HELLO AND GOOD DAY, WHEN I 1ST PURCHASED MY MOUNTAINEER (PURCHASED USED WITH APPROX 119,000 MILES) I TOOK IT TO GET IT WASHED. WHEN I WAS GETTING IT WASHED THE REAR HATCH PANEL (THE RECTANGULAR PANEL UNDER THE GLASS WITH THE MAKE AND MODEL NAME) CRACKED AND BROKE APART. I TRIED TO CONTACT FORD AND MERCURY CONCERNING THIS TO EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED AND HOW PART OF THE CAR LITERALLY FELL OFF. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT RECALL THIS BUT THAT I COULD TAKE IT TO MY LOCAL DEALER AND THEY COULD FIX IT FOR $750! I DID RESEARCH TO FIND, LITERALLY, THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. PEOPLE'S REAR HATCH PANELS ARE FALLING OFF WHILE DRIVING ALL THE TIME, I SEE IT ON THE ROAD ALOT. SINCE THE PANEL FELL OFF, THE RETAINING METAL PIECE THAT HOLDS THE REATCH HATCH CLASP IN PLACE TO THE DOOR, IT RUSTING OFF. THIS IS BECAUSE THE PANEL IS BROKEN OFF AND WATER/ICE HAS RUSTED THE AREA, WHERE USUALLY WATER AND ICE COULD NOT REACH IT. THIS SMALL PROBLEM IS NOT CAUSING MULTIPLE PROBLEMS. I AM CONCERNED THAT MORE OF MY REAR PANEL WILL FLY OFF WHILE DRIVING AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT I AM CONCERNED THAT MY REAR HATCH PANEL WILL COME OPEN WHILE DRIVING (THE CLASP COULD RUST OFF ANYTIME) AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR IT WILL FLY OPEN AND STUFF WILL FLY OUT OF MY CAR AND THEN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT I AM CONCERNED THAT MY PANEL WILL OPEN WHILE PARKED AND MY CAR /POSSESSIONS WILL BE STOLEN I AM CONCERNED THAT THE DOOR CLASP WILL CAUSE MY CAR ALARM (FACTORY) TO GO OFF AND RUN MY BATTER DOWN AND/OR SHORT OUT MY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. MY MOTHER WAS AT HER PARENTS' HOUSE AND OPENED THE REAR GLASS PORTION OF THE LIFT GATE. UPON DOING SO, ONE OF THE LIFT GATE CYLINDERS DETACHED FROM THE GLASS. SHE WENT INSIDE TO GET HER FATHER TO COME OUTSIDE AND SEE IF HE COULD FIX THE ISSUE. WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO LIFT THE GLASS, IT SHATTERED INSTANTLY LEAVING CUTS ALL OVER HIS BODY. I CALLED FORD ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO ABOUT THIS BECAUSE THE RECALL THAT ADDRESSES THIS ISSUE HAD ALREADY BEEN PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 01I010000). *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN THE CONTACT OPENED THE REAR LIFTGATE WINDOW AND THE HINGE FRACTURED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE WINDOW FELL ONTO THE CONTACT AND ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL RESULTING IN TWO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 150,596.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE OPENING THE HATCH ON THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, IT FRACTURED AND THE GLASS FELL OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER THAT INFORMED HER THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 01I010000 (VISIBILITY: GLASS, SIDE/REAR). THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 127,462.

2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HEATER BLEND DOOR FAILURE NO DEFROSTER HEAT COMPLETE SYSTEM FAILURE OF BLEND DOORS BROKEN HAD TO REPAIR MYSELF BECAUSE OF EXTREMELY HIGH COST FOR DEALER REPAIRS. THIS IS A FAILURE THAT WILL HAPPEN DO TO POOR DESIGN OF PLASTIC PARTS AND WILL HAPPEN TO ALL VEHICLES OF THIS YEAR AND TYPE BECAUSE OF FAILURE OF PLASTIC LIMIT PIN BREAKAGE POOR DESIGN BECAUSE. *TR

I HAD DRIVEN MY 2002 MOUNTAINEER TO WORK, I GENTLY PULLED BACK ON THE GEAR SHIFT, TO PUT IT INTO PARK, AND IT BROKE OFF IN MY HAND. I HAD TO LEAVE IT IN DRIVE AND ALSO HAD TO LEAVE MY KEYS IN THE CAR. I DIDN'T REALLY WORRY ABOUT IT BEING STOLEN BECAUSE IT WON'T GO ANYWHERE. I FEEL THAT FORD SHOULD HAVE PUT A RECALL ON THIS MODEL OF MOUNTAINEER, DO TO SO MANY PROBLEMS. TRANSMISSIONS, AUTO WINDOWS, GEAR SHIFTS, WHEEL WELDS, AND NOW A FIRE MAY START IN THE CAR EVEN IF IT'S NOT RUNNING. REALLY, I GUESS WE WILL HAVE TO WAIT TILL ONE OF THEM BLOWS UP, KILLING SOMEONE, BEFORE FORD WILL LISTEN. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE WINDSHIELD ON THE REAR LIFT GATE AND IT SHATTERED. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT NHTSA RECALL # 01I010000, VISIBILITY GLASS, SIDE/REAR HAD ALREADY BEEN SERVICED ON THE VEHICLE. PRIOR TO THE RECENT FAILURE THE CONTACT HAD THE REAR WINDSHIELD REPAIRED ON 4 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE THREE YEARS AGO THE WINDSHIELD RECALL REPAIR WAS SATISFIED. THE MOST RECENT REPAIR WAS MADE IN APRIL OF 2007. THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 80,000.

ON COLD MORNINGS, THE FRONT WINDSHIELD FOGS/FROSTS UP. TURNING HEAT ON AND SELECTING DEFROST PROVIDES LITTLE TO NO AIR TO WINDSHIELD. DEALERSHIP IDENTIFIED IT AS A BROKEN VENT SELECT DOOR, REQUIRING DASHBOARD TO BE REMOVED AND PART REPLACED, $1100 FIX. IN DOING RESEARCH ON THE VENT SELECT DOOR - CARS ARE DESIGNED THAT IF THE SELECTOR BREAKS THAT THE AIR SHOULD DEFAULT TO THE FRONT DEFROST SO THAT WINDSHIELD WOULD NOT FOG/FROST AND CAUSE A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. MULTIPLE TIMES THIS HAS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING, ALL ALONG BELIEVING THAT THE FOGGING UP WAS DUE TO SNOW BUILD UP ON OUTSIDE VENTS. THE FACT THAT THE VENT BROKE AND DID NOT PUSH AIR TO THE WINDSHIELD IS WHY I'M LOGGING THIS COMPLAINT AS IT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. IN READING THE OTHER ENTRIES, NOTING THAT I'VE HAD TO HAVE THE REAR COIL SPRINGS REPLACED AND HAD BACK LIFTGATE REPLACED AFTER CRACKING. *TR

OTHER VEHICLES OF THE SAME MAKE, MODEL, AND YEAR HAVE BEEN INCLUDED FOR A SAFETY RECALL REGARDING THE BRACKETS CONNECTING THE LIFT CYLINDERS TO EACH SIDE OF THE LIFTGATE GLASS. THE ADHESIVE HAS WORKED LOOSE AND THE CYLINDER WILL NOT HOLD OPEN THE GLASS; THE GATE HAS FALLEN AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO, RESULTING IN GLASS BREAKAGE. *TR

PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT HEARD A RATTLING SOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED ACCORDING TO FORD RECALL NUMBER 04S20 AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 01I010000 (VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN BECAUSE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CONSTANTLY DISPLAYS AN ERROR MESSAGE STATING THAT THE REAR LIFTGATE IS AJAR DUE TO THE FAILURE.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS 04V442000 (STRUCTURE:BODY: HATCHBACK/LIFTGATE:HINGE AND ATTACHMENTS), 01I010000 (VISIBILITY: GLASS, SIDE/REAR), AND 07E104000 (VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR); THEREFORE, THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COST. THE REAR WINDOW SHATTERED WHEN IT WAS LIFTER CAUSING THE GLASS AND METAL BAR ACROSS THE WINDOW TO TO COME CRASHING DOWN ON MY HEAD AND BACK. THE GLASS CAUSED CUTS ON MY HANDS, FEET AND THEY BECAME EMBEDDED IN MY SKULL. THE METAL BAR CAUSED A CUT AND A BRUISED SKULL. *TR
REAR PASSENGER POWER WINDOW NOT OPERATING PROPERLY. IT WILL GO DOWN, BUT NOT GO UP, EITHER FROM PASSENGER DOOR SWITCH OR DRIVER'S SWITCH. BOTH SWITCHES AND MOTOR REPLACED AT FIRST REPAIR SHOP BUT COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. MY LOCAL MERCURY DEALER ALSO WANTED TO REPLACED BOTH NEW SWITCHES AND NEW MOTOR CLAIMING ALL THREE WERE STILL BAD. TWO WEEKS, AND THREE SHOPS LATER, A FORD DEALER IN THE NEXT TOWN OVER SAID BOTH SWITCHES AND MOTOR WERE FINE ( I ALREADY KNEW THAT). HE FOUND A BROKEN WIRE BEHIND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PEDAL BEHIND THE DASH PANEL. A NEW SECTION OF WIRE WAS SPLICED IN, BUT THEY ARE NOT SURE HOW OR WHY THIS WIRE BROKE IN AN UNEXPOSED LOCATION. *NM

REAR LIFTGATE GLASS SHATTERED. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED IN TWO YEARS. I REPLACED THE LIFTGATE GLASS IN 2004 AFTER IT SHATTERED THE FIRST TIME. A REPLACEMENT PART WAS PUT ONTO MY VEHICLE ON 12/14/05 AFTER A RECALL SERVICE. WITHIN SIX MONTHS THE PART THAT WAS DETERMINED AS DEFECTIVE IN 2004 THAT WAS PUT ONTO MY VEHICLE IN DECEMBER CAUSED THE GLASS TO SHATTER AGAIN. *NM

2002 MOUNTAINEER STALLS, TRANSMISSION CONTROL ASSEMBLY, MAIN CONTROL VALVE, AND GASKET HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TS THE LIFT GATE WAS STICKING, AND WHILE CLOSING IT, THE GLASS SHATTERED, THE GLASS WAS RECALLED, AND WAS SUPPOSE TO HAVE BEEN FIXED. THE OIL LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE TRIM ON THE FRONT DOOR FELL OFF WHILE DRIVING. THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR WHEELS, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS SEVERE RUST ON THE BRAKE COMPONETS, THE PARK BRAKE SHOES FELL APART DUE TO CORROSION, THE REAR WHEEL BEARING AND KNUCKLE ASSEMBLY HAD EXCESSIVE RUST. *JB

ON NATIONAL TV THERE WAS A RECALL FOR FORD EXPEDITION REGARDING WATER LEAKING FROM THE WINDSHIELD WITH THE INTERIOR BEING SOAKED ON A RAINY DAY. I OWN A MERCURY MOUNTAINEER 2002, AND AM EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM FOR ABOUT 5 MONTHS, AND UNTIL RECENTLY IT HAS WORSENED. WHEN I CALLED FORD ON 6/22/05, THEY EXPLAINED THAT MY VEHICLE ID WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE HAVING THIS INVESTIGATED SINCE IT SEEMED TO BE QUITE DANGEROUS FOR A WINDSHIELD TO BE LEAKING WATER. WHEN I TOUCH THE GLASS WINDSHIELD I CAN ACTUALLY MOVE IT. WHAT IF I HIT A POT HOLE...COULD THE GLASS SHATTER AND BREAK FROM LACK OF STABILITY. I DRIVE DAILY WITH MY THREE CHILDREN, AND AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT HAVING THE MANUFACTURER FIX THIS PROBLEM. THERE WAS A RECALL ON REAR WINDSHIELD GLASS ON CERTAIN FORD MOTOR COMPANY VEHICLES. THE INSURANCE COMPANIES INVESTIGATION DETERMINED THAT THE DAMAGE SUSTAINED BY THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS FROM A FLAW IN THE REAR WINDSHIELD GLASS. BACK LIFT SHATTERED WHEN CLOSING, RESULTING IN SHATTERED GLASS EVERYWHERE AND BRACKETS HANGING (IT WAS RAINING OUTSIDE!). I DROVE CAR TO DEALER WHO PROVIDED A REPLACEMENT CAR DURING REPAIRS BUT IT TOOK 6 WEEKS TO REPAIR. THEN WHEN I WAS CALLED TO PICK UP THE CAR I WAS TOLD THE "CHECK ENGINE SOON LIGHT" IS COMING ON! WHEN I PICKED IT UP, I NOT ONLY SEE THE LIGHT IS INTERMITTENT COMING ON, BUT MY ELECTRIC WINDOW SWITCHES ARE NOT WORKING TO PUT THE WINDOWS UP AND DOWN (EXCEPT THE FRONT PASSENGER WORKS FINE) AND THE DRIVER SEAT BELT IS NOT RETRACTING CORRECTLY! I DROVE CAR TO DEALER WHO AFTER INITIAL QUESTIONS AND FORD APPROVAL THEN ADVISED OF RECALL AND PROVIDED A REPLACEMENT CAR DURING REPAIRS BUT IT TOOK 6 WEEKS TO REPAIR. AMAZING WHILE THE 6 WEEK REPAIRS OF "WAITING FOR PARTS" I GOT A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL (AUG 05). AFTER BOTHERING THE DEALER TO GET THE CAR BACK, I WAS CALLED TO PICK UP THE CAR AND I WAS TOLD THE "CHECK ENGINE SOON LIGHT" IS COMING ON! WHEN I PICKED IT UP, I NOT ONLY SEE THE LIGHT IS INTERMITTENT COMING ON, BUT MY ELECTRIC WINDOW SWITCHES ARE NOT WORKING TO PUT THE WINDOWS UP AND DOWN (EXCEPT THE FRONT PASSENGER WORKS FINE) AND THE DRIVER SEAT BELT IS NOT RETRACTING CORRECTLY! TWO DEALERS HAVE SAID THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED IN OTHER VEHICLES. HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. ALSO TRANSMISSION TROUBLE. DEALER SAID NEEDED TO REPLACE AT COST OF $3200.00. DEALER CHARGED $80.00 TO TELL ME IT NEEDED FIXED. TOOK TO TRANS. REPAIR SHOP TO REPAIR AT COST OF $1300.00. THIS MONTH I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE IDLER PULLEY, EGR VALVE, AND THE ELEC REAR WINDOW IS NOT FUNCTIONING. *JB

AFTER HAVING THE RECALL FOR THE LIFTGATE REPAIRED, THE PLASTIC IS BEGINNING TO CRACK. THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT HAVING ANY PROBLEMS PRIOR. *JB.........*AK
THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WORK VERY SLOW AND THE WASHER SPRAYS ALL OVER THE WINDSHIELD AND WILL NOT STOP. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED, THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH, AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. *NM THE PROBLEM RECURRED. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD ON TWO OCCASIONS THAT THE PROBLEM WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. THE CONSUMER WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE MICRO PROCESSOR ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. CURRENTLY THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. *SC *JB

THE FIRST TIME IT WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED WAS IN SEPT. 2004. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ( IT WAS RAINING) THE WIPERS WERE WORKING FINE, THEN THEY BEGAN TO MOVE VERY SLOW AND WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID BEGAN TO SQUIRT OUT. I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BECAUSE I COULDN'T SEE OUT OF THE FRONT WINDOW. I WAITED UNTIL THE RAIN SLOWED DOWN AND PRECEDED HOME WITH THE WIPERS MALFUNCTIONING. SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT THE WIPERS WILL WORK FINE FOR THE FIRST 10,15,20 MINUTES AND START DOING THE SAME THING. THE VEHICLE IS AT REEDMAN MERCURY SERVICE CENTER IN LANGHORNE PA. AS THIS LETTER IS BEING WRITTEN. THEY TELL ME THAT THERE HAS BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH IN MERCURY PRODUCTS. THEY ARE GOING TO REPLACE THIS SWITCH FOR $220.00 MUCH TO MY DISAPPOVAL. THIS IS A SAFTEY ISSURE THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF BY MERCURY. *JB
PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. *MR THE ENGINE REMAINED SLIPPING, JUMPING, AND MAKING NOISES, THE REAR WINDOW DID NOT HOLD AND FELL ON THE CONSUMERS HEAD, THE STEERING COLUMN LOCKS, THE FUEL ENGINE READ EMPTY AND THE LIGHT WAS ON, THE INTERIOR COAT HOOKS HAD COME OUT OF THE WALLS, AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS JUMPING, CLUNKING, AND SLIPPING. *SC DUP OF 10022342_PCO

WHILE DRIVING IN COLD WEATHER DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW FELL OFF TRACK, CAUSING THE GLASS TO FALL INSIDE THE PANEL OF THE DOOR FRAME. ONSUMER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND MECHANIC REPLACED THE WINDOW. ALSO, CONSUMER WENT TO LIFT UP THE TAILGATE AND THE CABLE SNAPPED IN HALF. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO PUT THE CABLE IN THE BACK OF THE TRUNK. HOWEVER, MECHANIC INFORMED CONSUMER THAT VEHICLE WAS NOT ON RECALL OR UNDER WARRANTY. *AK
MOON ROOF MAKES NOISE CAN NOT TRAVEL WITH WINDOWS DOWN. *NLM
