The Lighting Control Module has failed and my brake lights and dash board lights turn off after couple minutes while driving with the lights on. I took my vehicle in to dealer already once for problem to be fixed a year ago. They did repair but now same problem is occurring again. I went back to dealer Sunrise Ford in Fontana and they said recall work is only warranty for 1 year or 12k miles. The work was done in December 2023. They want to charge me $230.00 for diagnostic. But issue is same problem as before. Recall number is 15S39. Driving without brake lights is dangerous and has limited my driving. I cannot go out at night. I do not have another vehicle. This affects my life. I've called other dealers and they refuse to do the work.

I received a recall on my car in 2019 to change the lighting control module as my headlights could go out without warning. Although I had not experienced this, I brought my vehicle to the local Ford dealer who changed the part. Over the pandemic and now since my wife and I are in declining health we have driven very little after dark. However, I recently had to go to the pharmacy at Walmart and returned home after dark but my headlights went out completely. Now I am having this problem and the local Ford dealer said there was no second recall so he wants to charge me between $500 and $600 to correct the problem. I think this is Ford's responsibility to correct. Please assist in making the manufacturer aware of this.

Almost had accidents because lights failed, headlights and taillights failed at night, including dash lights today, creating safety hazard. Seat tilt failed, and body mount frame bushing failed. Mirror tilt switch failed. Fuel filler neck leaks when filled. Very scary especially at night. Please recall and fix before we get hurt.

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD GO OUT AND STOP WORKING. THE ONLY WAY I COULD DRIVE AT NIGHT WAS TO PULL THE SWITCH TOWARDS ME AND KEEP THE BRIGHTS ON WHILE DRIVING. IF I LET GO THE LIGHTS WOULDN'T STAY ON AND I COULDN'T SEE THE ROAD. I TRIED TO USE THE SWITCH ON THE DASH TO TURN ON THE HEADLIGHTS BUT IT WOULD ONLY WORK FOR THE PANEL LIGHTS ON THE DASH BOARD. THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR IT WAS VERY SCARY AND WE WERE DRIVING ON TOADS WITH NO STREET LIGHTS LIGHTS. THIS OCCURRED ON WED, FEB. 20 2019. ONCE THIS HAPPENED I PULLED OVER PUT THE CAR IN PARK TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT. I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND TRIED TO TURN ON THE HEADLIGHTS BUT NOTHING WOULD COME ON SO I PULLED THE SWITCH TOWARDS ME AND KEEP IT LIKE THAT SO THE BRIGHT LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AND I COULD SEE THE ROAD TO DRIVE THIS FOR 30 MIN UNTIL WE GOT HOME.

COMING FROM A CONCERT WHICH THANKFULLY WAS VERY CLOSE TO HOME, THE HEADLIGHTS DID NOT TURN ON AND THERE WERE NO DASH LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN MOTION BUT AS THE CAR WAS STARTING TO MOVE, STILL NO LIGHTS. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE IN 2014(LCM #15S39) THAT WAS REPAIRED AND REIMBURSED BY OUR LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR 2003-2005 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS AND 2003-2005 CROWN VICTORIA. I HAVE SINCE SEEN COMPLAINTS COME UP AS OF JAN.2018 THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS AGAIN COME TO LIGHT. THIS IS A HORRENDOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND NOT AN INEXPENSIVE FIX. HOW MANY MORE TIMES WILL THIS KEEP HAPPENING? WE LOVE THIS CAR, HAVE HAD IT FOR 13 YEARS AND IT HAS LESS THAN 90000 MILES ON IT. RECALL 15S39: MY LIGHTS WERE WORKING JUST FINE BUT I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. WHEN I CALLED TO MAKE AN APPOINMENT I SAID I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH MY LIGH BUT THE LETTER SAID IT MIGHT OCCUR AT ANYTIME. I DRIVE APPROX. 35,000 MILES PER YEAR. MAY 17,2017 I MADE APPOINMENT.FOR JUNE12,2017. WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A NEW MODULE WAS INSTALLED. JUNE 14, 2017 MY LIGHTS SUDDENLY WENT OUT WHEN I WAS DRIVING. THEY SUDDENLY CAME BACK ON. LATER THAT EVENING THEY WOULD NOT COME ON AT ALL. (IT STAYS ON AUTOMATIC). I GOT THE MANUAL LIGHTS TO COME ON . NO BRIGHT LIGHT ONLY INTERMITTANT BRIGHTS. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK IT TO GEM CITY FORD. AFTER AN HOUR THEY SAID THEY WERE O.K. 10 P.M. THE LIGHTS WENT OUT AGAIN. I USED MANUAL. CALLED THEY SAID THEY WOULD CALL BACK.THEY DIDNOT WITH MORE THAN ONCALLS NEVER TO BE CALLED BACK. THEN I LEFT A NOTE I WOULD GET IT CHECKED WHILE OUT OF SATE. THEN I GOT A CALL REQUESTING THAT I BRING IT IN. I WAS LEAVINE THE STATE F OR A WEEK. CAME BACK TO TOWN THE NEXT WEEK TOLD THAT THE PATCH THAT WAS PUT IN WAS WORKING AND I COULD PURCHASE THE MODULE.THIS IS A DANGEROUS THING . THE FIX CAUSED A PROBLE THAT THE FIX WAS SUPPOSED TO DO. I WANT MY CAR BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS. WHEN DRIVING IT MAKES A POP THEN GOES OUT OR COMES ON. WHEN STARTING THEY MAY NOT COME ON AT ALL. I DON'T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN WHEN I'M GOING THROUGHT THE MOUNTAINS OF GEORGIA OR TENNESSE AT NIGHT. THIS SHOULD HAVE NOT BEEN PATCHED. IT'S LAZY . I LIVE IN A REMOTE PART OF HAWAII AND AM A PHYSICIAN WHO GETS CALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT FOR EMERGENCIES. I WAS DRIVING ON THE UPPER ROAD WITH SEVERAL DROP OFFS AND MY LIGHTS WENT OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. THE HIGH BEAMS DID NOT WORK EITHER, BUT I HAD TO HOLD DOWN THE LEVER FOR THE LIGHTS TO WORK. IT SEEMS THEY ALLOW THESE PROBLEMS TO OCCUR LONG ENOUGH TO ALLOW IT TO EFFECT OTHER THINGS ON THE CAR THEN STATE THERE WAS ONLY ONE PROBLEM APPROVED WITHOUT THE OUT OF POCKET. THE DEALER'S SUGGESTION FOR WORKAROUND IS TO USE THE "FLASH-TO-PASS" LEVER, WHICH MOMENTARILY TURNS ON HIGH BEAM LIGHTS. SINCE HE HAS GONE BACK HOME, I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS FOR MY MOTHER. I FOUND A CLOSED "SAFETY" ISSUE, NUMBER PE08066, WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT HE EXPERIENCED. ALTHOUGH YOU HAVE A VERY LOW NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS LISTED, CONSIDER THIS: MOST OF THESE CARS ARE PURCHASED BY OLDER PEOPLE, MANY MECHANICALLY INCAPABLE IN ADDITION TO BEING UNSAVVY WITH COMPUTERS AND THE INTERNET, AND TEND TO DRIVE IT LESS, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT, SO THE ISSUE WOULD NOT BE NOTICEABLE FOR QUITE SOME TIME. WELL, MY BROTHER TOOK IT IN FOR INSPECTION WITH THIS FAULTY MODULE, AND IT PASSED, SO THEN DO THEY NOT CONSIDER IT "FAILED"? MOTHER IS 91 YEARS OLD AND WOULD PROBABLY PANIC IF THE LIGHTS WENT OUT WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING IT. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, AND SHOULD BE RATED HIGHER TO GET THE WARRANTY WORK DONE!!! 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS..THIS IS A LOANER CAR WHILE MY F-150 WAS IN THE SHOP. I USED THE CAR FOR WORK THAT MORNING. LIGHTS WORKED FINE,BUT I NEEDED TO USE MY TRAILOR THE NEXT DAY SO MY WIFE WAS GOING TO USE THE CAR FOR WORK THE NEXT DAY SO I COULD USE OUR EXPLORER TO PULL THE TRAILOR. THE CAR NEEDED GAS AND IT WAS DARK OUT. WE WENT TO GO FOR GAS AND WHEN I STARTED IT THE PARKING LIGHTS WORKED BUT THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT. I PUSHED THE TURN SIGNAL LEVER FORWARD AND THE BRIGHTS DIDN'T EITHER. I CHECKED THE FUSES AND COULD NOT FIND ONE BAD. IT IS GOING BACK TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. MY OTHER COMPLAINT IS ABOUT THE A/C CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT, THIS IS ANOTHER MAJOR PROBLEM. I OWN A 2003 GRAND MARQUIS. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IN 2004 WITH 19,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE LOVED THIS CAR IT IS GREAT TO DRIVE. FACTS: I OWN A 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS THAT HAD TOTAL HEADLIGHT FAILURE WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH. ALTHOUGH I RAN OFF THE ROAD I WAS ABLE TO RECOVER WITH NO DAMAGE/INJURY/LOSS OF LIFE BECAUSE I WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE ROAD/THE CAR/AND SADLY, PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WITH TOTAL HEADLIGHT FAILURE IN A PREVIOUS VEHICLE (2001 DODGE DURANGO). ONCE I STOPPED I CHECKED ALL OBVIOUS THINGS FOR FAILURE (BATTERY/FUSES/ETC) BUT SOON REALIZED I HAD PARKING LIGHTS/TURN SIGNALS/SIDE MARKER LIGHTS/DASH LIGHTS/TAIL LIGHTS/AND EVEN BRAKE LIGHTS...EVERYTHING EXCEPT HEADLIGHTS. I TRIED THE HIGH-BEAM POSITION AND NO LUCK THERE EITHER - UNTIL I PULLED THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH TOWARD THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE "FLASH" THE HIGH-BEAM POSITION. I CONTINUED TO HOLD THE SWITCH IN THIS POSITION AND DRIVE WITH MY HIGH-BEAMS ON FOR THE FEW MILES I HAD LEFT TO MY DESTINATION. OTHER INTERNAL LIGHTS AND LIGHT SENSORS CONTINUED TO WORK NORMALLY. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING ON AN UNLIGHTED ROAD AT NIGHT, CREATING A DANGEROUS SITUATION, UNABLE TO SEE THE ROAD AHEAD OR OTHER CARS SEEING ME COMING. NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE08066 DESCRIBES A SIMILAR PROBLEMS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD IN THE LIGHT CONTROL MODULE (LCM), RESULTING IN SEVERAL THOUSAND WARRANTY CLAIMS. THAT WAS WEIRD TOO BECAUSE THE HIGH BEAMS WOULDN'T WORK WHEN I PUT THE LEVER IN THE ON POSITION, ONLY WHEN I PULLED BACK ON THE LEVER WHICH PUTS THE HIGH BEAMS ON FOR AS LONG AS YOU HOLD THE LEVER. THIS IS ON MY 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS GS. THE LIGHT PROCESSOR FAILED AND MY HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR 5 TO 10 MINUTES. THEY CONTINUE TO DO THIS UNTIL THE SYSTEM WOULD RESET, TAKING 15 TO 30 SECONDS. THIS ALSO HAPPEN ON MY 1997 FORD CROWN VIC FIRE CHIEFS CAR WHEN I HAD THAT VEHICLE. BOTH VEHICLES NEEDED TO HAVE THE LIGHT PROCESSOR REPLACED COSTING OVER $500.00.
