On 12/ 22/ 2025 I went to start the 2012 KIA Soul and it would act like it would start but, it would not turn over. Battery was fine checked it. Let it set a moment and tried it again would not start. Called a wrecker and towed it in. The service guy tried and couldn't get it to start either. He ran a diagnostic on it, there were not type of codes, no check engine light nothing. He had it for until 1/5/2026 and when they went to check it it started right up. They drove it for 20 miles to check to see if it would cut off while driving, it didn't. It starts now but for how long. Here's the strange thing, I drove it 20 minutes away and I noticed that the counter for when You fill up with gas states how many miles you have left to go before fill up was counting UP not DOWN. So I think it could be the computer or electrical, I thought it was the fuel pump at first. Still no warning signals nothing.

I bought the car 2 yrs ago come April and it's had nothing but issues. I've had one recall did which was the knock sensor however now the check engine is on and it's smelling like rubber my brakes are wearing like an eraser and my engine just feels sluggish. The code is p0420 which from what I understand is a catlic converter and I read online there is a recall for that with kia . I've spent a lot more than what I paid for the car not even 2 yrs ago and every place i take it has a new opinion and none of those have any connections with the code so I need help

Was stalling, would loose power, now will not start. Found a recall ( engine and engine cooling: exhaust system: emission control: catalytic converter # 19v120000.) same problems. Towed to local kia, they say not under recall list. This recall is only for engine size 1.6. My engine is a 2.0. But they said catalytic converter needs replaced. Although car is aged only has about 55,000 miles. Catalytic converter should not be an issue. I believe the 2.0 engine needs to be added to the recall list.

Took car in for recall SC176 and was told by Taylor Kia in Lima, Oh that what was happ wasn't throwing a code. Said they fixed the knock sensor and that if it is that problem it would go off and they could check it again. My car ran worse than before getting it back. What is happening to my engine is exactly what is detailed in the recall. I drove home 35 minutes shacking and knocking the whole time and no engine light? You can hear the rod knocking in my engine. Exactly how it is explained in the recall. So, now I'm stuck with an engine that going to be ruined when the rod does flys out. Hopefully not harming me or anyone else. This is ludicrous and poor work done.

To Whom It May Concern, I need a Recall Letter send to me to get my 2012 Kia Soul repaired. My Catalytic Converter needs to be replace, and my engine is leaking oil and that will need to be replace, and the Pillars on the front of my car, on the right & left side, needs to be replace, they flew off my car while I was driving on [XXX]. I looked up the information on the computer, that the vehicle emission warranty extends beyond the manufacturer's. along with others emission control devices, Federal Law requires to replace a defective Catalytic Converter & Engine for up to 15 years or 150,000 miles, the miles on my car is 128, 684. I took my vehicle to get check by Brake World , on [XXX] they said I needed a CRankshaft Position Sensor & a new Catalytic Converter. I have the printed out receipt from Brake World. I did get my Crankshaft Position Sensor replace with a shop call ECONOMICAL AUTO CARE LLC. Do I get a refund for that, the price was 182.73, I got it done on [XXX}, I do have my receipt for that. I did take my vehicle to Kia Auto on 735 South Military Trial #C, West Palm Beach, Fl 33415, on [XXX]. I had a Recall Letter for the HECU, and the Dealer Al told me I needed my Catalytic Converter replace, but he did not put it on the receipt when I pick my car up & he did not let me know it was a recall on it, until I looked it up. My car was making a loud knocking noise & would cut off when I stopped at a red light and I had to keep on starting my car up every time and my vehicle would jerked and shake and the Engine Light comes on. So when I got the Catalytic Converter Sensor on it, the loud knocking noise stop, but the Engine Light stills comes on. But I still needs the Catalytic Converter replace on my car. So Please send me the Recall Letters for I can get my vehicle completed. Thank you & God Bless. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I got the recall SC284AM - HECU FUSE REPLACEMENT Done. As soon as I started the engine at the Kia dealer thick smoke started coming out of the exhaust pipe. When I showed it to the dealer they said it has nothing to do with the fuse replacement. The car was perfectly fine before the fuse was replaced. To check out the reason for this the dealer is asking $300. It’s definitely the result of the fuse replacement. Need help.

Vehicle first started to have issue with the blower motor relay, unknowingly at the time, that was the issue I had brought it to numerous mechanics, told it’s my blower motor itself, then took it to Kia and was told it’s not and they put my old one back in and didn’t solve any issue, on my way home my check engine light came on, driving on the HWY at 70mph. I get off on my exit slow down to the speed of 40Mph stop at the red light and then my vehicle starts to stall, refused to go faster then 40mph and was fighting it, at 7rpms. Local shop said it was some sort of sensor, had another mechanic look at it and found that KIA hadn’t put my Cars Computer back on my vehicle, so it was just flapping around, once he reconnected it the issue disappeared. Following this I have had a ticking engine for 2/3 years. Local mechanic said it was my Engine lifters, so we replaced all 18. The noise never stopped. I brought it back and was told I need a replacement engine the long block specifically, I couldn’t afford to replace it, years later it’s still making this noise at start up, in idel and when driving and becomes louder when I accelerate. I have had a hard time getting my vehicle to accelerate to HWY speeds at an efficient and safe level, having to use hazard lights. My car has had a gas fuel leak, repaired. I had to get a rental car. The blower motor relay has to be replaced every 3/4 months since it failed the first time years ago in order for my AC/heat to work, I’m a single mother, who is disabled with a special needs child, and a very low fixed income, this is a major safety concern on top of the HECU recall, I have asked for a buy back or a refund or replacement vehicle and have been denied, or at least reimbursement for the costs associated. Kia is negligent and obviously doesn’t seem to care whatsoever about their customers or their safety. If I could afford it I would sue them. Fire hazard, engine fire, stalling, ect.

I was driving and my check engine code went on , I got it checked by autozone and it was for the catalytic converter. My car has since ran horribly, there feels like a lag in acceleration and it makes a hissing/air noise that comes from the catalytic converter it gets overheated and causes my car to go in limp mode and when I asked a mechanic friend they said it’s very clogged which has caused me to park my car and not drive it because I was recommended to not drive it being in this condition then I was send a recall in email. It has one owner and we have kept up with maintenance very well.

Apr 12, 2024

So I purchased a 2012 Kia Soul A few months ago and since I got it the car has been having issues with accelerating the car delays to respond and I have had many closed calls specifically when entering a freeway the car losses power and I have to really press on the pedal for the vehicle to respond then the check engine light started to come on showing Code P0420 Catalyst operating below minimum threshold. I looked up online and all Kia souls starting from 2012 have a recall regarding the Catalyst converter and because of the issue my vehicle is having a weird rattling or knocking sound on the engine I looked up online and this is what I found Kia Motors America (Kia) is voluntarily recalling 2012–2016 Kia Soul vehicles with 1.6L Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engines due to high exhaust gas temperatures that may damage the catalytic converter. This could cause abnormal engine combustion, damage to pistons, and possibly failed piston connecting rod. Recall consequence Piston damage may result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash. A broken connecting rod may puncture the engine block allowing engine oil to escape. The leaking oil may contact the exhaust, increasing the risk of a fire. So at this point I’m not felling safe driving this vehicle anymore and I need my vehicle because I need it for work and to move my family around and the worst thing is that all this is cutting back on my income because I purchased this car for Uber & Lyft rides but I can’t do it I wouldn’t want to put other peoples life in danger knowing that the vehicle isn’t responding like it’s supposed to so please I need assistance or guidance on what to do to get this situation resolved as soon as possible because I wasted all muy funds purchasing this vehicle and at this point I can’t afford to pay someone to make any repairs my own vehicle pls don’t disregard my situation I’m out of options at this point thank you and have a great day Date 04-11-24 Sincerely [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF IN

Despite being assured for years by KIA that my vehicle was not affected by this recall, I received a recall notice in DECEMBER 2023 for the HECU. Now it is April, and my vehicle still is not repaired because KIA STILL has not supplied the part required to fix this safety issue. Because of the high theft issue of my vehicle, I cannot park it outside and KIA is now telling me I cannot park the vehicle inside because of fire hazard. I have had to pay a higher insurance premium just to keep my car insured and have even been denied insurance by Farmers and Progressive. I am afraid to drive my car and how am I supposed to afford another car? Some dealers will not even consider the car as a trade in.

I took my car to a local place to get the oil changed. The person would not touch anything with my car until I had it looked at by someone at the local Kia location. There was a knocking sound, which seems to get worse when accelerating, or going up hill. I get it to the local Kia location, and they take a look at it, said it was out of warranty, the engine was about to go out, and there was nothing they could do. They also stated, they were surprised that the engine hadn't already gone yet.

I have contacted KIA Corp. and advised them that my 2012 KIA Soul ! with 146,500 miles was consuming so much oil that the KIA dealership had to replace my engine for $5000 and that I had to pay it. Why won't KIA Corp reimburse me? It is under 150,000 miles. They advise me that they would pay a Good Will fee to me and never did !!! The KIA dealership always did my oil changes on time and have records of them. KIA Corp should reimburse me for a GOOD WILL FEE.

I was driving at night down a major highway when the car stopped dead. I towed it to a repair shop and they told me that the engine was completely gone. They informed me that there was a class actions case on Kias due to engine failure. I need my Kia to have the engine replaced and covered under this situation as it totally does not work anymore and from what I am told it is a catastrophic occurrence happening to many, many Kias. Who can I contact about getting this fixed?

DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT A SPEED OF 65MPH AND MY CAR JUST BEGAN TO IDLE AND SLOWED DOWN TO REDUCING SPEED QUICKLY. I COULD NOT GIVE IT ENOUGH ACCELERATION TO PICK UP SPEED. I PULLED OVER TO SHUT MY ENGINE CAR OFF. TURNED CAR BACK ON AND MY RPMS TO SHIFT TO 2ND GEAR WERE LOW. I HAD TO SHIFT MY GEARS QUICKLY TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE. SINCE THEN, MY ENGINE LIGHT IS BLINKING AND I CANNOT GO FASTER THAN 50MPH

My 2012 Kia soul base, had this SC176 recall which I took it into the dealer, at that time I really didn't know exactly what the recall consisted of, until months later after researching the performance of my car, my engine lights comes on and stays on for two weeks ,then go off a day and it's back on, my car drives sluggish and it's acceleration power is bad , where it won't get up to necessary speed, and it making a loud noises when I accelerate ,which the mechanic said it's my Cadillac converter which was under recall and most likely damaged , from high exhaust gas temperatures,I do believe it's all under the last recall, my engine was damaged and should of been replaced along with the catalytic converter, I believe the KIA dealership knew of the damages but didn't replace my catalytic converter or my engine, my cars performance has gone down tremendously , month by month because of this recall that didn't work , I loved my car but sometimes I don't feel excited about cranking it up and driving it away from my house, because I'm not sure if I'm going to make it back home safe or maybe have it towed, I'm depending on Kia to do the right thing and fix this recall ,because I could be a returning customer.

The car experienced a sudden catastrophic engine failure. We had just pulled out of the driveway and were on our residential street, so there was no accident, we were able to pull over and stop the vehicle without incident. It was towed to the Kia dealer (Premier Kia of Carlsbad 5331 Paseo Del Norte, Carlsbad, CA 92008). After detailed inspection by one of their service technicians they determined that the cause of the engine failure was the same connecting rod bearing failure that other years/classes of Kia Soul have experienced. The dealer initiated a claim with Kia to try to get the extended warranty and engine replacement covered for my vehicle since it was exactly the same issue they have seen with the vehicles covered in the legal settlement (Techline case #15756680). However, Kia has denied responsibility for what is clearly a defect in the engine affecting other Kia owners not currently being reimbursed for their loss by previous recalls and legal settlements.

Engine seizure, stalling, engine turns off without any warning. When taken to dealership or mechanic there is no error code for the issue.

My car stalls and the engine light frequently stays on, my car is driving sluggish every since I got the recall adjustment my car has declined in performance and the engine light started coming on more frequently up until now, it's loud at and experiencing a great lost of power ,the computer is giving the code PO420 reading as bank 1 oxygen sensor , I had intended changing out both sensors, but wasn't sure if it's a damaged engine effecting the Cadillac converter from the 2019 recall, # 19V120000 giving a false reading.

Jun 5, 2023 Fire

While driving down the freeway, the engine began to smoke and caught fire. My husband and kids were in the car but were fortunately able to pull over without physical injuries. Our insurance company held the car and a third party company (hired by Kia) concluded “ the origin of the fire is in the engine compartment at the exhaust manifold. The cause of the fire is internal engine failure resulting in a hole in the block allowing oil to escape and ignite on contact with heated exhaust components”. There were no warnings, check engine light, etc. Kia pointed us towards a class action lawsuit but when you search our VIN # on Kia’s website, there’s are no recalls or issues reported, which is clearly false. Our family escaped serious injury/death but it could have easily been a different story. I will not stay silent and let this happen to other families. I am going to continue to advocate for my family until Kia listens.

2012 Kia Soul 4dr wagon engine fail no warning lights sudden strange noise driving on highway with grandbabies. Heard a strange noise under hood then the vehicle lost acceleration and right before shutting down and dying the oil light came on and car went dead. No warning to any problem. Had the oil changed and double checked new oil was replaced. When I opened the hood and checked the oil their was no oil in vehicle it was as if it was drained out yet have no oil leaks to show it leaked out. If the oil disappears and no warning lights show no oil and car just dies on highway that is engine failure and burning up engine leading to fires and danger to drivers and passengers. 2012 Kia Soul 75,262 miles well maintained should not just be driving along engine malfunction and die and oil has disappeared. Let alone possibility needing new engine. Very scary and not safe to drive as the vehicle immediately dies on busy highway so by given no warning till last second the drivers behind me had no warning and luckily no accident was caused but possible it could be a serious problem. Apparently other people are having same engine issue reading online forum that several incidents missing oil and engine failure with little or no warning but hearing strange noise and engine shutting down and oil missing.

The contact owns a 2012 Kia Soul. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact retrieved DTC code: P0420 (Low catalyst system efficiency) using a handheld diagnostic tool and drove the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The contact reported that he informed the dealer that DTC code: P0420 (Low catalyst system efficiency) was related to the catalytic convertor. The dealer advised that they would replace the catalytic convertor if he paid for the spark plug replacement. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V120000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,951. The contact changed out the spark plugs but was still getting check engine lights for the catalytic converter. The manufacturer denied the contact's request for a rental car. No other assistance has been provided yet.

We were driving and the car just shutdown, luckily at a stop sign. Wouldn't turn back on, and nothing when we tried to jump it. Had it towed to the nearest service center in town and were told a rod punctured the block and the engine is blown. The service center said they had seen this happen before and to contact a Kia dealership to check on a recall. I talked to the Kia dealership in Topeka, KS and they said Kia had been denying requests to replace the engine, if the recall update had not been done. We never received any information about the car having a recall or needing an update, so therefore it was never performed.

Feb 16, 2023

Unknown. Piston rings have blown, oil leaking into muffler.

When the car gets to 60mph it loses power and slows down. No matter how much you press the gas it will not get above 60 and seems to struggle there.

Recall 19V120 received 4-12-19 was addressed by Burlington Kia in May 2019. The COP ECU logic was upgraded. The car was not running well in 2022 - hesitating, misfiring, but it did not throw a code so no one could diagnose the issue. Spark plugs were changed but that did not solve the issue. The check engine light came on in Oct 2022 and the diagnosis was that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. I called the Kia Consumer Assistance number, filed a claim with them, and waited for close to two months for a response. The basis of the claim is that they did not resolve the issue with the COP logic upgrade and the catalytic converter should be replaced, at no cost to us, per the recall notice. The claim was denied by Kia. We ended up replacing the catalytic converter at Burlington Kia, at a cost of $2201.88. We picked up the car, drove it for two days, and it began running rough again, hesitating and stalling. The check engine light came on again. We took it back to Burlington Kia who now diagnosed it as needing new spark plugs which will be another $300 expense. We are waiting for it to be repaired. Our concerns now is that when we pick it up again, it's not just going to be a spark plug issue and the catalytic converter fail, which was never corrected in the recall, will cause engine failure, or worse, an engine fire as there is a similar recall on other Kia models underway now. We are looking for reimbursement from Kia for the catalytic converter fail, per the recall notice and a guarantee that them not replacing the converter with the 2019 recall will not result in engine damage.

It started as a little tapping for about 5 days in the engine compartment when it was running then turned to giant clunking when the gas was pressed as well

1.Excessive Oil consumption - Yes available for inspection. 2. I'm afraid of where the oil could be going in my engine and what that might cause. 3.Went to Kia and showed proof of oil consumption, employee seemed familiar with the engine problem but I was told there is no recall on this and I should trade the car in. "just not here." he said. 4. Only after 1,500 miles my oil lamp flashed on.

Catalytic converter is clogged, car is stalling and engine is damaged which leads me to believe that like the other recalls on this model of vehicle may be also happening to this one, Almost got into an accident due to the stalling. Piston damage may result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash. A broken connecting rod may puncture the engine block allowing engine oil to escape. The leaking oil may contact the exhaust, increasing the risk of a fire. Kia recall number is SC176

Nov 29, 2022

Oil plug loosened and fell out resulting in engine failure.

Recall 19V120 was received on 4-12-19 for our 2012 Kia Soul. We had the COP ECU logic taken care of at our dealer on 5-21-19, per the recall notice instructions. In October 2022 we took the car back to the dealer when it threw a code and began losing power at certain speeds. Kia diagnosed it as needing a new catalytic converter. We contacted the Consumer Assistance Center at Kia to file a complaint as the recall notice clearly states that Kia will replace the catalytic converter and/or engine as part of this recall if applicable. We've had claim number 15122079 opened with Kia for resolution for over a month and cannot get this resolved. We keep being advised it's still under review after waiting on hold for over an hour each time. Called today (11-28-22) and advised the representative that we need an answer today and I've been on hold for over 2 hours. We are looking for Kia to replace the catalytic converter/engine (if damaged) free of charge to us as a result of this recall. It's apparent that the COP ECU logic upgrade did not prevent the catalytic converter failure and other Kia owners may be experiencing the same issue now.

I had my Kia in the shop for 2 months from August 22, 2022 until about the middle of October because it went into limp mode and they were waiting on Kia consumer to ok a new engine because the dealership heard a knock. I was originally told my Kia had a lifetime warranty on the motor but when it went into limp mode with 156.044 miles on it they then said 150,000 mile warranty so I had to pay out of pocket to have the part fixed. I’ve have my car back less than a month haven’t even put a 1,000 miles on it and it’s went right back into limp mode in the middle of a four lane. Almost got rear ended because the speed bogged down to below 45mph. It’s throwing the same code as it didn’t previously.

While driving in traffic, the engine began making a clicking sound and the vehicle lost power. I was barely able to coast out of the traffic lane onto the shoulder. The vehicle is available for inspection. My safety and that of other drivers was put at risk since the vehicle lost acceleration while I was driving in traffic. The problem was confirmed by the dealer. The dealer charged me for a diagnostic analysis to confirm the problem. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to the loss of power.

"play" and clicking noises in steering wheel have increasingly gotten much worse and noisier, clicking and clunking on turns. I feel like any moment my steering is going to go out and I am going to put everyone in my car and around me at risk. Called dealership and they said it is a common problem which I researched and found that the coupler in steering wheel fails. Kia used the same part in presvious years same model and even years afterward and those years were recalled but not my year. Makes no sense. The next issue was I was driving on the highway at 70 and all of a sudden lost power and car would not accelerate beyond a speed of 45 mph. Black smoke came out of my tail pipe and I limped home at 20 mph. Mo engine warning lights but I could smell something was hit like melted plastic. After letting the car sit a couple hours, I started it and it sounds like there is a hole in the exhaust all of a sudden. There lots of black ish grey soot under my car as if a balloon burst with soot in it from underneath the car somewhere. I called the dealer and described the issue and all they did was look up my vin and tell me there is no recall and that I must have gotten bad gas somewhere.

Oct 3, 2022

Car started ticking, small repair shop told me it was engine lifters, I paid $2000 to replace them. After replacing the engine lifters the mechanic said it would be quite and stop making the ticking noise on idle and acceleration. However 5 months later it was still ticking, low power, brought it back in and they said I need to replace the engine lock block. This mechanical defect is a recall on my vehicles make model and year however it’s VIN is not under the recall. Car will stall, doesn’t want to accelerate quickly, will shake, and tap, or tick noise from the engine at start, and the entire time car is running, th ticking increases when I accelerate.

When I first Bought my Kia the dealership told me they changed the battery because the car had trouble starting. A month goes by and my car had trouble starting again. I took It back to the dealership and they told me nothing was wrong with it and they needed a check engine light to fix something. Another month went by and my car was still having problems. I called The dealer ship and I told Them I thought It was my crankshaft position sensor and they told me they would look at it again. When I took It in they said nothing was wrong. Another month went by and still problems starting. I was At a red light and all of the sudden my car turned off. Once I got It to start the check engine light was on. I went And checked what the code was and believe it or not it was the crankshaft position sensor. I am Not the only one who has had this replaced on this car.

Sound coming from the engine check engine light on , I took the car to the Kia dealership and they refuse to fix it even with that recall SC176 , thank you

Oct 28, 2021

Approximately six months ago, my check engine light came on and I took my car to a local mechanic. He said that I needed an oil change and my oil level seemed a bit low even though it wasn’t at the 5000 mile mark yet, so I should keep an eye on oil consumption. Around 3500 miles after this oil change, my check engine light came on again. I took my car back to the mechanic at Midas and he informed me that my car was consuming oil due to faulty seals around the pistons, and I would need to make a warranty claim to KIA. The dealership immediately knew what the issue was and agreed to make an appointment to replace the engine, but called back and informed me I needed to do an oil consumption test and would have to pay for an additional oil change from the dealership. I agreed and after driving 1000 miles I brought my car back. The dealership confirms it is burning over a quart of oil every 1000 miles, but now they claim the engine will not be covered unless it seizes up while I am driving. Their suggestion is I replace the engine on my own dime or put more oil in every few thousand miles until it seizes and causes a potentially fatal accident. As I have been researching online, I have found several people with similar issues, and many who’s cars HAVE seized while they were driving highway speeds. It seems as though KIA’s plan to keep costs low is to hope anyone with an engine claim dies in the crash when it inevitably seizes up. Burning over a quart of oil every 1000 miles and suggesting I pump more oil in to get burned up is hardly environmentally friendly or healthy for the air we breathe. There should be a recall for Kia engines because this is obviously a widespread and well known issue, but for some reason KIA was allowed to get away with recalling a fraction of the cars they should and letting the rest of us risk our lives waiting for our engine to seize up going 75MPH!

Oct 25, 2021

While attempting to accelerate on the interstate (around 70 mph), the engine began to knock. No warning lights were illuminated. Took the vehicle to a local automotive repair and was informed that it had completely burned through the oil and the engine would need to be replaced. The technician advised that there is a technical service bulletin out for the issue in question as it relates to excessive oil consumption for affected vehicles. The engine could have failed at any point and we were advised it was unsafe to drive. As stated earlier, there were no warning lights and no reason to believe anything was wrong with the car prior to this incident as it has had routine oil changes and maintenance. The problem was detected at a Tires Plus location but the car is being towed to the dealer to confirm the issue this week. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone else.

Oct 12, 2021 Fire

The rod punctured the engine block and caused a fire around the fuel pump area. Signs on the positive battery terminal of jumping backwards. Kia believes the cause of the fire was the engine falling apart. I had been travelling free of worry when I heard a high whirring sound then a bang coming from the engine. I pulled over immediately and upon opening the hood discovered a fire. Good samaritans pulled over and put the fire out, there were 3 females in my car who could've burned alive had the others not stopped. The car needed a new engine at the cost of $7,404.08 I sold this car to Carvana and am waiting for Kia to get their act together and refund the cost of potentially killing 3 people. I have all paperwork from Kia regarding the incident.

Engine failure on 2012 Kia Soul GDI engine on June 21, 2021. Crankshaft had been replaced last year by a Kia dealership under TSB PO335, for which I was charged $427.29. I had never been advised of any potential problems with this vehicle's engine nor advised of any alternative measures to prevent the loss. Engine failed in heavy traffic. Triple AAA mechanic gave a diagnosis of engine failure and suggested engine replacement. No one has inspected the vehicle other than the AAA mechanic in Asheville, NC. No warning lamps came on to indicate a problem.

I purchased the 2012 Kia Soul on 12-18-20 and I had vehicle less than a week and it was losing power so I parked it until I could get it looked at on approx 02-03-21 the engine was disassembled by mechanic and found catalytic converter stopped up and piston failure after that time I found out about recall we contacted Kia about issue and was told they would not look at it because it is not driveable to take to Kia and they would not honor recall because cop ecu was not updated well engine already failed so we couldn't drive it there and recall said they would inspect vehicle and repair up to changing engine if necessary but they wouldn't even look at this one because engine had already failed and my vin number is under recall. I don't think this is right.

I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER THAT WAS DATED ON APRIL 6,2021 FROM KIA THAT MY CAR NEEDED TO COME IN FOR UPDATE TO THE ENGINE TO PROTECT FROM EXCESSIVE ROD BEARING DAMAGE. UPON GETTING THE CAR FROM THE COLLEGE CAMPUS AND ON THE WAY TO BRING IT BACK INTO THE AREA TO GET THE WORK DONE, IT BLEW THE ENGINE. KIA IS NOW STATING THAT THEY WILL NOT TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM SINCE I WASN'T ABLE TO GET THE CAR THERE TO HAVE THE WORK DONE BEFORE THE DAMAGE HAPPENED. THE ENGINE BLEW ON MAY 1,2021 LESS THAN A MONTH AFTER THEIR LETTER WAS DRAFTED. THIS IS A CAR THAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN DEALER MAINTAINED AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN KEPT UP ON ITS REPAIRS. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY DIDN'T EVEN LOOK INTO THE HISTORY OF THE CAR AND JUST SAID THAT IT WAS MY FAULT FOR NOT MAKING IT IN TO THE SHOP, EVEN THROUGH THAT'S WHERE I WAS GETTING IT TO. THEY IN THEIR LETTER STATE THAT HAD I BEEN ABLE TO GET THE CAR IN IT WOULD HAVE EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 150,000 MILES, THE CAR ONLY HAS 107,000 ON IT WHEN THIS HAPPENED. EVEN THROUGH THEY SENT A LETTER STATING THAT THEY SOLD ME A CAR WITH FAULTY PARTS NOW THEY WON'T COVER THE DAMAGE. DAMAGE THAT LUCKILY DIDN'T END IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT BUT DID TOTAL MY CAR. THE CAR WAS TRAVELING AT 75 MILES PER HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE ROD BROKE OFF AND WENT THRU THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE.

WITHIN TEN MINUTES OF DRIVING THE CAR, IT STALLS WHEN STOPPED AT LIGHTS, STOP SIGNS, ETC., GEARED IN DRIVE AND LOW IDLE UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. WHEN RESTARTED IT PROCEEDS AT A SLOW CRAWL AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE OR WILL ACCELERATE NORMALLY IN 15 TO 30 SECONDS. HAD OIL, OIL FILTER AND ENGINE AIR FILTER REPLACED BUT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON WHEN IT STALLS. AFTER SIX TIMES OF DYING AND NOT ACCELERATING, IT IS NOW PARKED IN DRIVEWAY AND FEAR IT IS TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THESE INCIDENTS HAPPENED WITHIN ONE WEEK WITH NO PRIOR OPERATION ISSUES. I HAVE READ COUNTLESS COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE FROM OTHER KIA SOUL OWNERS BUT NO RESOLVES, JUST ASTRONOMICAL REPAIR BILLS WITH NO FIXES AND NO HELP FROM KIA, DEALERSHIPS OR THE GOVERNMENT.

ON OR ABOUT JUNE 27, 2013, I HAD ABOUT 58,000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE AND WHILE ON THE FREEWAY I NOTICED A SLIGHT HESITATION AND THEN A LIGHT KNOCKING IN THE ENGINE. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, SO I HAD THE CODE READ AND IT IDICATED THAT THE KNOCK SENSOR WAS BAD. I HAD IT REPLACED AND STILL HAD THE KNOCKING NIOSE AND ENGINE LIGHT ON. HAD THE CODE READ AGAIN AND IT IDICATED THAT IT WAS THE KNOCK SENSOR, SO I REPLACED IT AGAIN. ENGINE LIGHT WENT OUT BUT THE KNOCKING CONTINUED FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. THEN IT STARTED STALLING AT STOPS, ALSO ENGINE WAS RUNNING ODD AND NOT HAVING POWER. ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND THIS TIME THE CODE INDICATED THAT IT WAS THE CRANK SENSOR. I REPLACED IT AND THE ODD RUNNING STOPPED. THE ENGINE STILL STALLS ON OCCASION IT STALLS EVEN WHILE DRIVING. I'VE HAD BOTH RECALLS COMPLETED ON MY VEHICLE, AND WAS TOLD BY: ARAPAHOE KIA, (9701 E ARAPAHOE RD, CENTENNIAL, CO 80112) AFTER THE CATALITIC CONVERTER RECALL WAS COMPLETED, THAT I SHOULD GET THE ENGINE FLUSHED AND IF IT STILL CONTINUED, I HAD TO HAVE ENGINE REPLACED AT MY COST. TO SAY THE LEAST, THAT AFTER 241,436 MILES, IT IS STILL KNOCKING, USING OIL. I THINK THE CATALITIC CONVERTER HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THIS ISSUE, BUT YOU KNOW HOW DEALERSHIPS TREAT CUSTOMERS, LIKE THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING. I HAVE TO PUT OIL IN MY CAR MULTIPLE TIMES EVERY WEEK. A FAMILY MEMBER WHO WORKS FOR KIA BROUGHT OUR ATTENTION TO A RECALL ON THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER THAT CAN CAUSE CONVERTER AND ENGINE DAMAGE DUE TO OVERHEATING. ON JAN 28 2020 I TOOK THE KIA SOUL TO STEVENS KIA IN HARRISONBURG VA FOR THE RECALL. WE EXPLAINED THE ISSUES WE WERE HAVING AND PULLED UP THE INFORMATION ABOUT THE RECALL POSSIBLY CAUSING ENGINE DAMAGE. THEY SAID THEY WERE UNAWARE OF THAT ISSUE AND THAT THEY DON'T BELIEVE IT WOULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO BURN OFF OIL. KIA'S INFORMATION SPECIFICALLY SAYS THAT IT CAN CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO OVERHEAT, BURN OFF OIL, AND ULTIMATELY LEAD TO ENGINE FAILURE. I STILL HAVE TO ADD OIL TO MY VEHICLE MULTIPLE TIMES DURING THE WEEK AS IT IS DAMAGED AND HASN'T BEEN REPAIRED. ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO MY CAR DIED AT A STOPLIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME. ALL ALONG THERE IS NO INDICATOR LIGHTS. THEN DIED WHILE DRIVING 3 DAYS LATER AT 35 MPH. I WENT TO AN AUTO ZONE TO GET A CHECK ON ITS COMPUTER BUT THEY WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING DUE TO THE CORONA VIRUS. DROVE IT A FEW DAYS , IT DIED AGAIN AT THE STOPLIGHT. IT BEGAN TO DO THIS EVERY FEW DAYS .NO INDICATION WHEN IT WOULD SHUT OFF AND NO INDICATOR LIGHTS. I CALLED TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL AND THERE WASN'T, I ALSO CHECKED ONLINE.WHEN IT DIED I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT JUST OFF THE ROAD OR AT BUSY INTERSECTIONS FOR A FEW MINUTES AND KEEP TRYING. THEN AFTER A FEW TIMES I STARTED NOTICING IT WOULD DIE AT THE INTERSECTION AND THEN MY RPM INDICATOR WOULD NOT WORK THEN THE CAR WOULD SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING ,I WOULD FIGHT WITH IT TO START OR IT WOULD START NORMALLY AND EVERYTHING WORKED FOR A WHILE AGAIN. I CALLED THE DEALER MADE AN APPOINTMENT, THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG BUT ONE MECHANIC ASKED WHAT YEAR THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON OTHER VEHICLES..TODAY JUNE 5TH WHEN I WAS STUCK AT AN INTERSECTION I USED MY PHONE TO RECORD THAT IT STARTED AFTER A FEW MINUTES AND THEN WHEN I DROVE IT I HAD TO FLOOR THE GAS AND THE RPM INDICATOR WASN'T WORKING AT ALL. THEN I WAS DRIVING FINALLY GOT IT TO SPEED AND IT DIED IN THE ROAD AT 55 WHILE DRIVING LUCKILY I COASTED OFF THE ROAD .AFTER A MINUTE I TAPED WHERE I WAS, HOW THE CAR WAS PULLED OFF CROOKED AND THEN IT STARTED NORMALLY, NO INDICATOR LIGHTS ,RPM WORKED AND I GOT HOME. THE CAR DEALER SAID HE PROBABLY KNEW WHAT IT WAS DUE TO THE OTHER RECALLS BUT IT WOULD BE EXPENSIVE. I CANNOT AFFORD A REPAIR DON'T WANT TO DIE EITHER. IF OTHER CARS WERE RECALLED MINE NEEDS TO BE. IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE I AM IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE MY CAR JUST DIES WHENEVER IT WANTS TO. ON 2-2-17 I WAS DRIVING ON STATE HIGHWAY EE, WHICH IS A 2 LANE BLACKTOP WHEN MY KIA ENGINE DIED, I COASTED TO A NEARBY DRIVEWAY AND GOT OFF OF THE ROADWAY THE BEST I COULD, A TOW TRUCK HAD TO BE CALLED, AS THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START. THE CATALYSTIC CONVERTER HAD BLOWN APART AND WAS CLOGGING THE EXHAUST.. IN DOING RESEARCH, I SEE THERE IS A RECALL ON THE 1.6 ENGINES, BUT MINE IS A 2.0, WHY ARE THERE NO RECALLS ON THE 2.0 ?

I WAS ON THE WAY OUT OF TOWN WITH MY FAMILY, I WAS TRAVELING ON A DARK COUNTY ROAD AT NIGHT, I WAS DRIVING 70 MILES AND ALL OF A SUDDEN A PIECE FLEW UNDER THE CAR AND OIL STARTED SPRAYING OUT AND MY CAR STARTED SMOKING AND WHEN I PULLED OVER TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED THE CAR WOULD NOT EVEN GO IN NEUTRAL SO THAT I COULD MOVE IT TO THE GRASS. I WAS STRANDED IN A SMALL TOWN ON THE HIGHWAY WITH FAST MOVING VEHICLES AND 18- WHEELERS WITH MY 2 KIDS. IT WAS VERY SCARY IT TOOK THE POLICE 15 MINUTES TO COME OUT. VERY UNSAFE WAITING ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY IN THE DARK. THE CAR WAS INOPERABLE SO I HAD TO LEAVE IT ON SIDE OF THE ROAD.

CAR LOST POWER ON HIGHWAY AND WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS FLASHING. HAD CAR TOWED TO GERALD KIA NORTH AURORA TO HAVE THEM EVALUATE CAR TO SEE IF IT WAS A RESULT OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER RECALL. IN 9/ 2017 DEALERSHIP ADVISED ME THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDED REPLACEMENT WITH A STORED ERROR CODE OF P0420. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO RUSH TO REPLACE THE CONVERTER SINCE IT WAS RELATED TO EMISSIONS. I WAS QUOTED A REPAIR FEE OF $1630. REPLACED CONVERTER IN 4/2018 AND AGAIN IN 3/2019 AT REPUTABLE SHOP. DEALERSHIP IS STATING THE CAR IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE RECALL SINCE I AM "OUT OF WARRANTY". CAR WAS DIAGNOSED WITH P3301 AND P3303 FAILURE. ACCORDING TO RECALL I HAVE A STORED P0420 CODE AND ACTIVE P300X CODES. THEY SHOULD REPLACE THE SHORT BLOCK ACCORDING TO THE RECALL DOCUMENTS. DEALERSHIP IS REFUSING TO ISSUE A TECH LINE AND HONOR RECALL. NOHERE ON THE PAPERWORK DOES IT STATE THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE IN "WARRANTY"- IF THAT WAS THE CASE WHY DID THEY INFORM ME IN 9/2019 THERE WAS A RECALL AND MY COMPUTER SOFTWARE NEEDED TO BE UPDATED.- I WOULD BE OUT OF "WARRANTY" NOWHERE ON THE RECALL PAPERWORK KIA FILED DOES IT STATE THAT ONLY KIA CAN REPLACE A CATALYTIC CONVERTER. VERY FRUSTRATING THAT THE DEALERSHIP IS NOT CONSUMER DRIVEN. I HAVE ESCALATED THIS TO KIA CORPORATE AND AM WAITING FOR THEIR RESPONSE TO SEE IF THEY WILL HONOR THEIR RECALL.

BOUGHT A 2012 KIA SOUL FROM GRAHAM'S DEALERSHIP IN ONTARIO, OHIO IN 2016, I STARTED GETTING A KNOCKING SOUND FROM MY MOTOR ABOUT 7 MONTHS AGO AND TOOK IT IN TO BE LOOKED AT FOR A RECALLAND SAID THERE WAS NO ISSUES AND GAVE ME A TIRE ROTATION AND OIL CHANGE WHICH HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT I ASKED. THE SYSTEMS CONTINUED TO GET WORSE AS I WAS BUYING FOUR QUARTS A WEEK FOR A 1.7 LITER ENGINE SO I GOT IT IN AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE MOTOR WAS BAD ENOUGH FOR THEM TO BELIEVE CONSIDERING IT IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE SOUNDING SO GRAHAM'S CALLS KIA AND THEY SAY THEY'D REPLACE IT WITH A NEW MOTOR (THIS WAS SAID ON 12/11/20). BRIAN AT GRAHAM'S AUTO MALL SAID HE WOULD CALL IN THE MORNING WITH THE DATE FOR IT TO BE REPLACED. I GET THE CALL THE NEXT DAY AND THEY SAID THAT THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOT GOING TO DO THE RECALL EVEN THO I WAS TOLD IT WAS GOING TO BE DONE AND THAN CHANGED THE NEXT DAY. BRIAN SAID THEY'RE WAS BASICALLY NOTHING TO BE DONE WHICH I BELIEVE IS A COMPLETE LIE. I'VE BEEN A LOYAL CUSTOMER PAYING OVER 16,000$ THROUGH THREE YEARS JUST FOR THEM TO NOT TAKE THE RECALL AND REPLACE MY MOTOR. I AM VERY UPSET OVER THIS AND WOULD LOVE TO HAVE SOMETHING DONE ABOUT IT

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO GOSSETT KIA (LOCATED AT 1900 COVINGTON PIKE, MEMPHIS, TN 38128, 901-255-6320) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE CAUSED THE ENGINE TO BURN OIL TOO QUICKLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT BECAUSE THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE SHOWN FOR THE VEHICLE WAS DIFFERENT FROM THE ONE MENTIONED IN THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE COVERED. VEHICLE CONSTANTLY MISFIRING OR ATTEMPTING TO STALL WITH A CHECK ENGINE LINE THAT DOESN'T STAY ILLUMINATED WHETHER RUNNING, DRIVING, OR AT A STAND STILL. POTENTIALLY VERY DANGEROUS!! WHEN ABLE TO READ CODE IT STATES IT'S A CYLINDER 2 ISSUE, BUT ONLY PROVIDES GENERIC CODE. STILL HAS ISSUES DESPITE GETTING FIXED! THIS KIA SHOULD BE A PART OF THE ENGINE RECALL AS WELL!

Nov 23, 2019

I BOUGHT A USED CAR A MONTH AGO. THE CAR IS THE 2012 KIA SOUL. PERSONALLY, I LOVE THIS CAR. THE DESIGN IS PRETTY AND I LIKE IT SO MUCH. BUT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE. THE CAR'S ENGINE IS A 1.6 GDI ENGINE. THIS IS A CAR MADE IN A KOREAN FACTORY. IT RAN 119,800 MILES. ENGINE KNOCKING NOISE IS VERY SERIOUS. THE KNOCKING SOUND WAS VERY LOUD. I CHANGED THE ENGINE OIL ABOUT 50 DAYS AGO. AND I RAN ABOUT 1,000 MILES. I CHECKED THE AMOUNT OF ENGINE OIL TODAY. ENGINE OIL HAS BEEN REDUCED BY ABOUT 1 LITER. I WAS SURPRISED. IF I HADN'T CHECKED, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A BIG PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. I SAW A LOT OF NEWS ABOUT THE ENGINE OF THIS CAR IN KOREA. ALREADY, THE MINISTRY OF LAND, INFRASTRUCTURE AND TRANSPORT OF THE KOREAN GOVERNMENT HAS DONE A LOT OF RESEARCH AND TESTING ON THE ENGINE OF THE CAR. THEY FOUND THAT ENGINE OIL DECREASED A LOT, AND KIA MOTORS ACKNOWLEDGED THIS. I'M AFRAID THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY STOP ON THE STREET DUE TO ENGINE FAILURE. I WANT MY FAMILY TO BE SAFE. I CONTACTED AMERICAN KIA MOTORS. THEY ONLY SAY THAT MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. IF SO, SHOULD I JUST CONTINUE TO RIDE THIS CAR AT RISK? AND I LIVE IN HAWAII. BY THE WAY, THE KIA CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER TELLS ME TO GO TO ANOTHER ISLAND, HONOLULU, FOR INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE. IN ORDER TO DO THAT, I HAVE TO SHIP THIS CAR AND I HAVE TO TAKE A PLANE. BUT WHAT IF THE VEHICLE TAKES SEVERAL DAYS TO INSPECT? I THINK KIA SHOULD RESPOND WISELY AND QUICKLY.

IT'S ONLY SEVEN YEARS OLD, BUT IT LEAKS ENGINE OIL AND A VERY LARGE METAL BUMP AND KNOCKING COMING FROM THE ENGINE. IT CAN BE HEARD VERY LOUD EVEN OUTSIDE THE CAR. I'M VERY WORRIED IF THE ENGINE IS ON FIRE OR IF IT STOPS SUDDENLY. IN KOREA, THE GOVERNMENT HAS ALREADY RECOMMENDED THAT THE CAR'S ENGINE BE REPAIRED FREE OF CHARGE. I WANT TO BE SOLVED WELL IN THE U.S.

IT WAS STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AND SENT INTO THE AIR, AND FLEW RIGHT INTO MY CAR. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT ONE OF ADOT'S FENCES WERE DOWN THAT WAS CONTAINING CATTLE. I WAS IN A SEVERE ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS, ALONG WITH MULTIPLE OTHER VEHICLES. I FILED A POLICE REPORT AND HAVE THAT CASE NUMBER AS WELL. I HAVE PHOTO AND VIDEO EVIDENCE PROOF.

WHILE DRIVING TO A FAMILY FUNCTION IN KENTUCKY OUR 2012 KIA SOUL STARTED MAKING A VERY LOUD CLACKING NOISE AS IT TRIED TO MAINTAIN THE 55MPH SPEED LIMIT WHILE GOING UPHILL. WHEN WE PULLED OFF WE CHECKED OIL LEVELS AND CHECKED THE NOISE, IT WAS MUCH LOUDER THAN THE LIFTER NOISES AND SEEMED TO BE A POSSIBLE ROD ISSUE. AFTER PAYING FOR A TOW WE CONTACTED THE KIA DEALERSHIP IN PIKEVILLE AND WAS TOLD THAT OUR KIA SOUL WAS NOT UNDER THEIR RECALL. IF THE 1.6L GDI ENGINE IS RECALLED FOR ANY MODEL IN THIS MODEL YEAR SHOULD IT NOT BE APPLIED TO ALL MODELS? KIA DOESN'T SEEM TO WANT TO HELP IN ANY WAY.

I TOOK MY 2012 KIA SOUL INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE TWO RECALLS TAKEN CARE OF. DEALERS WILL UPGRADE THE CATALYTIC OVERHEATING PROTECTION ENGINE CONTROL UNIT LOGIC TO PREVENT OVERHEATING OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, AND REPLACE THE CONVERTER IF IT HAS BEEN DAMAGED, ALSO ASSESSING AND REPAIRING RELATED DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE AS NEEDED FREE OF CHARGE TO RESOLVE THE CONCERN. THEY DID AN ECU UPGRADE BUT AT THE TIME OF THE RECALL SERVICE THEY NOTED THAT THE ENGINE WAS KNOCKING PRIOR TO SERVICE. THEY DID NOT NOTIFY ME THAT THE ENGINE WAS KNOCKING. A WEEK LATER I NOTICED THE ENGINE KNOCKING AND TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT ADDRESSED. I WAS TOLD THAT THE #2 ROD BEARING WAS BENT AND THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE MY ENGINE TO THE TUNE OF $5500. I HAVE PERFORMED REGULAR RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE, INCLUDING OIL CHANGES, WITHIN MANUFACTURER'S GUIDELINES. THE NOISE BEGAN SUBTLY AND WORSENED OVER TIME. IT CAN BE HEARD WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AND AT ALL SPEEDS. IT IS LOUDEST WHILE ACCELERATING AND IS FAINT WHILE COASTING. MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE IS 2012 KIA SOUL+ (PLUS) WHICH HAS A NU 2.0-LITER GDI ENGINE. THE SAME ENGINE IN OTHER VEHICLES AND DIFFERENT ENGINE IN THIS VEHICLE HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. ON APR. 4TH, 2019 MY CAR HAD BROKE DOWN. AFTER GETTING A DIAGNOSTIC THE MECHANIC HAD ADVISED ME THAT THERE IS A HOLE IN MY ENGINE THAT SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN CAUSED FROM OVERHEATING . A WEEK LATER ON APRIL 12, 2019 KIA RECALL NOTICES ON MY VEHICLE. THE LETTER, WHICH I RECEIVED ON APRIL 24, 2019, STATED THAT MY VEHICLE IS HAVING A SAFETY RECALL AS THERE HAVE BEEN REPORTS THAT IT IS HAD THE ABNORMAL ENGINE COMBUSTION. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED KIA AND THEY TOWED MY CAR TO THE NEAREST KIA DEALERSHIP. TWO DAYS LATER I WILL SAVE A CALL FROM TODD, THE MECHANIC AT KIA, WHO STATED MY REPAIR HAS BEEN DENIED TO CONTACT CONSUMER AFFAIRS . I SPOKE WITH THEM NUMEROUS TIMES AND WAS TOLD THAT MY REPAIR WAS DENIED BECAUSE I HAVE NO WARRANTY ON MY ENGINE. FROM MY UNDERSTANDING, A WARRANTY IS NOT NEEDED ON A SAFETY RECALL AND THAT I AM RESPONSIBLE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS WHICH THEY SAID THEY CAN DO IT FOR $4100. THIS IS ABSURD. I HAVE BEEN SO INCONVENIENCED AND MISTREATED, ENGINES EXPLODING IS NOT A MINOR PROBLEM WITH A CAR AND I WOULD LIKE FOR THEM TO PROVIDE ME A PROPER SOLUTION. TO ME IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE REPAIRS ARE AN OUT OF POCKET COST MEANING NO ONE AT THE COMPANY WILL GET PAID TO REPAIR IT AND THEY ARE GIVING ME THE SHORT END OF THE STICK. THE RECALL LETTER INDICATED IF I HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY THIS DE THE RECALL LETTER INDICATED IF I HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY THIS DEFECT THEY WILL REPLACE THE ENGINE ST NO COST TO ME, BUT THEN ASK ME TO PAY $4100. I AM EXTREMELY UPSET, NOT ONLY IS MY PROBLEMS NOT BEING ADDRESSED BUT NOR HAS MY SAFETY. I SHOULD BE TREATED WITH CAR CONSIDERING MY ENGINE BUSTED AND I HAD A GREAT CHANCE OF MY CAR CATCHING ON FIRE. NOT ONLY THAT BUT HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO REPLACE AN ENGINE IF ALL OF THE ENGINES ARE HAVING ABNORMAL COMBUSTION? THIS IS SO DISAPPOINTING AND I WILL TAKE LEGAL MATTERS IF NOT ADDRESSED. MY 2012 KIA SOUL (BASE) WITH THE 1.6L GDI RECENTLY HAD A PROBLEM ON I-80 TRAVELING BETWEEN DES MOINES, IA AND DENVER, CO. (THERE HAD BEEN NO PRIOR SYMPTOMS) AFTER REACHING AROUND 65 MPH, THE ENGINE BEGAN MISFIRING EMMITING OBD ERROR CODE 0336 INDICATION A BAD CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. I STOPPED AT THE NEAREST AUTOZONE, BOUGHT A APPROPRIATE REPLACEMENT, AND INSTALLED THE PART IN THE PARKING LOT. UPON IGNITION, THE CAR IMMIDIATELY BEGAN MISFIRING AND DIED. ON THE SECOND ATTEMPT, THE CAR STARTED AND MISFIRED; BUT IT SENT THE SAME 0336 CODE THEN THE TACHOMETER DIED. ALTHOUGH THE TECHOMETER DIED, THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO IDLE (AND RUN) WITHOUT FURTHER MISFIRES. UPON SEEING THIS, I FIGURED IT WAS THE CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSORS (AS THE SYMPTOMS ARE VERY SIMILIAR). I FOUND, AND REPLACED BOTH ENGINE MOUNTED CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSORS, BUT NO NEW SYMPTOMS UNTILL I TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE. DURING THE TEST DRIVE, THE VEHICLE EMMITED 3 OBD CODES, AND DIDNT START MISFIRING UNTIL THE TACHOMETER WENT OVER 3500 RPM. BY THEN, I WAS DOING A HIGHWAY TEST ON I-80 OUTSIDE LINCOLN, NE, AND THE CAR JUST DIED AT AROUND 55-65 MPH. IT EMMITED CODE 0336 FOR A BAD CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR, 0565 FOR CRUISE CONTROL ON SIGNAL MALFUNCTION (I HAVE THE BASE MODEL, SO THERE IS NO CRUISE CONTROL), AND 0517 FOR BATTERY TEMPERATURE CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION. I MANAGED TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE INTERSTATE, AND BACK HOME WHERE THE PROBLEM CHANGED AGAIN. NOW IT MISFIRES UNTILL THE TACHOMETER HITS 3500, THEN THE TACHOMETER DIES AND THE VEHICLE APPEAR TO RUN NORMAL (DISPITE THE REOCCURING ODB2 CODES 0366, 0517, AND 0565) IT APPEARS THE ENGINE HEATED UP ENOUGH TO BURN OUT A BRAND NEW CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR, AND CAUSE PROBLEMS WITH THE BATTERY. (AND POSSIBLY THE ECU AS IT NOW REPORTS MY NON-EXISTANT CRUISE CONTROL IS MALFUNCTIONING)

MY KIA SOUL 2012 HAS A NOISE AT COLD START THAT LAST 15 TO 20 SECOND, IT FEEL LIKE SOME THING LOOSE. DEALER AT SAHARA, LAS VEGAS NEVADA HAD IT FOR THREE TIMES AND 4 DAYS EACH TIME AND THE FIRST TIME THEY SAID WAS THE TIMING TENSIONER AND THEY REPLACED, BUT NOISE STILL THERE SO THEY HAVE TWO TIMES MORE AND AT THE END THE SAID THE NOISE IS THE OIL PUMP, OS IF IT WAS THE OIL PUMP WHY THEY REPLACE THE TIMING TENSIONER ? THE NOISE STILL EVERY DAY IN THE MORNING, PLUS SMELLING GAS BY THE MOTOR AND INFEST THE WHOLE GARAGE, SO I TOOK IT TO DEALER AT HENDERSON ,NEVADA CAUSE I FOUND OIL LEAKING BY OCV ( OIL CONTROL VALVE, SO THEY REPLACE TWO OCV AND STILL LEAK OIL, SO I REALIZED LOOKING DEEPLY THAT FIRST TWO INJECTORS ARE LEAKING GAS, MIXING WITH OIL. THEY ASKED IF OIL GOT ON THE GARAGE FLOOR AND WHEN I SAID : NO YET, SO THEY SAID CAN NOT DO ANY THING. SO, THE SERVICES MANAGER THERE JUST PUT ALL THIS INFORMATION TO SEE IF A PERSON FROM MANUFACTURE OR SOME ONE HIGHER THAN THEN CAN LOOK IT UP. I THINK WHEN THEY REPLACE TIMING TENSIONER THEY DID NOT PUT RIGHT THE LIQUID GASKET, CAUSE I SEE THE LEAKING FROM THAT PLACE. 8-31-13 IS THE FIRST TIME I WENT INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE CAR ACCELERATING WHEN I WOULD FIRST START THE CAR UP IN THE GARAGE AND THEN WHEN I WAS DRIVING IT WOULD JERK INTO ANOTHER GEAR. THEY RESET THE ADAPTIVE LEARNING SYSTEM. 10-9-13, IS THE 2ND TIME I WENT TO DEALERSHIP WITH THE SIMILAR SITUATION, BUT THE CAR WOULD SEEM LIKE IT WAS SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND WHILE I WAS ACTUALLY DRIVING. THEY CHECKED TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVELS AND THEY THOUGHT IT WAS LOW (THEY TOLD ME THIS IS NONSERVICEABLE AREA AND THEY HAD TO ACCESS THE COVER WHICH IS BOLTED). THEY FILLED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND SAID TO WATCH AND CHECK NEXT TIME I HAVE AN OIL CHANGE. 10-11-13, ON WAY TO WORK, CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN TO WORK (30-45 MPH, CITY DRIVING) WHEN IT SEEMED LIKE IT WAS HOLDING ITS BREATH,,,SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFTED ON IT'S OWN. GOT TO OFFICE. WHEN LEAVING FOR THE DAY, CAR WAS JERKING AS IT WAS SHIFTING FROM FIRST TO 2ND AND SEEMED TO NOT ENGAGE PROPERLY. HAPPENED A COUPLE OF TIMES AT SPEEDS LESS THAN 40 MPH. THEN NOTICED THE EQUIVALENT OF A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. CALLED DEALERSHIP BEFORE I GOT HOME AND ASKED IF I COULD COME IN FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. WILL BE TAKING TO DEALERSHIP IN MORNING. THIS IS SIMILAR SITUATION THAT SOMEONE ELSE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED TO THIS SITE ON 8-10-13 FOR KIA SOUL 2012. *TR

May 18, 2012 Fire

CAR HAD AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS WASHED THEN CAME HOME. CAR'S FRONT DEFROSTER WAS NOTED TO BE STUCK ON AND WHITE SMOKE STARTED TO BILLOW OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. QUICK CHECK UNDER THE CAR NOTED A FLAME THAT WAS EITHER COMING FROM THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER OR REFLECTING IN THE EXHAUST FROM SOMEWHERE ON THE BOTTOM/SIDE OF THE ENGINE. NO FLUIDS WERE SHOWN TO BE LEAKING ONTO THE DRIVEWAY OR WERE VISIBLE. CAR THEN RAPIDLY WENT UP IN FLAMES AND WAS A COMPLETE LOSS. FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD TO PUT OUT. *TR
