2010 NISSAN ALTIMA Unknown Or Other Problems

Dashboard has started melting. Front half of dash has started oozing a black, sticky, shiny tar-like substance in addition to an odor. Sticks to everything and does not come off or stop oozing. Spreading to more area of the dashboard. Does create a glare on the windshield, obstructing visibility. Have always used a sun shield since purchasing the car in 2022. This just started ~7/31/2025.

Around 12:30 pm Sysco driver [XXX] illegally parked on the San Diego California street blocking off traffic. I made a note of the drivers identification because of the awkward closeness to my vehicle. I went to an appointment about an hour away and upon my return I immediately noticed tension and pulling with my suspension that was not there before. I contact Sysco corporate office to report the incident and they said they will take care of it and to make a police report. I call immediately and am put on hold for nearly 90 minutes then am disconnected. I go to make an in person report and the police department is closed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I notify the department of transportation and the California attorney general of my situation and how my car is not working like before. This should be investigated. Since 2011/2012 at times Altima won't start. Stopped going to dealer because of excuses & expense after warranty expired. Have been calling AAA. Have had at least 8 batteries replaced. This is a safety issue for me when I travel alone. When I turn the car off I pray evertime that the car starts. I have to pull my paperwork for exact date this started. I only have 92,000 miles on my Altima. So far so good with the latest battery, fingers crossed. Start date below is approximate, have to pull my paperwork.

THIS CAR DASHBOARD IS COMPLETELY MELTING AND THE CHEMICALS THATS BEING RELEASED ARE VERY SMELLY AND EYE BURNING. TURN THE AC DEBRIS COMES OUT AND EYES BURN TO THE POINT EVERY ONE HAS TO GET OUT OF VEHICLE. EYES BURN REGUARDLESS OF AC BUT WHEN ITS ON ITS 10X WORSE. IVE OWNED THIS CAR 2 YEARS AND ITS BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE I GOT IT.

I HAVE A CVT TRANSMISSION IS MY CAR, AND ITS TERRIBLY SCARY. IT SHIFTS IF IT WANT TOO I TRY TO SLOW DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY HOPING TO HELP IT SHIFT IT STILL DONT I HAVE TO COME ALMOST TO A COMPLETE STOP. LOTS OF HESISTATION SHUDDERING LURCHING STALLING ITS REALLY SCARY TO DRIVE AT NIGHT TIME AND THROUGH BUSY PLACES. YOU PUT IT GEARS AND IT EVEN JUMPS AND OR ROCKS BACK AND FORTH

The dashboard is melted. The shiny surface that this melted area has created causes a terrible glare when driving during the day to the point where it is difficult to see the road or oncoming traffic well. The surface is extremely sticky to the touch. Melting has progressively been getting worse.

2010 Nissan altam the front strut insulators on both sides have really bad cracks on the upper insulators. It's a loud clunking noise going over bumps or just driving on flat surfaces. There's a recall on 09 and 10 maxima and altamas with the same issues but this one isn't showing up for a recall.

When parked letting the car warm up constant shaking kinda a rough ideal at times. From park to reverse it shifts hard the to drive its ok I guess then on the go it's like driving a boat on land loud knocking sounds seems like the tires are flat or about to explode off the car really nerve-wracking

Today my 16 year old daughter drove my 2010 Nissan Altima. At 45 mph it started to jerk. She pulled over to check things out and saw nothing. She went to put it back in drive and the gear shifter wouldn’t stay in proper drive position, but she started driving. It continued and began jerking, making a popping sound, and then started pouring smoke. She pulled over, got out and got my 10 year old daughter out when she saw a flame by the windshield and they ran away from the vehicle before it became engulfed in flames very quickly. The entire vehicle is ash except the frame in a short period of time.

I've owned my Ultima for approximately 9 years the dashboard is melting and cracking causing poor visibility, glares, melting dashboard with cracks causing wires to be exposed to hot heat and sun.

The problem is in the Transmission. It is very stressful to know that I can't go faster than 35mph and specially super important that I have to stay under 5mpr or I might blow the motor I'm guessing

My extremely shiny/melting dashboard is the problem yes it is available for inspection. Everyones safety was put @ risk because of the glare created by that dashboard onto the windshield. I can’t afford to pay the dealership or anyone else to look at it. You can also see in the photos how the shade I bought to keep the sun off of The dash leaves pieces on the dashboard because it keeps sticking to the dashboard Every day when I use it. You can also see if you look really closely how the stickiness that’s on the shade rubs off onto the windshield and leaves a sticky mess on it. please do something about this my car is no longer under warranty but is it unsafe to drive at various times both day and night. There’s no way I can afford to get a new dash.

My dashboard has been melting since I purchased the vehicle last year. Dealership went out of business. It’s over $1,000 for dashboard to be replaced. I read the complaints on this website and y’all are WELL INFORMED of this issue and the safety concerns associated with it. Ditto for Nissan! A recall was issued for the previous two year models so why in the world should we have to pay for this repair out of pocket and how many complaints does it take to get y’all to do something????? I’m not sure what you’re here for if not to address issues consumers are having with their products. DO YOUR JOB AND MAKE NISSAN PAY FOR THEIR MISTAKES!!!!

I have a melting dashboard that is becoming hazardous due to the extreme glare , tackiness and continuous deterioration. I noticed it in May 2021 and has become substantially worse’s as it is now a hazard and concerned driving it until I can find a fix . I contacted Nissan consumer affairs and was advised no recall and due to age that they could not offer a good will fix and directed me to dealer. I will spoke to the dealer body shop who advised it will be approximately 2000 to replace . I will be bring it to the dealer in the next week for their inspection and assessment as this issue has been noted in the Auto Saftey letter to Nissan North American CEO in fall of 2021 requesting recall

The dash of the car has melted causing a glare on the windshield of the car making it hard to see out the windshield. Especially on very sunny days. The dash is sticky and car smells when entering it.

I have three issues with this car. The dash has melted, so much so I could not see out the windshield if the sun was out. The glare on the dash was blinding. I called Nissan and spoke to agent 'shelly', ID #7312915, case # 32725497 in September 2018. I took it to one Nissan dealership and they said not a manufacturing defect, but gave me a quote of $3500 to repair. Took to another Nissan dealership and they gave me another quote for a repair using a dash from the junk yard for 1/2 the price. I gave up and finally purchased a dash cover in August 2019 for around $300 from carparts.com and installed it myself. Very much a driving/safety concern! The sunroof leaks if more than a sprinkle. The back floor board stand in 3" of water. I have to take it to the dealership to have the headliner ripped out to clean the waterline from sunroof to outside (rear wheel well). I have taken it in 2-3 times at a cost of ~$150 each time. I need to go back now, but have currently duct taped the sunroof shut. The VDC and slip light, brake light and tire pressure lights are on. Have had them reset. Last time they told me to disregard the brake light. Just ignore it.

My 2010 Nissan Altima has a sticky dash. I am getting reflections in the windshield when I drive. I use a sun screen when my vehicle is parked. The sticky is getting on the bottom of my sunscreen. The sticky on the sun screen gets on the wind shield. I have called Nissan customer service. I was told my vehicle is out of warranty. Nissan can't do anything about the sticky dash. Nissan customer service did not offer a solution to the sticky dash problem. I think the sticky dash is a safety problem because it will probably get worse. Nissan knew about sticky dashes and could have recalled my vehicle.

concern: melting dashboard safety: visibility - the dashboard is very shiny and sticky, potential glare confirmation: Florida recalls have already been made against 2008 and 2009 Nissan vehicles, but nothing further. symptoms: no idea that the dashboard was melting; college student used vehicle corrective action taken: washing/cleaners do not improve or correct the issue. Also, the replacement cost and/or labor required to fix the issue is extremely limited for consumers to take on personally.

The right side motor mount is broken for starters and then on the left drivers side front struts are making a noise and sometimes my back up camera goes out also the transmission is starting to jerk a little or it may be the broken motor mount.

The heater core in the car started leaking and it cost almost $2400 to replace it. Dealer told me that it is due to the fact that the whole dashboard in the car needs to be taken out and is very labor intensive. This is a big expense and wanted to check if there has been a repeated issue like this.

I purchased my 2010 Nissan in 2016. I had no issues up until now when I made my final payment. I do not travel no more than 2 hours on my car once a month. Outside of 2 hour travels I drive 15 minutes to work everyday. Wednesday, May 19, 2021 my car stop working out of the blue! When I was driving home, I was at a stop light. When it was time for me to go, my car did not move. So that’s when I pushed the gas pedal all the way down just so the car could move. If it went over 20 miles it will start shaking and jerking. I took my car to Nissan and they told me it’s my transmission. How is this possible? And they are asking fit 5,000.00! I don’t have that. On top of that I had to pay $252.00 just for them to tell me it’s my transmission. I could’ve caused an accident yesterday. What’s going on with Nissan transmissions

THE VEHICLE HAS DEVELOPED AN OVERLY REFLECTIVE FINISH ON MOST OF THE PLASTIC/RUBBERIZED DASHBOARD SURFACES, LIKELY DUE TO NORMAL SUN AND/OR HEAT EXPOSURE. THIS PRESENTS A SAFETY CONCERN, AS THE DRIVER IS DISTRACTED BY REFLECTED LIGHT WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE.

DASH IS CRACKING AND DASH MATERIAL IS BECOMING SOFT AND SEMI-STICKY. IT IS NOT YET TO THE POINT OF BEING MELTED AND PRODUCING GLARE LIKE 2008/2009 MODELS BUT IS QUICKLY HEADED IN THAT DIRECTION. CAR IS GARAGED WHEN NOT IN USE.

THE DASH ON THE CAR IS MELTED. MY 2010 NISSAN ALTIMA HAS A "MELTING" DASH, PARTICULARLY AROUND THE DEFROSTER AREA. IT IS STICKY IN OTHER PARTS OF DASH ON SIDES AND WHERE IT IS MOLDED. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED ON NBC5 IN DALLAS, TX IN THE MONTH OF JULY FOR 2008-2009 MODELS. TO MY SURPRISE, MY 2010 HAS SAME ISSUE. I TOOK CAR TO DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE SEEN LOTS ALTIMA'S WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND NOTHING COULD BE DONE EXCEPT REPLACEMENT, OVER $1000 DOLLARS. I AM STILL PAYING ON THIS CAR (SINCE 2014) AND FEEL IT SHOULD BE FIXED BY NISSAN SINCE IT IS CAUSED BY THEM USING A SUB STANDARD MATERIAL. THIS CAR WAS MANUFACTURED IN MISSISSIPPI ACCORDING TO NISSAN. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT CONTINUES TO DISINTEGRATE IN HIGH HEAT. I HAVE BEEN HAVING STALLING ISSUES WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION IN MY CAR FOR OVER A YEAR. TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP HERE WHERE I LIVE ON 12/17 FOR THE ISSUE ONLY RECEIVED A CHANGE OF FLUID NO ERROR CODES. SPENT ALMOST 300.00 THAT DAY. TOOK IT BACK AGAIN ON 1/18 FOR THE SAME ISSUE, NOT EVEN A MONTH APART. WAS TOLD THAT FROM THE VIDEO I SHOWED THE NISSAN WORKER IT WAS MY TRANSMISSION GOING BAD. I HAD TO PAY 110.00 TO HOOK IT UP TO THE MACHINE THIS DAY. AFTER LEAVING MY CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR OVER A WEEK I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT HONOR THE 120,000 EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM OR PULL ANY ERROR CODES. THEY PERFORMED AN UPDATE TO THE TRANSMISSION WHICH THEY STATED WAS NEEDED AND THAT "SHOULD" FIX THE ISSUE. FAST FORWARD TO 11/3/18 LESS THAN 3000 MILES LATER IT'S STALLING AGAIN AND WON'T GO PAST 5 MPH WITH THE GAS PADDLE ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR ON A FLAT SURFACE STREET. I HAD TO PULL OVER BECAUSE THERE WERE CARS BEHIND ME AND IT WAS AN UNSAFE SITUATION. I HAVE DOCUMENTED ALL OF THIS AND HAVE VIDEOS TO PROVE EVERYTHING THAT I SPEAK OF. THERE WAS A TIME WHERE I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND DOING THE SPEED LIMIT OF 70 AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR SLOWED DOWN ON ITS OWN TO 50 AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I HAD TO TRY TO MAKE IT OVER TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT GETTING HIT BY 18 WHEELERS ZOOMING PAST ME. THAT IN ITSELF IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND CONCERN FOR ME.

THERE IS A OIL SMELL COMING THROUGH THE AIR CONDITION VENT WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE AT A STOP SIGN AND WHEN THE HEAT IS ON.THE SMELL IS STRONG .THE ONLY TIME WHEN THE SMELL IS NOT COMING OUT IS WHEN THE AC/HEATER IS OFF OR WHEN I HAVE THE UNIT ON CIRCULATION AND AC ON AT THE SAME TIME.IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW FAR I TRAVEL THE SMELL IS THERE.THE VOLUME CONTROL OF THE AC/HEATER HAS A DELAY OF COMING ON,.I WANT TO KNOW WHY IS THIS CAR DOING THIS ,IT'S A 2010 IT ALSO LOOK LIKE IT HAS SOME WATER DAMAGE.

MY DASH BOARD IS SUPER STICKY/TACKY, AND HAS A GLARE WHEN DRIVING, WHEN TRYING TO REMOVE THE FRONT PIECES WITH A PRY TOOL, THE DASH PEELS OFF IN CHUNKS AND REMAINS STUCK ON YOUR FINGER/ PRY TOOL LIKE A MELTED WAX. IT'S NOT THE SAME CONSISTENCY AS THE GLOVE BOX, YOU CAN STICK YOUR FINGERNAIL IN IT AND IT LEAVES INTENTIONS, MY PAINT IS ALSO COMING OFF IN LARGE SPOTS ALL OVER THE CAR.

THE DASHBOARD IS MELTING AND HAS A VERY BAD GLARE WHEN THE SUN IS OUT. THIS CAUSES VISION TO BE VERY POOR AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND OTHER CARS AND PEDESTRIAN. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND DIFFICULT TO SEE WHILE DRIVING DUE TO THE GLARE. THE ISSUE WITH THE DASHBOARD IS THE SAME AS THE LAWSUIT THAT WAS FILED AGAINST NISSAN BY A GIRARD GIBBS AND NISSAN LOST. BUT IT WAS FOR 2008-2009 MODELS. I TOOK THE CAR TO NISSAN AND THE COST TO REPLACE THE DASHBOARD IS $2634.

ON 9/10/17 ABOUT NOON WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE BRAKE LIGHT ON THE DASH BOARD CAME ON, PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WHILE LOOKING FOR SERVICE PHONE NUMBER, SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING, EXITED THE CAR, AND ALMOST IMMEDIATELY THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THEN THE CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES.

THE DASHBOARD ON MY 2010 ALTIMA IS MELTING. I HAVE FOUND MANY OTHER OWNERS COMPLAINING OF THIS SAME PROBLEM AND I BELIEVE THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IN PROCESS FOR 2008 AND 2009 MODELS BUT HAVE NOT FOUND ANYTHING RELATED TO THE 2010 MODEL YEAR. BESIDES BEING UNSIGHTLY AND ANNOYING AS MANY PARTS OF THE DASHBOARD ARE SOFT AND PERMANENTLY STICKY IT IS ALSO DANGEROUS. IN CERTAIN LIGHTING CONDITIONS THE GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD REFLECTING OFF THE SHINY MELTING AREAS IS QUITE SIGNIFICANT INDICATED THIS OCCURRED ON 3/1/15 AS A DATE WAS REQUIRED. OBVIOUSLY THIS HAS DETERIORATED OVER TIME AND I AM NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER.

DASH BOARD IS MELTING. HAS BECOME STICKY AND SHINNY CAUSING A GLARE WHEN SUN HITS IT. THIS OCCURS FROM EXPOSURE TO THE SUNLIGHT.

AT THE DEALERSHIP LOT, THE CAR WAS STARTING FINE. AS SOON AS WE GOT HOME , THE CAR WOULD NOT START RIGHT AWAY, SOMETIMES IT WILL TAKE MORE THAN 30 MINUTES AND ONE DAY MY WIFE WAS STRANDED AT A SHOPPING CENTER PARKING LOT FOR HOURS BEFORE IT STARTED. SINCE IT'S BEEN PARKED AT HOME FOR A WHOLE WEEK AND HALF, THE CAR WON'T START AT ALL, THE BATTERY IS BRAND NEW AND I PURCHASED IT PRE-OWNED WITHOUT WARANTY. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, IT LOOKS LIKE THERE'S ISSUES WITH THE INTELLIGENT KEY AND THE WHEELS LOCKING CONTROL SYSTEM. IN ORDER TO PAY FOR THE CAR, I HAVE TO GO TO WORK BUT THE CAR IS STOPPING ME TO MAKE IT TO WORK.

AS APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT, BRAKES WERE DIFFICULT TO "GRAB" AND TOO EXTRA PRESSURE. STOP WAS RATHER SLOW, AND ANTI-LOCK BRAKES APPEARED TO KICK IN (BY ROUGH, STACCATO SHAKING TYPICAL OF THEM APPLYING). ONLY BY PRESSING DOWN AS HARD AS I COULD DID I PREVENT SMASHING INTO THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. DRY, SUNNY FLORIDA CONDITIONS, NO SAND OR SLIPPING AT ALL, JUST SLOW, ODD BRAKING. THEN THE ENGINE SEEMED TO BE REVVING A BIT - FASTER IDLING THAN NORMAL WHILE AT THE STOP LIGHT. WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT SPEEDING HERE, OR SUDDEN BRAKING, JUST A NORMAL APPROACH TO A KNOWN STOP SIGN OR LIGHT. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THIS HAPPENED A COUPLE TIMES, THEN DID NOT REPEAT FOR A COUPLE MONTHS. THEN, WHEN IT DID REPEAT, I ASKED THE DEALER ABOUT IT. ALWAYS AT A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, ALWAYS IN DANGER OF SMASHING INTO THE CAR AHEAD OF ME OR ENTERING TOO FAR INTO THE INTERSECTION IF I COULD NOT CONTROL THE STOP. THEY WERE COMPLETELY PUZZLED, AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE IT BECAUSE, AS I SAID, IT IS VERY SPORADIC. AN ISPECTION DID NOT REVEAL ANYTHING. THEY LAUGHED AT ME, SAYING IT WAS TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES TO KICK IN IF THERE IS NO SKIDDING. OK, SO WHAT WAS IT THEN? IT SURE AS HECK SEEMED LIKE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES! (I COME FROM UP NORTH AND HAVE EXPERIENCED ANTI-LOCK BRAKES KICKING IN ON SNOW COVERED ROADS...) SINCE THE INITIAL REOCCURRENCE, IT WENT SEVERAL MONTHS, ABOUT SIX, WITH NO ISSUES OR REPEATS, THEN JUST THE OTHER DAY, IT DID IT AGAIN TWICE MORE. I SUSPECT IT COULD BE SOMETHING TO DO WITH COMPUTER CONTROLS, RATHER THAN THE BRAKES THEMSELVES, BUT I AM NO MECHANIC.

THE ONLY WAY TO GET IT TO START IS TO REPEATEDLY HIT THE BRAKES WHILE PRESSING THE START BUTTON. IT NEVER CONSISTENTLY WORKS BUT EVENTUALLY STARTS. AFTER STARTING, THE ABS, VDC, AND SLIP WARNING LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATED. THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THE SAME THING HAPPENING WITH THIS MODEL FROM OTHER OWNERS. THIS POSES A SERIOUS RISK TO HEALTH PARTICULARLY IN TIMES WHERE ONE MAY NEED TO LEAVE IMMEDIATELY. MORE OFTEN, IT IS AN EXTREME INCONVENIENCE. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENTS WANT TO CHARGE OVER $500 TO REPAIR SOMETHING THAT IS CLEARLY DEFECTIVE AND SYSTEMATIC. MY 2010 NISSAN ALTIMA HAS HAD DIFFICULTY STARTING. ALL THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WOULD COME ON BUT THE ENGINE WOULDN'T TURNOVER. AT FIRST I COULD GET IT TO START AFTER A FEW TRIES (I WOULD PUMP THE BRAKES, SLAM THE CAR HOOD, BANG ON THE STEERING WHEEL). THEN I NOTICED WHILE DRIVING THE VDS (TRACTION CONTROL), ABS AND PARKING BRAKE LIGHT WOULD REMAIN ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING. THIS MEANT THAT MY VDS WAS NOT FUNCTIONING AND AS SUCH I LOST CONTROL OF MY CAR SEVERAL TIMES ON WET SURFACES. ON 4/22/2014 I TRIED STARTING MY CAR AND COULD NOT. I HAD IT TOWED TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP (ORR NISSAN IN CORINTH TEXAS) WHERE THE SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED ME THAT IT REQUIRED A NEW BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH, HARNESS AND BAND HOSES. HE TOLD ME THERE WAS A NISSAN SERVICE BULLETIN AS THIS WAS A "KNOWN ISSUE". SO MUCH SO THAT NISSAN HAD ACTUALLY DEVELOPED A MORE DEPENDABLE BRAKE SWITCH. THE SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER IS NTB10-139- WHICH WAS RELEASED ON NOVEMBER 23RD 2010. HE TOLD ME TO REPAIR IT WAS GOING TO COST OVER 500.00. THE FAULTY BRAKE SWITCH IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT CAUSES THE CAR TO THROW ERROR CODES WHICH DEACTIVATES THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ABS. WHY HAS THIS NOT BEEN A RECALL? WHY IS A DEALERSHIP CHARGING 500 DOLLARS TO REPAIR A MALFUNCTIONING COMPONENT THAT SHORTLY AFTER THE CAR WAS RELEASED, THE MANUFACTURE ACKNOWLEDGED IT WAS FAULTY? FURTHERMORE, BASED ON MY CALCULATIONS THE DEALERSHIP IS PUTTING A 300% MARK UP ON THE PARTS REQUIRED. WHY WOULD THE NHTSA WAIT UNTIL SOMEBODY DIES IN A CRASH CAUSED BY THE VDS AND ABS FEATURES NOT WORKING BEFORE THEY FORCE A RECALL/REPAIR OF THIS KNOWN ISSUE?
