan for active codes which the vehicle does not have. Vehicle currently will not start and has left us stranded in an area where we are concerned for our safety.
Rear left passenger window drum defective. Window has been used maybe 20 times in 5 years. Window will not raise or lower and fails to stay closed. Appears to be window Drum Pulley. From internet chatter, this is happening often. This vehicle has low mileage we purchased it new and we are in our 70’s. Took it to my dealer for repair. My dealer service rep. say’s they get about two vehicles a week with this issue.
While driving the car slows down without me slowing down on the breaks. Car wants to shut down & is vibrating. Car doesn't want to drive past 2000 rpm. I take it to mechanic, he can't find the code. I take to mechanic a 2nd time. I get codes p1326 & p2600. No recalls are found for Sorento but other models there is plenty.
Driving on the highway at 65mph uphill, engine started making horrible noise and started to fail. Pulled over on shoulder and had to have it towed. Kia is denying warranty because I cannot provide service records. Whether or not they will right this wrong it is a major safety issue when you have complete engine failure with no warning. The engine in my vehicle (3.3 v6 Lambda)completely failed without tripping any warning devices that are equipped on the vehicle. There is a Defect that causes the engine to burn too much oil and there is a defect where the vehicle fails to warn of potential safety issues. There was total engine failure with no warnings. No Service Message No Check Engine Light No Low Oil Pressure Light No Knock Sensor Code No Limp Mode activation. In the service technician's report it even says "no codes set in the ecm" This could have caused a fatal accident and I don't see how this is acceptable.
My car was fine, then all of a sudden (after an oil change) it started knocking really loudly. I pulled over and the noise stopped- so I got back in the car a drive home. When I pulled into the driveway, I heard the noise again- knocking. I popped the hood and had daughter press the gas, sure enough- knocking again. I told husband and we parked it, he towed it to the dealership the next day. They said that because my car did not get the "campaign" update- ROD KNOCKING SENSOR- that the extended warranty was null and void. I asked to place a complaint at how the whole situation was handled- they said they mailed us letters, but they must have been the most non-descriptive letters in history. It's not safe- they know about this problem and they are not doing anything about it- they are doing the bare minimum, that is how people get hurt. We owe more to repair this vehicle than it is worth, and there is no "Goodwill" assistance on a car that wasn't "kept". I kept my car within it's normal limits, it's not right how the company chose to notify. They have all my contact info- I am the original owner. Thank goodness my teen daughter wasn't driving.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph when the vehicle began to lag in acceleration when attempting to go uphill. The driver noticed a spark within the instrument panel directly behind the steering wheel. The driver then immediately pulled over and both the driver and the passenger (the contact) exited the vehicle. The vehicle then caught fire. The fire department showed and distinguished the fire. A report was made. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed and deemed totaled. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was contacted and made aware of the failure. A case was opened regarding the matter. The approximate failure mileage was unknown
Steering began sticking at about 55K miles. Got worse over time. Causing difficulty with accurate lane changes or straight steering. Car has electric motor assisted power steering. Found multiple similar cases on line where solution was to replace entire steering column assy. Took car in to dealer (Peoria Kia, Peoria AZ) 15Oct2021. Dealer said had to replace entire column assy- steering. Was covered by 3rd party extended warranty on car, 2 months later, steering stopped working completely. We were able to get the car to the side of the street and stop. Had car towed back to Peoria Kia. They now report broken steering gear, which appears to be related to previous repair. Solution pending back ordered parts. Work order for first repair attached.
The horn on my Kia became very faint causing a safety risk as it was so quiet, that it was no longer a viable safety tool. At 57,711 miles. On 5/13/21 I paid a local certified mechanic to replace the horn. (I was informed there were actually 2 horns). My vehicle was purchased 10/8/16. Since it was under warranty, in June 2021, I provided KIA the receipt to get reimbursed for the horn replacement. After 5 months of my persistent communication with KIA, they denied reimbursement. Early on one of the KIA emails asked for proof of payment (which I provided) and it also stated reimbursements can take up to 60 days. I have the defective horns in my possession.
On 10/03/2021 I was driving on the freeway, when I heard a pop then a thumping sound. After pulling over, we discovered that the engine splash guard had come undone (again!!!) There were no indicators in the vehicle that this was about to happen. There was no debris on the freeway to have caused the shield to come undone. I believe that there is a definite manufacturing defect in this particular part, as this has occurred multiple times, always while driving on the freeway, and never with any associated cause. The only thing that I think is happening is that the bolts/shield are poorly executed and cannot withstand the wind speed when being driven (I was going around 70 MPH)
Oil coming out the exhaust
My engine has given out on me on several occasions.
While driving with headlights in "Auto" mode the lights turn off randomly and stay off for up to 30 seconds. This can cause crash especially while driving at night on unlit roads and highways. This happened many times in 2018 soon after I purchased the car. I brought it to be serviced by Kia several times and it appeared that they had finally fixed the problem. However, over the years it has reoccurred many times and now happens frequently again. I know earlier versions of Kia have been recalled for this same problem but when my car was being serviced they said that my model did not have a recall for this problem. I have seen many complaints online for this same problem. This is a very dangerous issue and needs to be addressed in a Recall!!!
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while his wife was approaching at slow speeding into a carport when she depressed the brake pedal but the vehicle accelerated independently and crashed into the back wall of the carport. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. The contact stated not one sustained any injuries or seek medical attention. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was still at the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 15,322.

When set in AUTO, the headlights will flicker, or turn on and off without reasonable changes in light or conditions that would cause this to occur. This happens at night or dusk, making it difficult to see the road, obstacles and other hazards, as well as making the vehicle difficult to see for other traffic. Adjusting the lighting manually on the stick switch to an ON position appears to restore functionality. This puts the driver and passenger at risk as well as other vehicles. I have not been able to have this reproduced by a dealer or service center. No inspection of the stick switch or electrical components has occurred however the lights have been confirmed to work otherwise by a service center. No warning lights or other indicators occur.
On multiple occasions, my headlights will change randomly. I keep my headlights on auto always. Last night (07/15) at 1130pm being the most recent incident, I was driving on a completely black road (no street lights for several miles) and my lights just shut off on me. Yesterday (07/15) this happened at least 6 times throughout the day, day and night. This has happened at least 20 times Since May 2021. I took my vehicle to the dealership but I was told they were unable to find the issue.
In July 2019 as I was driving, the engine splash shield became loose on the drivers side of my vehicle and started dragging along the road. When I took my car to the dealer I was told that it wasn't covered under the warranty and that I must have driven over something to make it loose. I had NOT driven over anything. I ended up purchasing bolts to replace the loose portion of the splash shield. Then, in January 2020, as the car was driven again, the splash shield came completely off the vehicle. Again, there wasn't any object run over, it just came off. In July 2020, we had the splash shield replaced, as the serpentine drive belt had snapped and gotten caught in the engine. In May 2021, the bolts in the splash shield again came out, and the shield was dragging on the ground. Again, didn't hit any objects or run over anything. Replaced the missing bolts. Our safety was compromised when the shield came off completely and flew into traffic as we were driving. This was also a risk for other people. Then, due to the shield not being in place, and something caused the drive belt to snap and wrap up into the engine was a major safety concern, as I could have lost control of the car. The vehicle was inspected by the dealership, and also by another mechanic. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms other than what I described above.
The paint off of my Kia Sorento is starting to peel off. I have seen videos where this flies off while driving in large and smaller pieces that can obstruct the drivers view or distract them while driving. If it were raining, it could damage the windshield while the wiper blades are running and the paint chips fly up on them. The vehicle is now more susceptible to rust causing the vehicle to be unsafe.
On May 18,2021 my Kia Sorento SXL AWD V6 caught on fire for unknown reason. I was driving with windows open sunroof open and cruise set. Not a single warning light or any weird sounds at all. A car pulled up yelling at me that my car was on fire to pull over off the interstate. I saw nor smelled any smoke anywhere but then I saw a cop had someone pulled over so I figured it would be safe since I was an alone female and it was car of males yelling at me to pull over. As soon as I got out and walked to the front of the car there was still no smoke but flames and what I assumed was plastic dripping from the entire underneath. At this time flames shot out from all around the hood and up the windshield as it instantly shattered. As I ran for my life as stuff kept exploding the state trooper had already called for help so fire department arrived in less then 3 min but my car was gone in less than 45 seconds after I stepped out. I am mentally and physically hurt but luckily only a burn the size of a quarter on my wrist but due to shock while watching my car burn and explode my legs gave out and I sat down hard so 5 days after the fire my legs have recovered from running up an incline for my life but my back pain has only increased. But insurance only covers injuries from the car so running from exploding cars and getting injured is not their problem. Just like Kia allowing all of us Sorento owners to drive our family and loved ones around on a bomb waiting to blow at any moment isn’t their problem either. I have now seen at least 8 2017 Sorento sxl unexplained fire complaints all ending in total loss while only looking on this site and one other site. I have pictures and videos of the fire and how close I was to being in the car as u can see my hoodie laying in front of the car on fire too. Fire started on passenger side of motor just like the defect they supposedly fixed in 2014. If anyone else especially the grandchildren that can’t get themselves out of would have died

I WAS DRIVING TO MY HOUSE FROM MY CABIN AFTER TWO HOURS OF DRIVING I WAS AT A STOPLIGHT AND THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON SO I DECIDED TO KEEP GOING AND TAKE THE NEXT EXIT TO SEE IF I NEEDED OIL..BUT I NEVER MADE IT. MY SON THANKFULLY ROLLED HIS WINDOW AND WAS LIKE MOM THE CAR IS ON FIRE, I THEN TRIED TO PUT THE BREAKS ON BUT THEY DIDN'T WORK SO WE SLOWLY COASTED DOWN TO ABOUT 10-20 AND I WAS LIKE GET OUT. SO HE JUMPED OUT THE MOVING,ON FIRE CAR. HE SUFFERED FROM ROAD RASH. LONG STORY SHORT BY THE FLAMES WERE SO BIG ON THE DRIVES SIDE THAT MY SENSES FINALLY CAME TOGETHER AND SLAMMED THE CAR IN PARK TO STOP IT AND I CRAWLED OUT THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. BY THE TIME THE FIREMEN CAME TO PUT OUT THE FIRE THE CAR WAS BASICALLY TO THE FRAME.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY, WHICH WAS WELL PAVED, NO CONSTRUCTION IN THE AREA AND NO SEMI-TRUCKS NEARBY. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE TRAVELING AT 70 MPH, WHEN I HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION WHICH SOUNDED LIKE A GUN SHOT. THE SOUND WAS SO LOUD, I THOUGHT I WAS REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE TRAVELING AT A HIGH SPEED. FRIGHTENED, I GLANCED AT MY REARVIEW MIRROR AND SEEN MY REAR WINDOW WAS INTACT. THIS IS WHEN I SEEN PIECES OF GLASS FLYING BACK TOWARDS THE CAR BEHIND ME. I FINALLY REALIZED THAT IT WAS MY SUNROOF THAT HAD EXPLODED. I SLOWED DOWN AND MOVED OVER TO THE SLOW LANE. THE DRIVER THAT WAS BEHIND ME, PULLED ALONGSIDE ME IN DISBELIEF AS TO WHAT HAD JUST OCCURRED. AFTER REALIZING I WAS OK, HE CONTINUED ON HIS WAY. I PULLED OFF AN EXIT AND PARKED ON A STREET AND PHOTOGRAPHED THE SHATTERED SUNROOF. IT WAS IN THAT MOMENT I WAS THANKFUL MY WIFE AND KIDS WERE NOT IN THE CAR WITH ME OR THAT I WAS UTILIZING THE SUNROOF. IF THIS WAS THE CASE, THE GLASS COULD HAVE CAUSED SEVERAL INJURIES OR LED TO A MULTIPLE VEHICLE CRASH ON THE FREEWAY DUE TO THE GLASS FALLING DOWN ON TOP OF ME. AFTER TAKING SEVERAL PHOTOGRAPHS, I CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY WHO STATED I COULD FILE A CLAIM OR SEE IF THE DEALERSHIP WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE ISSUE. I DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AT, AND EXPLAINED THE TRAUMATIC EVENT THAT HAD JUST OCCURRED. THE KIA DEALERSHIP JUST INFORMED ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND COMPARED IT TO ME DRIVING OFF THE LOT AND RUNNING OVER A NAIL WITH MY TIRE. THIS RESPONSE WAS VERY FRUSTRATING AND I EXPLAINED TO THEM THIS WAS AN ISSUE THAT IS COMMONLY REPORTED ONLINE. AGAIN, I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND FOR ME TO FILE A CLAIM WITH MY INSURANCE. THIS WAS A SCARY SITUATION TO EXPERIENCE AND I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A RECALL OF THIS VEHICLE TO FIX THE ISSUE OR INFORM CONSUMERS BEFORE IT HAPPENS SO IT DOES NOT CAUSE ANY FUTURE INJURIES OR DEATHS.

WE WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY FROM NC TO VA AND THE SUNROOF EXPLODED. WE PULLED OVER BECAUSE WE WERE UNSURE WHAT CAUSE SUCH A LOUD NOISE ONLY TO SEE THE SUNROOF SHATTERED. IT WAS CLEAR NOTHING HAD CAUSED IT AND IT JUST EXPLODED ON ITS OWN. WE IMMEDIATELY TOOK PICTURES, CONTACTED KIA AND FILED OUR CLAIM WITH THEM. THEY'VE FINALLY COME BACK SAYING THAT SINCE THEY CAN'T ASCERTAIN THE CAUSE OF THE DAMAGE TO THE SUNROOF THEY'RE CAN'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY.

JANUARY 17, 2020, I AM STILL UNDER THE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION TESTING. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AS THEY TOLD ME TO ON DEC. 30 2019, I MET MY 1000 MILES, IT WAS DOWN 1 QT. OF OIL. THE DIPSTICK IS 'SEALED' TO THE ELECTRIC HARNESS, THEY CLAIM IT WILL NOT CATCH ON FIRE. HOPEFULLY IT WON'T. SO FAR WITH THE TESTING, THE OIL IS DOWN 1 QUART EVERY 1000 MILES, THE ENGINE ONLY HOLDS ABT. 5 1/4 QUARTS OF OIL. THE MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDS OIL CHANGE EVERY 7500 MILES. THE SERVICE TECH SAID THEY ARE HAVING EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEMS WITH THE 2.0 AND 2.4 ENGINES, I HAVE A 2.4 ENGINE. THIS VEHICLE IS SCARY, I FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING IT, IT MAY CATCH ON FIRE. SERVICE TECH TOLD ME IT WILL TAKE A TOTAL OF 4 SEALED DIPSTICK TESTING, I HAVE TWO MORE TO GO.
MY PANORAMIC SUNROOF EXPLODED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. NO IMPACT; I SAW NOTHING, WITNESSES BEHIND ME SAY NOTHING HIT ME, I WASN'T UNDER AN OVERPASS, I WASN'T FOLLOWING ANYONE CLOSELY. DRIVING STRAIGHT AT ABOUT 75MPH.

I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP DEC 09 2019 (MILEAGE 56176) AS INSTRUCTED BY SERVICE TECH IN ORDER FOR THEM TO CHECK REASON THIS VEHICLE IS USING A LOT OF OIL IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. SERVICE TECH CHECKED OIL AND FOUND OIL WAS DOWN 1.25 QTS. SERVICE TECH OPENED TECH LINE CASE AND SENT PICTURES TO KIA. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO RETURN TO DEALERSHIP TO RECHECK OIL LEVEL IN 1000 MILES. TODAY, DEC. 30 2019, (MILEAGE 57231) I RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP. OIL WAS DOWN 1 QT. AFTER 1055 MILES. IF YOU DO THE MATH, ENGINE ONLY HOLDS 5.5 QUARTS OF OIL, IF I GO THE ENTIRE 7500 MILES IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGE(AS PER OWNER MANUAL) I WOULD BE OUT OF OIL.SERVICE TECH ADDED 1 QT. OIL AND PUT IN A SEALED DIPSTICK SO I CANNOT CHECK OIL LEVEL. HOW AM I TO KNOW OIL LEVEL? I PARK VEHICLE IN MY GARAGE. WHEN I QUESTIONED TECH ABOUT THIS HE SAID IT WAS ON KIA'S LIABILITY IF SOMETHING WERE TO HAPPEN. I WOULD KNOW WHEN THE ENGINE IS OUT OF OIL, THE ENGINE WILL START KNOCKING, AND HE MADE THE KNOCKING SOUND ON THE COUNTER. THAT IS REALLY HELPING MY HUSBAND AND I COMFORT LEVEL, IF SOMEONE GETS HURT OR KILLED, WHAT DOES IT MATTER? THERE ARE OTHER PEOPLE ON THE ROADS THAT COULD BE INJURED OR KILLED IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO MY VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE COULD CATCH ON FIRE, CAUSE INJURIES OR DEATH TO US AND / OR OTHERS. SERVICE TECH WOULD NOT SAY WHAT KIA IS DOING ABOUT THIS MATTER WHEN I ASKED HIM. HE JUST SAID KIA IS LOOKING INTO IT. HE GAVE MY HUSBAND AND I THE IMPRESSION HE KNOWS WHAT IS GOING ON, HE SAID HE WAS NOT AT LIBERTY TO DISCUSS ANY FURTHER. THE SERVICE TECH ALSO STATED THAT IT IS UP TO THE OWNERS TO CHECK THEIR OWN OIL LEVELS. NOW I CANNOT CHECK THE OIL LEVEL, IT HAS A SEALED DIPSTICK. HE IS CONTRADICTING HIMSELF, MAKE NO SENSE.
1 WEEK AFTER PURCHASING MY 2017 KIA SORENTO FE AWD FROM ROCHESTER TOM KADLEC KIA IN AUGUST 2019, I WENT TO USE MY CRUISE CONTROL AND IT WOULDN'T SET. "CRUISE" CAME ON, BUT COULD NOT BE SET TO MY SPEED. ISSUE HAPPENED AROUND 1-2 TIMES A WEEK ON 45 MILE COMMUTE ON HIGHWAY. LATER ON ABOUT A MONTH LATER, I SET MY CRUISE CONTROL AND ONCE SET, THE SPEED BEGAN TO CLIMB. STARTING AT 65, AND GOING UP TO 70 BEFORE I HAD TO USE MY BRAKES TO TURN CRUISE CONTROL OFF AS THE BUTTONS DIDN'T WORK. ON DEC 16TH, MY CAR SHOWED A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THEN STALLED AFTER PUTTING IT INTO DRIVE FROM REVERSE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, THEN BACK ON AND DROVE "NORMALLY". TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP SAME DAY FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY READ THE CODES, "P2106, P2110, P063 LIMP MODE AND THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL RANGE" THEY ALSO NOTED MY VEHICLE HAS A TIMING COVER GASKET AND OIL PAN GASKET LEAK, AND MY BATTERY TESTED AT 12.39VOLTS AND 339CCA OUT OF 640CCA. RECOMMENDED BATTERY REPLACEMENT. MY SHOP ASKED ME TO CHECK THE DEALERSHIP FOR MY WARRANTY, AND IT'S 5 YEARS OR 60,000 MILES. I CAME INTO THE SHOP AT 62,334 MILES. THE KIA DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO LOOK INTO THE ISSUE UNLESS I PAID 160 FOR THEIR OWN INSPECTION, AND EVEN THEN, IT'D BE HIGHLY UNLIKELY THEY WOULD DO ANY GOODWILL REPAIR. REPLACED BATTERY 12/26/19 AFTER MULTIPLE FAILURES AND JUMPS TO START, AND FINALLY WOULDN'T TAKE A CHARGE OR JUMP.

8/19/19 I HAD A SCHEDULED OIL / FILTER CHANGE AT DEALERSHIP,MILEAGE 50280. 10/11/19 I CHECKED MY OIL AND THERE WAS NO OIL ON THE OIL DIPSTICK. THERE WERE NO LEAKS, NO OIL ON GARAGE FLOOR, NO OIL WARNING LIGHT. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP SAME DAY, 10/11/19, I THOUGHT MAYBE THE TECH DID NOT PUT CORRECT AMOUNT OF OIL, I ONLY HAD AN ADDTL. 2700 MILES AND WAS NOT SCHEDULED FOR AN OIL CHANGE YET. ONE OF THE TECHS PUT ABOUT 1 1/2 - 2 QUARTS OF OIL IN IT AND TOLD ME TO KEEP AN EYE ON IT. SATURDAY, 12/07/19, IT HAPPENED AGAIN,NO OIL WAS SHOWING ON THE DIPSTICK. I WAS GOING TO HAVE DEALERSHIP DO THE OIL CHANGE, I WAS CLOSE TO THE MILEAGE TO GET ONE, BUT NOT QUITE, BUT INSTEAD OF DEALERSHIP DOING OIL CHANGE, HE SAID TO BRING IT BACK MONDAY 12/09/19 TO HAVE A 'TECH LINE' OPENED. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS 2017 KIA SORENTO AND IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY.
MY HIGH BEAMS DON'T WANT TO TURN ON AND WHEN THEY DO THE ONLY WAY TO GET THEM OFF IS TO TURN MY LIGHTS ALL THE WAY OFF AND BACK ON. IF YOU PULL THE BAR TOWARDS YOU TO BRIEFLY LOOK AT SOMETHING, THE HIGH BEAMS WILL NOT COME ON. ALSO MY CAR IS IN THE SHOP, IT KEEPS KICKING BACK WHEN I GO TO STOP. THEY SAY NOTHING IS WRONG WITH MY HIGH BEAMS OR MY BRAKES, THEY SAY EVERYTHING IS FINE.

BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2018 MARCH I HAVE A 2017 SORENTO. HAVE DONE REGULAR 5000 OIL CHANGES. KIA SAID IT WAS SLUDGE IN ENGINE, HOWEVER THERE ARE METAL SHAVING INSIDE THE THE OIL AND SLUDGE CAUSED BY CRANK SHAFT. AS OF NOW NO RECALL. OUT OF WARRANTY BY 5000 MILES. CURRENT SITUATION WAITING FOR "GOOD FAITH" HELP APPEAL. WAS DENIED STATING NOT MAINTAINING OIL CHANGES. GOT PROOF PROVIDED TO SERVICE DEPT AND WAITING FOR DECISION. THIS COULD HAVE GONE REAL WRONG. NO ENGINE WARNING LIGHT NO OIL LIGHTS EVER CAME ON. THANKFUL I WAS NOT DRIVING ON HIGHWAY( WITH BABY )AND ENGINE COULD HAVE SHUT DOWN. I HEARD KNOCKING AND TOOK IT DIRECTLY TO KIA.THEY KIA SERVICE DEPT ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE SO I LEFT IT THERE. I HAVE A RENTAL AND ITS BEEN A WEEK TODAY. STILL WAITING FOR ANSWER. THE WHOLE REASON BUYING THIS KIA WAS FOR A RELIABLE CAR FOR MY FAMILY. IT IS 2 YRS OLD NO REASON ENGINE FAILURE. MY PROBLEMS ARE SIMILIAR TO OTHER REPORTS I HAVE READ SO THERE IS A MAJOR ISSUE WITH KIA MOTORS.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, SUNNY DAY TODAY. I HAD MY 6 MONTH OLD BABY IN HIS CAR SEAT, WHEN I HEARD A HUGE EXPLOSION. AT FIRST I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. I LOOKED UP AND THE SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED. IT SOUNDED LIKE WHEN GLASS IS PUT INTO A FIRE THEN EXPLODES. MY SON WAS COVERED IN TINY PIECES OF GLASS. I LOOKED ONLINE AND DISCOVERED THIS HAS HAPPEN TO AROUND 150 OTHER DRIVERS SINCE 2012, BUT KIA HAS ISSUED NO RECALL OR WARNED ITS DRIVERS. THE EXPLOSION ALONE WAS ENOUGH TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, AND MY SON COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. I HOPE KIA WILL TAKE RESPONSIBILITY SO NOTHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS TO ANYONE ELSE.

I CRANKED MY CAR, PUT IT IN DRIVE, AND STARTED TO PULL OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY WHEN MY CAR SHOOK AND STALLED. ALL OF MY LIGHTS CAME ON. I THEN TRIED TO RESTART MY CAR BUT IT CONTINUED TO CRANK OVER WITHOUT STARTING. I GAVE IT A MINUTE AND TRIED IT AGAIN. THE CAR STARTED, I DROVE AWAY, STOPPED AT THE STOP SIGN, AND THE CAR STALLED AGAIN. I CRANKED THE CAR AGAIN, PUT IT IN REVERSE, IT CHUGGED BACKWARDS, AND THEN STALLED ONCE I GOT BACK INTO MY DRIVEWAY. I LET IT SIT FOR 5 MINUTES, CRANKED IT AGAIN, THEN IT WAS FINE.

I'M REPORTING ON A SUNROOF THAT EXPLODED WITHOUT ANY APPARENT REASON. ON DECEMBER 29, 2017, MY WIFE AND I WERE RETURNING HOME FROM A TRIP IN OUR 2017 KIA SORENTO. (MILEAGE AT TIME OF INCIDENT WAS ABOUT 16,080) IT WAS PURCHASED NEW IN DECEMBER 2016. THE TIME WAS AROUND 10 AM, IT WAS RAINING AND ABOUT 37. THE HIGHWAY WAS BARE AND WET AND IN GOOD CONDITION ' NO POTHOLES OR ANYTHING OF THAT NATURE. WE WERE TRAVELING NORTH ON HIGHWAY 95 JUST NORTH OF LEWISTON, ID. THE POSTED SPEED IS 65 MPH AND THAT WAS THE SPEED I WAS TRAVELING. THERE WERE NO CARS WITHIN AT LEAST A HALF MILE IN FRONT OF US. THERE WERE NO CARS IN THE OPPOSITE LANES. THE UPHILL LANE WE WERE TRAVELING IN IS ACROSS FROM THE HILLSIDE WHICH IS ACROSS THE HIGHWAY TO THE WEST. THE HIGHWAY IS FOUR LANES WITH A MEDIAN AND JERSEY BARRIER. TO THE EAST OF THE LANE WE WERE TRAVELING IN, THE TERRAIN IS HILLY BUT NOT STEEP AND DOES NOT HANG ABOVE THE ROAD. (THIS IS TO ESTABLISH THAT THERE WERE NO AREAS WHERE A ROCK COULD RANDOMLY FALL OFF A HILLSIDE, BOUNCE UP AND FALL ONTO THE SUNROOF PANEL.) AT ABOUT 10:05, THERE WAS A TREMENDOUS NOISE AND INSTANTLY THERE WAS AN INITIAL RUSH OF AIR OUT OF THE CAR AFTER WHICH SOME BITS OF GLASS SHARDS CAME DOWN ON US. I COULD HEAR LARGE CHUNKS OF GLASS MOVING ALONG THE ROOF TOP TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND THE NOISE OF A SUDDENLY OPEN TOP. THE LINER WAS OPEN SO THERE WAS NO PROTECTION FROM THE GLASS OR THE ELEMENTS. I PULLED OVER AS SOON AS I SAFELY COULD TO INSPECT THE DAMAGE. I CLOSED THE LINER TO KEEP THE RAIN OUT, GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND STOOD ON THE DOOR JAMB TO GET A CLOSER LOOK. THE GLASS WAS POOCHED UP AROUND THE HOLE WHICH WAS ABOUT 2 FEET IN DIAMETER IN THE CENTER OF THE PANE. (THE PANE THAT SHATTERED WAS THE ONE THAT RETRACTS AND IS RIGHT ABOVE THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS.) WE LOOKED AROUND FOR GLASS AND THERE WERE JUST TINY BITS IN THE FRONT AREA.

WE CLOSED THE FABRIC ROOF COVER SO THE GLASS WOULDN'T FALL ON US. KIA TACOMA SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRENTEE. THEY REPLACED THE SUNROOF SO WE COULD CONTINUE OUR TRIP TO ARIZONA. THE COST WAS $944 US. WE CONTACTED KIA CANADA WHO HAVE OPENED A CLAIM BUT WE DON'T KNOW IF WE WILL BE REIMBURSED. THIS PROBLEM HAS EXISTED FOR SEVERAL YEARS. I HOPE PEOPLE WILL REPORT IT TO YOU SO THAT YOU CAN INSIST ON A BETTER QUALITY FOR SAFE SUNROOFS.
