WHILE DRIVING ON A STRAIGHT FLAT HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH THE THROTTLE SUDDENLY REVVED UP AND REMAINED REVVED UP AS I REMOVED FOOT FROM GAS PEDAL VISUALLY CHECKED THAT IT WAS IN DRIVE AND THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WASN'T ON, AND IT WAS IN DRIVE AND CRUISE WAS T TURNED ON. I TAPPED THE GAS PEDAL, THEN TAPPED 3 QUICK TIMES, TAPPED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND ABOUT 2-3 SECONDS AFTER I TAPPED THE BRAKE PEDAL IT QUIT REVVING UP AND IT WENT BACK TO NORMAL, DECELERATED BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE MY FOOT ON EITHER PEDAL. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT AND HAVEN'T HAD ANY OTHER PROBLEMS.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 5 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO PARK IN A PARKING LOT, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATE INDEPENDENTLY. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A LIGHT POST THEN THE VEHICLE VIOLENTLY WENT BACKWARDS DUE TO THE IMPACT APPROXIMATELY 6 FEET. THE ENGINE AND THE RADIATOR WERE PUNCTURED DUE TO THE IMPACT CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BE UNDRIVABLE. THE CONTACT WENT TO A DOCTOR WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED SHE SUSTAINED NECK AND MINOR BRUISING. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACTS RESIDENCE. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. AFTERWARDS, THE VEHICLE MAY BE RESTARTED AND THE WRENCH LIGHT DISAPPEARS AND THE VEHICLE DRIVES NORMALLY FOR A FEW MORE MILES. THEN, THE ISSUE COMES BACK AGAIN. TO GET ANYWHERE FROM A TO B, THE VEHICLE WILL NEED TO BE PULLED OVER TO SAFETY AND SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED EACH TIME THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON AND THE VEHICLE BEGINS TO DECELERATE.

IT WAS CODE P2112 , WITCH IS THE TROTTLE ACUTATOR MODULE !! AFTER RESETING THE OBD CODE IT WAS WORKING FINE ON THE DRIVEWAY. I'LL TAKE IT FOR A TEST DRIVE LATER. IT SEEMS CLEAR THAT A PROBLEM EXISTS WITH THE TROTTLE ACUTATOR ON THE TROTTLE BODY !!! A DESIGN FLAW IS VERY POSSIBLE, AND IT PRESENTS A DANGER WHEN DRIVING ON THE ROAD WITH A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND SPEED. A RECAL SHOULD BE IN THE WORKS FOR FORD !!! I WENT TO FORD AND THEY TOLD ME MY THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, SO I DID THAT. APPROXIMATELY A YEAR LATER THE SAME THING STARTED TO OCCUR. I TOOK IT BACK AND THEY SAID THEY DID AN UPDATE, HOWEVER ABOUT TWO MONTHS LATER THE SAME ISSUE OCCURED. I TOOK IT BACK TO FORD BECAUSE I AM UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY KEPT MY CAR FOR 4 DAYS AND SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND THE ISSUE. RECENTLY NOW ONLY THE BATTERY AND THE OIL CANISTER COMES ON, BUT WHEN IT STALLS OUT NOW IT JERKS REALLY HARD GOING FORWARD THEN STALLS OUT. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR. THE AFFECTED VEHICLES HAVE A STEERING TORQUE SENSOR THAT MAY NOT BE ABLE TO PROPERLY DETECT DRIVER STEERING INPUT. I CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY REGARDING MY VEHICLE 2010 MERCURY MILAN PREMIER BECAUSE I HAD TO HAVE MY POWER STEERING REPLACED ON MY VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO CALL FORD AND INFORM THEM THAT MY CAR SHOULD BE LISTED IN THE RECALL. WHEN I CALLED I WAS TRANSFERRED TO CUSTOMER RELATIONS. THE WOMAN WAS VERY RUDE AND KEPT REPEATING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER. MY CAR STALLED SUDDENLY IN MODERATE 35 MPH TRAFFIC ON 8/16/14. I WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED WHILE I HAD TO RESTART MY CAR AS THERE WAS NOWHERE TO PULL OVER. ON 8/17/14, MY CAR STALLED SUDDENLY AFTER TRAVELING .5 MILE FROM HOME (AT APPROX. 20 MPH), SO I RETURNED TO MY HOUSE. ON 8/18 AT 7 AM, I SPOKE TO SHEEHY FORD IN RICHMOND, VA, AND WAS GIVEN AN APPOINTMENT FOR THROTTLE BODY REPAIR TO OCCUR ON 8/19 UNDER THEIR "CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM" 13B17. I WAS TOLD THAT I WAS NOT IN DANGER OF GETTING STRANDED, SO I HAD MY HUSBAND FOLLOW ME TO WORK ON 8/18. THE CAR STALLED AGAIN ON 8/18 WHILE TRAVELING AT 40 MPH. RATHER THAN REPLACE THE FAULTY PART WHICH THEY DID HAVE IN STOCK, FORD MERELY RECALIBRATED THE POWERTRAIN SINCE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOT LIT WHEN I DROPPED OFF THE CAR FOR SERVICE, EVEN THOUGH I NOTIFIED THEM TWICE OF THE MULTIPLE INCIDENTS (VIA PHONE ON 8/18 AND IN PERSON ON 8/19). I WAS MERGING ONTO A HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 60 MPH. MY CAR SUDDENLY WENT INTO AN IDLE AND THE WRENCH ICON CAME ON IN THE INDICATOR DASH. DRIVING THRU TOWN AT APPROX 30 MPH THE VEHICLES WARNING LIGHTS FLASHED FOR CHECK ENGINE AND THE THROTTLE CONTROL WARNING (WRENCH) ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO ANY ACTIVATION OF THE GAS PEDDLE AND DRIFTED TO IDLE POWER. NOT UNDERSTANDING WHAT WENT WRONG, I SHUT THE CAR DOWN AND RESTARTED IT TO CLEAR THE FAULTS. I RE-ENTERED TRAFFIC AND PROCEEDED ABOUT 50 FT BEFORE IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I PROCEEDED TO FOLLOW THE SAME RESET PROCESS AND WAS ABLE TO LIMP THE CAR HOME. THE CAR WAS TOWED AWAY AND REPAIRED BY REPLACING THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. RESEARCH SHOWS THAT SINCE 2004 FORD HAS KNOWN THAT THIS PROBLEM EXISTS AND THAT THE ENGINE DESIGN DEFAULT IS TO BRING THE CAR DOWN TO IDLE POWER. INTERNET CHAT BOARDS HAVE STORIES OF THIS HAPPENING ON HIGHWAYS AT HIGH RATES OF SPEED. I WAS TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED (70MPH) WHEN MY ENGINE BEGAN TO "STALL OUT" ON ME CAUSING A RAPID DECELERATION. I WOULD SAY IT STALLED, BUT IT DID NOT 100% CUTOUT, RATHER IT WENT INTO THE LOWEST LIMP MODE ON THE ENGINE. LUCKILY, SINCE IT WAS A BUSY TIME OF NIGHT (APPROXIMATELY 6PM), I WAS IN THE RIGHT HAND LAND AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF BEFORE BEING REAR ENDED...THOUGH IT WOULD ALMOST INEVITABLY HAPPENED HAD I BEEN IN ANY OTHER LANE. I WAS NEAR AN EXIT AND COASTED SLOWLY IN THE LIMP MODE AND MADE IT TO A PARKING LOT, WHERE I TURNED OFF MY CAR AND POPPED THE HOOD TO EXAMINE THE ISSUE FURTHER. WE THEN WENT ABOUT OUR DAY AND AS WE WERE HEADING BACK TO MY NEPHEWS FOOTBALL GAME, WE WERE DRIVING DOWN 4 LANES OF TRAFFIC AND I HAD JUST PASSED A SLOWER MOVING VEHICLE WHEN THE CAR JERKED ABRUPTLY AGAIN AND I LOST ALL POWER. I PUT MY TURN SIGNAL ON AND WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF A SIDE ROAD. THE WRENCH CAME ON AGAIN. IT HAPPEN THE NEXT DAY AS WE WERE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE BACK HOME. WE TRIED TO DRIVE THE CAR BACK HOME IN MANUAL AND IT WORKED JUST FINE. I GOT OUR CAR INTO OUR LOCAL CAR DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY THAT NEEDED REPLACED. SO AFTER FORKING OUT $375, IT HASN'T DONE ANYTHING SINCE. THE REASON I'M FILING THIS COMPLAINT IS THAT IF THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD'VE ACTED UP WHILE WE WERE TRAVELING THROUGH THE HILLY ROADS IN CINCINNATI, WE WOULD'VE BEEN IN A SEVERE CAR ACCIDENT. THIS PROBLEM IS A HUGE CONCERN AS YOU LOSE ALL CONTROL OF THE CAR. YOU HAVE NO GAS AND THE RPM'S JUST QUIVER ON THE DASH. TOOK THE CAR TO MY TRUSTED MECHANIC ( AFTER SECOND OCCURRENCE), THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. AFTER THE THIRD OCCURRENCE I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY KNEW WHAT THE ISSUE WAS RIGHT AWAY AND FIXED IT IN LESS THAN AN HOUR AND PROCEEDED TO CHARGE ME $171.00 FOR THE THROTTLE BODY AND $330.00 IN LABOR FOR AN HOUR OF WORK. PLEASE KEEP INVESTIGATING AS THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. I WAS ON A HIGHWAY TWICE AND WAS FORTUNATE TO GET INTO A MIDDLE TURN LANE BEFORE BEING REAR ENDED. IT WAS A CLOSE CALL AND VERY SCARY AS I WAS POWERLESS TO DO ANYTHING BUT STOP THE CAR ON A VERY BUSY ROAD AND PRAY TO NOT GET IN AN ACCIDENT. DRIVING TO WORK ONE MORNING MY CAR APPEARED TO STALL WITHOUT WARNING ON THE INCLINE OF A VIADUCT. IT SLOWED DRAMATICALLY WITHOUT ME BRAKING, SO THERE WERE NO BRAKE LIGHTS TO WARN OTHER DRIVERS. THROTTLE BODY DEFECT -- THE PROBLEM BEGAN JULY 14 AND HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. IT WAS FINALLY FIXED BY JULY 31. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE POWER, MOSTLY AFTER STOPPING AT AN INTERSECTION AND MAKING A TURN TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT. IT HAPPENED ONCE WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT AND SLOWING DOWN FOR A SCHOOL ZONE. IN MOST CASES, I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURN OFF THE CAR, AND RESTART. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON IN EACH INCIDENT. THANKFULLY, I DID NOT HAVE TO GO ONTO A HIGHWAY BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. AFTER THEY FIGURED OUT WHAT WAS WRONG, IT TOOK ABOUT 2 WEEKS TO GET THE PART. IT WAS VERY FRIGHTENING FOR THE CAR TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION, ESPECIALLY WHEN TURNING LEFT! THIS IS A POTENTIALLY VERY DANGEROUS DEFECT, AND THESE CARS SHOULD BE RECALLED SO THAT THE COMPANY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. MOST OF MY DRIVING IS DONE AT VILLAGE SPEED LIMITS OF 25 TO 30 MPH. EVEN AT THOSE SPEEDS, IT IS VERY FRIGHTENING FOR THE CAR TO SUDDENLY STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. I AM STILL VERY HESITANT TO TAKE THE CAR OUT ON THE HIGHWAY. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THIS CAR ON THE NJ GARDEN STATE PARKWAY AT 65 MPH IN THE EXPRESS LANES WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED RUNNING BAD AND LOST POWER. THIS WAS A DANGEROUS CONDITION TO LOSE POWER AT THAT SPEED. SHE PULLED THE CAR OVER TO SIDE, SHUT OFF ENGINE, THEN RESTARTED AND WAS ABLE TO MOVE VEHICLE ABOUT A MILE AND GET OFF THE PARKWAY AT EXIT 117 TO ROUTE 35 SOUTH. THE CAR AGAIN STARTED TO RUN BAD AND SHE PULLED INTO A FORD DEALERSHIP NEAR THIS EXIT. THE FORD DEALER HAD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY WHICH WENT BAD. THIS TOOK 5 DAYS AS THERE IS A NATIONAL SHORTAGE FOR THIS PART.#DS7Z9E926D. IT IS EVIDENT THAT FORD HAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THIS PART BREAKING DOWN ON THOUSANDS OF CARS AS I SEE OTHER CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET. I CONTACTED FORD CORP. IN DETROIT AND WAS TOLD NOT UNDER WARRANTY ON MY CAR. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. I WORRY THAT THIS PART IS DEFECTIVE, WON'T LAST LONG AND WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 58 MPH ON 7/20/13 THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, THE CAR LOST POWER. THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING BUT THERE WAS NO REACTION IN POWER WHEN PUSHING ON GAS PEDAL. PULLED THE CAR OVER, PUT IN PARK, IT WAS STILL RUNNING, WITH A SLIGHT SHAKE, TURNED CAR OFF WAITED SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE STARTING. WHEN STARTED THE CAR RAN FINE AND THE LIGHT WAS OFF. TWO DAYS LATER, 7/22/13, THIS HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE I WAS MAKING A TURN FROM A STOP SIGN. SAME THING PULLED OVER, RESTARTED, LIGHT WAS OFF, DROVE FINE. FEW DAYS LATER, 7/25/13, CAR WENT IN FOR OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION AND I HAD THEM SEE WHAT THEY COULD FIND OUT. UP UNTIL THIS POINT THE CAR HAS RAN FINE, NO ISSUES, AND I LOVE THE CAR. I WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE AND IS ON BACK ORDER FOR ONE-TWO MONTHS. I THEN DRIVE THE CAR WITH NO ISSUES FOR SEVERAL DAYS. ONCE AGAIN ON 7/30/13 THE SAME THING HAPPENS THIS TIME AT ABOUT 35 MPH, IS FINE ONCE STARTED BACK UP. SAME THING ON 8/1/13. ON 8/4/13 I WAS ON MY WAY HOME GOING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH AND THIS HAPPENS, I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD QUICK ENOUGH THAT IT DIDN'T INTERFERE WITH THE TRAFFIC BEHIND ME. I GOT DOWN THE ROAD AND WAS TRYING TO TURN ONTO MY ROAD AND THIS HAPPENS AGAIN AND I AM NOW IN MIDDLE OF LANE FOR ONCOMING TRAFFIC, I MANAGE TO GET IT GOING AND FINISH TURN JUST FOR IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN AND I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BY PERSON TURNING ONTO ROAD. I THEN LET THE CAR SIT FOR SEVERAL HOURS BEFORE I HAD TO RUN AN ERRAND, I WAS ONLY ABLE TO MAKE IT THREE HOUSES DOWN BEFORE THIS HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE, I AM LUCK IN THAT I LIVE IN A RURAL AREA, BUT THERE IS ENOUGH TRAFFIC OR WHEN GOING TO WORK, THAT THIS COULD CAUSE A BAD ACCIDENT CAUSING INJURY NOT ONLY TO MYSELF OR ANOTHER DRIVER BUT TO THE CHILDREN IN MY CAR. *TR

IF ENGINE DIES REPEATEDLY, ENGINE SYMBOL ILLUMINATES AND CODES P2111 AND P0685 HAVE BEEN FOUND. ENGINE NOW DIES BOTH AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND AT IDLE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON SO WE TOOK IT IN TO HAVE A COMPUTER HOOKED UP TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD TURNED OFF SO THEY WERE UNSURE. SINCE THIS LAST INCIDENT IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES CAUSING US TO NOT BE ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR EVEN A FEW BLOCKS WITHOUT IT HAPPENING 3-4 TIMES. DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT ABOUT 70 MPH, THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER ON THE SHOULDER, ALTHOUGH THERE WERE A COUPLE CLOSE CALLS SINCE IT WAS RUSH HOUR. THE ENGINE STUTTERED SOME BUT DID NOT DIE, EVEN THOUGH I COULD NOT ACCELERATE OR GO FASTER THAN 3MPH OR SO. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, WAITED ABOUT 20 SECONDS, THEN TURNED IT BACK ON. WHEN TURNING IT BACK ON, IT TOOK LONGER THAN USUAL TO TURN OVER, BUT STARTED, AND THE WRENCH LIGHT DID NOT COME BACK ON. I CONTINUED MY DRIVE HOME LIKE NORMAL AND THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS. I WENT OUT THE SAME EVENING ON A 15 MINUTE DRIVE, AND THE SAME INCIDENT HAPPENED TWICE. ONCE WHEN STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT, ONCE GOING 30MPH. AFTER I MADE IT TO MY DESTINATION, AND TRIED GOING HOME ABOUT 1.5 HOURS LATER, ON THE SAME 15 MINUTE DRIVE, I HAD NO PROBLEMS. I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH AND FOUND OUT THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THE MERCURY MARINER, FORD FOCUS, AND FORD ESCAPE WITH THE SAME ENGINE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY LITERALLY LAUGHED AT ME AND INFORMED ME THAT THE THROTTLE BODY IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER AND THERE ARE CURRENTLY 7,000 OF THESE ORDERS AWAITING TO BE FILLED. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THE MANUFACTURER OF THE THROTTLE BODY AND FORD ARE CURRENTLY TRYING TO GIVE AN UPDATED PART NUMBER WHICH MEANS THAT THEY ARE MAKING A NEW PART TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THIS LEAVES ME WITH A THREE YEAR OLD CAR COMPLETELY USELESS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE FORD DEALER ON FRIDAY MAY 31ST & THEY SAID THERE WERE NO ALERTS ON THE CAR, THAT THEY WOULD DO A SOFTWARE UPGRADE THAT WOULD HOPEFULLY FIX THE ISSUE. THE RECEIPT THEY GAVE ME LISTED THAT A THROTTLE BODY WAS NEEDED, & IT WAS ON BACK ORDER. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO MINIMIZE USING THE CAR, BUT ON JUNE 15TH I HAD TO GO TO MY NIECE AND NEPHEW'S DANCE RECITAL IN SOUTH NJ. WHILE DRIVING HOME ON 295 (MAJOR HIGHWAY) GOING AROUND 65 THE CAR DIED AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO PROCEED AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR, BUT DIDN'T MAKE IT HOME AGAIN WITHOUT IT HAPPENING ANOTHER TIME. I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN AT AN INTERSECTION LIGHT AND THE ENGINE DIED. THANK GOD IT WASN'T A WIDER INTERSECTION OR I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO COAST THROUGH. AT THIS POINT THIS CAR IS UNUSABLE AND IS A DEATH TRAP WAITING TO HAPPEN. I CALLED ANOTHER DEALER, AND THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER THERE AS WELL. THIS IS CLEARLY A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODIES IN THE 2010 MILAN THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW THIS PROBLEM WILL BE RECTIFIED. THE PROOF IS IN THE FACT THAT THEY CANNOT MAKE THE PART FAST ENOUGH TO FIX THE BROKEN CARS. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH. WITHOUT WARNING THE CAR FELT AS IF HAD JUMPED OUT OF GEAR, THERE WAS NO THROTTLE RESPONSE. THE CAR BEGAN TO SLOW RAPIDLY, A FOLLOWING VEHICLE HAD TO AVOID REAR-ENDING ME. THE CAR JERKING AND HESITATING WAS ABLE TO BE GRADUALLY MOVED TO A LOCATION WHERE I COULD EXIT THE ROAD. THE CAR WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE ACCELERATOR AT ALL. THE ORANGE WRENCH SYMBOL APPEARED IN MY DASH CONSOLE. AFTER THINKING ABOUT IT FOR A COUPLE MINUTES, I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, RESTARTED, THE PROBLEM HAD CORRECTED ITSELF. THE PRIOR DAY, WHILE BRAKING BEHIND A CAR, FOOT ON BRAKE, NEITHER FOOT NEAR OR ON THROTTLE, THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD WITH THE THROTTLE OVERPOWERING THE BRAKE FOR A SECOND OR TWO CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO APPLY THE BRAKE MORE AGGRESSIVELY. I DID NOT THINK ABOUT THIS TOO MUCH, BUT AFTER THIS OCCURRENCE THIS MORNING I WONDER IF THE TWO EVENTS ARE RELATED. I CALLED THE DEALER, WHILE HE WOULD NOT CONFIRM THE FACT, IT SEEMS TO BE A RECURRING PROBLEM ON THIS ISSUE, A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THE ISSUE. I SUPPOSE THE MOST TELLING POINT IS THAT IF THE PART MOST LIKELY TO BE A PROBLEM, IS INDEED BAD, AND DOES NOT RESPOND TO JUST A CLEANING, THEY CANNOT REPLACE IT BECAUSE THE PART IS ON BACKORDER. WHILE AT HIGHWAY SPEED USING CRUISE CONTROL ON A SLIGHT UPGRADE, ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND RETURNED TO IDLE AND WRENCH WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. I WOULD CHALLENGE THE PRESIDENT OF FORD TO ATTEMPT TO LIMP THIS VEHICLE JUST 5 MILES ON ANY BUSY ROAD IN THE NATION IN THIS MODE. APPARENTLY, JUDGING BY MY RESEARCH, IT IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM AND WIDESPREAD. AS OF RIGHT NOW THE VEHICLE IS UNUSABLE, SINCE THE PARTS ARE ON 'INDEFINITE BACK-ORDER' AWAITING SOME SORT OF RELEASE OF PARTS. SCHEDULED SERVICE AT WORLD FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED JUST FOUR MONTHS PRIOR. I WAS TOLD THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED REPLACING "THIS IS VERY COMMON, WE REPLACE THEM ALL THE TIME" HE SAID. I PURCHASED A POWERTRAIN EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH THE CAR THAT STATES IT COVERS THE "THROTTLE VALVE" AMONG ITS COVERED PARTS BUT THE SERVICE MAN FIRST SAYS THAT'S DIFFERENT THAN THE "THROTTLE BODY" (MY UNDERSTANDING IS THE THROTTLE VALVE IS THE PLATE INSIDE THE THROTTLE BODY THAT OPENS/CLOSES CONTROLLING AIRFLOW TO THE MANIFOLD, IT THAT IS "STUCK OPEN", IT SHOULD BE COVERED). HE THEN SAYS HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT A "THROTTLE VALUE" IS AND SAYS IT WILL COST APPROX $350 TO REPAIR. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, MY CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING AND THE RPMS DID NOT BUDGE EVEN WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS. A FEW SECONDS LATER THE FRONT END OF MY CAR (WHICH I AM ASSUMING WAS THE ENGINE) BEGAN SPUTTERING. A SERVICE LIGHT ALSO APPEARED WHICH IS THE ONE THAT IS SHAPED LIKE A DOUBLE-SIDED WRENCH. I PULLED OFF OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. I TURNED THE ENGINE BACK ON A FEW MINUTES LATER AND IT STARTED WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. I TOOK MY CAR INTO A FORD DEALERSHIP AN HOUR AFTER AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THEY PLUGGED IN THE COMPUTER AND IT DID NOT DETECT ANY ISSUES. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH AND THE CAR SEEMED TO STALL. I LOST POWER AND COASTED TO A STOP. I COULD PUSH THE ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR HAD ENOUGH POWER TO CRAWL FORWARD. I TURNED THE KEY OFF AND THAT CLEARED THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER THE PROBLEM CAME BACK A FEW DAYS LATER. AGAIN I TURNED THE KEY OFF AND THE PROBLEM CLEARED. AFTER THIS HAPPENED A SECOND TIME I TOOK THE CAR TO A FRIEND WHO OWNS A MECHANICS SHOP. HE HOOKED UP THE CAR TO HIS COMPUTER AND HE RETRIEVED A CODE FOR THE PROBLEM. AFTER RECEIVING THE CODE I CALLED THE DEALER I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THE CODE WAS FOR THE THROTTLE BODY. THE DEALER TOLD ME FORD WOULD NOT COVER THE REPLACEMENT OF THIS PART. ABOUT A WEEK AFTER THE INITIAL OCCURRENCE I LOST POWER AGAIN AND I TURNED THE KEY OFF, THE PROBLEM CLEARED BUT ONLY LONG ENOUGH TO DRIVE ANOTHER MILE AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN. I WAS FIRST IN LINE AT A RED LIGHT ON A 2-LANE HIGHWAY. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I ACCELERATED AND HALFWAY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION THE CAR "LURCHED" AND LOST POWER. THE CAR DIDN'T DIE BUT THERE WAS NO RESPONSE IN THE GAS PEDAL AND A WRENCH SYMBOL APPEARED IN THE DASH. I MADE IT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND TO THE SHOULDER AT IDLE SPEED (WITH A LINE OF CARS BEHIND ME). I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED IT OFF FOR A MINUTE. IT RESTARTED OK, THE WRENCH WAS GONE AND THE CAR RAN FINE. I CONSIDERED IT A FLUKE UNTIL A WEEK LATER WHEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED, EXCEPT THAT I WAS TRAVELING AT 70 MPH IN THE INSIDE LANE OF THE SAME HIGHWAY. LUCKILY THERE WAS ROOM TO CHANGE LANES WHILE DECELERATING AND I PULLED TO THE SHOULDER. AGAIN, IT RESTARTED FINE AFTER I TURNED IT OFF, AND THE WRENCH WAS GONE.
