I was driving when it felt like the vehicle was reving in park then the "wrench" icon appeared on my dash. I went a couple blocks & my vehicle felt like it wasn't shifting automatically as it should. I pulled over & turned it off. It started right back up with no lights on, I went half a block & stopped at a stop sign but while stopped the engine reved up. I was worried I was going to be in an accident. Then the "wrench" light came back on, since I was close to home I figured I'd just try to get home. About another block, the check engine light came on & was making strange noises. I kept my vehicle at about 5-10 mph & got it home. My car was very jerky.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCURY MARINER WHICH WAS BEING TOWED BY A 2004 FLEETWOOD TIOGA MONTARA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE HOOD. THE MOTOR HOME WAS PULLED OVER, THE CONTACT OPENED THE HOOD, AND NOTICED THAT THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CHUCK COLVIN FORD NISSAN (1925 N HWY 99 W, MCMINNVILLE, OR 97128, 503-472-6124), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A KNOWN OCCURRENCE WITH THE TRANSMISSION AT APPROXIMATELY 50,000 MILES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 56,000. *TT

I WAS DRIVING AT 65+ MPH ON EXPRESSWAY - VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING AND A VIOLENT SHAKING OF THE VEHICLE OCCURRED FORCING ME OFF THE HIGHWAY - AT THIS TIME NOTICE AN IMAGE OF A "WRENCH" LIT UP ON DASH -- I WAS ABLE TO GET VEHICLE TO THE DEALER - NOT WORRIED DUE TO I STILL HAD 2000 MILES LEFT ON WARRANTY, ONLY TO BE TOLD THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. MY QUESTION IS THIS IS HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD UNDER NO QUESTIONS BE A CHARGE TO THE CONSUMER. I WAS CHARGED 309.20 TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY MOTOR AND ASSEMBLY. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH MANY OF THE FORD VEHICLES. ATTACHED IS THE INVOICE THAT I HAD TO PAY. I HAVE TRIED TO OBTAIN THE ZONE REP FOR MY AREA AND I AM HAVING TROUBLE GETTING THIS INFO FROM MY DEALER. I AM STILL INVESTIGATING AS TO HOW TO OBTAIN THIS INFO AS I BELIEVE SOMEONE IN HIGHER POSITION THEN DEALER NEEDS TO BE AWARE.

OUR 2010 MERCURY MARINER HAD A CLUNKING AND LOSS OF POWER ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THE FIRST TIME WE BROUGHT IT TO THE FORD DEALER AND HE CHECKED CODES, ETC, ONLY TO FIND NOTHING. THE CLUNKING OR LOSS OF POWER DID NOT CAME BACK FOR A WHILE. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, THE CLUNKING SOUND APPEARED AGAIN, THERE WAS AN EVIDENT LOSS OF POWER AND THE ORANGE WRENCH DISPLAYED ON THE SPEEDOMETER INDICATED AN ISSUE. I HAD TO WORK ON GETTING THE VEHICLE UP TO SPEED AND POWER AGAIN, SLOWING THE TRAFFIC IN BACK OF ME DOWN. THE VEHILE WAS PURCHASED A YEAR AGO, ALMOST TO THE DAY AND HAS APPROXIMATELY 52,000 MILES ON IT. I CALLED THE FORD DEALER WHO MADE ARRANGEMENTS TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR A CHECK UP. BASED ON WHAT I'M READING, THESE ARE KNOWN ISSUES WITH A THROTTLE? NOT CERTAIN IF THERE'S A RECALL OR NOT BUT WILL CERTAINLY FIND OUT. BASICALLY, OUR VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 MERCURY MARINER PREMIUM FWD TO MY MOTHERS FOR CHRISTMAS '14 WHEN THE ENGINE LIGHT WRENCH CAME ON AND I FELT A LOSS IN POWER. LUCKILY I WAS NEAR A REST STOP AND I SHUT OFF ENGINE AND LET IT SIT AFTER RUNNING A VEHICLE HEALTH REPORT. REPORT SAID: URGENT POWER TRAIN MALFUNCTION / REDUCED POWER. AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, IT SEEMED FINE. THIS WAS WHEN I STILL HAD ABOUT THREE HOURS LEFT OF DRIVING IN MY EIGHT HOUR DRIVE. WHEN I WAS ABOUT AN HOUR AWAY AGAIN THE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE SAME POWER REDUCTION OCCURRED. I TOOK IT TO BE LOOKED AT TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER NEAR MY MOTHERS AND WAS TOLD THE VALVE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS WAS AT 74,000 MILES. SO I DID. I HAD THIS HAPPEN ONCE BEFORE (I HAD 58,000 MILES ON IT) WHEN DRIVING TO A SHOPPING CENTER AFTER DRIVING 45 MINUTES ON THE HIGHWAY FROM HOME. ONLY HAPPENED WHEN DRIVING LONG DISTANCE. WHEN I GOT OFF THE EXIT, IT JERKED AND QUICKLY STOPPED AND I HAD TO PULL OVER. IF A CAR WAS BEHIND ME IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT.. I DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT I HAD A COUPLE RECALLS (COMPUTER UPDATES) AND A SERVICE EXTENSION FOR THE THROTTLE BODY. SHOULD FIX THE ISSUE SO IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN SAID THE MECHANIC. TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS FLUSHED CAUSE IT WAS BURNT ALSO. HAD NO ISSUES AFTERWARDS UNTIL MY CHRISTMAS TRIP. I FEEL I COULD HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND SERIOUSLY HURT IF IT HAD JERKED WHILE CHANGING GEARS ON A BUSY ROAD. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THERE IS A THROTTLE BODY RECALL BUT NOT A VALVE BODY RECALL? IF THESE ISSUES CAN CAUSE A QUICK JERK OR LOST POWER CAUSING A QUICK SLOW-DOWN, SEEMS LIKE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR BOTH. THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. WHILE THE BACKEND OF THE CAR IS JACKED UP, THE BACK RIGHT WHEEL WILL STILL TURN WHILE HOLDING THE BRAKES??? THE JERKING OF THE CAR IS ALMOST AS IF THE CAR IS SKIPPING A GEAR OR TRYING TO SWITCH GEARS. THE CAR IS ALSO MAKING A WHINNING SOUND. I FEEL AS IF THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR. THEY DECLINED TO REPAIR IT UNDER WARRANTY, STATING THAT THE PART WAS NO LONGER COVERED. THEY ALSO STATED THAT A RECALL HAD NOT BEEN ISSUED. I PAID A TOTAL OF $409.27 FOR THE REPAIR. THE CHANGE IN POWER AND SPEED WAS QUICK AND I HAD TO QUICKLY CHECK THE SURROUNDING TRAFFIC AND PULL THE CAR OVER TO AVOID AND ACCIDENT. AFTER PULLING OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD I CUT THE CAR COMPLETELY OFF AND IT STARTED BACK UP. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND I WAS ADVISED TO REPLACE THE FILTER. I PURCHASED A FILTER FROM FORD AND MY CAR RAN SMOOTHLY FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS. I WOULD PUSH ON THE ACCELERATOR BUT IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. EACH TIME THE WRENCH TOOL WOULD APPEAR AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON. I HAVE LOST SPEED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. AFTER MY CAR STARTED TO CUT OFF AGAIN FOLLOWING THE INSTALLATION OF THE NEW FILTER I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS INSTRUCTED TO PURCHASE THROTTLE BODY SPRAY. THEY CLEANED OUT THE THROTTLE BODY AND THE CAR DROVE FINE FOR A FEW DAYS UNTIL I BEGAN EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. SOME TIMES I WOULD HAVE TO CUT MY CAR OFF A FEW TIMES AND RESTART IT ON ONE ROUND TRIP. I KEEP REGULAR MAINTENANCE ON THIS CAR, CHANGING THE OIL AND ROTATING THE TIRES, ETC. I PURCHASED THE CAR IN DECEMBER 2012 BECAUSE THE CAR I HAD OVER $2,500 OF NEEDED MAINTENANCE. I NEEDED A RELIABLE CAR TO GET AROUND AS THE PRIMARY TRANSPORTATION FOR MY FAMILY. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER A FEW TIMES AND THEY EXPLAINED THE CODE AND EXPLANATION OF THE PROBLEM: TROUBLE CODE P2111, THROTTLE BODY ACTUATOR STUCK OPEN AND CLOSED. I REALLY HOPE THIS INVESTIGATION IS EXPEDITED AND THAT FORD RECALLS THE MERCURY MARINER 2010 DUE TO THE FAULTY THROTTLE BOTTLE. THE NEXT TIME IT WAS ON A SLIGHT INCLINE GOING HOME. THE ICON ON DASHBOARD WAS A WRENCH WHICH INDICATES IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE THROTTLE CONTROL. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET IN OUR MERCURY MARINER WHEN IT SUDDENLY WENT FROM 30 TO 0 MPH FOR NO REASON. HER FOOT WAS ON THE ACCELERATOR WHEN IT SUDDENLY SLOWED TO A STOP, RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. WHEN SHE TRIED TO DRIVE IT AGAIN THE POWERTRAIN ALARM WAS ON SO WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. FORD MECHANICS FOUND IT TO BE AN INTERNAL SHORT IN THE THROTTLE BODY AND REPLACED IT. UNBELIEVABLY, WE HAD TO PAY $342.47, AFTER FORD REFUSED TO DO THE REPLACEMENT OF AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE ENGINE EVEN THOUGH THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY WAS STILL IN EFFECT AND IT WAS A POWERTRAIN ALARM. NOT ONLY DO I BELIEVE THIS REPAIR SHOULD HAVE BEEN PAID BY FORD UNDER THE WARRANTY, BUT I BELIEVE WE WERE FORCED TO CORRECT A DANGEROUS DEFECT THAT SHOULD HAVE HAD A RECALL, AS MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEMS WITH THEIR FORD PRODUCTS AND IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR A CAR TO COME TO A SUDDEN HALT FOR NO REASON. *TR

THE CONSUMER STATED ON ONE OCCASION, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK, WITH THE MOTOR IDLING, SHE WAS UNABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO TO GEAR ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT, WHEN IT DID SHIFT, IT SHIFTED VERY HARD AND NOISILY INTO GEAR ON THE 2ND ATTEMPT. ALSO, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHIFT ROUGH IN LOWER GEARS, TYPICALLY FROM AS TOP OR ACCELERATING AFTER SLOWING TO ALMOST A STOP. THE CONSUMER WENT TO ANOTHER DEALER, AFTER THE DEALER WHERE SHE ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM, FAILED TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEMS SHE EXPERIENCING. THE SECOND DEALER INFORMED HER, THE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY WAS DAMAGED EVEN BEFORE THE RECALL CAME OUT IN 2012. THE PART WAS REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A HESITATION IN JANUARY 2013. THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER READING ABOUT AN INVESTIGATION OF FORD VEHICLE, WHICH INCLUDED HER MODEL YEAR, SHE WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCURY MARINER . THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH , THE POWER TRAIN WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF. THE CONTACT WAS THEN ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND DROVE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WITH 22,250 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, MY TRANSMISSION FAILED; VERY HARSH ENGAGEMENTS, VEHICLE JERKS HARD BETWEEN GEARS, LOOSES POWER AND POPS FORWARD WHEN DRIVING STEADY SPEED AND WHEN APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION TO STOP OR TURN. SAFETY CONCERNS DUE TO UNKNOWN IF POWER FAILURE WILL OCCUR WHEN THERE IS ONCOMING TRAFFIC OR IF VEHICLE WILL POP ME INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC OR HIT SOMEONE AHEAD OF ME IN TRAFFIC. I PURCHASED 2010 MERCURY MARINER AT THE END OF MAY 2010, APPROXIMATELY 21 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASE DATE MY TRANSMISSION FAILED; VERY HARSH ENGAGEMENTS, VEHICLE JERKS HARD BETWEEN GEARS, LOOSES POWER AND POPS FORWARD WHEN DRIVING STEADY SPEED AND WHEN APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION TO STOP OR TURN. I RETURNED VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP FOR CONTINUED TRANSMISSION SAFETY ISSUES (SAME AS NOTED ABOVE) ON 12/06/10 (4 DAYS WITH DEALERSHIP), AGAIN ON 1/11/11 (16 DAYS WITH DEALERSHIP) AFTER I HAD SUBMITTED 30 DEMAND LETTER ON 12/15/10 TO REPAIR OR REPURCHASE VEHICLE AND DEALERSHIP ADVISED EACH TIME TRANSMISSION REPAIR COMPLETED. YET EACH TIME TRANSMISSION ISSUES/CONCERNS STILL REMAIN. DEALERSHIP SERVICE MANAGER DROVE VEHICLE AND AGREED THERE ARE TRANSMISSION ISSUES/CONCERNS. FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS ADVISED A TSB WOULD BE ISSUED PRIOR TO END OF JUNE 2011 THAT WOULD CORRECT TRANSMISSION AND OFFERED AN EXTENDED POWER TRAIN WARRANTY OF 60 MONTHS OR 100,000 MILES. I HAVE SENT EMAILS TO FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS INQUIRING ON THE TSB ON 6/27/11, 6/29/11 AND 7/7/11, NO RESPONSE RECEIVED. NO TSB TO DATE. FORD MOTOR COMPANY IS NOT STANDING BEHIND THEIR VEHICLE PRODUCTION NOR THE CONSUMER THAT PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE. *TR
