THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE PARKED IN A PARKING SPACE AT 2 AM. THE FIRE WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE AND BURNT THE ENTIRE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. CONSUMER FELT THAT THE FIRE WAS DUE TO A DEFECT DESCRIBED IN THE FUEL RECALL 96V158001. BUT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK

WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. FIRE DEPARTMENT STATED IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK

CAR DIES WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. THIS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS AND THE DEALERSHIPS HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. HAVE HAD NUMEROUS THINGS REPLACED AND IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP MORE THEN FOUR TIMES FOR THIS SAME REASON. I KNOW THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER BY NAME. IT'S A SHAME THAT THIS HASNT BEEN A RECALL. I GUESS THERE NEEDS TO BE MORE ACCIDENTS FIRST!!!

WHILE DRIVING ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE. IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, AND CONSUMER GET HURT. CAUSE UNKNOWN. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
SINCE OCTOBER 2001, MY ECLIPSE HAS BEEN STALLING WITHOUT WARNING. BOTH THE ``CHECK ENGINE'' AND ``OIL'' LIGHTS ILLUMINATE AND I LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AS IT SLOWS TO A STOP. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON THE FREEWAY. EACH TIME, I'VE NEARLY BEEN REAR-ENDED. SEVERAL MECHANICS HAVE RUN DIAGNOSTIC CHECKS ON MY CAR. BUT THE PROBLEM HAS NEVER BEEN DETECTED. MEANWHILE, MY CAR CONTINUES TO CUT OUT WHEN LEAST EXPECTED AND REGARDLESS OF SPEED. I WISH THIS PROBLEM COULD BE DIAGNOSED AS I SEE FROM OTHER COMPLAINTS THAT I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE DRIVING A DEATH TRAP.*AK
THE CAR REPEATEDLY SHUTS OFF OR STALLS WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN NUMEROUS TIMES AND THE PROBLEM CANNOT BE FOUND. THE FUEL PUMP RELAY, ENGINE CONTROL UNIT, IGNITION WIRES, SPARK PLUG WIRES HAVE ALL BEEN REPLACED. THE THROTTLE PLATES HAVE BEEN CLEANED OUT. IT IS AGAIN IN THE REPAIR SHOP. *AK
PROBLEM HAS BEEN ON GOING FOR 2.5 MONTHS. DEALER HAS HAD CAR FOR OVER A MONTH AND HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DIAGNOS OR CURE THE PROBLEM. I'VE SPENT HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON FIXES THAT THEY HAVE RECOMMENDED. NONE HAVE WORKED AND THEIR CORPORATE HAS NOT GIVEN ME ANY SUPPORT IN THIS MATTER. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURS THE CAR'S ENGINE SHUTS OFF WITH NO WARNING. POWER STEERING AND BRAKES GO OUT RENDERING THE VEHICLE A HAZARD TO MYSELF AND ALL OTHER DRIVERS AROUND MY ON BUSY HWYS. IF THERE IS ANY ASSISTANCE THAT YOUR ORGANIZATION CAN PROVIDE ME I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT! TKS FOR YOUR TIME AND CONSIDERATION.

VEHICLE STALLS AT ANY SPEED, HAD SAME PROBLEM IN 1998. DEALER REPLACED ENGINE CONTROL UNIT. *AK THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF SUDDENLY AT 20-65 MPH. THERE IS OIL LEAK AS WELL DUE TO CYLINDER HEAD GASKET FAILURE. *YH
AFTER THREE VISITS TO THE DEALER (SOMETIMES BY TOW TRUCK), THEY REPEATEDLY INDICATED THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. ON THE FOURTH VISIT, THE ENGINE CONTROL UNIT WAS REPLACED. THE CAR WOULD SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING AT VARYING SPEEDS WITH NO PRIOR WARNING. THE PROBLEM REOCCURRED IN NOVEMBER OF 2000. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER WHERE THEY ONCE AGAIN CLAIM THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE ENGINE OIL GASKET COVER WAS REPLACED ON 12/29/98. SUBSEQUENT COMPLAINTS OF AN OIL LEAK WERE DISMISSED AS NOT CAUSING THE PRESENTING PROBLEM OR I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO OIL LEAK DESPITE PROVIDING DOCUMENTATION FROM OTHER REPAIR ESTABLISHMENTS. HOWEVER, AFTER THE WARRANTY PERIOD, AN OIL LEAK WAS DIAGNOSED ON 9/19/00. THESE ARE SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERNS THAT MUST BE ADDRESSED.
WHILE DRVING AT SPEEDS OF 40MPH AND OVER VEHICLE WILL SHUTDOWN AND DIE. DEALER HAS INSPECTED VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES, AND HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE OR CORRECT THE PROBLEM.*AK
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE 3 BRAND NEW BATTERIES WHICH WERE STILL UNDER WARRANTY, BECAUSE THEY WERE TOTALLY DRAINED. I BELIEVE THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THERE IS NOTHING THAT I HAVE DONE THAT SHOULD HAVE CAUSED THE BATTERIES TO DIE. THE BLOWER ON THE AIR CONDITIONER/HEAT DOESN'T WORK AND THE DEALER STATES THAT THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE COVER OF THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG IS PRYING UP FROM THE DASHBOARD. I HAVE HAD THE BRAKES REPLACE 2 TIMES ALL READY AND NOW ALL THE ROTORS ARE WARPED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. I THINK THIS VEHICLE MAKE HAS VERY SERIOUS DEFECTS AND AFTER REVIEWING OTHER CONSUMERS PROBLEMS. I'M VERY GLAD THAT I PLAN TO SELL MINE VERY SHORTLY.

CONSUMER STATES THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WENT OUT, CAUSING THE ACCELERATOR TO GO DOWN TO THE FLOOR. THE DEALER DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLES. OWNER STATES THAT VEHICLE IS STILL NOT REPAIRED . *AK
