The passenger crash pad has deteriorated and become sticky and cracked. This may affect deployment of airbag and perhaps allow outside environmental elements to affect the airbag. The takata fiasco being an example of environmental factors affecting airbag safety.

The contact owns a 2009 Mazda Mazda6. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V594000 (Air Bags) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 165,000.

My car had a air bag recal and a subframe and other misc recalls so I contacted the dealership near me which was In Springfield Mo and set a apt and had it replaced then got a call the next day saying they wuld meet me half way with a loaner car which was in Mansfield mo for the subframe replacement and they have had it for over a month and they called and told me it was ready for pick up 6/21/21 and I drove up there Wed to pick it up and it wuldnt start wuldnt do nothing dead battery. Dealership then hooked up a jump box the gauges started jumping all back and fourth like something was shorted or a short some were got it started and the min the jump box turned off the it killed all power the car shut completly off to nothing. So they gave me the loner vehical back and they drove me my car to west plains mo and they took the loner vehical and I got in my car and the air bag light is flashing very fast constly the steering is super tight and the brakes feel weird the passenger side is missing a piece in the dash only lights that was on my car when they picked it up was the tire sensor light and the check engine light got pics to prove and show everything.. I’m driving it back to dealership to see if they can fix or make it right and give me the loner vehical back till they get my car back to the condition it was in when they picked it up for a recall repair..

MAZDA CLAIMS THAT RECALL ENDED IN MARCH OF 2019 BUT I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED BY MAZDA OF THIS RECALL THEREFORE I FEEL IT SHOULD BE EXTENDED FOR MY SAFETY. I BOUGHT A USED CAR FROM A SMALL DEALERSHIP, THEY SOLD ME THE CAR WITHOUT A DASH HARNESS, ALL THE WIRING THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTER IN MY CAR IS NOT THERE, SO I CAN'T DO SMOG CHECK. THE MECHANIC COULD NOT CHECK WHY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON BECAUSE THE COMPUTER IN MY CAR WAS NOT COMMUNICATING WITH THE TOOL. SOLD ME THE CAR WITH AIRBAGS NOT WORKING. LIED ABOUT HAVING IT ALL CHECKED OUT. AND I STILL HAVEN'T RECEIVED MY TITLE, REGISTRATION, AND PLATES TO MY CAR.

TAKATA RECALL-I GOT A RECALL MESSAGE IN THE MAIL. I WENT TO DEALER-MAINTENANCE AND THEY SAID THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM. I HAVE A COPY OF THE REPORT AT HOME. I HAD IT ( SUPPOSEDLY) FIXED AND THEN I GOT A NOTICE FROM MAZDA CORPORATE THAT IT STILL WAS NOT FIXED. I HAVE AN INTERMITTENT STEADY AIRBAG ALARM. THEY SAID THEY FIXED IT 8/10/17. I REPORTED TO THE DEALER THAT I GOT A NOTICE IT HAD NOT BEEN FIXED YET. THEY SAID THEY DID FIX IT AND THE NOTICE WAS ABOUT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG AND IT WAS A NEW AIRBAG RECALL. I ASKED WHEN THEY COULD FIX IT AND THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD BE A WHILE IN ORDER TO GET THE PARTS. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE OR NOT. MY SAFETY AND MY PASSENGERS ARE AT RISK. I DRIVE PEOPLE IN MY CAR. NOW MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND DOESN'T SHUT OFF. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY REPLACED THE PARTS THAT THEY RECALLED BUT NOW I CHECKED ONLINE IT SAYS IT WASN' AND AIRBAG LIGHT TURNED ON. NOW I KNOW THAT THEY DIDN'T DO WHAT I WAS TOLD WAS DONE.

NOW WE CAN NOT HAVE ANYONE USE THAT SEAT AND I SURE DON'T WANT MY GRANDSON TO BE IN A CAR SEAT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BACK SEAT FOR FEAR THAT HE COULD BE INJURED! TAKATA INFLATORS: I RECEIVED SEVERAL RECALL NOTICES (E.G. 16V-594, 13V425000, 11V134000, 09V043000) REGARDING MY 2009 MAZDA6 ([XXX]) AND TRACY MAZDA CONDUCTED VARIOUS REPAIRS. DURING EACH REPAIR, I MENTIONED THE AIRBAG INFLATOR ALERT (SEE ATTACHMENT). AFTER SERVICE OR REPAIR WAS CONDUCTED, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS RESET OR CLEARED BY THE MECHANIC. FOR A PERIOD OF ONE WEEK OF COMMUTING (HOME TO WORK OR VICE VERSA), THE INFLATOR INDICATOR DISAPPEARED. THEN IT RETURNED, DURING SHORT WARM UP, AFTER DRIVING A SHORT DISTANCE, INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAYS/FREEWAYS, ETC. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE FOLLOWING THE LAST RECALL/SERVICE-REPAIR PER RECEIPTS NOTATION, I WAS INFORMED THAT I HAVE TO PAY $85 FOR DIAGNOSIS FEE BECAUSE THE AIR INFLATOR INDICATOR IS NOT A PART OF THE FOREGOING PROBLEM. ON AUGUST 1, I LEFT A VOICE MAIL WITH A SERVICE TECH ASKING IF THE PARTS WERE IN. I NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE. IN MID-AUGUSTT, I WENT TO THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN PERSON. I WAS TOLD THE PARTS WOULD ARRIVE THE NEXT DAY AND THAT A SERVICE TECH WOULD CALL ME THE NEXT DAY. I NEVER RECEIVED A CALL. THE RECALL WORK REMAINS UNDONE.

TAKATA RECALL THERE HAVE BEEN TWO RECALLS IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS ON THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG OF MY CAR. THEY "FIXED" BOTH PROBLEMS BUT ARE STILL TELLING ME MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG WON'T WORK IN AN ACCIDENT WITHOUT ME PAYING $500 FOR THEM TO REPLACE A THIRD PART OF THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. IT IS CLEAR TO ME THIS ENTIRE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG IS FAULTY AND IF THEY ARE MESSING WITH THE LIVES OF THEIR CONSUMERS BY EXTORTING SAFETY FOR MONEY WHEN THEY KNOW THE FLAW IS IN THEIR OWN INSTALLATION/PARTS THEY ARE AN UNETHICAL BRAND. IT SEEMS MORE LIKELY THAT THEY ARE INSISTING ON THIS PURCHASE IN EXCHANGE FOR SAFETY SO THEY CAN MAKE BACK SOME OF THE MONEY THAT THE PREVIOUS RECALLS HAVE COST THEM. EITHER WAY, THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE WHATEVER ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS MIGHT BE DAMAGED DUE TO MAZDA. IT IS NOT FEASIBLE THAT THREE COMPONENTS OF MY PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG HAVE GONE WRONG IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS BUT THE ONLY TWO UNDER RECALL WERE NOT THE ISSUE. THEY ARE TELLING ME THE CURRENT ISSUE REQUIRES AN REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE AIR BAG MODULE.

I WAS WORKING WITH DGDG AUTO GROUP, WHO OWN BOTH CAPITOL MAZDA AND STEVEN'S CREEK MAZDA IN SAN JOSE, CA. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS RESOLVED SINCE I RECEIVED THE FIRST RECALL IN 2016. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT PARTS WERE NOT IN STOCK, THAT I HAD TO WAIT FOR THE INDICATOR LIGHT TO CHANGE FROM FLASHING TO SOLID OR VICE VERSA. EVEN THE EXPERIENCE THE LAST TWO DAYS HAS BE SUBSTANDARD, BUT I WON'T LIST THE REASONS FOR THAT. I JUST WANTED TO RECORD MY EXTREME FRUSTRATION GETTING THIS GLARING SAFETY ISSUE RESOLVED. NHTSA RECALL #:16V-594, MANUF RECALL #: 9816H THE SOPHISTICATED AIR BAG SENSOR (SAS) UNIT FAILURE. THE WARNING LIGHT HAS BEEN ILLUMINATED SINCE MID YEAR OF 2016. IT WAS CONFIRMED BY MAZDA DEALERSHIP 03/08/2017 THAT IT WAS ON DUE TO RESULT OF SAS UNIT FAILURE (WHEN THEY REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAG RECALL). I CALLED MAZDA'S CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY GAVE ME THE RUN AROUND. TOLD ME TO GET A DIAGNOSTIC DONE, CALL THEM BACK AFTER THAT AND "MAYBE" THEY WILL COVER IT. WELL I LEFT NUMEROUS MESSAGES, THEY NEVER CALLED ME BACK. WHAT MAKES ME SCARED IS THAT THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP WHO DID THE DIAGNOSTIC REFUSED TO EXPLAIN WHAT EXACTLY IS GOING ON. THEIR DESCRIPTION OF SERVICE: "TECHNICIAN PERFORMED DIAGNOSTICS USING MAZDA SCAN TOOL. FOUND CODE B1127 - PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG MODULE HIGH RESISTANCE. CHECKED FOR TSB S, FOUND TSB 08-001/09 - COATING ON AIRBAG TERMINALS ALLOWING OXIDATION-- REPLACE MODULE. INSTALLED GS3L-57-KA0B: MODULE (R) A/B SIDE, REPLACED MODULE PER TSBP 08-001/09. CLEARED CODE FROM PCM." THIS TIME IT COST ME $453.87!!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL ON THIS YET!!! ALSO IN JAN. 2015, (92,000 MILES) I WALKED OUT TO MY CAR ONE DAY, DURING THE WINTER, TO FIND MY PASSENGER SIDE DASHBOARD WITH A HUGE CRACK IN IT! IT IS ALSO VERY STICKY FEELING. I HAVEN'T EVEN LOOKED INTO HOW MUCH IT'S GOING TO COST TO REPAIR THIS. AFTER DOING SOME MORE RESEARCH I FOUND OUT THAT ALLOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THEIR DASHBOARD AND I THINK MAZDA NEEDS TO GET INVOLVED AND FIX THIS.

MY WIFE COMPLAINED TO ME TODAY WHILE DRIVING THE MAZDA6 THERE WAS A GLARE COMING FROM THE DASH AREA RIGHT OVER THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. SHE TOUCHED IT AND IT WAS A SHINY STICKY DETERIORATION OF THE DASH ITSELF. YOU CANNOT TOUCH OR RUB OUT AS IT STICKS AND LEAVES A BLACK, STICKY GLUE ON YOUR FINGERS. LOOKED IT UP AND THERE ARE A GREAT MANY MAZDA OWNERS THAT SEEM TO SUFFER FROM THIS VERY SAME ISSUE...AND NOBODY IS GETTING SATISFACTION FROM MAZDA. 44K AND THE DASH IS MELTING?????? *TR

THE AIRBAG INDICATOR (MALFUNCTION) LIGHT TURNS ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY FOR OVER A YEAR. MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY SO THE DEALER WILL NOT SERVICE IT WITHOUT AN EXPENSIVE FEE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MAZDA 6 . THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED SO THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A HIGH RESISTANCE ON THE WIRE GOING TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG. THE DEALER CLEANED THE CONNECTOR AS A REMEDY HOWEVER, THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ONCE AGAIN AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE AIRBAG . THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED CORRECTLY OR FURTHER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000 AND UPDATED 05/08/12*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER REPLACED THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG. THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN, THEN THEY REPLACED THE SRS CONTRO UNTIL. THE CONSUMER STATED THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED TWO MORE TIMES.

I WAS NOT IN ANY SORT OF ACCIDENT, NOR WHERE THERE ANY CARS AROUND ME. I SIMPLY PULLED INTO THE WALGREEN'S TO STOP AND VERIFIED I HAD NOT LEFT SOMETHING IMPORTANT THAT I NEEDED AT HOME.
