The contact owns a 2011 Mercedes-Benz GLK350. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, she heard an abnormal noise. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to park on the side of the road and saw the front driver’s side headrest air bag had deployed independently. The contact stated that there was no injury sustained. The contact stated the instrument panel displayed an error message of the driver’s and passenger’s side Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) had malfunctioned. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with the seat wiring harness had malfunctioned causing the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) to be illuminated. The contact was not aware of the repair needed on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

I HAVE HEARD NOTHING FROM THEM ABOUT THE DRIVER AIRBAG RECALL IN 18 MONTHS EVEN THOUGH THEY PROMISE TO FIX IT BY SEPTEMBER 2018. I OFTEN DRIVE TO FLORIDA STAYING THERE FOR A WEEK OR SO. ON MARCH 2018, ANOTHER NOTICE STATED IT'S DELAYED UNTIL JUNE 30, 2018. AS OF TODAY, STILL NO NOTIFICATIONS AS TO WHEN THE AIRBAGS WILL BE REPLACED. THIS VEHICLE IS A DAILY DRIVER. OCT 2018, I WENT TO MB OF ATHENS AND ASKED ABOUT THE TAKATA RECALL. THE SERVICE MGR SAID THEY WERE REPLACING AIRBAGS ON 2009 C-CLASS. MB HEADQUARTERS SAID THIS IS INCORRECT AND THAT MB VEHICLES DO NOT REQUIRE THE REPLACEMENT BECAUSE NO MB VEHICLES HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A TAKATA RELATED INCIDENT. A WSBTV INVESTIGATION REPORTED FROM TAKATA THAT HIGH HUMIDITY INCREASES THE LIKELIHOOD OF PREMATURE RUPTURES. THIS GLK350 WAS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED IN MIAMI AND RESOLD IN ATLANTA. MY GLK IS A DAILY DRIVER AND THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE FROM MB!! MB IS PLAYING RUSSIAN ROULETTE WITH OUR LIVES. ON FEBRUARY 2, 2017, I SPOKE WITH TERESA AT MERCEDES (1-800-367-6372 EXT. 4601) AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE WAS IN PHASE 1 OF THE RECALL. THE DECEMBER 2017 LETTER STATED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS IN PRIORITY GROUP 4. A LETTER IN JANUARY 2018 STATED THE MY VEHICLE WAS IN GROUP 5. I BELIEVE THAT THE RECALL OF THE TAKATA AIRBAGS IN MY VEHICLE IS NOT BEING HANDLED PROPERLY AND THAT MY VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN CATEGORIZED PROPERLY. I KNEW ABOUT THE FIRST RECALL BUT NOT ABOUT THE SECOND RECALL ON THE VEHICLE UNTIL I GOT A LETTER FROM MBUSA TWO WEEKS AGO ADDRESSING THE ISSUE. WHEN I LOOK ON NHTSA THE RECALL DATES BACK TO MAY OF 2016 BUT MBUSA HAS NOTIFIED ME TWO WEEKS AGO. READING ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE THE MANUFACTURE HAS 60 DAYS TO PRODUCE A SOLUTION ON A RECALL BUT IT HAS BEEN WELL PAST THE 6 MONTHS FOR ONE RECALL, WELL PAST ONE YEAR FOR THE RECALL. I BOUGHT A CARE FROM MERCEDES BENZ IN 2015 IN POMPANO BEACH, FLORIDA. ON MAY 2016, I HAD RECEIVED A LETTER FROM MERCEDES BENZ STATING THAT THERE IS A DEFECT THAT HAS BEEN DETECTED WITH DRIVER-SIDE SEAT AIRBAGS. IN AUGUST 2016, I HAD RECEIVED ANOTHER LETTER STATING THAT THE PASSENGER 'SIDE AIRBAG INFLATOR HOUSING IN MY VEHICLE MAY RUPTURE DUE TO EXCESSIVE INTERNAL PRESSURE. SINCE I HAVE RECEIVED THOSE LETTERS, I HAVE BEEN REALLY TERRIFIED TO THE IDEA THAT I AND MY KIDS ARE AT RISK IF I HAVE AN ACCIDENT. I HAD BEEN INVOLVED IN A DEADLY ACCIDENT IN 2012; I AM ALIVE TODAY BECAUSE THE AIR BAG WAS WORKING PROPERLY. SINCE I HAVE RECEIVED THAT NOTICE, I HAVE TO LIMIT MY DRIVING. I HAVE GOT TO THE POINT NOW THAT I AM SO SCARED THAT I AM AFRAID OF DRIVING ON ANY HIGHWAYS AND EXPRESSWAYS WITH THE CAR. I HAVE A TREMENDOUS LEVEL OF ANXIETY AND I AM TERRIFIED BY THE IDEA THAT I AM DRIVING A CAR WITH AN AIR BAG DEFECT. I CALLED MERCEDES TWICE TO SEEK FOR OPTIONS THAT WOULD IF NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE BUT AT THE MINIMUM ALLEVIATE MY HARDSHIP, BUT THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING FOR ME. THEY SAID THAT THEY ARE WORKING ON RESOLVING THE ISSUE; I JUST HAVE TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE CAR. I HAVE OFFERED THEM TO; 1-GIVE ME A LOANER WHILE THEY ARE WORKING ON SOLVING THE ISSUE, AND I WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE MY REGULAR MONTHLY PAYMENTS. 2-GIVE ME A REASONABLE DISCOUNT AMOUNT ON ANOTHER VEHICLE, SO I CAN TRADE MY VEHICLE FOR ANOTHER ONE WITHOUT THAT SAFETY ISSUE. THEY BLAME THE NHTSA FOR THE DELAY---READ THE FAQ ON THEIR WEBSITE. I AM COMPLAINING THAT WHY THE NHTSA IS NOT TAKING THIS MATTER SERIOUS ENOUGH AND WHY THEY DO NOT TELL MBUSA TO CHANGE MY AIRBAGS. SPOKE WITH DEALERSHIP, THEY SAY THAT THEY CAN'T GUARANTEE THAT BAGS WONT GO OFF BY THEMSELVES AND THAT THEY CANT DO ANYTHING UNTIL THEY RECEIVE PARTS. I AM NOW HEARING THAT BAGS CAN EXPLODE UNEXPECTEDLY THROWING METAL FRAGMENTS INTO YOUR FACE AND HEAD AND CAUSE DEATH. MERCEDES NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS ASAP, THIS IS A FAMILY VEHICLE.
