Car began shuddering when trying to accelerate. Car periodically will stop running or not start. No dash lights came on until recently when car would not start the battery nd engine light came on This all started end of September. Has been diagnosed by Nissan Dealership with 2nd diagnosis by an automotive shop close to my home. Informed this is a known issue with this make and model. Researched online and found this the be true. I received no notification. Both came up with transmission and CVT internal problem. Safety hazard for car to die in traffic. I have cancer and heart failure which makes general mobility an issue. I can’t quickly exit the car nd get out of the way of traffic. Informed only the dealership can address the issue. Quoted $6700 to repair/replace

Car was driving fine went to work on January 2nd 2025 and when I went to leave I put it in reverse it went and when I put it in drive the car would not. Shift into drive . Had it taken in where they quoted me $7,776.00 For the transmission to be replace my Altima has been taken very good care of it was bought at 31k and it has 141k all high way miles. Nissan said it was under warranty and I missed it by 20k miles I was never notified of a recall on the transmission they sent out recalls for the hood latch amd a Reprogramming issue with the cvt. Prior to that. That was fixed at a Nissan dealer ship.

I purchased my 2015 Nissan Altima in July, 2022 with 56,530 miles on it. At this date it has approximately 71,500 miles on it. I have driven it 14,970 miles in 2.5 years. On [XXX] I was driving home from Thanksgiving in East Brunswick, NJ to my home in South Philadelphia on [XXX] in New Jersey when my car suddenly began to have a slow down in ability to accelerate. I ended up pulling over after a moment of slowing down and not knowing what was happening. When I got to the break down lane, the car stalled. I ended up getting road side assistance to tow me to Ward's Automotive in Mt. Laurel, NJ, where my family and I have brought cars for many years (we used to live in Moorestown, NJ. Ward's ended up telling me the following Monday that my engine was "bad." I have no idea how my engine died after only 71,500 miles on this car! I got oil changes on it every 5,000 miles. I did report to the dealership in December, 2022 that I was hearing weird noises coming from the right front side but they told me they heard nothing. What can I do??? I am still paying for this vehicle (approx. $3,100 left on loan). I did not purchase an extended warranty when I bought it used. I have learned my lesson, but I need help understanding what rights I have. I don't know if there is any Manufacturer's Warranty on the car. Please help me! I was using cruise control on the highway. My RPMs started going up and down and my speed slowed. I took it off cruise control and the speed was irregular. The car responded slowly to my pressing the accelerator. My car started squealing and I pulled over on the turnpike. I tried to press the accelerator after I stopped but the car would not move. I was unsafe because my car was on the shoulder of a highway and it was 85 degrees. I was also unsafe because my speed was not consistent and there was traffic around me. Lastly, I had to wait an hour for a tow truck. Two mechanics confirmed that this is a CVT judder problem. There were no warning lamps and no signs of a problem before this occurred.

AUTOMAKER REFUSED TO COMPLY WITH THE CVT RECALL.
Vehicle has problem accelerating after a stop, this doesn't flash codes and so dealer claims vehicle is okay to drive... upon asking in forums this is a common issue relating to the Step Motor and has been replicated across various model years with varying mileage. This issue has been happening for approx the last 60k miles and the dealer cannot replicate.
While stopped at a light, pressed gas pedal and car wouldn’t go for some time. After it started going car wouldn’t shift out of first. I revved the car a few times to get it to shift then car wouldn’t shift out of second. Took into mechanic and had diagnosis around a pulley in the CVT transmission. Also was told that the mechanic sees this model many times a year for transmission issues
I have a issue with my vehicle going into LIMP MODE due to a safety issue with the TCM loosing programming with the transmission. This is a BIG SAFETY as I'm on the Hi way. Car will go from 75 mph down to 20mph and can cause for severe car accident. I spike to your warranty department and they gave me the run around. I gave them Info in reguards to a Campaing ID# Which is a clear issue that these NISSAN CARS are still having. A recall was terminated in late 2016, yet a bulletin was posted online of it being active as of 1/ 2017 still. I was told that it's MY PROBLEM NOW AND MY ISSUE TO HAVE NISSAN CHARGE ME FOR A REPROGRAMMING of the TCM when Clearly this issue is still present in. Vehicles in 2024. Many of times I came close to averting a major accident due to car loosing communications with TCM. AGAIN this is very unfair as to how a dealership can brush this SAFETY ISSUE UNDER THE RUG BY SIMPLY TELLING A NISSAN VEHICLE OWNER, SORRY RECALL WAS CLOSED, AFTER LESS THEN A YEAR OF FINDING OUT THE ISSUE ON A CAR. NISSAN must want someone to end up DEAD in there cars due to a TCM MALFUNCTION WITH TRANSMISSION SO THEY CAN BRING THIS TO LIGHT AGAIN. Vehicle has a current defected transmission that Nissan is aware off and fixed vehicles within a certain warranty period. Customers should have received letter making them aware of the defected transmission, I explained to Nissan I never received a letter. I am assuming this happened because I purchased the vehicle used, the person I spoke to from Nissan said unfortunately this happens. Nissan should be required to fix the vehicle as they failed to notify me of the defected transmission.

In 3 different occasions in this same particular order my car would start to slowly loose acceleration of only letting me drive to 10mph before lights on dash would come on such as ps,abs,traction control ect. Then my radio would shut off followed by my whole dashboard before completely the whole vehicle would completely shutdown on me and I could not start up again. I replaced the battery and put in a new alternator, but continued doing the exact same issue. I took it to a mechanic and he determined that for whatever reason the new alternator was not sending out the power and replaced it again and have to reprogram the entire computer because it was sending all kinds of codes that had nothing to do with my vehicles issue. He also noticed the continues whining sort of whistling noise coming from the powersterring as I have read in the past that people have that same problem on this particular model. As of this moment its been about 1 month and has not yet stalled on me for now, but it is very dangerous when this happens in the middle of the street or highway when your running at a certain speed and cannot control your steering since its powersterring.

CVT failure and headlights failure
Original transmissional failed at 67,000 miles. Replaced under a Fidelity warranty. 54,000 miles later, the transmission failed again. My safety and the safety of others was at risk due to the car not accelerating properly. Car was revving to 4rpm and only going 20mph. No warning lights appeared, I drove straight to the dealer to have it diagnosed. 2 "red codes" came back indicating needs to be replaced again, at my own expense.

For the last few days my car has been hesitant to accelerate. At low speed acceleration it jerks a few times then the rpms go way high and is slow to shift & accelerate. It is automatic. This problem has been gradually increasing over past 2 years. I did take it to a dealership when the hood latch was replaced due to recall this year and they just suggested I drain/replace the transmission fluid in hopes that it fixes the acceleration issues. They already knew when I went into the dealership that it wasn't in warranty anymore and because I couldn't afford to fully fix the problem they just brushed me off. This isn't a safe car anymore to drive. I have 2 children and this is our primary vehicle. I just know whatever this issue with the transmission and power train stuff is not safe and it's only a matter of time until something major brakes down, I just hope it does not clunk out on us to where we wreck. These power train/transmission issues have started affecting the cruise control, air flow of the car, and possibly affecting the sensors which then could be another ordeal with electrical issues. NISSAN WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE TRANNY/POWER TRAIN > EXTEND THE WARRANTY OR FIND AND FIX THIS ISSUE I bought the car in 2018 with less than 20,000 miles and have done regular maintenance, new tires every year, oils changes, replacing air filters and wipers, replacing brake pads, ive had to replace the brake booster already and flushed the whole brake system because of this acceleration issue I figured the brakes causing the lag but this car is just falling apart these past 2 years, rust on the trunk near the silver trim has caused the trunk to open on its own and the back-up camera feels like its slowly going out, the headlights are too dim to drive at night(even the brights now are dim), the rear passenger window just dropped down one day off the roller and I can't get the window back up and stay on the roller. Problem after Problem. Safety concern after safety concern.

CVT transmission is shot. Nissan says they have "fulfilled their obligation" due to the warranty being out of date. Had a lifetime powertrain warranty with the dealership which was shut down by SOS police. Now no one is responsible for this transmission which Nissan knows is a terrible product. Lasted 6 years. There should be a recall on all of these transmissions which seem to affect the Altimas the most.
My 2015 Nissan Altima SV begin losing power and revving up and RPMs but would not move. When I exited the interstate to see what was going on because at that time the check engine light had also come on I came to the stop sign and when I proceeded to move forward to find somewhere safe to park the vehicle would not go but the accelerator but the RPMs went up. Putting my wife's life and myself in danger of uncommon traffic because vehicle barely wanted to move I had the vehicle towed to Nissan dealership in the following morning the service manager called me and let me know that they checked out the vehicle and that it was a transmission and also the speed control sensor he said there was no recalls on it but did have three six and 12 month financing so that they can continue to do the repairs. I am currently just paid the vehicle off two weeks ago and I'm frustrated that this has happened. This was the third time this has happened to this vehicle the first two times my wife had to pull over waited close to an hour as vehicle cool down and then proceeded to continue home which was fine but these are happening every two to three months now.
I was driving on the Chicago skyway toll bridge when my transmission went out in my 2015 nissan altima with 103k miles on it. I had it towed to the dealership where thru quoted me 5500 for a new transmission because of cvt failure. I take extra care of my vehicle and even pay for the premium oil change EVERY single time. Cvt transmission should be banned from US roads.
My engine service light is on and I have scanned with diagnostics. The code P0101, C119A, and C1155 with the most likely solution is to reprogram the power train control module(PCM).
Transmission went out with no warning. Ran fine the night before, the next morning I couldn't go anywhere. Shop has confirmed by code that is being thrown the transmission has went out, $2900 fix.
Nissan refused to pay for transmission of $5,221.38 replacement they should have replaced it due to their crappy cvt design and I have made multiple phone calls and they said we can’t help you.

This car only had 136,000 miles. The transmission failed. Research shows this version of Nissan has issues with its CVT transmission. The transmission has to be fully replaced by a new transmission costing upwards of $5,000. Based on my research multiple Nissan cars with CVT transmissions are having issues and costing owners money.

Moments car will not accelerate after stepping on gas pedal till one completely steps on it all the way down after coming to a stop. Car will roll first then jerk to accelerate after pressing gas pedal down fully. Notice the issue happens when car gets too hot from frequent stops. Had transmission flushed and it solved the issue for a bit but began again recently.

My teenage daughter drives this car daily and last week upon traveling to work on the highway the RPMs jumped and her car lost acceleration and she wasn’t able to pick the speed back up. She was losing power. The car was shuddering when she was accelerating and taking off and it was jerking with gear shifting. She was almost slammed into from behind when this happened. Dealership is telling us we need a new transmission. We purchased the car in 2016 and Jan 2017 we had the transmission computer module reprogrammed at the dealership, per Nissan recommendation.
Car was misfiring for a while. Got spark plugs and coils changed. Two days after they were changed car still kept misfiring and jerking and wouldn’t change from the first gear and takes a minute to accelerate after a complete stop. Has white smoke coming from the muffler. Two days ago it stalled to start and would not drive or reverse. Dash board keeps saying system malfunction and LDW (lane departure warning) and BSW (blindspot warning) and check engine light stays on.
While driving on the highway at a speed around 65 mph, the traffic suddely stopped ahead, so hard braking was performed and the car came to a complete stop, and afterwards the vehicle didn't respond to any gas pedal input for few seconds. I took the vehicle to my local Nissan dealership for check up, but they claim the vehicle drives normal. Knowing that this generation of Nissan Altimas has defective transmissions and a class action lawsuit was settled with an extension of transmission warranty for 2 years or 24,000 miles. Thank you
I was in turning lane and when traffic cleared enough to turn I pushed gas, and nothing happened it was just idle, no rpm, no movement let go of gas pushed again barely moved and then didn’t go anywhere. Oncoming traffic at that point was approaching then it engaged and was fine! It did it two more times as I was sitting at light and once while just driving

I JUST HAD ALL THE TIRES AND BRAKES REPAIRED READY TO GO FOR INSPECTION AND THE TRANSMISSION RANDOMLY FAILED WHILE MAKING A DELIVERY FOR UBER EATS. THE VEHICLE JUST STARTED STALLING OUT AFTER STOPPING AND GOT WORSE FROM THERE. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR ANYTHING IT JUST WON'T SWITCH GEARS. I TURNED ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND WENT HOME AND IT WOULDN'T GO ABOVE 50, I'M LUCKY I EVEN MADE IT HOME. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE CVT TRANSMISSION I HAD LOOKED AT 3 YEARS AGO AFTER SOMETHING SIMILAR HAPPENED AND I SAW A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT RELATED TO THIS BUT NOW I AM OUT THE REPAIRS ON THE BRAKES AND TIRES AND STUCK WITHOUT A VEHICLE AND I RELY ON UBER EATS. I THINK I GOT SOLD A LEMON. EVER CAR ME OR EVERYONE I KNOW HAD WENT UNTIL EASILY 200-250K MILES BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION WENT ON OLDER VEHICLES; NOW A "NEWER" VEHICLE GOES OUT UNDER 100K? DRIVING DOWN THE US23/119 INTERSTATE NEAR PIKEVILLE, KY THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STARTED DECELERATING FROM 60 MPH AND WOULD NO LONGER ALLOW ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE SPEED KEPT DECREASING UNTIL IT WAS GOING LESS THAN 20 MPH AND TH DRIVER HAD TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER A TOW TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP, THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED TO BE A FAULTY TRANSMISSION. THE DANGER WAS IT OCCURRED SO SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WITH NO WARNING AND VEHICLES EASILY COULD HAVE COLLIDED WITH OUR VEHICLE. UPON LEARNING OF THE REPAIR NEEDED I SEARCHED FOR OTHER SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THE NISSAN ALTIMA. I FOUND THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT SETTLEMENT FOR 2013-16 VEHICLES DUE TO FAULTY TRANSMISSION. THE SUIT SETTLED WITH AN EXTENSION OF THE WARRANTY BY 24 MONTHS OR 24,000 MILES. HOWEVER, THIS RESOLUTION, IN MY OPINION, IS NOT SUFFICIENT TO PROTECT THE CONSUMERS FROM PAYING OFTEN IN EXCESS OF $3000 FOR A REPAIR AND THE RISK OF LIFE WHILE DRIVING A KNOWN FAULTY PRODUCT. NISSAN SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO INCREASE THE WARRANTY PERIOD TO BE MORE TIED TO THE LIFE OF A TRANSMISSION AND PROTECT CONSUMERS OF POTENTIAL INJURIES DUE TO THEIR KNOWN FAULTY PRODUCT.

I DID SOME BASIC INTERNET RESEARCH AND FOUND MANY NISSAN VEHICLES WITH CVT TRANSMISSIONS HAVE ISSUES, AND SUBSEQUENT CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS. I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER, WITH 102K MILES. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE FAULTY CVT, AND INDICATED THAT MY SPECIFIC MODEL DOES NOT HAVE ITS TRANSMISSION UNDER WARRANTY UP TO 120K MILES LIKE OTHER VEHICLES, AND THAT THE VEHICLE WARRANTY IS ONLY VALID UP TO 84K MILES. THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND SAID IT MAY BE INTERNAL TRANSMISSION WHICH WILL COST 1500$ IF THAT IS ALL IT IS IF THEY GO IN AND IT DOESN'T CORRECT THE PROBLEM THEN I WILL NEED A WHOLE NEW TRANSMISSION. PICKED UP CAR THAT AFTERNOON DROVE IT REST OF DAY AND THE NEXT DAY MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND SAID I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $4200. MY CAR IS ALMOST 4 YRS OLD WITH 84,000 MILES ON IT. THE TECH SAID THE REASON FOR THE REPROGRAMMING WAS TO PICK UP ON THE ISSUES IN THE TRANSMISSION AND TECH TOLD ME THAT THIS PROBLEM COULD HAVE BEEN THERE FOR MONTHS AND EVEN A YEAR OR SO AND THE COMPUTER NOT THROW THE ENGINE CODE BECAUSE OF EITHER FAULTY TRANSMISSION OR TRANSMISSION PROGRAM. ALSO, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ENTER THE INTERSTATE FROM A SHOPPING CENTER THAT I FREQUENT I HAVE TO CROSS TWO LANES OF HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC TO ENTER THE THIRD LANE HIGHWAY ENTRANCE. FROM A STANDING FULL STOP I APPLY PRESSURE TO THE GAS PEDAL, THE VEHICLE ADVANCES TWO OR THREE FEET AND THEN COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP. ADDITIONAL PRESSURE TO THE GAS PEDAL PRODUCES NO FORWARD MOVEMENT. THE ENGINE IS RUNNING, THE GEARSHIFT LEVER IS IN DRIVE BUT THE CAR DOES NOT MOVE. APPROACHING HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC IS NOW SWERVING TO AVOID MY STOPPED VEHICLE. THIS LIFE THREATENING SITUATION HAS OCCURRED TWICE IN THE LAST MONTH. ON BOTH OCCASIONS I HAVE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR RESOLUTION OF THIS PROBLEM. ON THE LAST OCCASION THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT FOR FOUR DAYS AND I GAVE PERMISSION TO THE TECHNICIAN TO OPERATE THE CAR AT WILL TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. NO PROBLEM COULD BE DETECTED. THE VEHICLE HAS 34,000 ON IT. I BELIEVE OPERATING THIS CAR IN THE PRESENT CONDITION PUTS ME AT GREAT RISK. IT IS APPARENT TO ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE REPLACED OR REPAIRED WHILE IT STILL UNDER WARRENTY.

GREETINGS, I AM WRITING THIS COMPLAINT TO NOTIFY THE NHTSA OF A DEADLY PROBLEM WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION IN THE NISSAN ALTIMA! I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS WHERE THE VEHICLE EITHER TURNS OFF, STUTTERS, OR AND HESITATES FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. THIS HESITATION IS DEADLY BECAUSE WHEN PULLING OUT OR MERGING ON TO A HIGHWAY THERE IS LOSS OF POWER AND THIS WILL CAUSE A FATAL ACCIDENT DUE TO THE VEHICLE NOT ACCELERATING AS EXPECTED. IN FACT, THIS ISSUE IS SO PREVALENT THAT NISAAN REPROGRAMMED THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM). THIS HALF MEASURE IS LITTLE TOO LITTLE TOO LATE AS TRANSMISSION DAMAGE HAS ALREADY OCCURRED AND IT LEADS TO PREMATURE FAILURE. THIS FAILURE LEADS TO THE VEHICLE BEING A HAZARD IN TRAFFIC. A CAR BEHIND SWERVED EXCESSIVELY TO AVOID HITTING ME AND IN DOING ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT WITH ANOTHER MOTORIST! THE CAR HAD TO BE PUSHED INTO A NEARBY PARKING LOT AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND CONFIRMED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I FOUND THIS RATHER DUBIOUS AS THE VEHICLE IS A 2015. I BEGAN INVESTIGATING THIS ISSUE FURTHER. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, I FOUND THIS PROBLEM IS EXTREMLY PREVALENT WITH THIS MODEL. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF INCIDENTS OF OWNERS HAVING AN EXPERIENCE AKIN TO MINE. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAS YET TO ADMIT FAULT. THE REPROGRAMMING OF THE TCM IS A CLEAR INDICATION NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND IS ATTEMPTING TO REMEDY IT BY ELIMINATING CERTAIN SHIFT POINTS; HOWEVER, IT IS INADEQUATE AND THE DAMAGE HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE. THE LIVES OF PEOPLE ARE AT STAKE WITH THIS TRANSMISSION! IS IT JUST OF MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE LOSS OF LIFE WILL OCCUR BECAUSE OF THIS FAULTY CVT TRANSMISSION! THANK YOU!

I WAS DRIVING MY 2015 NISSAN ALTIMA ON THE ROAD AND THERE WAS HEAVY TRAFFIC SO IT WAS SORT OF STOP AND GO AND LOTS OF IDLING. EACH TIME I PRESSED ON THE GAS, IT SEEMS THE CAR HESITATED TO GO. AFTER I GOT TO MY DESTINATION, I THEN DROVE ONTO INTERSTATE 85 IN GASTONIA, NORTH CAROLINA AND THE CAR STARTED MAKING A LOUD WHISTLING NOISE AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE DRIVE SHAFT ALSO STARTED SHAKING REALLY BAD. THE CAR STALLED AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF AND THE CAR COASTED OFF THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR STOPPED ON ME. I ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP THAT I PURCHASED THE CAR TO GET DIRECTION ON WHAT TO DO AND THEY WOULDN'T SPEAK TO ME OR RETURN MY CALLS. I ENDED UP CALLING NISSAN ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE IN RE THE CAR. THE GUY ASKED FOR MY VIN # AND I GAVE IT TO HIM AND HE IMMEDIATELY ASKED IF MY CAR'S ENGINE STALLED ON ME. I ADVISED THAT IT DID IN THE MIDST OF MY DRIVING WITH MY CHILDREN ON AN INTERSTATE. HE ADVISED THEY WOULD SEND A TOW TRUCK TO GET MY CAR BUT THERE WASN'T ANYTHING HE COULD DO FOR ME TO HAVE TRANSPORTATION AND I'D HAVE TO SPEAK WITH THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THEY COULD PROVIDE A LOANER. THE DEALERSHIP ENDED UP DIAGNOSING THIS AS A BAD TRANSMISSION IN THIS BRAND NEW CAR. I WANTED TO KNOW HOW THE ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE GUY KNEW THAT THIS CAR HAD STALLED ON ME PRIOR TO ME EXPLAINING THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP THAT REPAIRED IT ALSO ASKED ME IF I HAD HAD THIS PROBLEM 3 TIMES PRIOR. I HAD NOT. WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR IT HAD 101 MILES ON IT AND I BELIEVE THIS CAR HAD PROBLEMS THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF AND THEY SOLD IT TO ME ANYWAY. I REQUESTED A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE FROM NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS B/C I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN THIS CAR AS IT WAS A NEW CAR WITH A BAD TRANSMISSION AND I DO NOT TRUST IT'S SAFETY FOR MYSELF AND MY CHILDREN.
