THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, RESULTING IN A REAR END ACCIDENT. THE CAR HAS BEEN TOTALED WITH NO EXPLANATION OF WHY THE BRAKES FAILED.*AK

CONSUMER HAS PROBLEMS WITH BRAKES/CLUTCH AND STEERING WHEEL. SHE SAID THAT STEERING WHEEL WANDERED ON IT'S OWN. WHEN APPLYING BRAKES BRAKE PEDAL STAYED UP HIGH, AND ON OTHER TIMES, BRAKES PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. EVERY SIX MONTHS, SHE HAD TO REPLACE BRAKES. ALSO, CLUTCH STUCK, AND MOVED INTERMITTENTLY. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, AND MECHANIC TOLD HER THAT PROBLEM CANNOT BE DUPLICATED. *AK
THIS INFORMATION WAS RECONSTRUCTED FROM MEMORY. I WROTE A LETTER TO NHSTA IN 1995. THOUGH I NO LONGER OWN THE CAR (I SOLD IT IN APRIL 2000) I AM ENTERING THIS DATA AT THIS TIME, BECAUSE OF TODAY'S PRESS RELEASE REGARDING THE MITSUBISHI COVERUP. THE VEHICLE STALLED DUE TO ABS SYSTEM LOCKING UP AND FAILURE. YH
RECALL 98V212000 CONCERNING STOP LAMP SWITCH. RECALL REMEDY DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. WHEN THE STOP LAMP SWITCH WAS ASSEMBLED GREASE WAS INADVERTENTLY APPLIED TO THE CONTACT POINT. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED IN A PANIC STOP PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
ABS BRAKE WARNING LIGHT REMAINS ILLUMINATED INDICATING A MALFUNCTION WITHIN THE SYSTEM. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
HAD PROBLEMS WITH ABS LIGHT COMING ON & GOING OFF THROUGHOUT OWNERSHIP OF CAR. ALSO, HAD PROBLEMS WITH ABS LIGHT STAYING ON. THIS PROBLEM WAS SERVICED BY DEALER ON 5 OCCASIONS. ABS CONTROL UNIT, RELAY, RELAY S-O AND HYDRAULIC UNIT WAS REPLACED AT 41,201 MILES AND AGAIN AT 82,000. *AK

WHILE DRIVING ABS LIGHT STAYS ON WITH NO WAY TO BE TURNED OFF, AND THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH HAD BEEN REPLACED FOUR TIMES. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
ABS LIGHT CAME ON ONE MONTH AFTER HAVING FRONT BRAKES REPLACED.
VEHICLE HAS EXPERIENCED TWO BRAKE FAILURES, THE DEALERSHIP CAN NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES.
