Cvtc transmission stalls almost got my kids and my pregnant daughter hit I bought the car only 2 months ago
I started my vehicle, as usual, and when driving at a very slow speed (neighborhood speed limits) I approached a very busy intersection and the car just stopped. Not only did it stop, it would not steer and a bunch of warning lights came on the dashboard. Tav I believe, oil, check engine light. Even with the key in the acc mode, the power steering was not functioning. Everything just stopped functioning. I know this vehicle was recalled for the same exact thing back in 2008, but obviously it wasn't permanently fixed. Recall #07v-527. If I would have been in the middle of an intersection and this happened I could have been killed.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled upon the depression of the accelerator after coming to a complete stop. The contact was uncertain if any warning lights appeared during the failure. The contact was able to pull the vehicle off the road and into the entrance of a parking lot. She then stated that the vehicle independently lurched forward through a fence and rolled down a hill and into a five-lane road. The air bags did not deploy during the incident. A police report was not filed and the contact was injured. With the assistance of a fellow motorist, the contact was able to move the vehicle to a nearby independent mechanic. The mechanic attempted to jumpstart the vehicle but the vehicle failed to start up. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was given a case number. The contact also spoke with three dealers (Dealers unknown) and they each offered no assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the mechanic. UNKNOWN: While driving the car will stall. After restarting it, the car will then be stuck in fifth (highest) gear. The SES (Service engine soon) light comes on. The first time this happened, after the next trip, the SES light went out. Then the same thing happened. This is a danger because if this happens in heavy traffic, it could lead to a collision.

PURCHASED THIS CAR USED FROM A DEALERSHIP 3 WEEKS AGO. WITHIN 1 WEEK THE CAR STALLED WHILE DRIVING. STARTED IT BACK UP WITH NO PROBLEMS. TOOK CAR ON A 750 MI. ROAD TRIP AND WHILE DRIVING 75MPH ON CRUISE CONTROL THE CAR BUCKED. AFTER REACHING OUR DESTINATION AND TURNING THE CAR OFF WE HAD TROUBLE RESTARTING IT. WHEN IT FINALLY STARTED THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND CODES CAME UP FOR THE CAM AND CRANK SHAFT SENSORS. REPLACED THESE SENSORS AND CLEARED CODES. DROVE CAR AWAY AND WITHIN 5MILES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND AGAIN EXCESSIVE CRANKING WHEN TRYING TO START THE CAR. BROUGHT IT BACK TO MECHANIC AND THE BRAND NEW CAM SENSOR THAT WAS REPLACED LESS THAN 24HRS BEFORE TESTED OUT BAD. REPLACED SENSOR AGAIN AND CLEARED CODE AND CODE CAME UP FOR HIGH SPEED INPUT SENSOR ALONG WITH THE SAME CODES FOR CAM SHAFT AND CRANK SHAFT SENSORS. AGAIN TROUBLE STARTING VEHICLE. DROVE CAR 750MI. BACK HOME WITHOUT TURNING THE CAR OFF FOR FEAR OF NOT BEING ABLE TO START AGAIN. DEALING WITH A NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO TRY AND GET THIS FIXED. THIS ISSUE WAS UNDER RECALL BEFORE. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ENTERING HIGHWAY I WENT TO SHIFT MY 06 ALTIMA 5 SPEED INTO 5TH GEAR WHEN I PRESSED THE CLUTCH PEDAL THERE WAS NO PRESSURE AND TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT GO INTO 5TH GEAR. I LET UP ON THE PEDAL AND IN A FEW SECONDS THE PEDAL HAD PRESSURE AGAIN. ENTER HIGHWAY AND DROVE FOR ABOUT 25 MILES AND EXITED HIGHWAY. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN NO PRESSURE IN THE PEDAL THEN PRESSURE. I WAS ABLE TO RETURN HOME BUT THE PROBLEM IS STILL HAPPENING. I HAVE READ SOME FORUMS ON THIS ISSUE AND IT SEAMS THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. SOME PEOPLE SAY THEY REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND SLAVE CYLINDER AND THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. OTHER PEOPLE RECOMMEND USING A DOT 5 BRAKE FLUID WITH A HIGHER BOILING POINT.NOT SURE WHAT DIRECTION TO HEAD IN. AS A LIFE LONG MECHANIC FOR DEALERSHIPS IT APPEARS TO ME THAT THE FLUID IS BOILING OUT AND CAUSING AIR POCKETS IN THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM, THEN BLEEDING IT SELF OUT. MANAGED TO GET INTO BREAKDOWN LANE AND WHILE GOING 15/20 MPH PLACED THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL AND ENGINE RESTARTED AND PROCEEDED 50 MILES TO HOME. BROUGHT INTO NISSAN DEALER ON 12/18 AND THEY CLAIMED THEY CHECKED IT OUT AND COULD FIND NO PROBLEMS. NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE OPENED A CASE #[XXX] BUT HAS NOT RETURNED CALLS AFTER THE NISSAN DEALER DIAGNOSTICS. THE CAR IS A DANGER TO OURSELVES AND OTHERS BUT IT IS OUR ONLY VEHICLE. AFTER HAVING THE CLUTCH PARTS REPLACED THE PEDAL STUCK TO THE FLOOR A SMALL HANDFUL OF TIMES. NOW, IT IS NEARLY A DAILY OCCURRENCE AND IT IS CONSISTENTLY LASTING LONGER AND LONGER EACH TIME. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME WITHIN A YEAR AND A HALF THAT MY CLUTCH SYSTEM HAS WENT COMPLETELY OUT WHILE DRIVING. WHILE DRIVING I COULD NOT GET THE CLUTCH PEDAL TO ENGAGE THE CLUTCH. IT WAS BECOMING INCREASINGLY MORE DIFFICULT TO GET THE CLUTCH TO SHIFT INTO GEAR EVEN WITH THE PEDAL PUSHED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THIS IS THE VERY SAME SITUATION THAT HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME THE CLUTCH SYSTEM WENT OUT AT ABOUT 60,000 MILES. THE MECHANIC CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY SAID THEY KNEW THAT THERE WAS AN KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE NISSAN ALTIMA SER 2006 AND ITS CLUTCH SYSTEM. I HAVE A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA SE-R WITH A 6 CYLINDER ENGINE AND A 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. PERIODICALLY THROUGHOUT THE LAST 30 MONTHS THE CLUTCH WOULD FALL TO THE FLOOR WHILE DRIVING, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SHIFT. THE SOLUTION WAS TO CATCH THE CLUTCH WITH THE DRIVER'S TOE AND RAISE IT MANUALLY BACK INTO POSITION EACH TIME PRIOR TO A SHIFT. THIS IS DIFFICULT, DISTRACTING, AND DANGEROUS AND COULD EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I REPORTED IT TO MY DEALERSHIP BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE IT AND THEREFORE DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS MONTH, AT 38,000 MILES, THE CLUTCH HAS FALLEN TO THE FLOOR AND HAS REMAINED STUCK THERE, RENDERING THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY UNDRIVEABLE. THE DEALER NOW RECOMMENDS REPLACING THE MASTER AND SLAVE CLUTCH CYLINDERS, HOWEVER THEY INTEND TO CHARGE $709.97 FOR IT. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECTIVE PART SINCE IT HAS HAD PROBLEMS FROM 6,000 MILES ON AND IS REPORTED BY MANY OTHER NISSAN OWNERS AS WELL ON INTERNET FORUMS. THE NOISE WENT AWAY, HOWEVER THE STALLING AND GEAR STICKING DID NOT. THE CAR WENT BACK IN AND THIS TIME THEY TOLD US IT WAS A BAD CAMSHAFT POSITIONING SENSOR. I EXPLAINED TO THE SERVICE MGR THAT THE CAMSHAFT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE TRANSMISSION. HE INSISTED THIS WAS THE PROBLEM AND THE CAR WAS "FIXED" ONCE AGAIN. GUESS WHAT, THE CAR STALLED AND STUCK IN 5TH GEAR THAT EVENING. BACK TO THE SHOP !!... THIS TIME ON A TOW TRUCK. I TOLD THEM TO KEEP THE CAR AS LONG AS NEEDED UNTIL IT IS FIXED. THEY TELL US THAT THE CAR IS "FIXED" ONCE AGAIN. THIS TIME THEY SAY THE ENTIRE COMPUTER IS NO GOOD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I'LL PICK UP THE CAR ON MONDAY. LETS SEE IF IT IS "FIXED" NOW. AFTER OWNING THE CAR FOR ONLY 3 MONTHS, I LOST TOTAL ACCELERATION RESPONSE. DRIVING THE CAR FROM A DEAD STOP TO 60 MPH TOOK NEARLY A MILE, I WAS SO AFRAID THE CAR WOULDN'T MAKE IT OVER A BRIDGE. DRIVING THE CAR TO THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS A NIGHTMARE, I WAS SO SCARED WHILE ACCELERATED THAT ANYONE DOING THE SPEED LIMIT WOULD CRASH INTO THE BACK OF MY CAR. THE DEALER TOOK 2-3 DAYS JUST TO INFORM ME MY CLUTCH WENT BAD. THEY SAID I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH FOR $1000 AND THE FLYWHEEL FOR $500 BOTH NOT UNDER WARRANTY. MIND YOU THE $30,000.00 DOLLAR CAR IS ONLY 3-4 MONTHS OLD WITH A 10 YEAR/100K WARRANTY. NISSAN HAS ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THIS BY: CHANGING THE OIL AND FILTER, PROMISING TO MONITOR THE LEVEL - SUBJECT TO ANOTHER TRIP TO THE DEALER- AT 700 SUBSEQUENT MILES, THEY WILL THEN PROVIDE AN UNKNOWN 'FIX' TO THE ISSUE IF THE OIL LEVEL HAS DECREASED TO THEIR SATISFACTION, IF NO NOTICEABLE DECREASE IN THEIR PERCEPTION, THEN MONITOR ANOTHER 700 MILES - RETURN TO DEALER AGAIN AND HAVE THEM REVIEW, POSSIBLE FIX IS TO REPLACE THE ENGINE AT THAT TIME. THE CONCERN IS THAT WHEN ONE PURCHASES A NEW VEHICLE, IF THE MANUFACTURE KNEW OF THE DEFECT AND POTENTIAL HAZARD, THEN THE SALE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ALLOWED. A 22000 VEHICLE THAT IS BRAND NEW SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO BE SOLD AND HAVE CONSUMERS ASKED TO CONTINUE TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE. I DO HOPE THIS IS INVESTIGATED. I UNDERSTAND THAT A TOTAL OF 80000 ALTIMAS WERE AFFECTED. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHEN THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, WHY IT DID NOT STOP SALES IMMEDIATELY AND WHY THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT JUST FIX THE ISSUE. I ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT THE VEHICLES WITHIN THE VIN RANGE THAT ARE ON NISSAN DEALER LOTS ARE BEING SENT BACK TO HAVE THE ENGINES REPLACED. NEXT, A PROBLEM AT 1500 MILES WITH THE TRANSMISSION OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS IN SHIFTING AND MAINTAIN GEAR. THIS RESULTED IN THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATING AND THE DEALER 'GETTING A PART' TO FIX IT. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THE ISSUE IS WITH THE TRANSMISSION THAT HAD ONLY 1500 MILES ON IT TO MALFUNCTION. *NM

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION WHETHER THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN OR IDLING. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE CLUTCH HAD BURNED, THE FLY WHEEL HAD HEAT DAMAGE AND THE PRESSURE PLATE WAS WARPED. THOSE COMPONENTS WERE REPLACED, BUT THIS DID NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM.
