Motor is knocking

Dec 14, 2025

My Kia engine was replaced under recall. The replacement engine triggered P1326 KSDS failure while I was traveling overseas, placing the vehicle in limp mode. Kia USA refuses to assist or authorize diagnosis, leaving me stranded. This is a repeat recall-related safety failure, even though there is a Kia Dealership near me.

The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving 75 MPH, the vehicle jerked and failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. The check engine warning light was illuminated. In addition, the vehicle hesitated and failed to exceed 40 MPH. The contact exited the freeway. The vehicle was taken to Auto Zone, where it was diagnosed with a knock sensor failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the knock sensor however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle hesitated and failed to exceed 40 MPH. The contact exited the freeway with the check engine warning light intermittently illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the knock sensor had failed. The independent mechanic advised the contact to stop driving the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. Most recently, an abnormal sound was coming from the engine. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 99,000.

My truck consumes excessive engine oil.

Aug 26, 2025

My 2014 Kia Sportage experienced sudden and complete engine failure while I was driving on the highway at 75 mph. The engine locked up instantly, with no warning lights or alerts of any kind. The only prior issue was that the vehicle constantly burned oil and needed to be topped off frequently, but there was never any indication that the engine was about to fail. This sudden failure left me stranded in a dangerous situation. Thankfully, I was able to maneuver safely, but I am terrified of what could have happened to my daughter and grandson who were in the car or others on the road. Afterward, I learned that this defect was part of a recall. However, I was never notified in time. Kia Customer Service told me a notice had been sent in 2018, but my own research shows the recall was not actually issued until 2022. Because of this, I was denied the chance to have the recall repair performed before the failure. Now, Kia has refused goodwill assistance, leaving me with an $8,000+ repair bill. I am a single mother, a teacher, and caregiver to my daughter and grandson. This Sportage is the vehicle my daughter depends on to get my grandson to and from school safely. Safety Concern: This defect poses a severe safety risk. An engine seizing at highway speeds without warning could easily cause crashes, injuries, or deaths. I am deeply concerned that if Kia failed to notify me properly, other Kia owners may also be driving unsafe vehicles without realizing it. Requested Action: I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate Kia’s recall notification practices and ensure Kia is held accountable for leaving customers unprotected against such a serious safety hazard.

The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the vehicle, after which the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to restart. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V907000 (Fuel System, Gasoline, Engine); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 103,000.

I own a 2014 Kia Sportage (VIN: [XXX] ) that qualifies under Recall SC147 for engine seizure. The vehicle’s engine has seized randomly with no check engine lights. Was running and driving perfectly and shut off. However, Kia and the local dealership are refusing to repair the vehicle under the recall because the vehicle is not currently registered. This is a clear violation of NHTSA recall requirements, which mandate free recall repairs regardless of ownership or registration. I am requesting NHTSA review and enforcement. While driving on an interstate, our vehicle experienced complete engine failure. It was towed to auto garage and examined. We were advised the timing chain had stretched and there were metal shavings in the oil (only roughly 100,000 miles on vehicle). Auto garage advised this was a known issue that was associated with high engine oil consumption and that there was an engine recall. They advised we should contact a Kia dealer for repair. Contacted Kia dealer and was advised the vin for our Kia was not included in the recall, however our Kia also has the Theta 2 engine, which was the subject of the recall of other models and/or years and we are experiencing the same issues. I contacted Kia Corporate and was advised that because the vin of our vehicle was not included in the recall, they would not assist in any way. When this incident occurred, we were 200 miles from home driving on a 4 lane highway and navigating an interchange. Thankfully, we were able to navigate traffic and get to the side of the road, however we felt extremely vulnerable and unsafe, and it left us with no means to return home. Generally, my [XXX] daughter drives this vehicle and had she been driving at the time of this incident, I fear she would not have known what to do to get to safety and could have resulted in a tragedy. I believe this to be a significant safety issue that is the same or at least very closely related to the recalls already in place. We purchased this vehicle in good faith, believing the manufacturer was providing a vehicle that was safe and reliable, however that turned out not to be the case and Kia is not willing to hear our concerns or help with a solution. Please contact me if any additional information is needed and I welcome your feedback. Thank you. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Engine has failed. Mechanic at home has found aluminum shavings in the cam shaft area. This model doesn’t have a recall, but should for engine failure. I have 70,000 miles and it’s on year 10. Should be lasting longer with no engine issues. Never had prior warnings for the engine, just engine failure randomly and shavings built up. Available for inspection. Car stalled and could have resulted in accident. A few months prior, oil smell and burning occurred as well, mechanic was able to fix it. Kia has made it difficult to make an appt for an engine issue, Fette Kia in Clifton NJ says they have emergency slots, but they will only “talk” to me and not look at the car. This seems like an emergency to me. Finally made an appointment for 20 days from now at another dealership.

The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and was serviced; however, the failure persisted. After a recent failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to Infiniti of Denver (2990 S Havana St, Aurora, CO 80014) where the vehicle was diagnosed with a misfire in cylinder #2. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 111,500.

The engine stopped working. And although there was a recall on this issue the dealership is demanding i pay for the repair

Oct 11, 2023

On Sunday May 7th 2023, while traveling on the thruway, the car started to slow down and was no longer accelerating as I was pressing on the accelerator. There was a burning smell coming from the engine, causing me to cough for a week. I could not stop for a mile because there was no shoulder on that portion of the highway. I turned on my hazard lights and kept going until I pulled over a mile down at a rest stop. As soon as I took the exit into that rest stop, all the lights came on the dashboard and the car stopped on its own without me turning it off and without me making it completely into the rest stop. I had the car towed by an authorized thruway towing service to the closest shop and then had Kia tow it from that shop to Healey Brothers Kia dealership. The car does not drive at the moment and Kia does not want to assume any responsibility.

Last Tuesday I was taking my Ill mother to the Dr 30 min away. All of a sudden the engine light came on and the car died. Would not do anything after that it was 100 degrees that day I had to get a ride for my mother in the hot day back to the facility she lived call a tow truck and call the dealership where I bought the car. I had to pay for the towing and to top it off I have to pay partially for a rental car The engine is blown in the vehicle I just bought this car in april how could it of blown already? I did the oil changes and checked it also. There is a extended contract on the vehicle but it needs a engine and a starter. I'm lucky my mother was not sick after how hot is was I have made 2 payments and that's it. I think I should get money back for what I paid that's over 2000 since I bought it and for this to happen .I depend on this car for my job for apps for everything. It isn't right it wasn't disclosed to me that the engine was bad . I feel they did me wrong when I bought it .

My car won’t go up to speed and it keeps throwing out it’s the turbo boost sensor not only that I almost crashed when I pushed on the brakes a little bit

Jul 12, 2023

The motor sputtered and died. Is there an engine recall on this vehicle?

Jun 27, 2023

I was driving home from work on the expressway driving around 60 miles when my car out of no where started jerking and lost speed as driving at some points I could go over 40 I had to put my hazards on and drive at a speed of 30 on the expressway when I parked the car and put my foot on gas pedal I could not drive had a mechanic look at it they said it was my knock sensor

Jun 3, 2023

I was driving on a road with an incline and as I accelerated up the hill I lost all power in my gas pedal. At that same moment my engine light and battery light came on the dash board. I tried to pull the car over but I had no power at all. I put the car in park and it would not start again. We checked the battery and alternator and that is not the problem. It is most certainly the engine. I didn’t not get any warning lights what so ever, and it did not act funny before hand. I just suddenly lost power and had to get my car towed home.

Apr 28, 2023

The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine seized, and the vehicle lost motive power with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, the failure recurred. The contact pulled over and parked the vehicle in a parking lot. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance because the recall repair of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V051000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) had not been completed. The contact stated that she had not received the recall notification. The failure mileage was approximately 158,376.

Apr 1, 2023

My vehicle completely stalled out on the 15 freeway in Southern California, and I barely made it off of the road and had to call 911 due to the traffic coming so near to me. My vehicle was towed to the Kia dealership in Victorville, where they told me a bearing engine knock occured and I was told by them and Kia that the warranty doesn’t stand because of a previous owner to owner’s before I bought the car did not do the update they were supposed to do. It was a very very scary situation. I was on the side of the 15 freeway with a ditch beside me just waiting to get plowed down by big rigs going by me. And now I am out $8000 that I paid to purchase the car two months ago with no recourse to have it fixed because they told me it’s going to be $11,000 because the engine in my car is discontinued. I did my due diligence. I did a CARFAX and a Bumper report and because Kia and Hyundai decided this wasn’t a recall, but rather a product improvement campaign, it was not listed in any of the forms I used to do my best to find out if this car was a good car to buy.

The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that the engine was knocking. The check engine warning light was illuminated intermittently at first but had since become constant. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where the PCV valve was replaced. The dealer also performed an engine flush, and oil change, and filled the fuel tank. The contact stated that on the following day, the failure recurred with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was returned to the dealer who stated the engine could not be replaced due to the knocking not meeting the volume level required for a free engine replacement. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

2014 KIA SPORTAGE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO NHTSA SAFETY RECALL 22V-051. THE CONSUMER STATED THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME COMPLETING THE RECALL REPAIR AND TO HAVE FOUND A REMEDY.

Aug 27, 2022

My 2014 Kia Sportage has been under a recall since February of 2022. As of today, August 27, 2022, no remedy has been made available. I do not understand the unforgivable delay when the vehicle is subject to spontaneous engine fire at any time.....This is nothing short of manufacturer negligence....

Aug 8, 2022

My vehicle has a safety recall and KIA hasn't sent me a paper of when this safety recall is going to be fixed. My vehicle automatically turns on and off the check engine light and I am unsure if it's because of the safety recall.

Aug 5, 2022

We were notified of this recall in February 2022. It's now August 2022. We called the dealer repeatedly and keep getting told the part is not available yet, try back in a couple weeks. Do we have to wait until the vehicle catches fire and burns down the house or worse yet, kills someone?

Aug 4, 2022

I haven't been contacted by the manufacturer for the repairs and I fear that they will not honor the recall.

Jul 16, 2022

On May 4th, my 2014 Kia Sportage seized up, in the middle of the road, while I was driving at 60 miles per hour. I was driving my 73-year-old Mother to a funeral in Miami, Oklahoma. Kia Lawrence confirmed that it was a recall, and they verbally agreed to replace the engine. It is July 16th, and Kia Lawrence has still not replaced the engine yet.

Jul 15, 2022

I WAS DRIVING FROM WORK TO COME HOME, I NOTICE SOMTHING WAS WRONG. I PUT MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON AND THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF ROAD. I HAD ASSISTANTS HELP ME PUSHED TO THE SIDE OF ROAD. I GAVE THE CAR A FEW JUMPS STARTS BUT IT DIDN'T WORK. THEN THE VEHICLE STARTED SMOKING I WASN'T SURE WHERE IT WAS COMING FROM.CAR BEGAN TO LOSE POWER AND THEN STARTED CUTTING OUT COMPLETELY. WHICH LEAD ME TO TOW MY VEHICLE TO MY HOME. WEEKS LATER I RECECIVED A NOTICATION ABOUT A RECALL AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I NOTIFYED THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE RECALL. I WAS TOLD THEY CANT DO NOTHING UNTILL THE SECOND LETTER, ITS BEEN 4 MONTHS NOW MY CAR STILL DOESNT WORK, I'M PAYING MONTHLY PAYMENTS FOR THE VEHCILE.. TAKING PUBLIC BUSES TO GO TO WORK.IF National Highway Traffic Safety Administration REALLY CARED ABOUT OUR SAFETY IT SHOULDN'T TAKE THIS LONG TO GET THE JOB DONE.

Jul 9, 2022

For the last year my vehicle is burning oil. I service it every 3 months.. I have to put from half to a quart of oil every two weeks. I had the dealer do a soak over night and it didn’t work. That cost me 500.00. I’m on a fixed income.

Jun 24, 2022

Recall is still not available after months. I have no vehicle at the moment.

May 21, 2022

The bearings in the engine have gone bad. The motor is blown. The engine malfunctioned. It is available for inspection upon request. I was in the car with my husband and 8-month old. We were on a busy highway so it was risky to be in the middle of a highway. The problem has been confirmed by an independent service center. It has been inspected by a repair shop which is Whistler’s towing and Truck Repair. There were no symptoms of the problem prior to the failure that I know of. The engine oil pressure and tire pressure sign came on the day of the failure barely 2 minutes then the car came to a stop.

Feb 3, 2022

Engine failure. Connecting rod bearings failed. Vehicle is available for inspection. Car went into Limp mode and would not go over twenty mph on the Highway. Has been inspected by mechanic and will be examined by dealership. Check engine light came on when issue arose.

Jan 20, 2022

Engine ceased on interstate. Had to make abrupt stop. Took car into shop and found brass filings in the oil pan. Bearing on crank had ceased.

Jan 5, 2022

2014 Kia Sportage total engine failure. Vehicle briefly flashed oil pressure warning light and stalled traveling down the highway. When he vehicle was started again it had a loud engine knock. Vehicle was towed to dealership had diagnosed engine has excessive rod bearing clearance. Recommend Long block Engine replacement. $5732. Kia is denying warranty claim due to the vehicle not having a KSDS software update. Court documents show that a consumer need only go to the NHTSA website and enter their VIN number to find any open recalls including the KSDS update. My VIN shows 0 unrepaired. Kia still claims that the update was not performed and the lifetime warranty will not be honored. Being an owner since 2018, I have not been notified of a single recall, product improvement campaign, or legal settlement. Kia customer service has admitted to not having me in their system. I as a consumer had no way of knowing of any of the safety, or functional concerns of my vehicle. This same problem has been confirmed through the stories of hundreds of others. Kia needs to be held accountable. At the time of settlement, when determining the amount. The court based its numbers off of a 100% approval rating of class vehicles. Even at that time the approval rating was only at 15%. Disgusting. Most importantly, the KSDS software update does not prevent engine failure in any way. The defect is still there. Kia has not found a fix. The vehicles are still unsafe.

Jan 4, 2022

I’ve owned an Optima and a Sportage. They’ve both left me in terrible situations financially. I liked my 2014 KIA Sportage. It was well maintained and a good vehicle. I really hadn’t ran into any issues with it. Until the day after Christmas 12/26/2021. There was no indication whatsoever that there was a mechanical failure to the engine about to happen. No warning lights. Nothing. As I was running about 80 mph on 71 Southbound I started to hear a “flapping” noise. Within 5 miles, and thank the Lord I was now on an exit ramp slowing down - the engine locked up!! After doing some research I quickly found out this is a predominant issue with KIA engines. The manufacturing was faulty and it causes premature wear of the crankshaft bearing and metal shavings wrecking havoc on the engine. Due to being a secondary owner it is not under warranty and because I did not receive any notification at all from the manufacturer that there was a product improvement order for the vehicle, KIA will not assist with any of the cost. I now have a vehicle that was running just fine the day before yesterday, that has 84,000 miles on it, maintained properly, that I still owe on that does not run and is going to cost me $6,500 to get fixed. There was a class action lawsuit with a 1.3 billion dollar settlement because KIA knew they were manufacturing junk engines but apparently I missed out on that and I am not eligible due to the product improvement, that I knew nothing about, was not completed. My VIN has 0 unrepaired recalls on the KIA and the NHTSA government websites. I don’t understand how it’s not a safety recall. I keep reminding myself that things could’ve been worse and I am leaning on my faith to help me remain as calm about the situation as possible.

Dec 30, 2021

There are moments when I am driving that the vehicle will suddenly decelerate for no reason. At that point, I have to pull over, turn the vehicle off and then back on for it to move. This is frightening at the least as it happens with no warning and sometimes I'm on the freeway. I have had a couple of mechanics look at it and they can't figure out why it does this. I've asked Kia twice and they don't give a response. I'm afraid that it will happen one day when I'm not in a position to pull over without getting hit.

The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving 55 mph, he began to hear an abnormal noise coming from the engine. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to park on the side of the road but did not hear the abnormal noise anymore. The contact stated that he decided to continue driving, but the engine then seized shortly after. The contact was able to restart to the vehicle but continued to hear the abnormal noise getting louder. The contact was able to park on the side of the road. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer and was informed that the engine needed to be replaced, due to not having the knock sensor software updated. Low oil light had turned on and some strange noises began to sound coming from the front of the vehicle. The oil level however, did not seem terribly low, though new oil had been added to the vehicle nonetheless while waiting for a maintenance appointment the next day. While driving the vehicle later on that same night, the battery light, and check engine light suddenly came on and the vehicle began to shut down, thus forcing us to come to a stop in the middle of the road. Once towed and assessed the following day, I was informed that it had been engine failure and would in turn require a new engine.

Was driving 50 mph on highway when a loud band and sudden loss of power came from engine. Veered car to breakdown lane. Engine oil all over road. Total loss of engine oil. A screw blew a hole in the engine (two private mechanics confirmed this). Car has now been sitting at Kia dealer for 3 weeks and they claim they cannot look at it for a month (must be a lot of blown engines in their lot?) Only 83,000 miles on car.

MY DASHBOARD 'ENGINE' LIGHT POPPED ON AND WITHIN MINUTES I DROVE IT TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC TO BE IMMEDIATELY SCANNED AND THE SCAN CODE READ, #POO14 AT THAT MOMENT MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THE "THETA II" ENGINE WAS IN FACT RECALLED BUT I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED EVER BY THE DEALERSHIP!!! AT THE TIME MY VEHICLE WAS MOVING IN A 35MPH ZONE ON A CITY STREET. AFTER THE SCAN I BACKED IT OUT OF THE BAY TO PARK IT AND THEN THE MOTOR JUST "LOCKED UP & SEIZED" I IMMEDIATELY CALLED KIA ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND WAS TOLD THEY DO NOT TOW. I THEN CALLED FUCILLO KIA WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND PRETTY MUCH GOT THE TYPICAL "BIG DEALER" RUN AROUND. I THEN CALLED SOMEONE WITH A BIGGER PAY GRADE THAT COULD POSSIBLY ADVISE ME WHAT TO DO HERE. THIS SUPERVISOR EXPLAINED THAT THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE TO GET THE VEHICLE "IN HOUSE" TO FIX THIS ISSUE. I CONTACTED MY INSURANCE CO. BUT DID NOT HAVE TOWING ON MY POLICY. THEY WERE BAFFLED THAT KIA SAID IT WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO GET IT TOWED TO DEALERSHIP! MIND YOU THAT I IMMEDIATELY LOST MY PART TIME AND REALLY CANT AFFORD A HUGE TOWING BILL! IT SEEMS TO ME THAT I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO FEEL THAT THIS IS ALL MY FAULT ! YOU WOULD THINK THAT MY 10YR/100,000MI WARRANTY SHOULD JUMP ON THIS. I PRESENTLY HAVE 64,857MI ON ODOMETER . NOTICED A KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM MY ENGINE WHILE IDOLING WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE IT SEEMED AS THOUGH MY CAR WAS LOSING POWER AND THE KNOCKING NOISE WAS GETTING LOUDERAND FASTER. WHILE BREAKING MY ENGINE WOULD KNOCK AND MY CAR WOULD SLIGHTLY JERK. I HAVEN'T DROVE MY CAR IN 4 DAYS BECAUSE IT WAS ACTING THIS WAY ON BACK ROADS, NO WAY I'D TRUST IT ON A HIGHWAY. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 90,000 MILES.

THIS VEHICKE WAS PURCHASED NEW IN MARCH OF 2014. I AM THE ORIGINALK OWNER. WHILE MAKING AN OUT OF TOWN TRIP THE VEHICLE HAD A LOUND KNOCKING NOISE AND LOST POWER. I TOOK THE VEHICKLE TO AN INDEPENDENT GARAGE. THE INFOMRED ME THAT THE OIL PUMP QUIT FUNCTIONING AND THAT CAUSED THE MOTOR TO THROW A ROD. WHEN THIS OCCURED THE VEHICLE HAD 86,000 MILES ON IT. KIA HAS A 10 YEAR 100,000 MILE WARRANTY. ADDITIONALLY, I PURHCASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FROIM THE DEALERSHIP THAT WOULD COVER THE POWER TRAIN FOR 20 YEARS AND 200,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DELIVERED TO A KIA DELAERSHIP AND SO FAR I AM HEARING EXCUSES ON WHY THEY WILL NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY. THIS IS DESPITE THE FACT I HAVE PERFORMED REGUALR OIL CHANGES WITH FULL SYNTHETIC OIL SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE.

WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, 45MIN DRIVE. 10MIN LEFT IN THE DRIVE, SHE STARTED HEARING A NOISE FROM THE ENGINE AND LOSS OF POWER. LUCKILY SHE WAS ABLE TO COAST THE WAY HOME, BUT AFTER 2 MECHANIC OPINIONS, IT IS A DEAD ENGINE DUE TO THE TICKING/CLANKING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE. FIRST MECHANIC SAID PISTON ISSUE (WITHOUT DIAGNOSTICS), SECOND SAID METAL SHAVINGS AND THE ENGINE BASICALLY KILLED ITSELF. I MADE SURE THIS CAR HAD ON-TIME OIL CHANGES AND AT 116K MILES WAS JUST ABOUT TO DO A FULL SPARKPLUG/100K MILEAGE TUNE-UP. WHEN WILL KIA UNDERSTAND THAT 2011-2013 MODELS ARE NOT THE ONLY MODELS EFFECTED BY THESE ENGINE ISSUES?! WE NOW ARE DOWN A CAR, STILL OWE ON IT, (I BELIEVE) AT NO FAULT TO OUR OWN. KIA DID SEND OUT AN ECU UPDATE (FEB15/19) THAT (PER A KIA DEALERSHIP EMPLOYEE) WARRANTIES THE ENGINE FOR THE LIFE OF THE ENGINE, BUT WHAT ABOUT PEOPLE WHO HAVE ALREADY BEEN EFFECTED WITH THESE ISSUES?!

WHEN I DID AN OIL CHANGE ON MY SPORTAGE I TURNED ON MY CAR AND IT STARTED MAKING A LOUD NOISE AND IT WAS SHAKING WITH ALOT OF TURBULENCE, IT WAS YANKING AND FORCING ITSELF IT FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO SHUT DOWN IT WAS A SCARY FEELING SINCE I WAS DRIVING IT AND ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WENT TO BEING DRIVEABLE UP TO 20 TO 15 MPH. I SAW THERE'S A RECALL ON THE HYUNDAI AND KIA, INCLUDED ARE THE 2013'2014 HYUNDAI SONATA AND SANTA FE, 2011'2014KIA SPORTAGE, 2011'2014 OPTIMA, AND 2012'2014 SORENTO. DURING MACHINING OF THE ENGINE CRANKSHAFT AND CRANKPINS, METAL SHAVINGS MAY HAVE BEEN LEFT WITHIN THE CRANKSHAFT OIL PASSAGES, AND THE CRANKPINS THEMSELVES MAY BE TOO ROUGH ON THE EDGES. AS A RESULT, OIL MAY BE BLOCKED AND CAUSE THE CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS TO WEAR, WHICH WOULD THEN CAUSE THEM TO FAIL AND SEIZE THE WHOLE ENGINE. THAT, OF COURSE, WOULD CAUSE THE CAR TO STALL DURING DRIVING.

ENGINE SEIZED WHILE DRIVING ON LOCAL ROAD, APPROX 30 MPH. LUCKILY, I WAS NOT DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65MPH WHERE THE CAR COULD HAVE POSSIBLY SEIZED. CAR WAS TOWED TO LOCAL MECHANIC. AFTER INSPECTION BY LOCAL MECHANIC, WAS TOLD THE ENGINE WAS BONE DRY ALTHOUGH I HAD AN OIL CHANGE 2 MONTHS PRIOR. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO KIA DEALERSHIP. WAS TOLD BY TECH THAT THERE WAS A FLAG IN THE SYSTEM AFTER I BROUGHT UP SC147 (ENGINE SEIZURE RECALL). TWO WEEKS LATER, WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO MY VIN. I HAD NO WARNING INDICATIONS WHEN ENGINE SEIZED. WAS NEVER TOLD THE WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED TO 120,000 MILES. I PREVIOUSLY HAD AN ENGINE WARNING LIGHT AROUND 108,000 MILES AND LOCAL MECHANIC TOLD ME I HAD LOW OIL. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED BY KIA REGARDING THIS SERVICE RECALL. NOW I AM BEING TOLD I CANNOT BE GRANDFATHERED IN TO THE 120,000 EXTENDED MILEAGE (I AM CURRENTLY AT 124,000) BECAUSE MY OIL CHANGES WERE PERFORMED OUTSIDE OF KIA SERVICE CENTER. FLAG IN THE SYSTEM, NEVER NOTIFIED, ENGINE SEIZED, BEING TOLD IT WAS AN INTERNAL COMPONENT FAILURE, BEING TOLD NOT RELATED TO SERVICE RECALL. SEEMS LIKE A BUNCH OF NONSENSE TO ME. SC147 COVERS SPORTAGE 11'-13' AND SORENTO 12'-14' AND OPTIMA 14'... ALL HAVE SAME 2.4L GDI ENGINE LIKE MINE. WAITING FOR OVER AN HOUR ON THE PHONE WITH KIA CONSUMER ASSISTANCE FOR FURTHER HELP.

WHILE DRIVING MY LEASED 2014 KIA SPORTAGE, THERE WAS NONSTOP CONTINUOUS HESITATION "BUCKING", WITH WHITE SMOKE BLOWING OUT OF THE TAILPIPE, LOSS OF SPEED THEREFORE HAVING TO PRESS HARD ON GAS PEDAL TO AVOID ACCIDENT BY TRYING PULL OFF ROAD. THIS HAPPENS ON CITY ROADS AND HIGHWAY. NO DASHBOARD LIGHT INDICATED THERE WAS A PROBLEM. THE SERVICE ADVISOR AT DESTINATION KIA SAID MY MODEL DOES NOT COME WITH WARNING LIGHTS. IT APPEARS TO BE AN OIL PROBLEM. OIL LEVEL GOES DOWN WITH NO VISIBLE SIGNS OF LEAKING. I ONLY HAVE 24,000 ON MY KIA SPORTAGE, WITH ONE YEAR LEFT ON MY LEASE. I AM NOT ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AS I AM IN FEAR OF STALLING IN TRAFFIC CAUSING MYSELF OR OTHERS TO BE INJURED.
