1) What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The cylinders are constantly misfiring. 2 )How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Yes. 3) Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. 4) Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes, by a private auto service center. 5) Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No. 6) Problem description: The service technician from the repair shop tried replacing the plug, coil, injector but it still misfires. Later the technician reported that this is a problem listed as recall (Recall Reference number : NTB13-056a, Campaign ID: PC131) for 2007-2008 Nissan Altima, but the same problem exists in 2009 Nissan Altima and is not listed as recall. Links for references are given below. The technician is sure that it is the same problem and NISSAN should fix it by recalling instead of asking the Owners to pay for this known recall issue. Repairing this issue by owners, would cost them several thousand dollars and is definitely not worth for a 2009 car. So I request the authorities to enforce this known issue as a recall to 2009 NISSAN ATLIMA as well as it has been done for 2007 and 2008 NISSAN ALTIMAs. Thanks and Regards. The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds, there was an abnormal clanking sound coming from the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle was driving rough. The contact stated that the ABS, brake, check engine, and TPMS warning lights were illuminated. The contact called the local dealer and was informed that there were no recalls for the failure on the VIN. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the strut housings had failed. The manufacturer was contacted, but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 184,000.

Purchased the vehicle from Quality Auto sales llc.had tge vehicle less than 48 hours in traffic stopped. Had it towed to find they just put it together to rode off the lot but transmission is gone. Brought as is could have lost my life. Paid 6990.25.i feel misled and cheated tried to see if they would exchange the vehicle even pay half the cost of repairs. The answer no. I really believe this place us misleading the community and doing so by hiding behind as is. The know these vehicles need extensive work but misguided the public. This could have cost me my life and I pray someone inspects this dealership hold them liable for these vehicles they are selling which could cause a very fatal accident because their more money hungry than ones personal safety. Please please help. Thus happen on my birthday same day I git news my mom has cancer and she lives 4hours away no vehicle to get her to moffitt. So unfair. They are very unprofessional as well talking over you etc. Major complaints with the attorney general's office within the last 2 months. This one is big please stop them

I went to Autoworx on February 9, 2023 to purchase a 2009 Nissan Altima. The vehicle was very nice, looked good, no warning lights or anything. Drove great for about a week or 2. Then the car started breaking without me pressing the breaks. So I returned the car to Autoworx to have them check it out. The mechanic was assuring that the problem had been taking care of. After making another large payment that day, I left drove the car about a week. That's when the car started shaking. I mean shaking hard too and the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light comes on the dash board. So I take the car back to them on Monday March 13, 2023. The mechanic says "oh, make an appointment for Friday and I'll take the car to the shop so I can see what is going on". I made the appointment & continued to drive the car. In the days between Monday to Friday, the car began shaking harder. Suddenly, on Thursday March 16, 2023,while driving home the car stops accelerating. I had to keep turning the car off and on to get it going. On Friday, March 17, 2023 I arrived at the Autoworx location at 10:30am (the appointment time). When I arrived no one was there. We sat and waited for nearly an hr and a half. Once they arrived they looked at the car, drove it away and came back. After sitting there for 2/3 hours, the Owner [XXX] called me outside to inform me that the Catalytic Converter was bad (which they knew on Monday when I came in) and by me driving the car longer, the Transmission has went out. At this point I am FURIOUS! Because at NO point did they tell me that the car needed a Catalytic Converter. So we sat there a little longer with no way to go home. [XXX] then comes and mentions "I'll get you all an UBER". He ordered the Uber (just to get us away). I have looked into the Carfax on the 2009 Nissan Altima and found that the Odometer had been rolled back SEVERAL times. I bought the car at 121,000 miles. The vehicle was working just fine when I went to the grocery store and came out. I unlocked the car using the key fob, sat inside and the car stopped detected my key. The steering was locked, I tried to place it near the start push button, tried putting it in the slot but nothing happened. And I tried unlock button couple of times on the key fob and the mirrors went down. And there was no way to pull them up and I was stranded in the parking lot for no reason. I got it towed to the dealership and they told me Steering Lock Module went bad which is a common issue in 2009 Nissan Altima. Its a safety issue as I can get stranded anywhere anytime! And they are fixing it for 1300$ bucks! Please recall all 2009 Nissan Altima and change this part in them!

MY WIFE DRIVES OUR 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5S TO WORK ON 3RD SHIFT AND ON HER LUNCH BREAK GOES TO HER CAR AND TAKES A NAP WITH THE CAR RUNNING AND WAS COMPLAINING TO ME FOR A MONTH OR MORE THAT SHE HAS THIS SMELL IN HER CAR LIKE A "GAS SMELL" AND ALSO WAS COMPLAINING OF BEING TIRED AND NAUSEOUS WHEN I SPOKE WITH HER ABOUT IT. I NOTICED HER CAR WAS ABNORMALLY LOUDER WHEN SHE STARTED IT AT HOME AND IT HAD NOT BEEN RUN THAT DAY. I HAVE DETERMINED THAT THIS IS FROM A CRACKED EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND MY WIFE AND I ARE VERY LUCKY SHE WAS NOT KILLED FROM THE CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING SHE WAS RECEIVING WHILE SITTING IN HER CAR WHILE IT WAS IDLING ON HER BREAK. THE EXHAUST FUMES WERE BEING BROUGHT INTO THE CAB OF HER CAR FROM THE CRACKED EXHAUST MANIFOLD, THRU THE VENTS FROM THE OUTSIDE HVAC AIR DUCTS UNDER THE HOOD IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I NEVER COULD SMELL A "GAS SMELL" WHICH I ASSUMED SHE MEANT GASOLINE OR POSSIBLY A COOLANT SMELL FROM A LEAKING HEATER CORE AND SO I BLEW IT OFF UNTIL I MYSELF HAD TO USE THE CAR AND I QUICKLY REALIZED IT WAS AN EXHAUST GAS SMELL SHE WAS SMELLING AND IT NEARLY CAUSED ME TO BECOME UNCONSCIOUS WHILE DRIVING AT WHICH TIME I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND RETURNED HOME WITH THE CAR. I RESEARCHED THIS SAME EXHAUST GAS LEAK WITH THIS CAR AND IT IS NOT UNCOMMON BUT HAS YET TO TRIGGER A RECALL . MOST LIKELY DUE TO NO ONE BEING KILLED FROM THE CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING AND THANK GOD MY WIFE WAS NOT THE FIRST. THIS VEHICLE WILL NOT OPERATE IF IT'S DRIVEN FOR MORE THAN 45 MINUTES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE POWER TRAIN GOES INTO A NEUTRAL MODE. IT THEN REQUIRES A PULL OVER ONTO A FREEWAY TO ALLOW IT TO COOL DOWN FOR AT LEAST 30 MINUTES BEFORE THE VEHICLE WILL WORK. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE IS OUTSIDE. WHEN DRIVING AT SPEEDS LOWER THAN 50 MILES PER HOUR IT DOES NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. PER THE NISSAN MECHANICS THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE CVT AND THE ONLY WAY TO FIX IT IS TO COMPLETELY REPLACE THE CVT. WE HAVE TRIED A TRANSMISSION COOLER BUT THAT DOES NOT WORK. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS IT REQUIRES THE VEHICLE TO BE STOPPED AND TURNED OFF FOR 20 MINUTES WHICH CAN BE A BIG SAFETY PROBLEM AS IT WOULD REQUIRE SITTING ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY OR, IF ABLE, SITTING IN THE VEHICLE IN AN UNSAFE NEIGHBORHOOD.

NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR SINCE I PURCHASED IT. HAD TO REPLACE ALL TIRE SENSORS, SPEED SENSORS, COILS, FRONT PASSENGER TIRE ROD, THE CTV TRANSMISSION, AND THE TRUNK LEAKS INTO THE TRUNK AND THE TAIL LIGHT'S. I HAVE REPAIRED ALL THESE THINGS OUT OF MY OWN POCKET.I HAVE BEEN STRANDED SEVERAL TIMES, I HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT, AND HAVE HAD THE CAR TOWED. THE DASH HAS BECOME STICKY AND EVERYTHING STICKS TO IT. IT PRODUCES A GLARE ON THE WONDOW WHICH MAKES IT HARD TO SEE.THE ENGINE EXPERIENCES LOSS OF POWER AND NO MECHANIC CAN PINPOINT THE PROBLEM. I DO NOT DRIVE IT MUCH SINCE I HAVE PURCHASED IT. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH THIS SEEMS TO BE A FAIRLY COMMON AND KNOWN ISSUE. WE BOUGHT OUR CAR FROM A DEALERSHIP IN 2014 AND WE NOT MADE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE OR ANY POTENTIAL WARRANTY EXTENSION. INITIALLY, DEALERSHIP CITED NEED TO REPLACE IGNITION COIL, SOFTWARE UPDATE, FUEL LINE FLUSH. PICKED UP CAR AND IMMEDIATELY THE SERVICE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND CAR BEGAN TO MISFIRE. STARTING IN APRIL 2016 WE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE WHEN MY WIFE WHILE DRIVING THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST THE ABILITY TO DRIVE, THE ENGINE HAD SHUT DOWN ENTIRELY. AT THE TIME THE VEHICLE HAD JUST OVER 100,000 MILES AND SHE WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY EXPRESS WAY BETWEEN CLEVELAND AND AKRON I-77. SHE COSTED INTO A REST AREA AND WE HAD TO LEAVE THE CAR THERE OVER NIGHT UNTIL WE COULD GET IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD US IT WAS THE O2 SENSOR AND IT COST US ALMOST 1,200 $ TO REPAIR. A FEW MONTHS LATER IN JUNE OF 2016 ON FATHERS DAY WITH OUR ALMOST 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN THE CAR, MY FAMILY AND I WERE DRIVING DOWN TO VIRGINIA TO SPEND SOME TIME WITH FRIENDS. WE HAD ANOTHER INCIDENT. WHILE DRIVING IN THE DC AREA ON ANOTHER BUSY EXPRESS WAY I-70 IN MARYLAND OUR CAR AGAIN LOST POWER IN THE ENGINE. WE COULDN'T DRIVE IT ANY WHERE. WE HAD IT WOED BY AAA TO FREDERICK MARYLAND, RENTED A CAR, AND DROVE THE 5 HOURS HOME. A FEW DAYS LATER I DROVE BACK DOWN TO PICK THE CAR UP. THIS TIME IT WAS THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR. IT COST US ALMOST 500$ TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. TO MY UNDERSTANDING BOTH SENSORS BELONG TO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM OF A CAR. ON MONDAY OF THIS WEEK OCTOBER 30TH 2017 THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON BACK ROADS. WHEN WE BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A DAMAGED FRONT EXHAUST PIPE AND MANIFOLD. THE PRICE TO FIX IT IS 2,132.74$. I FELT THAT TO HAVE 3 MAJOR COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE EXHAUST SYSTEM IN OUR CAR IN A YEAR AND A HALF WAS EXCESSIVE SO I INVESTIGATED IT AND DISCOVERED THAT THE 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA WAS RECALLED FOR THE EXACT PROBLEM WE HAVE NOW. FOR SOME REASON OUR VEHICLE WASN'T INCLUDED IN THAT RECALL. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH NISSAN AND THEY HAVE TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY WILL DO TO HELP US OUT WITH THESE REPAIRS. IN ALL 3 SITUATIONS WE WERE DRIVING.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (RON MARHOFER NISSAN, 247 HOWE AVE, CUYAHOGA FALLS, OH, 44221) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE MANIFOLD, WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE NISSAN MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 28754357. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS A VOLUNTARY RECALL (PC130), BUT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED. ON TWO PREVIOUS OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS TOWED. THE 02 SENSOR AND MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 103,000.

MY CAR WAS BLOCKING THE GAS PUMP AND IT COULD NOT BE MOVED. I RULED OUT THE KEY FOB BECAUSE IT STILL UNLOCKED THE DOORS. I INSERTED THE KEY FOB IN THE EMERGENCY SOCKET THAT IS SUPPOSED TO START THE CAR IN CASE THE BATTERY IN THE KEY FOB DIES. STILL NOTHING. I HAD MY BROTHER BRING ME A NEW BATTERY FOR THE KEY FOB. STILL NOTHING. HE TOOK ME HOME. I HAD TO LEAVE THE CAR THERE. AFTER SOME INTERNET RESEARCH, MANY MANY OTHERS WITH NISSANS WERE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. THE CULPRIT IS THE ELECTRONIC STEERING LOCK MODULE. IT LOCKS THE STEERING WHEEL AND YOU CANNOT START THE CAR WHEN IT IS LOCKED. I WENT BACK TO THE CAR TORE THE PANEL APART AND LOCATED THE STEERING LOCK. THE RESEARCH I DID SAID THAT SOMETIMES YOU COULD GET IT TO RELEASE THE LOCK PIN IF YOU TAP ON IT WITH HAMMER. SO I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE WHILE HOLDING IN THE START BUTTON AND TAPPING ON THE STEERING LOCK MODULE. AFTER 20 MINUTES OF BANGING ON THE MODULE IT DISENGAGED ENOUGH TO START THE CAR. I DROVE IT HOME AND SHUT IT OFF. IT WON'T START AGAIN. NISSAN SAYS THE WARRANTY RAN OUT JAN. 1ST, 2016. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED ME A PRICE OF $679.51 JUST FOR THE PART NOT INCLUDING LABOR. THAT IS RIDICULOUS! WHAT IF I WERE SOMEWHERE REMOTE AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START? I COULD HAVE FROZE TO DEATH. ON THURSDAY FEBRUARY 2, 2017 APPROXIMATELY 5:45 PM, I WAS DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE OF ON KIRKWOOD HIGHWAY IN NEWARK, DE WHICH IS 3 LANES. THE CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE AND HESITATE TO TAKE OFF. WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF HEAVY TRAFFIC THE CAR FINALLY STOPPED ACCELERATING AND WOULD NOT MOVE. I HAD MY 3 YEAR OLD SON IN THE BACK SEAT AT THE TIME. AN PASSERBY FINALLY PULLED UP BEHIND ME AND HELPED ME PUSH MY CAR OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY TO THE LEFT TURN LANE SO THAT I WASN'T BLOCKING THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. AFTER ABOUT 2 HOURS, A TOW TRUCK FINALLY CAME AND TOWED THE CAR TO BENCHMARK TRANSMISSION IN NEWARK, DE. THE MECHANIC NAMED DANTE ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD DIED. HE ALSO NOTIFIED ME THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN RECALL ISSUED BY NISSAN SEVERAL YEARS BACK WHICH MY TRANSMISSION WAS NOW OUT OF RECALL DUE TO THE MILEAGE. MY CAR WAS IN THE NISSAN SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN NOVEMBER 2012 TO FIX THE ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK THAT ALSO TURNED INTO A RECALL. AT THAT TIME NISSAN HAD MY UPDATED ADDRESS AS WELL AS IT HAS BEEN CONTINUOUSLY UPDATED WITH THE DELAWARE DMV AND I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF ANY RECALL. THERE WAS ALSO NO INDICATION THAT ANY ISSUE WAS OCCURRING WITH THE TRANSMISSION (NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT) PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. I WANT NISSAN TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS INCIDENT. MY CAR THEN PROCEEDED TO HAVE THE ESCL PART BREAK LESS THAN SIX MONTHS AFTER THE "EXTENDED WARRANTY". THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE AND I FEEL I SHOULD BE COMPENSATED FOR THE $1000 PART REPLACEMENT.

THE STEERING LOCK BROKE WHILE I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT IN A PARKING LOT, FORCING THE ENGINE TO SHUT OFF. I HAVE 10 MONTH OLD TWIN DAUGHTERS AND THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A VERY SERIOUS CAR ACCIDENT IF THE VEHICLE WAS ON A MAIN ROAD OR HIGHWAY AND GOING AT A FASTER SPEED. SUPPOSEDLY THIS IS A WELL-KNOWN ISSUE WITH 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA'S (AND OTHER YEAR MODELS AS WELL). INSTEAD OF A RECALL, NISSAN EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THIS PART BY ONE YEAR. I CALLED NISSAN AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED IN AUGUST 2015, SO I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS OUT OF POCKET. THE ESTIMATED COST IS BETWEEN $1,100 AND $1,300. THIS CAR LEAKS WATER INTO THE DRIVERS SIDE FLOOR, AND KEEPS TRAPPED RAIN WATER INSIDE OF BOTH PANEL DOORS FOR WEEKS AFTER IT RAINS. I'VE ALREADY HAD TO GET THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD LEAK FIXED (WHICH LUCKILY WAS COVERED UNDER A RECALL). NOT TO MENTION THAT I ENDED UP HAVING TO GO TO THE ER LAST YEAR FOR A BREATHING TREATMENT BECAUSE FUMES WERE LEAKING INTO MY CABIN VIA THE AIR CONDITIONING(PROBLEM UNKNOWN/UNDIAGNOSED). BUT NOW LIKE MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THE 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA, UNFORTUNATELY THE STEERING WHEEL IGNITION LOCK/SWITCH MALFUNCTIONED CAUSING MY ENGINE NOT TO BE ABLE TO TURN ON SUDDENLY. WHEN I RETURNED TO MY CAR, THE KEY FOB WAS NOT RECOGNIZED AND THE ENGINE WILL NOT TURN ON. AFTER TOWING IT TO A LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP, IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY STEERING WHEEL IGNITION LOCK, AND WILL COST ME AN AVERAGE OF $1100 TO FIX. AFTER CONTACTING NISSANS HEADQUARTERS TO SEE IF IT WOULD BE COVERED EVEN THOUGH THEIR "CAMPAIGN" ENDED IN JAN 2016 FOR MY VEHICLE, THEY DENIED THE REQUEST TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW ANY AUTO MANUFACTURER CAN BE ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH INSTALLING A FAULTY PART INTO THE CAR, AND THEN PASS ALONG THE ULTIMATE COST OF FIXING IT TO ANY OWNER. IT'S NOT OKAY TO SIMPLY COVER THE COST OF THOSE OWNERS WHO'S SWITCH FAILS DURING A CERTAIN TIME PERIOD, AND THEN INFORM THE REST OF US THAT THEY ARE UNWILLING TO HELP. OUR 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA HYBRID DIED WITHOUT WARNING. WE WERE UNABLE TO TURN THE CAR ON, NOTHING ON THE DASHBOARD LIT UP EXCEPT A YELLOW KEY SYMBOL. THE LIGHTS, LOCKS, AND KEY FOB CONTINUED TO WORK, HOWEVER. I RESEARCHED THE ISSUE WE WERE HAVING AND DISCOVERED A NUMBER OF CONSUMERS HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THEIR NISSANS. IT IS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT WITH THE STEERING LOCK WHICH RENDERS THE CAR INOPERABLE, APPARENTLY. THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. OUR CAR GAVE NO INDICATION OF SOMETHING BEING WRONG. IT HAS ONLY ABOUT 64,000 MILES ON IT AND WE HAVE HAD NO MAJOR ISSUES PREVIOUSLY, AND NO INDICATION THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG PRIOR TO IT DYING. WHEN I CONTACTED NISSAN OF MARLBORO, MA, THE INDIVIDUAL I SPOKE WITH DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM OVER THE PHONE. HE SAID HE WAS 99% CERTAIN IT WAS THE STEERING LOCK. THIS WAS CONFIRMED ONCE WE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR. FOR HIM TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM ACCURATELY OVER THE PHONE, THEY MUST SEE THIS ISSUE OFTEN ENOUGH. ONLY FURTHER SOLIDIFYING THAT NISSAN IS AWARE THAT THERE IS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. I WAS TOLD HOWEVER, THAT DESPITE NISSAN BEING AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, WE HAD MISSED THE DEADLINE FOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH ENDED IN JUNE 2015. AGAIN, THIS IS NOT DUE TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. OUR CAR WAS IN PERFECTLY GOOD CONDITION UNTIL THE MOMENT IT SIMPLY STOPPED WORKING. WHEN I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO REPORT THE PROBLEM, I WAS ALSO MADE AWARE THAT THE REASON WE NEVER HEARD OF THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THEY HAD THE PREVIOUS OWNER, MICHAEL SOMETHING, LISTED RATHER THAN US. SO THE MAILING MAY HAVE GONE TO HIM, NOT US. WE PURCHASED THE CAR FROM NISSAN OF WOBURN AS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED VEHICLE. BY THE TIME I SPOKE WITH THE SECOND INDIVIDUAL FROM NISSAN, OUR INFORMATION WAS UPDATED AND SHE CLAIMED NISSAN CAN NOT GUARANTEE THAT RECALL INFORMATION IS MAILED TO THE CORRECT OWNER.

THIS IS, FROM WHAT I DISCOVERED, A KNOWN ISSUE WITH NISSANS AND IN MY VIEW A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. NISSAN HAS MADE THIS A WARRANTY EXTENSION INSTEAD OF A SAFETY RECALL FOR REASONS UNKNOWN. WITH NO WAY TO TELL WHEN AND IF A STEERING LOCK WILL FAIL IT IS A GAME OF CHANCE THAT MANY NISSAN OWNERS ARE LOSING. IF YOU ARE LIKE ME, AND PURCHASED YOUR CAR USED, IT IS SAFE TO SAY THAT YOU WILL NOT KNOW ABOUT THE ISSUE UNTIL ITS ALREADY TOO LATE. ON TOP OF THAT, SINCE IT IS A WARRANTY IT HAS AN EXPIRATION DATE. THE KEYLESS REMOTE WILL ALLOW ME TO LOCK AND UNLOCK MY CAR, BUT WHEN I GO TO START THE CAR, IT WILL NOT REGISTER MY KEYLESS REMOTE. AN ERROR CODE SHOWS THAT THE ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK (ESCL) MECHANISM WAS MALFUNCTIONING. ALSO, THERE IS A YELLOW KEY ICON ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DASH THAT INTERMITTENTLY FLASHES NO KEY. THE IGNITION IS INDICATING THAT THE STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED ALTHOUGH I CAN TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I OWN A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA COUPE WITH APPROXIMATELY 60K MILES. WHEN DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 60MPH, THE CAR DECELERATES WITH NO WARNING. DURING THE FIRST INCIDENT, I WAS ON THE LEFT-HAND SIDE OF A SEMI TRUCK CAUGHT IN THEIR BLINDSPOT WHILE THEY WERE TRYING TO SWITCH LANES. I ATTEMPTED TO PASS THIS TRUCK ONLY TO HAVE MY CAR SLOW DOWN COMPLETELY, EVEN WITH GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. VEHICLES BEHIND ME HAD TO CHANGE LANES SUDDENLY TO AVOID REAR ENDING ME, AND I ALMOST BECAME THE VICTIM OF A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH THIS SEMI TRUCK. FEARING A SIMILAR INCIDENT ON THE TRIP BACK, I STAYED SAFELY IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE GOING JUST BELOW THE POSTED SPEED (70MPH). HOWEVER, THE WAY AROUND ACTUALLY PAYING TO FIX THESE DEATH TRAPS IS TO INFORM THE CONSUMER THAT THE "FIX" IS NOT A NEW TRANSMISSION, RATHER AN EXTERNAL COOLER THAT NEEDS TO BE INSTALLED. SO I WAS STRANDED AT THE SUPERMARKET.I HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK IN ORDER FOR ME TO GET HOME. I HAD THE COMPANY WHO TOWED THE CAR AND WHO HAS BEEN SERVICING OUR FAMILY CARS FOR YEARS CALL NISSAN TO SEE HOW NISSAN CAN FIX THE CAR. NISSAN ADVISED THAT THIS PART IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY OR UNDER ANY RECALL AND THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO. THEY SAID IT WILL CAUSE ME AN ESTIMATED $3000 DOLLARS TO GET THE CAR FIXED. MIND YOU THE CAR IS ONLY 3 1/2 YEARS OLD AND I AM STILL MAKING CAR PAYMENTS. [XXX] WHO TOWED AND FIXED THE CAR DOUBLED CHECKED FOR ME TO SEE IF THIS PART WAS UNDER A NISSAN RECALL OR IF THIS PART IS UNDER WARRANTY, TO MY SURPRISE IT IS NOT.I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT A PUSH BUTTON CAR DOES NOT HAVE A BACK UP TO START A CAR WHEN THE PUSH BUTTON MALFUNCTION. THIS DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT THERE IS NO ALTERNATE WAY OF STARTING A CAR WHEN A PUSH BUTTON DOES NOT WORK. AFTER ARRIVING HOME, I PARKED MY CAR AND WENT INTO THE HOUSE. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO RE-ENTER MY CAR APPROXIMATELY 1 HOUR LATER, I PRESSED THE BRAKE AND PUSHED THE START BUTTON AS I HAVE DONE SINCE PURCHASING MY CAR APPROX. 4 MONTHS AGO. THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THE PUSH BRAKE SIGN WAS STILL ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT MOVE. THE BRAKE WAS VERY HARD. I LEFT THE CAR ALONE AND SAID I WOULD TRY AGAIN IN THE MORNING. I WENT TO MY VEHICLE AT ABOUT 8:30AM IN THE MORNING AND PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN; HOWEVER, THE ENGINE FINALLY STARTED ABOUT 5 MINUTES LATER. I DROVE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE TO BE A FAULTY BREAK SWITCH. SINCE THE CAR WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY (36 MONTHS/ 36000 MILES) I HAD TO PAY $173.00 TO FIX THIS ISSUE WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE IF I HAD NOT COMPLAINED THAT THE DEALERSHIP WAS CHARGING 2 HOURS LABOR AND DIAGNOSIS FOR A 1 HOUR JOB. AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE ONLINE I HAVE FOUND SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. ON 3/13/2013 I DROVE MY VEHICLE TO WORK AT APPROXIMATELY 8:55AM AND PARKED EVERYTHING IN CAR WAS FULLY OPERATIONAL AND FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. AT 6:30PM I APPROACHED MY VEHICLE UNLOCKED THE DOOR USING MY KEY FOB, ENTERED THE VEHICLE AND PROCEEDED TO PRESS THE IGNITION BUTTON AND NOTHING HAPPENS. AFTER SWITCHING ON THE HEADLIGHTS AND NOTICING NO POWER ISSUES I NOTICED A FLASHING INDICATOR LIGHT IN THE DASH THAT SAID NO KEY PRESENT. AFTER BEING THE ONLY CAR LEFT IN THE DARK SECLUDED PARKING LOT I STARTED OFF ON A JOURNEY TO PURCHASE A BATTERY FOR THE KEY FOB AND IT DID NOT SOLVE THE PHENOMENON. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP WHICH IS ABOUT 60 MILES AWAY FROM MY HOME. THE DEALER AFTER INVESTIGATING FOR A MATTER OF MINUTES WERE QUICKLY ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM WHICH WAS A STEERING LOCK MODULE THAT WAS VERY COSTLY. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT THERE ARE A GREAT NUMBER OF ALTIMA'S AND OTHER NISSAN VEHICLE THAT ARE INFECTED WITH THE SAME DEFECTIVE STEERING LOCK DEVICES THAT CAUSES YOU TO RANDOMLY BE STRANDED IN SECLUDED AREAS WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE. THIS I FIND HIGHLY UNETHICAL FOR NISSAN TO BE TOTALLY AWARE OF SUCH DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT AND NOT HAVE ANY CONCERN FOR THE WELFARE OF IT'S CUSTOMERS NOR THEIR CHILDREN. IM HOPING THAT THE NHTSA CAN PROTECT CONSUMERS FROM BULLIES LIKE NISSAN AND HELP US GET THE RECALL WE DESERVE. ALL WE WANT IS A RELIABLE PRODUCT THAT CAN PERFORM THE WAY IT WAS INTENDED TO PERFORM. [XXX], ATLANTA, GEORGIA MY DAUGHTER'S 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA DID THE SAME THING. SHE CAME OVER FOR A VISIT AND UPON LEAVING HER CAR WOULD NOT CRANK. MY HUSBAND AND I DID ALL OF THE TROUBLESHOOTING ACCORDING TO THE MANUAL TO NO AVAIL. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE SHE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND HE IMMEDIATELY KNEW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. HE WANTED TO SELL HERE ANOTHER ALTIMA, BECAUSE NISSAN KNEW THIS WAS AN ISSUE, SO THEY STOPPED PUTTING THIS MECHANISM ON THE 2012 MODELS. NISSAN WHO HAS A GOOD STANDING AND HAVE MILLIONS OF CARS ON THE ROAD SHOULD DO RIGHT BY CONSUMERS WHO PURCHASED THEIR VEHICLES AND HAD THIS PROBLEM. I AM GOING TO SEND THIS COMPLAINT SITE TO MY LOCAL NEWS STATION AND TRY TO PUT SOME FIRE UNDER NISSAN. THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND OTHER CONSUMERS NEED TO BE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. THE REPAIR COST OF OUR NISSAN ALTIMA WAS $919.00. I SEE SEVERAL DIFFERENCES IN THE REPAIR COST TOO. OUR ALTIMA HAS FAILED TO RECOGNIZE OUR INTELLIGENT KEYS AND WILL NOT START. THE DOORS WILL LOCK AND UNLOCK. THE ALARM WILL SOUND AND THE TRUNK WILL OPEN BUT THE CAR WILL NOT START. I'M BEING TOLD THIS IS DUE TO A FAULTY STEERING LOCK MECHANISM THAT HAS BEEN RECALLED IN SOME NISSAN MODELS BUT NOT THE ALTIMA. THE PART ITSELF IS $500 AND THE LABOR WILL TAKE IT TO ALMOST $1000 OR MORE. THIS IS COMPLETELY ABSURD. WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF THIS HAPPENED TO MY WIFE AND INFANT DAUGHTER ON THE WRONG SIDE OF TOWN. AFTER OUR FIRST REAL FREEZE OF THE WINTER (LOW 20'S), THE CAR WAS LOCKED UP FOR NO REASON. PRESSING THE PUSH BUTTON IGNITION, INSERTING THE FOB INTO THE KEY HOLDER, NOTHING WILL START THE CAR. THE BRAKE PEDAL IS HEAVY, NO LIGHTS COMES UP ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE STEERING WHEEL IS TOTALLY LOCKED OUT. HAD TO GET THE ALTIMA TOWED INTO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND COME TO FIND OUT IT'S A STEERING WHEEL LOCK OUT CONTROL UNIT THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. CAR JUST CAME OFF THE 36MONTH WARRANTY IN SEPTEMBER'12 AND I AM NOW TURNING IN THE 39MONTH LEASE AND NOW A $1K REPAIR. THANKS NISSAN... ALSO, HAD THE NISSAN ORIGINAL BATTERY REPLACED TWICE!
