Went and started my car and the air bag warning light on the dash came on. I am worried that the air bag won't deploy properly also when the lights are on dim they don't shine very good and the lens are cracked

When an adult is riding in the front passenger seat the airbag on the passenger turns off and on randomly while riding. If in an accident I am worried that the airbag will not go off properly. I have not contacted a dealer about this issue yet. I have not seen any other warning lights other than the passenger airbag is off.

The contact stated that the air bag warning light had been illuminated on the instrument panel after the vehicle was serviced for an air bag recall(recall unknown). Years later, the check engine warning light also appeared on the instrument panel, and the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The mechanic diagnosed the check engine light failure; however, the mechanic also informed the contact that the air bag warning light needed to be checked and referred the contact back to the dealer. The contact called the dealer that performed the recall and informed them about the failure that occurred years prior. The contact was informed that due to the long stretch of time that had passed since the repair, the contact would have to pay for a diagnostic to be performed on the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and spoke to a manager who later agreed to wave the diagnostic fee. The contact was then informed that the back seat assembly and side air bag sensor had failed; the contact was given an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
Rear lower control replaced on recall repair. Dealer diagnosed front control arm needed repair but refuse to complete repair. I paid out of pocket for front. When both front and rear control arm should have been replace under recall
Components that failed: -2019 & 2023 Entire headlight assembly 2x - with continuous wiring in headlight that must be adjusted before every drive. -2021 Internal lighting to illuminate the gear shift, which no longer works. -2021 Heater constantly squeals like a pig and blows every fuse, 😑 once the several fuse boxes were located. -2017 Engine revs up to 3k-4k rpm's while driving a steady 40 mph. Car went to shop after purchase for this, which is now starting again 6 yrs later. -2022 Window tint is impossible to see through and crispy to the touch. -2017 Engine sputters and car shakes signaling that the 3k miles are almost up and it's time for an oil change. -Years ago- There was a recall for passenger airbags, which hasn't been fixed, but also isn't showing up here. -Mechanics, State Inspections etc have been done as normal.
There was an airbag recall around 2016 for airbags. I took it to the dealer and they checked it out and said there was no problem. Now my air bag light stays on and the dealer says I need a new air bag in the driver's seat. Is this airbag covered under the recall?
-The component that malfunctioned is the airbag light for my vehicle, and yes it is available for inspection upon request. -My safety and others are at risk because my airbag may not deploy if I get into an accident. -The manufacturer (at a local Nissan dealership) diagnosed the problem after an inspection, which confirmed it was an airbag light for the driver's seat airbag. There is currently a warning lamp that's turned on. After the dealership's inspection, they turned off the warning lamp, but it turned back on within a month. There were no other symptoms that could have prompted and provoked this warning lamp to be triggered.
The air bag system light comes on, the code is B0020 - Side A/B module LH, and I am able to reset the system with a code scanner. The light goes out and operates normally for a few days or weeks, then without warning the A/B illuminates again for no apparent reason. I understand this is not a component problem but a wiring issue. I have read that the path the wire harness takes from the connector under the driver's seat to the side air bag device has two tight pinch point bends causing the wiring to intermittently break the connection causing the A/B light to come on and shut off the system. The fix, I understand, is to replace the driver's seat back at a cost of $1,600. Why isn't there a recall on this? From what I see on the web this seems to be a common problem to this vehicle. This is not a wear and tear issue or abuse, the vehicle owner has not done anything to cause the wiring problem. The problem was built into the vehicle when it was manufactured by the routing of the wiring. I understand the problem will continue until the wiring fully breaks inside the wiring insulation covering and it can no longer be reset. Since this is a safety issue causing the A/B system not to operate properly why hasn't there been a push to get the manufacturer to own up to the error and repair the vehicle at no cost or offer a substantial discount. I am not sure how many vehicles have been affected and many owners may have a difficult time justifying this expense to a 9 year old vehicle for an issue they had no control. Can NHTSA offer advice or assistance with pushing for owner cost relief from the manufacturer?
My son was involved in an accident this weekend. A car pulled out in front of him and he hit them going between 45 and 55 MPH. None of his airbags deployed in his 2014 nissan altima. He had his seat belt on, but instead of the airbag keeping him from hitting the steering wheel like it should we ended up in the ER with chest pain. Thankfully he is ok along with his passenger, but I feel the airbags should have deployed. I'm not sure who I need to speak to about this. As is can see all of the black car's airbags deployed.

Air bag warning light came on, took car to Nissan dealer who checked into this issue. We are told airbag is fine, however, the device that would inflate it is defective and that it would cost me $1300 to replace the defective part. This car has never been in a wreck and I feel that the manufacture should replace a defective part of an item that has never been deployed. Or at the very least meet this original owner somewhere in between.

I have never been in a wreck or have had any reason for my airbags to not work. My driverside airbag light stays on now and my passenger side turns off randomly even when someone is sitting in it, including my 6'2, 180 lb, 16 year old son.
In a front end collision going over 65 mph my airbags did not deploy. Car was not drivable and was totaled.
The air bag light came on, on November 2021, and stays on all the time. When I took the car to the dealer to check what was wrong with it I was told the airbag might not deploy in case of impact. The car is less than 8 years old, but I was told it was not under warranty and there was no recall for that. I was told they had to replace two parts: 98820-9HN9ASensor-Side AIRBAG Center and 87650-9HP3ABack Assembly Front Seat, for a total cost of approximately $2400, but the parts were not available. The money was refunded to me three months later and the parts have not been replaced. I do not feel safe driving the car around; unfortunately it is the only car I have. The car is available for inspection upon request.
Airbag warning light in instrument panel is illuminated red and does not go off. I was told by my Nissan dealership this is not included in the recall for the passenger side airbag problem that I had previously. My vehicle has not been in any accident that would have caused the airbags to deploy and there has not been any type of water damage that could have damaged the sensor to the airbag.

The manufacturer agreed to pay 60% for the cost of the repair; however, once the repair was performed, the failure persisted. The contact returned the vehicle to the same dealer and the manufacturer agreed to pay for the full repair of the air bag unit. Despite the second repair, the failure persisted, and the manufacturer stated that the repair was no longer covered. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

I was driving on the interstate and a deer struck my vehicle going approximately 60-65 mph. None of the airbags deployed.The sensor lights were not on and did not indicate any airbag sensor issues. The incident damaged the radiator and my vehicle had to be towed. I could have potentially suffered a serious physical injury. Insurance representatives were contacted and the vehicle is at the repair shop currently.
On May 9, 2014, I took in my 2014 Nissan Altima (which was still under warranty) to the dealership to repair the airbag sensor light since it came on even with someone in the passenger seat who weighed over 130 pounds. The Nissan service technician checked it and failed to duplicate the concern. Sometime after that, Nissan performed a recall on the sensor. After the recall, I again took the car in as the sensor still came on periodically incorrectly. This was on 10/11/16. At that time, they said the programming had not been completed and so they completed it. This also did not fix the sensor. I took it in again on May 10, 2017. The notes on the repair order say: "Customer states intermit when passenger is occupies in front passenger seat the passenger side air bag light comes on check and advise. No active codes. Performed zero point reset." Nothing was found again. Frustrated, I didn't know what to do. Fast forward to today (August 23, 2021), I took it in to finally resolve the issue as I am interested in selling it soon. I was shocked that they came back and said it would cost me $1010.68 to fix something that I have tried to get them to fix for 7 years. This faulty sensor is dangerous and they have refused to fix something that never worked from the start despite there being a recall.

The airbag light is always on. When the car is taken to a dealer for inspection, they said that the sensor under the seat is not working properly. We worry that the airbag may not deploy during an accident because the seat cannot sense the people sitting on it. It is definitely dangerous The problem has been identified by a Nissan dealer. The vehicle was inspected by the manufacturer. The airbag light stays on, even after the dealer clearing the code. It seems a lot of Nissan Altima have a similar problem.

I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY DEALER FOR A QUOTE AND WAS TOLD IT WILL COST UP TO $1,800.00 TO FIX. I KNOW THERE HAS BEEN AT LEAST ONE RECALL PERTAINING TO THIS SYSTEM ALREADY (RECALL NUMBER 15V681000). I ALSO ASKED IF THERE WAS A WAY TO HAVE THE AIRBAG ALWAYS SET TO DEPLOY BUT WAS TOLD THAT WAS NOT POSSIBLE. AN $1,800.00 FIX FOR A CRITICAL SAFETY FEATURE IS A HAZARD THAT WILL DRIVE PEOPLE TO ACCEPT UNDUE RISK. THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER DEEMED THE VEHICLE A TOTAL LOSS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT AUTO BODY FACILITY. THE CONTACT STATED NO LOCAL DEALER WAS CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THIS IS A 2014 ALTIMA WITH LESS THAN 30K MILES ON IT ALREADY HAVING AN AIRBAG FAULT OUT OF NOWHERE WITH NO ACCIDENT. IT CONCERNS ME THAT I AM HAVING TO FOOT A $1600 BILL TO FIX A PIECE OF SAFETY EQUIPMENT THAT THE MANUFACTURE SEEMS TO HAVE POORLY MADE.

MY AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON IN MY DASH. WENT TO MY LOCAL DEALER TO FIND OUT AN OLD CODE B0020-13 WAS DETECTED. THEY FOUND EVERYTHING TO BE FINE, SO THEY RESET THE CODE. THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME BACK ON TWO DAYS LATER, AND THE SAME CODE CAME ON AGAIN. THEY RECOMMENDED A REPLACEMENT OF THE SIDE AIR BAG MODULE UNDER THE DRIVER SEAT TO REPAIR THE CONCERN. THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME $1600 FOR PARTS AND LABOR, AND WHAT'S WORSE, THE SOP PART IS ON BACK ORDER WITH NO ETA. SO I ASKED THE DEALER WHAT I AM SUPPOSED TO DO, AND IF THE CAR IS SAFE TO DRIVE? HE SUGGESTED THAT I SHOULDN'T DRIVE THE CAR, BUT THE PART IS NOT READILY AVAILABLE ANY WHERE IN THE UNITED STATES? WHAT KIND OF GARBAGE IS THAT? THEY OFFERED ME NO SOLUTION TO MY PROBLEM, AND I DON'T HAVE ANOTHER CAR TO DRIVE, AND THEY CAN'T EVEN TELL ME WHEN THE PART WILL BECOME AVAILABLE???? DOES THIS MEAN THAT THIS PROBLEM IS A PROBLEM ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY, BECAUSE WHY DON'T THEY HAVE THE PART AVAILABLE? THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE!!!! FOR AN OIL CHANGE, IN TOMBALL TX AND WHILE THERE, REPORTED THAT THE SUPPLEMENTAL AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS REMAINING ON AFTER 7 SECONDS AND REMAINED ON ALL THE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN. THE SERVICE ADVISOR STATED THAT CODE FOUND WAS CLEARED AND NO REPAIR WAS RECOMMENDED. ON 9/5/2018, I SPOKE WITH (XXXX), SVC, MGR. AT FRED NISSAN AND INFORMED HIM THAT THE SUPPLEMENTAL AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ON AGAIN. MR. (XXXX) MADE A 7AM APPOINTMENT FOR ME TO BRING MY VEHICLE TO THE SVC. DEPT., ON 9/6/2018 FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSIS AND HE WOULD CONTACT NISSAN FOR RECOMMENDATIONS. LATER ON, MR. (XXXX) INFORMED ME THAT HE HAD SPOKEN WITH SOMEONE AT NISSAN AND WAS TOLD THAT NISSAN WOULD NOT COVER THE COST OF ANY CURRENT OR FUTURE REPAIRS TO THE SUPPLEMENTAL AIR SYSTEM, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. I GUESS SHE COULD NOT COMPREHEND THE FACT THAT IT IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM, MOST LIKELY DUE TO A FAULTY T PASSENGER SIDE SENSOR IN THE SEAT. THE PASSENGER WEIGHTS IS AROUND 120 POUNDS SO SHE IS HEAVY ENOUGH FOR THE SENSOR TO PICKUP HER WEIGHT. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE AIR BAG MIGHT NOT DEPLOY DURING AN ACCIDENT. MOST OF THE TIME WHEN THE VEHICLE LIGHTS ACTS UP IS WHEN WE FIRST START OUT. THERE IS NO SET PATTERN TO CREATE THIS PROBLEM, MIGHT BE OK FOR A WEEK OR TWO THEN COULD DO IT TWO OR THREE DAYS IN A ROW AND MAYBE GO OUT BY IT SELF. RECEIVED THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V244000 UPDATE FOR OCS ERROR ON PASSENGER AIRBAG. I HAD SUBMITTED A COMPLAINT REGARDING THIS AFTER NISSAN'S PREVIOUS UPDATE DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. THIS ISSUE IS STILL NOT RESOLVED. I CAN 'RESET' BY TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTING IT BUT CAN NOT BE POSITIVE THAT THE VEHICLE IS ACTUALLY 'SEEING' THE PASSENGER. THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY BIG ISSUE WITH NISSAN AND WOULD LIKE TO HAVE IT RESOLVED. I TOOK IT IN A FEW WEEKS AGO BECAUSE THE LIGHT WAS ON AGAIN, THEY SAID IT WAS A LOOSE CONNECTION UNDER THE SEAT CAUSED BY A BOX OF KLEENEX, WHICH I THINK IS NOT TRUE. LAST WEEK THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AGAIN WITH NOTHING UNDER THE SEAT. THIS TIME, THEY SAID I NEED A NEW AIRBAG AT A COST OF $1100, CLAIMING I NEVER BROUGHT IT IN FOR THE DRIVERS SIDE AND THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT BECAUSE MY CAR NOW HAS 70K MILES ON IT, NEVER-MIND IT IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD. ACCORDING TO THE INVOICE GIVEN TO ME BY THE DEALER THE OCS UNIT WAS REPROGRAMMED. ON 9 AUG 16 I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SAME DEALER BECAUSE THE SUPPLEMENTAL AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT REMAINS ON CONTINUOUSLY. BUT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENT AT CREST NISSAN OF FRISCO TOLD ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT, THIS LIGHT IS SUPPOSED TO STAY ON UNLESS THE PASSENGER SEAT IS OCCUPIED BY AN ADULT . OWNER'S MANUAL ON PAGE 1-57 CLEARLY MENTIONS THAT " IF THE SUPPLEMENTAL AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT REMAINS ON AFTER APPROXIMATELY 7 SECONDS, UNDER THIS CONDITION, THE FRONT AIR BAG, SIDE AIR BAG AND CURTAIN AIR BAG OR PRETENSIONER SYSTEMS MAY NOT OPERATE PROPERLY". THE DEALER HAS NOT ONLY FAILED TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM BUT ALSO LIED TO ME ABOUT THIS TECHNICAL AND A POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS PROBLEM. THE NISSAN REPRESENTATIVE, DELISA SAID THAT NISSAN DOESN'T RECOMMEND ANYONE UNDER 4 FEET 9 INCHES OR LESS THAN 120 LBS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. NISSAN DETECTED A PROBLEM AND REPLACED THE AIRBAG DETECTION SENSOR. THE PROBLEM SOON BECAME EVIDENT AGAIN (MANY TIMES I DRIVE THE VEHICLE WHILE ALONE, SO PROBLEM ISN'T ALWAYS EVIDENT.) ON JAN 30, 2015 I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE INTO NISSAN DEALERSHIP WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. AGAIN, THEY DETECTED CODES REGARDING THE PASSENGER OCCUPANT SENSORS AND THEY SAID THEY REPLACED THE SENSOR. FIVE DAYS LATER THE PROBLEM SHOWED UP WHILE WE WERE ON A LENGTHY TRIP. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN AGAIN ON APRIL 9. THEY STATED THAT NO CODES SHOWED UP AND SUGGESTED IT PROBABLY WOULD BE OK. HOWEVER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE PROBLEM SHOWED UP AGAIN, I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, EACH TIME THEY STATED THAT THEY DID A COMPUTER SCAN AND NO CODES SHOWED UP. I HAD TAKEN VIDEOS ON 3 OCCASIONS SHOWING THE VEHICLE IN MOTION AND SHOWING A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT AND SHOWING THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON INDICATING THE AIRBAG WAS NOT IN OPERATION. I OFFERED , EVEN ASKED IF THEY WOULD WATCH BUT THEY DECLINED. THEY SAID THAT EVERYTHING WAS FUNCTIONAL. THEY FURTHER TOLD ME THAT THE PRIMARY MEANS OF RESTRAINT WAS THE SEATBELT. I ASKED IF THEY WOULD CHECK TO SEE IF THE SENSOR WAS POSITIONED PROPERLY, HOWEVER THEY REFUSED, SAYING THAT NISSAN WOULD NOT AUTHORIZE ANY OTHER WORK TO BE DONE UNLESS THE COMPUTER SHOWED A PROBLEM. I HAVE PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED THIS ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS FOR ADULTS RANGING IN WEIGHTS FROM 130 POUNDS TO 165 POUNDS. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO MY DEALER ON 4 OCCASIONS. THE FIRST TIME THEY TOLD ME THEY REPROGRAMMED IT. THE SECOND, THEY REPLACED A SENSOR. THE THIRD, THEY SAID MY WIFE DIDN'T WEIGH ENOUGH AND TO SIT VERY STILL OR BOUNCE AROUND IN THE SEAT SO THAT THE PASSENGER IS DETECTED. THE FOURTH TIME, THEY REPLACED TWO SENSORS. STILL THE ISSUE PERSISTS. TO TRY AND REMEDY, I HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND KEEP TURNING THE CAR OFF AND ON UNTIL IT DETECTS MY PASSENGER AND ENABLES THE AIRBAG.

THIS ISSUE IS REGARDING THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT THAT TURNS ON EVEN WHEN THERE IS AN ADULT PASSENGER OCCUPYING THE SEAT. THE WEIGHT OF THE ADULT PASSENGER (150LBS - 180LBS) IS MUCH HIGHER THAN THE THRESHOLD FOR ACTIVATING THE AIR BAGS. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT WAS ON 2/8/15, WITH THE SAME CONDITIONS. I QUICKLY SCHEDULED A SERVICE APPT FOR 2/12/15 & REFUSED TO LET ANYONE IN THE FRONT SEAT. WHILE AT THE DEALERSHIP ON 2/12/15, THE NISSAN SERVICE ADVISOR DISCUSSED WITH ME A TSB, WHICH SAID THAT "OCCUPANTS WHO ARE PROPERLY SEATED AND CORRECTLY USING THE SEAT BELT, SHOULD NOT CAUSE THE PASSENGER AIR BAG TO BE AUTOMATICALLY TURNED OFF." HE THEN HAD THE CARE INSPECTED BY A SERVICE TECH. FOLLOWING THE INSPECTION, THE SERVICE ADVISOR CAME TO ME AND NOTED THAT THE SYSTEM WAS NOT SHOWING ANY TROUBLE CODES. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND TO LET THEM KNOW IF I HAD ANYMORE TROUBLE. AT THIS POINT I REFUSED TO TAKE THE CAR OFF THEIR LOT UNTIL IT WAS FIXED - I DID NOT FEEL THAT MY FAMILY SHOULD BE SUBJECTED TO A POSSIBLE FAILURE OF THE AIR BAG SYSTEM, INJURY, OR DEATH. IT APPEARED TO ME THAT THOSE OUTCOMES WERE 100% AVOIDABLE. AFTER A FEW CONVERSATIONS INCL THE SERVICE MANAGER, I WAS PROVIDED WITH A DEALER LOANER VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD RESEARCH THE SITUATION. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE OCS WAS REPROGRAMMED WHEN I HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED ON 7/15/2014 AND UNTIL THIS TIME, I HAD EXPERIENCED NO OTHER PROBLEMS SINCE IT WAS REPROGRAMMED.
