Vehicle notification stating Power Steering Assist Fault. Power steering locked up on highway going 60 mph while a child was in vehicle and vehicle was extremely hard to get off the highway. Parkway Ford of Pampa, Tx would not honor recall as VIN was not pulling up a recall. But a different auto mechanic repair shop did verify it was a recall.

Power steering stopped working completely.... was taking a turn and the steering became stiff and shook a little and went back to normal. Parked the car. started the car 2 hours later and steering completely stiff... no power steering. a quick google search of this common issue will tell you : Ford owners forum groups with the same issue, complain that Ford apparently only did reprogramming and did not replace the actual part causing the issue, when checking the codes, it did not show the failure yet, so they reprogrammed the unit to check the box Ford completed the safety recall. Recall 14V284000: Loss Of Power Steering Assist NHTSA Campaign ID Number: 14V284000 "STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM" (5/28/2014) Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner vehicles manufactured August 18, 2006, through September 11, 2010. The affected vehicles have a steering torque sensor that may not be able to properly detect driver steering input. As a result, the system could remove the Electric Power Steering (EPS) assist. Consequence: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash. Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the software for the power steering control module (PSCM) and the instrument cluster module, free of charge. This is an update to the complaint from June- Because I have to compensate manually for the electric power steering, I’ve aggravated upper back injuries and strained hip muscles I incurred from work. I have to attend physical therapy for those injuries now, but it’s useless if my only mode of transportation prolongs my recovery.—— My 2009 Mercury Mariner’s steering wheel started locking up 3 months ago, and it’s hard to get the steering wheel and the tires to agree on one direction. I looked up the make and model to see if there was a safety recall for it and there was, but my VIN wasn’t included in the recall campaign, even though it fits the criteria exactly. ///Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner vehicles manufactured August 18, 2006, through September 11, 2010. Months back there were times the power steering would go out, it would be for short amount of times and always came back. As of 40+ days ago the power steering has totally gone out and has not once come back. The dash says "power steering assist fault" The other issue is the wrench on the dash. It's normally after driving for quite some time. Even if there has been a break on the car while grocery shopping etc. when it comes on the car goes into limp mode. VERY DANGEROUS as we cannot tell when it'll happen. There has been multiple times the light turns green we take off, get to about 15-20MPH and she just stops. The dash reads to safetly pull over and I believe it says to shut off the car. This has been happening for 5+ months. There is also random over heating when that happens. This is based on how I remember it. Because of the safety issues I have not driven the vehicle. My husband drives it because he can handle no power steering better then me... Not that it's better for anyone to use..

My SUV was part of a recall due to the electronic power steering failing. My SUV was allegedly repaired by the cheapest of the three available options (computer reset or some such process). I bought my SUV in 2020. The electronic power steering slowly started going out intermittently and then more frequently over time, but is now completely out. The dealer tested my SUV and stated that the entire steering column needs to be replaced. They claim that the problem has nothing to do with the recall, but I don't believe them. My issue is the exact same issue that prompted the recall in the first place. I should not have to pay for a failed recall repair. I think it's possible that the original dealership faked the repair, or simply chose the cheapest (but not proper) option to save themselves time and money. My shoulder is now damaged due to driving without power steering for so long. I need an honest evaluation of my vehicle and an investigation into whether or not the original dealer performed the proper repair. I would assume that the issue wouldn't come back if it had been repaired properly the first time.

About 3 months ago, my power steering started to fail. After researching to find out the problem, we learned that my car does not have a power steering pump, as it is electronic. I learned that my car had a recall from Ford pertaining to the power steering failing. I called Ford and they told me that my car was part of the recall and was "fixed" in 2015. A month ago I took it to a Ford dealership to have them do a diagnostic on my car and they informed me that it was my power steering torque sensor, which I already knew this by researching the issue. The issue now lies in the fact that the part is on back order and there is no available date. I believe that Ford should have replaced the parts needed instead of doing a "bandaid fix" by doing a software update, which they knew would not be the fix to the problem. Ford got away with not fixing something that is very dangerous to those who drive the Mercury Mariners. Mine is an 2009 and it is now dangerous on the highways to drive. I would like to add that while driving my car now with this issue, my battery light comes on, which is also a known issue to Ford.

Driving and my steering totally quit...almost wrecked it was so hard to control. Had not had any previous issues prior to this. I had my vehicle towed to mechanic and code that came up says steering assist has failed and will need to replace whole steering column assembly. There was no warning light...nothing! Upon my research, I see this is a frequent problem and there was a recall (1 million vehicles) but only for certain models, and of course mine is not one, in fact I haven't read any reports where the steering column was replaced, only reprogrammed and then the problem comes back. My car was manufactured at the Kansas City plant, which I have seen complaints numerous times for this problem coming out of this facility. Mechanic contacted Ford to inquire about the part...was told it was a 6 month minimum time to get the parts!! 6 months...am I just SOL for 6 months since my car cannot be driven safely? I purchased a Ford because they were not part of the government buyout...big mistake. At this point, I cant have it repaired with no parts. They know this is an ongoing problem, yet refuse to do anything about it.

I have been intermittently losing power steering. The code is B1342. After researching, it looks like Ford is aware of this problem but is unwilling to fix the issue. This fix must be done at a dealership since it is a software issue and going to cost $2,000. Obviously losing power steering when going at fast speeds is incredibly dangerous for myself and others. There is no check engine light that comes on when the issue arises.

Electronic Power Steering System, which was part of a previous recall, and was allegedly fixed, but continues to experience the same loss of power steering. This is a continual problem, meaning that it is not a one time incident. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection at any time. When the power steering goes out while driving, the steering wheel jerks to one side, and feels like a lock-up. The vehicle is still drivable, but can be dangerous in a situation where attempting to avoid an obstacle, could result in an inability to do so, because the maneuvers are being executed for a vehicle with power steering, so when it goes out, those same corrections will not successfully avoid a collision. The dealership is aware of the problem. They did a system check and insist that the steering column needs to be replaced, and that it has nothing to do with the previous recall, but it is exactly the same problem involved with the recall, therefore I do not believe they are differing issues. I believe the initial recall repair was unsuccessful, or the wrong fix. There were three or four options for fixing the issue. There are no warning lights that come on prior to the power steering going out, but a click can be heard however, at the exact moment when the mechanism for the power steering goes out. The same click can be heard when the vehicle is started and the power steering does come on. It usually comes on when it is cold outside. It will then go out once the car gets warm. I bought the car in January of 2000, and I did not experience the issue for a few months. When it did start happening, it was only once in a while - maybe every few months. The problem started happening more frequently with time, with the current status being that the power steering is predominantly not working.

My wife was driving and the power steering failed. She could hardly steer to safety. Turned car off then steering was fine. The next day it happened again so we dropped it off to our mechanic. Today he called and said the entire steering column would have to be replaced. He informed us that there was a recall in 2016 for this problem with ford and mercury vehicles from 2006- 2011 however our vin was not included. This vehicle has been kept in top shape and only has 70,000 miles. I feel this is definetly a manufacturer defect. We are planning to make these repairs but feel this vehicle should have been included in the recall.

Why was Ford allowed to close out recall 14S05 ? My 2009 Mariner was not included in the recalled VINs - did Ford neglect to include Hybrid Mariners and Escapes that were built at the Kansas City Assembly plant between 2008 and 2011 ? I am looking at a $600 repair for a sensor that should never wear out - when nearly 3/4s of a million vehicles were recalled for this defective part.

Electronic power steering went out 2weeks after purchasing. Dealership said that it could be tork sensor. Had it tebooted 2 times and went back out each time. Recently had it tested again and repair man said that there was an active recall for it

I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN AND LIST ALL POWER STEERING. EVERYTHING ELSE SEEMS TO BE WORKING FINE BUT I'M UNABLE TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE AT ALL NOW. THE DASHBOARD SHOWS THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT WARNING INDICATOR I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THE SENSOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THERE ARE RECALLS FOR THIS FOR THE SAME YEAR VEHICLE BUT WHEN I RUN MY VIN NUMBER IT DOESN'T PROVIDE ME WITH ANY RECALLS FOR MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE SO THE MANUFACTURER REFUSES TO PAY FOR ANY OF THE REPAIRS. NOW I'M LEFT WITHOUT A VEHICLE AND MY VEHICLE IS HOW I MAKE MY MONEY TO PAY MY BILLS. THE COST TO REPAIR IS OUTRAGEOUS. I'M GLAD I WASN'T DRIVING ANY FASTER BECAUSE IT PROBABLY WOULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I PARKED AT THE NEXT STORE TO SHOP AND WHEN I RETURNED THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING UNTIL I RESTARTED THE MARINER. IT THEN WORKED FOR ABOUT A HALF HOUR ON THE DRIVE HOME AND CUT OUT ON THE HIGHWAY AND WOULD NOT COME BACK ON AT THAT POINT. THE NEXT DAY IT WAS FINE. ON OCTOBER 18, 2018 I RECEIVED THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE ERROR ON MY INSTRUMENT PANEL WHEN TURNING ON MY VEHICLE. I HAD DRIVEN IT EARLIER IN THE DAY WITHOUT ISSUE. PREVIOUSLY I HAD THE OCCASIONAL WARNING NOISE AND QUICK FLASH OF AN ERROR (TOO QUICK FOR ME TO READ ALL THE WAY) AND WOULD HAVE MOMENTARY DIFFICULTY TURNING. THIS ISSUE MAKES IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE. RESEARCH INDICATES THAT IT IS MOST LIKELY A MALFUNCTIONING TORQUE SENSOR. I REACHED OUT TO FORD AFTER LEARNING OF RECALLS FOR THE 2009 MODEL YEAR. I WAS INFORMED THAT MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. FORD WAS UNWILLING TO ASSIST WITH THE COST OF REPAIRS IN ANY WAY. THEIR SUGGESTION WAS TO KEEP THE RECEIPT ON THE SLIM CHANCE THAT THE RECALL WOULD BE EXPANDED. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. HAD I BEEN ON A HIGHWAY WHEN THIS OCCURRED IT COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL TO MYSELF OR OTHERS. THIS REPAIR WILL COST IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF $1000 OR MORE. I WILL NEED TO HAVE THE WORK DONE AT A DEALERSHIP TO ENSURE THE REPAIR IS DONE CORRECTLY AND THAT FORD WON'T GIVE ME REIMBURSEMENT ISSUES SHOULD THE RECALL BE EXPANDED. THIS OCCURRED LESS THAN A YEAR AFTER THE FUEL INLET VALVE FAILED ON THE VEHICLE, CAUSING IT TO SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING AND RENDERING IT UNABLE TO BE STARTED. THE REAR HATCH HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO BE OPENED FOR OVER THREE YEARS BECAUSE OF AN ISSUE WITH THE LATCH. I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM AND WELL. THERE WERE ISSUES WITH AIR CONDITIONING WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE (APRIL 2015). THE ISSUES WERE NOT APPARENT PREVIOUS TO PURCHASE BECAUSE OF THE WEATHER AT THE TIME. WITHIN A MONTH THE WEATHER WARMED UP. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO USE THE A/C IT WAS ONLY BLOWING HOT AIR. THE DEALERSHIP WAS WILLING TO FIX THE ISSUE FREE OF CHARGE BECAUSE OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES. HOWEVER, THE ISSUE IS OCCURRING AGAIN EVEN AFTER HAVING AN A/C RECHARGE PERFORMED.

THE RECALL STATES THERE ARE 3 FIXES AND FORD IS CHOOSING TO DO THE SOFTWARE UPDATE SO THEN THE SOFTWARE CAN'T COMMUNICATE WITH THE POWER STEERING SO IT IS FAILING. MY LOCAL DEALER TRIED TO CONTACT FORD TO HAVE WHAT THEY DID AMENDED SO THEY CAN FIX IT. THEY RAN ANOTHER TEST ON IT AND IT THREW ANOTHER POWER STEERING CODE. WENT TO LEAVE MY DEALER AND MY POWER STEERING WAS COMPLETELY OUT AT THAT POINT. FORD IS NOT DOING THE PROPER FIXES. OUR 2009 MERCURY MARINER SUDDENLY LOST ITS POWER STEERING THIS PAST WEEKEND. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALER IN 2014 DUE TO A POWER STEERING RECALL. THE VEHICLE RECEIVED A SOFTWARE UPDATE WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO OVERRIDE THE LOSS OF STEERING AND PROVIDE AN INDICATOR LIGHT TO SHOW THE SYSTEM HAD FAILED. THERE WAS NO SUCH WARNING AND THE SUDDEN CHANGEOVER TO MANUAL STEERING IS DANGEROUS. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN THE GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED. SHE ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE WHILE TRYING TO PULL INTO A SPACE. SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE AND CALLED ME TO HELP. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALER WITH A GREAT DEAL OF EFFORT. FORD'S RECALL AND SOFTWARE UPDATE WERE INSUFFICIENT TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEMS WITH THIS FAULTY SYSTEM. FORD KNOWS THE TORQUE SENSOR IN THE STEERING COLUMN IS PRONE TO FAILURE BUT OFFERS A RIDICULOUS SOFTWARE UPDATE WHICH SERVES NO PURPOSE OTHER THAN TO TELL YOU THERE IS A FAILURE. IN OUR CASE WE DID NOT EVEN RECEIVE THE WARNING LIGHT. THE DEALER QUOTED ME $1507.00 TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THE RECALL WAS CLOSED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAD THE SOFTWARE UPDATE, AND THERE WAS NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE. UNBELIEVABLE. PLEASE TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION REGARDING THIS IMPORTANT SAFETY ISSUE. IT SEEMS THIS ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM IS ALSO FAILING IN OTHER FORD MODELS. THANK YOU.

I REPORTED ALL THIS TO FORDS REP WHO BASICALLY DID NOT WANT TO HEAR IT. I ASKED TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR AND WAS TOLD WHY BOTHER WE ARE NOT GOING TO HELP YOU. A SUPERVISOR DID CALL BACK A DAY LATER BUT HAD THE SAME ATTITUDE THAT THE CUSTOMER IS NEVER RIGHT AND DID NOT CARE IF WE EVER BOUGHT A FORD PRODUCT AGAIN. JUST DO A GENERAL FORD SEARCH AND ITS NOT JUST MY MARINER BUT MANY DIFFERENT MODELS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAD MY CAR SERVICED FOR RECALL 14S05 IN SEPTEMBER 2014 IN WHICH THEY REPROGRAMMED THE POWER STEERING SENSOR AT CAPITAL CITY FORD. THIS RECALL REMEDY FAILED TO PREVENT THE ISSUE OF FAILURE IN MY VEHICLE. THE CLAIM NUMBER THROUGH FORD IS CAS-8977665-P8M0T0. THE TOTAL FOR THE REPAIRS IS $996.04.

I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP IN RESPONSE TO A RECALL NOTICE ABOUT THE POWER STEERING. I HAD NEVER BEFORE EXPERIENCED SYMPTOMS OF THE ISSUE. THE FOLLOWING DAY, I BEGAN HAVING INTERMITTENT ISSUES WITH THE POWER STEERING. I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY AGAIN SERVICED THE VEHICLE. A FEW WEEKS LATER I AGAIN BEGAN HAVING INTERMITTENT ISSUES WITH THE STEERING. IT TOOK 2 WEEKS TO GET INTO THE SERVICE AGAIN, AND NOW FORD TELLS ME I NEED A NEW STEERING COLUMN BUT THAT IT IS TOO LONG AFTER THE ORIGINAL SERVICE AND IS NOW CONSIDERED A NEW INCIDENT NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL, EVEN THOUGH OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED SIMILAR PROBLEMS CAUSED BY THE INITIAL "REPAIR." I HAD TO GET A FLAT BED TOW TRUCK TO TAKE THE CAR FROM THE GARAGE TO A FORD DEALERSHIP. FORD TOLD ME THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACE DUE TO FAULTY STEERING MODULE. IT COST ME $1,100.17 TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN. ON AUGUST 19, 2014 I BROUGHT THE CAR TO FORD TO BE SERVICED FOR RECALL 14S05. BECAUSE THIS RECALL WAS FOR POWER STEERING AND THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, I THOUGHT THE EXPENSE WOULD BE PART OF THE RECALL. I HAVE COME TO LEARN THE THE RECALL WAS TO UPDATE THE SOFTWARE ONLY. WHICH WAS DONE TO THIS CAR AND DIDN'T HELP. THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE SERIOUSNESS OF LOSING THE ABILITY TO STEER THE CAR DUE TO FAULTY MANUFACTURING AND THE COMPROMISED POSITION THAT IS PLACED ON THE DRIVER, OTHER CARS ON THE ROAD AND PEDESTRIANS. I RECEIVED THE RECALL IN OCTOBER BUT AT THIS TIME MY CAR WAS NOT ACTING UP AND I HAVE BUSY WORK SCHEDULE SO HAD NOT HAD IT LOOKED AT YET. BUT ON DECEMBER 29TH , 2014 I TOOK IT IN. THE MECHANIC TOLLS ME ALL THE RECALL WAS FOR WAS A SOFTWARE UPDATE. SO I FIGURED THAT WOULD FIX THE VIBRATION AND IT DIDN'T . I FEEL JUST BECAUSE MY CAR DON'T THROW A CODE AT THAT TIME I TOOK IT IN FORD WILL NOT REPLACE THE TORQUE SENSOR NOW EVEN THOUGH THE MECHANIC COULD VISIBLE SEE MY STEERING WHEEL VIBRATING AND TWITCHING.
