Additionally, the contact stated that the instrument panel lights, the brake lights, and the turn signal lights were inoperable. The contact who is a mechanic, had inspected the fuses, the fuse box, and other unknown parts, but found no failures. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V861000 (Exterior Lighting); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

I started Mercury with foot on break like normal. Shifted into reverse. Car accelerated backwards at full speed. Brakes did not stop car. Attempted to shift into neutral but went into drive instead. Car accelerated forward at full speed with my foot still on break. Car hit metal post and tree knocking them down and dragging the tree 50 to 60 feet before stopping with my foot still on the break. Car had stopped accelerating. I turned off the ignition. This unintended acceleration had happened before. Two different dealers attempted to fix the problem. Both of them thought they had been successful but it happened again. Previously, applying the brakes stopped the car, but not this time. Someone could have been injured severely or killed.

First issue: The headlights and door chime stay on after key is removed and lights are off causing battery to drain while vehicle is not being operated. Second issue: 50 amp ignition fuse blows randomly while car is in motion which causes a complete loss of power to the car including: braking power and power steering assist. The tilt steering being raised or lowered fixes the problem temporairly on occasion. A clicking sound from the lighting control module is heard when adjusting the tilt steering also

THEY TOLD ME THAT THE PARTS ARE STILL ON BACK ORDER AND THAT THEY'RE ARE 3800 PEOPLE WAITING ON THOSE PARTS. I'VE BEEN PULLED OVER NUMEROUS OF TIMES BECAUSE OF MY HANDS SLIPPING OFF OF THE HIGH BEAMS AND I'VE HAD 2 ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF MY HEADLIGHTS. WE TOOK IT BACK ON 1/22/2015 AND WAS TOLD THAT THE LIGHTING CONTROLS (THE SWITCH THAT TURNS THE LIGHT ON AUTO, OFF ETC) IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. IT SEEMS THEY ALLOW THESE PROBLEMS TO OCCUR LONG ENOUGH TO ALLOW IT TO EFFECT OTHER THINGS ON THE CAR THEN STATE THERE WAS ONLY ONE PROBLEM APPROVED WITHOUT THE OUT OF POCKET. I HAD RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD WEEKS EARLIER; FORD HAS INDEED CONFIRMED THIS PROBLEM IS DUE TO THEIR LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE, SO MUCH SO THAT FORD'S LETTER CLAIMS THAT THE COMPANY WILL COVER REPLACEMENT FOR AN ADDITIONAL 5 YEARS. MY CAR'S MODULE HAS NOW FAILED COMPLETELY. I AM UNSURE IN HOW MANY EARLIER INSTANCES, ESPECIALLY IN SEMI-LIGHTER ENVIRONMENTS WHERE IT WAS LESS PERCEPTIBLE TO ME, THIS INTERMITTENT HEADLIGHT FAILURE PUT BOTH MYSELF AND OTHER DRIVERS, PEDESTRIANS, AND BICYCLISTS AROUND ME IN REAL DANGER. THE FAILURE OF MY CAR'S MODULE HAS SINCE BEEN CONFIRMED BY MY LOCAL DEALER. IN ADDITION, I CONTACTED FORD DIRECTLY. HOWEVER, AFFECTED DRIVERS, AS WELL AS POTENTIAL FUTURE OWNERS, BOTH OF WHOM HAVE AND WILL POSE A DANGER TO OTHERS, HAVE NOT AND WILL NOT HAVE A REMEDY ANY TIME SOON, ACCORDING TO FORD, DESPITE THEIR LETTER. FORD DEALER AND REGIONAL MANAGERS SUGGEST THAT THE PART IS OUT OF STOCK INDEFINITELY. FUTURE DRIVERS WILL HAVE NO REMEDY TO THEIR CARS' UNSAFE CONDITIONS. AN ALLUSION HAS BEEN MADE TO SOME UNSANCTIONED, UNCOVERED, AND PRICEY, UNREIMBURSABLE FIX WITH NO GUARANTEE OF SUCCESS, HENCE TO GUARANTEE OF SAFETY EITHER. I HAVE TO BE TO WORK @ 3 IN THE MORNING SO ONE DAY I WAS HEADED TO WORK ON A DARK ROAD AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY LIGHT TURN OFF BY THEMSELVES. I PULLED OVER AND PLAYED WITH THE LIGHT SWITCH AND IT CAME BACK ON. THE NEXT DAY IT DID IT AGAIN, AND I REPEATED THE SAME STEPS. SO FOR THE THIRD DAY THEY DIDN'T COME ON AT ALL. I TOOK IT TO FORD THE SAME DAY AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE LCM, WHICH WOULD COST A ESTIMATED 750.00 DOLLARS TO REPLACE IT. I HAD TO HOLD THE BRIGHT LIGHTS TIL I SAVED ENOUGH MONEY TO GET IT REPLACED. MY OTHER COMPLAINT IS ABOUT THE A/C CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT, THIS IS ANOTHER MAJOR PROBLEM. ONE DAY ITS WAS WORKING FINE, THEN THE NEXT DAY IT WAS NOT BLOWING OUT THE PROPER VENTS , THEN EVENTUALLY IT STOP WORKING. I CAN FEEL A LITTLE AIR BLOWING OUT ONCE I HIT ABOUT 65 MPH ON THE FREEWAY. AGAIN I TOOK IT 2 FORD AND IT WOULD BE ANOTHER 650.00 TO REPLACE IT. I ASKED AROUND TOWN AND A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS. IF YOU CHECK EBAY, THEY DO HAVE SERVICES THAT REBUILD BOTH THE LCM AND THE CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT FOR ANYWHERE BETWEEN 75.00 AND 200.00 DOLLARS. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THERE WAS A STRONG BURNING ODOR INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED UNDERNEATH THE HOOD AND FLAMES EXCESSIVELY IGNITED FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THERE WERE TWO BYSTANDERS WHO EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE WITH BOTTLES OF WATER. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND A REPORT WAS FILED WITH NO PERSONAL INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE ALTERNATOR. THE BATTERY, ALTERNATOR AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,073.

2003 GRAND MARQUIS I AM EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT HEADLIGHT FAILURE WHILE DRIVING MY 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THIS IS COVERED BY NHTSA ACTION PE08-066 WHICH WAS RECENTLY CLOSED WITHOUT RESULTING IN A RECALL. I FEEL YOUR AUTOMOBILE HEADLIGHTS FAILING WHILE DRIVING IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THERE IS NO QUESTION THAT I AM GOING TO HAVE TO PAY $400-$800 TO HAVE THE CAR REPAIRED. LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED TO FIX A RELAY THAT IS WORTH ONLY ABOUT $25. AS A RETIREE ON FIXED INCOME, THIS IS A FINANCIAL HARDSHIP. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER AND WAS TOLD I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST SINCE THE VEHICLE IS BEYOND THE WARRANTY COVERAGE.
