FOR NO APPARENT REASON IT HAPPENS WHILE TURNING OR DURING ACCELERATION AT ONE POINT I HAD TO WAIT FOR SEVERAL MINUTES ON THE HIGHWAY BEFORE STARTING THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND I GET SIMILAR CODES RELATED TO TBS POWERTRAIN AND THE FUEL CAP I NOTICED THAT WHEN FILLING UP, I NEED TO STOP PUMPING GAS ONCE IT HAS STOPS AUTOMATICALLY, WITHOUT ME TOPPING IT OFF NOT EVEN ONCE! AND THE LIGHT WILL MOST LIKELY WILL NOT COME ON,IT MAY GO AWAY BY ITSELF IF NOT I ERASE THE CODE.I CLEAN THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY LAST SUMMER AND IT HAS RUN WITH NO PROBLEMS AT ALL UNTIL NOW! DRIVING FROM COLUMBUS TO CINCINNATI AROUND 1:00 AM WITH MY DAUGHTER, SON AND 15 MONTH OLD GRANDDAUGHTER. THE CAR LOST ALL POWER LEAVING US STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AS I PULLED OVER THE CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE, ALMOST LIKE THERE WAS WATER IN THE GAS LINE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND THEN RESTARTED. THE CAR RESET ITSELF AND LUCKILY WE MADE IT THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. NOT TOO LONG AFTER THAT, I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND IT DID THE SAME THING. EXCEPT THIS TIME, IT WOULD ONLY GO ABOUT 2 MILES BEFORE IT WOULD QUIT AGAIN. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE. NO ONLY COULD I HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, BUT BEING STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE EXPRESSWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WITH AN INFANT WAS TERRIFYING! I HAD THE THROTTLE VALVE SENSOR REPLACED AND THERE HAS NOT BEEN ANY ADDITIONAL INSTANCES OF POWER FAILURE.

AS I TRIED TO MOVE UNSUCCESSFULLY, WE WENT DOWN TO A SLOPE OF ABOUT 20 DEGREES. AS A RESULT, BOTH OF US HAD TO BE TAKEN FOR EMERGENCY TREATMENT FOR KNOCKS, CUTS AND FOLLOW UP CHECKS. SO FAR, IT HAS COST US $16,497.00 AND REPAIR OF THE CAR US$6,853.00. THERE HAS BEEN OTHER EVENTS WHERE THE CAR SUDDENLY STOPS AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECOMES STIFF. BUT, I DON T USE THE CAR IN THE HIGHWAY BUT ONLY FOR SHORTS ERRANDS AND WITHIN THE AREA WHERE WE LIVE. ITS BEEN A NIGHTMARE. I HAVE CHANGED THE THROTTLE CASING MODULE, THE RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE, I PUT A RUBBER STOP ON THE ACCELERATION PEDAL, ETC. ON MAY 3RD I WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 35 MPH WHEN THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND MY CAR STALLED OUT IN MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THIS TIME I WAS STUCK IN MIDDLE OF THE ROAD BUT NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND CONTINUE DRIVING. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON THE MAIN ROAD THEN THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD CHANCE OF AN ACCIDENT OCCURRING AND HARMING ME OR MY CHILDREN.

I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO A MECHANIC AND HE STATED THAT NOTHING REGISTERED ON THE COMPUTER AS A MALFUNCTION. HE LOOKED AT THE INTAKE VALVE AND COULD NOT SEE ANY BUILD-UP. IN JANUARY 2014 THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES AND I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND PROCEED. HOWEVER, ON JANUARY 11, 2014 AFTER THE MALFUNCTION THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESET IMMEDIATELY NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS DISPLAYED. *TR

WE HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE SEEN THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON SAFETY PROBLEM. WE SPOKE WITH OUR NEIGHBORS WHO HAVE A FORD ESCAPE AND ALREADY HAD THEIR THROTTLE BODY REPLACED AS WELL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. WE WERE TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE NEW PART IS DESIGNED DIFFERENTLY NOW, SO THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN TO US AGAIN. THIS HAS TO BE A RECALL ITEM. IT IS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. FORD SHOULD HAVE TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE CHARGES. WE ARE VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT FORD HAS NOT TAKEN RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS ISSUE AND THAT ALL OF US HAVE TO PAY FOR A DEFECTIVE SYSTEM THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY KNOWS IS A PROBLEM, AND COULD HAVE BEEN THE CAUSE OF A MAJOR ACCIDENT. *TR

I CALLED MY LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND TOLD THEM TO EXPECT ME. I HAD PLANS OF HAVING THE CAR TOWED. AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES OF HAVING MY VEHICLE OFF, I TRIED TO START IT AND IT WAS RUNNING NORMALLY. MY REPAIR SHOP TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND THE NEXT DAY AND DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THEY ALSO DIDN'T FIND ANY CODES APPEARING IN THE VEHICLES MEMORY. THEY DID FIND AN ARTICLE ONLINE ABOUT THE SAME THING HAPPENING TO THE SAME TYPE VEHICLES. I CALLED MY FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND WERE GOING TO CHECK IF THERE WERE ANY BULLETINS. I AM WAITING A PHONE CALL BACK. *TR

I HAD A COUPLE MORE ISSUES BUT I DID NOT DRIVE IT MUCH DURING COLDER WEATHER. IN JUNE OF 2013 I HAD ANOTHER INCIDENT WITH THE SAME ISSUE. OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS IT CONTINUED OCCASIONALLY BUT IN AUGUST OF 2013 IT STARTED MORE OFTEN. ONE INCIDENT WAS IN AN INTERSECTION THAT WAS VERY BUSY AND I CALLED THE SAME FORD DEALERSHIP TO GET IT IN AGAIN AND THEY THEN FOUND THE THROTTLE BODY WAS BAD AND HAD TO BE REPLACED, AT THIS TIME IT NOW CAST ME OVER $500.00 DOLLARS TO FIX IT. *TR

I CALLED FOMOCO AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF THIS ISSUE DESPITE MANY COMPLAINTS I HAVE SEEN ONLINE THROUGH THE NHTSA. THIS HAS HAPPENED FOUR MORE TIMES SINCE. I THOUGHT AT FIRST THAT I HAD BAD GASOLINE BECAUSE THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON FOR THE SECOND INCIDENT AND THE CAR WAS LOW ON GAS. I LIMPED TO A GAS STATION THAT TIME AND FILLED THE TANK. AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR EVERYTHING WORKED NORMALLY, AND THE ENGINE LIGHT TURNED OFF. IN ADDITION TO THE HESITATION WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE, THERE WERE ALSO A FEW INSTANCES WHERE THE CRUISE CONTROL SEEMED TO EITHER SURGE OR BACK DOWN, AS IF IT DIDN'T KNOW QUITE HOW TO RESPOND, USUALLY, BUT NOT ALWAYS, WHEN ON A SLIGHT INCLINE. THE CONSUMER STATED ON ONE OCCASION, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK, WITH THE MOTOR IDLING, SHE WAS UNABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO TO GEAR ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT, WHEN IT DID SHIFT, IT SHIFTED VERY HARD AND NOISILY INTO GEAR ON THE 2ND ATTEMPT. ALSO, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHIFT ROUGH IN LOWER GEARS, TYPICALLY FROM AS TOP OR ACCELERATING AFTER SLOWING TO ALMOST A STOP. THE CONSUMER WENT TO ANOTHER DEALER, AFTER THE DEALER WHERE SHE ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM, FAILED TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEMS SHE EXPERIENCING. THE SECOND DEALER INFORMED HER, THE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY WAS DAMAGED EVEN BEFORE THE RECALL CAME OUT IN 2012. THE PART WAS REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A HESITATION IN JANUARY 2013. THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER READING ABOUT AN INVESTIGATION OF FORD VEHICLE, WHICH INCLUDED HER MODEL YEAR, SHE WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED.

I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD, TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTART THE CAR. IF I HAD NOT BEEN CLOSE TO A SHOULDER, THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN MOST DANGEROUS FOR ME AND FOR THE TRAFFIC BEHIND ME. THE CAR JUST LOSES ALL POWER AND GETTING IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC IS A DANGEROUS ENDEAVOR. THIS CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN SAFELY. " I DROVE THE CAR TO A CLOSE BY LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO A SHOP EMPLOYEE. THE OWNER OF THE SHOP RECOMMENDED TAKING THE CAR TO A DEALER. I AM NOT A TIMID DRIVER, BUT I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR AND HAD IT TOWED ($52.50) TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THE COST TO REPLACE A THROTTLE BODY WAS $516.08. I READ RECENTLY THAT THE CAR WAS REPORTED TO SUPPLY LIMP-HOME SPEEDS. I DID NOT EXPERIENCE THIS AND DEFINITELY FEEL THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. *TR
