Engine knocking

Nov 5, 2025

I was driving home from work and got about 5 miles and I see smoke and pulled over. I had it towed to repair shop and they said they found a hole in my engine block and a broken connecting rod. They told me I should take it to KIA as I only have 132,179 miles and that repair should be under warranty. I took it to Kia and they denied the repair due to a class action lawsuit and I did not qualify for that as a recall was missed KSDS update. I bought the car used in late 2019 and the last ower has since died. I was never notified of these updates.

RECALL FOR CATALIC CONVERTER UNDER MANUFACTOR WARRANTY , THEY CONTINUE NOT TO HONOR THE RECALL ON MY VECHILE AND THE RECALL WAS ON THE CATALIC CONVERTER

Aug 5, 2025

On [XXX] Jim Ellis Kia of Kennesaw performed Recall SC284 on my 2013 Kia Soul (VIN: [XXX] ), replacing the HECU fuse. The next day, [XXX], the vehicle lost acceleration while driving, produced a muffled engine sound, and became barely able to move forward, creating an unsafe driving condition. At no point did the check engine light illuminate, even though the vehicle was experiencing severe drivability issues. Prior to the recall, Kia’s own diagnostic (July 19, 2025) showed no catalytic converter or battery issues. An independent AAA diagnostic performed after the failure (July 21, 2025) ruled out pre-existing converter damage and linked the problem to the recall work. Despite this, the dealership denied responsibility and issued an unsupported estimate of $4,951.41 for catalytic converter replacement. The absence of a check engine light raises concerns that the recall work may have compromised the vehicle’s OBD-II diagnostic system, preventing detection of a safety defect. Furthermore, the evidence suggests that damage occurred to the catalytic converter while the vehicle was in Kia’s possession or as a direct result of the faulty installation of the recall fuse. This incident involves a safety risk, improper recall repair, and potential violation of federal recall law. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate the adequacy of Recall SC284 installation procedures and Kia’s handling of this case. First, my engine and oil light went on. Second, there began a loud prominent engine knock. I had it serviced for an oil change and after the oil change, the knock persisted and my car began to stall. Third, I took it to Midas for a diagnostic and they told me my engine is about to fail, that this is typical of Kia Soul engines, they said there are metal pieces of broken pistons in my engine and that my car will soon break down and to "pray" it doesn't happen on the road. I then drove my Kia Soul to secure a rental vehicle, but on the way my engine died in the middle of a busy intersection and I had just enough time to pull it to the bike path on the side of the road, passenger side still in the road. I then had it towed to a repair shop and paid for a second diagnostic, which aligned with the first diagnostic from Midas. I then received a recall letter from Kia Manufacturer that my specific vehicle had a safety recall from the NHSTA and to bring my car to the nearest Kia dealership for immediate repair, free of cost to me, upto engine replacement. I had my Kia Soul towed to Kia of New Port Richey, Florida and explained the recall letter. They have since done nothing in a week and said that I needed to have the first recall addressed to have this recall repair complete. Then, they said I needed to have my car registered to complete the repair. Then, they said I need to provide a maintenance record to complete this recall repair, and failure to do so will result in Kia refusing to complete my engine repair, in accordance with their recall letter I received. Therefore, I contacted the NHSTA.

Problems with our 2013 Kia Soul! started [XXX] @ 78,388 miles. We took the car to Kia Country in Manteca for an oil change, when leaving the dealership white plumes of smoke where coming out of the exhaust. Took the car back to the dealership who told us not to worry about it, drive it on the freeway to burn it off. Returned to the dealership 4-7-21 @ 80,414 miles smoke is still coming out of the exhaust, Kia performed an oil consumption test, we were told to come back in a couple of months or 3,500 miles to check on the vehicle. 6-4-21 @ 81,737 miles took the car back for inspection, engine oil checked out ok, they couldn't find any issues. [XXX] @ 91,239 miles took the car to Kia Dublin, blue smoke was coming out of exhaust and car won't start. Tech performed tests they recommended to drive the car and wait for a check engine light to be active. They can't open a tech line if there is nothing wrong with the car and they can't duplicate the concern. [XXX] @ 124,770 miles took the car back to Kia Dublin, the car is shutting off at stop lights or at idle, won't go over 40 miles an hour. After being at the dealership for 4 days, spoke to Will on 4-16-25 states the engine needs to be replaced due to the connecting rods and pistons creating an engine failure, there is also an oil leak. There is a recall for the smaller 1.6L engine but not for our 2.0L engine, even though the issues are exactly the same. Will recommended calling Kia Customer Care for help. I called Kia Customer Care 4-17-25 and was given a case number. I have been dealing with both Kia Customer Care and Kia Dublin for over 5 weeks and no one wants to own up to selling us a defective engine or give us a replacement. I have called almost everyday and I am given a different story, meanwhile the car sits on the lot at the dealership. My daughter is without a car and we are struggling to get her to work, we have not been offered a loaner car, as the car has not been approved for an engine replacement. honor catalytic converter failure under manufacturer warranty which they refuse to honor after 90 days at the kia service center , and fail to replace the defective part

Nov 19, 2024

My 2013 Kia Soul 1.6L is currently displaying a check engine light. My vehicle has very strong smelling exhaust, engine knocking, sluggish acceleration, and reduced fuel mileage. This has been going on for about a year. I have a diagnostic code reader and it returns the error code P0420, which indicates a faulty catalytic converter, which could cause engine damage. There is a recall for the catalytic converter for my year and engine type. I received a letter in the mail regarding this recall. The link to the letter: [XXX] However, when I enter my VIN at the KIA owners portal this recall does not come up. I have contacted my local Kia Dealership (Johnson City KIA) and they act like they have no idea what I am talking about. I have called Kia customer care center and they refused to help, saying that the recalls are "VIN specific". That's ridiculous. If the recall covers my year make and model then the VIN shouldn't mean [XXX]. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I cranked car letting it warm up, pulled out of my park onto main road, got approximately 300 yards to the red light, while sitting at the red light the cars idling went aradic, I opened the driver's side door and looked under the car, the catalytic converter was glowing red, solid red, I tried to pull into the store next to the red light, the check engine light came in and the car had no power when I mashed the gas, people behind me helped me push it into the store, after getting home that evening I checked and seen they had a catalytic converter recall on my car stating that the catalytic converter can catch on fire and harm the engine, I took the car to Kia south in Union city they gave us the run around stating that I had to have a new engine I told them the catalytic converter recall states that the catalytic converter will cause fire and engine damage, before even inspecting the car their tech had already made up his mind that's not what killed the engine, then started stating that my car wasn't under the recall I ask him how us that possible when it did the same thing 749.000 kia cars did, then was called a week later tech saying he couldn't do the recall cause he couldn't get the car to crank, but the tech said he did a diagnostics on I asked how if he couldn't get the car to crank, we took a mechanic to Kia with us, to look at the car ,after looking at the car, the mechanic told us this is the exact same damage that he has work on because of the catalytic converter, the tech showed us a picture on his phone stating the were metal pieces in the oil , that the car was ran out of oil, upon further inspection of his pictures the tech was caught in a lie, the picture wasn't even a picture of my car , our mechanic told the tech that this falls under the recall and Kia knows it.. Kia and the tech acknowledge my car falls under the recall but said I have more than 150.000 miles on it, so if i want it fixed it would cost $8000 dollar for new engine

I recently serviced my Kia Soul 2013 in May and March 2024. Completing oil service, air filter replacement and new brakes and rotors. End of June, the car's engine light went on and there was a jump when idle. Took it to Kia Service Center and they reported there is an internal failure in the top assembly with an unknown cause. The car is currently unsafe to drive and needs further diagnosis, which Kia is refusing to complete. I was not notified of the recent recall issue with engire fire safety concern until the end of June 24.

Gas peddle gets very touchy before incident. RPMs spike to 3-4K, unable to stop car. Brakes do not work. Brakes get very hard and high brake peddle. Have to put the car in neutral, pull over, turn car off, put in park. Let car sit for a few minutes. Start car, something must reset because car is back to normal. My regular mechanic was unable to resolve, therefore took to dealer. $3500 later, the car is currently at the dealer for the 4th time trying to resolve. Very dangerous due to the car acceleration and inability to stop!! Has been happening for approx. 4 years. Started out happening once or twice per year, then increased to 4 times in one day. Did not happen for 5 months after brake booster was replaced in January 2024. Most recent incident 7-3-24

There is a history of engine failure. The check engine light does not remain on for a diagnostic to be completed. This has been going on for about a year. One day it would run then the next day the engine would fail. It is happening more frequently such as after filling up with gas, waiting at stop lights, reversing, and DURING driving. The vehicle now will not restart when the engine fails. After investigating the failure, I related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V120000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling). Kia's number for this recall is SC176. The manufacturer was notified of the failure due to the local dealership not replacing the catalytic converter due to being “out of warranty”. A case was opened and I am awaiting a response from a caseworker. I have a code in the History: P0172 code, which stands for "Fuel System Too Rich (Bank 1)". What this means in plain language is that there's too much fuel being delivered to combustion chambers on bank 1, or not enough air. Manufacturers are required to fix the problem by repairing it, replacing it, offering a refund, or in rare cases repurchasing the vehicle. However, that is not what I’m experiencing rather I am being dismissed and neglected even after the engine failed on the highway going 70mph with a semi-truck behind me nearly running over me. I then had to be towed to the dealership, which was expensive. I have spent thousands of dollars in attempts to repair/remedy this problem to only recently find out that there is a related recall. Kia's number for this recall is SC176. I refuse to drive this car as it is unreliable and unsafe. Also, the recall below has still not been repaired since the Notice was received in 2023. Manufacturer Recall Number: SC284AM NHTSA Recall Number: 23V652 Recall Status:”Recall Incomplete, remedy not yet available”

The contact stated that on another occasion, the vehicle started shuddering and jerking and almost stalled. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed a misfire and a failure in cylinder #4. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V652000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

The engine caught on fire. The car cut off while I was driving. It began to smoke and then I saw the flames. My safety was put at risk because I was driving the car. The car is burned from the front bumper to the backseat. The car has not been inspected because of how bad it is burned. There were not any warnings of the failure before it happened.

The contact owns a 2013 Kia Soul. The contact stated that the dealer had previously performed an unknown recall repair on the vehicle. The contact stated that after the repair, the vehicle stalled while driving on several occasions. The vehicle was able to restart but failed to exceed 25 MPH while driving. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to another dealer, Tameron Kia Westbank (1884 Westbank Expy, Harvey, LA 70058), where it was diagnosed that the engine was blown. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V652000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic), which she related to the failure; however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 149,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

The contact owns a 2013 Kia Soul. The contact stated that vehicle would hesitate upon depression of brake pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but no cause for the failure was found. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the steering wheel seized. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic; however, the vehicle returned to normal operation while in the possession of the independent mechanic and was returned to the contact. Upon return of the vehicle, the contact noticed that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic where a diagnostic was performed, and the diagnostic test showed a misfire in cylinder #4. The mechanic linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V120000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling). The local dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

The car stared to lose all power and sputtering. Then the check engine light started coming on then it would go off. This has been going on for about 4 months. One day it would run on then next day not good at all. I changed the plugs and coils and it ran a lil better for about 2 days. Not every time I put it in reverse I started cutting out and now I don't the it can idle at all. It's a 4 cylinder feeling like a beefed up v8 trying to ideal. I looked at my coils and it looked like it had been on fire I have put every bit of money I could to try to fix it. I just had tires put on too. I pay for full coverage and a car payment. I pay aot for this car every month yet I can't drive it. I take care of my father that is terminal and on hospice, plus I'm disabled myself on a fixed income. This car is all I have and it my only car for my father as well. Help pleas

NHTSA Recall 23V652000 recalled September 2023. Possible engine fire, Kia request we do not park car near buildings or other cars as fire is possible. It is now May 23, 2024 and no further action by KIa. Issue still unresolved. That is ten months and no solution. Vehicle is a 2023 Kia Soul. Can't even sell the car with such a serious recall! Hoping you can light a fire under Kia so they come up with fix to prevent my car from catching fire. i WAS NOIFIED LAST YEAR SEPTEMBER 2023 OF A DANGEROUS RECALL THAT COULD CATCH THE VEHICLE ON FIRE. NOW. 9 MONTHS LATER KIA HAS NOT PROVIDED ME WITH A REPAIR FOR MY SAFTY.

Apr 25, 2024

Recall is still unresolved?. This is ridiculous, how long should I be inconveniences?.. I read it's a fuse replacement?. Can't they produce a fuse?. Kia shouldn't be allowed to sale any more of their death traps, until they handle these unresolved issues with there existing customers.

Check engine light threw a code for catalytic converter overheating. Kas dealer says not to worry unless light is flashing, which it's not. Engines have been known to be destroyed by the excessive heat from the converter

Mar 28, 2024

The recall that was put out in September 2023 still has not been remedied as of March 28, 2024. I believe the remedy has not been fixed in a timely manner considering the direct dangers posed as a result of the HECU default. Six months without remedy, when the danger has existed since before then, is an egregious inaction on the part of Kia to myself, the customer.

My complaint has to do with the current recall on my vehicle. It's not driveable as it's safety hazard - engine quits at stops no rpm's panel lights (ABS, battery (brand new as mechanic I went to put on diagnostic machine and that's only thing that showed) oil light and malfunction indicator illuminate and then everything goes off including my headlights (I was driving early evening). Called local dealer (I never received notice but by chance looked up to see if any recalls and saw it on your website. they rudely said "you know as much as we do about when we'll get parts to repair recall". Clearly it's shorting out and I'm not going to endanger myself or others but what do I do? I've have a number of medical issues and am missing necessary appointments. How much longer is it expected before recall repairs can be made? I do Thank you for all you do. I am grateful an entity exists that look out for us. Least I don't feel totally lost.

Engine Light is flashing rapidly on my car, I am unable to drive the vehicle due to safety reasons and the vehicle started slowing down then the wheel locked up and the car cut off while driving a short distance. There is a knocking and ticking sound coming from the engine. Took the car to KIA dealership they said they couldnt fix the issue with the Engine and gave me no solution. I had to pay for a rental car and do ride shares (lyft and Uber) to get around because I was told by the Dealership Adviser that doesnt supply Loaner cars or put you in a rental until you car is serviced for the recall. My car was at the Kia Dealership for two weeks. When I picked up my car i was told by the Dealership Adviser that the Engine is going bad and it will not last very much longer in need to purchase a new one soon.

I'm already aware of the recalls on alot of vehicles including my 2013 KIA SOUL and am aware of a judges ruling on this. How can KIA SOUL play God with peoples lives? I already filed a claim but still not not getting any help until the end of April. I'm a [XXX] woman who is at risk of getting hurt not to mention other people/and or other people close to my vehicle. This is just beyond wrong. I saved for 2 years to get a more dependable vehicles and now have to worry about an explosion. I already filed a claim but I'm scared. The radio has been funky since I got it last year. It's a used vehicle buy to me it looked new to me. I love it bur now afraid to even get in it but really don't have a choice since I'm [XXX] and don't have anyone else to get help or have another vehicle to use. I depend solely on myself. I need help with getting another vehicle until all of this mess is taken care of. I have gas gauge issues, revving up randomly, caution light staying on now and yesterday I had smoke coming out under the dash and then it just stopped while I was trying to pull off and call for help but it stopped so I came back home. The oil was changed right after I got it last year and I put new tires on it with the money I got from a junk yard in Johnson City that came to get my 98 Ford Escort that my church family helped for me after a very traumatic accident that killed my little senior rescue pommy, totaled my vehicle and I spent several days in ICU. I live on a very strict monthly income and this has caused more anxiety and panic issues that I can't even get under control with breathing exercises, journaling and taking my fur baby for walks and am back on my regular meds. Please someone needs to help me or I'm just going to give up. Thank you [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I bought my KIA SOUL 2013 last year after saving for it bc I needed something more dependable and love it but I don't feel safe anymore bc of the possibility of an engine explosion. There's always been something funky about the radio coming when I start it but now there's a caution light staying on and the oil and everything else checks out. Also the gas lever starts blinking when I've just filled it up. What I don't get is how these people can play God with people's lives? I need a dependable vehicle to be able to go help my granddaughter needs me. At first the radio issue I blamed on me just being PARONOID thankfully I know there is something major going on.I don't let my fur baby go with me anymore, not risking hi life, it's bad enough I have worry about myself and it's just wrong.

Feb 8, 2024

In November, the platform through whom I rent my Kia Soul delisted the vehicle due to a safety recall. Within a week, I received a notice for Recall 23V652. The issue is that the car can experience an electrical short circuit, which can result in an engine compartment fire while driving or parked. The notice helpfully pointed out that an engine fire can increase the risk of injury, but that no fix is in sight, yet. I can no longer support my son and his education (I was using the money from renting out the vehicle to pay for tuition), I cannot even drive the car to get another part time job,and despite calls and letters, nothing is being done to fix the car. It's been 4 months without transportation. To add insult to Russian-Roulette injury, ANOTHER notice arrived from Kia advising that thieves have an easy time breaking into a stealing certain vehicles (Offer QHJWT) and if I could just drive my car and get someone to agree to have the ticking flame-bomb in their parking lot, they would fix this - at no charge. I need the car to work. I need the fix. If not, I need my money returned. I continue to make payments on a car I cannot drive. I will also file a complaint with the FTC. Slow to accelerate abs light on Engine light on

Jan 30, 2024

While driving, the lights flickered, then car shut down in the middle of the road. I could smell something burning. No warning lights came on. Had to tow the car. Found out there was no oil in the engine, when I should have had 2000 miles to go until next oil change. Engine seized. Apparently there is an oil consumption recall on almost all other kias for oil consumption EXCEPT my car

On [XXX] I was driving my 2013 Kia Soul in the center lane on [XXX] when all of a sudden the whole dashboard panel lit up and then everything went off and the car came to a halt. the engine was dead it would not start nothing would turn on. I had to push my vehicle from the center of the 3 lane highway off to the right side breakdown lane. I had to call AAA to have them tow my car to my mechanic. After looking over the vehicle i was informed that my engine had seized up and there was no oil in the engine. I had my oil change a little less then a month ago from the date of the incident. There was no low oil light warning that came on while I was driving my car. This same car I have had issues with the catalytic converter and issues with the 1.6L Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) that i had to pay over $1400.00 to have repaired and had several issues with it trying to get it to pass safety inspection and safety emissions. The check engine light has been on about a few weeks. While driving on the highway at approx 65 miles per hour my car started losing power and the temperature gauge indicator went to "H". I pulled off the highway and noticed a burning smell and smoke coming from the hood. I waited about 10 minutes then got back on the road again the temperature gauge began to rise to "H". I pulled off several things before reaching home. The next day the car was towed to Hollywood Kia. My car has been at the shop for 2 weeks. I was giving a repair bill of $1500. Engine rod bearings loose torque and piston break make a hole into block, I fix the engine but my cat converter failed

Jul 20, 2023

Car’s check engine and oil light came in and flickered. Went to get an oil change and have them check the car. I turned the car off when I got there. When I went to start the car to wind the windows down, the mechanic saw sparks, I saw smoke coming out of the engine and he yelled for me to stop trying to start it. We opened the hood, tried again and the same thing happened - almost caught on fire. Now, the engine won’t turn over. He said the battery is good. He said the engine is done.

Jul 6, 2023

The first issue took place in September 2022 when someone tried to steal the catalytic converter off of my car, I took it in to be replaced. Shortly after I started having engine issues, the engine light start flashing numerous times over a few week span and I had taken it into the Waikem (now Diehl) dealership in Massillon, and first they thought it was the spark plugs and replaced those, then had the same issue less than a week later, and then said the engine seized up and needed replaced. I was without my car for a total of over two months altogether, because then after I had it replaced, I had the same issue again, a week later and it was the ignition coils that needed replaced. This was right before Christmas in December 2022. After about two months. I began having issues again. It was one EVAP issue after another with the check engine light on again many times. I took it in, had the purge valve replaced, then a month later, had another issue, and had the filters replaced, then a month later, another issue, this time the purge valve again. Then we thought we fixed it last week, but now same issue again. I have had NOTHING but issues with this vehicle since last year and I am very upset, because I have LOST all confidence in my vehicle. It is one issue after another. Now the fuel gauge is flashing that it is empty, even though I filled up my tank yesterday, this has been the same ongoing issue for three weeks now and no resolution, with the check engine light on. I just want a working vehicle. I have children. I NEED it to be safe and reliable.

The recall #19V120 States that engine damage may occur do to this recall & that in that case KIA would repair the engine at no cost to me. My car has the same engine damage that they refer to & also has recall open. I took to a KIA dealer & they confirmed that the engine has a bad connecting rod but like stated can happen but KIA will not cover it because recall was not performed soon enough. They state in their recall information that this is what can happen & that it is inclusive of the recall but then say they will not cover? I'm confused. Is this acceptable for Recalls. Then they do not understand why people do not want to take their time to take a car back in for a recall because its just a waste of your time & then the dealer wants to upsell you on something they say they saw when perfoming the recall.

In December 2022, my 2013 KIA Soul was broken into. There was a trend on tik tok showing how easy it was to break into KIA AND HYUNDAI. My Kia Soul was in the shop for over a month getting fixed. While driving home on I-95 the Kia Soul broke down, it shut off and had to be towed back to the shop. When the shop called back and told me what the issue was, they said the engine was done. I looked up on the recall website seeing if the engine was on the recall list, it said it was not. There are 4 Kia Soul engines on the list but mine is not. I contacted Kia about the issue, they said since I am not the 1st owner, the 10 year 100,000 mile warranty was a void. I only got 5 years 50,000 miles. How are customers getting new engines with the same issue & this Soul isn't

Catalytic converter is going out. Although apparently there was no recall for MY car in particular but there has been a recall for the converter overheating and damaging the engine. Car no longer goes over 40 mph; meaning I can no longer use the freeway. Oil light comes on at least twice a month. Even after a oil change It comes right back on. Check engine light never goes off. Piston Rod is damaged which then contributes to a oil leak. This has been happening over a 6 month time span. I call myself fixing one thing then something else more detrimental breaks.

Vehicle traveled down I-65 normal cruising. Had a check engine light illuminated. Code pulled as a P0420 diagnosed for Catalytic Converter. Because of this code, the oxygen sensors eventually went out. Sensors were replaced. Two months later the code for O2 sensors being bad came again. Vehicle was seen by another driver on right side with flames showing under the engine while driving. From there, a noise was heard, seen later as a hole made in the bottom of the cast iron block. Vehicle was pulled to the side of the road. I had gotten out to pop the hood, where white smoke was fuming from. Then I seen flames arise and grabbed all personal belongings fearing the worst (explosion). Flames simmered down after 1 hour passed. Engine was not started but with a hole in the bottom, fear of a rod being slung is scary.

My mechanic found Kia TSB 222 Excessive Oil Consumption. He wrote up that he warned me not to drive vehicle and have towed to KIA dealer. Contacted KIA dealer and was told my vehicle not covered as I was second owner. The vehicle had 105302 miles when I bought it in May 2021 and currently has 112446 as of today. There is a class action lawsuit pending on these issues. It shouldn't matter who the owner is when an engine fails because of defective workmanship. KIA is aware of this specific problem and are doing everything they can to NOT make it right by the consumer. This recall should encompass all vehicles with the defect. This is not some recall for a window seal that falls out. This renders the vehicle completely useless and valuable only as scrap. Imagine all the people who did everything right and now have no vehicle due to an issue over which they had no control.

The engine on my vehicle stopped working while I was driving on the freeway. I later got my vehicle towed to Future Kia of Clovis to handle the engine recall. When I have the vehicle serviced, they inform me that they could fix the recall, however they would not fix the damage that the recall caused to my engine. They also said that if would have gotten the recall fixed before my engine was damaged, I would have been able to purchase an extended warranty. However my engine would not have been damaged if the recall was repaired prior. They informed me that I would need an entire new engine that would cost around $5000. A former employee that I know personally told me that they are responsible for repairing recall damages as well as the recall and I should not be asked to pay an outrageous amount of money to have a reliable vehicle. Now I no longer have transportation due to Future Kia of Clovis failing to repair the recall and the damage.

2013 Kia Soul randomly turns off. It has 101K miles. No dash or warning lights come on before this happens. Then after it turns off an oil can icon, battery icon and a steering wheel icon with exclamation come on the dash and the air is still on, so its on battery power. I have to put it in park, turn off the ignition and AC and restart the car. The second issue that is happening. It is also randomly struggling to start up. I have bought a new battery thinking it was the issue. Still it randomly has startup cranking issues. The random engine power off has happened while slowing down to go over a speed bump, while idling at a stop lights and while i tried to engage the reverse to backup. It is also randomly struggling to start after these engine power off events. Never consistent. Sometimes it starts right up after the power off and others it takes several cranks before it starts. I have to put it in park, turn off the ignition and restart it. I drive 5 miles to work and luckily don't need to go over 35MPH to get there, but I shudder to think what could have happened if i was going faster and the engine cuts off. I have had it diagnosed at a non Kia reputable mechanic repair shop, where they tested the battery and is shows to be good(Should since it is new). Since it sounded like an electrical issues they tested and cleaned the power and ground cables. They attached the scan tool and checked all the modules on the vehicle and no diagnostics trouble codes were stored in any of the modules. But the problem continues. I have scheduled another diagnostic with a Kia dealership Sept 29, 2022 to see if they can figure this out. This is very dangerous as it happens randomly and disables the car. Like i mentioned I shudder to think what could of happened the times I was on the highway driving at 60-65MPH and the only way to get it turn back on is to put it in park and restart it and hope it starts right away before an accident occurs. Not driving til fixed

Speed Control may have misfunctioned. I do not really know. When driving, the car randomly drops down to 5 mph and continues on its own at 5mph. The only way to stop is to turn off the engine. The car is not safe to drive This defect puts me at risk and all the cars following me at risk. This defect has not been independently verified but it is easy to reproduce. Check Engine was on due to problems with a multitude of engine sensors.

I got a recall letter in the mail too late! (October 2021) I received recall letter and called my local dealership 5 minutes after reading it & was told to put the letter in my glove box until my car completely broke down December 8th 2021. It was towed and was told it needed spark plugs & an oil chance which I knew wasn't the case. It sat at that dealership for two months with every service advisor giving me the run around and come to find out I'm not the first person. Had it towed to a different location where it sat for another two months where I had to fight to get a "goodwill" engine which we still paid almost $4,000 when it should of been for free! I got my car back March 31st 2022 and now my car had failed again! Am being told it's something different now & the STEALERSHIP wants another $1,500 from me! My child has had to miss dr appointments due to this and I've jad enough! Kia customer service is incompetent and Kia dealership service departments are as well! Due to the fact my engine should of been replaced for free like everyone else but someone decided to send me the recall letter LATE!

I have a Kia Soul ECO. Frequently the car will stop. For no apparent reason. It may have to do with the ECO feature where the engine turns off when you come to a complete stop. This is very dangerous as it happens randomly and disables the car. I have to turn the engine off and back on to continue.

My 2013 Kia Soul Exclaim has turned-off three (3) times in the past 30 days. The first time was on 5/17/22, the car was idling in traffic at a stoplight when it turned-off completely. I had my mom in the front passenger seat, and we were quick to turn on the emergency lights. Thankfully, after 60-90 seconds, it restarted, and we were able to continue with the flow of traffic without issue until I tried accelerating, and it sounded like it was stuck between two gears at 40mph. When we were about to idle in traffic, the car felt like it was going to stall/turn off again. We parked in an apartment complex, and checked for leaks but didn’t see any. I scheduled an appointment with Firestone Complete Autocare for the next day, and after a few hours I was able to start the car and head home without issues. On 5/18/22, we took the car to Firestone where they checked the battery & other components but readings came back normal. The manager couldnt explain what happened and didn’t feel comfortable changing the battery since readings were normal. I didn’t have any further issues until 6/1/22 when the car was idling, and turned-off again. It still took 60-90 seconds to restart, but no further issues until this morning, 6/4/22. Today, the car was idling while at the Starbucks drive-thru line when it turned off. This time it took 90-120 seconds to start again, and when I tried to accelerate it began to sputter and felt like it was going to turn off again. I decided to go home, but it would not accelerate up the hill I live on, and ultimately died on the street outside my neighborhood. The car was towed to Firestone, and it was suggested to check Kia for a recall. NHTSA shows that 2012-2016 Kia Souls have been recalled for faulty catalytic converters. I called Kia Service, and the mechanic said that the VIN on my vehicle is not recalled, but from what I described, it could be an issue with the catalytic converter. Firestone was notified, and will check the engine.

May 16, 2022

The car broke down in concord nc in February 2022 they said it was the catalytic converter and it was on back order. Then the end of April they put the part on and the engine locked up. They said to come and get it there was nothing the could do.

The engine threw a rod while we were on the highway due to the recalled part. Our safety was at risk as it was me (23), my husband (27), our two kids ( 2 year old and 4 month old) and my husbands brother (23) in the vehicle when it malfunctioned. We were lucky enough to safely get off the highway without harming ourselves or anyone else. We had the vehicle towed to a shop and they informed us that it threw a rod in the engine but insurance didnt come out. There werent any messages on prior to failure but once it happened a few lights came on. The check engine, oil, and a light that had a steering wheel and an exclamation point by it.

In mid January 2022 I purchased from Baba's Autos in Houston 2013 Kia 5 speed 4cyl [XXX] vin. I immediately saw was using oil like 1gal per month. I took to Elite Auto in Feb2022 and they say engine recall on this as piston rings shot why oil blow-by. Was caused by a NHTSA Safety reacll #19V120000 with recall date 2019-02-21 so I took in on 9Mar22 as some outstanding recall items like software update and Catalytic check. They said on 9Mar22 "No Issues" with Catalytic converter. less than 3 days later on 12Mar22 I broke down driving less than 60 miles to northwest side of Houston with code P0240 Catalytic inefficiency trying to get to my kids who were broke down from a flat tire near 290 and 610. I towed to Clear lake area w/ AAA and on Monday 14th had towed over to Gay Family Kia. I was expecting to get a Catalytic converter replaced due to the NHTSA Safety recall as the damage caused to my 2013 Engine but after 2 weeks of waiting on 24MAR22 I was told by Roy that I would have to pay for the catalytic converter nearly $2k which should be covered under the Safety recall. I also should be provided a new engine as existing is sucking oil due to piston ring damage. At the moment, my Kia is in the Gay Family Service center and it seems any recall on my vehicle has been zeroed out of the national database even though any Catalytic converter upgrades have not been completed. My trust in Kia products has been damaged. My trust in Gay Family Kia service center is also damaged as I was stuck without transportation for 2 weeks. And though my vehicle has 139k miles why won't they change out the engine if there is piston ring damage that was caused by their faulty catalytic converter that they don't want to pay to change out even though the NHTSA 19V120000 safety recall clearly states is result of overheating Catalytic Converters. I don't know who to talk to now as this doesn't seem right. Can someone please help me [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Took my car in for recall and they said I need an engine but will not replace it free of charge. Also the catalaytic converter was clogged and someone tried to take it off to get me home when I broke down on side of road. They won't replace it even though it was malfunctioning and I had to do what I could to get off side of road. They replaced the computer thing but said the engine would be at my cost. Can you please help. This is at Lancaster Kia in Pennsylvania.

Purchased used 2013 Kia Soul July 2018. June 2019, vehicle was taken to Kia Dealership for SC176-19V120 ECU Logic Upgrade. Neither catalytic converter nor engine were replaced during recall repair. In 2020, vehicle began consuming oil and poor mileage. No smoke or leak detected. Had vehicle inspected by local mechanic, who could not find pooled oil or a leak. Suggested replacing PCV valve and had that done, but symptoms persisted. April 2021 Engine Misfire Code P0300 and P0303 for cylinder 3 and multiple cylinder misfires detected. Local mechanic also checked for burning oil or leaks. Engine made knocking sounds on acceleration. Mechanic performed fuel system cleaning, and replaced spark plugs and coils. Engine knocking stopped, but loss of oil and poor mileage remained. Oct 2021 Campaign PI2002A Knock Sensor software update to ECU was performed by local Kia dealership with no other repairs performed. Feb 2022, visible oil leaking from beneath car and check engine light. Local mechanic diagnosed CodE P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1), and heard engine knocking. Recommended replace catalytic converter and reprogram ECU for short term fix, followed by engine replacement due to wear and damage from catalytic converter. Suggested I contact dealership who performed recall repairs to see about warranty or replacement of engine due to recall repairs failing to correct faulty engine issues.

Received Engine Code P0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold - Bank 1. There is an existing recall NHTSA # 19V120000 ( Kia Recall SC176), with similar issues and I received a letter from Kia to get the recall repaired, but when entering my VIN, my vehicle is not on the recall list, and now I believe I am experiencing this recall on my vehicle. If the cat. the converter is clogged it can cause engine failure and possibly a fire in the near future. Unfortunately, Kia will not repair my vehicle as the VIN is not listed. The possible repairs are in the thousands for a new catalytic converter, which I have seen may other customers not get reimbursed if they fix it on their own. I am hoping this can get on their radar to add my car to the recall. My vehicle is a 2013 Kia Soul (Base Model 1.6 liter). Thank you.

May, 2021 the check engine light came on. The engine appeared to be sluggish upon acceleration. Took vehicle to be serviced at Meineke in Berlin. NJ. They suggested filling tank with high octane gas. They also changed all fluids and filters as well as installed all new spark plugs. Engine continued to be sluggish and once again check engine light came on. On 8/24/21 an email was sent by the Federal Court attaching an information pamphlet regarding a recall in response to a "knock sensor detection system". I immediately attempted to make an appointment with the Turnersville, NJ Kia Dealer. I was told they were booked up for 6 to 8 weeks. I made an appointment, but subsequently cancelled when I was able to be seen by Keller Auto repair on 8/26/21. They diagnosed a "bad ground circuit ". They advised we should take the vehicle to a Kia dealer. I was able to get an appointment with Cherry Hill, NJ Kia dealer for 8/26/21. I was given a $426.45 invoice to perform recall along with a transmission service purge & fill and drive belt replacement. Unfortunately, engine problems were worsening. The vehicle was stalling at every stop sign, traffic light and acceleration. I inquired about the "knock sensor" recall and was told they would submit a claim to Kia for engine replacement. Claim was denied! Vehicle has been rendered as inoperable and unsafe. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

It all started when I thought I received bad gas a couple of months ago after filling my tank up with regular gas from a Speedway , It didn't start right away, and that never happened and then it continued to Be hard to accelerate, as I drove it. That has happened on 2 other occasions since that incident a couple of months ago I would push the pedal to the floor and the RPM would not move it stayed on zero. The accelerator was resistant to move, but I made it home. Spoke a mechanic friend, who's done body work on my car, and thought, as I did, I had bad gas.. suggested, I get the fuel tank flushed and filled, which I did at Jiffy Lube. I've since put HEET in on every fill up, and used premium gas. Happened again yesterday am on my way home from work about about 830am. I was stopped at a light, it cut off, I put it in park, and cut it back on, but it was hard to accelerate. I made it home, but now extremely worried, given all the spontaneous fires, and engine problems. It's my only source of transportation, so I'm in desperate need of help.

My car is having the exact same problem (engine damage from rod bearing wear) as the issue that triggered Recall No 20V-750 in Kia Forte, which also has the same 2.0L Nu GDI engine. My mechanic discovered the problem, which has blown my engine, and I know there is no motive for him to lie about it because he advised me to ask Kia to replace the engine and did not attempt to sell me the service himself. I have performed all recommended maintenance on time, and the only previous owner of the car provided documentation of doing the same. I know not many people who buy a Kia Soul spring for the premium trim with this engine so there may not be many complaints about it yet, but my hope is that the 20V-750 recall will at some point be extended to my car's model and trim as my car has only about 85,000 miles on it.

My 2013 Kia Soul has been stalling while idle or at red lights. In addition, sometimes it is difficult to start and I have to attempt several times. Lately, once I do start the vehicle and begin to drive, it’s as if the vehicle doesn’t know which gear to maintain. As a result, the car will attempt to “cut off” driving and l literally will have to pull over immediately in attempt to not be hit or run off the road, as the car is practically in neutral by its own choice. Also, the “emergency brake” light is on, even though the emergency brake is not being used.

The first issue is that the oil light does not come on properly. It would only flicker on occasionally when the oil level began to get low. This is scary to think about not being warned that your car is out of oil and continuing to drive, when the engine could seize. The real issue is that the car is consuming oil. I am going through a quart a week just to keep up. I drive 500-600 miles a week. Kia will tell you that adding oil in-between oil changes is normal. There is nothing normal about having to give it this much. The car is not smoking and the car is not leaking. I had it checked by my mechanic, and they replaced the PCV valve. They said this was a long shot, and the next step would be to replace the engine. The valve replacement did little to help the consumption of oil. I know there are other cars in Kia's offering that have leaked oil into the pistons, I am thinking this could be one of them.

THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN MARCH 2020 AND IN JANUARY 2021 STARTED EXPERIENCING STALLING AND SMOKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE AS HAVING BAD GAS. IN FEBRUARY 2021, THE CAR HAD THE SAME ISSUE, STALLED WHILE DRIVING, AND WAS ALSO SMOKING. AFTER TWO WEEKS OF SITTING AT THE DEALERSHIP AND AWAITING THE DIAGNOSIS, THE SERVICE MANAGER AT SOUTHSIDE KIA REPORTED THAT THE ENGINE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AND IT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $7700. UPON RESEARCH, KIA HAS RECALLED OVER 300K VEHICLES DUE TO ENGINE STALL AND THE RISK OF CATCHING FIRE. THESE ARE THE SAME ISSUES THAT MY MOM'S CAR IS HAVING, HOWEVER, THE DEALER WILL NOT ENTERTAIN OR PAY THE COST AND RATHER ATTEMPT TO SELL HER ANOTHER CAR. I AM STILL AWAITING THE DOCUMENTED ESTIMATE. I HAVE ONLY SPOKEN TO THE SERVICE ADVISOR ON THE PHONE. MY CONCERN IS THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE ENGINE TROUBLE IN JANUARY 2021 AND POTENTIALLY IN MARCH OF 2020 WHEN THEY SOLD THE VEHICLE TO HER. THIS APPEARS TO BE DISHONEST AND THAT KIA'S STAFF TOOK ADVANTAGE OF A SENIOR CITIZEN. THE CAR WAS IN MOTION WHILE STALLING AND SMOKING.

A COMPLAINT TO KIA CONSUMER AFFAIRS ADDRESSING CONCERNS AND ISSUES WITH MY 2013 KIA SOUL IN DECEMBER 2020. THE COMPLAINT WAS REGARDED TO EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION, LOW GAS MILEAGE,VEHICLE STALLING AND SHUTTING DOWN COMPLETELY WHILE IN MOTION IN THE HIGHWAY AND FAULTY ENGINE PARTS. I INITIATED A 2ND COMPLAINT ABOUT SAME ISSUES IN JANUARY 2021. PRIOR TO ALL THIS IN 2019 KIA HAD A RECALL FOR ECU IN WHICH I STRONGLY THINK IS THE ONSET BEGINNING HOW ISSUES I CURRENTLY HAVE HAVE RESONATED INTO CURRENT ISSUES LEADING UP TILL (PRESENT). THIS YEAR 2021, I CALLED KIA CONSUMER ADDRESSING ISSUES BUT REP. STATED, THERE WERE NO ENGINE CAMPAIGNS OR RECALLS ISSUED AT THIS TIME AND INSISTED I CALL THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. I CALLED THE KIA DEALERSHIP EXPLAINING TO THE SERVICE REP. AN INCIDENT HAD OCCURRED AS I'M DRIVING TO WORK WHILE IN MOTION IN ONGOING TRAFFIC UP A HIGHWAY MY CAR BEGIN TO STALL LIKE IN LIMP MODE AND LOSING POWERTRAIN IN THE ENGINE AND SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. WHILE THIS HAPPENED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED AS THE BATTERY LIGHT, OIL LIGHT AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WERE ON ALL AT THE SAME TIME. I TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE BUT WOULD NOT START. I CALLED FOR 911 ASSISTANCE FOR IMMEDIATE HELP DUE TO CAR SHUTTING OFF ON ME IN ONGOING TRAFFIC. THE STATE AGENT DID NOT COME IN TIME, SO DOT HAPPENED TO DRIVE PASSED AND SLOWED DOWN AND COME BACK TO HELP PUSH MY VEHICLE TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY TO SAFETY. EVENTUALLY, 911 AGENT CAME AND I EXPLAINED EVERYTHING TO HIM AS I CALLED FOR ROADSIDE ASST. TO COME AND TOW MY CAR TO THE NEAREST AUTO SHOP. I PHONE THE KIA DEALERSHIP THE SAME DAY OF THIS INCIDENT AND EXPLAINED EVERYTHING, KIA REP. SAID THAT'S BECAUSE YOU SHOW A RECALL OPEN ON YOUR VEHICLE AND NEED TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIRS. ECU KNOCK SENSOR WAS TOLD BY SERVICE MGR. THIS WAS THE REASON CAR SHUT DOWN ON ME. DISAPPOINTED WITH KIA

THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CAR WOULD CRANK AFTER SITTING FOR A MOMENT AND THEN THE CAR WOULD STALL AGAIN WHILE DRIVING. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS BEING THAT THIS WAS IN TRAFFIC. IN FEBRUARY, THE CAR WAS STALLING AND WHEN TOWED TO THE DEALER THEY DIAGNOSED AS HAVING BAD GAS AND TO RUN THE GAS OUT OF THE TANK. THE ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON AT THIS TIME. THE CHARGE WAS $168.00 TO DIAGNOSE. THE SAME PROBLEM IS OCCURRING A MONTH LATER AND THE DEALERSHIP RESPONDED THAT IN ORDER TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM IT WILL COST $420. THIS APPEARS TO BE AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT JUST TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY REPAIRS. BEING THAT THE ENGINE IS STALLING THIS AND THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS, I WOULD LIKE TO BRING THIS TO THIS AGENCY'S ATTENTION. I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN AND WOULD HATE TO THINK THAT THE DEALERSHIP IS TRYING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF A WOMAN WHO IS A SENIOR CITIZEN. THE CAR WAS IN MOTION ON SURFACE STREETS BUT ALSO ON THE HIGHWAY AT ONE POINT.

DRIVING HOME A FEW WEEKS AGO MY KIA STALLED ON THE INTERSTATE, STOPPING ME IN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WITH OUT WARNING. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT SAFELY OFF THE ROAD AFTER IT STARTED BACK UP. WHEN IT STARTED IT STARTED BLOWING ALL KINDS OF WHITE SMOKE, RAN REALLY ROUGH, ALL THE DASH LIGHTS CAME ON, AND I NOTICED THE ENGINE WAS NOW KNOCKING. THE NEXT MORNING I GOT IT TOWED TO KIA DEALER WHERE THEY DID SOME WORK UNDER RECALL SC176 WHICH WAS A FAILED COMPUTER WHICH OVER HEATED THE EXHAUST CONVERTER WHICH RESULTED IN INTERNAL ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO BACK PRESSURE AND COMBUSTION. MY ENGINE NOW HAS A FAILED ENGINE CONNECTING ROD. KIA DID THE BASIC RECALL WORK BUT NOW IS REFUSING TO REPLACE THE ENGINE UNDER THEIR OWN RECALL. AS IT STATES RIGHT IN THE RECALL. IF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS DAMAGED, SUBSTRATE PARTICLES CAN ENTER THE ENGINE COMBUSTION CHAMBER AND CAUSE ABNORMAL ENGINE COMBUSTION. CONTINUOUS ABNORMAL ENGINE COMBUSTION CAN RESULT IN DAMAGE TO ONE OR MORE OF THE ENGINE'S PISTONS WHICH CAN CAUSE PISTON ROD BREAKAGE, POTENTIALLY PUNCTURING THE ENGINE BLOCK ALLOWING ENGINE OIL TO ESCAPE. ENGINE OIL THAT CONTACTS A HOT EXHAUST SURFACE MAY RESULT IN A FIRE. IN ADDITION, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WILL ALSO BE REPLACED IF IT HAS BEEN DAMAGED. DEPENDING ON THE EXTENT OF ANY DAMAGE, THE ENGINE MAY ALSO BE REPLACED. THIS CAR I HAVE OWNED SINCE BRAND NEW 1 PERSON OWNER AND WAS RUNNING PERFECT UP UNTIL THIS EVENT. THE ENGINE FAILED DUE TO THE ISSUES OF THE RECALL AND NOW THEY REFUSE TO REPLACE THE ENGINE THAT IT IS CLEARLY LISTED DIN BLACK AND WHITE ON THEIR OWN RECALL INFORMATION.

I HAVE A 2013 KIA SOUL, I HAVE BEEN PAYING MY LOAN ON THIS CAR SINCE 2016. I TAKE CARE OF IT AND ROUTINELY DO OIL CHANGES ON IT AND UP KEEP. OVER THE COURSE OF THE PAST FOUR MONTHS I NOTICED MY CAR ACTING UP, I HAD TAKEN IT TO SHOPS AND NONE COULD FIND A PROBLEM. MY CAR WAS NOT STARTING UP, I WOULD HAVE TO JIGGLE MY WHEEL TO MIRACULOUSLY GET THE VEHICLE TO START. THEN ONCE IT STARTED IT WOULDN'T ACCELERATE AND WOULD SLOWLY GO INTO NEUTRAL. PROGRESSIVELY IT GOT WORSE, MY CAR WOULD TURN OFF IF I WAS PARKED OR AT A STOP SIGN OR WHEN GOING 20MPH OR LESS. ON 12/24/2020 AS I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY I SAW SMOKE COMING FROM MY CAR. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN AS I RESTARTED IT, THERE WAS A LOUD CLANGING AND THE CAR WAS JUMPING. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID 19V120000: THE SC176 RECALL ON MY CAR WAS REPAIRED MAY 30, 2019. EARLIER THIS YEAR MY CAR BEGAN SHOWING THE SIGNS OF THE FURTHER DAMAGE NOTED IN THE RECALL DETAILS. IN APRIL 2020 MY CAR RANDOMLY STALLED WHEN IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO COAST OFF THE ROAD AND EVENTUALLY START THE CAR AGAIN. THE PANDEMIC PREVENTED ME FROM HAVING IT SERVICED AT MY KIA DEALERSHIP OR ELSEWHERE. SINCE APRIL, THIS HAS OCCURRED FIVE TIMES, BOTH ON CITY STREETS AND THE HIGHWAY WHILE IN MOTION. THE HIGHWAY EVENT WAS FRIGHTENING AS I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC TRAVELLING AT 60 MPH. MY LOCAL ONE STOP OIL CHANGE RE-OPENED AND I WAS ABLE TO GET AN OIL CHANGE MAY 5, 2020 AT 110,431, THEN AGAIN ON AUGUST 24, 2020 AT 114,121 MILES AT ONE STOP (RECEIPT ATTACHED). A WEEK LATER MY ENGINE OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON DESPITE THE RECENT OIL CHANGE. I ADDED OIL, BUT IN TWO WEEKS THE LEVEL IS AGAIN LOW AND I PUT IN 2 QUARTS. I TOOK IT TO THE KIA SERVICE CENTER SEPTEMBER 16, 2020 AT 115,179, AND THE OIL WAS AGAIN LOW AS SHOWN ON THE ATTACHED RECEIPT. KIA SERVICE WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE LOST OIL. ALTHOUGH MY CAR HAD THE REPAIR PERFORMED FOR THE RECALL, I'M AFRAID THE PISTON HAS BEEN DAMAGED, CAUSING THE ENGINE STALLS. MY OIL IS LEAKING OUT SOMEWHERE, SO I FEAR IT MAY BE THE BROKEN CONNECTING ROD THAT HAS PUNCTURED THE ENGINE BLOCK ALLOWING THE ENGINE OIL TO ESCAPE. THE KIA QUOTE FOR THE BRAKE, EXHAUST AND TIRE WORK WAS EXPENSIVE, SO I HAD A FRIEND'S EXPERT MECHANIC DO THE REPAIRS FOR LESS. HE WARNED ME THAT THE OIL WAS LEAKING OUT AND THE ENGINE MAY BLOW AND I'LL NEED A NEW ENGINE, AND STRONGLY SUGGESTED I SELL THE CAR BEFORE THAT OCCURS. I CANNOT, IN GOOD CONSCIENCE, SELL IT KNOWING THE RISK TO A NEW OWNER. I HOPE THIS EXPLANATION WILL LEAD TO KIA REPAIRING MY CAR PROPERLY.

WHILE DRIVING MY CERTIFIED 2013 KIA SOUL ON A BUSY HIGHWAY IT SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PUSH IT INTO A PARKING LOT. I OPENED THE HOOD AND FOUND OIL HAD EXPLODED EVERYWHERE SO I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO MY HOME. A MECHANIC SAID THE ENGINE THREW A ROD THAT WENT THROUGH THE BLOCK, SO THE WHOLE ENGINE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I HAD THE CAR SERVICED 2 MONTHS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE AND THEY DIDN'T ADVISE OF ANY ISSUES. AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE KIA SOUL THEY CONFIRMED KIA WAS ALREADY AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE BEFORE THE ENGINE WAS DAMAGED. WHEN I CONTACTED KIA THEY TOLD ME MY VEHICLE DIDN'T QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL, BUT SINCE THE FAILURE OF MY VEHICLE IS EXACTLY WHAT HAS HAPPENED ON OTHER VEHICLES I'M NOT SURE WHY MINE DOESN'T QUALIFY. I'M CURRENTLY WITHOUT A VEHICLE BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE THE FUNDS TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. I NEED DIRECTION ON WHAT TO DO.

I WAS HAVING ISSUES WITH A PRIOR RECALL, CONCERNING THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS AND OVERHEATING. (POTENTIALLY LEADING TO A STALL / ENGINE FIRE) I TOOK MY CAR TO THE SHOP AND WAS TOLD THEY HAD RAN THE UPGRADE AND MY CAR WAS MECHANICALLY SOUND. THROUGHOUT THE FOLLOWING YEAR, I HAD CONTACTED KIA OVER MY CAR ACTING STRANGE AND NOT ALLOWING ME TO ACCELERATE WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE CAR MAXED OUT BETWEEN 25-35 MPH ON MAJOR HIGHWAYS 4 TIMES TO DATE. I KEPT TAKING IT IN AND THEY DONE INSPECTIONS, THE CAR APPEARED IN GOOD MECHANICAL SHAPE. EXACTLY 2-3 DAYS AFTER PICKING MY CAR UP, IT STALLED ON ME AGAIN, RESULTING IN 3 SEMI TRUCKS ALMOST COLLIDING INTO ME. MY SPEED WENT FROM 75MPG DOWN TO 30MPH ON A 70MPH INTERSTATE. AFTER THE UPGRADE, MY ENGINE WOULD RANDOMLY START MAKING A CHIRPING SOUND / TICKING SOUND. SEVERAL MISFIRE CODES PRESENTED THEMSELVES THROUGHOUT THIS TIME AND YET NOTHING WAS FOUND STORED IN THE CARS COMPUTER. KIA STATED IT WAS RECALL RELATED AT ONE POINT AND WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED THE LAST ROUND, THE ENGINE AND CAR STARTED SHUDDERING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AND NOW THE ENGINE HAS A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM IT (THREW PISTON / ROD) AND KIA WILL NOT ASSIST IN THE INSPECTION OF THIS SAFETY RECALL ISSUE. KIA HAS HAD ME PAY SEVERAL TIMES FOR INSPECTIONS AND TOWING TO DATE. HUNDREDS OF OTHER OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THESE PROBLEMS AFTER THEY RECEIVED THE ECU LOGIC UPGRADE AND ALSO PRIOR TO RECEIVING IT. KIA STATED THEY WERE NOT EXACTLY SURE ABOUT MY ISSUES AND THAT THEY HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY OTHER REPORTS FROM OWNERS CONCERNING THESE MATTERS. HOWEVER, BBB AND SEVERAL ONLINE SOURCES CAN CONFIRM THAT OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THESE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS. I ALMOST LOST MY LIFE ON 4 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS DUE TO THESE SAFETY ISSUES. I HAVE FORUM SCREENSHOTS AND A VIDEO ON MY PROBLEMS. THEY ALL EXCEED 5MB. ANY OTHER WAY TO SEND? *TR

MY VEHICLE IS LOCATED IN PUERTO RICO USA. THERE IS AN ACTIVE RECALL UNDER # KIA RECALL 19V120000 HOWEVER THE LOCAL DEALER REFUSES TO ACCEPT THAT IT EXISTS. I WENT THRU EVERYTHING THAT IS DESCRIBED ON THE RECALL ON MY 2013 KIA SOUL, BUT IF YOU ENTER THE VIN NUMBER DIRECTLY ON YOUR PAGE, IT INDICATES THAT THE VIN NUMBER CAN NOT BE FOUND. ON THE OTHER HAND, IT REFERS YOU TO KIA MOTORS WHERE YOU ENTER THE VIN NUMBER AND AGAIN IT SAYS IT DOES NOT EXIST. HOWEVER, WHEN I DECIDED TO MAKE COMPLAINT VIA YOUR PAGE IT IDENTIFIES THE CAR PERFECTLY. THE QUESTION IS: WHY WONT MY VIN NUMBER APPEAR ON THE NORMAL SEARCH FOR RECALLS ON YOUR PAGE NOR ON KIA'S PAGE BUT IT CLEARLY APPEARED ONCE I STARTED MY COMPLAINT. I NEED THE LOCAL DEALER TO RECOGNIZE THAT THERE IS A RECALL AND ACT ON IT ON MY VEHICLE. PLEASE SEARCH FOR THE RECALL MENTIONED 19V120000 FROM KIA. *TR

HAD OIL CHANGE ON THE 2/24/20 RETURNED 3/7/20 ALMOST NO OIL. HE AGREED IT HAD NO OIL AND NEEDED TO RUN SOME TESTING ON IT . JON STATED I NEEDED TO PAY $99.95 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. WHY WOULD I PAY WHEN IT'S A RECALL. HE STATED MY CAR IS NOT COVERED ON THE RECALL BECAUSE MY CAR HAS HIGH MILES. TOLD HIM THAT'S ABSURD IT IS KIA RESPONSIBILITY TO TAKE OWNERSHIP FOR FAULTY ENGINES AND EQUIPMENT. THAT'S WHEN I ALSO TOLD HIM THE STEERING COLUMN IS CRANKING AGAIN. WHICH WAS A RECALL AND THEY DELAND KIA, CLAIMED TO FIX. JON STATED HE SPOKE TO KIA AND I DIDN'T QUALIFY FOR ANYTHING ONCE AGAIN STATING HIGH MILEAGE. I STATED TO JON IT HAS 154,000 MILES, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE A CAR THAT HAS NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES TO NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I FIGURED I WOULD TAKE IT TO MY MECHANIC THE NEXT DAY SINCE I DID NOT SEE, HEAR, OR SMELL ANYTHING AT THAT TIME. WITHIN 10 MINUTES, A KNOCKING NOISE STARTED UNDER MY HOOD. I IMMEDIATELY HEADED TOWARDS MY MECHANIC'S SHOP - I MADE IT 8 MILES, WITH THE KNOCKING BECOMING MORE FREQUENT, UNTIL IT STOPPED AND MY ENGINE DIED. I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE OF THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO COAST FROM THE CLOSEST EXIT RAMP INTO A GAS STATION PARKING LOT. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED THE REST OF THE WAY TO MY MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED A SPUN OR THROWN ROD BEARING. HE IDENTIFIED ONE HOLE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE - THE EJECTED PART HAD PIERCED THE ENGINE BLOCK AND MY OIL PAN. I CALLED KIA CONSUMER AFFAIRS, WHO ADVISED THIS SOUNDED LIKE AN ISSUE I SHOULD TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP TO HAVE EVALUATED FOR REPLACEMENT/REPAIR BY KIA. AS FAR AS I KNOW, THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL, BUT KIA SEEMS TO ALREADY BE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM IN SOULS AND HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL. THE REPRESENTATIVE ON THE PHONE AT KIA CONSUMER AFFAIRS SAID I "MAY NOT HAVE EVEN RECEIVED THE LETTER YET". MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PREVIOUS RECALL BUT APPEARS TO HAVE SUFFERED THE EXPECTED ISSUE. THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP, WHO COORDINATED WITH THEIR DISTRICT MANAGER AND KIA HAS AGREED TO REPAIR MY ENGINE. I AM CONCERNED THAT THEY WILL ONLY REPAIR THE DAMAGE BUT NOT ADDRESS THE ACTUAL ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO IDENTIFIED A SECOND HOLE THAT HAD BEEN MADE IN MY ENGINE BLOCK BY DEBRIS WHEN MY ENGINE BROKE DOWN.

MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY 2013 KIA SOUL, 2.0 ENGINE, ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE CAR HAD A SUDDEN LOSE OF POWER. WITHIN A MINUTE OR SO THERE WAS A LOUD POP AND SMOKE ROLLING OUT BEHIND. AFTER BEING TOWED AND INSPECTED WE SEE THAT THE OIL MID PAN FAILED. THERE IS A LARGE CRACK IN THE CAST ALUMINUM JUST BEHIND THE OIL FILTER. I WAS TOLD THIS MUCH BACK PRESSURE IN THE ENGINE PROBABLY MEANS A CLOGGED OR FAULTY CATALYTIC CONVERTER. I HAVE NOTICED A LOT OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER KIA OWNERS. CALLED KIA AND WAS TOLD THIS IN NOT COVERED BY ANY WARRANTY OR RECALL. *AS *TR

I PURCHASED MY 2013 KIA SOUL ON MAY 8, 2019. ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING. WHEN I CHECKED FOR ANY RECALLS, MY CAR HAD THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER RECALL. THIS WAS PERFORMED AT KIA DEALER IN LAKE CHARLES, LA, ON APRIL 22, 2019. THEY DID NOT REPAIR OR REPLACE ENGINE. I TOOK TO WALKER KIA IN ALEXANDRIA, LA, AND WAS TOLD MY ENGINE WAS NOT ONE "WITH THE LIFETIME WARRANTY" AND THAT IT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE ENGINE RECALL. I HAVE NOT SEEN ANYTHING REGARDING A "LIFETIME ENGINE WARRANTY". THIS CAR NEEDS NEW ENGINE. PLEASE HELP!

I WAS DRIVING MY 2013 KIA SOUL, AND I WAS TURNING ACROSS A BUSY INTERSECTION. AS I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF CROSSING THE INTERSECTION MY CAR STALLED OUT AND I WAS ALMOST IN A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. IF THE ONCOMING CAR HAD NOT SWERVED IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS COLLISION. SINCE THIS INCIDENT, MY CAR HAS BEEN TOWED TO A KIA SERVICE CENTER AND EVALUATED. THE KIA TECHNICIAN STATED THAT MY CAR HAD METAL SHAVINGS WITHIN THE CRANKSHAFT OIL PASSAGES, AND THE CRANKPINS THEMSELVES MAY BE TOO ROUGH ON THE EDGES. AS A RESULT, OIL MAY BE BLOCKED AND CAUSE THE CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS TO WEAR, WHICH WOULD THEN CAUSE THEM TO FAIL AND SEIZE THE WHOLE ENGINE. THAT, OF COURSE, WOULD CAUSE THE CAR TO STALL DURING DRIVING. THIS IS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM THAT THE OTHER KIA ENGINES WERE RECALLED FOR. IN ADDITION TO STALLING THIS COULD CAUSE THE RODS TO PIERCE THE ENGINE AND CAUSE A FIRE. MORE LIVES ARE AT RISK BECAUSE THE KIA RECALL IS NOT COMPLETE. ENGINES LIKE MINE, ARE STILL OUT THERE POSSIBLY CAUSING SERIOUS AND OR FATAL INCIDENTS. KIA NEEDS TO EXPAND THE RECALL TO THE 2. ENGINES AS WELL. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT NEEDS IMMEDIATE ACTION. PLEASE EXPAND THE RECALL AS THIS PROBLEM IS STILL CONTINUING IN OTHER KIA SOUL ENGINES NOT LISTED IN THE RECALL. *TR CONSUMER STATED MY 2013 KIA SOUL HAS BEEN TOWED TO THE DULLES KIA DEALERSHIP. THEY ARE SAYING THAT EVEN THOUGH THE ISSUE MY CAR IS HAVING IS THE SAME/ OR SIMILAR TO THE OTHER RECALLED KIA SOUL ENGINES, MY ENGINE IS NOT LISTED ON THE RECALL. SINCE IT IS NOT ON THE RECALL, I NEED A NEW ENGINE AT THE COST OF $6,200 DOLLARS. MY KIA IS A 2013, WITH 86,712 MILES ON IT.*JB

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS NOT DAMAGED; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS WAS NOT STATED AT ALL IN THE PAPERWORK FROM THE DEALER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DAMAGE TO THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE MATCHED THE FAILURE LISTED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V120000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE DEALER QUOTED A REPAIR COST OF OVER $4,000. MY VEHICLE SUFFERED NHTSA RECALL 19V120. KIA DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO INSPECT FOR ANY ENGINE DAMAGE THAT MAY HAVE OCCURRED. THEY JUST REPLACED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND DID NOT INSPECT FOR ANY ENGINE DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE SUFFERED FROM CATALYTIC CONVERTER ISSUES FOR OVER 3 YEARS AND THEY REFUSED TO SAY ANYTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. ACCORDING TO THE RECALL, IF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS DAMAGED IT MAY CAUSE ENGINE DAMAGE. WELL THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS DAMAGED AND THEY REFUSE TO DO A PROPER INSPECTION ON THE VEHICLE. I NEED THEM TO FULLY DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE AND INSPECT THE ENGINE. CORPORATE HAS REFUSED TO WORK WITH ME RESOLVING THIS MATTER. ON MONDAY 06/17/2019 AT APPROXIMATELY 4:15 I WAS ON THE EXPRESSWAY DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AROUND 60 MPH WHEN MY CAR STARTED TO MAKE A TICKING SOUND AS I ACCELERATED. THINKING MAYBE IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH MY RECENT OIL CHANGE I SO I DISMISSED IT INITIALLY. AFTER ANOTHER TEN MINUTES MY CAR I HEARD A LOUD CLANK UNDER MY CAR BUT I CONTINUED TO DRIVE THINKING I MAY HAVE RAN OVER ROAD DEBRIS. THEN I HAD A PERSON IN A WHITE ALTIMA FLAG ME DOWN AND TOLD ME I WAS ON FIRE. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER ON INTERSTATE 285 W IN ATLANTA GA AND LIFTED THE HOOD WHERE I WITNESSED MY ENGINE FLAMING FROM THE BOTTOM. I BEGAN DOWSING THE FIRE WITH MY CASE OF BOTTLED WATER TIL IT WAS UNDER CONTROL. KIA HAS A RECALL ON MY ENGINE RECALL STATUSRECALL INCOMPLETE SUMMARY KIA MOTORS HAS DECIDED THAT A DEFECT WHICH RELATES TO MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY EXISTS IN THE 2012-2016 MY KIA SOUL VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE 1.6L GASOLINE DIRECT INJECTION (GDI) ENGINE. THE DEFECT MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER DUE TO OVERHEATING, RESULTING IN ABNORMAL ENGINE COMBUSTION AND DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE PISTONS. PISTON DAMAGE CAN RESULT IN A STALL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. IF A PISTON ROD BREAKS AND PUNCTURES THE ENGINE BLOCK, OIL CAN ESCAPE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A FIRE.

FUEL EFFICIENCY HAD DECLINED GREATLY OVER PAST MONTH. CAR STOPPED WORKING AND HAD IT TOWED. THE KIA DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE STARTED BUT SAID THE ENGINE HAD A KNOCKING AND NEEDS REPLACED. HAS ONLY HAD KIA WORK ON IT AND ALL REGULAR MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN DONE. CHECKED THE RECALL AND SAY MY CAR IS NOT COVERED, YET THE ENGINE FAILED OUT OF THE BLUE WITH NO WARNING.

TAKATA RECALL : CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, STAYS ON FOR A FEW DAYS, THEN TURNS OFF FOR A FEW HOURS. THE ERROR CODE READS P0420. MY FUEL EFFICIENCY HAS SIGNIFICANTLY DROPPED AND I HAVE A SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF POWER AS MY CAR NOW STRUGGLES TO ACCELERATE. A SMELL SIMILAR TO SPRAY PAINT HAS BEEN PRESENT INSIDE THE CAR ON OCCASION. THE ENGINE HAS GROWN LOUD. HOWEVER, MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT PULLING UP ANY RECALLS. THIS DOES NOT MAKE SENSE, GIVEN MY SPECIFIC ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE.

I JUST READ ABOUT THE RECALL FOR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER OVERHEATING AND CAUSING OIL LEAKAGE. MY VIN IS NOT SHOWING UNDER THE RECALL BUT MY CAR IS LOSING OIL AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE MECHANIC SAYS IT IS GIVING THE CODE FOR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. MY CAR IS ALSO LOSING POWER AND I CAN HEAR A NOISE UNDER THE HOOD THAT SOUNDS LIKE METAL HITTING METAL. THE RECALL SAYS IT INCLUDES THE 2013 KIA SOUL WITH THE 1.6 ENGINE AND I'M WONDERING IF MINE WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.

CAR WAS LIKE NEW HAD WITH ONLY AROUND 40K MILES ON IT. WE WERE GIVING A CAR A JUMP AND SOUL CAUGHT FIRE AND LITERALLY BURNED TO THE GROUND! FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD TO COME OUT AND PUT IT OUT! IT WAS REMARKABLE! AND WE HAVE THE FIRE ON VIDEO, THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SHOWING UP, ETC. IT CAUGHT FIRE UNDER THE FRONT HOOD AND NO ONE KNOWS WHY! WE HAD JUST PAID OFF THE FINAL PAYMENT WERE WAITING FOR TITLE TO COME IN THE MAIL. NEEDLESS TO SAY AFTER PAYING IT OFF ONLY HAD REQUIRED COVERAGE AS MY MOTHER 80YRS NEVER DROVE IT AND OF COURSE IT DID NOT COVER FIRE! SHE PAID $33K FOR THE CAR JANUARY 2014, PAID IT OFF JUNE 2018 "NEW CONDITION", ONLY 40K MILES ON IT, BURNS TO THE GROUND AND IT'S OVER! NO EXPLANATION, NO COMPENSATION, NOTHING! CAR WAS PARKED AT OUR HOME AND I WAS JUMPING MY CAR WHEN IT JUST CAUGHT FIRE (FIRST TIME WAS EVER USED TO JUMP A CAR) ALWAYS FELT NO WAY SIMPLE JUMP WOULD HAVE CAUSED IT! FIRE WAS JULY 24, 2018 AT 10:48 AM UNBELIEVABLE! WE HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET ANY COOPERATION ON THIS OR UNDERSTANDING OF "WHAT HAPPENED"! WE ARE SO GLAD TO SEE YOUR REPORTS! THANK YOU! THE ENGINE IN MY 2013 KIA SOUL BLEW AT ONLY 56000 MILES. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN SHE HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE AND SHE PULLED OVER. A MAN CAME UP TO HER WINDOW AND TOLD HER THERE WAS FLAMES COMING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR. IT TURNS OUT THAT A ROD WENT THROUGH THE ENGINE BLOCK AND LEAKED ALL THE OIL OUT OF THE CAR. WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO KIA, THE SERVICE TECH ASKED ABOUT THE OIL CHANGES AND HAD MENTIONED THAT THE OEM OIL FILTER THAT KIA PUTS HAS SOME TYPE OF PRESSURE RELEASE AND WHEN YOU GET THE OIL CHANGED SOMEWHERE ELSE THEY DON'T HAVE THAT TYPE OF FILTER. I ASKED IF IT WAS REQUIRED TO HAVE THE OIL CHANGED AT A KIA DEALER AND HE SAID NO. WE HAVE HAD ALL THE OIL CHANGES UP TO DATE ON THE VEHICLE. IT IS REALLY HARD TO UNDERSTAND HOW AN ENGINE WITH 56K MILES CAN STOP.

MY SOUL BEGAN TO MAKE A TERRIBLE NOISE AT 52,000 MILES. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER BECAUSE WE HAD PURCHASED THE ADDITIONAL WARRANTY TO EXTEND IT TO 100,000 AND WAS TOLD THE ENGINE BEARINGS HAD FAILED. THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP SAID HE DIDN'T SEE MUCH SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE AND COULDN'T SEE A REASON WHY KIA WOULD DENY THE CLAIM. ALTHOUGH THE OIL HAD BEEN CHANGED APPROPRIATELY WE COULDN'T PRODUCE ALL THE DOCUMENTATION ON THE SPOT. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP TOOK VIDEO AND SENT IN TO KIA, WE WERE TOLD THAT KIA WOULD NOT HONOR THEIR WARRANTY AND WE WERE ON OUR OWN.

I PURCHASED A KIA SOUL 2013 + BRAND NEW IN 2013, ON 5/13/2017 THE CHECK OIL LIGHT CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING, I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED THE OIL AND IT WAS LOW EVEN THOUGH I HAD RECENTLY HAD THE OIL CHANGED, I PUT 2 QTS OF OIL IN THE CAR, BUT EVERY TIME I DROVE THE CAR BEGAN MAKING A NOISE WHENEVER I ACCELERATED. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ON 5/14/17 THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE NOISE PERSISTED. THOUGH THE CAR WAS STILL DRIVABLE, I HAD IT TOWED TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP ON 5/15/17 WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. LATER THAT DAY I WAS TOLD THAT THE MOTOR HAD GONE OUT IN MY CAR WHEN I ASKED WHY I WAS TOLD THAT THE MECHANIC HAD LEFT. THE FOLLOWING DAY ON 5/16/17 I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP BACK AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE SLUDGE IN MY MOTOR CAUSED FROM OIL BEING BURNED IN THE MOTOR AND THE SLUDGE WAS NOT ABLE TO FILTER THOUGH THE MOTOR. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $4220 TO REPLACE IT WITH A USED MOTOR. THE NEXT DAY ON 5/17/17 I WAS ONLINE LOOKING FOR CHEAPER MOTORS WHEN I RAN ACROSS ARTICLES REGARDING THE 2016 RECALL OF 600,000+ OTHER KIA VEHICLES ALL WITH DEFECTIVE ENGINES. AFTER READING WHAT HAPPENED TO THE OTHER ENGINES I REALIZED THAT THE SAME THING WAS HAPPENING TO MY ENGINE. I CALLED KIA CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AND A CASE WAS MADE REGARDING MY CAR. ON 5/31/17 I WAS TOLD THAT MY CASE HAD BEEN ESCALATED TO THE ESCALATION AGENT. TODAY, ON 6/5/2017 BRENDA THE ESCALATION AGENT CALLED TO NOTIFY ME THAT KIA WOULD NOT COVER MY CAR BECAUSE IT HAS OVER 100K MILES ON IT AND BECAUSE THERE IS SLUDGE LOCATED IN THE ENGINE. I TOLD YES, THAT IS WHY I WANTED KIA TO LOOK INTO IT BECAUSE IT A VEHICLE WITH BARELY 114K MILES ON IT THAT IS 4 YEARS OLD AND WITH MAINTENANCE THAT WAS KEPT UP THE ENGINE SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN BURNING OIL TO PRODUCE SLUDGE IN IT. I WAS TOLD I WOULD NEED TO REQUEST MORE WORK TO BE DONE ON THE CAR TO SEE IF THE MOTOR WAS DEFECTIVE.
