On 11/21/2025, while operating my vehicle, I experienced a critical engine failure. The engine failed a compression test, with readings as follows: Cylinder 1: 125 PSI Cylinder 2: 60 PSI Cylinder 3: 25 PSI Cylinder 4: 3 PSI As a result, the engine had no compression in multiple cylinders, preventing the vehicle from starting. The vehicle exhibited [smoke, stalling, or other observable symptoms]. This failure appears consistent with known issues in the Theta 2 GDI engines, including risk of engine failure or fire. I had not received notification of any required software updates or recalls relevant to this issue. Despite multiple attempts to resolve this with the dealer, including [dates of service attempts], the dealer refused to cover a replacement engine under warranty. Impact on Safety: The sudden engine failure rendered the vehicle inoperable and posed a significant safety risk due to the potential for stalling or fire while driving. Additional Notes: I am submitting this report to request that the NHTSA investigate this potential safety defect.
On November 2, while driving my 10-year-old son to a soccer game, the vehicle suffered a sudden loss of power at road speed. The vehicle's failure to provide a "limp-home mode" or any sensor warnings prior to stalling created a significant life-safety risk for my son and me as we had to coast across traffic to a safe location where the car stalled. •No Warning Indicators: There were no prior "Check Engine" lights, oil pressure warnings, or temperature fluctuations. •Hazardous Failure Mode: The vehicle stalled completely in active traffic. I was forced to perform an emergency maneuver, coasting across lanes of traffic to reach a safe shoulder. •Outcome: The vehicle was towed to Ourisman Kia of Bethesda, where service technicians diagnosed "severe internal engine failure."
October 2, 2025 no oil in engine. car has always had regular oil maintenance. Dealer put almost four quarts of oil in car to start an Oil Consumption Test of 1,000 miles. November 22, 2025 driving about 70 miles an hour, on the 241 Toll Road car loses powder, speed dropped to about 20 miles an hour. I was able to make it to the highway shoulder where the engine struggled to stay running. I cut the engine off and it would not start again. Had to be towed to Covina Kia. Still had over three hundred miles before the 1,000 mile test. Last oil change July 9, 2025 at Covina Kia. I bought my 2017 Kia Sportage in October 2016 brand new. I'm the only one to drive it. I have always taken it back to dealer for servicing. All my oil changes were done with the dealer and on time. I understand there is a class action lawsuit against kia for oil starvation and engines seizing, (theta II sc147). All indications suggests my engine also suffered the same manufacturer defect as claimed in the lawsuit. AND I WANT TO BE COMPENSATED KIA Manufacturer is aware of there engine problems and should be more proactive, before someone is killed
My wife was driving home from work on 10-15-2025 when the car started to lose power and started shaking, vibrating really bad. She got off the exit and at the red light and it died. She called me crying and scared. She started the car back up to try to get the car home and she said the car is vibrating and shaking really bad and I’m so scared and it died again in traffic. I told her to pull over and I would come get her and she did make it home. I look at the car and found it had a misfire on cylinder 2. Cylinder 2 had NO COMPRESSION. I did take it to Kia and they confirmed the diagnosis. Here is where the problem lies. The technician that scanned my car purposely miss diagnosed it. He wrote it only had burnt valves and cylinder. He never said anything about the hole in my piston. He took a picture of it and it has a hole on top. He said the car was drivable; are you kidding me. When you start the car the voice comes over the speakers and says the computer has detected a major engine problem. My cars vin # confirms that it qualifies for the class actions settlement because of the engine that is in the car. They are known to fail because of excessive oil use, starvation of oil, bad piston rings, bad rod bearings. We have been without her car since this happened. Kia said the car was drivable and I can promise you it is not. This car is not safe at all to drive. It loss all power in traffic and it kept dying.
My Kia engine has failed and Kia is refusing to submit or honor my engine replacement claim under the known engine defect class action/recall. The dealer told me that the claim cannot be submitted because a prior owner did not receive the KSDS (Knock Sensor Detection System) software update. Kia then changed their reasoning and stated the engine failure was “for another reason,” but still refuses to provide documentation or allow the claim to be processed. I was left without a vehicle, charged excessive diagnostic fees, and stranded in dangerous winter weather conditions (around -30°F wind chills). The dealership refuses to send the engine claim to Kia, stating the “missing KSDS update” as the justification, even though the engine failure was unrelated to that software and the recall states that Kia must prove the update’s absence caused the failure before denying coverage. Kia’s refusal has resulted in an unexpected repair estimate of approximately $6,000, no loaner vehicle, and severe hardship. Their actions appear to violate recall obligations and consumer safety protections, as I am being denied a known-defective engine replacement due to a prior owner’s failure to complete a software update. I am requesting investigation and intervention, as Kia is not honoring the recall process or the class action settlement requirements.
Car shut off middle of driving. mechanic said engine is seized, and no oil in engine. car has always had regular oil maintenance. there is a class action lawsuit against kia for oil starvation and engines seizing, (theta II sc147). last oil change was ~4,500 miles ago. all indications suggests my engine also suffered the same manufacturer defect as claimed in the lawsuit. Balise Kia in West Springfield MA refuses to do the inspection of the engine without proof of every single oil change since i purchased the vehicle in 2016, which is an impossible request. Corporate also stated that it is the dealership's discretion to demand oil receipts, even though I offered to print credit card statements instead, and I purchased a car fax report that has them listed beginning in 2019, but unfortunately none reported before then. I provided them with receipts of no oil changes missed since 2024. still denied the inspection. there were no warning lights prior to the engine seizing.
While driving on the parkway with my child and younger cousin in the vehicle, the car unexpectedly began to decelerate without warning. I safely pulled over to the side of the road and turned the vehicle off. When attempting to restart it, the engine would not crank or turn on. Moments later, smoke began to appear from under the hood. Additionally, the engine, battery, and oil warning lights illuminated on the dashboard. This incident created a dangerous situation and raised serious safety concerns regarding the reliability of the vehicle.
I was sold a Kia sportage 2017 in February. I was told this vehicle has no after market parts. After my vehicle catching fire and seizing on me June 26th of this year so 4 months after buying the vehicle. It was discovered that an after market starter is indeed in this vehicle with loose wiring. I could have lost my life on my way home. The dealership has been nothing but a pain since this experience I have encountered. My insurance was involved but was told I need to bring this issue to Kia. Contacted Demontround Kia multiple times was never helped once. Contacted Kia customer care. I have a claims agent who has been no help whatsoever. I was told to get my car towed to West side Kia, which they have been rude from the start and have been no help. They actually want me to come out out of pocket for engine related damages that was not my fault given that I’ve only had the car for four months before the engine seized on me and caught fire on my way home from work. When I told a server worker at Westside that I don’t believe that I should be paying out of pocket he had somebody else contact me. They emailed me that same day to call them as soon as I can. I called them immediately after I got the email and didn’t even receive an answer. Nora call back and I called multiple times for the next consecutive days and I finally get an email saying sorry they were moving buildings that is very unprofessional. There was no point to email me originally to tell me to contact you then.

2017 Kia Sportage while driving on the highway, the vehical starting losing power and shaking, it lost power and several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with engine failure and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the same diagnostic test information was provided. The Kia dealer said that the engine needed to be replaced, but since it was not the rod, but only the #4 cylinder it would not be under the extended warranty. The vehicle has not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and we were denied extended coverage. In addition to this, the electrical system has been failing and the windows would not roll up, this was fixed before the engine failure, but the drivers side door still does not unlock without the key. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.
Car started having issues with retaining oil and was blowing oil out of the oil fil cap, oil changes were being performed every 3 weeks due to continued oil loss without cause. Car started shaking while driving on the highway, check engine light started flashing and car lost all power. Car was towed from highway to KIA authorized dealer where they performed a full engine replacement, replaced serpentine belt, oil filter and air filters. Picked up vehicle from dealership approx. 2 weeks later, engine was still blowing oil out of oil fill cap and entire vehicle smelled like used oil. Dealership also refilled engine with wrong type of oil upon replacement of engine. Car requires 5W-20, dealership put in 5W-30 instead of correct oil.
On October 16, 2025 my car lost ability to accelerate while driving on highway. Just as the car was losing motive power the engine light came on. Car was then towed to a mechanic. After looking at the car the mechanic reported that the engine had seized and I would need a new engine. The mechanic was able to get the engine moving. The week before I had put oil in the car as I noticed it was going through oil faster.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that while accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. The contact stated that the vehicle drove 2 MPH for approximately 2 minutes and was jerking abnormally. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving at various speeds. The check engine and the brake warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the used car dealer where it was purchased. The dealer replaced an unknown sensor; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 126,983.

Car starting shaking violently while on the highway. Daughter pulled over and parked car on side of road. Had to have car towed as it would not restart. Engine failure.
Blown engine P1236 knock sensor circuit
I have documented oil consumption issue since 65,000 miles. Every time I got an oil change after that, I would have very low oil. When I told Kia, they told me that the engine would have to "blow up" for anything to be done. This all occurred before my 100,000 mile powertrain was expired. On July 2, 2025, my car began shaking and jumping while I was driving and any time I had the brake on at a red light. I took it to Midas for a diagnostic test and they said that 3 out of the 4 cylinders were misfiring. They told me to take it immediately to Kia. When I took it, they said they would do a diagnostic test. They said that one of the cylinders were misfiring and that I would need a new engine. At this time I was at approximately 113,;000 miles. I opened a claim with Kia and for a month, the only correpondence I had with them was when I called either Kia Corporate or Kia service where my car was. They never helped me, only told me I could get a new car and they would give me "a deal". I finally got in touch with a local mechanic and he said he wanted to look at the car. When I went to Kia to pick it up, it would not start, even when one of their mechanics jumped it. The local mechanic towed it for me, but not before Kia made me pay over $400 to take a car that did not run. They would not give me the keys until I paid. The local mechanic found that I had a cracked spark plug and had my car running in a day. I am appalled at how I was treated and how Kia would not stand by their car and then tried to get me to buy a new one. My car was well taken care of and it should not have needed a new engine, had oil consumption problems or should have been sitting in service for a month. Something needs to be done so that this does not happen again. There is a Facebook page dedicated to Kia engines and the stories are very similar to mine. This is not right.
We had to take the car to a mechanic to have the engine replaced because it started making a loud noise and then stopped running. They advised us that because it has less than 150,000 miles, it should be covered by KIA. We spoke to KIA and they told us that because we missed 2 recalls that we were never notified about it would not be covered. If the recalls would have been done, they would cover the damages. We purchased the car a couple of years ago from my sister in law who got it when my father in law passed away in 2019. I checked with her and she never received the recalls and we never received them. Therefore, since neither of us knew about the recalls they were not done. I spoke to someone at NHTSA and they advised me to file a complaint. They don't have records of where the recalls were mailed. We are having to pay $4500 out of pocket due to this issue. Please advise if there is something that you can do to help get KIA to reimburse us or the damages that should be covered by them. My cell # is [XXX] . The contact owned a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving at 75 MPH, she observed black smoke emanating from the engine compartment. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway and switch the vehicle off. After a visual inspection, she observed flames within the engine compartment emanating from a source unknown to the contact. Local emergency service arrived and was able to extinguish the fire, later attributing the fire to an unspecified equipment failure. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed a total loss by the contact's insurance provider. A fire report was filed. A police report was not filed, and no injuries were reported. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 149,000.

Engine light came on flashing on the dash. Went to O’reily auto shop to get it checked and their scanner discovered P1326 code, “knocking sensor” and oil light came on and flashing as well. The motor oil was replaced about a month ago. Checked the oil dip stick and it was below the first dot.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the failure occurred while traveling across two States. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who advised the contact to tow the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was towed to the residence of the contact's brother while waiting for a scheduled appointment with the dealer. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that an unknown software update was needed. The vehicle was repaired. Additionally, the contact was informed that the second unknown software update was part of an unknown special program. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.

Burning oil. Having to put a quart of oil every 1-2weeks with less then 500 miles used. Local dealer won’t do anything about it.
Oil change completed on 6/19/2025 Noticed oil leaking 3-4 days after change. Performance Plus, came to my work and inspected oil leakage. They stated the leak was coming from the oil pressure switch. I had the engine recall completed less than a year ago. Is this something that's still under warranty?
I was driving down the hiway and my vehicle just shut down without warning. Kia will fix for $12,000 . This is unfair I feel it should be fixed this happened almost a years ago and still nothing!
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact was continually checking the engine oil level. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the oil level was extremely low while receiving an oil change. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

The car is going through oil at a ridiculous rate. I have checked and it is not leaking. It is causing poor acceleration and driving performance. I make sure there is also oil in there but I should not have to do it as often as I do.
1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The engine failed while driving ([XXX])—specifically, the engine seized and became inoperable while driving on the interstate. Yes, the engine is still available for inspection upon request. (Currently at the dealership - due to overheating while driving (after engine had been replaced on 3/26/2025) 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? On [XXX], the engine failure occurred while the vehicle was in motion, causing a sudden loss of power and steering assist. This placed me and other drivers at serious risk, especially since it happened on the interstate and I was unable to maneuver or accelerate safely. On [XXX], the engine overheated in severe, bumper to bumper traffic. The owner’s safety was put at risk due to the high volume of traffic and little options to pull over. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, the engine failure has been confirmed by both an independent mechanic and a Kia dealership. They diagnosed the engine as seized and non-repairable without a full engine replacement. Engine was replaced by Kia on March 26-28, 2025 and returned to the owner on March 28,2025. At the dealership's recommendation the owner replaced all the hoses and belts. Owner was assured all fluids had been refilled and engine repair was complete. Engine overheated while driving in Atlanta on [XXX]. Vehicle was towed back to the dealership due to the overheating and the noises coming from the engine compartment while running. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? So far, the engine has been inspected by the Kia dealership's service department and the engine was replaced on March 26-28,2025 To my knowledge, the manufacturer has not inspected the vehicle. On August 17, 2024, my 2017 Kia Sportage suddenly lost power on the highway. The check engine light came on seconds before the engine seized completely. I was able to pull into the breakdown lane because I was already in the exit lane. It was a very frightening moment and could have been dangerous if I had been in a different lane or in heavier traffic. Component that Failed: The engine seized. The dealership found burned holes in the valves of cylinders 2 and 4. The vehicle is still in my possession and available for inspection. Safety Risk: Sudden loss of power on a highway placed me and others at risk of a serious accident at high speeds. Confirmed by Dealer: The dealer confirmed valve damage and misfire codes. Root cause was not confirmed. Inspected: The vehicle was not fully inspected by an authorized Kia dealer. Kia observed burned valves and did not investigate further into the engine to identify the cause. Warnings Prior to Failure: The check engine light came on minutes before the failure. No prior symptoms. Assessment: Rod bearing failure is suspected due to the sudden engine seizure. During the first visit to the dealership, a diagnostic fee was paid, but Kia stopped investigating after discovering burned valves. On the second visit, the dealership attempted but did not complete the bearing clearance test. They also chose not to open a Techline case, which is required under Kia’s own NHTSA-documented bearing clearance test procedures (TSB SST067 Rev 2) when the test cannot be completed. Kia has provided incomplete diagnostics and avoided further investigation, leaving me without answers. I was told I need a new engine, but I have never been told what actually caused the failure.
I have had this car not even two years and until 8 months ago I never had issues but now it has been burning/draining the engine oil like crazy. I mean every three days I have to put about 4 quarts with how bad it goes. I've already checked for leaks and anything burning from the exhaust and there's nothing. I've called Kia and they want me to pay $200 just for them to diagnose it and not fix anything. It puts me and my sisters safety on the line because it jerks whenever it is low and then whenever it is idle. This hasn't been recreated/replicated by a dealer as I don't have the funds for them to check. There aren't any warning lights or sensors telling me anything. It's gotten to a point where I'm just not sure what else to do and I've done research where in the past, this car specifically has this kind of problem yet it shows no current recalls of it.
Kia when producing the engine left metal shavings that they didn't blow out. This lead them to put a KSDS sensor in. The sensor just let's you know of a catastrophic engine failure. It did not fix the problem. This is leading to engine failures and kia finding loop holes to not replace them. This is kia neglect not the consumer. They are finding ways to blame the consumer for maintenance records to deny an engine replacement.
My Kia engine is blown.Kia engine rod bearing failed due to metal shavings when they made the engine. They didn't blow the shavings out. They are stating it's my fault do to lack of maintenance records they will not replace my engine. This is there loophole in the lawsuit to deny people of there claims.
I own a 2017 Kia Sportage, and I recently experienced a malfunction indicator engine light turning on. Upon diagnosis by Kia Russ Darrow at Odana Rd Madison, WI , the vehicle displayed DTC P001000 – ‘A (Intake)’ Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit (Bank 1). They have noticed oil leakage around the E-CVVT motor plug area. It pointed to camshaft position sensor malfunction and Kia service say what the vehicle needs is a CVVT cover and seals/gaskets relating to the variable valve timing on the camshaft as it’s throwing the camshaft sensor circuit “high” voltage Kia has issued Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) SA305, which acknowledges a similar problem in earlier production models of the same vehicle (built from December 10, 2015 – September 12, 2016). However, my vehicle was manufactured in January 2017, and Kia has not yet included it in the affected range. Despite this, I am experiencing the exact same issue outlined in the TSB. This failure poses a potential safety risk because it can affect engine performance and reliability. If left unaddressed, it could lead to unexpected engine stalling, loss of power while driving, or further engine damage, creating a hazardous situation. I have not yet received confirmation from Kia regarding an official recall or warranty extension for my vehicle, but the symptoms are identical to those covered under SA305. The issue has been reproduced and confirmed by a mechanic, and I am currently in the process of contacting Kia for further inspection and assistance. There were no prior warning messages, aside from the Check Engine Light (MIL) illuminating when the problem first occurred. This complaint is being submitted to request an investigation into whether this defect extends beyond the current TSB range and to determine if additional 2017 Sportage models should be included in a service action or recall to prevent safety risks. The affected component is available for inspection upon request.
9 weeks ago, my daughter was driving my car with my [XXX] grandson. While she was driving it, it went into limp mode on her. She was close to home, thank goodness. There were no warning signs prior to the limp mode. We had it towed to Columbia Ford Kia in Columbia, CT. They found there was no compression and a burnt exhaust valve which these vehicles are notorious for. The 100,000 mile Kia warranty claims it won’t be covered due to normal wear and tear. When we purchased the car, we bought the extended warranty. Currently, the dealership is breaking down the engine to find the reason for the burnt exhaust valve. Then an inspector from the extended warranty will decide if it is covered. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Component/System Failure: Multiple issues have occurred with the vehicle, starting with the windows not functioning shortly after purchase. The most severe issue occurred when the engine failed completely, causing it to shut down in the middle of a busy intersection during rush hour. This left the car non-functional and posed significant safety risks. In addition, the fuel system consistently becomes contaminated, despite following proper fuel maintenance practices like using high-quality fuel and regularly using a system cleaner. Is the Component Available for Inspection Upon Request? It's important to confirm whether the damaged components (like the engine or fuel system parts) are available for inspection by a dealer, an independent service center, or the manufacturer. If you haven't already, request documentation or access to the faulty components so that experts can inspect them and provide insight into what went wrong. Safety Risk: The engine failure in the middle of a busy intersection during rush hour was a major safety risk, not just to you but to other drivers as well. An unexpected engine failure at such a critical time could have led to accidents, making it clear that there’s a serious safety concern that needs addressing immediately. Even if the fuel system issue isn’t as immediately dangerous, it still affects the vehicle’s performance and longevity. Problem Reproduced or Confirmed by Dealer or Service Center? Has a dealer or an independent service center been able to reproduce or confirm these problems? If not, it may help to schedule an appointment for a detailed inspection. If the dealer or service center has acknowledged the issues, ensure you have written confirmation or a detailed report. Inspection by Manufacturer, Police, or Insurance? Kia dealership finally took it in broke down the engine and wasn't fully clear what is causing the problem, my extended warranty sent a inspection but is taking way more time then what should be allowed

I bought a 2017 Kia Sportage with a salvage title at auction on [XXX] for my wife, [XXX]. It had 57,463 miles on the engine. Before it reached the 60,000-mile warranty limit (only for non-salvage title vehicles), it showed error code P1326 and went into limp mode which makes the vehicle drive at a very slow speed to avoid damage to the engine. For an explanation of limp mode, go to the web address below: [XXX] Despite my wife's Kia Sportage NOT being under warranty, the vehicle's electronic system takes control and slows the vehicle making it unsafe for continued driving. Despite the KIA manufacturer no longer having a financial interest in a non-warranted vehicle, their electronics system prevents me from managing or using my vehicle. The dealerships will not do any repairs or bypass the control system and their only solution is an expensive engine replacement. 1. January 9, 2025 I bought a new 2017 KIA Sportage from Bob Bell KIA-Glen Burnie July of 2017. All oil changes have been performed up-to-date and regularly as advised. When Bob Bell-Glen Burnie no longer serviced KIA, I started taking my vehicle to KIA-Eastern Avenue (Baltimore). The oil consumption issue started during the time I was taking my vehicle to KIA-Eastern Avenue for services. Throughout this entire process, I received mixed messages from KIA-Eastern Avenue, JBA KIA-Glen Burnie, and Johnson KIA-Annapolis about how often to change the oil. Depending on which Advisor at each dealership I spoke with – one would say change the oil every three thousand miles another would say every five thousand miles. As of late, one of the Advisors (Johnson KIA-Annapolis) even told me over the phone that I should change the oil every 2500 miles as that is what he does for his car – thankfully, I happen to be a customer that knows better than that. Unfortunately, his poor advice reminds me of the poor customer service dealing with KIA-Eastern Avenue, which is why I chose to deal no longer with them and take my vehicle to Johnson KIA-Annapolis with the hopes of getting better service. Advisor was kind enough to verify my information in Johnson KIA’s system and had to make a couple of corrections - one being my name misspelled and the other being someone entered into the system that I was not the original owner of my car when in fact I bought it off the Bob Bell KIA-Glen Burnie lot, brand new. In September of 2023, after my car went limp on the highway due to a knock engine sensor, I had my car towed to Johnson KIA-Annapolis (see Invoice XXX). They performed a BCT and decided that my car was one that did not fit the requirements for a new engine. excessive engine oil consumption, 2 quarts every 1,000 miles. which prompts me to change spark plugs every 10,000 miles because they get so fouled up. this has been going on since 55,000 miles and now have 80,000 miles, it started with .5 quart and now it is up to 2 quarts.
High oil consumption and engine noise and metal residue with each engine oil change
The engine consumes oil excessively, oil changes have been done at dealer well before service intervals since brand new and it consumes oil to the point we add oil within a week of oil change. Engine seals have very minor seepage but no active drips or leaks. The oil consumption has lead to weak engine internals were I am now experiencing a cylinder 2 misfire, burnt exhaust valve, among other issues and the dealership will not stand behind the class action lawsuit and extended warranty over this engine, quoting me over $7k for an engine that was defective and poorly built from factory.
On November 8, 2024 a large oil leak was noticed where the Kia Sportage had been parked. When the oil was checked it was empty. There had been no warning lights prior to this occurring and I have always provided maintenance to this vehicle. The car was towed by AAA to a local Kia dealership the next day. Their technician found "leaking severe due to oil pressure switch shooting oil through the main wiring harness and to the injector harness". The repair cost was estimated at $6,148.94. I was told that my warranty would not cover this expense even though I have only 70,875 miles. I have not received a notice from Kia indicating a recall or advising that I will receive extended warranty coverage. Research has shown that many Kia vehicles and others have had this same Oil pressure switch problem. This malfunction is extremely dangerous since I drive often on interstate highways and could have been involved in a major breakdown with possible accident. Kia needs to pay for this repair.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving 70-75 MPH for two hours, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was vibrating and then failed to exceed 45 MPH. While starting the vehicle the following day, the check engine warning light was still illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The mechanic informed the contact that vehicle was driving on three spark plugs. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The manufacturer was not contacted or notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 126,000.

Car shuts off while driving on interstate, causing loss of power steering and requiring navigation to shoulder before restarting. Car will restart. This is an intermittent issue. Had car repair work replacing the Crank Shaft Position Sensor at KIA Dealership and after picking up, it happened twice in the same week. Dealership is not able to reproduce the issue and unable to resolve. Car is not safe to drive. This has occurred at least 5 times.
Engine stalling and slowing when going over 35 mph. Noticed recalls for other Kia engines for the same thing why have the Turbo engines not been recalled?? Not safe when you are getting on an interstate and traffic is going 80 mph.
I have the KSDS and the engine light came on right when my engine began shaking and knocking and died in the middle of downtown Chicago traffic while driving. I had it towed to the dealership and they stated that I had no compressions in a cylinder which is part of the engine and I needed a replacement engine. My vehicle had regular maintenance at Kia they change my oil, add coolant and anything that is needed and they never told me that it was burning oil and had any other issues nor did they at any time say the compression was low or going bad. If they didn’t notice how was I to know, it’s not tires where I can go put air in them. The incident was very frightening and sudden and could have cost bodily injury. The settlement states the rod bearing issue, however the compression cylinders are on the short block and I had the KSDS and whether or not it’s the rod bearing Kia needs to own the engine issues period because they know the compression cylinders issues were going to happen. The settlement was not written very exclusive to rod bearing with Kia updated warranty coverage letter dated April 2, 2021. This has and is happening to thousands of Kia owners and we honestly don’t know who to contact because Kia is not helping nor do they care. I promise you if you put out a notice or survey about this issue you will be shocked to learn how many people are actually affected by this issue with no known resources/resolution .
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds, there was a knocking sound coming from the vehicle. I took my car to the Kia dealer because I burn I was smelling burn oil. They told me that it wasn’t burn oil. It was the rubber burning I replace the inner and I’m still smelling the oil burning. I’m putting in oil four times a week, and they still not tell me why I’m putting so much oil then I want to say because I do too much highway mileage that’s why I probably burn it so much oil, but that should be impossible.
My engine failed. I had to continuously fill it up with oil due to it going through oil like crazy. I scheduled a maintenance on it and the day of the appointment, a rod threw in my engine due to oil deprivation. i also had just put a quart of oil in the day BEFORE the engine went out. Kia states the engine recall is only for certain 2017 Kia’s - i say otherwise. there have been more people complain on facebook in a whole group where the same exact thing happened to them. i kept up on my maintenance. i loved my car. now i’m left to figure out 9k to fix the engine! this is not right. i have never been late on my payments, i have only had 1 place to change my oil and that is the dealership i purchased the vehicle from. i have no vehicle! i am a single mother of 2. i can’t have no vehicle. i have seen so many settlements of engine failures and oil deprivation
After an oil change and driving the vehicle 375 miles the oil level is between full and low. This would be an excessive oil consumption issue.
This engine is consuming oil in excess of 1.5 quarts per 1000 miles. This could leave to engine failure, resulting in loss of control and propulsion leading to a possible collision.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The vehicle's engine has failed and the timing is off, causing knocking sounds. The diagnostic results are indicating codes P0014 and P1326. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? There have been reports of the vehicle catching fire so if I continued to drive the vehicle it could result in a major catastrophic event. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, I had the vehicle diagnosed by an independent dealer, and the car is waiting for the next appointment to return to the KIA dealership where the initial purchase was made. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes, the engine light came on in September 2021, two months after I purchased the vehicle. The dealership said that it was nothing, and all the diagnostic codes came back fine at that time.
first owner 2017 Kia Sportage SX (NOTE SX specifically) AWD 2.0L Turbo Gas Direct Injection (4-cyl engine) (no recalls found) - EXCESSIVE Oil Consumption since early/mid 2023 and continues still today, [XXX]. We lose over 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles, did not discover this until an oil change in early 2023 how low our oil was. No leaks then, no leaks now, oil maintenance performed, we have meticulous records and have been to the #1 Cochran Robinson Township Kia dealership where they have perform Kias required Oil Consumption Test that we've paid for. 1st set of test failed each time, dealership performed deep clean, and since there was only 3/4 quart loss, Kia had no further responsibilities. too busy with our small business over the holidays, started Oil Consumption test, again [XXX]. Every single time we hit 1,000 miles (monthly) we are down over 1+ quarts of oil, with no leaks anywhere. Added 40 ounces of oil (I have photos) a few days before we decided to get the Oil Consumption test again. PLS NOTE: There are quite a few MODELS and ENGINES listed in recalls or perhaps lawsuits for excessive oil consumption, our SX model 2.0L Turbo Gas Direct Injection (4 cyl) specifically is not. Over the past 7 months, we have lost over 8 quarts of oil, and have had 2 maintenance oil changes in between, part of normal maintenance. Looking online there are thousands of posts regarding Kia Excessive Oil Consumption, Kia states losing 1 quart every 1,000 miles is acceptable? How can this not cause a hazard to us drivers, engine could blow due to oil going somewhere or into the environment, etc? IF you require all of the service records for the oil changes, etc. I have them all. Thank You Sincerely [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) The contact stated the vehicle is continuing to show Excessive Oil Consumption while required to go through this KIA test again, (first in 2023, now this 2nd set of the same tests). The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact heard an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with failed rod bearings. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact was also informed that the engine was replaced with a used engine. The contact stated that the engine had previously been replaced three times by the dealer within three years. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed with a failed engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced another time. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.

The car is consuming/leaking oil. The leak is from the oil pressure switch and traveling to the main engine harness which may cause a fire or engine to suddenly fail. Check engine light is on and the engine idles high due to Kia diagnosed Cam Phaser issue that had a TSB issued in 2016. This TSB was not completed during the warranty period, and Kia won't remedy this even though I owned the car when it was under warranty.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start on two occasions. The contact stated that on each occasion, the vehicle was towed to a dealer, where it was diagnosed with engine failure, and the engine was replaced twice. The contact stated that while the vehicle was being serviced at an independent mechanic, he was informed that there was an abnormal ticking sound coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced a third time. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.

I have taken my sportage to the service department multiple times due to having to add oil multiple times after an oil change. They told me that the engine needs to be fixed but won't fix it until the car stops working. Now they are telling us that it isn't going to matter because they aren't going to cover the engine.
I took my vehicle in three times for excessive oil consumption. It’s been going through three quarts every thousand miles. The first oil consumption test ran over by 100 miles and the dealer made me do another one. It was determined that 3 1/2 quarts of oil were burned in thousand miles . There was no other diagnostic done. The dealer told me that the warranty does not cover oil consumption when I advise them that oil consumption is a side effect of the real problem which is most likely the rod bearing issue and I did get the update so the engine is supposedly covered lifetime by Kia Dealer and Chia have been going back-and-forth to no resolution and today I was told that it’s a piston failure not rod failure, but neither of those things have been checked out. I was told I would have to pay for an engine breakdown and then Chia America told me to get another opinion from another Kia dealer , in the meantime, my car is burning like crazy. It’s pinging on acceleration, and occasionally when I start it shutters and cuts off.
I was driving home on i-91 S when my car started smoking from under the hood. There were no warning lights and the temperature gauge read normal with the lever at the center. I pulled off at the next Exit and parked in a parking lot. I popped the hood and found that a fire had started around the engine. The fire grew to the point that the whole front half of the car was burned before the fire department was able to put it out. The vehicle was assessed by my insurance, but I think the extent of that was to determine whether it was a total loss (which it obviously was).
Driving as usual and all of a sudden no acceleration. No warning lights at all. Started smoking. Towed to Flynn’s. They said there is a known oil consumption issue and the motor locked up. Communicated with KIA and they say to have it looked at - at a cost. Said it’s not under warranty. But is a likely know issue!
I purchased a used vehicle by way of a loan from "Affinity Plus Credit Union." On 7/27/20 from "Royal Drive Autos" with an extended warranty sold through Affinity Plus Credit Union. The warranty was issued by Route 66 CO. Both parties (Bank & Warranty CO.) granted the loan and warranty understanding there was a “Prior Salvage” title and had been cleared to sell the vehicle. The vehicle has been serviced under recalls by KIA and Route 66 since the purchase of the vehicle. There was a major engine failure believed to be a recall issued by KIA. The vehicle had a “Flashing Engine” light and failed on 9/5/23. I took the vehicle to Luther Bloomington KIA to be serviced on 10/9/23, as this was the earliest appointment available. Once diagnosed the service advisor and the mechanics said that the engine would need to be replaced due to the failure of part. And cannot fix broken part if the engine is not working. KIA denied engine replacement due to "Branded Title." The service adviser then tried to contact Route 66 to see if they would cover the work, they also denied servicing due to having a branded title. Service adviser said to try and get to the bottom of it through route 66. So I called, and they said the bank should've never issued an extended warranty because of the branded title stated on page 2 of the warranty agreement. As it was void/never valid from the start. I talked to Gail Johnson, and she says that it was a mistake to sell the warranty and agreed it should not have been issued. She stated that it was a lack of training of the employee. I stated I would not have taken the loan or the vehicle with a branded title if it wasn't for the extended warranty covering the vehicle. It is now 11/18/23 and the Vehicle is still not fixed and have tried to reach out to Affinity Plus to resolve the issue. And would like KIA to fix the recall that caused the engine failure.
My car keeps burning oil at a rapid rate. I have to replace every 3 weeks.
My car has a circuit problem and that is causing my engine light go off. Kia is not taking any responsibility os this issue
My daughter and I were driving home from my brother's house, when we stopped by McDonald's to grab food, we noticed our car smoking really bad. I had her pull away from the drive-thru and into the empty parking lot. We got out just seconds before the car burst into flames from underneath the hood of the car.
The vehicle went into limp mode while driving on the interstate but the dealership is telling me there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. They are also telling me that there is no powertrain coverage on this vehicle since I am the second owner. With as many problems as Kia has had, I think it should be across the board for coverage on these so no one else suffers irreparable damage. I’ve had the car shut down on me many times but every single time I’ve taken it in for diagnostic testing I’ve been told there is nothing wrong with it. I call BS. If there was nothing wrong with it, it wouldn’t shut down on me while I’m driving it.

End of July, the engine died on the highway when performing an emergency swerve to avoid a collision. This is an issue that is subject to the settlement of one of the several related class action lawsuits against Kia/Hyundai for catastrophic engine failures but not, to my knowledge, one of the specified engine models. There were no warning signs or indicators. No knocking, no noticeable oil consumption, no reported findings of metal filings or shavings in the oil at regular oil changes, no warning lights until it died at 70mph in highway traffic. Kia is replacing the engine with a refurb of the exact same engine model so I expect that it, too, will catastrophically fail at some point. I doubt the engine will be available for inspection by a third party, including the government, as the manufacturer is recycling them into refurbs to other affected vehicles. The local dealer shop inspected it and said it's dead, and covered under the (settlement enforced) extended warranty.
I was driving on the freeway and my car suddenly jolted, smoked started pouring from the hood, and then immediately caught fire once I pulled off the road within minutes. There were no warnings, no engine lights, nothing that pointed to an issue until this happened. I was at risk of getting hit by others in the freeway — I luckily was able to get to the side of the road and immediately called 911. Fire department came within minutes, and dowsed the car, which was fully engulfed in flames.
About two months ago, my car began using excessive amounts of oil. Each time, I replaced the oil, the oil check light would come on after two weeks. I had the gasket replaced in the month of June, 2023. On July 2, 2023, on my way home from work, my vehicle began losing power. When I pulled over and turned the car off, it would not restart. When it did, it did not have power and it began to shake. On July 3, 2023, I took my car to the dealership and was later told by my service advisor that I needed a new engine. I was told that it was the combustion. My vehicle has been at the dealership for a month and 1 week.

On June 19th 2023, the engine to my 2017 Kia Sportage failed with little indication and time to response. Prior to this occurring, my Kia Sportage experienced two instances of limp mode which is an sensor program for the car to diminish efficiency to avoid continued failure. Whist I thought this issue was resolved on May 18 2023, after the first instance of limp mode, I was not fully prepared for the engine to fail so quickly. All three instances (twice limp mode and once engine failure) put my life at risk. The safety of the drivers around me were also endangered due to this taking place. The engine failure has been confirmed with Kia Motors/Greenway Kia West Dealership and both have agreed to replace the engine to my Kia Sportage. I was informed on 6/26 that Kia Motors requested a video of my engine failure. Details on this were not fully shared with me at the time of submitting this report. The engine light warning came on at the times of limp mode only in which my speedometer diminished from 60-80 mph down to 30mph in less than 10 seconds. When the engine failed, as I was braking coming to a stop light, I received no indication until the moment the engine failed while braking. This also put my safety at risk- I was on a busy roadway in the middle of the night and the failure occurring with my car kept my hazard lights from visibility to others on the road.

My car is consuming oil at an alarming rate. This is a daily driver family car that my wife uses to drop and pick my daughter from and to school. I am really concerned the car is going to run of oil and could end up in more serious problem. I have informed the dealer twice and they even determined the car is consuming more than one quart of oil in less that 800 miles. That is way above the acceptable consumption rate of 1 quart per 1000 miles as specified in the national highway traffic safety administration recall I received in the mail. My main concern is the dealer refused to do anything. I have on record from the dealer the oil consumption test they performed but, I was told it was not covered by the recall. I was even informed that I will have to pay more $400 for some kind of engine oil consumption cleaner. I have contacted KIA to give them an opportunity to make this right. But, it has been few weeks and no response.
After engine was replaced the car dash lights still come on and care looses power. I was just told my 2017 engine block is corroded as well as electrical wires and plugs and everything needs to be replaced at a charge of $5,000.
I have taken my 2017 kia sportage in the dealer several times due to loss of power and hesitation when trying to accelerate. They always say they cant find any issue. Also, my Kia is using or losing oil. I get oil changed every 5000 miles and the last two changes I had less then the low mark, barely showing on dip stick. I have had to add quarts of oil after only 2000 miles since oil change. Oil light does not come on, even when showing no oil on dip stick. It is very scary when I go to accelerate and nothing happens when trying to get on on rap for highway.
The engine was misfiring causing issues when trying to reach the posted speed limit. This was/is especially dangerous when having to get on the interstate where vehicles are going up to 80 mph. The engine light did come on. Took the vehicle to a certified KIA dealer where the confirmed the problem and said a new engine was needed. New engine was ordered and replaced (took 4 months to get new engine in) and then a month later the same thing happened again.
I got a 2017 Kia Sportage May 2022 and in September 2022 I started having problems with it I have taken it to the Kia dealership 3-4 times once even by tow. I have been told by the workers at the dealership that the engine needs to be replaced (car has roughly 87,000 miles). I was driving it down the road and it made a noise and lost power I literally had to floor it just to go around 30-40mph. Now it shakes, it's missing, and it has smoke coming from the exhaust on top of the oil consumption problem that I found out about after purchasing ad was told Kia knows about the problem. I haven't had it a year and can't drive it on the highway or nowhere else because of the possible engine fire hazard when I have a toddler in a car seat in the back seat that I may not be able to get out if fire was to happen. This is my only means of transportation nobody wants to take it as a trade-in because of the known problems with kia. And my car insurance has since doubled because of the liability of the vehicle and all the problems and safety concerns and I need answers because I wouldn't recommend any one to purchase a kia.

As I was driving one day my car began to "miss" or jump. The check engine light illuminated and began blinking. I took the truck home and parked it. The next day I cranked the vehicle to see what it would do. Smoke began coming from my exhaust. We turned the car off and I had someone check my oil. It was extremely low. I've had the car looked at by a professional. I was told the turbo is gone. I was quoted $4700 at one place and $7500 at another. This seems to be a similar issue everyone is having. I have a 2017 with 90K miles. I keep the vehicle maintained properly so I have no idea how this happened.

Engine failure at 105,xxx miles. New short block engine at 105,xxx and loss of power at 110,xxx miles. Limp mode was able to reset after turning off the vehicle. It went in to limp mode several times. Dealership denies responsibility. Only goes into Limp mode at higher speeds making it even more dangerous. No check engine light.

My 2017 Kia Sportage has been a problem for several months and I have taken or had it taken (by tow truck) to the dealership several times. Engine not running properly, oil consumption, making strange noises and have been told that there was nothing that they could find or they would say they fixed something minor. The problems just keep compounding. The last incident happened while I was driving on the interstate and the engine started sort of vibrating and the check engine light came on. The car slowed in the middle of rush hour traffic and wouldn't go over 40 or 45 mph. The car had been using an excessive amount of oil prior to this so I always carried extra with me. The oil light never came on no matter how low the oil was. I was finally able to exit the interstate and get to a safe place to stop. I checked the oil and it did not even register on the dipstick. I checked it at least 2 times a week at this point because it was consuming so much oil. I had the car picked up and taken to Carriage Kia by tow truck. The dealership told me that the car needed a new engine because one of the cylinders was damaged and that it wasn't covered by the engine replacement recall, because they didn't have a recall for oil consumption.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the intake manifold runner valve had failed and needed to be replaced. The mechanic related the failure to an unknown recall. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 51,300.

GDI in-line 4 cylinder, engine leaking excessive amounts of oil, throwing P0014 engine codes, vehicle serviced regularly, and code no longer showed up after each service
When I pulled into work and turned off the engine, smoke started to come from under the hood which initially looked like overheating, but no gauges or lights were activated. The smoke started to get heavier, thicker, and darker, and then the hood started flaming and the whole entire car was engulfed in flames within about 5 or 6 minutes. The fire department came around 20 minutes after the 911 calls to extinguish my car.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that the check engine and the low-pressure oil warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the engine to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V907000 (Fuel System, Gasoline, Engine) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 81,174.

- What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The engine produced a check engine light 4 times in 2 months, and now is undrivable. - How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Always misfires in a cylinder. That can quickly become a safety issue when you're driving and it happens. Now there's no coolant in it and oil pressure light is on. - Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. - Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Dealership - Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Check engine light came on mid November first. Summary of it all: - Mid November check engine light came on. Felt rough vibration when idling. Went to dealership, replaced 1 coil and 4 spark plugs and did a carbon cleaning. - 2 weeks later, check engine light back. Vibration when starting the car. Dealership replaced the remaining coils. - 2 weeks later, check engine light back. Vibration when starting the car. Local mechanic replaced a spark plug. - 2 weeks later, check engine light back, no coolant, no oil pressure. Waiting on Kia.
Dead short in a wiring harness to the steering column where it goes up and down and back and forth to the positive wiring harness in there. that Kia dealer cannot figure out. Add another mechanic figure it out. Got pictures also a bad oil pressure switch that shot oil all over the motor
Engine has failed due to oil absorption.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V137000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact stated while driving 72 MPH across three lanes of traffic, the vehicle lost motive power with the check engine and oil warning lights illuminated. The contact pulled over and turned off the vehicle; however, the vehicle was unable to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine had seized and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance due to the vehicle not having the Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) Product Improvement Campaign software update. The contact had not yet received notification of the KSDS Product Improvement Campaign software update. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

I purchased a pre-owned 2017 Kia Sportage (~34,000 miles) from a Kia dealership in January 2020. I had my oil changed in late June 2022 at approximately 64,500 miles. In early October 2022 at approximately 67,800 miles (+3300) I noticed my oil light flickering when I would break form a high rate of speed. I brought it in to be looked at and my engine had less than one quart of oil remaining. Not only did the engine consume ~5 quarts of oil in 3.5 months, 3300 miles, but almost more importantly oil light had barely begun to flicker to the deficit in oil. The kia oil consumption issues are well known at this point. However I was unaware of the oil pressure sensor being set to only register once the vehicle was down 4-5 quarts of oil from the fill level. I was told by the Kia service manager that my "excellent" warranty will in fact cover a new engine, but I will have to drive the car until the engine seizes or sustains serious damage. When I first noticed the issue I called Kia to make an appointment to be seen and they were unable to fit me in for 2 weeks. Out of concern for my safety I brought my vehicle to an independent repair center who then confirmed that there was less than one quart of oil in then engine when it was drained (attached service record). My car is currently at the Kia service center.
I was driving up to Vermont for an event. I stopped at a Dunkin Donuts drive through and noticed smoke coming from the hood of my car. I quickly pulled forward into the nearest parking spot and the car started smoking in and burst into flames. I had 20-30 seconds to get out of the car. I could have been killed.
When we are driving the car accelerate on its own. I have taken to Kia multiple times and they see a problem. That’s a safety concern
I purchased my Kia Sportage used in March of 2021. -By July, 2022 I noticed it was staring to burn a lot of oil. I had it at the shop and there were no leaks, --By September 1, 2022 I was driving up the interstate; the car lost power, check engine light was on and the car started shaking. -I checked the oil and it was good. We also checked all codes that were showing and replaced the spark plugs, coil pack, and VVT Solenoid. The car still was not running right. --September 15 I decided to take it to Timbrook Kia to see if I could trade it in or have it repaired. They would offer me $5000 due to engine issue. I was then told there was a recall on the CVVT Cover (later found out it was actually a service action #SA305). They said the CVVT Gear under the Cover was damaged which works the VVT Solenoid which controls the valves in the engine and they thought one of the valves was bent. They put in a request to have the repairs to be covered by Kia, but they denied it twice and claim that the gear was not responsible for the motor issue. -I contacted Kia Consumer Care, which is almost impossible, to be told that my motor was on a Class Action Settlement list and I should go online and fill out the claim form. I tried to fill out the form and found it was for reimbursement, so I called the number on the settlement site. I was then informed that I could not file for the settlement because my engine had not completely blown up or caught on fire and I was misinformed previously. -Over the past week, I have gotten nothing but the run around between Kia themselves and Timbrook Kia.
My car has been having an extreme oil consumption issue. I've been trying to get the issue fix with Kia for over six months. However, it is getting to the point were the engine runs out of oil and coolant in less than 500 miles. They told me the engine is damaged and it could fail and that the issue was caused by the excessive oil consumption. However, they will not cover it because damages by oil consumption are not covered by the manufacturer.
My 2017 KIA SPORTAGE has 74,695 miles. I am the 2ND owner. The engine failed at highway speed, due to so called knock sensor. This the first safety issue, no assisted steering or brakes. I paid to have towed. The Kia dealer had no loaner cars. And was told it would take up to ten weeks to get an engine. After the KIA dealer replaced the engine. The power steering, alternator, and water pump belt came off. This caused the second safety issue, as there is no powersteering making it very difficult to control as well as third safety issue the computer to stopped the engine. Again I paid to have it towed. The Kia dealer found a broken motor mount. Which they did repair and cover. Now the first week out of the KIA dealer service department there is a high pitched squeal. The KIA dealer just wrote me a quote for $800 plus dollars, stating this vital moving part is not covered.

My engine locked up 8/29/22 , my mechanic informed me there was a recall associated with the engine .We had the car transferred to the local dealership . I was denied due to the dealer, Bill Byrd kia stating that the manufacturer , Kia , wouldn’t cover it due to not receiving the previous safety recall . Regardless of the type of recall all recalls that within the statute of limitation of eight years ago must be completed . Nevertheless the reason I didn't get notice of the recall , they said it was sent june 2019 . The reason why I didn't get the recall/product improvement notice was due to my house being damaged due to Hurricane Michael ,a category 5 hurricane that destroyed and made my house unlivable . How exactly I was supposed to get this notice being unhoused from a category 5 hurricane. Please contact bill byrd kia in Panama CIty , fl and approve and fix the repair ,which companies are required to under federal law , specifically the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act . I have taken the liberty to include photos of my house that are time stamped from the month June 2019 , the time frame Kia representatives state I should have received the notice
While driving 70 mph on the highway, the car suddenly lost speed, and I was not able to accelerate, and the engine light came on. Fortunately, I was near an exit, and at the reduced speed I was able to get to a parking lot. After contacting the dealership where I purchased the Kia, they suggested I have it towed to their service department. The initial diagnosis code indicated #1326 - which is excessive rod bearing wear.

Vehicle is using on the average 2-3qts of oil within 1000 miles was told this could cause a fire. My vehicle had been checked twice was told I may need a new engine. Is this a common problem?
Car shakes and putters when started as if the engine is shot, which at this point probably is. I have been adding oil every couple of weeks for over 6 months now with no oil leak detected. I went to the dealer in January to ask about white smoke coming from the tailpipe and Dealership tells me I need to blow the engine up before KIA will do anything about it. It's now close to blown up with check engine light on having it towed to dealership this week.
Engine seized twice randomly while driving. Turned car off and back on and it ran without issue. (May 21 2022 and June 30 2022). Had the recall addressed on july 9 and July 12 my check engine light came on. It was towed to Kia and they called the following day saying they’re replacing the engine under the extended warranty.
Car shakes and putters when started as if the engine is shot, which at this point probably is. We have been adding oil every two or three for over a year now with no oil leak detected. Dealership tells us we need to blow the engine up before KIA will do anything about it. It's not blown up but it is not driveable. Had it towed to the local dealership which diagnosed the problem as being " low compression on cylinder 2 resulting in engine failure. Do not know the exact cause of failure due to no tear down", which cost us $144.04 on a vehicle that has a lifetime extended warranty on the powertrain. Mind you, they already changed out the transmission June of 2020 and just after that the engine problems started. We paid $502.85 as our part of the bill. The estimated cost of this engine repair is $3160 dollars plus taxes which still might not fix the problem, and the cost of a new engine is 4 to 5 thousand dollars. My understanding is that we are not the only people having these problems and this is their best response. With all the new vehicles they continue to sell and produce with their good name intact, they should have to recall or replace these vehicles because they were lemons from the start and they suffer no ill affects for it. A list of all the stuff needed to "fix" this problem are as follows: head gasket, head bolt set, intake gasket, t-stat & gasket, water outlet gasket, 4 spark plugs, 6 valve stem seals, lof, 2 gallons of antifreeze 14 assorted head bolts, 4 bushings for bolts, misc and labor. Total for that is $3160 plus tax. *Might need head-has no compression-valve burnt/stuck, or seat damage. No cost mentioned for that. Remind you, the engine hasn't been torn down yet. And yes, there is a lifetime powertrain warranty on the vehicle, which isn't worth the paper it is written on.
I was passing a car doing below 50 in a 55. As I sped to pass him the engine seemed to misfire, the car began to jerk and I suddenly lost power to the engine. I tried pressing on the gas pedal but engine was idle. I pulled to the side shut the engine off, waited a few minutes and tried to start the engine again. It did not want to turn over, sounded like a piston had blown. I had it towed to the family mechanic whom I take all my vehicles to. He ran a diagnostics and said piston #3 was getting no compression and I would need a new engine. I bought the vehicle brand new with 0 miles, the car now has 103,000 miles, just 3000 miles over warranty, which is why I took it to my mechanic and not the dealership. I bought the service contract from the dealership so it has been completely maintained as per contract at Future Kia in Clovis. My mechanic advised me to take it back to the dealer. I had it towed there and awaiting their diagnostics report.
While driving, the engine suddenly lost power and stalled. All of the warning lights on the dash illuminated. After coasting to the side of the road I pressed the start button and the engine started back up. Later that week the low oil light illuminated. After stopping the car I pulled the dipstick and it was not registering any oil. The car is at JT Kia in Columbia, SC to be diagnosed and we will be doing an engine oil consumption test.
Over the last year the car has been having the engine light come on. The car idols ruff, loses power and has left me stranded on the side road. I lost power in the fast lane on the freeway and had to maneuver out of the fast lane to side of freeway. Each time it has been taken to shop it has been a mis-fire in the #3 cylinder and the spark plug had to be replaced. Several calls not returned by Roseville Kia asking for information regarding this problem as well as trying to set up appointment for current recall over the last year. Once again car left me on side of road and was told by mechanic that it needs new engine. Told by Folsom Kia to have it towed to them since Roseville Kia would not return calls and that the issue with the engine would be covered by warranty being extended due to past recall. After 4 days at Folsom Kia I was told that I would need a new engine and starting price to tear it down is $5000, and it would most likely be more, approx$8000. Also told that the warranty does not apply now.

While driving this car on the highway, the car shut down leading to severely decreased speed placing my life in danger. The engine was repaired in 2019. Again, on Monday 3/21/2022, while driving on the highway, this car decreased speed and put my life in danger again. This time KIA will not rectify the situation and denies any responsibility for the second engine issue. This vehicle now requires a total engine replacement at the cost of myself. No explanation of what led to the cause of this engine failure was provided. Multiple attempts requesting written explanation of diagnostic findings have not been met. No invoice has been provided at the time of this claim.
Unknow I took my kia 2/10/2022 in because the control knob was not working they did not have the part On 2/11/2022 I picked it up. On 2/17/2022 I dropped off my Kia so that the replacement part could be installed. On 2/18/2022 I picked up my vehicle and seen that my knob was fixed be discovered another problem had occurred that was no there before. My check engine light was on. I never left the service area. I informed [XXX] the he contacted (by radio) the mechanic that worked on my Kia. The took the vehicle back to the mechanic and when I got my vehicle back the check engine light was off and if the check engine light came back on to let him know. On Feb 19 the check engine light was back on so I called and left a message for [XXX] to call me back but he never did. Feb 21 I called [XXX] again and left a message for him to call me back. I spoke with [XXX] yet again no one there was willing to help me. I left a message With General Manager [XXX] he did not return my call, I spoke with the corporate office still no one has called me INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
My Sportage SX started to slow in an off-ramp & then died completely stranding me in traffic. 2/13/22 is when this happened. Dealer is saying that engine pressure caused a spark plug to break & batter the cylinder. Resolve is a factory warranty engine block. Still waiting on the engine part, a month later.
I started to hear a rattle sounds or ticking while driving. I let the car test over the weekend and then come Monday was going to drive it to my mechanic. I was left stranded and had to get the car towed to the mechanic. I'm being told the entire engine is bad and needs to be replaced. This makes no sense as I've kept up regular maintenance on the vehicle and am still paying on it.

Unreasonable amount of engine oil decreasing. When I drained engine oil after 5000 miles of driving, less than 1/2 of 5qt jug was filled. It could eventually result engine fire due to loss of lubrication on engine.

I filed a claim 14001328 for excessive oil consumption. I am told that one quart of oil per 1000 miles is normal consumption. The car holds 4.5 quarts of oil. This means that for a 7500 mile oil change interval the entire volume is replace almost twice. I do not accept this as normal. I purchased a 2017 Kia Sportage in August of 2016. I believe that Kia is running out the warranty. I have driven 158,000 miles in a VW Rabbit - no oil issues. 238,000 miles in a VW Jetta 195,000 miles in a VW Jetta TDI, 175,000 miles in a Chrysler Town and Country. Average oil consumption between changes was .25 quarts. You are now telling me this Kia Sportage has a normal oil consumption of one quart per 1000 miles. I find this then to be an inferior design. I should be entitled to a repair. I have oil coming out of my exhaust tailpipe. I am copying this to the NHTSA. All of the time I have my Sportage I have maintained proper oil change intervals and I have service records.
I have performed the required oil changes since the car was purchased with the KIA dealer network. At 50,000 miles my oil light came on while making a turn and I brought it to the nearest dealer. They changed the oil and started an oil comsumption test. Since then, we have done 3 oil comsumption tested which "just passed" the criteria. I burn enough oil that I have a soot deposit in my exhaust pipe. My car is at 81,000 miles and has lost enough oil from the last oil change (4,000 miles ago - scheduled oil change for December 15) that there is no oil indication on the dipstick. The dealer has asked me to not add oil because it is 2 quarts low and ok to drive. They have said the warranty only covers if the consumption is greater than 1 quart per 1000 miles and this much oil loss is normal. THIS IS NOT NORMAL and indicates a defect in the piston rings, which would be a warranty repair that is being denied.
The contact's daughter owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at 5-10 MPH, she heard an abnormal popping sound and she saw black and white smoke coming from underneath the hood of the vehicle. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact's daughter exited the vehicle immediately and called the fire department. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire. The contact's daughter did not sustain physical injuries however, she was mentally traumatized and had been seeking therapy. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot, where the vehicle was deemed totaled. The contact stated that the vehicle had been serviced two months prior to catching on fire and several recall repairs were performed. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Mileage at 94,000 miles, less than 100,000 warrantied for, and this car is using oil until its dry less than every 1000 miles. I can't go anywhere without carrying oil in the car. Took it to the dealer and was told Kia would not approve engine work. Reported to them also that the oil light does NOT come on, it only blinked once causing concern for me because the engine was kind of dragging. The dipstick was dry. Has happened three times since then.

WHILE DRIVING AT A STEADY SPEED, CAR WILL SUDDENLY DISENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION, THE RPMS WILL REV HIGH AND THEN TRANSMISSION WILL RE-ENGAGE. THIS USUALLY LASTS 20-30 SECONDS, IT IS VERY RANDOM. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN AND BECAUSE NO CODES ARE SHOWING AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO RECREATE THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. IT IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE AS IF I'M DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND THIS OCCURS IT COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. IT HAPPENS SPORADICALLY AND CANNOT DOCUMENT ANYTHING AS IT IS OVER BEFORE I CAN AS I AM DRIVING WHEN IT HAPPENS

THE ENGINE HAS BEEN BURNING OIL SINCE 2019. I TOLD THE SERVICE DESK AND THEY SAID A QT EVERY 1000 MILES IS NORMAL. IT STARTED TO WORSEN. IN JANUARY 2021 THE DID AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. I DRIVE TO CAR FOR 957 MILES AND THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THE CAR WAS DOWN 2 QTS OF OIL. THEY SAID THEY RUN THE TEST AGAIN. THEY FILLED THE CAR WITH WHAT THEY SAID WAS THE RIGHT AMOUNT.THE NEXT MORNING AFTER GETTING MY CAR BACK I CHECKED THE DIPSTICK THREE TIMES. THE OIL WAS A 1/2 INCH OVER THE FILL MARK I RETURN THE CAR WITH LESS THE 1000 MILES AND THIS TIME THEY SAID IT WAS ONLY DOWN A QT. AND IT WAS IN MANUFACTURERS SPEC FOR CONSUMPTION . I TOLD THEM IT WAS OVER FILLED SO THEY SAID WE WILL TEST IT AGAIN. THIS TIME THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT BACK AT 1500 MILES. I HAVE NOT REACHED THAT AMOUNT OF MILES YET . I WORRIED ABOUT HAVING CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE WHILE I'M DRIVING . THEY HAVE ALREADY INSTALLED TWO TRANSMISSION THAT WERE DEFECTIVE.I WILL SUPPLY ANY OTHER DOCUMENTS YOU NEED .

CAR IS RAPIDLY BURNING OIL AND NOT DRIPPING ON GROUND. RECENT ACTIVITY: OIL DIPSTICK SHOWED NO OIL ON 01/18/2021 AND TOOK 3 QUARTS. IT READ FULL! ON 01/25/2021. SERVICE STATION REPORTED OUT OF OIL AGAIN! OIL LIGHT ON DASHBOARD DID NOT LIGHT.KIA DEALERSHIP ADVISED AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST THAT WILL BE REPORTED TO YOU. I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT FOR YOU NOTE THAT THIS OCCURRED 1000 MILES INTO MY REGULARLY SCHEDULED 3000 MILE OIL CHANGE. OUR LOCAL SERVICE STATION INDICATED THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM FOR THIS CAR AND LITIGATION IS BEING CONSIDERED.

ON OCTOBER 6,2020 MY 2017 KIA SPORTAGE SEEMED TO HAVE EXCELLERATION ISSUES; THE CAR WOULD HESITATE WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THEN ABOUT A WEEK LATER 10/9/20 MY ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. I USED FIXD APP TO ASSIST DIAGNOSIS. 420 CODE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. TOOK IT TO REPUTABLE SHOP WHERE THEY CONFIRMED AND SUGGESTED I TAKE TO KIA DEALER DUE TO 80,000 MILE CATALYTIC WARRANTY. I DID THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY. KIA STATED THAT THEY HAD TO RUN THEIR OWN DIAGNOSIS AND WOULD CALL ME. THEY CONFIRMED THE 420 CODE BUT STATED THEY SIMPLY 'RESET' THE COMPUTER STATING THIS IS KIA DIRECTIVE PRIOR TO REPLACING THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER; AND SAID TO BRING IT IN IF THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AGAIN. IT DID A WEEK LATER; THEY REPLACED THE VCM MOTOR 10/19/20. NOW 11/7/20 ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND FIXD CODE 420 CATALYTIC CONVERTER AGAIN. THEY DID NOT WANT TO HONOR THE 80,000 MILE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WARRANTY. I AM JUST UNDER 80,000 MILES NOW AND WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN WAS AT 78,000 MILES.

ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS I HAD TO HIT THE BRAKE PEDDLE TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE AND ONCE PULLED INTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AS A PRECAUTION. WE FIRST NOTICED THIS PROBLEM ABOUT A COUPLE OF MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. I PREVIOUSLY REPORTED THIS TO KIA DEALERSHIP, HOWEVER HE INDICATED THAT IT WOULD BE THE ALTERNATOR OR SOMETHING THAT IS CAUSING THE ENGINE TO NOT KNOW WHAT GEAR IT'S ACTUALLY ON. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY AND AT ANY SPEED. THE SEAT BELT LIGHT FLASHES OCCASIONALLY ALTHOUGH NO ONE ELSE IS SITTING IN THE VEHICLE AND MY SEAT BELT IS ATTACHED.

MID-DECEMBER I NOTICED MY CAR WAS SKIPPING AS I ACCELERATED. I CHECKED THE OIL AND THERE WAS NONE. I HAD JUST GOTTEN AN OIL CHANGE 10/26/19. I TAKE THE CAR IN 12/23/19. THEY DO ANOTHER OIL CHANGE AND TELL ME AS IT GETS LOW ON OIL TO BRING IT IN AND THEY WILL TRACK IT. WE DO THIS A FEW TIMES AND COVID HAPPENS. SO, I'M ADDING MY OWN OIL AND RESTART THE PROCESS 6/23/20. MY BF BRINGS THE CAR IN 7/31/20 AND THE MECHANIC STATES KIA WILL NO LONGER BE DOING OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS AND WOULD ONLY SEE THE CAR IF SOMETHING CATASTROPHIC OCCURS. THEN PLAINLY SAYS DO NOT ADD OIL AND LET IT BLOW IT UP. I RETURN 8/3/20 TO SPEAK TO THE MANAGER IN CHARGE AND HE CONFIRMS THAT IT IS KIA'S POLICY THAT THEY WILL NOT ADD OIL ANYMORE. SAYS HE CANNOT GIVE ME THE POLICY IN WRITING. I SAID I HAD AN OIL CHANGE WITH YOU ON 6/23/20 AND TODAY 8/3/20 MY CAR DOESN'T HAVE ANY OIL IN IT AND YOU WON'T LOOK AT IT? HE CONFIRMED HE WOULD NOT LOOK AT IT.

MY PARKING BRAKE NO LONGER SETS, IT JUST PUMPS AND NEVER LOCKS. SO I HOPE I DON'T HAVE TO PARK ON ANY HILLS FOR A WHILE. ALSO, MY HEATING AND AIR GOES WONKY SOMETIMES AND WON'T SHOW ME THE ACTUAL TEMP OR GIVE ME THE OPTION TO INCREASE OR DECREASE IN TEMP OR MODE UNLESS I PARK AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF, START IT AGAIN, THEN TURN OFF THE WHOLE COOLING OR HEATING SYSTEM AND THEN MESS WITH IT MORE. MY CAR IS ALSO OFTEN TIMES IN DRIVE, AND IT'LL REV UP FOR NO REASON TO THE RED LINE, THEN STALL AND COAST TO A STOP. I'VE BEEN LUCKY MY KIDS HAVE YET TO BE WITH ME WITH THIS HAPPENING AND IT'S BEEN ON BACK ROADS WITH LITTLE TRAFFIC. ALL THESE THINGS WHILE CAR IS IN DRIVE/MOTION, EXCEPT PARKING BRAKE, THAT IS OBVIOUSLY WHILE IN PARK THAT I'VE NOTICED.

KIA SPORTAGE 2017 BEGAN SHOWING EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. IT WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL KIA SERVICE STATION. THE DEALER PERFORMED AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST THAT SHOWED, TWICE, THAT THE VEHICLE CONSUMED ONE AND A HALF QUARTS OF OIL PER 1,000 MILES OF USE. IT WAS TAKEN FOR FURTHER ANALYSIS AFTER CONFIRMATION OF ADEQUATE OIL CHANGE SCHEDULE AND AT 39914 MILES. MOTOR WAS DISASSEMBLED AND AFTER MORE THAN 3 WEEKS, DIAGNOSIS IS UNCERTAIN. THIS PROBLEM MAY CAUSE MALFUNCTION OF INTERNAL PARTS AND THERE MAY BE A HIGH PROBABILITY OF SAFETY COMPROMISE ON PUBLIC HIGHWAYS.

UPDATE WAS TO BE DONE FREE OF CHARGE AND WOULD ONLY INVOLVE THE ADDITION OF NEWLY DEVELOPED COMPUTER SOFTWARE FOR THE ECU. ON JANUARY 3RD 2019 I HAD THE UPDATE COMPLETED AT THE KIA DEALERSHIP FROM WHERE THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN LEASED. APPROXIMATELY 15 MILES AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP THE VEHICLE WENT INTO "LIMP MODE", RESTRICTING THE ENGINES RPM'S AND ACCELERATION. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OFF THE ROADWAY AND CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS INFORMED TO RETURN WITH THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. ONCE AT THE DEALERSHIP I WAS INFORMED THAT AN ADDITIONAL WIRE HARNESS WOULD NEED INSTALLED AND REPAIRS WOULD BE COMPLETED WITHIN ONE DAY. JUST PRIOR TO LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP I WAS INFORMED THAT KIA WAS INSTRUCTING THE DEALERSHIP IT WOULD BE NECESSARY FOR THE ENTIRE ENGINE BE REPLACED. AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT THE VEHICLE ON HAD 5800 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. I HAVE BEEN WAITING IN EXCESS OF TWO MONTHS FOR THE VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP CAN GET NO FURTHER INFORMATION FROM KIA AS TO WHEN THE ENGINE WILL BE DELIVERED. I HAVE CONTACTED KIA 3 TIMES AND SPOKE WITH REPRESENTATIVES THAT ARE UNABLE TO PROVIDE INFORMATION ON ENGINE DELIVERY. I WAS TOLD ON LAST CALL THAT A ELEVATED CASE MANAGER WAS ASSIGNED AND WAS GIVEN HIS DIRECT LINE. ON 3/5/2018 I ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT THE CASE MANAGER AND LEFT I MESSAGE ON VOICEMAIL. I HAVE NOT BEEN RE-CONTACTED AS OF THIS WRITING. I AM ALSO STILL MAKING THE LEASE PAYMENT ON THE VEHICLE AND OBVIOUSLY INSURING THE VEHICLE.

YESTERDAY 2/13/19. I WAS SITTING IN A PARKING LOT, THE CAR WAS IN PARK AND RUNNING, WHEN I TURNED THE HEAT ON, THE CAR ROUGH IDLED AND CUT OFF. I TOOK MY CAR IN (BECAUSE I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FOR THIS VERY ISSUE) AND THE KIA SERVICE DEPARTMENT ESSENTIALLY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO, AND WHEN THEY TOOK MY CAR OUT TO RE-CREATE THE ISSUE, NOTHING HAPPENED. DEALING WITH OIL LOSS SINCE LAST YEAR, SINGLE OWNER NEW VEHICLE. FIRST TIME NO OIL TOWED TO FAYETTEVILLE NC KIA WHERE THEY SAID NOTHING WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE I HAD THE OIL CHANGED SOMEWHERE ELSE. THEY SHOULD HAVE KNOWN ABOUT A PART RECALL ON THE OIL PAN PER THE KIA FEMALE REPAIR REP AT PINEHURST KIA IN SOUTHERN PINES NC WHERE I HAD IT TOWED TO WHEN BATTERY DIED A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER. AGAIN THEY FOUND NO OIL BUT OIL SPLATTERED UNDERNEATH IN ENGINE AND SPOKE WITH KIA NATIONAL CONSUMER IN CA AT THAT TIME. THEY CONFIRMED THE ISSUE, AND CHANGED OIL AND CALLED FOR PART. RETURNED 2 WEEKS LATER JUST TO HAVE OIL CHECKED AND AGAIN NO OIL. XALLED KIA NATIONAL AGAIN. I HAVE A 2017 KIA SPORTAGE SX TURBO MY CAR HAS NOT RUN RIGHT EVER SINCE I LEASED IT. THERE WERE TIMES WHERE IT SEEMED LIKE THE CAR WASN'T GOING TO START, CRANKING, BUT NOT TURNING OVER. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN I HEAR A LOUD CLICKING NOISE WHEN I ACCELERATE, WHICH SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING UNDER THE HOOD OF MY CAR IS ABOUT TO BREAK. AND THEN I STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH MY SPARK PLUGS. THE SPARK PLUG ON CYLINDER 3 HAS BURNT OUT AND CAUSED MISFIRES IN MY ENGINE 3 TIMES NOW, STARTING AS SOON AS 9,000 MILES. BEFORE, THE DEALERSHIP I WENT TO BLAMED IT ON POOR GASOLINE OR TOO MUCH OIL IN MY VEHICLE AND NEVER FIXED THE ISSUE AFTER BEING AT THE DEALERSHIP 3 DIFFERENT TIMES BECAUSE OF THE MISFIRING I WAS EXPERIENCING. THE FIRST TIME I WENT TO SUMMIT PLACE KIA, THEY PUT ME BACK INTO A FAULTY VEHICLE WITHOUT FIXING ANYTHING. MY CAR THEN FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, MISFIRING AND NOT PROPERLY ACCELERATING. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY SAFELY AND TOWED TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP THAT REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS. MY CAR STARTED MISFIRING AGAIN, AND SUMMIT PLACE KIA REPLACED THE CYLINDER 3 SPARK PLUG AND BLAMED THE ISSUE ON "TOO MUCH OIL." NOW MY CAR IS AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE FOURTH TIME AFTER FAILING AGAIN WHILE DRIVING, SEVERELY MISFIRING, CAUSING THE CAR NOT TO ACCELERATE PROPERLY OR DRIVE WELL AT ALL WHILE DRIVING IT. KIA MOTORS, INC. AND FELDMAN KIA IN NOVI HAVE DECIDED TO REPLACE THE SHORT BLOCK OF MY ENGINE, STILL NOT KNOWING EXACTLY WHAT IS GOING ON OR CAUSING THE 3RD CYLINDER SPARK PLUG TO BURN OUT. I AM NOT CONFIDENT THAT SIMPLY REPLACING THE SHORT BLOCK WILL FIX THIS, UNLESS THEY KNOW SOMETHING THAT IS NOT BEING DISCLOSED TO ME. I FEEL THAT THERE IS SOMETHING INHERENTLY WRONG WITH THE DESIGN OF THE ENGINE OF THIS CAR, AND THIS PROBLEM WILL AFFECT THOUSANDS OF OTHERS WHO HAVE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE.

AFTER THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED (SHORT BLOCK WE WERE TOLD), THE BRAKE ASSIST SYSTEM (BAS) & THE FORWARD & REAR COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM ARE INTERMITTENT IN THEIR OPERATION. RANDOMLY WHEN SITTING STILL THE SENSORS WILL ALERT OR WHEN CROSS TRAFFIC (FRONT OR REAR) THE SENSORS FAIL TO DETECT. THIS WAS A DEFINITE CHANGE OF BEHAVIOR SINCE THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED. THE LOCAL DEALER SAID THEY CHECKED IT AND AFTER A FEW MILES OF DRIVING DECLARED IT TO BE WORKING PROPERLY. THIS RANDOM BEHAVIOR OCCURS SEVERAL TIMES A DAY.. (5) APPROACHING THE SHOULDER, I NOTICED THAT THE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES WERE ALSO INACTIVE. AFTER PUTTING IN PARK, IT MIRACULOUSLY STARTED RIGHT BACK UP AND GOT ME HOME. BUT THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, AND A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, BECAUSE THE NEXT TIME IT HAPPENS, IT'LL BE DURING RUSH HOUR AND THEN I'LL GET REAR-ENDED BY THE UBIQUITOUS TAILGATER, GOING 70 MPH. EVEN IF THE BRAKE LIGHTS WORK WHEN I GET A CHANCE TO APPLY THEM, THERE WOULD STILL BE A DELAY OF A SECOND OR TWO DURING WHICH THE VEHICLE WOULD BE RAPIDLY DECELERATING ON ITS OWN, WITHOUT BRAKE LIGHTS. NOT TO MENTION THE UNDOUBTEDLY ACCELERATED WEAR AND TEAR ON INTERNAL PARTS.

I HAVE HAD 4 INSTANCES OF WHAT FEELS LIKE THE CAR SLIPPING OUT OF "DRIVE". WHILE IN DRIVE, WHEN I PRESS ON ACCELERATOR BUT WHILE THE RPM'S GO UP, THE CAR DOESN'T MOVE.. ONCE I REMOVE MY FOOT AND THEN PRESS AGAIN ON THE ACCELERATOR, IT PROCEEDS NORMALLY. KIA CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH VEHICLE BUT LAST INSTANCE WAS LESS THAN 30 DAYS AGO. THIS IS AFTER KIA HAD TO REPLACE THE BLOCK THE FIRST MONTH OF OWNERSHIP OF THIS BRAND NEW VEHICLE.

WHEN PUSHING ON THE GAS THE RPM GO UP BUT THE CAR DOESN'T KICK IN RIGHT AWAY. THE TRANSMISSION? IT LIKE YOU HAVE A MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND YOU HAVEN'T LET OUT ON THE GAS. DOESN'T DO IT ALL THE TIME, BUT IS DOING IT ABOUT ONCE EVERY TIME I DRIVE. IT IS GETTING MORE FREQUENT, WONDERING IF ITS DUE TO COLD WEATHER.
