The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the electronic throttle body and the throttle body injectors failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 153,000.

I have a 2010 mercury milan premier thats power steering went out I found out the part has been recalled on the 2011 model but not the 2010 model and it's the same exact part so now the 2011 has been recalled but not the 2010 and I'm out over 600 dollars + to fix it

WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE A WRENCH EMBLEM APPEARED ON MY DASH WARNING PANEL. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE BEFORE. IN THE LAST INSTANCE THE VEHICLE THEN DROPPED SPEED FROM 45 MPH TO 5 MPH AND RAN VERY ROUGHLY. I THEN PULLED THE VEHICLE TO THE CURB AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. I RESTARTED THE ENGINE THEN DROVE HOME WITH NO ISSUE. I CHECKED MY OWNERS MANUAL AND FOUND THE INDICATOR WAS A THROTTLE LINKAGE MALFUNCTION. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A FORD SERVICE CENTER. THEY REPLACED MY BATTERY BUT THIS DID NOT ALLEVIATE THE ISSUE. LUCKILY FOR ME THERE WAS LITTLE TO NO TRAFFIC WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED AS WITHOUT WARNING MY VEHICLE LOST POWER. I CHECKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE BUT FOUND NONE. TO ME THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED.

I WAS ON MY WAY BACK FROM A TRIP AND MY CAR STALLED OUT MULTIPLE TIMES. I WOULD BE GOING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND IT WOULD JUST CUT OUT. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET INTO THE SERVICE LANE AND RESTART THE CAR WITH NO PROBLEM, BUT THEN IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. AFTER 7 TIMES OF THIS HAPPENING IN ABOUT AN HOUR, I EVENTUALLY PULLED OVER AND WAITED FOR A TOW. I DID MY RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH MERCURY CARS IN MY MODEL YEAR DUE TO FAULTY THROTTLE BODY ISSUES. BECAUSE THE PROBLEM WAS SO WIDESPREAD, FORD ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT WOULD COVER A THROTTLE BODY REPAIR FOR 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES, WHICHEVER CAME FIRST. BASED ON THIS INFORMATION, IT SEEMED LIKE MY CAR WOULD BE COVERED. HOWEVER, AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY CLAIMED THAT IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED BECAUSE MY VIN DOESN'T MATCH THE LISTS AND ESTIMATED THE REPAIR AT $500-$700. THIS IS COMPLETELY CRAZY TO ME BECAUSE IT OBVIOUSLY HAPPENS TO CARS LIKE MINE AND HAS BEEN FIXED BY THE COMPANY AT NO COST. I BELIEVE I SHOULD ALSO RECEIVE THAT BENEFIT. I TALKED TO THE COMPANY AND HAVE LODGED A FORMAL COMPLAINT, AND I WILL ALSO BE SENDING A LETTER BECAUSE THIS IS JUST NOT ACCEPTABLE. IT WAS CODE P2112 , WITCH IS THE TROTTLE ACUTATOR MODULE !! AFTER RESETING THE OBD CODE IT WAS WORKING FINE ON THE DRIVEWAY. I'LL TAKE IT FOR A TEST DRIVE LATER. IT SEEMS CLEAR THAT A PROBLEM EXISTS WITH THE TROTTLE ACUTATOR ON THE TROTTLE BODY !!! A DESIGN FLAW IS VERY POSSIBLE, AND IT PRESENTS A DANGER WHEN DRIVING ON THE ROAD WITH A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND SPEED. A RECAL SHOULD BE IN THE WORKS FOR FORD !!! I'M TAKING THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP ON 8/23/2016 FOR DIAGNOSIS. THERE APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN COMPLAINTS REPORTED TO NHTSA ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THE CASE WAS CLOSED WITHOUT A RECALL. I TOOK IT BACK AND THEY SAID THEY DID AN UPDATE, HOWEVER ABOUT TWO MONTHS LATER THE SAME ISSUE OCCURED. I TOOK IT BACK TO FORD BECAUSE I AM UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY KEPT MY CAR FOR 4 DAYS AND SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND THE ISSUE. RECENTLY NOW ONLY THE BATTERY AND THE OIL CANISTER COMES ON, BUT WHEN IT STALLS OUT NOW IT JERKS REALLY HARD GOING FORWARD THEN STALLS OUT. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR. SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED AT LEAST 4 TIMES THAT THEY CANNOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE OR FIND THE ISSUE. CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE WEEK OF OCTOBER 14, 2014 AND WAS ASSIGNED [XXX] (866-631-3788 - EXT [XXX]) WHO WE TALKED TO AT LENGTH AND SEND A FOLLOW UP EMAIL (OCTOBER 16, 2014) . CALLED TWICE AND NOT RETURNED OUR CALLS. [XXX]. SAID SHE WOULD BE BACK TO US IN A FEW DAYS WITH A SOLUTION AND HAVE A SERVICE DEPARTMENT PREPARED TO FIX THE CAR. IT HAS NOW BEEN OVER 15 DAYS SINCE THE ORIGINAL CONVERSATION. WE ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE,IT HAS SUDDEN REDUCTION OF ENGINE POWER, REVS INTO A HIGH GEAR WITH NO MOVEMENT WHILE TRAVELING AT 30-55 MPH, AND TWICE HAS DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION. I'VE HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH THE MILAN THROTTLE BODY FOR OVER A YEAR. EVERYTIME I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER THEY SAY THE COMPUTER JUST NEEDS REPROGRAMMED. AFTER I LEAVE THE DEALERSHIP MY CAR USUALLY HAS A HARD FAILURE JUST LIKE IT DID BEFORE (LOSS OF POWER, ENGINE RUNNING ROUGH, CAR ROLLS TO A STOP). I CAN COMPLETELY TURN THE CAR OFF AND TURN BACK ON AND IT RUNS FINE AGAIN FOR A WHILE AND THEN DOES IT ALL OVER AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP WILL ONLY KEEP REPROGRAMMING THE COMPUTER. THEY HAVE ALSO REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY 2 TIMES BUT AFTER ABOUT 100 MILES IT STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN. FORD HAS REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN WHAT THE DEALERSHIP CAN FIND WHICH IS ONLY WHAT THE CODES SAY (REPROGRAM COMPUTER OR REPLACE THROTTLE BODY). I'M NOT GOING TO KEEP TAKING MY CAR IN EVERY WEEK TO GET REPROGRAMMED. FORD HAS REFUSED TO GIVE ME A LOANER CAR TO USE UNTIL THEY FIX IT. I'VE TAKEN MULTIPLE DAYS OFF WORK AND ARRANGED FOR OTHER TRANSPORTATION FOR THE PREVIOUS WORK. HOWEVER, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I CAN'T KEEP TAKING MY CAR BACK FOR SOME THAT FORD KNOWS NEEDS FIXED. THIS IS CLEARLY A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE. I TRAVEL A LOT ON HIGHWAYS AND INTERSTATES AND WHEN I LOSE POWER I'VE HAD SOME CLOSE CALLS WILL ACCIDENTS (RE ENDED) AND TRYING TO GET TO A SHOULDER TO PULL OFF AND RESTART CAR. I CAN NO LONGER USE MY CAR TO DRIVE MY KIDS AROUND DUE TO THE SAFETY CONCERNS OF BEING HIT DURING A FAILURE OR STRANDED. I'VE MADE THIS KNOWN VERY CLEARLY TO FORD BUT THEY DON'T SEEM TO CARE. I WAS TOLD THAT I WAS NOT IN DANGER OF GETTING STRANDED, SO I HAD MY HUSBAND FOLLOW ME TO WORK ON 8/18. THE CAR STALLED AGAIN ON 8/18 WHILE TRAVELING AT 40 MPH. RATHER THAN REPLACE THE FAULTY PART WHICH THEY DID HAVE IN STOCK, FORD MERELY RECALIBRATED THE POWERTRAIN SINCE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOT LIT WHEN I DROPPED OFF THE CAR FOR SERVICE, EVEN THOUGH I NOTIFIED THEM TWICE OF THE MULTIPLE INCIDENTS (VIA PHONE ON 8/18 AND IN PERSON ON 8/19). I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FORD SINCE THE CONTAMINATED INTERNAL MOTOR CONTACTS OF THE THROTTLE BODY REMAIN IN MY VEHICLE. *TR

I PURCHASED MY 2010 MERCURY MILAN LAST YEAR IN JULY 2013. THIS WEEKEND I STARTED HAVING AN ISSUE WITH A LOUD THUMPING SOUND COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD, ON IGNITION, GEAR CHANGING AND ACCELERATION. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TODAY AND WAS INFORMED THAT MY SUBFRAME IS COMPLETELY BROKEN. IT WAS NEVER WELDED, WHICH I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN. MEANING THIS WAS AN ISSUE BEFORE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE. MY ENGINE HAS MOVED 2 INCHES FORWARD, THE TECHNICIAN MOVED MY ENGINE WITH HIS BARE HAND BACK AND FORWARD. BOTH OF MY FRONT WHEEL AXLES ARE BROKEN DUE TO THE PRESSURE OF THE ENGINE NOT BEING SECURED WITH THIS SUBFRAME. I'M NOT REALLY GREAT WITH CAR REPAIRS KNOWLEDGE, BUT EVEN I KNOW THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE. I BOUGHT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH MY CAR DURING PURCHASE AND THEY WON'T PAY FOR THE REPAIR. I WAS QUOTED $600 FOR PARTS AND $624 FOR LABOR. NOT INCLUDING MY WHEEL AXLES THAT HAVE TO BE REPAIRED DUE TO THIS ISSUE. I HAVE CONTACTED THE BBB AND THE VP OF THE DEALER, CONCERNING THIS ISSUE. THE DEALER WAS SUPPOSED TO DO A COMPLETE INSPECTION OF MY VEHICLE AND THEY DID NOT. THEY SAY THEY STAND BY THEIR INSPECTIONS AND GUARANTEE. NOT THIS TIME!! I WAS ABLE TO CHANGE TO THE RIGHT LANE AND THEN BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP ON THE SHOULDER SAFELY, AVOIDING AN ACCIDENT, AS THE CAR WAS IN RAPID DECELERATION AND STEPPING ON THE GAS WAS UNRESPONSIVE. THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION, OR ENGINE NOISE OR RESPONSE WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL WHILE IN DRIVE POSITION AND THE KEY IN THE ON POSITION.I TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, WONDERING WHAT TO DO. I THEN TURNED THE KEY BACK ON, AND THE CAR WAS ABLE TO DRIVE. I TOOK SIDE ROADS HOME AND THEN SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT AT THE SELLING MANUFACTURER DEALERSHIP. THE DEFECT WAS IN THE THROTTLE BODY? THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE $500 REPAIR UNDER THE NEW VEHICLE WARRANTY (OUT ON TIME), THE $1700 EXTENDED WARRANTY I PURCHASED (NOT COVERED PART), THE EMISSIONS WARRANTY (NOT COVERED PART) OR THE HYBRID WARRANTY ( NOT COVERED PART), OR ANY RECALL, OR GOODWILL SERVICE PLAN OR SERVICE BULLETIN REPAIRS. THEN I FOUND OUT THERE WAS A SETTLEMENT WITH THE NHTSA FOR SIMILAR INCIDENTS THAT FORD AGREED TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON THE THROTTLE BODY FOR 150,000 MILES OR 10 YEARS. (THIS VEHICLE IS A 2010 WITH JUST OVER 20,000 MILES. THEY SAID IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE SETTLEMENT BECAUSE IT A HYBRID AND THEY WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE SETTLEMENT. I THINK THAT THIS PREMATURE FAILURE OF AN ITEM THAT THEY WILL REPLACE IF DEFECTIVE IN 150,000 MILES OR TEN YEARS AS PART OF A SETTLEMENT TO AVOID A RECALL AND ASSOCIATED PUBLIC DISCLOSURE, SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE AGREEMENT. I HAVE THE PART FROM THE DEALER. EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE FEWER HYBRIDS ON THE ROAD AS A STATISTIC, IT ONLY TAKES ONE FAILURE TO CAUSE A TRAGIC RESULT. THE RESULT OF THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS THERE WAS A CODE STORED IN SYSTEM OF THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. IT WAS GIVING A CODE FOR BEING STUCK OPEN WHEN IT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN. IT WAS A FAILED COMPONENT. THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER ARRIVED AFTER 20 MINUTES AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR ONTO THE FLATBED. SOME ABILITY TO DRIVE FORWARD HAD RETURNED BUT I WAS WARY. I HAD THE CAR TRANSPORTED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN IDENTIFIED THE THROTTLE BODY AS THE CULPRIT ($425 TO REPAIR). I'VE LEARNED SUBSEQUENT TO MY EXPERIENCE THAT THIS PROBLEM IS QUITE COMMON WITH 2009 - 2011 MERCURY MILANS. THE THROTTLE BODY REPAIR IS COVERED FOR 2 YEARS. I WAS TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED (70MPH) WHEN MY ENGINE BEGAN TO "STALL OUT" ON ME CAUSING A RAPID DECELERATION. THE TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY AND I WAS LUCKY TO BE ABLE TO MOVE ACROSS LANES AND REACH THE SHOULDER BEFORE CAR HAD SLOWED TO 5 MPH. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. SHUT OFF THE CAR RESTARTED IT AND ACCELERATOR WAS RESPONSIVE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE TO MERGE BACK ON TO HIGHWAY AND AGAIN LOST POWER. SHUT OFF CAR AGAIN AND ACCELERATING VERY SLOWLY WAS ABLE TO REACH AN EXIT ABOUT 1 MILE AWAY BEFORE CAR AGAIN LOST POWER. CALLED FOR A TOW BACK HOME AS VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE. CAR TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP SEPTEMBER 16TH FOR REPAIR AND THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I LEARNED ON LINE THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH CERTAIN FORD AND MERCURY PRODUCTS BUT THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL TO FIX THIS DEFECTIVE PART WHICH PUTS THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER IN GRAVE DANGER WHEN THE THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTIONS .LUCKILY I WAS IN A FAIRLY POPULATED AREA AND CELL PHONE SERVICE WAS AVAILABLE. I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK AND GOT ON THE FREEWAY AND AS I ACCELERATED TO THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC, THE CAR STARTED SPLUTTING AND I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE WITH A TRUCK CLOSE BEHIND ME AND CARS ON EACH SIDE. THE SPEED STARTED TO DECREASE AS I PUSHED ON THE GAS PETAL WITH NOTHING HAPPENING. IT WAS AS THOUGH IT RAN OUT OF GAS AND THE CONSOLE LIGHTS CAME ON. I PANIC AND TRIED TO WORK MY WAY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER DOING A SEARCH ON THE INTERNET, I FOUND NUMEROUS INCIDENTS OF THE EXACT SAME DESCRIPTION I HAVE HERE. THERE MUST BE AN INHERENT DEFECT OF THE PART USED IN THESE VEHICLES.

I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALER HOWEVER, SINCE I CLEARED THE CODE TO MAKE THE VEHICLE OPERATIONAL THEY WOULD NOT CORRECT THE ISSUE BECAUSE THEIR DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG. THANKFULLY, I DID NOT HAVE TO GO ONTO A HIGHWAY BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. AFTER THEY FIGURED OUT WHAT WAS WRONG, IT TOOK ABOUT 2 WEEKS TO GET THE PART. IT WAS VERY FRIGHTENING FOR THE CAR TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION, ESPECIALLY WHEN TURNING LEFT! THE CAR WOULD SIMPLY NOT START, WOULDN'T EVEN TRY TO TURN OVER, THE MESSAGE BOARD WOULD SAY SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC THE OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS IN THE CAR WORKED FINE, THE CAR COULDN'T BE "JUMPED" EITHER. AFTER A FEW HOURS IT WOULD START UP FINE. TOOK THE CAR TO THE SERVICE CENTER AND THEY REPROGRAMMED THE KEYS AND NOW A YEAR LATER I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. SINCE THE CENTER STATES THEY CANNOT GET THE CAR TO MIMIC THIS PROBLEM WHEN THE CAR IS AT THE CENTER THEY HAVEN'T FIXED ANYTHING. FIRST TIME THE ENGINE QUIT TWICE AT STOP SIGNS. SINCE THEN IT HAS STALLED AT LEAST FIVE TIMES, THE LAST ONE ON A FREEWAY AT 60 MILES PER HOUR DURING RUSH HOUR. SINCE THIS LAST INCIDENT IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES CAUSING US TO NOT BE ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR EVEN A FEW BLOCKS WITHOUT IT HAPPENING 3-4 TIMES. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK WHEN MY 2010 MERCURY MILAN LOST POWER. FIRST THE ENGINE BEGAN MISSING AND RUNNING ROUGH, AND THEN THE ENGINE STALLED AND THE RPM DROPPED TO IDLE SPEED (IDLING ROUGH). AFTER WAITING A MINUTE OR SO, I RESTARTED THE ENGINE, AND IT STARTED ALMOST NORMALLY (IT TOOK A FEW MORE CRANKS OF THE STARTING MOTOR FOR THE ENGINE TO START). THEN I DROVE TO WORK AND ASIDE FOR SEEMING TO MISS FROM TIME TO TIME, THE ENGINE RAN NORMALLY. THERE WAS NO WRENCH LIGHT VISIBLE ON THE DASHBOARD. HOWEVER, THAT AFTERNOON, ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK, THE PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN AS DESCRIBED ABOVE. THE ENGINE SEEMED TO BE RUNNING NORMALLY, THEN STARTED MISSING, AND STALLED. THE 'WRENCH LIGHT' CAME ON. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD, TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, AND THEN RE-STARTED THE ENGINE. THERE WAS NO 'WRENCH LIGHT' AND THE ENGINE APPEARED TO RUN NORMALLY. THIS SERIES OF EVENTS HAPPENED THREE MORE TIMES BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR HOME AND PARK IT IN THE DRIVEWAY. THIS ISSUE HAPPENED ON JULY 9, 2013. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY HAD MALFUNCTIONED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS NO LONGER WENT, AND I HAD POWER WHEN I PUT IT IN GEAR. I TOOK MY CHANCES, AND WENT AHEAD AND DROVE IT WORK, HOPING IT WAS JUST A FLUKE, BUT DECIDED I WOULD INVESTIGATE TO SEE IF OTHERS HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE. I CAME ACROSS THE ENTIRE LISTING OF OTHERS WHO WERE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE SO THOUGHT I BETTER IMMEDIATELY GET IT TO THE DEALER AND PUT ON DIAGNOSTICS. I EXPLAINED TO THEM WHAT I THOUGHT THE ISSUE MIGHT BE, THE THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM I HAD READ ABOUT. THEY PUT IT ON DIAGNOSTICS, BUT THE ONLY CODE WHICH CAME UP WAS A P0456, SAYING I NEEDED TO REPLACE A VALVE--THIS CODE IS INDICATED BY THE "SERVICE ENGINE" LIGHT, AND NOT THE "WRENCH". HE SAID THEY COULD FIND NO CODES FOR THE "WRENCH" LIGHT. I TOLD HIM THAT WAS STRANGE, BECAUSE THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON WHEN I LOST POWER. HE TOLD ME THE P0456 COULD MAKE THE CAR HAVE THE SAME TYPES OF ISSUES. I TOLD HIM I HAD BEEN DRIVING WITH THE P0456 CODE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, AND IT HAD NEVER AFFECTED THE PERFORMANCE OF THE VEHICLE, SO I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT WOULD DO IT NOW. I FEEL LIKE THIS IS THE SAME TYPE OF ISSUES OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING, BUT THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME PREVIOUSLY WHEN THEY SAW THE THROTTLE BODY ISSUE, THERE WAS ALWAYS A CODE. I TOOLED THE CAR BACK HOME AND PARKED IT AND STARTED DRIVING MY TRUCK. I HAD MY MECHANIC BUDDY BRING HIS MAC TOOL SCANNER TO MY HOUSE AND WE HOOKED IT TO THE CAR AND HE WAS UNABLE TO PULL THE CODE. SO WE DROVE THE CAR WITH THE SCANNER HOOKED UP AND WAITED FOR THE CAR TO ACT UP AGAIN. IT ACTED UP AGAIN ON THE HIGHWAY. WE PULLED OVER AND GOT A CODE SAYING THE "TAC IS STUCK OPEN". THE CAR BEHAVES AS IF IT WAS SUDDENLY PUT INTO NEUTRAL. WHEN YOU HIT THE GAS THE ENGINE REVS, BUT THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT ENGAGE. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 45 MPH AND FELT A JERK MOTION AND LOST ENGINE RESPONSES TO GAS PEDAL. THE CHECK ENGINE AND THE WRENCH LIGHTS CAME ON. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY 60 MPH WITHOUT WARNING THE WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. I HAD NO ENGINE CONTROL. TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE WRENCH LIGHT TURNED OFF AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE NORMALLY FOR 5 MILES BEFORE THE WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME. CONNECTED A SCAN TOOL TO THE OBD AND NO CODES WERE PRESENT. THE FOLLOWING DAY DRIVING WITH THE SCAN TOOL CONNECTED AT 40 MPH THE SAME SYMPTOMS OCCURRED. THE SCAN TOOL REGISTERED CODE P2111 THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM STUCK OPEN. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO PULL SAFELY. MENTIONED THE ISSUE TO THE LOCAL LINCOLN DEALER AND WAS TOLD THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. WHILE TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF 70MPH AN HEADING SOUTH ON I69 IN MY 2010 MERCURY MILAN 2.5L PREMIER, MY VEHICLE JERKED AND STARTED SHAKING WITH MY RPM'S JUMPING FROM 800 TO 1100. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON AND SO DID THE WRENCH LIGHT. I TURNED ON MY HAZARDS AND MADE MY WAY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT AND THE WARNING LIGHTS TURNED OFF. I STARTED ON THE ROAD AGAIN AND AT ABOUT 45 MPH IT DID THE SAME THING. I GOT OFF AT THE NEXT EXIT AND WENT TO AUTOZONE TO GET THE CODE PULLED. IT WAS CODE P2111, THROTTLE CIRCUIT IN THE OPEN POSITION. I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH AND FOUND OUT THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THE MERCURY MARINER, FORD FOCUS, AND FORD ESCAPE WITH THE SAME ENGINE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY LITERALLY LAUGHED AT ME AND INFORMED ME THAT THE THROTTLE BODY IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER AND THERE ARE CURRENTLY 7,000 OF THESE ORDERS AWAITING TO BE FILLED. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THE MANUFACTURER OF THE THROTTLE BODY AND FORD ARE CURRENTLY TRYING TO GIVE AN UPDATED PART NUMBER WHICH MEANS THAT THEY ARE MAKING A NEW PART TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THIS LEAVES ME WITH A THREE YEAR OLD CAR COMPLETELY USELESS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO MINIMIZE USING THE CAR, BUT ON JUNE 15TH I HAD TO GO TO MY NIECE AND NEPHEW'S DANCE RECITAL IN SOUTH NJ. WHILE DRIVING HOME ON 295 (MAJOR HIGHWAY) GOING AROUND 65 THE CAR DIED AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO PROCEED AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR, BUT DIDN'T MAKE IT HOME AGAIN WITHOUT IT HAPPENING ANOTHER TIME. I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN AT AN INTERSECTION LIGHT AND THE ENGINE DIED. THANK GOD IT WASN'T A WIDER INTERSECTION OR I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO COAST THROUGH. WHEN I RESTARTED IT, IT TOOK LONGER TO ACTUALLY START. I DROVE FOR ANOTHER 5 MINUTES AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. IN APRIL OF 2013 I LEFT WORK AND GOT UP TO 45 MPH WHEN THE CAR JERKED AND THEN LOST ALL POWER. I FLOORED THE GAS AND THE ENGINE DID NOT RESPOND. WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND NOTICED A WRENCH ICON LIGHT. I STOPPED THE CAR AND PUT IT IN PARK THEN GAVE IT SOME GAS WITH NO RESPONSE AT ALL. THE CAR WAS JUST BARELY IDLING. I SHUT IT OFF AND RESTARTED IT, TOOK A FEW SECONDS LONGER THAN USUAL FOR IT TO START BUT IT SEEMED TO RUN FINE AFTER THAT AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS NOW OFF. CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IF IT'S RUNNING OK TO JUST KEEP AN EYE ON IT, IT MIGHT NOT REPEAT. I NOTICED THE CAR WOULD OCCASIONALLY START JERKING LIKE A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER ON MAY 28, 2013 AND THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. THEY SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE BUT THEY HAD NONE IN STOCK AND WERE BACK-ORDER. ON JUNE 7TH I WAS DRIVING AND THE CAR AGAIN LOST ALL POWER, PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED. CAR STARTED BUT WAS JERKING A LOT MORE. NEXT DAY IT LOST POWER AGAIN AS I PULLED AWAY FROM A STOP LIGHT. PULLED OVER AGAIN, RESTARTED, PUT IN GEAR AND THE THROTTLE DID NOT RESPOND. I WENT THROUGH THIS FOR 6 RESTARTS UNTIL THE THROTTLE WOULD RESPOND. THIS TIME THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND REMAINED ON UNTIL IT WENT TO THE DEALER TODAY. THE DEALER PUT MY NAME ON A WAIT LIST FOR A NEW THROTTLE BODY AND SAID IT WOULD BE 3-6 WEEKS UNTIL IT CAME IN. STOPPED AT ADVANCE AUTO PARTS SINCE IT WAS EARLY EVENING, THEY PULLED DTC P2111 "THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM STUCK OPEN" FROM CAR'S COMPUTER AND HE SAYS THE THROTTLE VALUE IS STICKING. SCHEDULED SERVICE AT WORLD FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED JUST FOUR MONTHS PRIOR. I WAS TOLD THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED REPLACING "THIS IS VERY COMMON, WE REPLACE THEM ALL THE TIME" HE SAID. I PURCHASED A POWERTRAIN EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH THE CAR THAT STATES IT COVERS THE "THROTTLE VALVE" AMONG ITS COVERED PARTS BUT THE SERVICE MAN FIRST SAYS THAT'S DIFFERENT THAN THE "THROTTLE BODY" (MY UNDERSTANDING IS THE THROTTLE VALVE IS THE PLATE INSIDE THE THROTTLE BODY THAT OPENS/CLOSES CONTROLLING AIRFLOW TO THE MANIFOLD, IT THAT IS "STUCK OPEN", IT SHOULD BE COVERED). HE THEN SAYS HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT A "THROTTLE VALUE" IS AND SAYS IT WILL COST APPROX $350 TO REPAIR. ON TUESDAY, IT STARTED UP AND ONE MILE FROM THE HOUSE, IT CLUNKED OUT AGAIN AND LOST POWER. AGAIN I CALLED AAA TO TOW ME TO THE DEALER. I GUESS BECAUSE IT WAS A RECENT OCCURRENCE, THE CODE SHOWED UP IN THE DIAGNOSTIC SO THEY CLAIM IT IS FIXED BY REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. THE DEALER STATED NO CODES WOULD SHOW AFTER RUNNING DIFFERENT DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,000.

2010 MERCURY MILAN ENGINE SUDDENLY DIED ON AN URBAN INTERSTATE WITH SIMILAR SYMPTOMS OF RUNNING OUT OF FUEL, AND HAS DIED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE. WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS ENGINE DIED, BUT NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR CODES APPEAR FOR DIAGNOSIS. MUST SHUT OFF ENGINE, THEN ABLE TO RESTART ENGINE. ENGINE DIES RANDOMLY AND IS NOT AFFECTED BY MOISTURE, TEMP, OR TIME DRIVEN. CONDITION IS HAZARDOUS ANYTIME ACCELERATION AND CONTROL ARE CRITICAL. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY NOBODY HAS DONE ANYTHING ABOUT THIS THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM. IF YOU LOOK ONLINE AND YOU WILL SEE HOW MANY COMPLAINTS THERE ARE ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. I WOULD LIKE THIS TO BE ON THE RECALL LIST SO ALL OF THE ONES THAT OWN THIS CAR WILL NOT HAVE TO PAY ANYWHERE FROM 300-500 TO GET IT FIXED. THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM I WAS DRIVING ON I295 GOING ABOUT 6MPH AND I LOST ALL THROTTLE CONTROL , I'M IN THE FAR LEFT LANE AND HAD NO WHERE TO GO SO I'M COASTING TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER AND ALL MOST GOT HIT 4 TIMES. THE PROBLEM STARTED ALMOST A YEAR AGO BUT DID NOT SEEM TO OCCUR ALL THE TIME. FROM TAKE OFF, THE CAR WOULD STALL AND THEN RE-ENGAGE WITH GUSTO. UP UNTIL THE OTHER DAY THE CAR LOST ALL POWER BUT WAS IDLING. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROADWAY, ATTEMPTED TO LISTEN TO WHAT I HEARD AND THOUGHT IT WAS A BAD GAS ISSUE AND NOTICED THE WRENCH AND ENGINE LIGHTS WERE ON. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN RESTARTED TO HAVE FULL GAS PEDAL RESPONSE BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. I PROCEEDED DOWN THE ROAD TO THE INTERSTATE BUT DECIDED TO GET SOME FUEL (3/8 OF A TANK EXISTED) AND SOME FUEL ADDITIVE. THE CAR STOPPED AND STARTED WITHOUT AVAIL, AS I ENTERED THE INTERSTATE 30 RAMP THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AGAIN. I PULLED TO THE SHOULDER AND REPEATED THE PREVIOUS RESTART. I CALLED LANDERS FORD IN BENTON, AR AND TOLD THEM THE ISSUE AND WOULD BE BRINGING THE CAR INTO THE FACILITY. NOT WANTING TO GET BACK ONTO THE INTERSTATE AND POSSIBLY CAUSING A WRECK OR TRAFFIC BLOCKAGE, I DROVE USING THE OUTER ROAD, THE ISSUE OCCURRED AT LEAST TWICE WHILE EN-ROUTE. THIS IS A CONTINUING PROBLEM AS MY GOOGLE SEARCH REVEALED AND COULD BE A MAJOR HIGHWAY SAFETY ISSUE FOR SOMEONE LIVING WITHIN THE MAJOR AREAS OF AMERICA. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD, THE ATTORNEY GENERAL, AND THE BBB. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE A COUPLE OF WEEKENDS AGO AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CRUISE CONTROL SHUT OFF AND I HAD NO THROTTLE RESPONSE. I PULLED OVER AND THE ENGINE SPUTTERED VERY BADLY. AFTER TURNING THE ENGINE ON AND OFF, I MADE IT TO MY DESTINATION. WHEN I WAS COMING BACK ON SUNDAY, THIS PRECEDED TO HAPPEN TWO MORE TIMES TO ME. ONCE WHEN I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF A HEAVY TRAFFIC LOCATION. I COULDN'T ACCELERATE OR DO ANYTHING BESIDES BREAK AND AVOID AN ACCIDENT, WHICH WAS VERY CLOSE. I AM LUCKY THAT NO ONE GOT HURT BUT IT BECAME VERY EVIDENT THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE THROTTLE IN THIS CAR. AFTER RESEARCHING IT MORE, I STARTING READING SOME OF THESE SAME COMPLAINTS, AND THE FORD MECHANIC I TOOK IT TO EVEN SAID THIS ISN'T THE FIRST OR EVEN THE SECOND TIME HE HAS HEARD OF THIS FAILING ON THE 2010 MILAN. HE CLAIMED THAT WAS DUE TO THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BOTTLE AND BELIEVED IT WAS FROM A DEFECTIVE UNIT ON MOST UNITS (GOOD TO KNOW THE PROBLEM EXCEPT IT WASN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, NOT RECALLED, AND COST ME $500). AFTER HEARING THIS, THERE IS NO WAY THAT THIS CAN NOT BE RECALLED AND FIXED ON EVERY MILAN THAT HAS THIS SAME UNIT WITH THE SAME SERIAL NUMBER. I DON'T KNOW IF ANY ACCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED DIRECTLY FROM THIS PROBLEM BUT I WAS CLOSE TO ONE THAT DEFINITELY WOULD HAVE COST SOME PEOPLE SOME LIVES. I WAS FIRST IN LINE AT A RED LIGHT ON A 2-LANE HIGHWAY. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I ACCELERATED AND HALFWAY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION THE CAR "LURCHED" AND LOST POWER. THE CAR DIDN'T DIE BUT THERE WAS NO RESPONSE IN THE GAS PEDAL AND A WRENCH SYMBOL APPEARED IN THE DASH. I MADE IT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND TO THE SHOULDER AT IDLE SPEED (WITH A LINE OF CARS BEHIND ME). I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED IT OFF FOR A MINUTE. IT RESTARTED OK, THE WRENCH WAS GONE AND THE CAR RAN FINE. I CONSIDERED IT A FLUKE UNTIL A WEEK LATER WHEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED, EXCEPT THAT I WAS TRAVELING AT 70 MPH IN THE INSIDE LANE OF THE SAME HIGHWAY. LUCKILY THERE WAS ROOM TO CHANGE LANES WHILE DECELERATING AND I PULLED TO THE SHOULDER. AGAIN, IT RESTARTED FINE AFTER I TURNED IT OFF, AND THE WRENCH WAS GONE. I TOOK THE CAR FOR SERVICE AT A FORD DEALER BECAUSE LOSING POWER IN TRAFFIC IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND WHO KNOWS WHEN AND WHERE IT MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN. THE TECH FOUND A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY AND REPLACED IT AT A COST OF ABOUT $350 PARTS/LABOR. OF COURSE, WE ARE JUST OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD AT 41,000 MILES. *JS
