I was driving in a parking lot and suddenly my air bag deployed for no reason I did not hit anyone or get hit for the airbag to deploy. Suffered some bruising on my right forearm and in my left ear I still hear ringing from the airbag deploying.
The contact owns a 2013 Mercedes-Benz C250. The contact stated that while driving 10 MPH, the front passenger's side air bag unexpectedly deployed with no impact on the vehicle. The air bag warning light was illuminated. The contact parked and then restarted the vehicle before driving to the residence. The contact sustained bruises and scratches on his forearm, but medical attention was not received. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

The glue that suppose to make sure my windshield is secure is no longer secure. The windshield moves as I am driving. It’s only on the corner of the driver side. Everything else is secured. Also my airbags (passenger and driver). There is a recall but its not showing when I run the Vin # .
"Front Right Malfunction Service Required." Recently purchased vehicle, dealer performed recalibration before sale (error did not display during test drive or before purchase). 30 minutes after purchase notification popped up, dealer agreed to pay for repair. Took to non-purchasing Mercedes dealer, they were able to reproduce and quoted for $4179. Repair included seat replacement and height adjustment replacement. Purchasing dealer then refused repair The error pops up randomly, with person in passenger seat and without. Afraid to have anyone ride as a passenger, if a wreck occurs the airbag could not deploy.
Per the attached Repair Order 948486 dated May 13, 2020, when I brought in the car to Fletcher Jones in Newport Beach for the airbag recall, I thought both of the Takata airbags were replaced and not just the passenger airbag. In fact, Repair Bill Job A states: “Replace Driver and Front Passenger Airbag”. “No Charge” I did not notice that they only replaced the passenger airbag. I would not have known the driver’s side was not replaced if the airbag warning light did not come on. Please direct Fletcher Jones to finish this repair properly. Per the enclosed photos, my dash display now has an image of the airbag and it says “Front Left Malfunction Service Required”. I am very worried what will happen if we get into an accident. Per the highlighted text attached, on April 14, 2021, a driver reported: “Front drivers air bag malfunction light is illuminated and horn nor any controls on steering wheel work at all.” I checked the horn and the steering wheel controls on our C250 when I read this. I discovered they do not work on our car as well. This drivers report goes on to say: “…repairman states this is a common issue with this car. I believe this is a serious safety issue with this vehicle as the airbag malfunction can possibly cause serious injury to the driver and the horns inability to function prevents the driver from alerting any other drivers if they stray from lane, are backing out of parking space, or distracted at a red traffic signal.” On Repair Order 948486 Fletcher Jones tried to reset the headrest which popped open when I sat in the car and put my head against it to rest. It was not due to any accident, the car was stationary. Fletcher Jones could not reset the headrest and asked for $1200 for a new one. Clearly this is also a defect because it did not occur during an accident and the headrest should not have separated. An attached article shows the Takata airbag problems still exist as ticking time bombs. MB CEO did not reply to my letter.

2013 MERCEDES BENZ C250. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO TAKTA AIRBAG SAFETY RECALL. THE CONSUMER STATED IT WAS DIFFICULT GETTING IN CONTACT WITH THE DEALER IN ORDER TO HAVE THE RECALL REPAIR COMPLETED. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED OR, PICKED UP BY THE DEALER, DUE TO HAVING MEDICAL ISSUES.

As I sat in my vehicle waiting for the traffic light. I felt a sudden hit on my head. At that moment I was confused, and thought someone had rear ended me. So like anybody would, I pulled over only to find out that the headrest on my 2013 Mercedes Benz C250 had came apart. It seems like the plastic inside tore apart from the springs causing pressure for it to deploy.

TOOK VEHICLE TO MERCEDES OF PALM BEACH DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THEIR WERE NO OPEN RECALLS ON THIS MODEL. I MENTIONED CAMPAIGN 2017120024 (ELEC) CAMPAIGN DESC. 1709P46C62 (ELEC) AND THEY STATE NO OPEN RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE. TOOK VEHICLE TO REPUTABLE ESTABLISHED MERCEDES REPAIR SHOP AND THEY DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE AS "NO COMMUNICATION WITH STEERING CONTROL MODULE" REPAIRMAN STATES THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS CAR. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE AS THE AIRBAG MALFUNCTION CAN POSSIBLY CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY TO THE DRIVER AND THE HORNS INABILITY TO FUNCTION PREVENTS THE DRIVER FROM ALERTING ANY OTHER DRIVERS IF THEY STRAY FROM LANE, ARE BACKING OUT OF PARKING SPACE, OR DISTRACTED AT A RED TRAFFIC SIGNAL.

THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW FROM HAWAII AND SHIPPED TO GUAM. THE DEALER IS REQUESTING US TO SHIP BACK THE VEHICLE TO FIX THESE RECALLS. WHICH WILL COST ME ABOUT 10,000.00 FOR SHIPPING. HOW DO I GO ABOUT THIS.
AIRBAG WAS DEPLOYED ONCE THEY CAR WAS TURN ON, AS I SHIFTED TO REVERSE TO BACK AWAY FROM A PARKING SPOT, AIRBAG DEPLOYED. NO IMPACT, NO COLLISION, NO POT HOLES. VEHICLE WAS ABOUT TONREVERSE. AIRBAG STRUCK PRIMARILY IN THE CHEST, NECK, AND THROAT. WHIPLASH EFFECT HAS ALSO CAUSE LOWER BACK PAIN.

I HAVE VISITED THE DEALER, NOW OWNED BY AUTO NATION, MULTIPLE TIMES ONLY TO BE TOLD PARTS WERE (STILL) NOT IN STOCK. I SUBSEQUENTLY CORRESPONDED WITH THE CEO AG DAIMLER, STUTTGART, GERMANY. HIS FIRST RESPONSE TO ME WAS IT'S NOT DAIMLER AG'S PROBLEM RATHER MERCEDES BENZ USA. IN MY SECOND LETTER TO AG DAIMLER I REITERATED MY PLEA THAT MY CARS VALUE CONTINUES TO DECLINE & I CAN NOT TRADE WITH AN OPEN RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. RECALL ON MY CAR IS STILL WAITING TO BE FIXED. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW IN APRIL 2013. MILEAGE TO DATE IS ONLY 22, 271 MILES. I AM NOW BACK IN CANADA BUT COULD NOT BRING MY CAR TO CANADA BECAUSE THERE IS AN OUTSTANDING RECALL. IN MAY 2018, THE RECALL ON STEERING WAS FIXED. BECAUSE I DO NOT LIVE IN CALIFORNIA ANYMORE, IT IS IN A GARAGE WASTING AWAY. I ONLY USSE THE CAR IN MY YEARLY VISITS TO CHECK ON IT. LAST 2018, I USED THE CAR FOR LESS THAN 1,000 MILES. IN 2019, I HAVE NOT USED THE CAR. LAST FEB 2020, I REQUESTED A FRIEND TO HAVE MY CAR CHECKED AT AN MB DEALERSHIP (FLETCHER JONES IN FREMONT, CA). THEY REPLACED THE WHOLE STEERING MECHANISM BECAUSE IT WAS LEAKING OIL PROFUSELY. I COMPLAINED THAT SINCE THE RECALL ON THE STEERING WAS ONLY FIXED IN MAY 2018 AND USED THE CAR LESS THAN 1,000 MILES, HOW CAN THE STEERING MECHANISM DAMAGED AS SUCH. ALSO, ALTHOUGH THE CAR IS ALMOST 7 YEARS OLD, THE TOTAL MILEAGE ON THE CAR IS ONLY 22. 291 MILES. IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THERE IS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT IN THIS PART? ON ACCOUNT OF THE FRON PASSENGER AIRBAG RECALL NOT YET BEING FIXED, I LEFT MY CAR IN CALIFORNIA. IT WAS SCHEDULED TO BE FIXED IN 2019 BUT WAS MOVED TO APRIL 2020. I HAVE WASTED SO MUCH MONEY IN THIS CAR BUT AM NOT ENJOYING OR BENEFITING FROM IT. ON JULY 3, 2019 I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE DEALERSHIP STATING THE TECHNICIAN HAD INSPECTED IT AND CHECKED THE SPRINGS. THAT THEY TIGHTEN IT BACK UP AND IT LOOK OK AND I NEED TO WAIT UNTIL I RECEIVE MY SECOND LETTER FROM MERCEDES BEFORE THEY CAN REPLACED THE AIRBAG THAT I NEED TO COME IN AND PICK UP THE CAR THAT IT WAS READY. THE AIRBAG WAS NOT REPLACED. WHEN WILL I RECEIVE A SECOND LETTER TO REPLACE THE TAKATA RECALL AIRBAG?

MERCEDES BENZ HAS THEIR NOTIFICATION OF THIS RECALL, ON THEIR OWN MBUSA WEBSITE AS JAN 10, 2016 (NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 18V043). MBZ HAS STATED THE STATUS OF THIS RECALL AS "RECALL INCOMPLETE. REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE." SINCE A VERY LONG TIME, WITH NO APPARENT CHANGES OR UPDATES. IT IS BECOMING CLEAR THAT MBZ HAS NO INTENTION OF FULFILLING THIS RECALL, AND APPARENTLY QUITE CONTENT TO LEAVE THE PASSENGERS AND DRIVERS OF THEIR VEHICLES IN DANGER OF INJURY, MAIMING, AND/OR DEATH FROM A REPAIRABLE PROBLEM THAT IS WELL KNOWN FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW.

THE LETTER WENT ON TO SAY THAT PARTS WERE NOT YET AVAILABLE BUT I WOULD BE NOTIFIED WHEN THEY BECAME AVAILABLE IN 2018. SOME TIME LATER, THE MBUSA (MBUSA.COM) WEBSITE PUBLISHED A REPAIR SCHEDULE INDICATING THAT PARTS FOR MY CAR WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE IN 2018 BUT WOULD BE IN EARLY 2019. NOW THE MBUSA WEBSITE SAYS THAT THE EXPECTED TIME FOR REPAIR PARTS IS APRIL 2020. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE BECAUSE THE CAR WILL BE OVER SEVEN YEARS OLD AT THAT POINT. THAT IS LESS THAN THE AMOUNT OF TIME THAT IT TOOK FOR THE FIRST FAULTY AIRBAGS TO BEGIN KILLING AND MAIMING DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS. MY CAR IS IN PRIORITY GROUP 9. THE NHTSA DOCUMENTATION SHOWS THAT MANUFACTURERS SHOULD HAVE ACQUIRED SUFFICIENT PARTS FOR REPAIR OF PG 9 CARS BY JUNE OF 2018, BUT IN A LETTER OWNERS, THE CEO OF MERCEDES SAYS THAT THIS IS OUT OF HIS CONTROL. IT IS MY OPINION THAT MERCEDES BENZ IS OUT OF COMPLIANCE WITH 49 USC 301 AND THAT ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN TO CAUSE THEM TO FOLLOW THROUGH WITH THE REQUIRED REPAIRS IN A TIMELY MANNER.

I WENT TO ARROWHEAD MB IN PEORIA WHO WANTED TO CHARGE ME $175 TO DIAGNOSE AND $400 TO PULL THE BUMPER SAYING THEY WERE SURE THAT IT WASN'T THE RECALL CAUSING THE SRS LIGHT TO COME UP BUT NEEDED TO PULL THE BUMPER TO BE SURE. I HAD ANOTHER MECHANIC WITH A COMPUTER PLUG INTO THE MB AND COULD FIND NO OTHER CAUSE. I BELIEVE MB WAS TRYING TO ILLEGALLY RECOUP THEIR LABOR COST FOR FIXING A RECALL. I WOULD NOT ALLOW THEM TO CHARGE ME. MY HUSBAND WAS OUT OF STATE WORKING ON A TRIAL AND I WANTED FOR HIM TO COME HOME AND TEST HIS CAR WITH THE SAME RECALL HIS VIN IS [XXX] AND THE CAR REQUIRED REGULAR SERVICE AND MB TRIED TO UPCHARGE HIM $3500 FOR WORK THAT DIDN'T NEED TO BE DONE WE BELIEVE TO RECOUP THE LABOR IN FIXING A RECALL. WHEN I RETURNED HOME FROM OUT OF STATE WORK, SHE TOLD ME THE STORY OF HER ATTEMPT TO HAVE THE RECALL REPAIRED THE CRITERIA OF "CONCERN" WAS HAVING THE SRS LIGHT COME ON WHICH IT DID IN HER CAR. MY RECALL WAS REPAIRED.
