This Problem Across All Years
This is the first major safety incident with a stuck and wide-open throttle. I just started from a left hand turned at a stop light. I noticed the 2004 Nissan Frontier pickup truck began to increase its speed without any extra pressure applied to the gas pedal. I applied the brakes to slow down the truck's speed while the engine continued to increase speed. I turned on the flashers to warn traffic. I put the truck into neutral while braking and the engine immediately revved to high and loud rpms. I heard the engine making a shift in its high rpm revving noise, and I turned off the engine. I was now fully stopped near the curb. Next, my husband started the engine after a few minutes of being stopped. The engine immediately started revving to the high rpms. Since the truck was parked, he tapped the gas pedal a few times which seemed to reset the engine's wide-open throttle. Safety Issue: The engine revved to very high rpms and speeded up on its own; brakes were not fully stopping the truck. Failed Component: The engine's "throttle"

FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT REGISTER PROPERLY. I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE FUEL CAP ONCE AND HAD THE TRUCK IN FOR REPAIRS A COUPLE OF TIMES. THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT IS ON ALMOST CONSTANTLY AND WHEN THE FUEL GETS DOWN TO 1/4-1/8 OF A TANK, THE GAUGE WILL GO UP TO 3/4 A TANK INDICATING THAT THERE IS MORE GAS THERE THAN THERE ACTUALLY IS. IF I DO NOT KEEP TRACK OF IT, I CAN EASILY RUN OUT OF GAS. *TR

AFTER FURTHER TESTING THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO RUST ON THE GAS TANK. IN WHICH LED TO A EVAPORATION LEAK ON THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK. THE MECHANICS REPLACED THE GAS TANK. ALL THE ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT INCLUDING THE GAS PUMP. THE REPAIRS HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THE FAILURE. HE STATED THAT THE FAILURE ON A VEHICLE THAT'S FIVE YEARS IN AGE IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON IN MAY VEHICLE. I HAD IT CHECKED AND IT TURNS OUT THE GAS TANK/ HOSE CONNECTION TO THE TANK IS RUSTED CAUSING A FUME LEAK. THIS LEAK CAN BE SMELLED INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND IS VERY STRONG OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE AND IS A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. THIS OCCURRED IN AUGUST 2006.
