TAKATA RECALL. MY CAR HAD THE AIRBAG RECALL BUT IT SEEMS LIKE DURING THE RECALL THEY DIDN'T REPLACE THE AIRBAG WIRING HARNESS, CAUSING THE AIRBAG DASH LIGHT.
AS INSPECTED BY LEXUS DEALERSHIP IN WOODLAND HILLS CA, MY CAR HAS AIRBAG LIGHT ON/OFF INTERMITTENTLY. ERROR CODE B1861 WAS FOUND THAT IS TIED TO KNEE AIRBAG ON THE DRIVER SIDE. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE SQUIB CIRCUIT IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER I BELIEVE. CAR HAS AROUND 99K MILES BUT THIS SAFETY CONCERN IS SERIOUS. THIS AIRBAG IS SOMETHING THAT NEVER GETS USED UNLESS YOU'RE IN AN ACCIDENT. I'VE NEVER BEEN IN ONE. IT IS JUST BAD WORKMANSHIP ON LEXUS TO INSTALL SUCH A WIRING HARNESS AND SQUIB CIRCUIT THAT'LL GO BAD BEFORE 100,000 MILES. AS A CUSTOMER THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT IS VISIBLE TO ME NOR SOMETHING I WOULD ATTEMPT TO TOUCH. IT IS HIDDEN BEHIND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND DASHBOARD. DEALERSHIP QUOTED $3000+ TO FIX SOMETHING THAT WASN'T CAUSED DUE TO CUSTOMER NEGLIGENCE. IT IS JUST BAD WORKMANSHIP FROM LEXUS. THERE IS A GREAT RISK INVOLVED WITH DRIVING LEXUS IS250'S CONSIDERING THIS LIGHT COULD TURN ON ANYTIME AND IF ONE GETS INTO AN ACCIDENT, THEN AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY RESULTING IN A POSSIBLE CASUALTY OR SERIOUS INJURIES. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ON ALL LEXUS AFFECTED BY THIS. CUSTOMER SHOULDN'T BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE WORKMANSHIP PROBLEMS.

DASH AIRBAG LIGHT RANDOMLY TURNED ON. CAR WAS PARKED. AS SOON AS CAR WAS TURNED ON THE LIGHT LIT UP. LIGHT WAS NOT ON DAY BEFORE. TOOK TO LOCAL LEXUS DEALERSHIP AND HAD CODE SCANNED. DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT MY CAR NEEDS A NEW DASH HARNESS AND REPAIR WOULD COST +$3,000 PLUS TAX FOR PART AND LABOR WHICH IS HALF OF WHAT THE CAR COSTS. ALSO TOLD ME THAT WHEN THE LIGHT IS ON NONE OF MY AIRBAGS WILL DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION WHICH MAKES ME WORRIED TO DRIVE THE CAR, ESPECIALLY THIS TIME OF YEAR. LOOKED UP THE ISSUE ONLINE AND SAW IT IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THESE CARS, BUT THERE IS NO TYPE OF RECALL FOR THE ISSUE WHICH IS UNUSUAL FOR SOMETHING THAT IS COMMON AND PUTS LIVES AT RISK.

TAKATA AIRBAG. PASSENGER AIRBAG TROUBLE LIGHT COMES ON DASH INTERMITTENTLY WHEN STATIONARY AND WHILE IN MOTION ON STREET/HIGHWAY. WHEN I RECENTLY HAD THE TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL DONE, THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED ME $2,100 TO REPLACE THE WIRING HARNESS. I RESEARCHED ON-LINE AND FOUND THIS TO BE UNIVERSALLY OCCURRING PROBLEM WITH LEXUS IS250 MODELS AND OTHERS 2006 AND LATER. THE DEFECTIVE PART IS THE CONNECTOR FROM THE WIRING HARNESS COMING LOOSE AT THE PLUG INTO THE AIRBAG. SINCE THIS A UNIVERSAL SAFETY ISSUE AND RELATED TO A DEFECTIVE PART (RATHER THAN A MECHANICAL PART SUBJECT TO WEAR/TEAR) SHOULDN'T THIS BE A RECALL? WIRING HARNESS THAT IS TOO SHORT.
AFTER HAVING THE CAR I STARTED GETTING THE FEEL AS IF THE CAR WANTED TO CUT OFF EACH TIME I CAME TO A STOP. THERE WAS VIBRATION WITH IN THE MOTOR AS IT SEEMED. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ADVISE THERE WAS A ISSUE WITH MY MODEL WITH THE MOTOR SYSTEM WITH THE VIBRATION. THEY FIXED THE ISSUE SO I THOUGHT BUT AS OF TODAY THERE IS STILL VIBRATIONS AT TIME WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. LATER ON I RECEIVED A RECALL ON THE DASHBOARD AND DOOR PANELS. I LATER RECEIVED ANOTHER RECALL FOR MY AIRBAGS, NOW MY AIRBAG LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND I'M HAVING TO TAKE THE CAR BACK AND FORTH TO THE DEALERSHIP. THESE ITEMS HAS HAPPEN ON NUMBER OF OCCASIONS

I PURCHASED MY LEXUS IN NOV. 2012 FOR APPROX. $18000 CASH FROM A PRIVATE PERSON. BY EARLY 2013, THE SRS AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT STAYED TO COME ON, STAY ON FOR 1-2 DAYS, THEN GOES OFF. THEN, FEW MONTHS LATER, IT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. SO, I TOOK IT TO A LEXUS DEALER TO CHECK IT. THEY IMMEDIATELY INFORMED ME THAT THE CAUSE WAS A DEFECTIVE SRS WIRE HARNESS, AS PER THE FAULT CODE B1861, WHICH LEXUS WAS WELL AWARE OF AND HAD ISSUED TSP, AND THE FIX WAS TO REPLACE THE SRS WIRE HARNESS WITH AN UPGRADED REPLACEMENT WHICH WOULD COST ME $3500-$4000. NOT BEING AWARE OF THIS ISSUE BEFORE I PURCHASED MY LEXUS, I DECIDED TO RESEARCH THE PROBLEM TO LEARN MORE BEFORE CONTACTING LEXUS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION CENTER, AS ADVISED BY THE DEALER. HOWEVER, LEXUS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION CENTER, AS WELL AS LEXUS CORPORATE OFFICE, REFUSED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND CARRY THE ENTIRE COST, EVEN SO THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THE DEFECT. THEREFORE, I'M LEFT WITH A CAR WITH NONFUNCTIONAL AIRBAG SYSTEM; IT WOULD COST ME AS MUCH AS 50% OF THE MARKET VALUE OF THE CAR; IT COULD NOT BE RESOLD; AND, IT WOULD NOT PASS THE DMV INSPECTION. ACCORDING TO ALL LEXUS DEALERS WHO INSPECTED THE PROBLEM, THIS SRS WIRE HARNESS IS LOCATED UNDER THE DASHBOARD AND CAN NOT BE DAMAGED EXCEPT DUE TO AN ACCIDENT WHERE DAMAGE REACHES THE DASHBOARD AREA. THEREFORE, IT'S LEXUS RESPONSIBILITY TO CARRY THE COST OF UPGRADING THE DEFECTED WIRE HARNESS. MOREOVER, THEY HAVE INFORMED THAT IT'S UNSAFE TO DRIVE THE CAR IN ITS CURRENT CONDITION BECAUSE THE AIRBAG SYSTEM MAY NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY IN AN ACCIDENT. HOWEVER, DUE TO THE HIGH COST OF FIXING THIS PROBLEM, I AM, LIKE MANY OTHER LEXUS OWNERS, LEFT WITH NO CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE IT THE WAY IT IT AND PRAY I WON'T GET IN ANY ACCIDENT.
HARNESS - FAILURE OF THE AIRBAG HARNESS CAUSING THE SRS LIGHT TO STAY ON. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND VERY COSTLY $3,00.00+. IT ALSO APPEARS TO BE WIDESPREAD AFFECTING VARIOUS MANUFACTURE YEARS INCLUDING MY 2008 MODEL IS250. I BELIEVE THIS WARRANTS A REVIEW.

WHEN I TURN ON MY CAR THE SRS LIGHT CAMES ON AND HAS STAYED ON. THIS DISABLES ALL SAFETY FEATURES. LEXUS HAS A TSB L-SB-0167-08 ADMITTING THE FAULTY DESIGN OF THE WIRING HARNESS. SINCE MY CAR HAS 82000 MILES WHEN THE LIGHT CAME ON LEXUS SAYS I'M OUT OF THE 70000 MILE WARRANTY. THEY WANT $2500 TO FIX THEIR FLAWED DESIGN WIRING HARNESS. MY FAMILY AND MY SAFETY AREON THE LINE HERE AND THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.

AFTER TAKING THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND INSPECTION THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYS ON. I TOOK TO PARK PLACE LEXUS GRAPEVINE FOR THE TAKATA RECALL REPLACEMENT. I TOLD THE SERVICE PERSON ABOUT THE LIGHT AND THEY TOLD ME $100 DOLLARS TO DIAGNOSE. THEY CALLED ME AND TOLD ME IT IS THE WIRE HARNESS WHICH CAUSES THE AIRBAG NOT TO FUNCTION AND THEY TELL ME IT WILL COST $3300 DOLLARS FOR A WIRE HARNESS. I SEE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED SO I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. I HAVE TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF MY CAR WHICH HAS 88K MILES AND I A M VERY UPSET THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME THOUSANDS FOR A MANUFACTURING ISSUE THEY HAVE KNOWN ABOUT.

LETTER ALSO STATES THAT RECALL WOULD BE DONE BY THE END OF 2016 FOR MY GROUP. THUS FAR I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM LEXUS, AND WHEN I REACHED OUT THEY SAID REMEDY IS STILL NOT AVAILABLE. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO SEAT ANYONE IN MY FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHICH IS CAUSING A LOT OF INCONVENIENCE TO MY DAILY LIFE.

I CALLED LOCAL LEXUS DEALERSHIP TWICE AND THE PARENT COMPANY ONCE TO QUESTION WHEN THE PASSENGER AIRBAG MAY BE REPLACED. I WAS TOLD IT IS NOT IN THEIR CONTROL. THE LAST TIME I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR, THE PERSON I SPOKE WITH WAS NOT HELPFUL. ALL 3 CALLS WERE FRUITLESS. I TRAVEL A LOT AND PASSENGERS HAVE TO SIT IN THE BACK. I NEED THE CAR FIXED SO I CAN SELL IT AND PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE-NOT A LEXUS! NOR ONE WITH TAKATA AIRBAGS.

TAKATA RECALL RECALL WAS ISSUED ON MAY 2016, AND NO REMEDY HAS BEEN GIVEN TO OWNERS YET. ALSO DASHBOARD WAS RECALLED FOR REPLACEMENT AS THEY BECAME STICKY / MELTED AND AT TIMES PRODUCE GLARE. LOCAL LEXUS DEALER APPROVED REPLACEMENT IN OCTOBER 2015, AND STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE DASHBOARDS FOR REPLACEMENT. CONTACTED LEXUS CORPORATE DIRECTLY, BUT DID NOT RECEIVE ANY SPECIFIC SET TIME FOR THE AVAILABILITY OF THE PART.

REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE." I HAVE CALLED THE WESTSIDE LEXUS SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN HOUSTON, TEXAS NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE I LEARNED OF THE RECALL. EACH TIME, I WAS ADVISED THAT THE REMEDY IS NOT AVAILABLE AND THAT THE DEALERSHIP WOULD CONTACT ME WHEN THEY HAVE A REMEDY AVAILABLE. I FIRST LEARNED OF THE RECALL NOTICE ON JUNE 29, 2016.

RECEIVED NOTICE FROM LEXUS THAT UNTIL A REMEDY BECOMES AVAILABLE THAT I DO NOT OPERATE THE CAR WITH A FRONT PASSENGER. FURTHERMORE, THAT IF I FEEL THAT LEXUS HAS FAILED TO REMEDY THE DEFECT IN A REASONABLE TIME, TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME IN THIS CASE IS, IN MY OPINION, IMMEDIATE. HENCE, THE REASON AND PURPOSE OF THIS COMPLAINT. THERE HAS BEEN NO PROBLEM THUS FAR.
TAKATA RECALL THE RECALL LETTER I RECEIVE FROM LEXUS REGARDING THE TAKATA AIR BAG RECALL ADVISED THE FOLLOWING "UNTIL A REMEDY BECOMES AVAILABLE, WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT OPERATE THE VEHICLE WITH AN OCCUPANT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT." THE CAR IS MAINLY USELESS TO ME NOW. I RARELY DRIVE IT BECAUSE I CAN NOT USE IT AS I INTENDED. I TYPICALLY HAVE A PASSENGER. NOW THE CAR SITS IN THE GARAGE. I ESSENTIALLY HAVE LOST USE OF THE CAR. I NEED COMPENSATION.

MY CAR IS A 2008 WITH ONLY 61K MILES ON IT. THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER. THEY SAID THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH A WIRING "SQUIB" AND MY ENTIRE AIRBAG SYSTEM WAS SHUT DOWN. IF I HAD GOTTEN INTO AN ACCIDENT, NOT ONE AIRBAG WOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. THE DEALER SAID TO FIX IT WILL MEAN REPLACING THE ENTIRE WIRING HARNESS AT A COST OF $2500. PER THE DEALER, THIS IS NOTHING THAT HAPPENED OVER TIME OR THROUGH WEAR AND TEAR. ALSO, THE DEALER SAID BY REPLACING THE ENTIRE WIRING HARNESS, I WAS REPLACING ITEMS THAT WERE NOT MALFUNCTIONING AS THIS WAS THE DIRECTION PER LEXUS. I CONTACTED LEXUS AND THEY SAID THEY WILL NOT COVER ANYTHING. IT WAS VERY ALARMING TO HEAR THAT WHILE THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON, I WAS DRIVING AROUND WITHOUT AIRBAGS. THE DEALER WAS SO CONCERNED THAT AFTER THE INITIAL DIAGNOSTIC TEST, HE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT I SERVICE IT NOW AND NOT DRIVE IT OFF THE LOT DUE TO SAFETY REASONS.

MY COMPLAINT IS IN REGARD TO THE SERVICE BULLETIN NO.: LSB-0167-08 COMPONENT(S): AIR BAGS , ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THIS SERVICE BULLETIN IS A SOLID PROOF THAT A CERTAIN MODELS OF LEXUS VEHICLES HAVE A DEFECTED AIRBAG SYSTEM COMPONENTS. YET, FOR THE UNLUCKY OWNERS OF THESE MODELS WHO EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM ONLY AFTER THE EXPIRATION OF THE DEALER'S WARRANTY, THEY FACE $3500 REPAIR BILL THE FIX A MANUFACTURING DEFAULT. BY GOOGLING THIS ISSUE, I CAME TO FIND OUT THAT MANY MANY LEXUS OWNERS HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. SOME WERE ABLE TO HAVE FIXED UNDER THE WARRANTY; WHILE OTHERS FOUND THE REPAIR TOO HIGH AND UNFAIR TO PAY FOR. SINCE LEXUS RECOGNIZES THE PROBLEM AND ADMITS TO THE DEFAULT, THEY MUST TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY AND REPAIR IT FREE OF CHARGE, WITH OR WITHOUT RECALL. I AND MANY CONSUMERS LIKE ME ARE COUNTING AND WAITING ON NHTSA TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT, AS THEY ALWAYS DO AT THE END. MOREOVER, SINCE WE ARE DRIVING OUR CARS WITH DEFAULTED AIRBAG SYSTEM(LEAVING ARE VEHICLES NOT AS SAFE AS THEY SHOULD BE), WE HOPE THIS ISSUE IS SOLVED A.S.A.P., BEFORE SOMETHING HAPPENS ON THE ROAD.

AIR BAG SRS LIGHT CAME ON. ON TAKING TO DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID THIS: "DTC B1861 - DRIVER'S SIDE KNEE SIDE SQUIB. RECOMMEND REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE HARNESS.". THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH 2006-2008 IS 250/350 MODELS WHERE WIRING ON THE HARNESS CAN GO SHORT AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE FROM LEXUS CORPORATE WITH THE FOLLOWING SERVICE BULLETIN: L-SB-0167-08. THE SERVICE BULLETIN IDENTIFIES THE FACTORY INSTALLED HARNESS AS THE ISSUE AND RECOMMENDS REPLACING IT.
