The drive train I believe it’s called Or transmission is malfunctioning and yes it is available for inspection upon request Our safety was put in risk when the vehicle started driving at a low speed and would not accelerate eventually stopping completely The problem hasn’t been inspected or confirmed by a dealer or service center There was no warning lamps or messages prior to the failure

In 2018 I was driving back home from Derby, Kansas to Denver, Colorado in the middle of summertime, and my air conditioner started blowing hot air and the AC did not need to be charged. This was in my 2008 Nissan Altima Coupe that I purchased in April 2008 with 4 miles on it and have taken amazing care of it and still have it to this day and is in excellent condition other than these issues. About an hour later, my car starting making a revving noise when I accelerated but my car was not accelerating and I would have to pull off on the side of the road, in 100 degree weather, no air conditioning, with my dogs, and wait for 30 minutes and then I could start driving for about 10 minutes, and then I had to repeat this all the way back to Denver. A normally 8 hour trip took me over 20 hours due to this. I have to rent a car now I go out of town because I am not going to pay to fix whatever is wrong with it when this is obviously a major problem because there have been so many reports. I drive it when going on short trips so its driven, but its pretty much been non-reliable since 2018. I hope there is a thorough investigation of this and a recall is done because this is crazy and was not safe at all to drive and it actually still happens when it is hot out and I drive more than 30 minutes. No error lights come on and all gagues are normal and no mechanics can seem to figure it out so I can't get it fixed. I will never buy a brand new car again because a used one will last longer, and definitely not a Nissan or anything affiliated or has parts made buy them.

I JUST PURCHASED MY NISSAN NOT EVEN 3 MONTHS AGO AND I'VE HAD TO HAVE IT IN THE 4-5 SHOPS BECAUSE NOBODY COULD FIGURE OUT WHY IT WAS GIVING THE CODE P0335. FINALLY FOUND OUT IT'S THE TIMING CHAIN. I CANT DRIVE MY OWN CAR BECAUSE OF IT AND I FEEL LIKE I GOT ROBBED OF MY MONEY. THE DAM CAR IS STUCK IN LIMP MODE. WE WAS DRIVING ONE DAY AND ALL OF SUDDEN THE CAR JERKED REALLY HARD AN LOST POWER DIDNT HAVE A CLUE WHAT WAS GOING ON.

WE WERE DRIVING ON I-695 IN BALTIMORE AREA WHEN I STARTED TO NOTICE THAT WHILE PRESSING ACCELERATION PADDLE, THE CAR WAS NOT MOVING FORWARD. IT STARTED TO STALL AND EVENTUALLY STOPPED COMPLETELY. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL IT TO THE CURBSIDE BEFORE A COLLISION MAY HAVE OCCURRED. BUT SOMEONE WITH LESS DRIVING CAPABILITIES MAY HAVE ENDED UP IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE CAR STALLING WITHOUT ANY WARNING. LATER ON I FOUND OUT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NISSAN DIDN'T CARE AT ALL WHEN I CONTACTED THEM. I GOT TRANSMISSION REPLACED MYSELF. I THOUGHT I SHOULD SPEAK OUT ABOUT THIS BECAUSE A TRANSMISSION STALLING A VEHICLE AT NEARLY 65 MPH IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSES.

NOW THE CAR IS USING ABOUT 1 GALLON OF OIL EVERY 3 WEEKS AND WE FOUND THAT CYLINDER 3 HAS PISTON RINGS THAT ARE SHOT. OUR DEALERSHIP CONFIRMS THAT THIS ENGINE IS KNOWN FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I NOTICED THAT THE 2006 MODEL ALTIMA WITH A 2.5 L ENGINE HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ISSUED BECAUSE THE CAR USES EXCESSIVE OIL AND AN ENGINE FIRE MAY RESULT. OUR NEWER MODEL WITH THE SAME ENGINE NEARLY RUNS OUT OF OIL EVERY MONTH AND IS VERY HOT. DO WE HAVE ANY RECOURSE WITH NISSAN? ANYONE ELSE HAVING THESE PROBLEMS?

WHILE BEING SHIFTED INTO REVERSE FROM A STOP IN A PARKING SPACE, OUR '08 NISSAN ALTIMA COUPE 6SPMT MADE A LOUD CLUNK FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THE CLUTCH PEDAL WENT IMMEDIATELY TO THE FLOOR. THE SHARED BRAKE/CLUTCH RESERVOIR WAS FOUND TO BE DRAINED TO THE LEVEL OF THE CLUTCH TAKEOFF. WHILE THIS PRESENTED NO IMMEDIATE SAFETY ISSUES, HAD IT HAPPENED WHILE SHIFTING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, I CAN IMAGINE IT WOULD BE, TO SAY THE LEAST, HIGHLY DISTRACTING FOR THE TYPICAL DRIVER AND PERHAPS MORE SO FOR A LESS EXPERIENCED ONE. I HAVE EXPERIENCED CLUTCH FAILURES IN OTHER CARS BUT TYPICALLY THE SYSTEM DETERIORATES SLOWLY, UNLIKE THIS SUDDEN FAILURE. I HAVE DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE MYSELF (COMPETENT DIY MECHANIC) AND BASED UPON NO SIGNS OF LEAKAGE OR MECHANICAL FAILURE IN THE AREA OF THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER OR RESERVOIR, BUT BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING FROM THE TRANSAXLE, I AM CONFIDENT THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER OR AN INTERNAL HYDRAULIC LINE HAS FAILED. CVT TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT 82,139 MILES. AN EXTENSION OF THE WARRANTY WAS DONE FOR A LARGE NUMBER OF CVT TRANSMISSIONS EXTENDING TO 120,000 MILES. MY DAUGHTERS VEHICLE IS AT 147,000 MILES AND THE CAR JUST ABOUT QUIT RUNNING ON THE INTERSTATE 55 SOUTH ON HER WAY BACK TO COLLEGE. WE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED 200 MILES HOME AND THE TRANSMISSION MUST BE REPLACED AGAIN AT A COST OF $3500 AND THE CAR IS NOT WORTH THAT MUCH MONEY. NISSAN DID NOT CORRECT THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, THEY JUST PUT ANOTHER CVT TRANSMISSION IN THE FIRST TIME. THIS WAS AN UNSAFE AND UNETHICAL PRACTICE. THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT NOR GIVE ANY CREDIT BECAUSE THEY SAY THERE ARE TOO MANY MILES ON THE CAR. ALTHOUGH THERE IS ONLY 65,000 MILES ON THE TRANSMISSION ITSELF.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE TRANSMISSION, BUT DECLINED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND A CASE WAS OPENED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REGISTERED UNDER A SALVAGED TITLE IN 2014 AND THE WARRANTY WAS VOIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,470.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD PAY FOR HALF OF THE REPAIRS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,000.

FIRST CVT FAILED AT 117,240 AND REPLACED BY STANDARD WARRANTY BY NISSAN. THE REPLACEMENT CVT CURRENTLY STALLS AT LOW SPEEDS, 5-10 MPH, WHILE TAKING OFF. ON 03/02/2017, 151,551 MILES, LESS THAN 35,000 MILES SINCE THE FIRST CVT WAS REPLACED, THE DEALERSHIP, MCGAVOCK NISSAN, LUBBOCK, TX, DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM. THEIR SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE REPLACEMENT CVT. I CALLED NISSAN USA. NISSAN USA CALLED BACK AND ADVISED THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE CVT BECAUSE THE REPLACEMENT CVT WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED, 12 MONTHS AND/OR 12,000 MILES. NISSAN USA WAS OF NO HELP. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT ONLY ANNOYING, IT POSES A DANGER TO MY FAMILY! THE VEHICLE IS STILL RUNNING, HOWEVER, IT IS HARD TO CROSS A BUSY STREET BECAUSE IT STALLS ON TAKEOFF. DANGEROUS! I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CVT IS A FAILURE TOP TO BOTTOM. NISSAN NEEDS TO DO THE RIGHT THING! DON'T INSTALL THIS TYPE TRANSMISSION IN THEIR VEHICLES!

WHEN MOVING ON CITY STREET OR HIGHWAY CAR DOES NOT PICKUP SPEED WHEN PRESSING ON GAS PEDAL, THEN IT JUMPS AND SPEEDS UP QUICKLY. IF CAR IS GOING UP INCLINE IT BARELY MOVES, THEN JUMPS IN GEAR. STOPPED AT A LIGHT OR WAITING FOR CARS TO MOVE, MY CAR BARELY MOVES-THEN PICKS UP SPEED, GOING TOO FAST. I HAD CAR CHECKED AT COLONIAL NISSAN IN FESTERVILLE PA, THEY CLAIM NOTHING WRONG WITH MY EVENTHOUGH I HAD A CERTIFIED TRANSMISSION TECH SAID THE PROBLEM IS THE CVT-TRANSMISSION. TRANSMISSION RECALL. THE CVT TRANSMISSION IS BAD ON THESE ON MODEL ALTIMAS. THEY OVERHEAT AND LOSE ALL POWER AND THE CAR WONT ACCELERATE . I HAVE BEEN ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN MANY PLACES, I ALMOST GOT HIT THE LAST TIME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY. YOU CAN'T DRIVE MORE THAN 2 HOURS AT 70 WITHOUT IT HAPPENING. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP SIGN, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND FAILED TO RESPOND. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. IT WAS WINDY MORNING AT 3 AM ON 70 W AND SUDDENLY MY CAR'S CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT STARTED BLINKING, AND MY CAR STARTED TO LOSE ITS ACCELERATION (WHILE IN MOTION ON HIGHWAY 70).WITH A DOUBLE TRAILER TRUCK BEHIND MY CAR A FEW OTHER TRUCKS LINED BEHIND IT, MY CAR LOST ACCELERATION AND IT FELL UNDER 40 MILES IN A FEW DREADFUL SECONDS ON A NATIONAL HIGHWAY. MY CAR CONTINUOUSLY WIGGLED AS IT KEPT DROPPING SPEED WITH A WHISTLING SOUND FROM THE ENGINE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. I CALLED CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A CALL ON FRIDAY, SEPT. 18 FROM NISSAN'S REGIONAL SPECIALIST, QUINASHAY, THAT MORE INFORMATION WAS BEING GATHERED FROM SHEEHY NISSAN. RECEIVED CALL FROM QUINASHAY SAYING THAT THERE WAS NOTHING NISAN COULD DO FOR ME BECAUSE I WAS OUTSIDE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PERIOD! THIS IS MY THIRD NISSAN PURCHASE FROM NISSAN STANZA TO A COUPLE OF NISSAN ALTIMAS, ALWAYS UPGRADING. I'VE BEEN A LOYAL NISSAN CUSTOMER AND FOR WHAT! NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD BE TREATED THIS WAY.

MY CVT TRANSMISSION WENT OUT WITH 126K MILES. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF ANY RECALLS REGARDING THE TRANSMISSION AND THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW. I STARTED HEARING THE INFAMOUS "WHINING NOISE" ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN AROUND 100K MILES. HAD I BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE RECALLS I WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE WHINING A LITTLE MORE SERIOUS AND RESEARCHED IT. WELL, TOO LATE BUT AFTER THE FACT I FOUND MANY YOUTUBE VIDEOS AND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS FROM PEOPLE WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. IF YOU HEAR THIS WHINING NOISE, IT'S YOUR TRANSMISSION. NISSAN KNOWS THEY PUT OUT A GARBAGE TRANSMISSION WHICH IS WHY THEY DOUBLED THE WARRANTY ON IT TO 10 YEARS OR 120K MILES. CONVENIENTLY, MINE DID NOT GO OUT UNTIL 126K. I BOUGHT THIS CAR THREE YEARS AGO WITH 17K MILES. YES, I DRIVE A LOT BUT IT'S FOR WORK AND IT'S PRIMARILY HIGHWAY MILEAGE. I WOULDN'T HAVE EVER EXPECTED THE TRANSMISSION TO GO OUT IN A CAR THIS NEW. WHEN MY CAR BROKE DOWN I CALLED MY MECHANIC, WHO IS ASE CERTIFIED, AND SUPER TRUSTWORTHY. HE CAME AND TOWED IT, RAN DIAGNOSTICS ON IT AND DETERMINED IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION. I CALLED NISSANUSA AND WAS ADVISED TO HAVE IT TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT OFFER ASSISTANCE UNTIL AN AUTHORIZED DEALER DIAGNOSED IT. I DID JUST THAT, PAID THE DEALER $150 TO TELL ME WHAT I ALREADY KNEW (BAD TRANSMISSION), ONLY TO HAVE NISSANUSA DENY ME ASSISTANCE AFTER THE DEALER CONFIRMED IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION. ON 9/6 AT APPROX. 3:30PM MNT THE CAR BEGAN HAVING ISSUES ACCELERATING PAST 60 MPH ON I-70 E IN COLORADO. AT TIMES IT WOULD EVEN START DE-ACCELERATING. AROUND 4PM, SMOKE WAS COMING OUT OF THE FRONT HOOD. MY BOYFRIEND AND I THEN PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, AND AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES WE NOTICED THAT TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE CAR. AFTER BEING TOWED TO THE MECHANIC ABOUT 20 MILES AWAY, HE WORKED ON THE CAR FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND COMPLETED AN OFFICIAL DIAGNOSTIC. HE SAID THE TRANSMISSION FLUID HAD OVERFLOWED FROM THE TRANSMISSION AND THAT WE COULD HAVE HAD A FIRE ON THE HIGHWAY. HE ALSO CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS BLOWN AND THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVABLE. WE HAD TO STORE THE CAR IN THE MECHANIC'S PARKING LOT FOR THE NIGHT AND GET A RENTAL CAR. WE THEN HAD TO STAY IN A HOTEL FOR THE NIGHT IN GRAND JUNCTION, CO. THE NEXT DAY WE CALLED AROUND TO FIND A NISSAN SERVICE CENTER THAT WOULD BE OPEN TO ACCEPTING THE CAR AND COULD GET THE PARTS IN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME GIVEN THAT WE WERE STRANDED IN COLORADO. WE FOUND A SERVICE CENTER IN AURORA ABOUT 250 MILES AWAY FROM GRAND JUNCTION. WE WORKED WITH AAA TO GET THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP JUST BEFORE THEY CLOSED. SINCE THEY WERE CLOSING THE NISSAN SERVICE CENTER DID NOT HAVE TIME TO LOOK AT THE CAR UNTIL MONDAY. I ENDED UP BEING STRANDED IN COLORADO FOR A 6 DAYS WITH MY BOYFRIEND, UNTIL THE CAR WAS FIXED. I AM VERY DISPLEASED WITH NISSAN'S CUSTOMER SERVICE. I CALLED SPECIALISTS FOR 3 DAYS WITH NO HELP. THEY HAVE REFUSED TO COMPENSATE ME FOR THE OTHER DAMAGES INCURRED BY THE FAULTY TRANSMISSION. THIS TRIP COST $2,000 IN UNEXPECTED COSTS DUE TO BE STRANDED,AND MY LIFE WAS PUT IN DANGER BECAUSE NONE OF THE NISSAN SERVICE ADVISER'S TOLD ME ABOUT THE ISSUES WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION (I TOOK MY CAR TO BE CHECKED BEFORE THE ROAD TRIP IN MAY 2013 AND LATE AUGUST 2013). *JS

I ASKED IF THEY WOULD CHECK THE COMPUTER TO SEE WHAT IT SAID AND THEY SAID IT WOULDN'T READ W/O A CODE. I TOOK THE CAR 10/1/12 TO BANKSTON NISSAN IN DALLAS (THE CAR DROVE FINE ALL THE WAY HOME) AND THEY SAID IT MAY BE TOO MUCH CVT FLUID. TOOK IT IN AND THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE ISSUE AND THE FLUID WAS FINE - DID NOT NEED TO BE CHANGED OR ANYTHING. I HAVE 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5 S WHICH HAS PUSH BUTTON START. I.E. PERSON HAS TO PUSH BUTTON AND PRESS BRAKE AT SAME TIME TO START THE ENGINE. IT KEEP SAYING PRESS BRAKE (ACCESSORIES / RADIO ETC ALL TURN ON). SO THE CYCLE OF ACCESSORIES - ON- OFF KEPT ON HAPPENING. I THOUGHT BATTERY IS WEAK AND EVEN TRIED JUMP START. SO, AFTER TRYING PUSHING BRAKE + BUTTON FOR 30MINUTES , CAR FINALLY STARTED. THIS HAPPENED 2-3 TIMES AND I GOT VERY FRUSTRATED....FINALLY I STARTED READING ONLINE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. UPON VISUAL INSPECTION OF ENGINE COMPARTMENT, A RUBBER SEAL ON THE ECM WIRING HARNESS WAS FOUND BUCKLED UP. ON TRYING TO REMOVE AND RE-INSERT THE HARNESS, IT WAS FOUND THAT ECM TERMINALS HAD CORRODED AND SOME PIN CONTACT HAD ACTUALLY FALLEN OFF. UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH, THIS WAS FOUND TO BE AN ISSUE COVERED UNDER FEDERAL EMISSIONS WARRANTY. DRIVER/OWNER CALLED THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHO IMMEDIATELY, PRESUMABLY AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE, TOWED THE CAR TO THEIR FACILITY, CHECKED AND FOUND THE ECM TO BE FAULTY BUT BLAMED THE FAULTY WIRING HARNESS FOR THE FAILURE. AND FURTHER, THE DEALER CLAIMED SINCE THE HARNESS CARRIES A 3 YEAR WARRANTY AND WAS THE "CAUSE" OF THE ECM FAILURE, THIS WAS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER FEDERAL EMISSIONS WARRANTY RESULTING IN A BILL OF $2,000+ FOR REPLACING THE FAULTY - CORRODED - WIRING HARNESS AND THE FAULTY ECM. ATTEMPTS TO HAVE THE DEALER DO MORE RESEARCH OR CONTACT NISSAN USA FOR ADVISE FELL ON DEAF EARS. IF THE CAR HAD STALLED ON HIGH SPEED AND CAUSED FATALITIES ON THE HIGHWAY, WOULD THESE REPAIRS THEN HAVE BEEN "PART" OF FEDERAL EMISSIONS WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR PUBLICITY PURPOSES? FROM A COMPLETE STOP, PLACED FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL, PUT TRANSMISSION INTO FORWARD, RELEASED FOOT FROM BRAKE PEDAL, VEHICLE ACCELERATED INTO REVERSE WITHOUT TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL CAUSING AN ACCIDENT INTO A PARKED CAR. TEN DAYS LATER, FROM A COMPLETE STOP, PLACED FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL, PUT TRANSMISSION INTO REVERSE, RELEASED FOOT FROM BRAKE PEDAL, VEHICLE ACCELERATED FORWARD WITHOUT TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL CAUSING AN ACCIDENT INTO A TREE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS STUCK IN THE UP POSITION WHILE DEPRESSING THE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO MOVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THEY ALSO REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE LEVER ASSEMBLY. UPDATED 11/05/10 THE CONSUMER STATED AS HE BACKED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, HE THEN PUT THE GEAR IN DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE BEYOND 5 MPH. AFTER ABOUT 100 FEET OF A SLOW ROLL AND TRYING TO ENGAGE THE ACCELERATOR, IT CAUGHT WITH A LURCH. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, THE TRANSMISSION WAS OVERFILLED WITH FLUID, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SHUT DOWN. UPDATED 12/22/10*JB

2008 ALTIMA 2.5S WAS ON 35-35 DEGREE INCLINE WITH FRONT FACING UPHILL. AS I WAS EXITING THE VEHICLE, IT POPPED OUT OF PARK AND INTO NEUTRAL. BEFORE I COULD STOP IT, THE DRIVER DOOR CAUGHT ON NEIGHBORING YARD/HILL AND BENT FORWARD. DAMAGE TO REAR BUMPER AS WELL. DAMAGE TOTALED APPROXIMATELY $3700. NISSAN SAID THEIR FILED TECH COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. I HAVE FOUND 7 OTHER INSTANCES OF THIS HAPPENING BUT THEY DID NOT SEEM TO CARE. 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5 4 CYLINDER WITH CVT TRANSMISSION, WHEN PULLING OUT ON HIGHWAY THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE NORMALLY AT FIRST (0 TO 25 MPH) BUT THEN WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND COASTED INTO TRAFFIC NEARLY CAUSING ACCIDENT. THIS HAPPENED TWICE MORE ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE PROBLEM HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY AND HAS BEEN REPORTED TO A NISSAN DEALER TWICE FOR REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHEN LACK OF ACCELERATION HAPPENED 3 TIMES AND TWICE THE DEALER RESET THE CODE, CHANGE THE FLUID AND REPROGRAM THE COMPUTER AND SAID IT WAS JUST A FLUKE AND THAT IT FOUND NO HARDWARE PROBLEMS. THE NISSAN CVT TRANSMISSION CONTROL ELECTRONICS ARE UNRELIABLE, UNSAFE AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. THIS RECURRING PROBLEM VERY NEARLY RESULTED IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT TODAY. *TR

CVT TRANSMISSION IS WARMED UP AFTER APPROXIMATELY THIRTY MINUTES OF DRIVING. ONCE WARM, FROM A COMPLETE STOP, I LIGHTLY ACCELERATE TO 20MPH. THE RPMS DROP SLIGHTLY AND MORE ACCELERATION IS NECESSARY TO DRIVE FASTER THAN 20MPH. I PRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO ABOUT HALF WAY DOWN AND THE VEHICLE SHUDDERS/SURGES THREE TO FIVE TIMES THEN ACCELERATES RAPIDLY. THIS CAUSES YOUR NECK TO SNAP BACK AND THE VEHICLE TO LOOSE CONTROL. NO ACCIDENT YET BUT IT COULD EASILY HAPPEN. TAKEN TO NISSAN DEALER IN CALIFORNIA WHO CALLED IT A "NORMAL OPERATING CONDITION" AND SENT ME HOME. STILL FIGHTING WITH NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE. *TR

PURCHASED A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA, DROVE THE CAR FOR 3,000 MILES. CVT TRANSMISSION STARTED MAKING STRANGE NOISES. TURNED OUT TO BE DEFECTIVE. THEY REPLACED IT, BUT DID NOT PUT IT BACK TOGETHER PROPERLY. BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IT EVER SINCE. NOV 30, 2009 TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE, HAD THEM EXAMINE TRANSMISSION AGAIN FOR A GRINDING NOISE. THEY DID NOT "SEE" ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT BUT ACKNOWLEDGED TRANSMISSION COULD BE DEFECTIVE. CAR IS GOING IN FOR MORE "TESTS". NISSAN EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS 120,000 MILES FOR CVT'S, HOWEVER I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. *TR

THE OTHER DAY WENT TO BRAKE AT 14 MPH IN VERY HEAVY TRAFFIC ON THE FREEWAY DURING RUSH HOUR AND BRAKES LOCKED UP AND HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO AVOID A COLLISION (MIND YOU I WAS ONE CAR LENGTH BEHIND THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME).
