Me and my wife purchased a vehicle from a private seller to use for personal commute. A month later we started to notice more issue were occurring with the car then stated from the seller. I took it to an auto body shop to get it inspected and possibly serviced and upon that inspection the clerk stated that there was a milage adjustment done to the vehicle. We contacted the seller to try and return the vehicle and receive our money back, but the dealer refused and requested us to resell it.
When the weather is hot (close to 100 degrees or more) and I am driving with the a/c - my vehicle on 3 occasions will not start after parking the vehicle and trying to restart it. The red padlock sign blinks and it won't start. At first it is trying to turnover but then will continually sound worse and all other warning lights go haywire. I leave the car alone for half a day and it starts up again like nothing happened. On the fourth occasion, the car stopped while driving, just a quiet shutdown and the car glided. This time it did not work for over 24 hours and then started up again like nothing happened. Multiple mechanics and also the dealership cannot figure out the problem because by the time i have it towed to shop, it works again. They did a full check on the car and cannot find anything wrong and there were no diagnostic codes. This issue happens when the weather is hot and poses a safety concern as now it is shutting off while driving and I become stranded each time. (First incident happened 8/25/18, last incident 5/14/22) Total of 4.
I was driving when it felt like the vehicle was reving in park then the "wrench" icon appeared on my dash. I went a couple blocks & my vehicle felt like it wasn't shifting automatically as it should. I pulled over & turned it off. It started right back up with no lights on, I went half a block & stopped at a stop sign but while stopped the engine reved up. I was worried I was going to be in an accident. Then the "wrench" light came back on, since I was close to home I figured I'd just try to get home. About another block, the check engine light came on & was making strange noises. I kept my vehicle at about 5-10 mph & got it home. My car was very jerky.
THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT A STOPLIGHT. THE LIGHT HAD TURNED GREEN, AND THE VEHICLE WAS BREAKING TO STOP BEHIND THE FIRST VEHICLE. I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL TO FOLLOW THE FIRST VEHICLE AND THE CAR STALLED. THE CAR COULD NOT BE TURNED BACK ON OR PUT IN MOTION. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM PRIOR TO THIS THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. THE CAR WAS PUSHED OFF THE ROAD BY 3 PEOPLE AND INTO A NEARBY PARKING LOT. THE PROBLEM THAT MADE THE VEHICLE UNSAFE WAS A DEFECTIVE FORD THROTTLE BODY. THE REFERENCE CONSUMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N03. I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE JUNE 2014, BUT FORD ONLY SUGGESTED A RECALIBRATION (NOT REPLACEMENT). THE RECALIBRATION WAS COMPLETED AT FORD AUTONATION ON JUNE 23, 2014. FORD HAD ESTIMATED A THROTTLE BODY REDUCTION IN MOVABILITY AND NOT FAILURE. THE MILEAGE OF THIS MERCURY MARINER ON THE DATE OF REPAIR WAS 142551 AND THE IN-SERVICE DATE, 06/18/2010. THEREFORE, THE REIMBURSEMENT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER FORD'S EXTENDED WARRANTY OF 150000 MILES/10 YEARS. THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED 06/08/2020. TEN DAYS PRIOR TO THE EXPIRATION OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. FORD CLAIMS THEY WILL NOT REIMBURSE FOR THE THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. THIS WAS WELL-DOCUMENTED IN THE PREVIOUS CLAIM 13N03 AND THIS CASE SHOULD BE REOPENED, BASED ON THE FATALITY POSSIBILITY OF A THROTTLE BODY FAILURE WITH THE ORIGINAL PART THAT CAME WITH THE VEHICLE, WHICH WAS ALSO RE-CALIBRATED PER FORD'S RECALL IN 2014. THIS INCIDENT PROVES THAT FORD'S RE-CALIBRATION DID NOT PREVENT FAILURE OF THE THROTTLE BODY. ASKING FOR A RECALL FOR THE THROTTLE BODY FOR THE SIMILAR MAKES AND MODELS STILL IN CIRCULATION AS IT'S A SAFETY HAZARD AND ALSO REIMBURSEMENT FOR THIS SERVICE FOR VEHICLES THAT HAD IT COMPLETED. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. VEHICLE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY (ETB) WAS REPLACED AT VETERANS FORD DEALERSHIP IN TAMPA, FL DUE TO THIS PART SEVERELY EFFECTING ABILITY OF THE VEHICLE TO RUN PROPERLY (SEVERAL TIMES). CUSTOMER PAID FOR THIS REPAIR. SOMETIME AFTER 3/4/14 WHEN NHTSA COMPLETED THEIR INVESTIGATION, WE RECEIVED A NOTICE THAT FORD WAS REPLACING THIS ITEM. SINCE WE ALREADY PAID FOR THE REPAIR ($381.32) AT A FORD DEALERSHIP, WE TRIED TO GET THE REIMBURSEMENT THAT FORD OWES US. WE WERE INFORMED WE HAD TO HAVE THE ORIGINAL RECEIPT, WHICH TO THIS DAY IS STILL PACKED UP IN STORAGE IF WE HAVE IT AT ALL BECAUSE WE MOVED FROM FL TO NC AND ARE STILL INVOLVED IN BUYING A NEW HOME. THE BOTTOM LINE IS FORD (CORP) IS REFUSING TO HONOR THEIR AGREEMENT TO REIMBURSE CUSTOMERS. THE CRAZIEST PART OF THIS WHOLE DILEMMA IS THAT FORD HAS AND CONTROLS 100% OF THE INFORMATION NEEDED TO PROCESS OUR REIMBURSEMENT, BUT ABSOLUTELY REFUSES TO DO SO WITHOUT THE ORIGINAL RECEIPT. I COULD UNDERSTAND IF WE HAD THIS REPAIR DONE AT SOME UNRELATED, THIRD PARTY SERVICE FACILITY. HOWEVER, WE WENT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE RECORD OF COMPLETING THE REPAIR AND US PAYING THEM FOR THE REPAIR. SO AGAIN, FORD HAS ALL THE INFORMATION (PROOF) IN THEIR POSSESSION TO TAKE CARE OF THIS REIMBURSEMENT, BUT REFUSES TO DO SO. I HAVE CALLED THE CUSTOMER (DIS)SATISFACTION DEPARTMENT AT FORD CORPORATE, BUT THAT IS LIKE TALKING TO A BRICK WALL AS FAR AS ANYONE HAVING IN COMMON SENSE, ACCOUNTABILITY OR DECENCY TO DO THE RIGHT THING (CERTAINLY ANY KIND OF GOOD WILL IS LACKING IN THAT ORGANIZATION). THIS HAD HAPPENED BEFORE SO I KNEW TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON TO GET MY CAR TO WORK AGAIN. BUT ALAS, I AM DRIVING AT ABOUT 30 MPG FOR ONLY 2 MINUTES AND IT HAPPENS AGAIN! IN THIS INSTANCE, AGAIN THERE WAS NO WARNING. I HAD JUST EXITED OFF OF THE HIGHWAY AND WAS ACCELERATING AFTER A STOP SIGN. THE VEHICLE STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. IN 2011, WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL AND COULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE ENGINE STAYED ON BUT I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. THEN AGAIN IN OCTOBER 2013, I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WHEN I LOST ACCELERATION CAPABILITY. THIS TIME THE THROTTLE BODY INDICATOR LIGHT WAS DISPLAYED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO A MECHANIC AND HE STATED THAT NOTHING REGISTERED ON THE COMPUTER AS A MALFUNCTION. HE LOOKED AT THE INTAKE VALVE AND COULD NOT SEE ANY BUILD-UP. IN JANUARY 2014 THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES AND I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND PROCEED. HOWEVER, ON JANUARY 11, 2014 AFTER THE MALFUNCTION THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESET IMMEDIATELY NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS DISPLAYED. *TR

WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A BAD THROTTLE BODY AND THROTTLE MOTOR. THE REPAIRS COST APPROXIMATELY $500. *TR

I WAS DRIVING ALONG ON THE HIGHWAY (I-77 N) AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR STARTED TO JERK. THE WRENCH TOOL LIGHT LIT UP ON THE DASH BOARD AND THE CAR IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO LOOSE SPEED. THE CHANGE IN POWER AND SPEED WAS QUICK AND I HAD TO QUICKLY CHECK THE SURROUNDING TRAFFIC AND PULL THE CAR OVER TO AVOID AND ACCIDENT. AFTER PULLING OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD I CUT THE CAR COMPLETELY OFF AND IT STARTED BACK UP. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND I WAS ADVISED TO REPLACE THE FILTER. I PURCHASED A FILTER FROM FORD AND MY CAR RAN SMOOTHLY FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS. I WOULD PUSH ON THE ACCELERATOR BUT IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. EACH TIME THE WRENCH TOOL WOULD APPEAR AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON. I HAVE LOST SPEED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. AFTER MY CAR STARTED TO CUT OFF AGAIN FOLLOWING THE INSTALLATION OF THE NEW FILTER I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS INSTRUCTED TO PURCHASE THROTTLE BODY SPRAY. THEY CLEANED OUT THE THROTTLE BODY AND THE CAR DROVE FINE FOR A FEW DAYS UNTIL I BEGAN EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. SOME TIMES I WOULD HAVE TO CUT MY CAR OFF A FEW TIMES AND RESTART IT ON ONE ROUND TRIP. I KEEP REGULAR MAINTENANCE ON THIS CAR, CHANGING THE OIL AND ROTATING THE TIRES, ETC. I PURCHASED THE CAR IN DECEMBER 2012 BECAUSE THE CAR I HAD OVER $2,500 OF NEEDED MAINTENANCE. I NEEDED A RELIABLE CAR TO GET AROUND AS THE PRIMARY TRANSPORTATION FOR MY FAMILY. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER A FEW TIMES AND THEY EXPLAINED THE CODE AND EXPLANATION OF THE PROBLEM: TROUBLE CODE P2111, THROTTLE BODY ACTUATOR STUCK OPEN AND CLOSED. I REALLY HOPE THIS INVESTIGATION IS EXPEDITED AND THAT FORD RECALLS THE MERCURY MARINER 2010 DUE TO THE FAULTY THROTTLE BOTTLE. I WAS ON A MAJOR EXPRESSWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTING DECREASING SPEED. I WENT FROM 55 MPH TO 45 TO 35 TO 25 TO 15 TO 5 AND THE STOPPED. I TALKED TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY ADVISED THERE WAS NO RECALL AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO.I WE SPENT $362.56 ON THROTTLE AND TWO LETTERS LATER FORD WILL DO NOTHING SINCE THEY SAY WE DO NOT HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND WE ARE BEYOND THREE YEARS/36,000 MILES. ASKED DEALER TO LOOK INTO SITUATION AGAIN ON VISIT ON MAY 30TH. TECHS FOUND NOTHING WRONG. WAS DRIVING HOME ON INTERSTATE ON EVENING OF JUNE 7TH WHEN IT FELT LIKE THE ENGINE HAD LOST POWER. I WAS DRIVING 60 MPH, BUT I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO A WIDE SHOULDER AREA. THE ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I TURNED OFF CAR AND LET IT SIT FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES. IT STARTED UP WITH NO PROBLEMS. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT ABOUT 45-50 MPH UNTIL OFF INTERSTATE AND GOT IT TO DEALERSHIP WITH NO ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS AND LEFT IT. WAITING TO HEAR OUTCOME FROM THEM. *TR

A YEAR AGO IN JULY OF 2012 NOT SURE THE APPROXIMATE DATE, I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK AND ALL OF A SUDDEN EVERYTHING JUST CUT OFF. I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOOR AND NOTHING. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP SAME DAY AND THEY HAD IT ALL DAY LONG AND COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT CAUSED THE SHORT AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. NOW PRESENT DAY WHICH IS A BOUT A YEAR LATER I TAKE MY CAR IN FOR A SIMPLE SAFETY INSPECTION, WAIT 10 MINUTES FOR THE PORTER TO BRING ME MY CAR TO FIND OUT ITS IDLING AND THE ACCELERATOR IS TO THE FLOOR AND ITS NOT MOVING. THE GENTLEMEN COMES IN AND TELLS ME ITS MY THROTTLE BODY GOING OUT ON THE CAR, HE TOLD ME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO SEVERAL PEOPLE AND THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER. HE SAID A GUY HAS HAD HIS CAR SITTING THERE FOR 10 DAYS AND THE PART HAS YET TO COME IN. THEY TELL ME THIS NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, BUT IRONICALLY ENOUGH MY WARRANTY EXPIRED 4 DAYS AGO MAY 25,2013, WHICH I WASN'T AWARE OF. I WAS AT THE DEALER 2 MONTHS PRIOR GETTING A OIL CHANGE THIS DIDN'T DAWN ON YOU TO TELL ME IT WAS GOING TO EXPIRE. SO I CAME TO YOU WITH THIS PROBLEM A YEAR AGO YOU HAD NO CLUE AND SAID HAVE A GREAT DAY, I'VE BEEN IN EVERY 3 MONTHS OR SO FOR OIL CHANGES SINCE THAT INCIDENT, AND YOU COULDN'T HAVE NOTICED THIS PROBLEM BEFORE MY WARRANTY EXPIRED AWFULLY CONVENIENT. I'M AMAZED WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS AND PROBLEMS I'VE SEEN ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE AND NO RECALL HAS BEEN MADE. THIS IS DANGEROUS. WHAT IT TELLS ME IS THAT FORD DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THEIR CONSUMERS ENOUGH TO TAKE THIS MATTER SERIOUSLY AND CORRECT THIS ERROR. *TR
THE CAR LOST ALL POWER WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 65 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO STEER IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND TO RESTART IT. THE SAME THING HAPPENED IN 3 MILES AND THEN AGAIN IN 1 MILE. IT WAS OKAY FOR THE NEXT 3 MONTHS. THEN I TRIED TO PASS A TRACTOR AND MY CAR STALLED. I GOT IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAS ABLE TO LIMP INTO A FORD SERVICE CENTER WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED A " THROTTLE BODY FAILURE". I AM WAITING ON A PART BACK ORDER TO GET IT FIXED! *TR

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET IN OUR MERCURY MARINER WHEN IT SUDDENLY WENT FROM 30 TO 0 MPH FOR NO REASON. HER FOOT WAS ON THE ACCELERATOR WHEN IT SUDDENLY SLOWED TO A STOP, RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. WHEN SHE TRIED TO DRIVE IT AGAIN THE POWERTRAIN ALARM WAS ON SO WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. FORD MECHANICS FOUND IT TO BE AN INTERNAL SHORT IN THE THROTTLE BODY AND REPLACED IT. UNBELIEVABLY, WE HAD TO PAY $342.47, AFTER FORD REFUSED TO DO THE REPLACEMENT OF AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE ENGINE EVEN THOUGH THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY WAS STILL IN EFFECT AND IT WAS A POWERTRAIN ALARM. NOT ONLY DO I BELIEVE THIS REPAIR SHOULD HAVE BEEN PAID BY FORD UNDER THE WARRANTY, BUT I BELIEVE WE WERE FORCED TO CORRECT A DANGEROUS DEFECT THAT SHOULD HAVE HAD A RECALL, AS MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEMS WITH THEIR FORD PRODUCTS AND IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR A CAR TO COME TO A SUDDEN HALT FOR NO REASON. *TR

SEVERAL TIMES, WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE, ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SOON AFTERWARD. AT TIMES I WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, AND AT TIMES SLOWER--THE LAST TIME BEFORE SERVICE WAS APPROX. 40 MPH. HAD TO PULL OVER SEVERAL TIMES TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, STOP THE ENGINE, THEN RESTART AND TRY TO CONTINUE DRIVING. AFTER SEVERAL MORE LOSSES OF COMPRESSION AND POWER, RETURNED HOME AND TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED. THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS, BUT WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. PROBLEM RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES AFTERWARD, AND WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON, RETURNED FOR SERVICE ON 4/02/12, WHERE THE DIAGNOSTICS CONFIRMED A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY. IT WAS REPLACED AND THERE HAVE BEEN NO PROBLEMS SINCE THEN. I HAD TO SPEND THE FOLLOWING AMOUNTS FOR SERVICE: DIAGNOSTICS ON 3/30/12: $59. ACTUAL REPAIR ON 4/02/12: $450.61. *TR

2010 MERCURY MARINER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE HESITATION INTERMITTENTLY AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED SHE BEGAN NOTICING THE PROBLEM IN 2011, AFTER A 2010 UPDATE OF THE TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE IN A FACTORY RECALL. IN ADDITION TO THE HESITATION WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE, THERE WERE ALSO A FEW INSTANCES WHERE THE CRUISE CONTROL SEEMED TO EITHER SURGE OR BACK DOWN, AS IF IT DIDN'T KNOW QUITE HOW TO RESPOND, USUALLY, BUT NOT ALWAYS, WHEN ON A SLIGHT INCLINE. THE CONSUMER STATED ON ONE OCCASION, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK, WITH THE MOTOR IDLING, SHE WAS UNABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO TO GEAR ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT, WHEN IT DID SHIFT, IT SHIFTED VERY HARD AND NOISILY INTO GEAR ON THE 2ND ATTEMPT. ALSO, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHIFT ROUGH IN LOWER GEARS, TYPICALLY FROM AS TOP OR ACCELERATING AFTER SLOWING TO ALMOST A STOP. THE CONSUMER WENT TO ANOTHER DEALER, AFTER THE DEALER WHERE SHE ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM, FAILED TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEMS SHE EXPERIENCING. THE SECOND DEALER INFORMED HER, THE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY WAS DAMAGED EVEN BEFORE THE RECALL CAME OUT IN 2012. THE PART WAS REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A HESITATION IN JANUARY 2013. THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER READING ABOUT AN INVESTIGATION OF FORD VEHICLE, WHICH INCLUDED HER MODEL YEAR, SHE WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED.
ENGINE STALLED WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, STARTED SURGING, RUNNING VERY ROUGH AND WOULD NOT GO ANY FASTER THAN ABOUT 15 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AND SHUT OFF. AFTER A FEW MINUTES THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED AND SEEMED TO RUN NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE RAN NORMALLY UNTIL 10/05/2012 WHEN IT STALLED AND RAN VERY ROUGH AGAIN. AT THIS TIME THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER FOR A CHECK. WHILE WAITING FOR A CALL BACK FROM THE DEALER THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND SEEM TO RUN NORMALLY AGAIN. AFTER TALKING TO THE SERVICE MGR., IT WAS LEARNED THAT THE PROBLEM MOST LIKELY WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT WOULD NOT BE UNDER WARRANTY. AT THIS TIME IT WAS DECIDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL SHOP THAT WE WERE VERY PLEASED WITH FOR PAST SERVICE FOR OTHER VEHICLES WITHIN OUR FAMILY. THE LOCAL SHOP ORDERED AND INSTALLED A NEW THROTTLE BODY AND THE VEHICLE HAS PERFORMED NORMALLY. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY AFTER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,200.

RESTARTED AND RAN NORMALLY. NEXT DAY DEALER STATES THAT NO FAULTS WERE REGISTERED, SUSPECTS THROTTLE BODY DEFECT. CONCERNED THAT I MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY TO BE IN LIGHT TRAFFIC NEXT TIME RESULTING IN ACCIDENT. *TR
