I was reversing out of a spot and I heard a loud bang. When I looked my rear control on my passenger side had broken due to rust and corrosion. I reached out to Nissan because I saw there was a voluntary recall and I had never received any information. When I contacted them they told me I was outside of the timeline but the website doesn’t explain that. They never notified me about the safety issue and there was never a formal recall but there should’ve been.

While driving, the Altima’s rear control arm and suspension links broke due to corrosion resulting in loss of safe control of the vehicle. Nissan is aware that this is a problem with this year and make vehicle. They issued an extension of the warranty for this issue. This should be a mandatory recall for safety concerns, not simply a warranty extension. This is a very dangerous issue that can lead to serious injury! Very upset that money is valued over human life. When these parts fail, the vehicle is not safe.

The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while reversing at approximately 4 MPH, there was an abnormal sound coming from the rear driver's side wheel well of the vehicle. The contact stated upon shifting to drive(D), the contact noticed that the vehicle was wobbling from left to right in the lane. The traction control warning was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle shuddered violently and nearly became uncontrollable. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that both the rear driver's side and passenger's side lower control arms had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to Nissan Campaign Number: P9324. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was no longer under warranty coverage. The failure mileage was approximately 190,000.

Was driving one day hit a pothole and my control arm dispositioned itself. Apparently my car had an extended warranty that expired last year. However, with the information that I’m able to provide, I’m not sure if Nissan will be able to work with me to get that fixed, but I do recognize that it is a common problem. I have looked under the car, and I did see the corroded piece from the control arm linked to the staring system. I know not too many people still even have a 2014. However, I do feel it is unfair for a part that led to safety issues for several people to be considered a warranty.

We own a 2014 Nissan Altima. We are the second owners. About a month ago, my son was driving and the left rear lower control arm (Link) broke in half. After repairing and researching, there was an extended warranty offered by Nissan for 10 years from the manufacturer date. We are 13 months over that. When calling, I spoke to Chelsea and Trainsha (Who is the Northeast Regional supervisor) and both told me we are out of warranty and can do nothing. We were never contacted by Nissan to advise of this warranty. This was a known problem by Nissan back in 2018 they knew this was an issue on 2013-2018 Altimas in snow belt states. We are one of those states. I questioned why we were never contacted and why it wasn’t a recall. They said they do not decide on recalls and there are not many incidents. There is nothing they can do. So they are not only allowing all these vehicles to continue to drive on the road with risk of breaking and causing accident and possible injury, but they are also ok with not letting people know there was a problem to begin with. Why after 10 years can they say “Too bad for you” and risk peoples lives? This is a metal control arm. They acknowledge they made it incorrectly. Metal suspension components should last well beyond 10 years. Only the bushings and ball joints should need to be replaced. Why is a corporation allowed to get away with this. I am asking that someone look into this. They are saying they do not have a lot of incidents. Well, if they never let anyone know there was a problem, how would they know how many incidents they really had. We need to hold auto manufacturers accountable for their vehicles. Not just when they are brand new but for longer on metal components that are not wearable parts.

when driving on a highway the rear upper suspension control arm broke, left side causing the tire to wobble. The car was undrivable. A tow truck was called. The repair shop had to replace both the right and left control arms. They told me that this is a common problem with nissan altima 2014. Why has not nissan had a recall on this issue?

Was making right hand turn and heard clunk as if hitting pothole. There was no pothole. After examining vehicle I noticed left rear wheel was out of alignment. Control arm had rusted through and broken off. I’m fortunate that I was not driving at highway speed. This is really a serious problem considering how many of these vehicles are still on the road.

Control arm snapped on the highway. Caused me to swerve into another lane. After researching this is a known issue with this make and model. Nissan had an extended warranty for the issue that ran out last year. Nissan claims its not a safety issue yet my mechanic confirmed it is extremely dangerous and I almost caused an accident.

The vehicle was then shifted into reverse(R) and the contact heard a loud bang coming from under the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated that the rear control arms were fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear control arms were fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 85,000.

The rear lower suspension link on our car cracked and completely separated causing the car to be un-drivable. My husband was pulling out of a parking lot with our son and my son’s friend [XXX] and [XXX] old) and the car started fishtailing. We were lucky this happened at a very low rate of speed. The next day my husband would have been on a highway and I’m sure we would be talking about injuries or worse instead of just a tow. Nissan knew about this issue but failed to tell their customers directly of the issue. They extended the warranty to 10 years and unlimited miles but DID NOT inform owners of the defect, warranty extension OR the ability to get it fixed (and Nissan admitted to this that they didn’t have to tell customers). They told us that in midwestern states (we are in Illinois) the rear lower link could rust quicker with the salt and break. There were no warning signs of the issue that we noticed and no one mentioned any issues when we’ve had it in the shop. Nissan however only agreed to pay half of the cost to fix it since we are 4 months past the date of the extended warranty. This is a problem that should have been communicated to us in the first place so we could have had it fixed before it completely separated. The regional specialist who made this decision was completely uncaring when expressing concerns of how this could have had a much worse outcome. We asked for towing to be re-imbursed and for a rental car and both were denied. Rental car we were told was at the dealerships discretion to which they said they would need to get approval from the person who told us the dealership decided that. So we have been without our car for 2 weeks now having to juggle around 2 kids and their activities and our own jobs. We are very lucky that this issue known to Nissan didn’t end in a far worse outcome with injuries to my family. Recently after lending my 2014 Nissan Altima to my daughter to drive out of state she made a turn in a parking lot and the rear lower control arm broke in half. The car was undrivable and had to be towed to a local repair shop. After doing some checking online I found out that Nissan is well aware of the issue and has issued a service bulletin P9324. However, I am very upset as Nissan never mailed out any notices to owners to bring the cars into a nissan dealership and have them inspected, owners were never made aware of the potential problem. Not only that, I live in a state which uses road salt, which their service bulletin says compounds the issue and I was still never notified. Nissan is well aware of the cracking lower control arm issue and had a redesign done in I believe 2018 to eliminate the issue. Additionally, I had the car in at a Nissan dealership 2 weeks before the failure occurred for a different recall issue and I feel there is no excuse for this to at least not have been checked when the car was in at a dealership for service, especially in a road salt use state. Looking back the car was making a clicking noise from the right rear where the control arm broke for the last year and a half only rarely when going over one particular speed bump where I live. Had I been notified by Nissan about the potential issue I immediately would have bought it into a dealer for inspection. Additionally Nissan did extend the warranty on this part but the failure was six months outside of their extended warranty and they will not cover repair expenses either. I strongly feel this breakage could have caused a loss of life if it happened at highway speeds as my daughter informed me the car was completely undrivable when it broke in the parking lot and had to be towed. I am in possession of the failed lower control arm. Once again shame on Nissan for failing to notify owners of this potential hazardous problem.

On the October 28, 2023, at 2pm, I, was in the process of performing a backing maneuver into my driveway. As I was reversing, I suddenly felt a strong vibration and experienced an inability to move the vehicle further. I promptly exited the vehicle to inspect the situation. Upon examination, I observed that the issue was attributed to a complete failure of the Passenger Side (PS-R) lower control arm. This failure was caused by extensive rust, which had resulted in the control arm being completely broken. The severity of this structural failure rendered the vehicle inoperable and unsafe to drive.

It smells like gas when I start the car. It's also wasting alot of gas. I have to put gas every couple of days. I spend more money putting gas. The steering and suspension and the tires keep giving me problems to where the brakes locked up on their own and now it drives really bad especially on the freeway. The steering wheel moves alot when I'm on the freeway sometimes feel like I'm loosing control of the car. The gas pedal gets stuck and the gear shift gets stuck in park. I have to use a nail filer the metal ones and push and hold the shift lock for it to move into gear. The car keeps saying Key not Detected even tho it's in the car with me. I just got the car from a small dealership in pomona in April of 2023

While driving the Nissan Altima listed about my daughter began to experience severe vibration to the steering. It was so bad she had difficulty keeping the car on the road and was able to pull into a parking lot. After being reviewed by a repair center it was determined that the lower control arm on the drivers side was broken and caused the upper control arm to be damaged. It was further found that the passenger side rear lower control arm had a crack approx. 75% through. The repairs cost me over $2,200.

On our 2014 Nissan Altima, the left rear lower control arm broke apart and the right rear lower control arm was badly cracked; both are integral parts of the suspension.  This happened on a 350 mile trip to visit my father, driving at top speeds of 70 mph, 80 miles of which were on a two-lane highway.  I was fortunate to be driving only 15 mph and just a few blocks from my destination when the rear end "fish-tailed" with no ice or rain on the road (it didn't totally break through until I was in my dad's driveway and backed up to put the car into his garage on a flat surface in order to jack it up to see what the problem was).  I had heard no unusual noises, nor did any warning lights appear.  The car was towed using a dolly system, since it was no longer drivable, to an auto mechanic shop.  If I had been driving any faster and this part gave way I (and my dog who was not restrained in any way) could have veered into oncoming traffic, or gone into one of the many deep ditches where the highway is built up through a large bog, or off a 120 foot high bridge into the Duluth Harbor, which could have resulted in severe injury or death to myself, my dog and others.  The mechanic verified that Nissan has a "service agreement" instead of a full-on recall of these defective parts for cars driven in the "salt-belt" regions of the USA, WI and MN being two of those states.  Because of this issue, I had to stay an additional week in order to have our car completed for driving. As of today, we have sent a reimbursement form and all pertinent information to Nissan.  My husband and I strongly feel that Nissan should have sent out notices to all owners of these vehicles with this potentially deadly defect.  We do not understand why there has not been a full recall!

I was merging on to I-94 from Grand Avenue in Gurnee, IL. I felt the rear end of my car hop. One merged, I noticed my steering was at 2:00, vs straight. After exiting expressway and hitting bumps in the road, I noticed my car "floated". Parked the vehicle and went to work. Left early to avoid traffic. Made it 1/4 mile and the car had a horrible hop to it. Parked the car to investigate. The rear control arm was completely rusted through and broken. I called the Nissan Dealership after reading there is a campaign to replace these under "warranty". Apparently this is an issue with 2013-2018 Altimas in areas where is salt used to help clear roadways in the winter. The dealership has my vehicle now and called to tell me the other one was bad as well. I could have seriously hurt or killed others or myself. This should be a recall and not an extended warranty. I received notification about the hood latch recall, nothing about a campaign regarding the rear control arm.

Right rear lower control arm separated from frame. Vehicle pulled right toward adjacent lane. In construction zone with no shoulder to utilize. Had to cross into an acceleration lane then slowly make way to safe pull-off. Problem confirmed by visual inspection. No warnings. Nissan did not notify me of a replacement program. Notification was to begin in 2019. Consumer was not informed of a replacement program and had to deal with a failed component and a tow from a construction site.

Per the online information it is only covering 13 models in the salt belt states in the US and 13 & 14 models in Canada. This is a very dangerous condition and should be a recall of all models and years that have these parts installed in all salt belt areas.

My wife made a left hand turn and heard a noise and the car started to handle poorly. She called me and thought she had a flat tire. I went to the scene and determined the tires weren't flat but the rear left control arm was broken off. I was able to get it to our mechanics shop. When we put it on the hoist we could see not only was the left side broken off completely but the right side is cracked in the same spot on that side as well. The traction control light did light up when it happened but not before.

The rear lower control arm failed and broke in half, causing springs, shocks, struts, pins, knuckles, bolts to fracture/break or collapse. The tire bowed inward at the top and made loud knocking and rattling noises for six months. I took to three different Nissan dealers, and all told me nothing was wrong. 1/6/22 I was driving on I-90S in Chicago, IL, and when the rear driver control arm failed and craked, utterly separating. The electronic stability control, lade departure, and blindspot warning system all deactivated and gave me malfunction code on the display screen in my dash. The steering wheel loosened and turned 30-40 degrees left, causing the vehicle to spin. I was able to take back control of the car after almost being hit and killed, getting to the shoulder hitting the concrete guard rails. Nissan parts director inspected my vehicle and determined that my vehicle indeed met the failure criteria based on what occurred and the damage. Nissan N.A. denies any fault despite approving to pay and replace some but not all parts and damage caused by their defective parts. It is currently under repair order warranty approved by Nissan N.A. and being investigated because the vehicle has frame damage as result now also but continues to deny any fault.

When driving my rear control arm, on my nissan altima 2014 rusted and corroded so much that it broke in the back. When taking it to pep boys, they had said the left side was only a matter of time as well before that too suffered a similar fate. I live in Michigan which constantly uses salt to help the roads during winter. I have received an invoice of 2700 for repairs and after some googling I saw that Nissan had a major issue with this, that's great, however I was never notified via mail, emial, phone, nothing. I had no way of knowing this was going to, or happen, until after the fact.

My 2014 Nissan Altima’s transmission has to be replaced. The Nissan dealership gave me a quote of $4,093.00 to replace it. The car starts to run fine, then when at a stop and go, the car doesn’t go when I step on the gas or is delayed in going and the RPM’s are high and it feels forced. I was on the freeway and the car lost speed which was very scary because I could’ve have caused an accident. My safety and that of others was put at risk. I’ve had to stop using the vehicle until I can repair this costly issue. There were not any lights or warning messages in the car when this happened. Now that I’ve done research I know that there are many complaints and lawsuits related to the transmission issues Nissan has had for many years and they’ve done nothing about it. They should take responsibility and issue a recall on these vehicles to correct the issue.

My mother in law was driving this vehicle with 3 of her grandchildren (one was my son). She noticed the car seemed squirrelly on the highway. They stopped at a Restaurant and called me. I drove there and took a look. The right rear wheel was at a terrible angle. I looked underneath and noticed the right rear control arm was nearly broken apart. Picture will be attached. This could have ended much differently. The car was towed to a shop and they noticed both the left and right control arms needed to be replaced as they were both rusted out. This is on a car that was kept in a garage it's entire life. The shop told us there is a recall for Altimas for this but not for our VIN number. Why this recall was not for the vehicle is unbelievable.

The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, a popping sound came from the rear of the vehicle, which resulted in the vehicle losing the ability to properly steer. The contact pulled over and upon inspection, it was found that the driver’s side control arm had separated from the sub-frame of the vehicle. The contact stated that the low traction warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence and remained unrepaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. While driving my car the component snapped/popped and caused me to lose control of my car and crashing into a curb in front of a pole. No warning lights came on prior to this happening. I have reached out to the manufacturer with no satisfactorily acceptable resolution. Currently I am in the hospital. The police was on the scene and the vehicle was towed to my residence due to being inoperable. I am physically, mentally and emotionally affected by this matter. Consumer stated she noticed a campaign but not a recall and her VIN was not included.

While turning onto the entrance ramp to the highway, the lower rear control arm on the passenger side cracked and separated from the rest of the vehicle. The only thing holding the wheel on to the vehicle was a suspension coil. Steering and control of the vehicle became intermittent and I had no idea what was happening. I was driving with my pregnant daughter in the passenger seat. The "slippery road" warning light appeared on the dashboard but no other warnings or alerts. We were not injured. The vehicle was towed to our automotive repair shop. The auto repair noted that they had fixed this issue on Nissan Altima in the past and the repair was covered by Nissan. The nissanassist website states there is "a service campaign in states with high road salt usage to replace the rear suspension lower link. On some affected vehicles, and under severe corrosion conditions, one of the rear lower suspension links may corrode and separate at the bushing joint area". I live in Buffalo, NY area which is a high-salt state. Nissan will not cover this repair ($1146.57 includes NYS taxes) because the campaign does not include my VIN and was for 2013 models; my vehicle is 2014. The auto repair shop told us that the lower control arm in my 2014 vehicle was a 2013 part, so it was subject to the same defect that prompted the 2013 recall. Nissan refuses any assistance with this repair and says the VIN number is not included on the lower suspension link repair. If this type of corrosion in a high salt state resulting in breakage is a known covered issue with the 2013 model, and my 2014 model Nissan was assembled with the 2013 control arm parts, then my vehicle should not be excluded.

THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR LOWER CONTROL ARM SEPARATED FROM THE REAR SUBFRAME WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT ~50 MPH. THE FAILURE AT ~50MPH COULD EASILY RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE SINCE THE REAR WHEEL IS NO LONGER FULLY CONNECTED TO THE VEHICLE. THE STRESS OF ONE CONTROL ARM FAILING COULD RESULT IN THE OTHER FAILING AT THE SAME TIME IF THE CORROSION PROGRESSES EVENLY ON BOTH SIDES. THE 2013 MODEL ALTIMA IS COVERED UNDER A SERVICE BULLETIN TO HAVE THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS REPLACED AT NO COST DUE TO THE RISK OF FAILURE. IN THE EVENING OF FEBRUARY 2ND 2021. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HOME ON COUNTY ROAD 12 (AT A SPEED OF AROUND 50MPH) NEAR LONG LAKE, MN. SHE HEAR A LOUD SOUND AND THE CAR BECAME MORE DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. THANKFULLY THERE WAS AN EXIT THAT SHE COULD TAKE AND SHE STOPPED THE CAR AS SOON AS THIS WAS SAFE TO DO. THE NEXT DAY WE HAD THE CAR PICKED UP BY AAA AND TAKEN TO THE NISSAN DEALER (WALSER IN WAYZATA, MN). THEY DIAGNOSED THAT ONE OF THE REAR CONTROL ARMS HAD CORRODED AND COLLAPSED, WHILE THE OTHER SIDE CONTROL ARM WAS CORRODED AND NEAR COLLAPSE. BOTH WERE REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $1,700. I CHECKED THE INTERNET AND NOTICED THAT THIS ISSUE WAS SUBJECT OF A RECALL FOR CARS UP TO MODEL YEAR 2013 (IN THE US) AND UP TO 2014 IN CANADA), RECALL REFERENCE P9324 AND THAT WITH EFFECT FROM MODEL YEAR 2018, THE MANUFACTURER HAD CHANGED THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE CONTROL ARMS AND THAT THIS WAS SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT. REPORTED TO NISSAN, CASE REPORT # 430 217 02, WHO WERE NOT HELPFUL. UPLOADING DEALER INVOICE AND SEVERAL IMAGES OF THE AFFECTED PARTS.

WHEN THE MECHANIC COMPLETED THE WORK ON THE SHOCKS AND STRUTS HE COMPLETED AN INSPECTION OF OTHER PARTS OF THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR CONTROL ARM WAS CRACKED AND THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR CONTROL ARM WAS VERY RUSTED AND CORRODED, BUT HE COULD NOT FIND A CRACK. HE THEN ADVISED ME THAT MY VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. HE ALSO ADVISED ME THAT HE HAD REPLACED NUMEROUS NISSAN ALTIMA REAR CONTROL ARMS BEFORE, HE WAS TOLD THAT NISSAN HAD A CAMPAIGN TO REPLACE REAR CONTROL ARMS DUE TO THEM CRACKING. I THEN HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP. AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER HE ADVISED ME THAT ONLY 2013 NISSAN ALTIMAS THAT ARE IN AREAS OF THE COUNTRY THAT HAVE SALT ON THE ROAD AND 2014 NISSAN ALTIMAS IN CANADA ARE BEING FIXED BY NISSAN. I HAVE A 2014 NISSAN ALTIMA AND LIVE IN OHIO. NISSAN SHOULD BE EXPANDING THEIR CAMPAIGN TO 2014 VEHICLES THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AS THE 2013'S. LUCKILY, I WAS NOT DRIVING MY VEHICLE AND MY MECHANIC FOUND THE CRACK DURING AN INSPECTION. DRIVING HOME FROM WORK YESTERDAY, WHILE DRIVING 65 ON THE EXPRESSWAY, I EXPERIENCED AN ODD 'SHIFT' IN MY CAR, GIVING AN ODD SWAYING SENSATION'I THOUGHT I MAY HAVE HAD A FLAT TIRE. SINCE I WAS CLOSE TO A GAS STATION, I PROCEEDED ROUGHLY A HALF MILE ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND EVENTUALLY TO THE STATION. UPON INSPECTION I FOUND THAT A PORTION OF THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY HAD COMPLETELY BROKEN FROM THE FRAME. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT NISSAN ACKNOWLEDGES THE PROBLEM AND ISSUED A "SERVICE CAMPAIGN" FOR 2013 ALTIMAS IN THE US BUT 2013 AND 2014 IN CANADA. THEIR DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS PART FAILS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO MY CAR AND I LIVE IN THE "SALT BELT" THAT THEY SAY CONTRIBUTES TO THIS ISSUE. I WAS RETURNING HOME FROM TRIP TO STORE AND WHEN ENTERING MY DRIVEWAY OFF PUBLIC SIDE ROAD @ ABOUT 2MPH THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR CONTROL ARM BROKE CLEAN OFF FROM THE MOUNT BOLTED TO THE FRAME AND THE TIRE CRASHED INTO THE INNER FENDER AND TWISTED TO ~45 DEGREE ANGLE. I KNOW THAT THE 2013 HAS A RECALL IN USA AND CANADA AND CANADA ALSO HAS RECALL FOR 2014 FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. IF THIS HAD BROKE WHILE I WAS ON EXPRESSWAY 5 MINUTES EARLIER THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS INJURY TO MYSELF AND PASSENGERS NOT TO MENTION ANY BODY ELSE THAT COULD HAVE IN MY PATH. I WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE HAS ABOUT $1,500 WORTH OF REPAIRS NEEDED BECAUSE OF SOME RUST/CORROSION ISSUES WITH THE REAR LOWER LINKS. AFTER DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH, I DISCOVERED THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT IT ONLY APPLIES TO 2013 ALTIMAS IN THE US, BUT BOTH 2013 AND 2014 ALTIMAS IN CANADA. SO I WANTED TO REACH OUT TO YOU AND SEE IF YOU COULD ADD A LITTLE INSIGHT INTO THIS AND HOW IT MAKES ANY SENSE THAT THERE IS A KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE 2014 ALTIMAS AND SO THEY OFFER A PROGRAM LIKE THIS, BUT THEN LEAVE OUT THE 2014 MODEL IN THE US, BUT INCLUDE IT IN CANADA? I CRAWLED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE REAR DRIVER CONTROL ARM HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH CAUSING THE PART TO FAIL. I SPOKE TO NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND LEARNED THAT THERE WAS NOT AN OPEN RECALL FOR THE 2014 ALTIMA BUT THERE WAS FOR THE 2013 ALTIMA. I THEN DECIDED TO INVESTIGATE ON THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION WEBSITE. I LEARNED THAT THE 2013-2018 CONTROL ARM SHARE A SIMILAR DESIGN WHEN FURTHER READING NHTSA ACTION NUMBER EA 19002. I ALSO DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS RECALL FOR THE 2014 ALTIMA IN CANADA AND WE LIVE 17 MILES FROM THE CANADIAN BORDER. I FEEL THAT THE RECALL FOR THIS PART SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE MODEL YEAR 2014-2018 BECAUSE OF THE SHARED DESIGN.

HOWVER, IF MY CAR WAS SHIPPED TO CANADA IT WOULD BE PART OF THAT AS THEY RECALLED ALL 2014'S. WHY ISN'T THAT THE CASE HERE AS THEY ALL CAME OFF THE SAME ASSEMBLY LINE WITH THE SAME PARTS. THIS NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED IN THE U.S. MY CAR STARTED MAKING VERY LOUD CLUNKING NOISES AS THE PARTS WERE CRACKING AND I STOPPED DRIVING IT AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I DROVE THE CAR ABOUT ONE MILE AT LESS THAN 20 MPH AND IT WAS TERRIBLE! I TOLD THE DEALER TO REPLACE BOTH CONTROLS ARMS AND I DEMANDED THE PARTS BE RETURNED TO ME. UPON INSPECTION OF THE PARTS, THE RIGHT CONTROL ARM HAS SEVERE CRACKING AND WOULD HAVE FAILED IN THE SAME MANNER WITHIN DAYS OR WEEKS. I SPOKE WITH NISSAN NORTH AMERICA. THEY CLAIMED TO BE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM ON 2013 MODELS ONLY. I REQUESTED THAT NISSAN EXTEND THEIR REPAIR CAMPAIGN TO ALL AFFECTED YEARS AND NOTIFY OWNERS OF THIS SAFETY CONCERN. THEY HAVE REFUSED. THEY HAVE ALSO REFUSED TO COVER THE EXPENSE OF OUR FAILURE, WHICH TOTALS NEARLY $1800 INCLUDING A RENTAL CAR. AT A MINIMUM, NISSAN SHOULD BE REQUIRING THEIR DEALERS TO INSPECT THE CONTROLS ARMS OF ANY AFFECTED ALTIMA THAT IS BEING SERVICED. THEY SHOULD BE COLLECTING DATA ON THE INSPECTIONS, AND THEY SHOULD BE REPLACING ANY CONTROL ARM THAT IS SHOWING SEVERE DEGRADATION BEFORE IT FAILS. OUR ALTIMA WAS IN FOR SERVICE LESS THAN 3 WEEKS PRIOR TO FAILURE AND NO RELATED CONCERNS WERE BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION. PER NHTSA'S OPEN INVESTIGATION #EA19002, THIS FAILURE IS PRIMARILY IN THE AREAS WHERE ROAD SALT IS USED. ROAD SALT MEANS THESE AREAS ARE PRONE TO SLIPPERY ROAD SURFACES. JUST IMAGINE THIS FAILURE HAPPENING ON A SLIPPERY ROAD! THE RESULTS COULD BE DISASTROUS FOR THOSE INVOLVED. ON TUESDAY NIGHT JANUARY 14, 2020 I DO AS I ALWAYS DO THIS NIGHT AND DRIVE MY SON TO HIS HOCKEY PRACTICE FOR 6 PM IN NORTH SMITHFIELD RHODE ISLAND. WE WERE ON THE HIGHWAY ROUTE 295 IN TRAVEL LANE PASSING AN 18 WHEELER TRUCK. WHEN WE WERE NEXT TO THIS TRUCK IT FELT LIKE A GUST OF WIND CAME OUT OF NO WHERE AND PUSHED MY 2014 NISSAN ALTIMA IN HIS LANE AND ALMOST HIT THIS TRUCK. I WENT TO CORRECT THE WHEEL TO MOVE AWAY FROM THIS AND THE CAR ALMOST WENT RIGHT OFF THE HIGHWAY IN A DITCH. I HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS GOING ON AND WAS ABLE TO KEEP THE CAR STRAIGHTENED OUT. MY SON, WHO IS 11 WAS SCARED TO DEATH. I NOTICED THAT THAT A LIGHT ON DASHBOARD CAME ON THAT LOOKS LIKE A TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT OR SLIPPERY ROAD LIGHT. WHERE THIS HAPPENED, THE PRACTICE WE GO TO WAS NEXT EXIT AND RIGHT OFF THE HIGHWAY. WE DECIDED TO HEAD THERE SINCE THERE WAS NO SAFE SPOT TO PULL OVER IN THIS LOCATION AT NIGHT. I PUT THE HAZARD LIGHT ON AND MANAGED TO GET THEIR SLOWLY SOMEHOW SO I COULD LOOK INTO WHAT THIS PROBLEM WAS. WE GOT TO PRACTICE. WHILE DRIVING ON A STATE ROUTE I HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD AND IMMEDIATELY FELT THE STEERING WHEEL SHIFT FROM EVEN TO THE LEFT ABOUT 45 DEGREES WITH A THUMPING SOUND . ALSO THE STABILITY LIGHT CAME ON. I TRIED TO STEER THE CAR PROPERLY BUT ENCOUNTERED A PULLING TO THE LEFT. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD INTO A LOT AND DISCOVERED THE REAR LEFT WHEEL AND SIDE (DRIVER SIDE} WAS LOWER THAN THE RIGHT AND THE WHEEL WAS TILTED INWARD. FURTHER INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE CONNECTION TO THE SUSPENSION WAS COMPROMISED. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED ON FLATBED TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC. HE IS LOCATED NEAR THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP SO WE HOPE TO GET IT RESOLVED WITH HIS SELP. MY RESEARCH ON YOUR SITE INDICATED THAT SEVERAL (1000'S) OF 2013 VEHICLES EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM BUT NOT MANY 2014 MODELS. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM IS NOT JUST FOR THE 2013 MODELS AND THE 2014'S AGE IS ABOUT AT THE SAME TIME WHEN THE 2013'S HAVE FAILED. (6 YEARS OLD). I AM HOPING THAT NISSAN FOLLOWS SUIT WITH THE 2014 MODELS LIKE CANADA DID LAST YEAR.

WHILE DRIVING ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET AT ROUGHLY 30MPH, MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY PULLED DRAMATICALLY TO THE RIGHT, PRETTY MUCH AGAINST MY CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL. THEY SHOWED THE RIGHT CONTROL ARM AND SAID THAT IT SPLIT IN 2 AND THAT I WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT I WASN'T INVOLVED INA SERIOUS ROAD MISHAP. AFTER VIEWING THE PART I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT NISSAN HAS A VARIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE CONTROL ARMS ON AT LEAST 2014 ALTIMAS, WHICH I PURCHASED BRAND NEW. I DO A LOT OF HIGHWAY DRIVING AND BASED UPON HOW THE VEHICLE SWERVED SO DRASTICALLY TO THE RIGHT, I AM CERTAIN THIS VEHICLE WOULD HAVE FLIPPED OVER WITH ANY SORT OF SPEED. AT 30 MPH, I WAS LUCKY TO AVOID CONTACT WITH PEDESTRIANS OR OBJECTS. I CONTACTED NISSAN TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE REP WAS MORE INTERESTED IN INFORMING ME THAT MY VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND NOT TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE NO OTHER COMPLAINTS FILED ABOUT THIS PART BREAKING APART. THE DRIVER SIDE COIL SPRING, WHICH IS PART OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION, BROKE. THIS PART USES ALMOST 3/8 INCH STEEL, AND WHEN IT BREAKS UNDER COMPRESSION, CAN CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE, AND POTENTIAL VEHICLE STABILITY ISSUES ON THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE INVOLVED IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD WITH 44000 MILES, WHICH IS NOT MUCH MILEAGE ON THIS VEHICLE. THIS PART SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED AND IS CONSIDERED A DEFECT IN MY OPINION. WE WERE FORTUNATE THAT OUR VEHICLE WAS LOCAL, AND NOT ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THERE WAS NO TIRE DAMAGE WHEN THE SPRING SNAPPED. WE HAD A MECHANIC REPLACE THE SPRING WITHIN THE WEEK.

I BOUGHT THE CAR LAST YEAR AND IT HAS ONLY BEEN ABOUT 13 MONTHS. ABOUT THREE MONTHS AGO, I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A KIND OF JERK WHEN I WOULD START OFF A STOP LIGHT AND ACCELERATE. I THEN TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND RESTARTED IT AND IT STARTED WORKING FINE. BEING LATE FOR WORK, I THEN CONTINUED ON AND UNTIL YESTERDAY EVERYTHING WAS OKAY. YESTERDAY, I GOT INTO MY CAR, STARTED IT, SWITCHED TO DRIVE, AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM THE TRANSMISSION. I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF, TURNED IT ON AGAIN, MOVED THE SHIFTER INTO REVERSE AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AGAIN. I HAVE SINCE HAD IT TOWED AND IT IS BEING CHECKED AT THE DEALERSHIP.
