When driving the steering will feel loose and the car sway left and right but the steering wheel isn't moving. Feels like the front wheels are going to all of a sudden shoot left or right and loose control.. I had a 2001 crown Victoria and there was a recall on the steering shaft and I got that fixed. it was doing the exact thing my mercury is doing now.. and also my electrical is freaking out.. turn signals flash very fast here and there.. speedometer will freak out and then not work.... I'm mostly concerned about the steering because it happened in my crown victoria.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE DIGITAL SPEEDOMETER WOULD READ DISPLAY A HIGH NUMBER THEN WITHOUT WARNING DISPLAY "0", THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WERE TURNING OFF AND ON INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR THE SPEEDOMETER FAILURE, WHERE A DIAGNOSIS WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 209,000.

WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, MY LIGHTS TURNED OFF BY THEMSELVES ON A DARK RURAL ROAD. IF I HADN'T JAMMED ON THE BRAKES, I WOULD HAVE EATEN THE RAILING OR WORSE. TURNS OUT THE (LCM) LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE, IS DEFECTIVE. WHEN I LOOKED IT UP ONLINE, IT SEEMS THAT MANY CARS ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE, EVEN MY LOCAL POLICE DEPARTMENT. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. THE DEALER WANTED TO CHARGE $578 PLUS 2 HOURS LABOR FOR A PART THAT GOES UNDER THE DASH. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH AND THE HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE CONTACT DROVE TO A DEALER AND THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT A 25 AMP FUSE WAS IN PLACE OF A 20 AMP FUSE AND CAUSED THE HEADLIGHTS TO STOP WORKING. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUSE AND NO OTHER FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER EXPERIENCED ANY ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS AND HE DOES NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING IT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 149,000.

2001 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. FREQUENTLY A PLUME OF SMOKE COMES OUT THE LEFT SIDE OF THE STEERING POST. THERE IS ALSO A BURNING ODOR. IT ONLY LASTS FOR A SECOND. THERE IS NO EQUIPMENT FAILURE SO FAR. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO TWO DIFFERENT FORD DEALERS AND THEY TELL ME THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON, DON"T WORRY ABOUT IT. I HAVE WRITTEN TO FORD CORP. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THIS MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS LS HAS HAD 4 FAILURES OF COIL PACKS. THESE CAN CAUSE SERVIOUS DAMAGE TO AUTO BY PUTING THE AUTO OUT OF BALANCE OR STRANDING YOU ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS AUTO HAS HAD SEVERAL FAILURES THAT RESULTED IN COSTLY REPAIRS, AND NO RECALL EXISTED WHEN IN FACT THIS IS A VERY VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON ALL MARQUES. RESEARCH SAYS THAT ALL FORDS MADE IN CANADA HAVE SERIOUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS DUE TO INFERIOR PARTS WHICH I PRESUME ARE IMPORTED. I DO HAVE OLD PARTS FOR YOUR INSPECTION FROM ONE OF THE REPLACED COILS. ONE DEALER IN DALLAS REFUSED TO PROVIDE OLD PARTS. I DO HAVE RECEIPTS FOR ALL REPAIRS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHIMMIED IN THE FRONT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THE MECHANIC RE-BALANCED AND ALIGNED THE TIRES. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED AFTER BEING TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THIS WAS AN ON GOING PROBLEM SINCE THE BEGINNING OF PURCHASE. THE CONSUMER HAD AN ADJUDICATION TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. *AK THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN BACK TO THE DEALER ON MANY OCCASIONS FOR THE SHIMMY IN THE FRONT. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES AND THE DRIVESHAFT ASSEMBLY. THE VEHICLE DEVELOPED AN OIL LEAK THAT WAS ALSO ONGOING, SO THE DEALER REPLACED THE OIL PAN/OIL PAN GASKET AND THE REAR MAIN CRANK SHAFT SEAL. THE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL. WHEN THE WEATHER WAS COLD, THE HOOD WOULD NOT POP OPEN AND THE RIGHT FRONT DOOR DID NOT CLOSE PROPERLY. *SCC *JB
