The contact owns a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander. The contact stated while driving at approximately 25 MPH, the vehicle came to an immediate stop and did not return to normal operation. The contact noticed that the front control arm had detached. No warning light was illuminated. The contact researched and became aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V458000 (Suspension). The vehicle was not drivable and was towed to the residence. A dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was included in the recall but already had been serviced under the recall; however, the failure occurred. The failure mileage was 188,000.

REAR CONTROL ARMS ARE RUSTED THROUGH, THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE FRONT AND HAD THE REPAIRS DONE. THE FRONT CONTROL ARM RECALL WAS DUE TO POOR RUST PROOFING DURING MANUFACTURING. THE REAR HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. CANNOT REALIGN REAR WHEELS AND REAR SWAY BAR BRACKET BROKE FREE ENTIRELY. VEHICLE IS NOW STATIONARY AS IT CANNOT BE DRIVEN.

REPAIRED AT MY EXPENSE $2161.70. MADE CLAIM FOR REIMBURSEMENT THROUGH MITSUBISHI DEALER AND MITSUBISHI OF NORTH AMERICA. HAVE A MITSUBISHI FILE NUMBER [XXX]. MITSUBISHI OF NA HAS VERBALLY AGREED TO SETTLE, BUT HAS NOT CONTACTED ME SINCE AUGUST OF 2019. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET MY CALLS RETURNED SINCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND LATER TOWED TO SAVANNAH MITSUBISHI (8203 WHITE BLUFF RD, SAVANNAH, GA 31406, PHONE NUMBER: (912) 226-6200) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CROSS MEMBERS WERE CORRODED THROUGH AND CAUSED THE CV AXLE, BALL JOINT, AND CONTROL ARM TO DETACH. NOT NOTIFIED BY DEALERSHIP AT RECENT SERVICE THERE WAS A PROBLEM. AN UNKNOWN PERSON THAT DROVE BEHIND ME MENTIONED THAT I SHOULD GET REAR WHEEL LOOKED AT. WHEN BROUGHT FOR ALIGNMENT CHECK, I WAS NOTIFIED BY THE MECHANIC TO LOOK AT THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR. EROSION WAS SO BAD, I DROVE THE 5 MILES TO MY HOME AND WILL NOT TAKE IT ON THE ROAD AGAIN. I PURCHASED MY 2003 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER IN FEBRUARY, 2013 WITH 104,000 MILES ON IT. AT FIRST EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE, BUT AFTER 2 WEEKS THE BACK END OF THE CAR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE SQUEAKS AND MAKES LOTS OF NOISE. AT FIRST IT WOULD ONLY DO IT A LITTLE BUT IT GOT WORSE AND WORSE WITHIN A COUPLE WEEKS IT CONSTANTLY MAKES NOISE, WHICH IS VERY ANNOYING. I THINK THE DEALERSHIP MUST HAVE DONE A QUICK CHEAP FIX ON IT SO WHEN I TEST DROVE IT, IT WOULD NOT DO IT UNTIL IT WAS PURCHASED. I ALSO HAVE WATER SEEPING IN IN THE FLOOR NEXT TO THE DOOR ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND WATER COMING THROUGH THE DASH AREA ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEN IT RAINS OR IN A CAR WASH. I READ ONLINE THAT THAT CAN CAUSE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WHICH WORRY'S ME. MY HEAD LIGHTS ALSO HAVE CRACKS AND FOGGED UP AND MAKES IT HARD TO SEE AT NIGHT, WHICH I'VE SEEN TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. WHEN CAR WAS FIRST PURCHASED TOLD DEALER IT FELT LIKE BACK END WAS KICKIN OUT ON WET ROADS,TOOK IT DEALER WAS TOLD THEY COULD FIND NOTHING. SEVERAL DAYS LATER CAR SPUN OUT ON WAY TO WORK DUE TO BLOW OUT. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER WERE UPPER AND LOWER LATS. WERE REPLACED.(NO OLD PARTS NOT AVAILABLE) CAR SEEMED OK FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AT WHICH POINT IT BEGAN TO FEEL LIKE IT WAS SLIDING AROUND IN REAR END AGAIN. AGAIN DEALER CHECKED FOUND NOTHING.. MY HUSBAND THREW A FIT WITH DEALER AT WHICH POINT A BALL JOINT WAS REPLACED(PART NOT AVAILABLE), IN MY OPINION ONLY TO PACIFY US. THE CAR HAS STILL NEVER FELT RIGHT. AT WHICH POINT THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND THE DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO EVEN TALK TO US ABOUT THIS. NOW FOUR MONTHS AFTER HAVING FOUR NEW TIRES MOUNTED AND BALANCED I HAVE TWO REAR TIRES SO WORN AND DAMAGED THE BELTS ARE COMING THROUGH THEM. FIRST TIME IT WAS AT 30,000 MILES, SECOND TIME AT 48,000 MILES, AND THE THIRD TIME AT 89,000 MILES, AND CURRENTLY AT 106,000 MILES. THE CONTACT TOOK VEHICLE TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP , ARNOLD AUTOMOTIVE GROUP IN ROSEVILLE, MI 4 TIMES, AND THEY STATED THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHY THE PART KEPT GOING BAD. SINCE THE PURCHASE OF OUR 2003 OUTLANDER, IT HAS VEERED BADLY TO THE RIGHT. I NOTIFIED THE DEALER OF THE PROBLEM FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE. I HAVE HAD IT IN THE DEALERSHIP TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM 3 TIMES AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. IF YOU ARE TRAVELING AT A LOW SPEED IT IS NOT AS OBVIOUS, BUT WHEN TRAVELING AT HIGHER SPEEDS (60-70MPH) IF YOU DO NOT APPLY PRESSURE TO THE STEERING WHEEL, YOU WILL VEER RIGHT AND IN 5 TO 7 SECONDS BE IN A DITCH, OR IF PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE, YOU WOULD CRASH INTO THEM. I CONSIDER THIS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM, THAT COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR EVEN DEATH. I HAVE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP. I JUST HAD THE OUTLANDER IN THE DEALERSHIP YESTERDAY FOR THE 3RD TIME, AND NEEDLESS TO SAY, THE PROBLEM IS STILL UNRESOLVED.
