This vehicle is subject to recall #: 17V-082 referring to a drivers seat lifter link than can break. My car has a broken lifter link, was brought to the dealership and instead of replacing the entire seat adjuster unit like the recall states, they simply installed a reinforcement bracket. When brought back to Med Center Mazda they state it has already been repaired and therefore cannot be repaired again. The vehicle still has a broken seat lifter link.
Monday 7/10/2023 car was fine ie (the seat) next day Tues 7/11/2023 opened drivers side door couldn’t believe my eyes. The driver seat had somehow migrated clear up to an inch from my chest to the steering wheel. I called Maple Shade Turnersville to make an appointment-wasn’t able to get in until 7/20/2023. I was told I had to return on 7/24/2023. Did that. Appt was 7:30AM. Was given a loaner car. At around 10:30 Am Mazda Tuenersville called to ask me to return the loaner (?). When I arrived Pat Kearny told me he couldn’t do anything to help with the car seat. Told me my car was too old that they didn’t make parts for my 2010 Mazda 3 for the already recalled seat problems. Now I’m in a big bind. My steering wheel is one inch from my chest. I am very upset what happened here.
The contact owns a 2010 Mazda Mazda3. The contact stated upon opening the driver's side door, she noticed that the front driver's side seat had independently moved closer to the steering wheel. The contact stated that the seat failed to move back to the original position after several attempts. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to squeeze herself into the seat and drove to the dealer, who informed the contact that the driver's side seat bolts needed to be broken to move the seat. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V082000 (Seats); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.

I BELIEVE THAT (RECALL CAMPAIGN 0917B) SAFETY RECALL APPLIES TO MY 2010 MAZDA3 GT, ALTHOUGH IT TOOK OVER 2.5 YEARS TO OCCUR (AUGUST 2017) THE COMPLETE FALLOUTS DIDN'T HAPPEN UNTIL NOW...(DECEMBER 2020) INITIALLY, FELT A POP IN MY BACK (FROM THE FRAME?) WHILE I WAS DRIVING, PULLED OVER AND THE SEATS MOVED FINE SO DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF. MEANWHILE, A DISTINCT RATTLING OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY BEHIND ME. TOOK THE CAR TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP (PAID THEIR SPECIAL SERVICE DIAGNOSTIC FEE OF ($165+) WITH 'MASTER TECHNICIANS' WHO KNOW ABOUT THIS SEAT RECALL, YET, FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SEAT OR EVEN LOOKED IF YOU ASK ME, YET WANTED ME TO CORRECT THE NOISE BY BY INSTALLING BOTH FRONT AND REAR NEW SUSPENSION (~$1000). TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A SUSPENSION SPECIALIST AND FOUND ONLY ONE (1) PART OF THE SUSPENSION THAT MAY HAVE REQUIRED CORRECTING BUT WAS STILL IN GOOD CONDITION. I ASKED IF THE REMAINING SUSPENSION COMPONENTS WERE SAFE AND IF THEY WOULD NEED REPLACEMENT. AND THEY SAID'NO' ONLY ONE (1), AND IT WAS BARELY DAMAGED, BUT I REPLACED IT ANYWAY. TOOK IT BACK FOR AN OIL CHANGE SINCE THEY WERE TREATING ME HONESTLY. TWO DAYS LATER, AS I WAS LEAVING MY WORK, THE SEAT FELL OFF THE RIGHT RAIL AS I WAS DRIVING. IN RETROSPECT, THE PUSH NUTS ON THE RIGHT SIDE POPPED OFF AND THE DRIVER'S SEAT BACK FRAME HAS LOST ITS INTEGRITY, SO I SAT ASKEW. UNABLE TO DRIVE SAFELY UNLESS A PIECE OF WOOD IS HOLDING THE SEAT TO THE RAIL. IS IT POSSIBLE TO STILL REPAIR MY CAR'S DRIVER'S SEAT UNDER THE AFOREMENTIONED SAFETY RECALL? I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING AND AM WITHOUT OPTIONS AT THIS TIME. PLEASE HELP!!

I HAVE HAD MY DASH REPLACED (WESCOTT, NATIONAL CITY, CA) BUT NO ONE MENTIONED THE SEAT PROBLEM THAT I CAN RECALL. NOW IT IS DECEMBER 2020 AND THE ENTIRE RIGHT SIDE OF THE SEAT HAS BROKEN? WHILE DRIVING I SIT ASKEW THE RIGHT HALF OF MY BODY IS LOWER THAN THE OTHER. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR ANOTHER SEAT WHEN THIS WAS AN ACTIVE RECALL NO MATTER THE DELAY.

MY DASHBOARD ABOVE THE STEERING WHEEL IS VERY HARD TO CLEAN AND HAS A CONSTANT VERY BAD GLARE THAT WONT GO AWAY, AND MAKES IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO SEE THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD AT TIMES. IT'S ALMOST AS IF ITS MELTING. IT HAS BEEN LIKE THIS SINCE I BOUGHT IT AROUND 2 YEARS AGO. MY DRIVER SEAT STARTED SHIFT WHEN I TURN CORNERS, LAST WEEK 6/24/2020 AND I'M SCARED FOR MINE AND MY BABIES SAFETY AS I AM A NEW MOM, ALSO THE WELLBEING OF OTHERS ON THE ROAD. MY DRIVER SEAT HAS SUBSTANTIAL UNWANTED MOVEMENT. I WAS GETTING OUT OF THE VEHICLE WHEN I HEARD A LOUD CRACK. THE SEAT NOW MOVES 2" BACK AND FORTH WHILE ACCELERATING AND DECELERATING. THIS IS IMPAIRING MY ABILITY TO PROPERLY USE THE CLUTCH PEDAL AND MAINTAINING SPEED WITH THE GAS PEDAL.

THE BRACE THAT CONNECTS THE BOTTOM OF THE SET TO THE MECHANISM THAT PIVOTS AS THE HEIGHT OF THE SEAT IS ADJUSTED HAD A WELD THAT FAILED / CRACKED. THIS SEEMS VERY SIMILAR TO THE 17V082000 NHTSA CAMPAIGN THAT EFFECTED THE SAME MODEL YEAR CAR, EXCEPT THIS IS A POWER SEAT INSTEAD OF A MANUAL SEAT. THE PART THAT FAILED IS IN THE SAME LOCATION OF THE SEAT FRAME AND APPEARS TO SERVE THE SAME PURPOSE THAT WAS RECALLED UNDER 17V082000. THE RESULT IS THE SAME, THE SEAT IS BECOMING DETACHED FROM THE FRAME AND INCLINES MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN A SAFE DRIVING POSITION.

I'VE SCHEDULED THE RECALL REPAIRS THREE TIMES ,WITH THREE DIFFERENT MAZDA DEALERSHIPS, SINCE JUNE 2018, WHEN MY HATCHBACK SMASHED AGAINST MY HEAD (PICTURES ATTACHED). EACH TIME A DAY OR TWO BEFORE THE SCHEDULED RECALL REPAIRS EACH DEALERSHIP HAD CALLED AND CANCELED THE RECALL REPAIRS WITH NO AVAILABILITY ON A RESCHEDULE DATE AVAILABLE. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. I ATTEMPTED TO RESCHEDULE THE RECALL REPAIRS TODAY AUGUST 21,2019 , THERE IS NO DATES AVAILABLE AT ANY MAZDA DEALERSHIPS WITHIN 100 MILES OF MY LOCATION FOR MORE THAN ONE YEAR FROM NOW. SO IN MY OPINION THIS IS MAZDA COMPLETELY FAILING TO COMPLETE A TIMELY REPAIR ON MAZDA RECALLS. *TT *TR

BUT THEY REFUSED. I KNOW THIS IS A FREE SERVICE, BUT HOW CAN THEY ONLY GIVE US SCHEDULE FOR WEEKDAYS AND REFUSE TO DO THE WORK FOR WEEKENDS. THIS IS ABOUT SAFETY. I DON'T DRIVE THIS CAR OFTEN, BUT I STILL WANT THIS TO BE DONE. I THINK IT IS WRONG THAT THE DEALERSHIP REFUSE RECALLS SERVICE. I DON'T THINK THEY WILL REFUSE THE SERVICE THAT PAY THEM MONEY. MAZDA IS STATING THIS TYPE OF WEAR AND DAMAGE IS EXPECTED TO HAPPEN TO THIS PART OF THE CAR AND IS NORMAL. RECENT MAZDA SERVICE LOCATION VISITED DISAGREES. THEY REPLACED MY DASH BUT STATED THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PART FOR MY SEAT. I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD GET IN TOUCH WITH ME ABOUT THE SEAT. I HAVE CALLED THREE TIMES SINCE AND THEY APPEAR TO BE IGNORING ME. THIS ROCKING HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT FOUR MONTHS OF LESS. SOMETHING JUST POPPED ONE DAY AND THE ROCKING HAPPENED.

THE DEALERSHIP VERIFIED THE RECALL AND SERVICE IN MAY 2017 AND WAS INFORMED THAT PARTS WILL NEED TO BE ORDERED. WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A CALL BACK IN A WEEK OR TWO. AFTER SEVERAL REPEATED ATTEMPTS AT CALLING AND EMAILING THE DEALERSHIP, I CANNOT REACH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO CHECK ON THE STATUS OF ORDERED PARTS. THE TIME FRAME FOR THE REPAIR FROM THE UNSAFE CONDITIONS OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT THAT MOVES WHILE I SHIFT, AND THE HORRENDOUS GLARE FROM THE MELTING DASHBOARD, IS TO SLOW FOR RESOLUTION. IT HAS BEEN 3 MONTHS SINCE HAVING MY CAR INSPECTED AT ROSENTHAL MAZDA/GAITHERSBURG MAZDA AT 625 NORTH FREDERICK AVENUE IN GAITHERSBURG, MD 20879. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY RESPONSE OF COMMUNICATIONS INFORMING ME OF THE STATUS OF GETTING MY CAR REPAIRED OR MY RIGHTS AS A CONSUMER.

AFTER APPROXIMATELY 60 DAYS, I CONTACTED THE CORPORATE WARRANTY DEPARTMENT FOR MAZDA. THEY SAY THAT THERE IS NO WAY TO EXPEDITE THE PROCESS OF REPLACING THE FAILED PART.

AFTER DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, IT'S OBVIOUS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2010 MAZDA3. YET MAZDA REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I WENT TO THE MAZDA DEALER AND WAS QUOTED $582 DOLLARS JUST FOR THE PARTS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE SEAT, WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE THE LABOR COST. I ALSO WENT TO THE MAZDA WEBSITE AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THREE WEEKS HAVE PASSED AND NO ONE FROM MAZDA HAS CONTACTED ME. ALL I RECEIVED WAS AN AUTOMATED EMAIL SAYING "DUE TO THE UNUSUALLY LARGE NUMBER OF EMAILS RECEIVED OUR RESPONSE TIME MAY BE DELAYED". I DON'T THINK MAZDA WILL EVER RESPOND.

BASED ON THE WELD POINTS ON THE PASSENGER SEAT AND THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE DRIVERS SEAT, I CAN'T IMAGINE THAT THIS PART WOULD HAVE EVER FAILED, BUT IT HAS AND ON NUMEROUS MAZDA 3 MODELS. THE FRONT DRIVER'S SEAT SHOULD BE FASTENED TO THE SLIDE ADJUSTER WITH FOUR PUSH NUTS (TWO PER SIDE), BUT EARLIER VIN NUMBERS ARE MISSING PUSH NUTS EITHER FROM WEAR OR BECAUSE MAZDA DID NOT INCLUDE THEM IN THE ORIGINAL DESIGN. BECAUSE THE PUSH NUTS ARE MISSING, THE SEAT FREELY ROCKS BACK AND FORTH. THE ROCKING CAN BE SO EXTREME THAT THE ENTIRE SEAT ROTATES BACKWARDS ONTO THE REAR BENCH. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE FOR AT LEAST TWO REASONS: 1) IF THE AIRBAG WERE TO DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT, THE FORCE WOULD KNOCK THE DRIVER AND SEAT BACKWARD RATHER THAN ABSORB THE IMPACT OF THE DRIVER'S BODY; AND 2) IF THE SEAT SUDDENLY ROCKED BACKWARD WHILE DRIVING, THE DRIVER COULD LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE SPRING RETAINER HAD POPPED OFF THE LOCATING PIN ALLOWING THE SHEET METAL TO BEND AND THE PIN TO COME OUT OF ITS RETAINING HOLE. I ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE THE SPRING RETAINER, BUT THE SHEET METAL SNAPPED DUE TO WORK HARDENING. THE FAILURE MECHANISM APPEARS TO OCCUR BECAUSE THE SHEET METAL IS STAMPED DURING MANUFACTURE AND A HOLE APPROXIMATELY 1/2 THE WIDTH OF THE SHEET METAL IS PUNCHED THROUGH THE SHEET METAL DRASTICALLY REDUCING ITS STRENGTH. I PURCHASED A NEW SLIDE MECHANISM BECAUSE MAZDA DOES NOT HAVE A RECALL OR SPECIAL SERVICE PROGRAM FOR THIS FAILURE. HOWEVER, WHEN I EXAMINED THE NEW SLIDE MECHANISM, I DISCOVERED THAT MAZDA HAS SIGNIFICANTLY REDESIGNED THIS PART TO PREVENT THE TYPE OF FAILURE THAT I EXPERIENCED. THE NEW PIECE DOES NOT HAVE THE PUNCHED HOLE, BUT INSTEAD HAS A REINFORCED BOSS AS WELL AS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF WELDING TO ENSURE THE PIECE CANNOT BEND OR BREAK. MY GUESS IS THAT THE NEW DESIGN IS AT LEAST 100 TIMES MORE DURABLE THAN THE ORIGINAL DESIGN. OBVIOUSLY, MAZDA CONSIDERED THE OLD DESIGN TO BE SUBSTANDARD. I BELIEVE THAT THIS SHOULD BE THE SUBJECT OF A RECALL TO VERIFY THAT THE SEAT RETENTION HAS NOT FAILED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE FAILURE RESULTS IN ONLY 3 POINTS OF RETENTION FOR THE SEAT AND THE DRIVER CAN POSSIBLY LOSE CONTROL DUE TO IMPROPER RESTRAINT IN THE SEAT. I CAN SUPPLY PICTURES OF THE NEW DESIGN AND DEFECTIVE DESIGN IF YOU NEED THEM. OBVIOUSLY THE WELDS CONNECTING THE SEAT TO THE SEAT TRACK, AND THE SUBSEQUENT BREAKING OF THOSE WELDS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT CAUSES HUGE SAFETY RISKS FOR ALL DRIVERS OF MAZDA3S. WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP SIGN I HIT A SMALL POT HOLE AND SUDDENLY MY SEAT FLEW BACK. THE SEAT BROKE COMPLETELY FREE FROM THE MOUNTING BRACKETS AT THE TWO FROM MOUNTING POINTS. UPON INSPECTION THE WELDS ON THE MOUNTING BRACKET SNAPPED CLEAN OFF. DUE TO THE SUDDEN RECLINING MOTION MY NECK WAS EXTREMELY SORE FROM THE SUDDEN AND ABRUPT REARWARD RECLINING MOTION THIS CAUSED. IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY TO A PERSON WHO IS SHORTER THEN MYSELF, LOSS OF THE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE IS VERY POSSIBLE. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO REACH MY DESTINATION I NOTIFIED MAZDA WHO CLAIMS THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A PROBLEM. UPON FURTHER SEARCHING THE INTERNET I FOUND MANY OTHER MAZDA 3 OWNERS ARE HAVING THE VERY SAME ISSUES. I PURCHASED THE CAR BRAND NEW IN JULY OF 2009 AND IT HAS BEEN MAINTAINED. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY OTHER ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. *TR

THE VEHICLE INVOLVED IS A 2010 MAZDA MAZDA3. I SAT IN THE FRONT DRIVERS SEAT AND FELT THE DRIVERS SEAT SHIFT BACKWARDS. FROM THAT POINT ON THE SEAT WAS UNSTEADY AND ROCKED FORWARD AND BACKWARD DEPENDING ON WHICH I WAS DOING, ACCELERATING OR BREAKING. UPON EXAMINATION, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE WELD ON THE SEAT BRACKET HAD BROKEN. IN MY OPINION, THIS IS A VERY UNUSUAL BREAK AND COULD BE VERY HAZARDOUS IF IT HAPPENS UPON BRAKING. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MAZDA MAZDA3. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE PLASTIC HEIGHT ADJUSTER FOR THE SEAT BROKE, CAUSING THE SEAT TO MOVE WHENEVER THE CONTACT COMPLETED A TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE HEIGHT ADJUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,000.

FROM THE START MY DRIVERS SEAT WAS LOOSE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER AND EACH TIME THE PROBLEM WAS NOT SOLVED, THE REPLACED THE TRACK ASSEMBLY, TIGHTENED THINGS UP AND AFTER A FEW HUNDRED MILES THE PROBLEM RETURNED. *TT ON THE DAY OF MY ACCIDENT, I WAS STOPPED AT LIGHT AND WAS THE CAR BEHIND ME. A DIFFERENT CAR SMASHED THROUGH THE CAR BEHIND ME CAUSING THAT VEHICLE TO HIT ME FROM BEHIND AND FORCING ME INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AND NO ONE WAS HURT. AFTER THE INCIDENT, I GOT BACK INTO MY CAR AND THE SEAT ROCKED AS IF IT WAS A ROCKING CHAIR. DRIVING THE CAR HOME, THE SEAT ROCKED TO EVERY BUMP IN THE ROAD. I HAVE REASON TO BELIEVE IF I WAS IMPACTED WITH HIGHER FORCE THE SEAT WOULD HAVE CAME LOOSE FROM THE BASE.

I OWN A 2010 MAZDA3. A FEW WEEKS AGO WHILE DRIVING MY FRONT SEAT MADE A POPPING SOUND AND BEGAN ROCKING BACK AND FORTH CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR MOMENTARILY. I TOOK IT INTO THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP IN ALEXANDRIA VIRGINIA (BROWNS MAZDA ON ROUTE 1) AND ASKED THEM TO LOOK AT IT. THEY DETERMINED THAT WELDING ON MY SEAT BOTTOM HAD COME UNDONE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MY CAR'S WARRANTY IS FOR 3 YEARS/36 THOUSAND MILES AND AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT MY CAR HAD 45 THOUSAND MILES. MAZDA DECLINED TO FIX THE SEAT AND STATED THAT I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. MY CONTENTION IS THAT THE DRIVERS SEAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND IF INVOLVED IN A COLLISION THE SEAT MAY DISLODGE AND CAUSE ME MORE BODILY INJURY THAN IF THE SEAT WERE PROPERLY ANCHORED. I HAVE CONTACTED MAZDA'S CUSTOMER CARE LINE AND ALSO E-MAILED THEM AND ON BOTH OCCASIONS THEY HAVE IMMEDIATELY DISMISSED MY CLAIM STATING THAT MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE REPAIRS ARE MY RESPONSIBILITY. THE DRIVERS SEAT OF A VEHICLE IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE SAFETY IN THE CAR AND DUE TO A MANUFACTURER ERROR MY SEAT IS NOW LOOSE AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
