Mazda issued a safety recall (Mazda safety recall 4320A, NHTSA campaign number 20V-063) to address daytime running light flickering/failure. At the time, only the passenger side daytime running light was replaced under the recall by Mazda, with a gasket/gas absorption sheet being installed on the driver's side. The driver's side daytime running light is now flickering/dim. Mazda did not repair the safety defect properly on the driver's side for the daytime running lights under Mazda safety recall 4320A, NHTSA campaign number 20V-063, because Mazda only installed the gasket/gas absorption sheets that have since failed, causing the daytime running lights to flicker, increasing the risk of crash. Mazda has refused to cover the cost for replacement of the daytime running lights per safety recall notice 4320A / NHTSA 20V-063, even though replacement of these lights is covered by the recall. Both a Mazda dealer and Mazda corporate customer service have been contacted regarding this issue and both have refused to provide the remedy as outlined in the safety recall. Mazda has provided an estimate of $1,466 to replace the daytime running lights. Only one headlight was addressed by dealer in repair for 4320A | NHTSA #20V-063 and they're refusing to cover the other side. The other DRL led light is now out from seemingly the same cause. They stated they did not fully follow the procedure in the documents I found regarding this recall when they repaired the first one because they "pre authorized" the swap of one side on "good faith" so there is not a record I can cite around the serial or lot numbers of the new or old lights on my own.

The controls on the Windshield Wiper/Headlight Control Stalk are not visible when driving at night. The setting markings on the Control Stalk are completely dark at night. This creates a safety hazard when driving at night in the rain and turning on your windshield wipers or changing your headlight settings is needed.

The contact checked the lights and noticed that the lights would not display or activate properly. There was no warning light illuminated. The dealer was contacted but the vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not associated with an unknown recall due to the date the vehicle was manufactured. Mazda has also issues two TSBs regarding the issue, I inquired while the vehicle was under warranty but they said the issue was not covered. TSB [XXX] and TSB [XXX]. It is available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Other cars won't be able to see my car during the daytime. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? There is a Mazda reference number for the recall is 4320A. There is also a NHTSA campaign number 20V063. NHTSA 20V063: [XXX] Mazda 4320A: [XXX] Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No, we can see the daytime running lights not working Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, there were no warnings, messages, or other symptoms prior to the failure. It happened a few weeks ago. I have called Mazda and they tell me it is not part of recall. My VIN number is in the range of the VIN numbers affected. Mazda refused to fix this recall issue because my VIN number is not associated with this recall. We brought our vehicle into Mazda Dealer in 2021 for campaign 20V-063(2016 CX-5 – Daytime Running Lights May Fail - Safety Recall 4320A). Our vehicle had one of the lights completely inoperable and the other flickered intermittently. Upon inspection by the dealer, they only repaired the inoperable light-unit and was unable to replicate the issue with the other light. However, the previously intermittent light is now completely inoperable and the dealer will no longer honor the repair since the campaign is closed. Please advise next steps to facilitate a repair. My vehicle does have an outstanding recall on the headlight. The dealership that was servicing my vehicle closed and said they had completed the recall but had not gotten to it before they closed up. Mazda says it's my problem they did the recall. My light does not work.

In 2020 I was sent a recall notice for my headlights. I took my car into Foothills Lincoln Mazda in Spokane, WA for the repair. They stated that my headlights were the wrong production dates so they did nothing for the recall yet marked the repair as "completed" according to Mazda. Now both my headlights are having issues with the daylight running lights with one light flickering and the other not working at all. I have checked the documentation that I could find for the recall and found that in the repair procedures for Mazda Recall Campaign 4320A NHTSA Recall #: 20V-063 , it states the VIN number range and production dates effected and my vehicle was in the range for both. I contacted the dealer about this and they told me to contact Mazda customer service. I contacted Mazda customer service and they stated that the repair was marked completed in their system. I sent them documentation showing that the dealer didn't do any repairs. They said that the production dates didn't fit. I showed them my VIN and production dates along with the repair procedure showing that my VIN and dates fit the recall. They then stated that the lights themselves didn't fit. I sent them more pictures illustrating that it did. This process has gone on for two months now and they are saying that it doesn't fit the recall but can provide no documentation to me as to what the effected VIN numbers are or the production dates are that my vehicle doesn't meet. Can someone please assist me with this issue as I have a one year old daughter and I am concerned with the safety of my vehicle?

I received a notice from NHTSA (Campaign No. 20V-063) in May 2020 regarding a recall on daytime running lights due a problem with flickering or not lighting at all. A local dealership changed the lights in September 2020 at no charge to me. Now in September 2021 I see that the passenger side DRL is flickering constantly.

LED daytime running lights (DRLs) failing while driving. Recall don for similar vehicles (4320A recall). This could impact the ability for pedestrians or nearby vehicles to see the SUV, particularly in low-light conditions when the low- or high-beam headlights aren't in use.

LED daytime running lights. 1 is sporadic/ flickering, and the other one is now out/ inoperable, soon the flickering one will go also. Making the vehicle harder to see by other drivers. Mazda has a recall # 4320A but my vin# is excluded? I have the same parts/ model #s as the recall! An extension of the recall, out to include my vin# would be appropriate.

THE FOLLOWING WARNING AND WARNING LIGHTS BEGAN AROUND 34,980 MILES ON MY 2016.5 MAZDA CX-5 GRAND TOURING 2.5L SKYACTIV-G WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE: MASTER WARNING LIGHT, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, POWER STEERING, KEYLESS SYSTEM MALFUNCTION, SMART CITY BRAKE SUPPORT MALFUNCTION, FORWARD SCBS DISABLED, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, TCS/DSC INDICATOR LIGHT, TCS OFF INDICATOR LIGHT, BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) OFF INDICATION, BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT, ABS WARNING LIGHT, ELECTRIC BRAKE WARNING LIGHT, AIR BAG/FRONT SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT, TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT, LED HEADLIGHT WARNING LIGHT, AND THE SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK. THE VEHICLE TAKES SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO TURN OFF. USING THE LEFT BLINKER WILL CAUSE THE VEHICLES POWER TO RESTART AND YES, WHILE DRIVING! THIS OCCURRED AGAIN DECEMBER 15, 2020 AND MARCH 5, 2021 WHEN I DECIDED MAZDA NEEDS TO RUN A DIAGNOSIS BECAUSE CLEARLY SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT. MY DEALERSHIP INSISTED IT WAS MY BATTERY (BASICALLY THE ONLY WARNING LIGHT NOT ON) AND MY REAR BRAKE PADS. THEN WHEN THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE ISSUE, THEY SAID CORROSION NEEDED TO BE CLEANED WHICH WAS NOT SHOWN IN THE VEHICLE INSPECTION VIDEO. ALSO, MY CAR WAS JUST SERVICED AT MY MAZDA DEALERSHIP JULY 2020 WITH 33,706 MILES. SEPTEMBER 2020 MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND I RETURNED TO A LARGE CRACK ON THE DRIVER SIDE. AROUND 25,000 THE TIRED NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, NOW AT 36,666 MILES TIRE THREAD DEPTH IS IN THE YELLOW' MY VEHICLE ALIGNMENT HAS ZERO ISSUES AND MY MAZDA DEALERSHIP IS THE ONLY ONE WHO ROTATES THE TIRES (OR SUPPOSE TO).

FEB 06,2020 MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER4320A NHTSA RECALL NUMBER20V-063 ONE OF MY DRLS HAS BEEN BURNED OUT FOR OVER A YEAR. MAZDA SAYS THEY DON'T HAVE PARTS AVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE RECALL. IT HAS BEEN OVER A YEAR. FURTHERMORE, THE DEALER WILL NOT PROMISE TO PRIORITIZE FIXING ISSUES ON CARS WHERE THE LIGHTS ALREADY BROKEN, WHEN THE PARTS BECOME AVAILABLE, WHICH MEANS OWNERS WITH WORKING LIGHTS MAY GET THEIR RECALL REPAIR BEFORE I DO, WHICH IS CERTAINLY A SAFETY ISSUE. THIS IS UNTRUE, I HAVE TRIED MULTIPLE TIMES TO HAVE THE DEFECT CORRECTED ONLY TO BE TOLD PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. ARE THEY COMPLYING WITH THEIR OBLIGATIONS UNDER THIS RECALL? I CAN'T HELP BUT THINK THEY ARE NOT BEING TRUTHFUL ABOUT THEIR FAILURE TO PROVIDE THE REQUIRED PARTS.

I HAVE TRIED SINCE FEB 2020 TO GET MY #20V-063 HEADLIGHT REPLACEMENT PER THE RECALL ISSUED AND THE FITGERALD MAZDA IN ANNAPOLIS MD TOLD ME SINCE THEN THAT THEY COULDN'T GET THE PARTS FROM MAZDA. I TRIED TO BOOK AN APPOINTMENT AGAIN TO HAVE THIS FIXED ON 11/11/20 - AN APPOINTMENT THEY ACCEPTED ONLY TO BE TOLD ONCE I GOT THERE AFTER THE INSPECTION THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS AND CANNOT GET THE PARTS FROM MAZDA. I WAS ONE OF THE INITIAL CUSTOMERS TO REPORT THIS ISSUE AND RECEIVED A NEW HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY FOR THE DRIVER'S SIDE REPLACEMENT AND NOT SIX MONTHS LATER, THE OTHER SIDE WENT OUT. I UNDERSTAND COVID LIMITATIONS BUT MAZDA NEEDS TO PROVIDE THE PARTS TO COMPLY WITH THIS RECALL CORRECT?

I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE IN MARCH 2020 REGARDING LED DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS. I CONTACTED THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE AND TOOK MY VEHICLE IN TO BE SERVICED JULY 13, 2020. AT THIS TIME, I WAS TOLD BY MAZDA THAT THE PART NECESSARY FOR THE REPAIR WAS ON BACKORDER, AND WOULD BE RECEIVED IN APPROXIMATELY THREE WEEKS. I CALLED TO FOLLOW UP ON THIS IN LATE AUGUST. I WAS TOLD BY THE MAZDA SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THE PART WAS ON BACKORDER WITH NO ETA ON ITS AVAILABILITY. I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEM WHILE DRIVING, BUT I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE MY RECALL NOTICE STATED THAT I SHOULD REPORT IF "MAZDA DOES NOT REPAIR THE DEFECT WITHIN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME." I LIVE IN THE STATE OF HAWAII AND VEHICLES ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE AN ANNUAL SAFETY INSPECTION COMPLETED. DUE TO THE RECALL AND DEFECT OF MY HEADLIGHTS, MY VEHICLE IS UNABLE TO PASS THE SAFETY INSPECTION. MY SAFETY INSPECTION WAS DUE TO BE COMPLETED IN JUNE 2020. MY 2016 CX-5 GT IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY BASED ON MODEL YEAR, ALTHOUGH IT ONLY HAS 21000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS ALMOST EVERY OTHER OWNER OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL, WHICH IS THAT THE LED DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ON ONE SIDE (SO FAR) HAVE STOPPED WORKING. THIS SEEMS TO POSE A SAFETY HAZARD TO OTHERS AND MYSELF. THE ONLY SOLUTION MAZDA CURRENTLY HAS IS TO REPLACE THE WHOLE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY AT AN APPROXIMATE COST OF $1,200. I CANNOT AFFORD THIS FIX ESPECIALLY WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE LED LIGHT LIKELY TO FAIL AT ANY TIME BRINGING THE COST TO $2,400. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN TO OTHER DRIVERS ESPECIALLY THOSE THAT HAVE AN ADVERSE REACTION TO THE STROBE-EFFECT NATURE OF THE FLICKERING LIGHT THAT CAN TRIGGER SEIZURES. IT IS ALSO A SAFETY CONCERN TO ME IF I'M LESS VISIBLE TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I CALLED UP THE MAZDA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE AND DID NOT RECEIVE A GOOD EXPERIENCE SINCE THEY SAID THEY NEEDED A DIAGNOSTIC WHEN YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE THE LIGHT FLICKERS VISUALLY. THE DIAGNOSTIC COSTS $150. I DON'T SEE THE POINT IN PAYING $150 TO DIAGNOSIS SOMETHING YOU CAN VISUALLY SEE THERE IS A PROBLEM WHICH IS ALREADY A KNOWN ISSUE AMONG CX-5 OWNERS.

DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT ISSUE - SEEMS LIKE A LARGE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE, LIGHT FLICKERS BEFORE IT FINALLY BLOWS, DRL ONLY COME ON WHEN VEHICLE IS IN "DRIVE", SO ONLY WHEN IN MOTION, DOESN'T MATTER WHAT TYPE OF ROAD, OR DIRECTION OF TRAVEL. THE FLICKERING IS A HAZARD FOR OTHER DRIVERS, AND IS MAJORLY ANNOYING TO OWNER, THE FIX IS NEARLY $1000 TO REPAIR. CAME HOME AND UPON LOOKING AT IT, I COULDN'T BELIEVE HOW OTHER DRIVERS MIGHT HAVE BEEN ANNOYED WHEN LOOKING THRU THEIR REAR VIEW MIRROR. IT IS ABSOLUTELY A SAFETY HAZARD AND MAZDA SHOULD FIX THIS ISSUE ASAP NO COST TO CAR OWNERS. SEARCHING ONLINE, HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF DRIVERS HAVE REPORTED THIS ISSUE.

I EXAMINED THE LIGHT IN MY GARAGE LATER ON AND NOTICED THAT THE LIGHT WAS ALSO FLICKERING IN A RANDOM PATTERN. AFTER DISCOVERING THIS ISSUE, I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO MY DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS QUOTED $1097.02 PLUS TAXES. $887.02 FOR A NEW HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY AND $210 IN LABOR. I WAS NOT ABLE TO GET COVERAGE UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE I WAS 10K OVER THE 36K LIMIT. WITH TAXES TOSSED IN, I'M LOOKING AT OVER $1200 FOR A HEADLIGHT, WHICH IS COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS! ESPECIALLY FOR A VEHICLE THAT IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD AND THAT I HAVE OWNED FOR LESS THAN A YEAR. A QUICK SEARCH ONLINE ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE REVEALED NUMEROUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. MAZDA IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND HAS BEEN REPLACING THESE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES WITH A REVISED VERSION THAT ADDRESSES THE ISSUE. A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN INITIATED EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS OF THIS ISSUE ON FORUMS AND THE NHTSA WEBSITE.

THE VEHICLE MANUAL STATES THAT FAILURE OF ANY BULB OR LIGHT IN THE HEADLIGHT CLUSTER NECESSITATES REPLACEMENT OF THE WHOLE UNIT. SINCE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY REPLACEMENT IS ESTIMATED TO BE OVER $1100 FOR JUST ONE SIDE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND AGREED TO ASSIST THE CONTACT WITH FINANCING THE REPAIRS. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE ORIGINAL DEALER TO HAVE THE PASSENGER SIDE LIGHT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED WITH THE DRIVER'S SIDE DAYTIME RUNNING LAMP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AGAIN ABOUT THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE MOST RECENT FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 68,000.

DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS FAILED AT THE 3-YEAR MARK. ORIGINAL HEADLIGHTS (HALOGEN BULBS) ARE STILL WORKING FINE. NO WAY A HALOGEN SHOULD OUTLAST AN LED. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW OR AN ATTEMPT AT DESIGNED OBSOLESCENCE GONE WRONG. EITHER WAY, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. WE BELIEVE THIS TO BE A SAFETY DEFECT AND THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED BY THE NHTSA TO REQUIRE THE MANUFACTURER (MAZDA) TO REPLACE BOTH DEFECTIVE SEALED LED HEADLIGHT UNITS. OUR MAZDA DEALER REFUSES TO DEAL WITH THIS ISSUE ON A WARRANTY BASIS. BASED ON OUR RESEARCH THIS FAILURE GENERALLY OCCURS AROUND THE 36,000 MILE MARK. IF A HEADLIGHT CANNOT BE REPLACED, AT NIGHT, FAR FROM A DEALER, THEN A SUBSTANTIAL SAFETY ISSUE EXISTS. DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS DO NOT FUNCTION WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION OR STATIONARY. PROBLEM IS REPRODUCED DURING EVERY TRIP OR BY TURNING ON THE PARKING LIGHTS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED. WHEN PURCHASED, I WAS TOLD I WOULD NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE NEW LED LIGHTS AND THAT THEY WOULDN'T BURN OUT LIKE OLD-STYLE LAMPS. THEY HAVE STOPPED FUNCTIONING LESS THAN 3 MONTHS AFTER MY 3-YEAR/36,000-MILE WARRANTY EXPIRED. I HAVE DRIVEN LESS THAN 22,500 MILES AND THE DEALERSHIP IS QUOTING ME $1,500 TO REPAIR WHAT SHOULD BE <$100 (CONSERVATIVELY) FOR LEDS. LOOKING ONLINE, THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON COMPLAINT FROM OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE, AND APPARENTLY MAZDA HAS REVISED THE REPLACEMENT PART NUMEROUS TIMES BUT PEOPLE ARE STILL EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS AND COSTS TO CONSUMERS ARE INCREASING FOR THIS SAFETY FEATURE.

THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ON MY 2016 CX-5 HAVE FAILED AFTER TWO YEARS AND 38900 MILES. YOU CANNOT REPLACE THE "BULB" FOR A FEW DOLLARS. YOU MUST REPLACE THE ENTIRE LIGHT UNIT THAT INCLUDES LOW BEAM, HIGH BEAM, TURN SIGNAL, AND DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS (DRL). THIS UNIT COSTS MINIMUM OF $400.00 AND UP TO $1200.00 WHEN INSTALLED BY DEALER. THIS IS AN EXORBITANT PRICE TO PAY FOR A SIMPLE LED BULB THAT SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN TWO YEARS IN THE FIRST PLACE.

FULL HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY MUST BE REPLACED. WHEN DRL ARE OFF IT CAN POTENTIALLY CREATE SAFETY HAZARDS FOR DRIVERS OF VEHICLE AND OTHER VEHICLES AROUND.

WHILE ON A RECENT HIGHWAY ROAD TRIP, MY 2016 MAZDA CX-5'S DRIVER SIDE DAYTIME RUNNING LED LIGHTS, WHICH COME EQUIPPED WITH THE TECHNOLOGY PACKAGE, STOPPED ILLUMINATING PROPERLY. THE DAYTIME RUNNING LAMP LED LIGHTS IN QUESTION WILL FLICKER OR NOT ILLUMINATE AT ALL. I FOUND THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE AS DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ARE EQUIPPED ON VEHICLES TO ENHANCE VISIBILITY AND SAFETY. A FLICKERING DAYTIME RUNNING LAMP CAN CAUSE SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERNS RESULTING IN DISTRACTED DRIVING RELATED COLLISIONS. MAZDA ADVERTISED THESE SPECIFIC HEADLAMPS AS BEING A LONG LASTING AND PROVIDING ENHANCED SAFETY AS THEY ADAPT TO CHANGING ROADWAY CONDITIONS. UPON CONDUCTING INDEPENDENT RESEARCH INTO THE DRL (DAYTIME RUNNING LAMP), IT WAS LEARNED THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THE 2016 MAZDA CX-5, WITH THE TECHNOLOGY PACKAGE / LED HEADLAMPS, HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE ALMOST AS SOON AS THE BASIC FACTORY WARRANTY EXPIRES. IT WAS THEN LEARNED THE AVERAGE COST TO GET THIS SITUATION REMEDIED WOULD RESULT IN HAVING TO PAY ALMOST $1500 - $2000 TO GET THE WHOLE HEADLAMP UNIT REPLACED. RESEARCH ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE REVEALED A FAULTY GASKET AT THE BASE OF THE HEADLAMP UNIT WHICH CAUSED MOISTURE/GAS TO DEVELOP ON THE INTERIOR OF THE HEADLAMP LENS, THIS IS ALSO PRESENT ON THIS VEHICLE. I FEEL THIS COULD POTENTIALLY BE CAUSING THE HEADLAMP DRL TO MALFUNCTION DUE TO A MOISTURE BUILD UP, OR THE UNIT IS ALL TOGETHER DEFECTIVE FOR A CERTAIN GROUPING OF CX-5'S WITH THIS HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY I FEEL A RECALL INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF THE MALFUNCTION. I FEEL THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT ISSUE AS IT WAS LEARNED THERE WAS A RECENT NATIONAL BACK ORDER FOR THESE HEADLAMPS, I FIND THAT SUSPICIOUS IF THEY WERE TO BE IN PROPER WORKING ORDER.

THE LEFT FRONT HEADLIGHT ON THE VEHICLE IS FLICKERING AND SOMETIMES GOES OUT. THIS HEADLIGHT IS KNOWN TO HAVE ISSUES AND BASED ON THE PART NUMBERS FROM MAZDA, IT HAS BEEN REDESIGNED MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE PAST 2 YEARS. WITH THIS MANY REDESIGN ATTEMPTS I AM JUST ASSUMING THEY ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE HEADLIGHT AND SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL. THIS VEHICLE IS JUST OUT OF WARRANTY AS IT HAS 37,500 MILES AND THE WARRANTY IS ONLY TO 36,000 MILES. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS US TO PAY FOR THE HEADLIGHT WHICH IS $1,500 DOLLARS IN PARTS ALONE. THIS SEEMS OUTRAGEOUS FOR A VEHICLE THAT IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD. SEARCHING ONLINE THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH MAZDA AND HAVING A HEADLIGHT GO OUT DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN LET ALONE A QUALITY OF WORKMANSHIP CONCERN. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED WITH A RECALL.

SHORTLY AFTER GOING OVER 36,000 MILES (STANDARD WARRANTY EXPIRATION) THE DRIVER'S SIDE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT (DRL) LED'S DIMMED AND THEN FLICKER CONTINUOUSLY. THIS SHOULD BE A SIMPLE LED BULB, TRANSFORMER, OR BALLAST REPLACEMENT, BUT THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP QUOTED $1,275 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY. APPARENTLY THE DRL LED'S ARE NOT INDIVIDUALLY SERVICEABLE. AFTER DOING SOME QUICK RESEARCH, THERE ARE MULTIPLE MAZDA CX-5 OWNER FORUMS REPORTING THIS ISSUE BETWEEN 24,000 AND 36,000 MILES AFFECTING BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DRL LED'S. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE IN THE FACT THAT THERE ARE COUNTRIES AND STATES THAT REQUIRE DRL USE. TYPICALLY, IF A HEADLIGHT BULB GOES OUT IT IS A MAINTENANCE COST OF SOMEWHERE AROUND $25 TO $50 DOLLARS. AN LED BULB WOULD TYPICALLY COST MORE, BUT TO POTENTIALLY SPEND $10,000 DOLLARS (8 HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES AT $1,250 EACH) OVER THE LIFETIME OF THE VEHICLE (TYPICALLY 120,000 MILES) SEEMS A LITTLE EXCESSIVE. I AM HOPING FOR A FUTURE SERVICE BULLETIN FROM MAZDA TO COVER THIS DESIGN DEFECT (SIMILAR TO THE ONE REGARDING THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY GAS CLOUDING ISSUE).

I NOTICED RECENTLY IN TRAFFIC THAT ONLY ONE OF MY RUNNING LIGHTS WAS REFLECTING ON THE BACK OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND A LOT OF STORIES OF THIS LIGHT GOING OUT PREMATURELY, AND THE REPAIR IS COSTLY SINCE THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT UNIT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. MY WARRANTLY EXPIRED LESS THAN TWO WEEKS AGO, BUT I AM GOING TO TRY TO GET MAZDA TO COVER IT. I AM SUBMITTING THIS COMPLAINT IN THE HOPES THAT MAZDA WILL START COVERING THIS REPAIR FOR CARS EVEN OUT OF WARRANTY, AS THESE LEDS SHOULD NOT FAIL AT 3 YEARS OLD.

THERE ARE TWO PROBLEMS WITH THE TURN SIGNAL. FIRST AND FOREMOST, ON VEHICLES THAT ARE EQUIPPED WITH LED HEADLIGHTS AND LED DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS, IT IS VERY HARD TO DISTINGUISH THE TURN INDICATOR SINCE IT IS AN INCANDESCENT BULB, IT IS NOT AS BRIGHT AS THE LED DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS THAT WHEN THEY ARE ILLUMINATED AND LOOKING STRAIGHT AT THE VEHICLE, IT IS HARD TO TELL IF THE TURN SIGNAL IS ACTIVATED. THIS COULD BE FIXED BY EXTINGUISHING THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT TEMPORARILY WHILE THE TURN SIGNAL ON THE SIDE WHICH THE INDICATOR IS ACTIVATED. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT MARKER BULB IS HARD TO DISTINGUISH FROM THE SIDE, IT SHOULD BE A SEPARATE BULB ON THE ASSEMBLY. THE REAR MARKER LIGHT IS MUCH MORE PRONOUNCED AND VISIBLE NOT ONLY BECAUSE IT IS AN LED BULB, BUT BECAUSE IT IS A SEPARATE FIXTURE FROM THE TURN SIGNAL AMBER COMBINATION LAMP.

HEADLIGHT CLEAR LENS IS MELTING FROM INSIDE. CLEAR LENS THAT COVERS HEADLIGHT HAS COATING INSIDE AND OUTSIDE. IT IS THE INSIDE COATING THAT IS FLOWING DOWN. LOOKS LIKE IT WAS OVER-APPLIED DURING MANUFACTURING PROCESS. BUT IN TIME, IT'S APPEARANCE IS BECOMING MORE AND MORE VISIBLE. BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT. MAKING THE CAR LOOKING LIKE 10 YEAR OLD. APPEARANCE ISSUE WAS PRESENT IN PARKING LOT OF DEALER. DEALER KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND ASSURED ME TO REPLACE IT. BUT AVOIDING MY CALLS FOR SIX MONTHS. MAZDA CUSTOMER SERVICE TELLS ME TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO SERVICE CENTER. SO I TOOK THE CAR TO SERVICE, AND MAZDA TECHNICIAN GUY TOOK A LOOK AT IT AND PICTURED. NO ONE IS ANSWERING MY CALLS NOR GIVING ME ANY UPDATE ON HEADLIGHT REPLACEMENT.
