WHILE VEHICLE WAS AT A STOP, AND CONSUMER TRIED TO SWITCH TRANSMISSION PAWL, VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED.CONSUMER HAD TO STEP ON BRAKE PEDAL, PUT VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL, AND TURN OFF ENGINE SO THA TVEHICLE ENGINE COULD GO BACK TO NORMAL AFTER HAVING STRUCK A BLOCK WALL. *AK

WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE CAR STARTED ACCELERATING. CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ENGAGED, BUT WAS TURNED OFF TO SLOW DOWN. BRAKES WERE USED TO CONTROL SPEED UNTIL I REACHED A PARKING LOT WHERE I EXMAINED THE ENGINE. PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE CONNECTED TO THROTTLE LINKAGE. "JIGGLING" THE THROTTLE SLOWED THE ENGINE RPMS TO IDLE. PROBLEM OCCURRED FIVE MORE TIMES BEFORE I COULD GET THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC. HE CLEANED THE LINKAGE, REMOVED THE INTAKE AND DUCT, AND CLEANED THE VALVE AND TB PASSAGES. HE ALSO RECONNECTED A BROKEN (DOWN-SHIFT) CABLE CONNECTOR. PROBLEM HAS NOT RECURRED.

TV GROMMET FAILED THAT CONNECTS THE THROTTLE BODY LINKAGE, CAUSING THE THROTTLE CABLE AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO STICK, RESULTING IN SUDDEN UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION AND DAMAGE TO TRANSMISSION.
