Passenger air bag indicator light has been on for 2 years and have been unable to locate issue. All air bag systems test good except error code for passenger side air bag.
At first, the passenger airbag off light always turn on when a person sit on the seat(never turn off). Then few months later the Airbag light on dashboard starts flashing with no reason, 1 long 5 shorts.
The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Altima. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V521000 (Air Bags, Electrical System). The contact called the dealer and made an appointment; however, the contact was informed that the part might not be available for the appointment. The contact arrived for the appointment and was informed 3 hours later that the part needed for the repair was not available. The contact was informed by the dealer that several other dealers and was informed that parts were not available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and informed the contact that other dealers would be contacted for parts availability, and a case was filed. The contact stated that a week later, the contact called the manufacturer again and was informed that the part was found and sent to the local dealer. The contact called the dealer and was informed that there was no knowledge of parts being sent to the dealer location and that there had not been any communication with the manufacturer about parts. The contact stated that upon sitting in the passenger’s seat, the air bag sensor failed to recognize a passenger seated in the passenger’s seat. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown. Parts distribution disconnect.
Passenger airbag warning light is blinking Took to repair shop and tech said OCS is bad and needs replacing Code B1018 comes up I do not understand why there is not a recall because this is a safety Issue
While pulling into a parking spot and coming to a halt, I put the car into park mode. My foot was still on the brake. Instantly the engine went into "overdrive" and lurched forward over a parking curb and through heavy brush and finally came to a stop after hitting a pine tree. The engine was still screaming and the tires still spinning until I hit the off button. I had my foot on the brake the entire time to no avail. The heavy brush slowed the car somewhat. The airbags didn't deploy. I had several witnesses and they all stated they saw my brake lights on. I plowed approx. 50 feet through the brush before hitting the tree. I was the only one involved and was not hurt. This was Thurs. Sept. 28, 2023. It was in a state park and no police report made. Park Ranger took down info.
The passenger side air bag is faulty due to AN INTERRUPTION OF SIGNAL BETWEEN THE OCS AND THE AIR BAG CONTROL UNIT. This has been verified by an independent service center and puts passengers at risk. The airbag will not work without the entire seat being replaced. The airbag light shows that the system is “OFF”. This make and model had a recall issued but my VIN was not included but should have been included.
The passenger air bag has failed. If my passenger has an accident, the air bag will fail to deploy and could be seriously injured. When I took the car in Nissan confirmed the bag was not operational. The insurance company was notified. I had the dealership check the warning message.

When I start my car and let it warm up, then reverse then put it in drive, I put my foot on the gas and the RPMS SHOOT UP TO 3 to 4 RPMS, I have to remove my four from the gas then my car is very slow and stays at 2 1/2 - 3 RPMS for several miles . Checked Fluids etc and still have the same issue with it every day. Also my passenger air bag is always off , no matter if someone who is 50 lbs or 250 lbs it is always off and I can not get it to come on . Finally when using my turn signals my blinkers work but never go off unless I manually do it myself. And I fo not get a warning sound telling me that my blinker is still on . It will stay on for hours if I do not notice it and I am driving long distance.
Air bag light on dash board. Which I don’t know if it’s related to the melting windshield issue. Top of dashboard melting and causing severe reflection on windshield and I almost ran someone over because of the severe windshield glare due to melting dashboard causing blinding reflection. Nissan defect is a liability and negligence which needs to be recalled. This is not a cosmetic issue!!! It is a great safety hazard and easily cause a fatal accident since due to the manufacturer’s defect it is unsafe to drive. This needs to be recalled because they will be held accountable if someone dies.

I CALLED THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP OF SOUTH STRAND NISSAN IN MYRTLE BEACH, SC ON JUNE 10, 2019 AND THEY SAID THERE COULD BE MULTIPLE REASONS FOR THE ISSUES, THAT I NEEDED TO GO AND HAVE THE CAR LOOKED AT. I DO NOT REMEMBER THE AGENTS NAKLME, AND I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO HAVE THEM FIX A PROBLEM THAT I HONESTLY BELIEVE SHOULD NEVER BE AN ISSUE IF TH3Y AND THE NHTSA DID THEIR JOB RIGHT WITH QUALITY/SAFETY CONTROL.

TAKATA RECALL MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN BLINKING SINCE 2014. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP. I CALLED NISSAN AT THE TIME AND THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD PAY 40% OF THE REPAIR. I TOLD THEM I WILL NOT PAY FOR AN AIRBAG REPLACEMENT ESPECIALLY WINCE THE TAKATA RECALL WAS SO PREVALENT. THE DEALERSHIP STATED IT WOULD COST OVER $800.00 TO REPAIR THE AIRBAG (INFORMATION I CAN SEND YOU, IF NECESSARY). I HAD A PASSENGER IN THE VEHICLE SEVERAL WEEKS AGO AND WAS ALMOST IN 'T-BONED' BY ANOTHER DRIVER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WHO RAN A STOP LIGHT. I CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY STATED THEY WERE UNABLE TO ASSIST ME IN THIS MATTER BECAUSE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND YOUR DEPARTMENT NEEDS TO ISSUE THE RECALL. SO I NOW AM ASKING FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE, SO I CAN FINALLY HAVE A DEFECTIVE AIRBAG REPLACED. AS PER MR. BRANDON ONLY PASSENGER SITE AIRBAG WILL NOT WORK. AS PER SHIA BOTH OF AIRBAG NOT GOING TO WORK. IT IS DANGERS AND COST FOR THAT IS AROUND $ 2100.00. I OWN A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A MAJOR HIGHWAY ONE EVENING WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR BEGINS TO SLOW DOWN. I PRESS THE GAS PEDAL AND THE CAR SEEMS TO GO EVEN SLOWER. IT WAS MYSELF AND MY YOUNGEST DAUGHTER. I WAS SCARED TO DEATH. THE SPEED LIMIT ON THE HIGHWAY WAS 70 MPH AND MY CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 35 MPH. I PULLED OVER TO A GAS STATION AND A NICE MAN LOOKED AT THE CAR AND COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. SO GET BACK ON THE WAY TO GO BACK BECAUSE I DIDN'T TRUST THE CAR TO MAKE IT TO MY DESTINATION. IT DID THE AME THING AGAIN. SO I DROVE WITH MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON ALL THE WAY HOME AND PARKED IT. NOW IT DRIVES FINE RIGHT IN THE SMALL TOWN I LIVE IN BUT I CANT DRIVE IT OUT OF TOWN AT ALL, WHICH REALLY DEFEATS THE PURPOSE.
A SERVICE LIGHT APPEARED ON DASHBOARD FAILING MY STATE INSPECTION. I DIDN'T KNOW THERE WAS AN ISSUE UNTIL A DIAGNOSTIC WAS DONE. THE SAME ISSUES WERE REPORTED ON MY CAR THAT ARE THE SAME AS THOUSANDS OF OTHER NISSAN ALTIMAS 2008 THAT WERE RECALLED. HOWEVER NISSAN STATED MY CAR WAS NOT UNDER RECALL EVEN THOUGH I REPORTED THE SAME ISSUES THAT ARE UNDER RECALL. THEY REFUSED TO HELP ME OR GIVE ME ANY OPTIONS. THEY SAID THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY COSTS. THE ISSUES REPORTED UNDER DIAGNOSTIC WAS OCCUPANT SENSOR ( PASSENGER SEAT CUSHION) CODE B 1018.
MY DASH BOARD IS MELTING FROM THE HEAT AND CRACKING ALL AROUND. MY PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT KEEP COMING ON ALONG WITH TIRE SENSOR. HAD SENSOR REPLACE SEVERAL TIME AND HAVE SAME ISSUE.

MY 2008 ALTIMA SEDAN HAD ABOUT 50,000 MILES ON IT WHEN IN DECEMBER 2017 I EXPERIENCED AN AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT THAT FLASHED ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ALONG WITH A WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH THAT INDICATED THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WAS OFF. THESE WARNINGS APPEARED NO MATTER IF THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS EMPTY OR IF AN ADULT PASSENGER OCCUPIED IT. THIS HAPPENED ANYTIME THE CAR WAS RUNNING (STOPPED OR MOVING AT ANY SPEED). I WENT ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED BY ANY ACTIVE RECALLS. FURTHER RESEARCH SHOWED THAT NISSAN VEHICLES HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH PASSENGER AIR BAG WARNINGS RELATED TO SENSORS AND OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEMS FOR A BROAD RANGE OF NISSAN AND INFINITI VEHICLES FOR SEVERAL MODEL YEARS SINCE 2007. THERE WAS ONE NHTSA RECALL (#08V-521) RELATED TO THIS ISSUE THAT COVERED MY MODEL AND YEAR, BUT THIS APPLIED TO ONLY A SMALL GROUP OF NISSAN VEHICLES MANUFACTURED IN 2007-2009 THAT EXHIBITED A SPECIFIC DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE. MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED ONE MONTH AFTER THE LAST MONTH INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL, BUT THE PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG SENSOR WAS MANUFACTURED DURING THE LAST MONTH OF PRODUCTION INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE PROBLEMS WITH THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WARNINGS GO BEYOND THE ORIGINAL RECALL. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE THAT I BELIEVE WARRANTS EXPANSION OF THE ABOVE RECALL OR A NEW RECALL. I DON'T BELIEVE NISSAN IS LIVING UP TO ITS SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES. THE HOSPITAL FOUND MULTIPULE CONTUSIONS, SPRAINS AND STRAINS TO MY CHEST WALL, LOWER BACK, NECK, HANDS AND WRISTS. MY PRIMARY CARE DOCTOR RAN ADDITIONAL TESTS, WHICH FOUND NO ADDITIONAL INJURIES EXCEPT, BOTH HANDS HAD A FRACTURE OF THE 3RD METACARPAL (THE BONE LOCATED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HAND) AND A TEAR OF THE TFCC (TRIANGULAR FIBROCARTILAGE COMPLEX) IN BOTH WRISTS. WHICH IS LOCATED ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE WRISTS. SINCE THE INJURIES TO BOTH HANDS AND WRISTS ARE IDENTICAL AND NO OTHER BROKEN BONES OR SOFT TISSUE TEARS WERE FOUND ON MY BODY, I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED TO FORCEFULLY CAUSING THESE INJURIES TO MY HANDS AND WRISTS. IF THE INJURIES TO MY HANDS AND WRISTS HAD BEEN CAUSED BY THEM HITTING PARTS OF THE INSIDE OF THE CAR, THE INJURIES TO MY HANDS AND WRISTS WOULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT FROM EACH OTHER.

TEST AT AN ADDITIONAL ESTIMATED COST OF $592. IN AN ATTEMPT FOR SOME ASSISTANCE, A CONSUMER COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH NISSAN NORTH AMERICA ONLY TO BE DENIED ASSISTANCE ON THE COST OF THIS REPAIR. THERE WAS A PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT OF A RECALL IN MARCH, 2014 RELATED TO THE RELIABILITY OF GAUGES ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE FRONT SEAT, THAT TELL THE PERSON, AS WELL AS THE MECHANICAL SYSTEM, THAT THE PASSENGER FRONT SEAT AIRBAG IS "NOW ENGAGED" AND READY TO ACTIVATE IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT/EMERGENCY.. FOLLOWING THE ANNOUNCEMENT I TOOK MY 2008 ALTIMA TO THE DEALER TO ENSURE I WAS PART OF THE RECALL. THE DEALER IS AT 3275 SW 8TH STREET, ,MIAMI,, FLORIDA. AND IS CALLED AUTONATION NISSAN. THE SERVICE AGENT TOTAL ME, AFTER CURSORY RESEARCH IN HIS DATA BASE, THAT WHILE MANY, MANY NISSANS WERE RECALLED IN MY MODEL YEAR AND IN MY CAR GROUP, MINE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE SELECTION PROCESS FOR INCLUSION WENT BY SUPPLIER, AND NOT JUST BY TYPE OF CAR AND MODEL YEAR. TO ASCERTAIN IF MY CAR HAD A FAULTY AIR BAG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE FRONT SEAT, I WOULD THEREFORE HAVE TO PAY A $150 UPFRONT DIAGNOSTIC FEE, AND, IF DAMAGE WAS NOTED, I WOULD NEED TO PAY FOR REPAIRS MYSELF, AS MY CAR DID NOT HAVE THE AFFECTED PARTS WHICH WERE PROVIDED BY ONLY SELECT SUPPLIERS. THERE IS A PROBLEM. I HAVE NOTED FOR SOME TIME THAT WHEN A PASSENGER IS SEATED IN THE FRONT, RIGHT SIDE, SEAT, A BEACON LIGHT IN A SMALL SQUARE BOX ON THE DASH BOARD FLASHES ON AND CLEARLY STATES: "PASS. OFF - AIR BAG (X) PSG.. 2" THE REFERENCE FROM THE LIGHT LEAVES ONE WITH THE IMPRESSION THE AIR BAG, FOR THE PASSENGER IS NOT ACTIVATED. DURING A DRIVE, NO SET TIME PERIOD NOTED, THE LIGHT WILL GO OFF FOR A WHILE, AND LATER, COME BACK ON AGAIN. I AM CONVINCED THAT AT SOME CERTAIN POINTS THE SYSTEM IS TRYING TO TELL ME IT IS NOT ACTIVATED.. OF ALL THE CARS INVOLVED IN THE NISSAN RECALL, HOW COULD IT POSSIBLY BE THAT MINE IS EXCLUDED??? A REPORT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT THE DEALER WOULD NOT ALLOW THE CONTACT TO DRIVE AN UNSAFE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 14,000.

I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA IN JULY 2008. I HAVE HAD ONGOING PROBLEMS WITH THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT TURNING ON AND OFF WHILE I HAVE A PASSENGER WHO WEIGHS 125LBS. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNS ON, THIS MEANS THE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY. I'VE TAKEN MY CAR TO THE DEALER TWICE FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THEY SAID THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE IT NOR FIX IT. I'VE CALLED THE NISSAN CONSUMER HOTLINE NUMBER MORE THAN A DOZEN TIMES AND JUST SEEM TO GET THE RUN AROUND. I'M TOLD MY FILE WAS "ASSIGNED" TO SOMEONE, BUT THIS "SOMEONE" CAN'T SEEM TO RETURN CALLS NOR ANSWER MY CALLS. I'M ASTOUNDED THAT THIS PROBLEM WITH MY AIRBAG IS NOT ELEVATED TO A PRIORITY STATUS AS THERE WILL BE A VERY LARGE LAWSUIT AGAINST NISSAN IF MY PASSENGER IS INJURED OR KILLED DUE TO THE MALFUNCTIONING AIRBAG SENSOR. PASSENGER AIR BAG ON PASSENGER SIDE SHOWS DISABLED WITH MY KIDS THAT ARE OVER 110 LBS IN THE SEAT. I HAD THE DEALER REVIEW THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOT AN ISSUE. WAS TOLD TO LOOK IN THE MANUAL AND THAT THE PERSON HAD TO SIT IN THE SEAT CORRECTLY OR THEY ARE TO LIGHT. THE SEATING WAS NOT THE PROBLEM, THE CAR IS. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE AIR BAG BLADDER IN THE SEAT IS VERY EASY TO MISS IF NOT SITTING FULLY IN THE BACK OF THE SEAT, WRONG THE PERSON IS SITTING FINE. IF I STOP THE CAR PUT IN PARK AND BACK IN DRIVE THE AIRBAG RE-ACTIVATES. THIS HAS HAPPENED WITH MULTIPLE PEOPLE MULTIPLE TIMES MOSTLY DURING THE FIRST DRIVE OF THE DAY. *TR

DRIVER'S SEAT ON '08 NISSAN ALTIMA MOVES SIDE TO SIDE AS YOU GO AROUND TURNS; VERY DISCONCERTING. FIRST RESPONSE FROM DEALERSHIP WAS "WE CAN NOT REPLICATE, AND THIS IS THE FIRST ONE WE'VE HEARD OF". NEXT VISIT I WAS TOLD "NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, AND SHOULD HAVE A FIX IN 30 DAYS OR SO". THAT WAS 45 DAYS AGO. 2ND PROBLEM, MY PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON A LOT OF THE TIME MY WIFE IS SEATED IN THE SEAT. SHE'S ABOUT 150 POUNDS, SO THERE SHOULD NOT BE A WEIGHT PROBLEM. HAD IT IN TWICE FOR THIS, AND ANOTHER "CAN NOT REPLICATE". I'M CONCERNED THAT IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION, SHE WILL HAVE NO AIR BAG PROTECTION. *TR

THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SYSTEM WILL NOT ACTIVATE WHEN A PERSON OCCUPIES THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE OCCUPANT WEIGHS MORE THE 100LBS AND SITS IN A NORMAL FASHION ON THE SEAT. DEALER INSPECTED BUT DID NOT FIND ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK FOR A PASSENGER IN THIS CAR. *TR

THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG TURNS ITSELF OFF SPORADICALLY WHEN I (160 LBS) OR MY HUSBAND (190 LBS) SIT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER TWICE. THE SECOND TIME THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT NISSAN STATED THAT MY AIRBAG SENSOR WAS OPERATING AS PER SPECIFICATION. THERE IS NO MANUAL OVERRIDE SWITCH TO FORCE THE AIRBAG TO INFLATE DURING A CRASH. THE OWNER'S MANUAL STATES THAT THE AIRBAG MAY TURN ITSELF OFF WHEN SMALL ADULTS ARE SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, BUT OFFERS NO SOLUTION FOR THIS SITUATION. DOES THIS MEAN THAT NISSAN IS WILLFULLY DEPRIVING SMALL ADULTS (AND, IN OUR CASE, NOT SO SMALL ADULTS) OF THEIR AIRBAG PROTECTION? THIS IS A FATAL DESIGN FLAW. THERE MUST BE A RECALL TO INSTALL A MANUAL OVERRIDE SWITCH FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT AIRBAG. THE CAR'S COMPUTER MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO DECIDE WHO GETS AN AIRBAG AND WHO DOESN'T. *TR
