I am having problems with my ECU malfunctioning which is causing my catalytic converter my exhaust manifold and my O2 sensors to malfunction. I'm having all the same issues as the recall campaign reference number NTB 12-040 d
At some point on the highway the car throttles down to less than 60 mph. Mashing the gas pedal to the floor results in nothing happening. This causes a dangerous road situation with the slower speed, but the worst part is when it suddenly begins to accelerate again, potentially hitting the car in front of you unexpectedly. No mechanic can reproduce the effect as it only takes place after driving on the highway for an hour or so.

Vehicle tends to slow down a lot when I am driving as if I am about to get transmission problems soon. I see many people who already complained this transmission issue. My car has about 130,646 miles on it. The passenger air bag is consistently on and I hope it won't deploy on its own. Ever since i got the car in May of 2022 I have had problems with my transmission, engine and problems with excessive oil leaking. I’ve tried to get it fixed. None of the repairs have fixed my car even with my warranty and I’m still having problems with it. I have also needed to get a valve cover replacement and many repairs to my engine. My dashboard also has difficulties working and turning on. Sometimes my brakes are faulty and require changes frequently. I also have no seatbelts in my backseat
The contact owns a 2010 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle independently decelerated without warning. The contact pulled over and had the vehicle towed to a local mechanic. The vehicle was then towed to a different local mechanic where it was diagnosed with needing the transmission to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.

I DROVE MY CAR THE DAY BEFORE IT WAS FINE. I CAME OUT TO MY CAR A 2010 ALTIMA 3.5 SR I HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT . I PRECISELY PRECEDED TO DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE I HAD TO GO TO WORK. THE PROBLEM WAS A STEP MOTOR , THE CAR HAD NO POWER , NOW AFTER PAYING 3K FOR A NEW RADIATOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DATES BACK TO A RECALL YEARS BACK NISSAN HAD. THIS IS UNSAFE . ERROR CODES THROUGH SENSOR WARNINGS, I REPLACE ONE SENSOR NOW ANOTHER SENSOR ERROR. I'M ABOUT 1000.00 IN REPLACING ELECTRICIAL ISSUES AND MECHANIC SAYS THE CAR IS HAVING ELECTRICAL ISSUES AND HE CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT. CAR WON'T RUN LONGER THAN 30 MINS. REPLACED CRANK SHAFT SENSOR AND APP SENSOR.

MY CAR LOSES POWER ON THE FREEWAY AND IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I TYPICALLY DRIVE ON NORTH DALLAS TOLLWAY IN DFW AREA AND THE OTHER DAY I HAD TO EXIT BECAUSE ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR LOST POWER AFTER DRIVING ON FREEWAY FOR 60 MILES. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING INTERMITTENT ISSUE SINCE DAY ONE. I FOUND ONLINE THAT NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT REFUSED TO REPAIR.
AFTER BUYING THE CAR IN LATE 2019, IT CAME TO MY ATTENTION THAT THE CVT TRANSMISSION WAS FAULTY. I LATER FOUND THAT THE YEAR, MODEL, AND MAKE OF MY VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN A RECALL OF THE CVT TRANSMISSIONS, AMONG OTHER SAFTEY ISSUES. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY THREE DIFFERENT SHOPS, THE CONCLUSION WAS MADE THAT IT WAS INDEED THE CVT TRANSMISSION AND STEPPER MOTOR CAUSING THE PROBLEMS. UPON FURTHER EXAMINATION, IT WAS FOUND THAT MY VEHICLE HAS NOT HAD A RECALL REPLACEMENT OF THE FAULTY PARTS AS OF YET. THE CAR HAS ONLY 96K MILES ON IT. WHEN THE ISSUE ARISES, THE TRANSMISSION GOES INTO A "SAFE" MODE. THIS MODE CREATES A THROTTLE PROBLEM AS THE VEHICLE CANNOT TRAVEL FASTER THAN 40 MPH WITHOUT A HIGH PITCH WIND UP SOUND AND A CUT IN POWER OF ALMOST 50%.

MY STRUTS BEGINNING TO SOUND HORRIBLE. I WAS TRAVELING AND AS I WOULD SPEED UP THE RPMS WOULD GO HIGHER MAKING A WHISTLING NOISE. SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WENT HAD IT PUT ON A COMPUTER AND IT'S SAID TRANSMISSION AND TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID.

THE VERY FIRST ISSUE WAS VEHICLE SHUT DOWN ON ITS OWN WHILE IN AIRPORT TRAFFIC. IT RESTARTED RIGHT AWAY BUT CUTS OFF IMMEDIATELY YOU PUT IT IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE VEHICLE STARTED AND DROVE FINE FOR A FEW DAYS AND THE ISSUE STARTED AGAIN. WHEN I TOOK IT TO GET CHECKED OUT THE PROBLEM REFUSED TO REPLICATE. THE CURRENT ISSUE NOW IS THAT THE RPM JUMPS UP AND DOWN WHILE DRIVING CAUSING THE ENGINE TO REV UP WHILE VEHICLE DE-ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN. VEHICLE SOMETIMES RUNS LIKE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IS ENGAGED. WHEN YOU PUT IT IN DRIVE OR REVERSE IT TAKES A FEW SECONDS TO ENGAGE THE GEAR.

I BOUGHT MY CAR BRAND NEW IN 2010. IT HAS 220,000 MILES ON IT. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND SAW THIS US A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE CAR. NISSAN ALSO SENT OUT A BULLETIN NTB10-121B. TAKATA RECALL WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN TRAFFIC THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHUTTER AND WITH NO WHERE SAFE TO PULL OVER CONTINUED DOWN THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE TOOK SO LONG TO GET UP TO SPEED I THOUGHT SOMETHING TERRIBLE WAS GOING TO HAPPENED. WHEN I GOT TO A SAFE PLACE I PULLED OVER. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WAITED. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND DECIDED TO TRY AGAIN AND IMMEDIATELY IT STARTED SHUTTERING AND NO POWER I INSTANTLY PULLED OVER CALL MY HUSBAND AND THEN CALLED A TOWING SERVICE. PROBLEM: ACCELERATING ON HIGHWAY AND CAR WOULD NOT SWITCH INTO HIGHER GEAR PREVENTING CAR FROM GOING MORE THAN 20 MPH ON A 75 MPH HIGHWAY. NISSAN TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE CVT TRANSMISSION AND THE REPAIRS WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED 100% UNDER THE WARRANTEE EXTENSION IF THE CAR HAD BEEN WITHIN THE 120,000 LIMIT. OUR CAR WAS JUST 8% OVER THAT LIMIT BUT NISSAN'S CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT WOULD NOT HELP IN ANY WAY. THE REPRESENTATIVE SAID NISSAN ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSIONS AND DOUBLED THE WARRANTEE BUT THAT WAS ALL THEY WERE GOING TO DO. THE SAME PROBLEMS THAT ARE CAUSING THESE CVT TRANSMISSIONS TO FAIL AT 120,000 MILES ARE CAUSING THEM TO FAIL AT 131,000 MILES IN MY CASE. NISSAN SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR REPAIRING THE DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSIONS. I AM NOT CERTAIN WHY A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN MANDATED. MY VEHICLE IS INCLUDED IN A SPECIAL WARRANTY ISSUED BY NISSAN BECAUSE THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE BUT IT'S ONLY VALID UNDER 120K MILES. NOW I HAVE NO CAR, NO MONEY TO FIX THIS ONE OR BUY ANOTHER. THE UNRELIABILITY HAS RUINED MY LIFE AND I DON'T KNOW HOW I'M GOING TO GET BY. THEN SUDDENLY AS I WAS RELEASING MY FOOT FROM THE GAS...IT FORCEFULLY ACCELERATED CAUSING ME TO SLAM ON THE BREAKS, TO KEEP ME FROM HITTING THE CAR IN FROM OF ME. I HAD TO CAREFULLY COAST MY WAY TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD, AS I WAS IN THE FAST LANE CLOSEST TO THE MEDIAN. IT STILL WOULDN'T COMPLETELY ACCELERATE, IT KIND OF SCOOTED OVER THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, WAITED FOR ABOUT 2 MINUTES AND ATTEMPTED TO START THE CAR AND IT WOULD NOT START. AFTER ABOUT 3 TRIES IT STARTED, AND I COULD DRIVE THE CAR BACK TO MY HOUSE, AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO REPLICATE THE SAME ISSUE. I HAVEN'T DRIVEN THE CAR SINCE. IT'S SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE IT, AND AT THE PRESENT MOMENT, DON'T HAVE THE MEANS TO GET IT TOWED ANYWHERE TO BE LOOKED AT. IT'S SUCH A SHAME THAT AS SOON AS YOU PAY A CAR OFF, AND YOU ARE NO LONGER COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY, THAT YOU START TO HAVE MAJOR PROBLEMS. THE SCARY PART WAS THERE WAS AN 18 WHEELER BEHIND ME. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON-I PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. I WAS ALONE AND SCARED AND HAD 300 MILES TO GO. WHAT SHOULD HAVE TAKEN 6 HOURS TOOK ME 11 HOURS BECAUSE I HAD STOP EVERY 30-45 MINUTES. I TOOK IT TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THEY STATED NISSAN HAD TO GO THROUGH THE STEPS BEFORE REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION- BUT AT WHAT COST- WHEN SOMEONE DIES- THEY INSTALLED A CVT OIL COOLER KIT -WELL GUESS WHAT ? 1 YEAR AND 3 MONTHS LATER ON MY FIRST LONG DISTANCE TRIP SINCE LAST YEAR. THE SAME EXACT THING OCCURRED EXCEPT I HAVE 600 MILES BEFORE I GET HOME. I WAS STUCK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ALONE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THANK GOD THE TRUCK BEHIND ME DID NOT HIT ME OR I INJURY SOMEONE ELSE DUE TO THIS ISSUE NISSAN CONTINUES TO IGNORE. I HAD TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, COULD NOT GET A RENTAL BECAUSE IT WAS A SUNDAY AND THEY WERE CLOSED. THEN A FEW WEEKS LATTER I WAS DRIVING 75 (SPEED LIMIT) WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON THEN THE CAR STARTED LOOSING POWER, 65,60 55. I ACCELERATED THE CAR AND IT JUST WOULD NOT GO FASTER. I WAS ABLE TO STOP IT WITH THE CRUISE AT 55. WITH FLASHERS ON COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. STARTED MY RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT NISSAN HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY BY DOUBLING IT FROM 5 YEARS/60,000 TO 10 YEARS/120,000 MILES. MY ISSUE IS MY CAR IS ONLY 6 YEARS OLD WITH 128,000 MILES AND NISSAN HAS MY CAR IN THEIR SHOP AND WILL NOT FIX IT. I BELIEVE THE CVT TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE GET KILLED. I HAD PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 100,000 IN GOOD FAITH YET NISSAN FAILED TO CONTACT ME TO NOTIFY ME OF THIS ISSUE. CLAIMED THE CVT TRANSMISSION HAD TOO MUCH OIL (HALF QUART) IN IT FROM THE FACTORY WHICH CAUSES THEM TO OVERHEAT WHICH CAUSES THE CONDITION WE EXPERIENCED. THE DEALER STATED THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OTHER NISSAN ALTIMA OWNERS (CVT TRANSMISSION). THE DEALER STATED THERE IS NO RECALL. THE PROBLEM GIVES NO WARNING WHICH LEFT US PULLING SLOWLY UNABLE TO ACCELERATE WITH FAST MOVING ONCOMING TRAFFIC. NISSAN SHOULD HAVE NOTIFIED US OF THIS PROBLEM AND DONE A SELF IMPOSED RECALL. THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH ACCELERATION - WITH ACCELERATION PEDAL FULLY DEPRESSED ENGINE WAS REVVING UP TO ~2,200 RPM AND CAR BARELY ACCELERATED LIKE IT WAS SLIPPAGE IN THE TRANSMISSION. SWITCHING TO SPORT OR MANUAL MODES WAS NOT EFFECTIVE. THERE IS "HIGH FLUID TEMPERATURE PROTECTION MODE" DESCRIBED IN MANUAL, BUT THERE IS NO WARNING LIGHT/CHIME THAT TRANSMISSION ENTERS THIS MODE. DRIVER NOT BEING AWARE OF VERY LIMITED ACCELERATION CAN FIND HIMSELF IN VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION LEADING TO FATAL ACCIDENT, E.G. WHEN PULLING OUT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. IT OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES, NEVER ANY WARNING LIGHT WAS ON. FINALLY TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED, BUT UNTIL NOW (JANUARY 2011) NISSAN DID NOT ADMIT THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM AND DID NOT TAKE ANY PREVENTIVE ACTION. *TR

PURCHASED MY NEW ALTIMA 3.5 A FEW MONTHS AGO. HAD A PROBLEM THE SECOND WEEK, SEEMED LIKE THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING. AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN, I ACCELERATED BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE. HAD TO ACCELERATE A LOT TO GET THE CAR TO MOVE VERY LITTLE AND VERY SLOWLY. HAD I BEEN PULLING OUT IN TRAFFIC IT COULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTER. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED A FEW TIMES AS I PARKED IN A PARKING GARAGE. UPON RETURNING TO THE CAR HOURS LATER THE TRANSMISSION SEEMED FINE. MONTHS LATER AFTER A 3 1/2 HOUR DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY, I GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY EXIT AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THIS TIME IT CONTINUED TO HAPPEN AT LOW SPEEDS, THE CAR ONLY ACCELERATED PROPERLY AT HIGH SPEEDS. THE FOLLOWING DAY (MONDAY) I DROVE THE CAR TO MY NISSAN DEALER TO CHECK OUT THE PROBLEM, I NEVER HAD ANY WARNING LIGHTS AT ALL. THEY RAN TESTS, FOUND NOTHING, ROAD TESTED AND DETERMINED I HAD A DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION. BRAND NEW CAR. THIS DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO MY FAMILY AND MYSELF. NISSAN IS REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION AS I WRITE THIS REPORT, BUT THIS NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO TO PREVENT OTHERS FROM SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. I WAS LUCKY. *TR

CVT TRANSMISSION IS WARMED UP AFTER DRIVING FOR 20 MINUTES. ONCE WARM, FROM A COMPLETE STOP, I LIGHTLY ACCELERATE TO MOVE FORWARD AND THE CAR HESITATES LIKE I AM NOT EVEN PRESS ON THE ACCELERATOR SO I PRESS HARDER ALMOST TO THE FLOOR WHEN THE CAR FINALLY AND SUDDENLY ACCELERATES OUT OF CONTROL ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THIS SITUATION HAPPENS IS A CONSTANT PROBLEM FOR THE PAST MONTH. ANOTHER PROBLEM IS THAT YOU CAN BE ON THE FREEWAY DRIVING AT 60MPH AND JUST LOOSE ALL POWER AND CANT ACCELERATE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAY CANT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND TO JUST LEAVE IT WITH THEM TO SEE IF THEY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, BUT I HAD ALREADY EXPLAINED THAT THE LIGHT HAS NEVER CAME ON. THE SERVICE ADVISOR STATED THAT IF THE LIGHT DOESN'T COME ON AND THEY DON'T GET A "CODE" FROM IT THAT THEY CANT FIX THE PROBLEM UNDER WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH NISSAN KNOWS THAT THEIR IS AN ISSUE WITH THE CVT SO THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHEN THE CONTACT ENGAGED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE VEHICLE MOVED VERY SLOWLY. THIS HAPPENED SPORADICALLY AND IT ALSO OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED INDICATING ANY TYPE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. AFTER RUNNING A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON THE TRANSMISSION FAULTY CODES WERE DETECTED INDICATING THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND INFORMED THEM OF THE FAILURE BUT WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS ON BACK ORDER. THEY ALSO ARE NOT SURE WHEN THEY WILL RECEIVE THE TRANSMISSION TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.

2010 NISSAN ALTIMA MAKING A LOUD CLUNK NOISE. CONSUMER STATES THE NOISE HAPPENS ONLY WHEN IT'S COLD OUTSIDE, THE VEHICLE IS COLD, AND AT SPEEDS 30 MPH AND LESS. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THE NOISE WAS SO BAD, IT FELT AS THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS GOING TO STALL. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED IT FELT AS THOUGH THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING. THE VEHICLE WOULD DRAG/SPUTTER. THE SLIPPING WAS SOMETIMES ACCOMPANIED BY A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE UNDERBODY WHICH LASTED FOR 3-4 SECONDS. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEMS THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED. *JB
